GAME OF THRONES Season 6 Poster Teases Jon Snow

$

It’s a bird! It’s a crow! It’s bloody Jon Snow!

HBO is here to tease us with a brand new poster for the highly anticipated sixth season of Game of Thrones. The new image unveils when to expect the premiere (April, obviously), but it also shows us something else. The much-debated return of Jon Snow in the new season seems to be finally set as we can see him being kind of…alive? Maybe breathing? Err…well, he is just sort of "there," but I'm sure that'll be enough for the conspiracy theorists out there.

Ever since the final episode of Season 5 when Snow was stabbed by his own Night's Watch friends, there have been numerous rumors and much speculation about his death and his resurrection. What will actually happen? It still remains unknown, but we will find out soon.

See THE FLASH, BATMAN, and More DC Comics Characters in Full-Sized LEGO Form

Last month, we wrote about artist Nathan Sawaya's awesome full-sized Batmobile made entirely of LEGO bricks. That Batmobile was made as a centerpiece for a cool art exhibit that's now open at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia called The Art of the Brick: DC Comics, and THR has some new photos from the exhibition of different DC-inspired art Sawaya has created.

Among the 120 original art pieces Sawaya made, there are a few really cool ones that pop culture fans will likely get a kick out of. Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Riddler, The Joker, and Aquaman are all featured, but my favorite has to be the piece depicting The Flash speeding by. Let us know your favorite in the comments below (and click here to see the full Batmobile in all of its glory).

Keanu Reeves is Back to Kick More Ass in JOHN WICK 2 Set Photos

In what has become a truly rare phenomenon in the age of the internet, I haven't come across anyone who has badmouthed John Wick. Keanu Reeves' badass assassin movie is nearly universally beloved by those who have seen it, and excitement for the upcoming John Wick 2 has been building ever since it was announced. Chad Stehelski is taking the reins and directing the sequel by himself this time, but if these new set photos are any indication, it looks like we're in for more of the same level of ass-kicking from Wick, a legend in the film's world of shady assassins.

It's good to see that Wick isn't taking any prisoners. We're still not sure what event is the catalyst for launching him back into action after the ending of the first film, but we do know that Common, Ruby Rose, Peter Stormare, Ian MacShane, John Leguizamo, and Lance Reddick will be seen alongside Reeves this time around. The movie is shooting in New York right now before moving to Rome next year, and I'm excited to see what that international setting means for the world-building of this story. Are you excited about John Wick 2?

Man Attempts To Rob Florida Store Dressed as Darth Vader

Apparently seduced by the dark side of the Force, a Florida man donned a Darth Vader costume and attempted to rob a convenience store yesterday.

FirstCoastNews reports that Jacob Jeremy Mercer, 32, entered an 8 till Late store dressed in the costume and, armed with a gun, demanded money from a store employee. Maybe he was trying to get some cash to buy his tickets for The Force Awakens? It's unclear whether Mercer tried to use a Jedi mind trick on the clerk when asking for the cash from the register, but if he did, it certainly didn't work. Check out what happened when the employee refused to give "Vader" the money.

A store employee says he threw a wine bottle at the suspect, who wearing a Darth Vader costume. The suspect then ran out of the store.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly after, police said. No one else was injured.

Throwing a wine bottle at a guy's face? That's a hell of a move when he has a gun pointed at you! That employee sounds like a badass. Also, a side note: I don't know whether or not this is something I should be proud of, but this happened in Jacksonville Beach, just a few minutes from my hometown. Oh, Florida. Never change.

Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 Would Have Focused on Corporal Hicks and Newt

We have some more information on Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 that makes me wish even more that his movie was being made instead of Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant. I know there's still a chance that one day Blomkamp will get to make his movie, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. At least not until Scott is done with what he wants to do with the franchise.

During an interview with Icons Of Fright, actor Michael Biehn offered some insight into the characters Alien 5 would have focused on. We all believed that Sigourney Weaver's Ripley would be the focus, but it turns out it actually would have been Corporal Hicks and a grown-up Newt. Biehn said:

"They’re planning on bringing me and Newt back and at this point Newt will be around twenty-seven years old. I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it’s really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt. It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that’s what the bottom line is now: money. That’s why you end up seeing 'Terminator' 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 'The Fast And Furious' 7, 8, 9, and 10."

It really a great idea for a launching point to keep these films going. I always like the character Newt and I was so pissed off when Alien 3 killed her and Hicks off. That was one of the dumbest decisions ever made in the franchise, and I love that Blomkamp has found a way to bring them back for more action.

I really hope that one day this film gets made, but I'm not going to hold my breath. It seems like Ridley Scott just doesn't want it to happen. You can read up on all our Alien 5 movie news here. What do you think about what Biehn had to say about the direction the movie was headed?

Peter Jackson's Spokesman Says Behind-The-Scenes HOBBIT Footage Was Taken Out of Context

$

0

A few days ago, we wrote about a behind-the-scenes video that featured footage of director Peter Jackson and his team discussing the difficulties he had while making The Hobbit movies. The gist of it is that Guillermo del Toro developed the project for a year and a half before ultimately walking away, and then Jackson stepped in to direct it with no time for his own pre-production, leaving him wildly unprepared when it came to both the visuals and the story. It's one of the most candid behind-the-scenes discussions I've heard about a movie so recently after its release, and I was frankly a little shocked that Warner Bros. allowed that footage to see the light of day (it doesn't make the studio look great).

But now Jackson's spokesman reached out to Snuff.co.nz (via ScreenCrush) and is saying that the footage was taken out of context from a 45-minute featurette from The Battle of the Five Armies extended edition:

"Somebody has decided to create this cut-down, using only the sections of The Gathering Clouds that discuss the difficulties faced, not the positive ways they were addressed and overcome – which are also covered in this and other featurettes.
Peter has never made a secret of the fact that he took over the Hobbit directing job with very little preparation time remaining before shooting had to begin.
It was a challenge he willingly took on. His comments are an honest reflection of his own personal feelings at times during the movie’s production."

The comments did not reflect on the production of the movies, or the finished result, the spokesman said.

"Peter is very proud of the three Hobbit movies, and actually regards this period as one of his happiest film-making experiences – something he has said publicly many times."

Of course his comments reflected on the production of the movies and the finished result! That's exactly what he was commenting on! But out of context or not, Jackson's body language in both the on-set footage and the floating head segments indicate a man beaten down by the process of making these films in a way that was not even close to the way he would have if given the time to do it properly. This just seems like a half-assed attempt to save face after this video went viral and essentially confirmed what a lot of fans suspected as they watched these movies play out before them in theaters: no one had any clue what the hell they were doing when they were making them. Even after all of that, if you still think The Hobbit movies aren't an outright disaster, watch this excellent video essay and I'm guessing it'll change your mind.

JESSICA JONES Showrunner Talks About a Possible Season 2 and THE DEFENDERS

$

The first season of Marvel's Jessica Jones dropped on Netflix late last week, and many fans have already torn through every episode. I've seen a ton of positive responses to it so far (I didn't have time to binge watch it this weekend), with many saying it's an even better show than Daredevil. I know Mike Colter's Luke Cage shows up in the series and plants the seeds for his own series, and I suspect Krysten Ritter's Jessica will at least make an appearance in his solo show, but will we see a second season of Jessica Jones before the eventual team-up series The Defenders?

That's the exact question that THR posed to Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg in an otherwise spoilery interview, and this was her response:

Is there room for a second season of Jessica Jones before The Defenders in your mind?
I hope so. There certainly is storytelling wise. The question becomes is there actual time? There are logistics involved, because Defenders has to shoot by a certain time, contractually. Actually, I'm not sure; I'm not at all involved in those conversations, much to my dismay. The first question is whether or not we will even get a second season. The second question is, if so, when? Will it be before The Defenders or after? I'd certainly love it to be before but there are things that play into that — time, availability.
When they get to Defenders they're obviously going to be using Jessica and you say that you won't necessarily be involved with that. How much are you going to want to be involved? Are you going to want to have conversations with The Defenders people and say, "Here's what you have to know about Jessica"?
I'm a complete control freak when it comes to this character. I will do everything in my power to protect the character in whatever forms. They'll have to throw me kicking and screaming out of that building. But they own the property. They've really been inclusive thus far so I'm not really worried about it.

There's still no concrete plan in place for the future of Iron Fist (the latest update is "it's being worked on"), another solo show that was supposed to be introduced before The Defenders arrived on Netflix. As ScreenCrush points out, it only took eleven days after Daredevil's premiere before Marvel announced a second season of that show, so we'll see if a similar time frame holds true in regards to Jessica Jones. Have you already binged the first season? What did you think? Do you want to see season two before The Defenders arrives, or would you rather that happen after the eight episode superhero team-up show?

Watch: How Joss Whedon's SERENITY Blended The Sci-Fi and Western Genres to Become a Cult Classic

I don't know if there's ever been a fan base so fervent about a show cancelled after one season than the one devoted to Joss Whedon's Firefly. I was part of the problem because I didn't watch the show when it was originally on the air, I only finally sat down to watch it after I saw Whedon's 2005 film Serenity, which serves as a sequel to the TV show and closes many of the story threads that were left hanging in the wake of Firefly's cancellation.

One of the things that drew me to the movie despite never having seen the show was the way it appeared to blend the science fiction and western genres, creating its own unique universe. (Well, that and a friend who told me I could watch the movie without seeing the show and I'd still be able to follow what was happening.) The film's genre blending is the subject of a new video essay by Digging Deeper, and it's a good reminder of the way Whedon pulled from the best of both worlds when he created his feature film debut — not only visually, but also thematically. Check it out below and let us know what you think. Man, this makes me really want to rewatch Firefly and Serenity all over again.

(Spoilers kick in for Serenity around the 9:30 mark or so.)

Angelina Jolie Wanted For BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and WANTED 2

Did anyone see Angelina Jolie's latest film By The Sea? Well, it's completely bombing at the box office. I haven't seen it for two reasons: it looks depressing as hell and everyone I know that has seen it has said it sucks ass. You can read our review for it here. Regardless of the fact that the movie is bombing, it's not going to kill Jolie's career and Universal Pictures still wants to work with her. They just want these future projects to be more mainstream projects.

According to THR, the studio wants the actress to star in their feature film remake of Bride of Frankenstein, which is part of the monster cinematic universe that is being developed by producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. They are also looking to bring her back to reprise her role in a sequel to Wanted

Jolie really seems perfect for the part of the female lead in Bride of Frankenstein. She's just got that look. It'd be cool if she was cast, but I still have serious doubts that Universal is actually going to be able to reboot these classic monster films properly.

As for Wanted 2, her character freakin' died at the end of the first movie. Sometimes dead just has to mean dead. As much as I enjoyed Wanted, if they do a sequel, I'd rather it happen without Jolie's character. The fact they want to bring her back makes the whole thing absurd. I'm surprised they are still looking at making it after all these years!

What do you think about Universal's possible future plans with Jolie?

GAME OF THRONES' King's Landing Recreated in Gingerbread Form

King's Landing, the capitol of Westeros, has been the setting for some massive political upheaval in HBO's Game of Thrones. And while it's been recreated in Minecraft, I much prefer this delicious-looking depiction of the city in gingerbread form that was on display this past weekend at Taste of London 2015.

Michelle Wibowo of Michelle Sugar Art is the one responsible for creating this magnificent metropolis, and she did a fantastic job. From the Sept of Baelor to the towering Red Keep, all of the major landmarks are in place (I'm sure Littlefinger's brothel is also in there somewhere). HBO released the season 6 teaser poster for Game of Thrones earlier this morning, and you can check that out here if you haven't seen it yet. Meanwhile, feast your eyes on this cool confection:

Game of Thrones King's landing in gingerbread is displayed at London Taste festival , Tobacco Dock London from 19th-22nd...

New Trailer For THE BIG SHORT: Carell, Gosling, Pitt, and Bale Battle The Banks

$

While there are moments of comedy in The Big Short, it's definitely the most dramatic, adult film writer/director Adam McKay has made so far. Known for movies like Anchorman, Step Brothers, and The Other Guys, this new film doesn't feature Will Ferrell running around making a fool of himself — in fact, Ferrell's not in it at all. Instead, McKay has recruited an A-list cast to tell the true story about how the country's banks completely screwed all of us over during the nation's 2008 economic collapse, resulting in something that could be considered a companion piece to Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. (Read my review of the movie from this month's AFI FEST.)

Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for the film, which gives many of its cast members his or her moment to shine. The Big Short arrives in limited theaters on December 11th and will be available in wide release on December 23rd.

When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea:  The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. Based on the true story and best-selling book by Michael Lewis (The Blind Side, Moneyball), and directed by Adam Mckay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) The Big Short stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.

Every Easter Egg and Reference in Marvel's JESSICA JONES

I freakin' loved Marvel's Jessica Jones. The subject matter was insanely dark and it's easily the most hardcore thing Marvel Studios has made to date. I enjoyed it just as much as I did Daredevil. Hell, maybe even a little more because of how twisted David Tennant was as the villain. This is the MCU's craziest, most diabolical villain yet. I've already watched through the first season, and I'll be watching it at least one more time this week. I really hope that we get a second season sooner rather than later. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg recently talked about that in an interview you can check out here.

Thanks to Mr. Sunday Movies, we have a video for you to watch that points out every Easter egg and reference that was included in the series. There's a lot of stuff I didn't catch on the first viewing. It's definitely worth watching if you've finished the series. If you haven't finished it, I wouldn't watch it yet because it contains spoilers.

FX Renews FARGO For Third Season

Noah Hawley's Fargo is one of the best shows on television, and the current second season has more than lived up to the promise of its terrific debut season. The way Hawley captures the tone of a Coen Brothers movie while telling entirely new and compelling stories is fantastic, and there may not be a more beautifully-shot series than this one on the air right now.

FX has announced that they've ordered a third season of the show, and Hawley will return as showrunner. Executive producers Joel and Ethan Coen, Warren Littlefield, and John Cameron will be back as well, so the creative life-force behind the show is going to be preserved for another season. The only bad news is that we don't have any more details than that to go on regarding season three — and that's not even bad news, it just means we're going to have to be patient.

There's no air date or cast in place yet, and we don't even know the time period in which it's going to take place. The first season hinted at the Sioux Falls massacre a handful of times, and season two, a prequel that takes place in 1979, appears to be on the path toward depicting what happened there. But thus far, the second season hasn't dropped many notable references to previous events that seem like they'd be worth exploring in-depth in a third season, so I'm wondering if Hawley is going to return to modern day or if he'll go in a different direction entirely, maybe following a different character outside of the Solverson family.

As far as I'm concerned, all that matters is that Hawley has enough time to craft a story as fulfilling as the ones we've seen so far in the first and second seasons. Give him as long as it takes — if I can wait years between Sherlock seasons, I'm willing to wait for more high quality Fargo episodes. The last thing we want is for FX to impose a strict deadline and for Hawley to have to rush the story like Nic Pizzolatto did with the second season of True Detective over at HBO. I don't think I could take it if Fargo took as bad of a nosedive as True Detective did. This show deserves better, so I'm glad FX seems to be treating it well so far. We'll keep you posted with more updates when we hear them.

What do you think of the second season of Fargo so far? Are you excited about a third season?

Review: THE GOOD DINOSAUR Is an Awe-Inspiring Frontier Adventure

$

I was sold on Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur the moment I heard what it was going to be about. Everyone loves dinosaurs! My excitement for the movie grew the more that I saw of it. I knew this movie was going to be good because it's Pixar. What I didn’t know is that it would actually turn out to be my favorite movie that Pixar has made so far. This movie was spectacular in every way, shape, and form. There is nothing that I didn’t like about this movie, and I really hope that fans of Pixar and Disney enjoy it just as much as I did.

The moment the film started I knew that I was in for something special. The whole story and tone of the film was inspired by the frontier western adventure films that I grew up watching. As most of our dedicated readers know, I’m a huge fan of westerns, and this movie was packed full of elements from that genre that I enjoy so much. Some of those things include the characters, the wonderful settings, the musical themes, and the adventurous story. Only, the main characters in the story are all dinosaurs and a human boy that acts like a dog! That was all part of the charm of the film, though.

In my opinion, The Good Dinosaur is also the most beautifully animated film that Pixar has made to date. The landscapes were stunningly magnificent and were basically photo-realistic. I’d never seen anything like that before in a Pixar movie, and even though the character designs in the film were cartoonish, the details that were included brought them to life in a delightful way. It was incredible to see how the combinations of these two artist decisions came together in such an exquisite way.

The story follows a young dinosaur named Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) who is the runt of the litter. He tries his best to be the dinosaur that his dad and family want him to be, but he’s different from all of them and doesn’t think he has what it takes to live up to their standards no matter how hard he tries. While helping his dad on a job on their ranch, he ends up in a situation where he is forced to survive in the harsh world outside of what he is used to as he tries to find his way back home. During his journey, he finds help from a little boy he names Spot and a few other characters, like a trio of T-Rex’s. I won’t get any deeper into the story than that, but it’s full of fun, adventurous surprises.

I will say that my favorite part of the film is when Arlo and Spot join a trio of T-Rex’s named Butch, Ramsey, and Nash, who were wonderfully voiced by Sam Elliot, Anna Paquin, and A.J. Buckley respectively. I’m a huge fan of Elliot, and it was so great to see him lend his voice to such a great character who helps give Arlo the confidence he needs to complete his journey.

Other members of the main cast include Jeffery Wright as Poppa, Frances McDormand as Momma, Steve Zahn as Thunderclap, and John Ratzenberger as Earl. As you might expect, all of them did a fantastic job in helping make The Good Dinosaur a top notch film.

The emotional core of this film is intense, and by the end of the movie I was a teary and sniffling mess. This is one of those Pixar films that hit me hard on a “so happy it made me cry” level. Hey, I’m a sensitive guy, and Pixar has perfected the art of pulling on people's emotions.

I think one of the reasons why it hit me so hard emotionally was because it revolves around the concept of “home” and what “home” is. I see home as more of a spiritual/personal thing than a physical thing like a house. I’ve lost my way from home in my life due to an onslaught of crazy storms that have hit me. Again, I’m not talking about the physical aspect of losing your way, but through the crazy emotional journey of life. It’s not always easy to find your way back either. I’m sure many of you have gone through your own experiences, things can get really rough! It may not involve trekking through forests and mountains, fighting off dinosaurs or surviving massive storms, but it certainly may feel like it at times! When we are going through these hard times, it's always nice to find help along the way to get us through it, and help us return home. In my mind, this is what The Good Dinosaur is about. It’s about finding our way back “home” when we find ourselves lost in the world, and befriending those special people who come into our lives to help us get there, even if it’s someone we least suspect.

The Good Dinosaur is a brilliantly beautiful feel-good film, and it’s one that I encourage all of you to see when it comes out on November 25th! I really think you’ll all love and enjoy it.

The only part about the last episode of The Walking Dead that I found interesting was the fact that my theory about Glenn was right! I won’t go into any details about it in case you haven’t seen the episode yet.

The next episode is the mid-season finale, and it’s titled “Start to Finish.” We have a promo spot and clip for you watch. Before you jump into that, though, here’s the brief synopsis:

“After having a few moments of peace, trouble finds its way to Alexandria yet again. Only this time, the threat might be too big to defeat.”

If you saw what happened at the very end of the last episode then you know the insanity that awaits the small community of Alexandria.

George Lucas' Star Wars Holiday Special is one of the greatest worst things that was ever created. Now you can briefly relive the awkward magic with this silly trailer for it that was recut in the style of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The video was created by Diane Bullock and Mike Schuster for Vulture, and it came with the following note:

The Holiday Special featured such off-brand spectacles as a performance by Jefferson Starship and a bit where Bea Arthur talks to a giant space-rat. But guess what, folks: Lucas isn’t in charge of Star Wars anymore. So, in honor of The Force Awakens’s new direction for the Star Wars franchise — and in honor of the impending holiday season — we proudly present our imagining of Star Wars: The Holiday Special Awakens.

FANTASTIC FOUR Sequel Yanked Off of Fox's Release Schedule

There's been a lot of talk regarding Fox's desire to move forward with a sequel to Josh Trank's disastrous Fantastic Four film. I'm happy to report that the studio has pulled the sequel off of their release schedule and the development of it is lingering in limbo. The news came from in an announcement from the studio.

The movie was scheduled to be released in theaters on June 9th, 2017, which is one week after Star Wars: Episode VIII. Now, just because the movie has been removed from the schedule doesn't mean it's a dead project. Fantastic Four 2 could still happen one day, but now there's no target date to shoot for.

It remains to be seen what will happen now, but after that last film was released I don't think Fox should ever be allowed to make a Fantastic Four movie again. I'm sure one day they'll try again, but it probably won't be anytime soon. The best thing for them to do at this point is just let Marvel take it back so they can fix what Fox has destroyed.

Fantastic Four made $56 million at the domestic box office with a global total of $167 million. It reportedly cost about $120 million to make. After all the money that was pumped into the marketing of the film as well, the movie didn't really make much of a profit, and it ended up bombing in every capacity.
