Deleted Scenes and Rejected Concepts from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

We have a very intriguing video for you to watch that breaks down all of the deleted scenes and rejected concepts that we know of that didn’t make it into J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens. The video comes from Mr. Sunday Movies, and it’s one of his most interesting yet. If you are a fan of the Star Wars franchise, then this is a video you’ve gotta check out! The creator offers up some comments that lead into his video.

“The deleted scenes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens extend beyond what was left on the cutting room floor and go back as far as 2012 when the filmmaking process began. That means there’s a whole lot of unused concept art, two scrapped versions including one by George Lucas and of course what was filmed but didn’t make it into the final film (spoilers).
“With Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm towards the end of 2012 a number of artists were given the go ahead to create a set of guided imagery that served to get the creative juices flowing. Many of these images can be found in the hard cover book, The Art Of Star Wars The Force Awakens and include a proto Finn and Rey, the first lightsabers and a pony tailed Luke Skywalker looking trapped and forlorn.
“With Michael Arndt given script writing duties the story began to take shape including the idea that part of the story revolved around searching through the underwater wreckage of the second Death Star in order to find the location of the hidden Jedi temples. Some elements did carry over into the final product, but for the most part Arndt’s Luke Skywalker heavy script was scrapped in favour JJ. Abrams’ and Lawrence Kasdan’s vision.
“From here on out the movie we saw is pretty much what they came up with, that being said a number of deleted scenes and concepts were left on the cutting room floor including Vader’s helmet being the mcguffin, Han Solo not being dead, a Jedi killer being the main antagonist and a sith imposter claiming to be Anakin Skywalker himself. Speaking of there was the intention of having a Anakin/Vader hybrid ghost appear in the film which never panned out. All this and more is highlight in the video above, so check it out! Or don’t. It’s all good.

Looks like we’re gonna get a cool little Firefly reunion soon! Summer Glau has signed on to make a guest appearance alongside Nathan Fillion in an upcoming episode of ABC’s Castle for an upcoming season eight episode.

According to TV Line, Glau will play “a smart, sexy and strong private detective who goes toe-to-toe with — you guessed it — Castle.” She will appear in this season’s 14th episode.

Glau recently reunited with Fillion and fellow Serenity crew member Alan Tudyk for the web series Con Man. She is the third cast member of Firefly to have a guest role in Castle this season. Earlier this season Gina Torres and Adam Baldwin jumped in on the fun.

I’m a big fan of Castle, and it’s great to see that Glau will be a part of the show for at least one episode! Castle returns to ABC on February 1st.

GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Action Figure Prototypes Revealed

Director Paul Feig has revealed the 6" action figure prototypes that Mattel has created for his upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. The toys feature the new Ghostbusters team, which consists of Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones).

Apparently, the reason Feig showed off the action figures was because there was a growing concern that the female Ghostbusters would be underrepresented by toy companies just like the characters Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Black Widow from the Marvel films. The director tweeted:

"Fear not. Action figures of our Busters have already been in production for months. Several types and sold separately."

It never crossed my mind that this would be an issue. After all, this new Ghostbusters flick seems like it's going to be a girl power movie. Because of that, I never thought for a second they would get screwed over on the toys. There's no doubt my little girls will want to collect them all.

HBO Finally Gives the DEADWOOD Movie a Greenlight!

For years there's been talk of a Deadwood movie that would finish the story for the HBO series that started back in 2004. The series ran for three seasons before it was cancelled in 2006, and it left fans hanging. Last year we learned that HBO was in "preliminary discussions," but it looks like things have progressed beyond that. According to HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, they've already given series creator David Milch the greenlight to make the film!

While a the Television Critics Association’s press tour party, Lombardo told TV Line:

"David has our commitment that we are going to do it. He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen."

You can't be much clearer than that. The Deadwood movie is going to happen! I was a huge fan of the show when it was on, and it's awesome to know that we'll get to see a conclusion to the story in movie form.

Milch is currently developing another project, but when he's done with that, he'll jump right into working on the Deadwood movie script. Lombardo went on to say that Milch “has something left unsaid” regarding the story, “I’ve known him for a while and it feels like it’s something he’s not done talking about.”

He's also said that he's confident Milch will be able to get the original cast back on board to reprise their roles. Apparently Mitch built a strong relationship and bond with them.

“The cast is unbelievably [tight]. Some casts and creators form a bond that becomes relevant for the rest of their lives. This was a defining moment for a lot of them.”

If you haven't watched Deadwood, you should in preparation for this movie. It starred Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane. The story was set in the late 1800s, and it revolved around the people of Deadwood, South Dakota, a town of deep corruption and crime. Hopefully this movie gives the story and these characters the proper ending they deserve.

NBC Officially Orders OFFICE-Style DC Spin-Off POWERLESS

Looks like the long-rumored DC spin off show is finally finding a home on NBC. Entertainment Weekly reports that the network has ordered a pilot for Powerless, an Office-style comedy set within the DC hero universe. We follow "exceedingly average" employees of an insurance company as they search for power. Sounds like an interesting concept! I always wondered what happened to the insurance industry in the wake of hero battles.

Ben Queen, who is most known for writing Cars 2, will be heading up the project. I'm cautiously optimistic for this one. It's for sure an interesting premise, and I'll be watching the first episode, but at the same time NBC has had a pretty godawful track record since the glory days of its primetime comedy. I wonder how this universe will fall into the worlds already established in Arrow, The Flash, and Gotham? Should it have a place within their universes? I think it would be cool for maybe an episode if the show is good!

CES 2016: Crazy Moment as US Marshals Raid Chinese Hoverboard Booth

CES 2016 had an awkward moment of sorts when U.S. Marshals stormed the convention hall in pursuit of a Chinese hoverboard booth. Once arriving at the booth, they began tearing down ads, collecting boards, and deconstructing the booth. The whole thing resulted from a several week long effort from Future Motion, an American-based company that developed the "One Wheel" several months ago. The company that was raided supposedly stole the patent and made their own cheaper copy.

The whole thing is a trip to watch, and that One Wheel looks pretty cool. At least they aren't calling it a hoverboard.

I really was unaware that U.S. Marshals had any jurisdiction outside of airplanes, so this was cool to watch!

This video features a young padawan boy going up against Darth Vader in a lightsaber duel, and what happens is completely unexpected. The kid goes absolutely ballistic on him! He tapped into The Force and just went crazy. It's absolutely hilarious! It gets even better when Darth Vader walks away because the kid starts to attack the Jedi host of the show and the Stormtroopers surrounding him! It's amazing.

A Petition To Bring George Lucas Back To STAR WARS Already Has 5k Signatures

While a bulk of people have said that George Lucas' retreat from the Star Wars franchise has been a good thing, there is currently a small minority that wants him back. 5,000 signatures have gathered under a petition to bring the Star Wars creator BACK into the development of the movies. More specifically, they want him to direct Episode IX...

We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow , but he's not the right guy to direct Star Wars Episode IX . George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy and make an epic farewell between the Father of Star Wars and the whole universe of the galaxy far, far away ....

The creator of the petition hails from Sao Paulo, Brazil, so his English is a little rough, but his intentions are clear...as are the responses of those who have signed...

"George Lucas is Star Wars. Period."

"If Lucas doesn't want to direct, that's okay...but please use his ideas and stories. Star Wars is a complex story with complex characters. The new movie has no direction, no plot, no story...and they've turned Han and Luke into irresponsible men who run from problems. It's disappointing what they've done to this franchise, and disrespectful what they've done to the integrity of the characters."

I'm signing this petition because we need good storytelling in movies nowadays and not just a lot of flashy camera angles and explosions like what JJ Abrams or disney would make.

In the week since its creation they are just about 2,000 short of their goal of 7,500 signatures. Is this a valid gripe?  Does Lucas have any right to be included again after selling his property? Is Star Wars George Lucas? Or is it bigger?

White House Says They Cannot Pardon Steven Avery

The White House has finally responded to the 355k signature petition signed by those wanting the President to pardon Making A Murderer subject Steven Avery. If you haven't read the title of the post already, they said they could not pardon him, even if they wanted to. Their official response is as follows...

"Under the Constitution, only federal criminal convictions, such as those adjudicated in the United States District Courts, may be pardoned by the President...

There's a camp of people that will say "bull s***. He's the President. He can do what he wants," but those people are probably the first to talk about the importance of state vs. federal rights. Truthfully, it looks like if anyone can give Steven Avery leniency, it's going to be the state of Wisconsin...which doesn't look likely.

I've read more and more on this whole thing as it's been in the news, and while I'm not sure that Steven Avery is innocent, I don't think he will ever see a retrial on the grounds that he was already seen as guilty in the public eye. Imagine the precedent it would set for guys like Scott Peterson and various other high profile cases where the case has already been adjudicated. On the other hand, it could offer hope to many men unjustifiably locked up with holes in their case.

Obviously, if it were cut and dried we wouldn't still be discussing it.

Full Poster for THE JUNGLE BOOK Revealed and Jon Favreau Discusses the Film

full-poster-for-the-jungle-book-revealed-and-jon-favreau-discusses-the-film

Disney has released the full poster triptych poster for The Jungle Book that they started teasing earlier this week. It features Mowgli (Neel Sethi), Baloo (Bill Murray), Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), Kaa (Scarlett Johansson), King Louie (Christopher Walken), and Shere Khan (Idris Elba).

When talking about the film during a set visit from /film, director Jon Favreau talked about the kind of movie he wanted to make:

“Ultimately when you make a movie, you want them to feel things. You don’t just want to wow them with spectacle. I think you have to deliver spectacle because that seems to be the only unifying that that everyone around the world likes, to go on a big ride and be immersed. But for me as a filmmaker, if you’re not going back to the old myths and telling them in a new way, you’re not interesting, you’re not doing the type of storytelling that I enjoy spending years of my life doing.
“I tend to like movies that make me feel something. I love the very pure myths, and there always seems to be a certain type of emotion. I don’t know if… it’s not like I intend it, but here’s a kid without a family who’s really persevering and going up against such hardships and such enduring loss, but still, you know, unflagging and fighting hard. And if you look at… my movies have been so different in genre, but I think you can figure out which are mine and it comes from the type of humor.”

I’ve been a fan of Favreau since Swingers. The guy makes solid films, and The Jungle Book looks like it could be one of his crowning achievements. I can't wait to see it!

Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, The Jungle Book is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong'o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela.

The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15th, 2016

Marvel has released a great-looking new banner for Daredevil Season 2. It was released on Twitter and it came with the caption: "Following the path of our hero." The promo art continues the artistic gothic chapel theme that we saw in the first poster and promo spot for the series that hit the web yesterday. The ceiling art you see in the poster above basically gives us a recap of the Matt Murdock's journey throughout the first season.

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.

Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

We have yet to learn who the main villain of season 2 will be, but do you have any guesses on who it could be? Will Wilson Fisk make his comeback as Kingpin or will they bring in someone new? We'll just have to wait and see! Daredevil Season 2 premieres March 18th on Netflix.

Supercut: Pixar's References to Classic Films

The writers, directors, animators, and creative team at Pixar are known for sneaking Easter eggs and references to other Pixar movies into whatever current project they happen to be working on. But the studio isn't only concerned with referencing its own output — the creative teams that work on their movies love film, so if you look closely, you'll see plenty of nods to other classic films throughout history hidden in plain sight.

Editor Jorge Luengo Ruiz has put together a supercut of these references, and it's cool to see them played out side by side to show just how purposeful (and accurate) they are.

Vin Diesel's XXX 3 Recruits Nina Dobrev and Ruby Rose

Franchise devotee Vin Diesel is gearing up for the third installment of the xXx saga, which is rumored to be titled xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) is directing what will be Diesel's return to the series after sitting out the second entry, and he'll be back as the titular extreme sports-loving reluctant secret agent.

THR reports that Diesel is attempting to shape this franchise into something similar to the Fast & Furious movies, which have him at the center of an ensemble cast. To that end, the production is in various stages of negotiations with Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries), Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black), and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone to join him in the action thriller. Dobrev will play "a witty and sarcastic techie," Rose will play a sniper, and Padukone sounds like she'll have the meatiest role of the three, playing "a huntress who happens to be Cage's former lover."

Plot details are being kept under lock and key, but Samuel L. Jackson is attached to reprise his role as the head of the National Security Agency once again. Production is set to begin later this month. Dobrev (who was fun in The Final Girls) and Rose are nice additions to the team (I can't speak about Padukone because I haven't seen her in anything), and I'm curious if anyone is excited about this movie. Let me know in the comments.

Jennifer Lawrence Plays The Hottest 89-Year-Old Woman Ever in Funny or Die Parody

Tons of digital ink has been devoted to how Jennifer Lawrence's on-screen love interests are often at least a decade older than her, but seemingly not as much has covered the fact that the characters she's played in biopics like American Hustle and Joy are much older than she is in real life. But Courtney Davis and Funny or Die noticed, and they've created an amusing new parody trailer that pokes fun at all of this age disparity. I laughed out loud when I saw which role they have Robert De Niro playing in this fake movie.

Amusing Trailer For ELVIS & NIXON With Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey

The first trailer has been released for the film Elvis & Nixon, and it looks great! Michael Shannon takes on the role of the rock 'n roll legend and Kevin Spacey plays the President of the United States. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this and it's a lot funnier than I expected it would be.

The movie tells the true story of when Elvis made an urgent request to be inducted into the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. His request was driven by his hatred of the drug culture that had emerged during that time. He wanted the opportunity to execute some justice. Here's the synopsis:

Elvis & Nixon follows two men at the height of their powers, conscious they could not stay on top forever, both ripped with fear of the inevitable, sharing one famous private moment in the Oval office. The film recounts the morning of December 21st 1970, when the King of Rock’ n Roll (Shannon) showed up on the White House lawn to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Richard Nixon (Spacey). He had a very urgent request: to be sworn in as an undercover Federal Agent at large. This intimate moment in the Oval office between two men at the height of their powers has never been told.

The movie also stars Evan Peters, Alex Pettyfer, Colin Hanks, Johnny Knoxville, Tracy Letts, and singer Sky FerreiraLiza Johnson directed the movie from a screenplay written by Joey SagalHanala Sagal, and actor Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride). The film is set to open on April.

The Russo Brothers Reveal Where We Find Captain America at The Start of CIVIL WAR

$

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the amount of time that elapses between films is generally about the amount of time that's passed in real life. So when Captain America: Civil War comes out on May 6th, expect it to be roughly ten months after the events of Ant-Man and about a year since Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo also told the outlet about where we find Captain America himself at the start of the movie. Joe said:

"We find Cap leading the Avengers. He's tutoring or mentoring Scarlet Witch in the beginning of the movie and bringing her into the fold. We find them on a mission at the start of the film. The effect that Ultron has had on everyone certainly is central to the storytelling of the movie. It's very strong. We're dealing with issues of collateral damage, imperialism, what rights do super heroes have to pursue villains across borders. It's very politically minded. Cap's dealing with all of that at the beginning."

Nothing super surprising there, but it'll be interesting to see how Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch handles the challenge of becoming a full-fledged member of the team. Captain America: Civil War will blast into theaters on May 6th.

THE FORCE AWAKENS' Biggest Death Was Foreshadowed in a 2010 Video Game

$

There are millions of Star Wars fans out there that it's not surprising that a fan predicted the title of the new movie two years before it was announced. There's also a staggering amount of content dedicated to George Lucas's universe, from straight up fan fiction to once-approved EU material (sorry, that's all no longer canon), books, comics, and much more. Considering the sheer amount of material out there, I guess it also shouldn't be all that surprising that a 2010 video game essentially spoiled the biggest character death in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but I still can't help but be a little shocked as to how close Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 managed to come to what actually happened. (Obviously, spoilers ahead.)

Look familiar? Some of the details are different, but that image of Han with a lightsaber through his chest that caused audible gasps in theaters around the world is right there, a full five years before the movie hit theaters. I'm not suggesting Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, and Michael Ardnt stole this moment from the game, because that would seemingly imply that they had time to look at every single piece of Star Wars content that was created up until the point that they wrote the script, which is a ludicrous thing to assume. They were on a time crunch in the first place, so there's no way they had time to scroll through stuff like that. It's just a coincidence, but it's still striking to see Han like that, years before he died on screen.
