Studios Hoping to Make FATHER OF THE BRIDE 3 with Steve Martin

According to Nikki Finke, Disney and Warner Bros. are sorting out the rights to get a third Father of the Bride movie off the ground. They are looking to bring on Charles Shyer to write and direct the film, and they are hoping Steve Martin will return to reprise his role.

The story will follow the Martin's on screen son Matty, who is now 29 years old. The twist in the movie is that Matty is gay and will be marrying a Navy SEAL's son. The report goes on to explain:

"Father of the bride George is 'thunderstruck and speechless' and has problems with the whole gay thing. So wife Nina kicks him out of the house."

Apparently Disney loved the pitch, and the source went on to tell Finke,

"it’s a timely idea, I told Charles I just hope it goes forward before gay stops trending…"

They better get things moving, because Martin responded to the report on Twitter:

The Father of the Bride movies have always been funny and heartfelt, and I imagine that if it happens this sequel will stay in line with that.

Crazy STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Spoiler Story Rumors!

Some really big and insane Star Wars: Episode VII story rumors have hit the internet. They could be true or they could be completely false. Either way, this article is coming along with a huge SPOILER ALERT, because there's a chance that what you are about to read could be the real deal.

We really know nothing about the plot of this movie. There's been a lot of speculation about who the new characters are, but director J.J. Abrams has been able to keep things on the down-low for some time. That might have all changed. It's crazy how much stuff has been leaking from the set of this film, such as all of the photos, so it wouldn't be surprising if some story info leaked out as well.

The following news comes from Making of Star Wars, and they got their information from several sources working on the Pinewood Studios lot where the film is being shot. The site does make a point of saying that none of the people they talked too have read the script, this is just information that is being spread around the studio lot. Now before you dismiss the following intel, I used to work on a big studio lot, and this type of thing happens all the time. I will say that all of the rumors I heard about certain films while working at that studio turned out to be true.

Now on with the juicy SPOILER filled information!

This is your last chance to turn back.

Ok then… here we go:

"The bad guys in Star Wars: Episode VII are being called 'Jedi Hunters' by people working on and around the film. These are scary individuals, dressed in black, some helmeted, that hunt Jedi for the Empire."

When describing the villains, the report says they are "said to be characterized by black and chrome with troopers in similar black and chrome uniforms. They’re very imperial, but very new."

The article goes on to reveal that these Jedi Hunters have been around for a long time fighting the Jedi and that their job was to protect the Sith at all costs to ensure their survival. They are the reason there is no New Republic after Return of the Jedi. They have been out trying to stop the growth of the Jedi.

Apparently Luke Skywalker has been fighting to stop this resurrection from happening for the last thirty years of his life, but he's "outnumbered, tired, and in need of help."

One of the sources on the set then claims to have watched a scene being shot in which the Jedi Hunters are worshiping the Sith and want to resurrect them. Regardless of all of the work that Skywalker is doing to keep this from happening, he can't stop it. According to the site, the resurrection of the Sith will take place in Episode VIII and then the Jedi kill the resurrected Sith in Episode IX.

That's a basic rundown of the possible plot of the story, but you can read read more details and speculation on it over at the site it originated from. There are a few holes that need to be filled in the story that aren't answered here, but I'm sure that will all come in time. If this is true, I'm completely on board with where Abrams is taking the universe.

The Wonder Years series is finally coming to DVD and StarVista Entertainment and Time Life have revealed the creative packaging for the 26-disc set! This is just one of several different ways that the series will be released.

This is one of my favorite TV series of all time, and I'm so happy that I'll actually be able to finally own it. I never thought it would happen. The show was created by Neal Marlens and Carol Black and it had a great cast, which included Fred Savage, Danica McKellar, Jason Hervey, and many more. If you haven't watched this series in awhile you might be surprised by some of the other actors that showed up in this show before they became big stars.

Here are some details of some of the other things that will be included with the set:

StarVista Entertainment/Time Life has unveiled packaging details of the 26-disc set will be housed in a limited-edition metal locker - just like those featured at Kennedy Junior High School -- complete with colorful Wonder Years magnets to custom-design each locker. Inside will be two notebooks like those carried by Kevin and Winnie, each featuring detailed episode information and production photos. There will also be a replica yearbook embellished with signatures from cast members, behind-the-scenes photos and classic show memorabilia. Finally, liner notes from Fred Savage, series creators Neal Marlens and Carol Black and executive producer Bob Brush completes this impressive, unique set, certain to be a fixture in the homes of many a fan.

For those of you looking for additional information and updates you can also visit WonderYearsDVDs.com, the official site for all updates, exclusive content and pre-orders. The series is supposed to be released sometime in the third quarter of this year.

Poster for the Quidditch Documentary MUDBLOODS

Forget the World Cup, Quidditch is where the fun is at! There's a new documentary coming out this fall called Mudbloods, which follows the UCLA Quidditch team on their journey to the Fifth Annual Quidditch World Cup in New York City. Yes… in case you didn't know, Quidditch, the sport from Harry Potter, is a real thing. Unfortunately, real flying broomsticks haven't been introduced to the real world sport yet.

The Muggle version of Quidditch involves plain, non-flying brooms and the Snitch is a guy dressed in a yellow outfit running erratically around the field. I've actually never seen a real live Quidditch game, but I'm looking forward to the day when it blows up as a massively popular sport that everyone watches.

A poster for the doc has been released that you can check out above. It was directed by Farzad Sangari, and here's a synopsis:

Mudbloods follows the UCLA quidditch team on their journey to the 5th Annual Quidditch World Cup in New York City in 2011. The film is a culmination of 2 years spent documenting the fearless, bold individuals who dedicate their lives to the sport of quidditch, including the entrepreneurial force behind the International Quidditch Association (IQA), the primary governing body of this fledgling sport.

It’s a sports doc unlike anything you’ve ever seen because it’s a sport you could have never imagined, until now.

Entertainment Earth has revealed five radical action figures that are inspired by some of the classic characters that we've seen in the classic 1960s TV series The Twilight Zone. These are exclusive action figures that were created in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con, which is set to take place this coming July. The figures include the Gremlin; William Shatner's Bob Wilson; Invader; the alien Kanamit; Henry Bemis, and Talking Tina. The Twilight Zone is my favorite series of all time, and I want these!

The toys will be available at the Entertainment Earth booth #2343. I've included the descriptions that came along with each of the figures.

Bif Bang Pow! presents The Twilight Zone Gremlin 3 3/4-Inch Action Figure in Color, the horrifying creature from the memorable The Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" that starred William Shatner. Limited edition color version 3 3/4-inch scale action figure of Bob Wilson from the memorable The Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" that starred William Shatner. The Powerpuff Girls is one of the few shows that I genuinely enjoyed watching with my little girls. That show was just pure entertainment. I'm happy to report that they will be returning to Cartoon Network with a new animated series in 2016. My kids are going to be so happy when they hear this news! I'm looking forward to seeing what new adventures lie in store for these amazingly awesome characters.

Chief content officer, Rob Sorcher, had this to say:

“We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice, and Chemical X.”

Pete Yoder, vice president of consumer products for North America, Cartoon Network Enterprises added:

“As the original ambassador of ‘girl power,’ The Powerpuff Girls brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to a new generation. With proven success and great content plans in place, there’s so much potential that we’re looking forward to explore with our licensing partners in the coming weeks.”

The cartoon first premiered in 1998 and was created by Craig McCracken. It will be fun to watch this show with the kids.

Here's a short video that features Darth Vader's classic Star Wars line to Luke Skywalker "No, I am your father," in twenty different languages. What makes this video unique is the fact that they're all the actual voice-overs from the international releases of the film. I've only watched the video three times, and I'm already fluent in twenty languages! By the way, I used "Luke" in the title so more people would get the reference.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 - New Full, Action-Packed Trailer

Despite the recent news that The Expendables 3 will have a PG-13 rating, this latest trailer still makes the movie look like it's going to be a ton of fun. Of course, I'm one of those people that enjoys over-the-top ridiculous action movies like this. Sometimes you just have to turn your brain off and enjoy the ride.

I still can't believe the actors they've been able to pull into this franchise over the years. This final film includes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell, and Kelsey Grammer. The fact that they got Ford and Gibson involved is pretty damn awesome. Here's the synopsis:

"Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet."

The movie hits theaters on August 15th.

Steven Spielberg Officially Chooses His Next 2 Film Projects

Director Steven Spielberg has been circling several film projects over the last few months, and it looks like he's picked the next two projects he's bringing to life. Both of these movies have already been given release dates.

The first is an untitled Cold War spy thriller with Tom Hanks, which will be released in theaters on October 17th, 2015. The movie is being written by the Coen Brothers, and it will will tell the true story of James Donovan, "a prominent American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to slip behind the Iron Curtain to negotiate the release of a pilot captured when his U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russia."

The second movie Spielberg is doing is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1982 book The BFG. That one is set to open on July 1st, 2016, and it's being written by E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison. The story follows a Big Friendly Giant who befriends a young orphan girl.

Spielberg hasn't directed a film since Lincoln in 2012, and these are both solid projects that I was hoping he'd take on.

JURASSIC PARK Before and After Visual Effects Shots

Jurassic-Park-4-cast.jpg

It still amazes me how well the VFX in Jurassic Park holds up after all these years. Industrial Light and Magic is the team that amazingly brought the dinosaurs to life on the big screen. We have a fascinating featurette that you need to watch that focuses on bringing the live-action elements together with the VFX elements. It's really cool to get a before and after look at all the movie magic that had to happen to bring this classic film to life for us.

Here's a little trivia that gives some backstory on what Steven Spielberg needed to do to make this movie work.

Steven Spielberg didn’t want people to be constantly reminded that what they’re seeing is CGI, but real, full-blooded dinosaurs, starting with the Brachiosaur scene, where Spielberg was keen on the dinosaur interacting with the background, and would offer suggestions to the animators on how to make it better. The second scene done in that same vein was the Gallimimus scene, which made use of 25 animated individual Gallimimuses. Geometric shapes represented them initially and were choreographed onto the scene. Spielberg needed complete freedom to convey the energy of the scene, so worked with Dennis Muren to shoot it, because he wanted to move the camera and not lock it down everytime a Gallimimus came into frame. The scene was shot gradually with Sam Neill, Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards running through a field by themselves. A grid was placed over the ground as a frame to chart the movement of the camera by computer, using what looked like golf balls whenever an actor looked somewhere. The dinosaurs were than added later.

The T-Rex chasing the Jeep was the most difficult scene to animate. Steve ‘Spaz’ Williams had to do research because there’s no frame of reference for a running animal of that size; it took two months to figure out how to get it to run, for instance. He would run the sequence backwards to see all the mistakes. They were also able to use the computer to add little details to authenticate the scene, e.g. the T-Rex running through puddles of water and leaving splashes, etc. The splashing was filmed individually and then the computer added it to the T-Rex’s footsteps.

I hope you like this! Thanks to /Film for the tip!

RESIDENT EVIL 6 Will Be the Last — Tentative Title Revealed

resident-evil-6-will-be-the-last-and-tentative-title-revealed

Don't act so surprised that Paul W.S. Anderson is making a sixth Resident Evil movie. Of course he's going to make another one! He's been talking about doing it since last year. At one point the movie had a release date of September of this year, but that's obviously not happening now as the film hasn't even started shooting yet. As of this moment there is no shooting date, release date, or plot information.

What we do have is a tentative title for the film, thanks to Collider. That title is Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. That's right folks, this is the last Resident Evil movie that will close out the franchise… until the studio decides to reboot it. Anderson is currently writing the script for the film, and this is what he had to say about it:

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title.  It may end up being the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script… I’m right in the middle of [the first draft].”

This is what he had to say about the shooting date:

“There are no set dates for shooting yet.  I think we’re waiting until we have a first draft screenplay and then go from there.”

Then there's the release date:

“I don’t know [when it will be in theaters], depends how fast I write, I guess.  There’s no set date yet but hopefully we’ll have an announcement for that soon.”

He didn't dish out any information on story details, but he did talk about how he's already thinking about implementing 3D elements into the script he's writing.

“I firmly believe that you have to start thinking about the 3D even in the writing process.  You cannot make a great 3D movie by just—it’s not some special sauce that you can sprinkle on.  You make the dish and then you make hot sauce on top—it doesn’t work well like that.  Yes, you can do a last minute conversion.  You can not shoot the movie thinking about 3D and do a last minute conversion and it can be a 3D movie, it’s just not gonna be a great 3D movie.  I approach my films right from the inception, I kind of write action scenes and pick out locations that I think and know—because I’ve done so much of it—will translate very well into 3D.  Then when we build the sets, we build sets that I know will shoot well in 3D.  It’s really, even from this point, 3D is something I’m definitely thinking about.”

I have to say I completely disagree with him on that. Writing a movie around the use of 3D is ridiculous to me. The most important aspect of the script is the story, and 3D really has nothing to do with the story. It's a gimmick to help the studio make more money. On top of that I think Anderson makes the worst use of 3D in any of the 3D films being made.

I actually enjoyed the first couple Resident Evil movies. It wasn't until Anderson started with the 3D that they really started going downhill. I won't be expecting much from Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but I'll see it regardless in hopes of being somewhat entertained.

Milla Jovovich is sure to reprise her role, though, so the movie has that going for it.

Amazing EDGE OF TOMORROW Concept Art

If you haven't seen Edge of Tomorrow you need to see it! This is easily one of the most entertaining movies of the year. It has everything that we love about the movies, action, comedy, drama, adventure, and badassery. Doug Liman did an amazing job directing this movie, and Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt were freakin' awesome! I actually liked it more than X-Men: Days of Future Past

A set of incredible concept art that was created for the movie has surfaced online, and all of this stuff is stunningly beautiful. The illustrations come from artist Kevin Jenkins who said:

"I was brought on by Warners Bros at the very early stages of the production. Initially working with Doug and then Oliver when he joined. I led the team that helped concept develop the exosuit which took about six months of work, some of the images had all of the team participating under me due to time constraints . Special mention to Chris and Sam who collaborated on some of the models. As the suit went into production I then worked with Nick Davis and the VFX crews for nearly a year to work on all things Mimics. Thanks to Ivan who developed some incredible clay sculpts."

You can check out some more of the concept art that helped bring this movie to life on the big screen below. Thanks to io9 for the heads up on these!

Illustrator Juan Hugo Martinez recent revealed this fantastic piece of art he did featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Last week a rumor hit that Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy were up for the part. A lot of fans including myself seemed to like the idea of Cumberbatch as Strange. As a long time fan of this character, I think the actor could easily pull it off and give fans something awesome. As of right now, no actor is officially signed on with Marvel, but seeing this portrait gets me even more hopeful to see Cumberbatch in the role of the Sorcerer Supreme.

10 Comic Book Characters That Were Created Outside of Comics

$
0
0

A ton of awesome comic book characters have been introduced to us over the years, but not all of these characters were created for the comics. There are a handful of them that were created for other media before they found their way into the comic universes of Marvel and DC. Here is a list of ten comic characters that you may or may not know originated outside of the comics.

Harley Quinn

[Television] Batman: The Animated Series

That's right folks, everyone's favorite sadistic Joker sidekick wasn't introduced into Batman's Rogues Gallery until Batman: The Animated Series. She was an instant classic! The first comic she appeared in was The Batman Adventures #12 in September of 1993. Over the years she has had her own series and also teamed up with Poison Ivy and Catwoman several times to beat down on Batman. She is my favorite female villain of all time.

Agent Coulson

[Movie] Iron Man

Agent Coulson was introduced into the Marvel cinematic universe in Iron Man. Before that he didn't exist. He has since become the face of S.H.I.E.L.D., not only in the movies and TV, but in the comic books. His first appearance in the Marvel Comics universe was in the mini-series "Battle Scars."

Firestar

[Television] Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends

This character was introduced in the classic 1981 animated series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. I believe the cartoon reruns on Disney XD. In the show Spider-Man teamed up with a new character named Firestar, a.k.a.Angelica Jones. The character became popular enough for Marvel to bring her into their comic world. She was introduced to the comic universe in 1985's Uncanny X-Men #193. She went on to get her own miniseries and ended up being an original member of the New Warriors.

X-23

[Television] X-Men Evolution

X-23 was born from the series X-Men: Evolution and was created by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. She has since become one of Marvel's most badass female characters. She is the young female equivalent to Wolverine and quickly became part of the comic books in 2004 in NYX. She was one of several wayward, homeless mutants. She ended up getting her own solo ongoing series, joined the X-Men and X-Force, and is also a big part of the Avengers Arena cast.

Terry McGinnis

[Television] Batman Beyond

Most of the characters on this list have been side/secondary characters or villains. Batman Beyond's Terry McGinnis is a main character in the universe. The incredible Batman Beyond series a followed a teenager who takes on the role of Batman in the not too distant future under the tutelage of an elderly Bruce Wayne. His first appearance in the mainstream comic books was in Batman #700 in June 2010.

Jimmy Olsen

[Radio] Superman

Jimmy Olsen, who is a huge part of the Superman mythos, was never a part of the comics until after he first showed up on a 1940s radio show program called The Adventures of Superman. A year after he was on the show he was brought into the DC universe. There was an unnamed "office boy" who made a brief appearance in Action Comic #6, which some people claim was Olsen, but Jimmy's name wasn't actually used in the comics until 1941 in Superman v1 #13.

Green Hornet

[Radio] The Green Hornet

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 7.22.17 PM.png

I know a lot of people thought that The Green Hornet was a comic book before it was made into a TV show and eventual movie. That is actually true! What many people don't know is that, like Jimmy Olsen, The Green Hornet's introduction came in the form of a radio series on a local Detroit station in January of 1936. The first comic book was published in 1940.

Bebop & Rocksteady

[Television] Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

These two knuckleheads didn't make it into the Ninja Turtles comics until after they were introduced as Shredder's henchmen in the classic 1987 cartoon. Their names come from genres of music: bebop is a style of jazz, while rocksteady is a Jamaican music style. They also appeared in in the Archie TMNT Adventures comics.

Chloe Sullivan

[Television] Smallville

This adorably quirky character was specifically created for the amazing TV series Smallville. She was basically a high school equivalent of Lois Lane, and fans of the show loved her. She was then introduced in the bi-monthly Smallville comic book series, and in Novemeber 2010 was given an introduction to the official DC comics universe when she appeared outside of the Smallville universe. Her first non-Smallville comic was "Jimmy Olsen's Big Week," which was a serialized Jimmy Olsen story in Action Comics #893

Renee Montoya

[Television] Batman: The Animated Series

Another character that was created for the classic '90s Batman series was Detective Renee Montoya. She was assigned to Gotham's Major Crime Unit and partnered up with Harvey Bullock every now and then to fight crime. She was imported into the comic series in 1992, the same year that the animated series debuted. She was also a recurring character in the third season of the animated web-series Gotham Girls. She became a recurring character in the Batman comics after Batman #475

Batman's Batmobile has gone threw a ton of different designs over the years, and most of them have been really cool. There have been a couple of new Batmobile designs recently. One is in the video game Batman: Arkham Knight, and there is another new Batmobile in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. An artist that goes by the name of DKNG has created a very cool art series featuring three of the iconic designs of the Dark Knight's ride. They are a part of a solo art show called ICON currently going on at Gallery 1988. If you would like to purchase any of these as prints, just click here.

Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke Joins VOICE FROM THE STONE

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has landed another feature film movie role. Her first big screen introduction is a big one with Terminator: Genesis, in which she plays Sarah Conor. Her second movie will be a psychological thriller called Voice from the Stone.

The story is set in 1950′s Tuscany, Italy, and Clarke is taking on the role of a nurse who is "aiding a boy through the trauma of his mother’s sudden death. As she works with the troubled child, she becomes ensnared by a malevolent force inside the family’s castle." I hope the movie has that classic Italian horror movie feel to it, because those films are crazy as hell.

I'm one of those moviegoers that gets excited about movies like this. I have a blast watching films that screw with my head. I hope this project is able to pull off the insanity and freak me out. Clarke is also a wonderful actress who is sure to give a solid performance.

The independently financed film is an adaptation of an Italian novel called “La voce della Pietra” by Silvio Raffo.  The film is being directed by Eric D. Howell from a script written by Andrew Shaw.

Artist Imagines Superheroes as Pin-up Artists

You may have noticed that some of the GeekTyrant editors are really into pin-up art, especially geek heroines redrawn as pin-up models. There is actually a lot of behind the scenes debate at GeekTyrant about what is appropriate and what crosses the line into gross/offensive. Obviously, superheroines are sexy and powerful, and artists like to have fun with that. In this piece, artist Stephen Byrne takes a shot at the sometimes ridiculously over the top sexualization of female superheroes, wondering what it would look like “If Male Superheroes Were Treated Equally by Pin-up Artists.” He posted it to his Facebook page with a note:

I fear I may have gone too far this time.

I’m sure this is something we’d all like to see more of, right? Clearly the boys have gotten into the Benetint. We’ve posted some of Byrnes’ more G-rated work for you to check out before.

We've got an extended TV spot for you to watch for director Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. This sequel is going to be really intense, some of the convention footage that I've seen that hasn't been released in any trailers or clips yet is simply bone-chilling. I'm not sure if any of that will be released in the marketing for the movie, but if you thought the first film was good, then you'll definitely want to check this one out! The movie is set to be released on July 11th!
