10 of The Coolest Laser Gun Scenes in Movie History

$
0
0

As a kid, one of the defining images of "the future" that I remember seeing on film was a robot army blasting away at the human resistance in the opening moments of James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day. From that moment on, I thought laser guns would be a part of "the future" just as much as I believed in hoverboards, flying cars, and jetpacks. There have been some pretty spectacular laser gun battles depicted on film over the years, and the gang at WatchMojo is back with another video to examine some of them.

I'm with them on the inclusion of most of these, and as much as it pains me to give any props to any of the Star Wars prequels, if Attack of the Clones deserves anything, I suppose it's a spot on this list. Did all of your favorites make the cut?

The 1986 cult classic adventure film Big Trouble in Little China is being remade, and of course Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is going to star in it. The actor is currently in negotiations to take on the lead role of Jack Burton, who was originally played by Kurt Russell

dwayne-johnson-set-for-big-trouble-in-little-china-remake

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and it was just a matter of time before Hollywood would make the move to remake it. The original film was directed by John Carpenter, and the story centered on Jack Burton, a trucker who end up in the middle of a centuries-old mythical battle in Chinatown between feuding clans.

The new movie is being written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who both worked on films such as Thor and X-Men: First Class. The last time I heard about the remake was back in 2011, and I wish it would have just stayed dead. The movie doesn't need to be remade, but I guess you can't stop the Hollywood machine from doing its thing.

Johnson's San Andreas opened up in theaters this weekend and did extremely well, pulling in more than $100 million. I don't know if you saw it yet, but I thought it was unintentionally one of the best action-comedies of the year.

What do you all think of Johnson taking on the lead role in this remake?

Marvel has released a dozen new photos from their highly-anticipated film Ant-Man. A couple of these are high resolution versions of images that we’ve already seen. They include Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Douglas, and our first look at David Dastmalchian’s character, Kurt.

In the movie, Scott Lang “inherits a suit that allows him to shrink in size while maintaining proportionate strength. Under guidance from Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne, Scott must embrace the power of the suit and pull off a heist that will save the world!”

Ant-Man lands in theaters on July 17th.

The most recent "The Line is Drawn" challenge from CBR reimagined several modern day superheroes in the Golden Age comic book era. My favorite piece is the reimagining of Batman Beyond created by Daniel Dahl. It’s such an incredibly cool design! It’s one of those things that I’d love to see someone bring to life in the form of cosplay. I’ve also included a few other illustrations from the series for you to check out below.

New Possible Details on Batman's Role in SUICIDE SQUAD

We've heard a lot of rumors regarding Batman's role in Suicide Squad over the last few months, and we recently seen some photos of the hero on the set of the film. Thanks to Umberto Gonzalez from Heroic Hollywood, we now have some some additional details on how the Dark Knight will fit into the story, and a key scene is described below.

SPOILER WARNING:

The following information came from numerous sources, but it's still subject to change depending on the final cut of the film or other factors. Here's the description of the scene:

In short, he goes and pays Amanda Waller a visit. Batman BREAKS into her massive security prison. In fact...he's already inside Amanda Waller's office waiting for her in the shadows when she appears. The guards are clueless. Batman has a bone to pick with Waller. You see Batman is totally against the concept behind the Suicide Squad, in fact he warns Waller that he will hold her personally responsible for any innocents The Joker & the rest of the Suicide Squad kill. A warning so stern that he has to visit Waller personally to deliver the message.

Batman isn't going to have a huge role in the film, but his presence is obviously going to be heavily felt. Not just in this film, but in the rest of the DC cinematic universe as well. It will be interesting to see if Batman is going to have to lay down the law on Waller.

Proof-of-Concept Fan Film for BATTLE ANGEL ALITA

Director James Cameron has been wanting to make a film based on Yukito Kishiro's Manga series Battle Angel Alita for years. He’s been tied up in the Avatar world, though, and it doesn’t seem like he’s ever going to get around too it.

A group of fans didn't wait for Cameron to make the movie, and they’ve developed a short film for other fans to enjoy. This is a proof-of-concept film called "The Alita Project," and it was developed by writer Forrest McClain and director Natasha Kermani. As you’ll see below, it turned out to be extremely cool!

"This film is meant to solely to display our vision for a live-action Alita. Learn more about the project at alitafanproject.com."

It’s just a little tease to show what these talented individuals can do, and I’d love to them expand on their vision. If you’re a fan of the Manga, I hope you like what this short has to offer.

Jason Statham Would Love to Play James Bond

When Daniel Craig is done playing James Bond in the the 007 film franchise, Jason Statham is ready to take his place. During an interview with the Guardian, Statham was asked if he would be interested in taking on the role of Bond in the future and he enthusiastically stated,

“Could I do it? Abso-fucking-lutely. Would I do it? Abso-fucking-lutely. Is Daniel Craig a great Bond? Abso-fucking-lutely.”

I would love to see Statham take on the role on Bond. There's no doubt in my mind that he would play a kick-ass version of the character. The actor goes on to admit that he would make a decent Bond, but adds that it would be "very, very different if I did it.”

It would definitely be a different take on the character, and one that I would really be curious to see. When he was asked if he would be interested in playing a Bond villain he said,

“Er… I don’t know if I wanna to do that. That’s not my thing. I’d rather play the other guy.”

So what do you all think? Should Statham be considered for the role of James Bond when Craig is done with the franchise? If not, what other actors would you be interested in seeing take on the part of the legendary Secret Intelligence Service agent?

Spider-Man Rumored to be Referenced in ANT-MAN

We all know that Spider-Man will be making his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll make his first physical appearance in Captain America: Civil War, but according to a new rumor, the first mention of the character in the MCU could happen in Ant-Man. The news comes from Latino-Review, who reports:

"We've heard an unconfirmed rumor there is "lots of" talk of/references to Spider-Man and OsCorp in the current version of Ant-Man."

A reference or mention of the superhero and OsCorp doesn’t seem like it would be out of the question. I know there were some on-set script re-writes going on while director Peyton Reed was shooting Ant-Man, so it wouldn't surprise me if something like this was added.

It makes sense that the studio would want to start planting the seeds of the webslinger in the MCU before he actually shows up in it.

Review: ENTOURAGE Is An Excellent Adaptation, But That Doesn't Mean It's Good

$
0
0

In its eight seasons on the air, Entourage went from a relatively small HBO series about the inner workings of Hollywood to the go-to bastion of bro culture. Its surface-level elements — the cars, the women, the gay jokes — have overtaken any relic of what the show may have once tried to be, and creator/showrunner Doug Ellin didn't do much to change that perception. The result is a property that carries a lot of baggage with it, and a dividing line has been drawn. Love it or hate it, Entourage is back — and it's the same as it always was. This is not a complicated adaptation: if you loved the show, you'll love the movie. It's a feature-length episode of the show, complete with all of the baggage that entails.

This is not a good film. It exhibits all the worst qualities of the show, including a propensity for everything to work out in the end despite characters making mistakes along the way. Consequences be damned, Entourage says, because if you're a rich white dude in Hollywood, of course everything is going to go your way. I suspect this is a large part of why the show was so successful: dudes want to live vicariously through these characters, because they almost never have to deal with the repercussions of their actions in any meaningful way.

The film opens with a yacht party for movie star Vincent Chase (Adrien Grenier), who is celebrating the divorce that happened between his engagement in the show's series finale and now. The movie instantly wipes away any sense of closure the show presented, simultaneously giving a giant middle finger to the audience ("You watched eight seasons of this show and thought it meant something? Haha, screw you!") and giving some of the audience — probably, depressingly, most of them — precisely what they want to see ("You watched eight seasons of this show? Hold up, let me give this story a clean slate so we can do exactly the same things that happened in the show you loved!"). Eric (Kevin Connolly), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara), and Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon) are all up to their same old schtick, and super-agent Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) has decided not to retire after all, taking the studio head job offer that was on the table last time we saw him.

Vince decides he wants to direct his next project, so Ari gives him the greenlight for a $100 million reimagining of Jekyll and Hyde in which Vince plays the classic character as a conflicted futuristic DJ who leads a revolt against the police. (Yes, it's as idiotic as it sounds.) But they go over budget, and the whole conflict of the film is about whether or not Ari will be able to convince some Texas financiers (played by Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment, the latter doing an atrocious accent) to pony up extra cash to let them finish the movie. Meanwhile, all of the sexism and bro humor you remember from the show is on full display, and practically any time a woman speaks on camera, the results are embarrassing.

(Spoilers ahead in this paragraph only.) The most despicable example of the film's "consequences don't matter" mantra is a scene in which E, despondent after sleeping with two women in one day and discovering that one is pregnant and the other passed him an STD, discovers that the girls actually know each other and made up the stories to try to teach him a lesson. Does he learn that lesson? Who cares! She's not pregnant, and he doesn't have an STD! Game on, bros!

But despite all of the awfulness at this film's core, as someone who watched every episode of the show, I can't deny that I felt the tiniest twinge of satisfaction at seeing these characters interact with each other again. It's the earnestness that did it, I think, even though these guys are being earnest about the worst things. There's one scene in which Vince gives a rousing speech to his crew about how they should be able to screw any woman they want — it's a pigheaded, completely wrong notion, but delivered in such a way that almost (almost) makes me respect how brazenly Ellin just doesn't give a sh*t about having his characters operate in our current culture. This is a fantasy world, pure and simple, and these guys don't ever have to worry about anything.

Like we often saw in the show, there is a cavalcade of cameos in the film, some of whom obviously play larger roles than others (the largest being model Emily Ratajkowski, who plays Vince's latest sexual conquest). The best thing about Entourage is its opening credits sequence, a slick update on the show's concept of whipping around Los Angeles and incorporating names onto recognizable landmarks. But it's sad when the funniest thing about this whole movie (which is supposedly a comedy) was seeing the words "and Jeremy Piven" pop up and laughing about a joke from Arrested Development's fourth season.

Pixar Releases First Teaser Trailer for THE GOOD DINOSAUR

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Pixar's The Good Dinosaur. The animation studio has a solid track record of telling great stories, and hopefully this one is no exception. The trailer doesn't give much info in terms of story, but it gives us a look at the beautiful style and tone of the movie.

The story is set in an alternate reality where an asteroid never destroyed the dinosaurs, and it follows an Apatosaurus named Arlo who becomes friends with human cavemen. Here's the synopsis:

The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.

During CinemaCon, Disney CCO John Lasseter talked a little big about the film saying:

“This is a boy and a dog story, but the roles are reversed. Arlo, the dinosaur, is the boy in the story and Spot is the dog.
“It’s unlike anything we’ve had before. The level of believability we’re striving for in this film is going to be breathtaking.”

The movie features the voices of Lucas Neff, Neil Patrick Harris, Frances McDormand, Bill Hader, Judy Greer, and John LithgowThe Good Dinosaur opens in theaters on November 25th.

THE DARK TOWER Film May Have Finally Found Its Director

An adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower has been in the works for years. Originally set up at Universal and then Warner Bros. as an ambitious plan for a trilogy of films with seasons of a TV show in between, the project was cancelled and then resurrected by Sony and Media Rights Capital about a month ago. Now Deadline reports that the studio has found its director: Nikolaj Arcel, the man who co-wrote the original The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and directed the Best Foreign Film Oscar nominee A Royal Affair.

Arcel certainly doesn't have the A-list status of someone like Ron Howard (who was initially going to direct), but this might be what the project needs to finally get off the ground: a younger, hungrier director who absolutely loves King's novels. The Danish director reportedly learned to read and write in English specifically so he could read this series in King's native language, and his huge fandom of the books apparently impressed the studio. The report says that talks will begin shortly to have Arcel rewrite the script and direct.

The plan is still in place for this to be the first of at least a few films, and the TV series is still being developed as a complimentary piece of entertainment to air in between entries. I imagine we'll start hearing about casting soon, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

MUDBLOODS — Harry Potter-Inspired Doc Focuses on The Real Sport of Quidditch

If you’re a fan of Harry Potter and the sport of Quidditch that was created for the magical world of Potter, then you have to check out this trailer for a documentary called Mudbloods. It focuses on the real life sport of Quidditch and the people who play it. This is a fascinating doc that I know a lot of you will enjoy watching and appreciate.

The film will be screening this June at the FilmQuest Film Festival, and you can check out the screening schedule here if you’re interested. You can also watch it on iTunes. I’ve included the synopsis below, which offers some additional details on the film:

Transforming Harry Potter’s fictional competition into a physically demanding, real-life sport, quidditch has secured its place as one of the fastest growing collegiate club sports today. MUDBLOODS follows the resilient underdogs of the UCLA Quidditch team as they make their way to the Fifth Annual Quidditch World Cup in New York City. Through nail biting victories and losses, the dreamers, creators and athletes who make up this exceptional community come together to make this magical sport into something you could’ve never imagined, until now.

I’ve also included an interview we conducted with the director of the film, Farzad Sangari, below the trailer. In it, he talks about what inspired him to make the movie, where the sport of Quidditich currently stands, the culture of the sport, what he hopes audiences will take away from it, and more. But first, here's the trailer:

What inspired you to make a documentary focused on the real version of the sport of Quidditch?

"There’s a lot of reasons. I think the main reason was the people. When I first met Tom and the team, I made a little short film about them, like a 10 minute thing. I was also doing other things, but I came back to this as a larger documentary project because once I made that short film, I had gotten to know the type of people who do this and I think it’s just an interesting mix of people who are self aware, confident, athletic, and kind of nerdy. It’s just this unique blend that I hadn’t seen before, specifically in sports. I grew up playing a lot of sports as a kid and to see something that crossed a lot of these barriers for me, as a filmmaker, was very intriguing."

Why did you choose to follow the UCLA Bruins Quidditch team?

"A lot of people on the filmmaking team, including me, went to UCLA. The first time I saw UCLA’s Quidditch team was at UCLA.
"That connection assisted in creating an immediate bond and helped us get to know each other initially; however, it’s not why I choose to follow them. I choose to follow their story because I found the individual members of the team to be smart, charming, funny, very creative and extremely self-aware. They’re also great athletes. Ultimately, they are all wonderful characters in the midst of an exciting journey that I was just lucky enough to stumble upon."

What challenges did you face while you were developing this film?

"It was a challenge showing the line between Quidditch being a fun sport and a competitive sport. I think the harder thing is to show people, yeah, it comes from this thing, so you might have these perceptions. And it is a very fun thing, it is a very open thing. But it’s also a sport. And that’s the line that was really hard to navigate as a filmmaker. But I think by the time you get to the tournament, and you see all those teams come into the stadium and then you see the games, hopefully we’ve taken people through that process in the film."

While you were capturing the culture of this sport, what was the strongest aspect of that culture that stuck out to you?

"The Quidditch community is very inviting and imaginative. I think those are the words that really capture them. They’re very open. They’re very nice. Because they are doing this idiosyncratic thing, there’s this sense of community not only amongst the team but among all the teams. But they’re also really creative with taking this thing that is impossible to do in real life and figuring out a way to do it. Not only figuring out how to play the sport but creating tournaments around it, creating an infrastructure where there’s an organization around it and to create something that has enough of a draw that they have fans now, and it’s growing not only across the nation but into other countries."

Would you like to see Quidditch find its way into the main stream, or do you think that would ruin the uniqueness of the sport?

"It is already trending mainstream. Since last year, or just recently, they split up the IQA [International Quidditch Association], which is what Alex Benepe was running, into a thing called US Quidditch and then other countries now, I think seven or eight countries, have their own Quidditch associations, as well. So it’s not just this one banner with all these other countries. US Quidditch is sort of the main one, with the national universities and high schools, and these other countries are trying to emulate that model. So it’s been growing, not only on a national level but it’s getting bigger on an international scale."

Are there any fun behind the scenes stories that you would like to share?

"One of the first things I did even before I started filming them was play with them. And because I was super embarrassed and I didn’t want to do it by myself, I made my friend come. He plays basketball all the time, and he’s super athletic, but he couldn’t even play two games. He had to sit out after the first. He was, like, 'Dude, I can’t even go.' The first time I played it was when I realized, 'Wow, not only is it hard on a physical level, but there’s so many things happening at once that it’s really dynamic.' Your brain and your body have to be working really fast."

After all the time you spent making this film and following these players around, what was one of the most valuable life lessons that you learned from it?

"I think what I took away from it is that I was really impressed by the people that I met and inspired by their imagination and creativity and their confidence. I hope people take away that same thing when they see these people and I also hope they take away that these people took this impossible idea and made it a reality. I think that takes a lot of determination and, as I said, imagination. So I guess in very simple terms, how far can you take an idea? How far can your imagination or a willingness to create something take you? And I think they’re excellent examples of that."

I have a solid, well-made sci-fi short for you to watch today called The Last Human in the Milky Way. It was directed by Benjamin Combes, and it tells a simple story that focuses on an astronaut and his android who talk about the place of the human race in the universe. There are also a couple twists in the story that keep things interesting.

The short had no budget, and it was shot with a crew of two people over the course of two days. I think it turned out pretty damn good under the circumstances. I hope you like it.

Sony Has Reportedly Narrowed Down The List of SPIDER-MAN Directors To These Names

$

As Sony and Marvel try to make the tough decision about who will portray Spider-Man on the big screen for the next few years, the upcoming solo film also needs a director. We had an update on this about three weeks ago, but now some new information has come to light and the studio is closer than ever to making its final decision.

Deadline reports that Ted Melfi (St. Vincent) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) are the favorites, while the duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Vacation) are still in contention and Cop Car director Jon Watts has also entered the fray as a late addition.

Worth noting: the report says that whoever is hired will "steer a multi-picture arc that takes the protagonist through high school." It's unclear whether that's just Deadline's attempt at describing the franchise in vague terms (we've known this will follow a younger Spidey for a while now), or if they actually mean that this director is being brought on for multiple sequels. From a studio perspective, that could be tricky: on paper, it'd be great to bring someone in for multiple movies up front, but if the first one doesn't do the numbers they're hoping for, someone will need to take the blame for it, and for better or worse that will likely be the director.

With a release date already scheduled for July 28th, 2017, the studio needs to make a decision on this fairly soon, so we'll update you when the final director is chosen.

Magic Mike XXL comes out in just under a month, and writer/producer/star Channing Tatum has drummed up a little bit of publicity for the film by going undercover at a prank screening of the film. In this video, you can see him dress as an old man and ask audience members questions about the movie, announce that they're about to get a "3D experience," and then surprise them by busting out some dance moves right there in the theater.

The video was made as a part of Tatum's partnership with Omaze, the organization that auctions off chances to win amazing experiences like hanging out with Robert Downey Jr. at a premiere or blowing sh*t up with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tatum is offering the chance to hang out with him on the red carpet at the Magic Mike XXL premiere accompany him to the after-party, and the money goes toward helping a charity called The Runa Foundation. Another trailer for Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Knight has been released, and this one shows fan favorite character Harley Quinn kicking some major ass. For those of you who pre-order the game, you'll also get a Harley Quinn story mission DLC. I haven't pre-ordered a video game in years, but I might just have to do it for this one. After all, Harley Quinn is one of my favorite characters in the DC universe, and it looks like it will be fun to play with her. The game is set to be released on June 23rd, 2015.

Disney Announces PLAYMATION, Where Kids Are Turned into Action Figures

Holy crap! Being a kid just got a hell of a lot more awesome! Disney has announced the future the future of play with Playmation. The groundbreaking evolution of toys features wearables that use smart technology "to inspire kids to run around and use their imaginations, as they become the hero or heroine of stories from across The Walt Disney Company." The kids basically become the action figure. It's like Laser Tag, but on steroids. Make sure to watch the trailer below promoting the greatness of the toy.

Leslie Ferraro, president of Disney Consumer Products, says:

“Innovation and creativity are the driving forces behind Disney, and our goal is to inspire children to unleash the power of their imaginations through the stories we tell and the experiences we create. With Playmation, we’re taking the next step in that tradition – bringing the worlds of play, storytelling, and technology together – in a new and very exciting way. Playmation takes the best the digital world has to offer and uses it to create supercharged, real world play. This is play updated for today’s kids – bringing their imaginations to life as they go on active adventures alongside their favorite characters.”

I know Playmation is being targeted to kids, but damn, I think I'm going to have to jump into action with my kids when it's released. It will hit stores in October, with pre-orders starting on July 7th. The first Playmation set will be Avengers-themed and it will include a wrist-worn Iron Man Repulsor, Captain America and Red Skull figures, and a pair of Power Activator stands that help bring those tiny characters to life. It will cost you $120.

Kids and adults will play out imaginary missions in real life. Through the voice of JARVIS, Tony Stark’s artificially intelligent assistant, they will be instructed to run, jump, duck, dodge, or other physical actions that can be detected by the Repulsor motion detector. Kids can team up on these missions or they can face off with each other.

Star Wars and Frozen-themed Playmation sets are currently in development, and will be available in 2016 and 2017. Below the the promo video, you'll find lots of other details about Playmation from the press release that Disney sent out.

Dreamed up by a team of technologists, Imagineers and storytellers from across The Walt Disney Company, Playmation is the culmination of extensive research into the world of play. A new third party study commissioned by Disney reveals that parents feel nostalgia for the way they used to play growing up and that they also have a desire to keep their kids active. The study also found that children enjoy being active—yet at the same time, they have a growing appetite for technology-infused products.
The online study of 2,000 families across the country shows that while almost all parents believe in the power of active and creative play, they believe technology is also an important part of growing up today. In fact, 9 out of 10 parents are open to new technology that could play a role in keeping their child active.
“The study highlights a major opportunity to meet the needs of both parents and kids with a new way to play,” said Kareem Daniel, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development. “Playmation uses technology to make active, physical play even more fun. It puts kids at the center of our stories in a way we’ve never been able to before.”
Playmation also marks a new chapter in Disney Consumer Products’ long-term partnership with Hasbro. DCP and Hasbro collaborated on physical product design and manufacturing of Playmation. Hasbro’s record of innovation and consumer insights make them the perfect partner to ensure that Playmation is a truly ground-breaking play experience.
“This is classic play for the millennial generation,” said Jim Silver, editor in chief and CEO of TTPM. “Playmation takes the role play category to a new level of engagement with their breakthrough interactive play. It is the entry point into a new category of toys that bring digital experiences into the real world. With Playmation, Disney Consumer Products is going to raise the bar in the world of play.”
Playmation Marvel’s Avengers is the first in a series of systems in development around Walt Disney Company franchises, and will hit shelves this October. At launch, the Playmation Marvel’s Avengers Starter Pack will include five connected toys: one piece of Avenger Gear (Repulsor), two Power Activators and two Smart Figures – a Super Hero (Captain America) and a Super Villain (Iron Skull). Getting started is easy, strap the high-tech Repulsor Gear onto your arm (it fits adults, too!) and listen closely to JARVIS as he takes you through the tutorial on how to control your new Gear, inspired by Iron Man technology. Other Playmation Marvel’s Avengers connected toys that work with the Starter Pack will also be available separately for purchase at launch, with more on the way.
Also available at launch, is the AvengersNet app where you can register your Avenger Gear to see progress, explore additional locations and characters, and get access to new missions. New recruits to the Avengers can fight Marvel Super Villains including Ultron, Iron Skull, Loki, or join fellow Avengers Super Heroes like Black Widow, Falcon and more as they battle to save the Earth by running, jumping, ducking and dodging – whatever each challenge requires.
“With Playmation Marvel’s Avengers, the very best of Marvel storytelling is infused into every aspect of the system to further spark imaginative, active play,” said Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer, Marvel. “Playmation offers kids a dynamic way to interact with their favorite Super Heroes – I wish it was around when I was a kid!”
Playmation Marvel’s Avengers uses familiar technologies including smart toys, wearables, wireless technology, motion sensors and more, but applies them in ways that are completely new to create an experience that’s never been possible before. The Repulsor Gear connects with the Power Activators and Smart Figures to take you on a variety of adventures through locations around the Marvel Universe, from the Avengers Lab in New York to the jungles of Wakanda. Playmation is purposely not tethered to an Internet connection so players can run around and explore each adventure from anywhere they want – a bedroom, living room or yard. With multiplayer modes, recruits can sync their Avenger Gear to tackle missions and combat arenas together, or face off in competitive play.
The Playmation Marvel’s Avengers Starter Pack will have a suggested retail price of $119.99 and will launch in October 2015 in the United States and Canada at mass and specialty retailers, select Disney Store locations and DisneyStore.com, and will be available for pre-order starting July 7.
Star Wars and Disney Frozen systems are currently in development for 2016 and 2017, respectively. Each will use a range of technologies to create a system based on the different ways that kids play and experience their favorite stories and characters from that franchise.

After weeks of rumors, Warner Bros. has made it official: Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will topline the studio's Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Author J.K. Rowling is making her screenwriting debut with the film, which follows the character of Newt Scamander (Redmayne), the world's preeminent magizoologist and author of a book about the creatures of the wizarding world that eventually becomes required reading for Harry Potter and his friends at Hogwarts. This story takes place 70 years before Harry's begins, and is set in New York City. David Yates, who helmed the last four Potter movies, is returning to direct, and the latest casting rumors indicate that people like Kate Upton and Dakota Fanning are up for supporting roles.

Yates had this to say about Redmayne's casting:

“Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit and humanity. I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of working with him as we start this new adventure in J.K. Rowling’s wonderful world, and I know she feels the same way.”

I don't know much about Newt Scamander, but Redmayne is unquestionably a talented actor and I'm sure diehard Potter fans will be thrilled to return to the wizarding world when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens on November 18th, 2016.

It's one of Jurassic Park's most iconic moments: Lex, Tim, and that scummy lawyer are in a Jeep outside the T-rex paddock, it's dark, it's raining, and suddenly...a low rumble. Then another. Tim looks down, and notices a couple glasses of water sitting on the dashboard, with the water rippling out from the center. Steven Spielberg is a master of building tension visually, but how did he and his team accomplish that particular shot? They obviously didn't have a full size T-rex stomping around, so what did they use to achieve that specific ripple? Find out — along with a handful of other cool Jurassic Park-related facts — in Cinefix's latest video below:
