This week, I was sent a piece of Karate Kid tribute art that was created by Ignacio RC. This was one of my favorite movies growing up, and it’s one of those films that I don’t see a lot of fan art for, so it’s always cool when something like this pops up online; I’ve gotta share it!

Also, in case you missed it earlier this week, you have to watch Billy Zabka, the actor who played bully Johnny Lawrence in The Karate Kid, give an anti-bullying keynote speech. It's pretty inspiring.

THE HATEFUL EIGHT Poster and TV Spot - "No One Comes Up Here Without A Damn Good Reason"

We've got another poster for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight to share with you today. It comes with the tagline "No One Comes Up Here Without A Damn Good Reason." Next to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this is my other most anticipated movie of the year. I also included a new TV spot.

The Hateful Eight stars Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell as John “The Hangman” Ruth, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Demian Bichir as Bob, Tim Roth as Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen as Joe Gage, Bruce Dern as General Sanford Smithers, and Channing Tatum will also have a small role. Here's the full synopsis:

In The Hateful Eight, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all.

The movie will be released on December 25th, 2015 with an exclusive two-week roadshow run in which the film will screen in 70mm. Following the two-week engagement, the film will open with a digital theatrical release nationwide on January 8th, 2016, while continuing to be shown in 70mm as well.

Vin Diesel Announces New RIDDICK Sequel and TV Spinoff Series

vin-diesel-announces-new-riddick-sequel-and-tv-spinoff-series

Fans of Vin Diesel’s Riddick will be happy to hear that the actor is bringing the character back for another chapter in the sci-fi adventure called Furia and that there will also be a TV spin-off series! He made the announcement on Instagram:

“Last night our company had a party to launch our TV division. MERC CITY is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe. Next Month, DT begins writing the next Chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick… FURIA.”

DT stands for David Twohy, who is the writer and director of all three of the films in the Riddick franchise - 2000’s Pitch Black, 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick, and 2013’s Riddick. He also wrote the two animated Riddick shorts, "The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury" and "Riddick: Blindsided."

I’ve enjoyed all of the films in the series, so it’s awesome to hear that we will be getting at least one more sequel. On top of that, we get a spin-off series that centers on the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Roddick universe?! That’s so freakin’ cool!

It’s good to see that Diesel is pushing this franchise forward and that the studios are still interested in making these them even though they’ve been moderate successes.

RUGRATS Imagined as Adults by Original Animated Series Artist

For all those who have ever wondered what the little Rugrats toddlers would look like as adults, today is your lucky day! Eric Kolinsky, who was a storyboard artist on the '90s series, shows us how Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Dil, Kimi, Angelica, and Susie grew up.

In an interview with Studio360 he talked about working on the series and how he found it annoying:

“It really bugs me — not the quality of the artwork, but the interpretation. We referred to them as lumpy babies for a reason. If we ever drew the Rugrats as being too cute, our executive producer would scold us.”

He went on to talk about these adult character designs for the characters saying:

“The Rugrats did not all grow up to be fashion models or self-confident hipsters. Especially not Chuckie. They probably grew up to be average if not slightly lumpy looking people — just like their parents.”

It’s interesting to see how these characters might have turned out after all these years.

LOST IN SPACE Sci-Fi Series Remake Is Headed to Netflix

$

Legendary TV has been developing a remake of the classic 1965 sci-fi series Lost in Space, and Deadline is now reporting that it’s headed to Netflix. Netflix has been the go to place for great series, and most of the original programming stuff that they stream is top-notch quality. I think this Lost in Space series will have a good home there.

The new Lost In Space show is described as an “epic but grounded science fiction saga focusing on a young explorer family from earth lost in an alien universe and the challenges they face in staying together against seemingly insurmountable odds.”

Neil Marshall (The Descent) is producing the series and is also expected to direct. It is being written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who most recently worked on Dracula Untold. I didn’t really care for that movie, but hopefully the two writers can do a better job with Lost in Space.

The original 1965 series was set 30 years into the future (1997), and the story revolved around an attempt by the U.S. to colonize deep space by sending a single family, the Robinsons, on a 5 1/2-year journey to another planet. But a foreign secret agent, Dr. Zachary Smith, sabotaged the mission, causing the ship to veer off course and become lost in space. It ran for three seasons on CBS, and there are a total of 83 episodes.

We've seen a lot of older TV shows getting adapted into movies, but I like the fact that this one will be sticking with the TV format. There was actually a movie adaption made back in 1998, but it was pretty forgettable.

You’ve got to check out this ultra-violent and blood-filled stop-motion animated LEGO short film called "Captain America 3: Nazi Zombies." It was created by Youtube user Forrestfire101 (aka Forrest Whaley), and it’s just as awesome as you hoped a film with this title would be.

It starts off with Captain America riding his motorcycle through a German city occupied by the Nazis. He ends up hitting a landmine that explodes, and he is knocked unconscious until nightfall. When he wakes up he finds himself surrounded by Nazi zombies he must battle to survive!

This is an incredibly entertaining fan film that I'm sure most of you will enjoy, so check it out!

First Clip From STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and SPOILER Story Details from Kids' Book

$

We've seen a few trailers and a bunch of TV spots for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but today we bring you the first film clip. It's a brief, exciting clip that features some explosive footage of Finn, Rey, and BB-8 trying escape a squadron of First Order TIE Fighters. Things really aren't going well for them.

Under the clip, you will find a list of story points for the film that come from a "Look and Find" kids book that leaked on Imgur. The information does contain SPOILERS, so read that information at your own risk. However, this clip doesn't spoil anything!

If you've seen the previously released footage, then you know that this scene eventually leads them to the Millennium Falcon, which Rey pilots.

Here's some interesting information from the book that was found via Making Star Wars. Again... these do contain SPOILERS!

  • Max von Sydow is Lor San Tekka as we reported some time ago.
  • Lor San Tekka and Poe meet on Jakku at night.
  • They put Lor’s message inside BB-8 and send him off into the night.
  • Maz is apparently Han’s old mentor. Post-Return of the Jedi or as far back as the anthology film? He hopes she can help them with their mission to return BB-8 to the Resistance.
  • Finn wants to rescue Rey before the Resistance destroys the base.
  • A spy on Takodana tells the First Order the heroes are there. Phasma readies a surprise attack on the castle.
  • During the battle of Takodana, Leia’s X-wing Squadrons save the day.
  • Rey and BB-8 are captured on Takodana.
  • D’Qar is the planet the Resistance is stationed on. Han, Finn, and Chewie crash the Falcon into the Starkiller base.

One of the most interesting parts of this was to learn that that Maz Kanata was Han Solo's old mentor. It makes me wonder if that means we'll see Maz in the standalone Han Solo prequel film that Phil Lord and Chris Miller are developing. Then there's the fate of the Millennium Falcon, which I hope isn't completely destroyed in this crash! I'm sure Han, Finn, and Chewie survive, though, right!?!?

The movie comes out on December 18th.

It's been a very long time since I've watched the original Power Rangers series. I've forgotten a lot about this show. I didn't realize how much I forgot until I watched this video called "The 10 Things You Forgot About Power Rangers' First Episode." It was created by IGN, and it's definitely worth watching if you grew up watching the show. It seems totally normal to have forgotten this stuff unless you've revisited the show in recent years, or you just have an insanely good memory!

Minions have become wildly popular since they were first introduced to the world in the Despicable Me. Earlier this year they even got their own movie, which ended up being a pretty big hit at the box office. That movie is going to be released on DVD/Blu-ray soon, and Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have released a new Minion short film for fans to enjoy that will be included in the special features.

The Minion mini movie is called "Competition," and it features two minions amusingly competing with each other through the whole film. If you're a fan of these little yellow characters, then I'm sure you'll enjoy what this short has to offer.

There are also two other short films that will be included in the special features titled "Cro-Minion" and "Binky Nelson Unpacified." Minions will be available for purchase on November 24th.

THE FORCE AWAKENS Is Complete and J.J. Abrams Talks Favorite STAR WARS Alien, Lens Flares, and More

$

Over the weekend, J.J. Abrams showed up at the "Celebrity Nerd-Off" event at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center with The Late Show host Stephen Colbert. While at the event he revealed that he completed the final cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Saturday morning at 2:38 am. Now that the film is finished Abrams can sit back, relax a bit, and let Disney continue to market the shit out of the movie until it's released on December 18th.

Abrams talked about a few other things like who his favorite alien in the Star Wars universe is, cutting back on his use of lens flares in the movie, and a J.R.R. Tolkien film project that Colbert would like Abrams to direct.

During the panel Abrams was asked about his favorite alien creature in the Star Wars universe that didn't have a main role in the film. Abrams chose an alien named Kardue’sai’Malloc, the red grinning devil looking guy from the Cantina scene. The director explains:

"The first thing that comes to my mind, and I don’t know his name but I’m sure he’s got a novel written about him, was in the cantina, that guy who smiled. This guy with this amazing face, and I remember as a kid seeing it, and just being like, holy crap. It wasn’t just that it was cool-looking, but it was that little thing that was representative of what George Lucas was doing everywhere you looked … They were characters that told you there was life and character and drama happening beyond the borders of what you were seeing, and it was an inspiring, inspiring thing."

When talking about the use of lens flares in the movie, Abrams said:

“I’ve kind of pulled back. As you’ll see in the Star Wars movie, I’ve allowed lens flares to take a very backseat. We’re making sure that it looks photorealistic and photoreal, but every time there could be a flare — because you know, I like to do that a lot — I would say ‘These are not the flares you’re looking for.'”

Of course, we all know there are going to be a few. There are a couple of them that pop up in the most recent trailer. Later on during the Q&A session a member of the audience asked Colbert what Tolkien project he would like to see Abrams to direct, and this was his response:

“I would ask him to make what’s called the Akallabêth. It’s got all your greatest hits in it. It’s got elves in it, it’s got Sauron in it… It’s a perfect story. It’s complete. I think of anything in The Silmarillion, you should do that.”

For those of you not familiar, The Akallabêth is the fourth section of Tolkien’s The Silmarillion. If you want more details on what it entails, click here. It would be amazing if that were turned into a movie, but I seriously doubt it will ever happen.

Abrams has been hard at work on The Force Awakens the past three years, and he admits that he's ready to say goodbye to it.

“It’s been like living with the greatest roommate in history for too long. It’s time for it to get its own place. It’s been the greatest and I can’t tell you how much I want him to get out and go into the world and meet other people. We know each other really well... Of course I’m, in turns, thrilled beyond words and more terrified than I can say.”

James Gunn Reveals Early Star-Lord Helmet Design for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

james-gunn-reveals-early-star-lord-helmet-design-for-guardians-of-the-galaxy

Director James Gunn recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo from Guardians of the Galaxy features a very early design for the helmet that Chris Pratt's Star-Lord would wear. The image came with the following note:

"#fbf Very early version of the Star-Lord mask. I wanted the eyes to be big, as if he was perpetually surprised, not your regular hero. We might have overdone it a bit here. #GotG#flashbackfriday"

This one definitely seems to have a more cartoonish type look than the version that Gunn ended up using. I think both looks have a fun uniqueness to them, but I ultimately like the final design that they used. Gunn explained that he oversees "every facet" of what the characters look like in the film.

I also included a piece of early concept art below that this helmet design comes from.

Paramount Setting Up Writers Rooms To Decide Future of G.I. JOE and MICRONAUTS Franchises

Not long ago, Paramount Pictures took a page from the TV production playbook and created a writers room to generate ideas for the future of the Transformers franchise. Batman & Robin and A Beautiful Mind writer Akiva Goldsman led the group, and the result of the studio's efforts was coming up with at least five viable ideas for upcoming movies. It looks like Paramount liked how the writers room idea turned out, because they've hired Goldsman to oversee new rooms for G.I. Joe and Micronauts, two more Hasbro properties the studio is hoping will make big money for them down the line.

Deadline reports that because Goldsman has been brought on as the overlord of these new rooms, he will no longer write the screenplay for Transformers 5 as previously planned. Paramount is now talking with writers room participants Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) and Black Hawk Down writer Ken Nolan in the hopes that the three of them will write the script together.

There's no word yet on who will be a part of the G.I. Joe and Micronauts writers rooms, but it wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine Goldsman bringing back many of the same people he worked with in the Transformers room. Those people included The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, Christina Hodson, Lindsay Beer, Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnightGeneva Robertson-Dworet, Zak Penn, and Jeff Pinkner.

Do you have confidence in Goldsman's abilities to oversee a team that will create good ideas for the future of these franchises? My personal take? At least he's not writing Transformers 5 anymore. (I still don't think it's going to be good, but that's a whole different article.)

Wonderfully Hilarious Full Trailer For Disney's ZOOTOPIA

Disney has released the first full trailer for their upcoming animated adventure, Zootopia. I haven't seen a lot of hype surrounding this movie since it was first announced, but maybe this full-length trailer will change that. I've already seen some of this footage because they screened some stuff at D23 earlier this year, and I've enjoyed everything that I've seen from this movie so far. This is a great trailer that shows you some of the funny humor that the movie will include, and I really think Disney fans are going to get a kick out of it. The sloth character that you'll be introduced to in this trailer is freakin' hysterical. It's such a funny concept for a character.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,”

The comedy-adventure is being directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph, The Simpsons) and co-directed by Jared Bush (Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero). The voice cast also includes Shakira, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Nate Torrence, Jenny Slate, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Alan Tudyk, Tommy “Tiny” Lister, Raymond Persi, Katie Lowes, Jesse Corti, and John DiMaggio.

Zootopia opens in theaters on March 4th, 2016.
