Live-Action ASTRO BOY Headed to the Big Screen

live-action-astro-boy-headed-to-the-big-screen

Looks like Astro Boy is going to get another big screen adaptation, only this time it's going to be a live-action version. I'm kind of surprised that this movie is happening, especially since the 2009 animated movie pretty much bombed at the box office. I'm not sure if the market has gotten any better or bigger for Astro Boy since then.

The movie is being developed by Australia’s Animal Logic Entertainment and Japan’s Tezuka Productions. Animal Logic is mostly known for the special effects work they've done. Some of the projects that they've worked on include Happy Feet, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The LEGO Movie, The Matrix, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. They also started developing a Betty Boop feature back in 2007.

Astro Boy was created by Osamu Tezuka in 1952, and it tells the story of a young robot built by a scientist to replace his recently deceased son. After being abandoned, Astro is raised by another scientist where he’s given upgrades that allow him to fight crime.

No director is attached to the project yet, but the producers are already out the hunt for a writer to take it on. Judging by how well the last feature film did at the box office, I don't think this one will do much better.

Doctor Who and LEGO fans should be excited to learn that LEGO will be releasing an official Doctor Who set based on a fan model built by Andrew ClarkEvery year, the toy company picks a few new ideas that are voted on that they turn into actual sets under their "Ideas Lego" banner. Previous examples are the Back to the Future Delorean and Ghostbusters Ecto-1. Here's some information from the press release:

Both Doctor Who and LEGO enjoy a particularly close relationship with their fans and I can’t wait to see what LEGO produce.” Emma Owen, UK spokesperson for LEGO Ideas added, “We’re extremely excited to announce that a Doctor Who and a WALL-E set will be released as our next LEGO Ideas fan based sets, congratulations to the designers Andrew Clark and Angus MacLane!
“After receiving over 10,000 votes from the online community and having gone through rigorous toy testing from our expert panel, these awesome sets are on track to be on shelves later this year. The final set designs, pricing and availability are being worked out as we speak, so watch this space for the final details!

The images below are from the original pitch idea, and not final product photos. They're still cool though!

Release Dates for STEVE JOBS, CREED, and POINT BREAK

Here's a quick release date shuffle to keep you up to date. The Rocky spin-off Creed, directed by Fruitvale Station's Ryan Coogler and starring Fantastic Four's Michael B. Jordan alongside Sylvester Stallone, will hit theaters on November 25th this year, which is the day after Thanksgiving. This isn't some lame addition to the Rocky franchise envisioned by Stallone, either - the idea was conceived by Coogler as a way to allow him to work with Jordan again, and they reached out to Sly with the idea of him reprising his role. With this franchise given new life, I'm excited to see where this goes - and I'm especially excited to see Jordan take on the role of a young boxer related to Apollo Creed.

Meanwhile, the Point Break remake (which I still think is completely unnecessary, considering how Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 original remains an action movie masterpiece) has moved into Mission: Impossible 5's previous release date of Christmas Day. That's almost a five month delay from its original July 31st release date. Should fans be worried about this? I don't think so - both the summer period and the Christmas movie season are places where studios place films they're confident in, and if it was a disaster, they could easily have moved it to January of next year if they wanted to. Either way, though, this movie is going to be completely decimated by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens only a few days earlier.

And finally, Universal's Steve Jobs will open on October 9th, 2015, just in time for the next awards season. Michael Fassbender plays the title role while Seth Rogen plays Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Danny Boyle is directing Aaron Sorkin's screenplay, which is divided into three long scenes - each taking place around the product launch of a different Apple device.

Looking forward to these movies? Let us know below.

SPIDER-MAN — 10 Actors We'd Cast

$

Rumors of a Marvel Studios deal with Sony to share the rights for Spider-Man have been circulating ever since the Sony Pictures hack. The deal opened up as a possibility because Sony is reportedly unhappy with how its movie production company has mismanaged the franchise, producing high budget under-performing movies. Sony Pictures has made every effort to discredit any deal (despite what its parent company wants), while Marvel Studios - who wants the deal - has stayed very quite.

While this whole mess gets sorted, we do know that if Marvel brings Spider-Man into their cineverse they are going to be jettisoning all canon from the Mark Webb and Sam Raimi films. Which means Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will not be Spider-Man eligible.

If/when Spider-Man joins the Marvel cineverse, rumor is that it will be sometime during the Avengers: Infinity War two part saga, and not have any origin story for the character.

I bounced some actors names around with the GeekTyrant team and this is a list of 10 actors we'd cast to play Spider-Man. I've broken them up into three major groups that describe how that version of Spider-Man might work in the Marvel cineverse.

Young Spider-Man:

Having a young wisecracking Spider-Man who is a runt of the Avengers litter would add an interesting dynamic. If the Marvel cineverse is able to be cohesive long enough, we could see a 15 year arc of Spider-Man starting as a rookie and becoming leader of the Avengers. Peter Parker joining the "Science Bros." would also be very fun to see.

Click play button above to watch.

Josh Hutcherson
(22) 5' 7"

Hutcherson came very close to getting the role back in 2010. I've embed his screen test so you can see what he looks like in action. Carrying over fans of the Hunger Games would be another reason why Marvel Studios might consider him.

Dylan O'Brien
(23) 5' 11"

Playing a character with no revealable backstory is a hard thing to act and O'Brien did it very well in The Maze Runner. He also displayed his ability to pull off action. Finally, he has a small but vocal fan base from Teen Wolf.

Anton Yelchin
(25) 5' 9"

With the strongest filmography of the young group, Yelchin gives great performances in large franchises and indie films alike. He's been a believable action-ish hero in several films and he's got really great comedic timing. Geeky, yet brave - that sounds like Peter Parker to me.

Seasoned Spider-Man:

This Spider-Man has been fighting crime in New York for at least a decade; he was in a different part of Manhattan fighting the Kree during the events of the first Avengers film. Thanks to J. Jonah Jameson, only the Avengers are credited for saving New York, so that puts a minor chip on his shoulder. He could be a bit of a lone wolf who does not want to join a team. I wouldn't have him take off the mask until the second movie to reveal that he's Peter Parker, a long time tech rival to Tony Stark.

Jim Sturgess
(33)  6' 0"

A believable mathematician in 21 and a surprise action hero in Cloud Atlas, Sturgess in an underrated actor who's proven very versatile. He's not very well known, which could work in his favor, depending on what Marvel is after.

Ben Whishaw
(34) 5' 9"

Whishaw has such a unique sounding voice and brings real raw emotion into all the roles I've seen him in. He's not exactly an action star and has not proven himself in that respect, but it's the unexpected which could make him work. Imagine a late reveal after a long battle, with Spider-Man finally taking off his mask to reveal a nerd.

Jake Gyllenhaal
(34) 6' 0"

Gyllenhaal was set to replace Maguire if he didn't return for Spider-Man 3. Arguably the most versatile actor on the list, he's played nearly every type of role except superhero. This might be the right time and role for Gyllenhaal.

Matthew Goode
(36) 6' 2"

Having played Ozymandias in Watchmen, Goode is no stranger to comic book movies. His best work can be seen in numerous indie films. It's his appearance on The Good Wife as Finn Polmar, a charismatic and sharp witted lawyer, that makes me think he could pull off the Spidey-quips.

Hugh Dancy
(39) 5' 11"

From Black Hawk Down and The Jane Austen Book Club to Hannibal, Dancy is another actor with a wide acting range. He could bring a real gravity to the role but also has great comedy timing.

Veteran Spider-Man:

Retired as Spider-Man for many years, Peter Parker has built a tech company Parker Industries, a rival to Stark Industries. The events of Infinity Wars make him don the suit once again, this time with more web tricks than we've ever seen on film. He will die saving the world or pass on the torch when he realizes the world still needs Spider-Man, in either case paving the way for Miles Morales.

Tom Cruise
(52) 5' 7"

I can't think of an actor who loves doing his own wire-work stunts more than Cruise. He was very nearly Iron Man, a role he was attached to for years and eventually lost interest in. Cruise brings a fierce intelligence and intensity that could be explosive to see when paired against Robert Downey Jr. — I'd love to see those guys go toe to toe.

Kevin Bacon
(56) 5' 10"

Bacon still has the moves and has an earnestness that would be amazing to see in an older Peter Parker. He's also the exact height of Spider-Man in the comics.

Wildcards:

Essentially my honorable mentions list. I don't think these actors have a chance at playing Spider-Man, but I do hope they can become contenders if Marvel's take on the character changes.

Tyler James Williams as Miles Morales
(22) 5' 8"

The second youngest on the list, Williams has been a child actor for much of his life. He's great on The Walking Dead and many of the other numerous roles he's played. He's also been near the top of every fan casting list I came across for Morales.

Donald Glover as Miles Morales
(31) 5' 10"

Glover, best known for his role on Community, was the subject of a fan movement to have Sony cast him as Spider-Man when the property was rebooted by Webb. He's also voiced an animated Morales on Ultimate Spider-Man.

Grant Gustin
(25) 6' 2"

Yes, he's The Flash, but he's also got all the qualities that would make a great Spider-Man. After Warner Bros. and DC decided not to connect the movie and TV universes, they have left all those great actors up for grabs by Marvel. It would be interesting if Gustin decided that if they aren't going to make him The Flash in the movies, he's just going to be Spider-Man.

That wraps up this GeekTyrant fan casting list. Who would you cast and how would you fit that version of Spider-Man into the Marvel cineverse?

Film Isn't Dead Yet - Kodak Reaches Deal With Hollywood Studios

$

Here's an interesting piece of news for those of you who have been keeping track of the ongoing battle between celluloid and digital filmmaking. After announcing that they'd have to shut down operations of the only remaining lab in Hollywood, THR reports that Kodak has now come to an agreement with the studios that will allow the company to continue to manufacture film - at least for the time being.

Disney, Fox, Paramount, Sony, NBC Universal, and Warner Bros. will all buy undisclosed amounts of film from Kodak for a certain number of years to keep the option alive for some of the studios' most prominent filmmakers to be able to actually shoot on film. Outspoken advocates of this method include Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, J.J. Abrams, Judd Apatow, and more. It remains to be seen how the studios will put this into practice - will only their most high-profile directors have the chance to shoot on film, or will they be a little looser with it, allowing up-and-coming filmmakers the option as well? - but this is definitely good news for people who are die-hard film fanatics who love the look of celluloid and prefer it over the digital look.

Though film is unquestionably in decline, it's not dead yet - and hopefully studios will be able to set aside enough money annually to keep this deal going indefinitely.

Homemade Remote Controlled Millennium Falcon

Recently we wrote about a group of guys who built their own Avengers helicarrier drone, and now it looks like someone has been inspired by a galaxy far, far away to make their own Star Wars drone: not just any drone, but a remote controlled version of Han Solo's Millennium Falcon, complete with LED lights. It's not a 100% perfect replica design, but it's pretty impressive for a quadrocopter, and it looks great for a homemade way to pretend you're controlling Han and Chewie as they tear through space. I like the second video the best, which features the Falcon flying across the surface of Hoth (aka a snow-covered area).

WWE 2K15 - A Second Look Review

$
0
0

First off, let us clarify what a Second Look Review is.

Games are rarely released nowadays as promised, and in many cases it takes a few weeks to a few months before they are truly complete and finished products, thanks to DLC, patches, etc. A Second Look review is one that takes these things into consideration, and allows a bit more time for retrospection before a review score is assigned.

WWE 2K15 is a strange beast. It is the first WWE title on current generation systems, but it was also released on the previous generation platforms, and because of that straddling of the fence it wasn’t going to be a fully next-gen product, just based on the nature of game design, deadlines, and resources. While we will have to wait for 2K16 for that next true step, there is a lot to like in this version of the franchise, as well as some questionable design decisions that just don’t make sense in this day and age. Let’s do this thing, shall we?

Wrestling has the tagline of Sports Entertainment, and rightfully so, because the storyline and character arcs of your favorite wrestler are just as important as the physical ability of the athlete in the ring. They go hand in hand, and it is something that past video games have struggled to capture. 2K15 is still hampered by this disconnect, and it's especially noticeable after playing the showcase mode, the one place where the game shines - but we will get to showcase in a minute. Playing WWE Universe mode is entertaining, but all drama is sucked out of the rivalries and “random happenings” when the same animations are used time and time again, and without any voiceovers to boot. Its like watching a Charlie Chaplin film, and seeing every wrestler just come out and do the same shtick without any other context just drains any drama out of the proceedings.

The big selling point this time around is 2K Showcase. Showcase comes out of the box featuring two rivalries, John Cena vs. CM Punk and Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels, with more to come via DLC (the first of these, One More Match, just released yesterday). The former is done pretty well, but lacks the, well, "epicness," let’s call it, of the latter. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels has a variety of classic moments, and is a blast to play. Lots of attention has been paid to recreating the matches in their entirety, from the outfits and arenas to the dialogue and in-ring antics. The fact that they even included authentic dialogue during the in-game action is much appreciated, even if it is a little rough around the edges. The volume is extremely low on these, making it hard to hear above the crowd, announcing, etc, but I appreciated it being there at all. John Cena vs. CM Punk is a quality feud, sure, but there are so many others that warranted inclusion, plus there's the elephant in the room - that CM Punk and WWE just got over a nasty split - so there were lots of reasons here to put another feud in the spotlight. The DLC ones include Christian vs. Randy Orton, Mark Henry vs. Everybody, and the final one will focus on the Ultimate Warrior. If they are half as good, they will be welcome additions to the game.

2K Showcase impressed,  but WWE’s online mode does not. All of the action is handled via background matchmaking, with the only avenue to get a match going on your own being private matches. But if you want to increase your ranking or just don’t have any friends who like playing WWE on at the moment, you will just have to wait on the matchmaking to do it for you. This to me is just a blatant misfire, but what makes it worse is that the matchmaking is erratic at best, making it painfully hard to get a match going. After activating it I’ve gone a half hour to an hour without ever getting a match invite, and then sometimes it just turns off for no apparent reason, which I don’t discover until I head back to the home screen. If you do get a match, you can’t just go to a select screen to pick your wrestler, either. You have to pick a few wrestlers who you prefer in a menu, and then it just goes by the list when assigning a match. The thought might have been to streamline the online aspect, but they went a bit too far and just made it altogether limiting and unappealing. I just kind of gave up on finding a match, and decided to ignore it all together. The matches I did play were fine overall, though there was the occasional lag.

A wrestling show is all about presentation, and for the most part 2K15 excels in that regard. The graphics are quite good on the wrestlers themselves (aside from hair in general - still not quite there yet), but the areas around the ring, crowds, etc all have a bit of boxiness to them. The wrestlers vary in accuracy, but there are more hits than misses. The face-scanning tech they used is impressive, with standouts including Randy Orton, Cesaro, Naomi, and Sheamus. There are also some scans that just did not translate, like The Miz, The Bellas, and Roman Reigns. The divas overall actually just aren’t that accurate, which brings us to one of the most glaring omissions, and that is creatable Divas. There are so many talented Divas right now in WWE, including Paige, Naomi, Natalya, Charlotte (still in NXT, but a call up is coming), and to not have the option to create your own Diva is glaring and at this point not really excusable. The superstar is front and center, and for Divas the only options are to change the outfit of the 7 divas to choose from. It just doesn’t make any sense, and doesn’t help the generally held opinion that WWE constantly mishandles, or worse, blatantly ignores its women wrestlers and the value that they hold. While the PS3 and 360 versions came with a NXT-centric mode, PS4 and XBox One were left out of that, and while I understood making the products a little different, that seems to be a big omission, as NXT has garnered quite a following, and would have just been an additional bright spot here.

Okay, so we’ve gone over everything around the product except for the actual wrestling, and while normally that would be a bit upside down, with wrestling all the other things are so important to the overall product that I felt it necessary. The in-ring action is much quicker than past versions, with strikes and kicks feeling snappy, but not allowing the player to spam them constantly to a win. The grapple tie up system new to this year's version is fun, and adds just a little layer of strategy to the proceedings, but it still doesn't feel like it affects the match itself very much (win or lose), which is hopefully adjusted in future versions. Even in its current state, the system contributes to the general feel of a match in a positive way, and that is something 2K15 excels at overall. The flow of a match and the constant back and forth that is a wrestling altercation are so well done here, and even if you are winning by a landslide, a smart player can still pull out a victory if momentum flows in their favor. The collision detection on limb targeting, especially while someone is on the ground, is a bit janky sometimes, but overall works pretty well. Each wrestler’s move set is well represented, especially with the additional moves pack that just released not too long ago, but I wish WWE and 2K would go further.

That brings us to  a section I like to call R&D. R&D will bring up a few features that will go a long way to improving next year's product.

Customizable Divas

It's 2015, and women in wrestling should not still be relegated to eye candy on Raw and Smackdown. With NXT offering phenomenal women’s competition on a weekly basis, the writing staff on the main stage is completely blowing it in this area, and there is no excuse. If WWE stopped treating its women’s division as second tier, the product on Raw and Smackdown would increase quality-wise exponentially. This can also carry over to 2K16. Give the Diva’s division the attention it deserves, and let any features for their male counterparts be accessible to them.

Roster Updates

Sports games of every other type have at least one if not several roster updates during their time, including things like injuries, trades, roster updates, etc. WWE has a year-round product, and one that is constantly evolving and changing. It's unrealistic to think a developer can keep up with all of these, but maybe one or two updates during the game's life would keep things fresh and interest fans who get caught up with other games coming back for another round. Seth Rollins has turned on the shield, won money in the bank, brought the authority back, and now performed in a fantastic triple threat match at Royal Rumble. None of this is represented in 2K15, even months after release. WWE’s mobile Supercard game has actually implemented some of these things on a regular basis, so why can’t 2K do the same?

Attention to Detail on Storylines

Voiceover work is expensive and time-consuming, but it ends up being worth it in the end. If you’re going to have storylines in WWE Universe, have more than just a handful of different run-ins, scenarios, etc, and have some voicework with it. Otherwise it just ends up being generic and no one cares about it. Either go all in or don’t do it at all, but halfway just isn’t memorable.

Commentary

Much improved this year, but since Raw has now added Booker T to the commentary table, I would love to see this reflected in next year's game. Lawler is just a dirty old man, and that shtick is getting old.

Online Retooling

Some sort of lobby system needs to be implemented into 2K16, as the background matchmaking and preference-based matches (once you actually get invited to one) just aren't intuitive and rarely work. Not being able to pick a wrestler for each match is insane, and I'm not really sure what motivated that move in the first place.

The good news is 2K is actually asking for this kind of fan feedback, so if you want to make your voice heard, head here and let them know what you would like to see. As always keep it civil and focused, and not just “WWE 2K15 Sucks Donkey Nads,” because that kind of criticism is always oh so helpful.

So, with some time to look at it, do you agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments, and if you’re looking for a match, hit me up at KnightofOA on PSN.

Wicked Cool Wild West Batman Action Figure

Square-Enix has unveiled its Wild West Batman action figure, and it's completely badass! This is the first in a line of a new series of Batman figures in their PAK Variant line called “Batman Timeless.” The series re-imagines the Dark Knight throughout a variety of historical eras. Some of the other figures will include Spartan Batman, a Medieval Knight Batman, and Steampunk Victorian Batman.

This wild west Batman is perfection though, with all of its amazing detail. I especially love the cowboy hat with bat ears! The toys that Square Enix has been developing are awesome, and I hope that they do this kind of thing with more comic book characters. You can check out out their Robocop figure here and their Darth Vader figure here.

There are no details on a release date or price yet, but we’ll keep you updated. I'm gonna have to start collecting these.

Live-Action ROBOTECH Movie Back in Development

$

I've never seen an episode of the 1980s anime series Robotech, but a live-action film version has been kicking around Hollywood for years. Last we heard, Leonardo DiCaprio was interested in the movie, but that version fell apart a couple of years back. Now Deadline reports that the movie is back in development again, with Mama director Andy Muschietti being eyed by producers Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra scribe Michael Gordon is writing the screenplay, which presumably will use the same basic plot as previous versions:

Robotech takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off an alien invasion, with the fate of the human race ending up in the hands of two young pilots.

Look, I know some of you are probably thinking, "ANOTHER movie about humanity using giant robots to defeat aliens?" but I ask you this: it can't possibly be worse than Transformers: Age of Extinction, can it?

No word yet on who the studio has in mind to star or a timetable for production, but any movement on this dormant property should be considered a good sign for fans of Robotech. Interested in seeing a live-action version hit the big screen?

Just in case you didn't get enough adrenaline-feuled awesomeness from the Furious 7 Super Bowl spot, Universal Pictures has released a new 3-minute trailer full of exhilarating, action-packed footage. There are a lot of fans looking forward to seeing this movie, and if you're not sold on it yet, this is going to be the trailer to do it. I think Jason Statham is going to steal the show as the big bad villain, and the trailer teases a fight scene between him and Dwayne Johnson. That's a fight I'll pay to see!

Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Johnson lead the returning cast of Furious 7. James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring) directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black.
They are joined by Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak, The Protector), Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), John Brotherton (The Conjuring) and a cameo by Iggy Azaela.

The movie races into theaters on April 3rd, 2015. Fans of the franchise are definitely going to love this.

Milo Ventimiglia Joins GOTHAM as a Villain

Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia has joined the cast of the hit series Gotham, and he will be taking on the role of Jason Lennon, a.k.a. “the Ogre.” The character will be around for a multi-episode recurring story arc, and he’ll make his first appearance in episode 19.

The Ogre is described as being handsome, wealthy, and seductive, but he’s a serial killer who has been preying on the young women of Gotham for almost a decade. According to Variety, he lures the women into his web “confronting them with a series of 'tests' as he searches for his perfect mate. When the women fail to live up to his impossible standard, Lennon disposes of them quickly and viciously.” The report goes on to say:

“His obsessions, combined with Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) determination to bring him down, send both Gordon and Lennon — as well as those around them — on a course toward tragedy.”

Ventimiglia’s character does share a nickname with a villain from the DC Comics universe, but this new character is unrelated to any previous versions. The actor is going to fit right in in Gotham, and he’s going to make a great serial killer. It doesn’t sound like things are going to end on a good note with this character.

Jimmy Fallon managed to give fans the Saved By The Bell reunion that we've always wanted to see, and it's hilarious. The surprise reunion took place last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and the host was able to get five of the original seven stars of Saved By The Bell to do a skit set at Bayside High School.

The skit was about what life in high school was like for Fallon, and it includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Elizabeth Berkley, and Dennis Haskins. I'm kind of bummed that that Dustin Diamond didn't make it, but he's dealing with his own issues.

I watched this show religiously when I was growing up, and it was so awesome to see these actors reunite for this skit. Seeing them reprise their roles from the fun series after all these years was fan-freakin-tastic. In case you missed it, here ya go!

Creepy First Footage and Poster from New POLTERGEIST Film

Yesterday we shared some photos from the new Poltergeist film that is being produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Gil Kenan. Today we have a creepy little tease showing the first footage from the film, and then apparently tomorrow we will get a trailer to watch!

The footage below shows a scene in the film that takes a page from the original 1982 film, and it's a fun short clip that I enjoyed. I won't spoil it for you, but fans are either going to embrace it or push it away.

As a huge fan of the original film and the talented individuals who are involved with developing this new movie, it's hard for me not to be excited. Then I see footage like this, and I'm sold. This movie really could offer some solid scares.

Raimi and Kenan reimagine the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry evil spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.

The movie stars Sam RockwellRosemarie DeWitt, and Jared Harris. It's set to haunt theaters on July 24th. I'm happy to see that the film is allowing itself to be inspired by the original film, but I hope they they take the scares even further. Check out the clip and let us know what you think!

Yesterday Marvel released the first trailer for their Netflix series Daredevil, and I really liked what I saw. This series has so much potential to deliver something awesome, and I couldn’t be more exited to watch it.

In an interview conducted by IGN, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight opens up about the series. He discusses things such as the evolution of the costume, The Kingpin’s role in the story, Matt Murdock's religion, the inclusion of Stick, and the kind of brutality we’ll see in the series.

Here's some of the insight that he offered on the highly anticipated series:

Costume Evolution:

"Really, the reason we start with this version -- which is hugely influenced by Man Without Fear -- is for two reasons. One, this really is the beginning, the formation of Matt Murdock a Daredevil. On the flip side, it’s the formation of Wilson Fisk becoming Kingpin. It’s very much a parallel arc. We didn’t want to start him in the [red] suit. We wanted the early days of him figuring out what he was doing and making mistakes and getting the crap beat out of him on a regular basis. His suit, which we call his vigilante outfit, in the beginning - we tried practically everything, design-wise. We experimented with a lot of different head pieces. One version was a ski mask with the eyes sewn shut. We tried everything until we found something that just felt right. And also, really going back to that Man Without Fear, I can’t say where his costume ends up, where it goes, but there is definitely an evolution."

The Kingpin's Role:

"When we first meet him, he's a very mysterious figure, as you can gather from the teaser. Absolutely, a lynchpin of Season 1. I think there’s a no better way to start of the series than a formative Matt Murdock coming up against a formative Wilson Fisk. We were so incredibly lucky to get Vincent D’Onofrio, who is not only a phenomenal actor and an amazing person to be around, so very generous as an actor and performer, but I don’t know if there’s another human being on the planet that embodies WIlson Fisk, physically, like in the comics. I think, honestly, he is as close as you’re going to get, unless you’re doing an animated series. We just marveled. We were like holy s**t, it is Wilson Fisk come to life! Even in the teaser, when you just see him from behind, standing in front of that painting, you just get the feeling that it’s Wilson Fisk, the future Kingpin. Fisk plays a crucial role in Season 1, as the adversary of Matt Murdock. Also, on the flip side, Matt Murdock is the fly in Fisk’s ointment. What I love about this show is we’re able to explore some gray areas of who is really good, who is really bad, and which person is really better for the city in the long run. It's a question we really examine."

Murdock's Religion:

"I think it’s vital to the character. Matt Murdock is, I think, one of the most if not the most religious characters in the Marvel Universe, with the heroes. His Catholicism is so much part of his being and part of his conflict, I think it would be incredibly disingenuous to attempt to do the show where that’s not a big part of it."

Including Stick:

"We spent weeks and weeks talking about Stick and who do we get and I had been saying coming into the show, I was obsessed with getting Sonny Chiba and mixing it up but that didn’t quite work out. We had mentioned in the [writers] room Scott Glenn and I don’t know why it fell by the wayside but I was watching The Leftovers and I saw him and I believe he is in his earlier 70’s and in better shape than me or anybody I know. So I suggested everybody take a look at The Leftovers and his performance and everybody was on board. We reached out to his people and were delighted. First, I sent an email to my old buddy Damon Lindelof. I just wanted to make sure he was not shooting [The Leftovers]. I didn’t want to step on his toes and once that was cleared up, we reached out and he was very interested. He read the script and really liked it and said, "Yeah, I’d love to do it." I can tell you, one of the highlights of my career was getting on the phone with Scott Glenn, because he’s exactly how you would imagine him. He’s just a fantastic guy. He’s so great to work with. His portrayal of Stick... He’s perfect in that role."

Brutality:

"I always loved in the comics that also this is a guy that has heightened sense but no super powers. This is a guy who’s pushing himself to the limit who can get hurt and can get killed... I’m hugely influenced by the Frank Miller runs that I grew up with, where he was constantly getting the crap kicked out of him. Again, obviously there’s a bit of a heightened sense of reality that he can do what he can do and not end up in the hospital every other day. But we also touch upon why that is. Really, it’s like Batman without the money. He is just determined. It’s sheer force of will that keeps him going when a normal man would fall over and a lot of that I think, also in the Matt Murdock mythos, comes from his father and being a boxer and that kind of thing, where you just don’t quit."

Make sure to head on over to IGN to read more. There’s a lot of exciting stuff here, and it seems like they have a solid grasp on how they’ve handled this thing. Marvel's Daredevil debuts April 10th on Netflix.

A 37-year-old Marvel fan named Henry Damon took his fandom to the extreme when he went through the process of transforming his face into the villain Red Skull from Captain America. To make this happen he had several subdermal implants in his forehead, and then had part of his nose cut off in order to achieve the villain's look. He took things even further by having his eyeballs tattooed black and also added red and black face tattoos. How do you get your eyeballs tattooed black?! I didn't know that was even possible! That just seems like it would be insanely painful! Wow.

Damon, who is a husband and father, now calls himself Red Skull. Unfortunately, I don't think he really looks like the character. His friend Pablo Hernandez told Daily Mail:

"He has loved comic books since he was a kid and always dreamed of being Red Skull, but never got round to doing it."

Until now. Look, I'm huge fan of Marvel, but if I ever transformed myself into one of their characters it would be Captain America because it would require me to work out, get in shape, and wear a badass looking costume. It also would require me NOT to make my face look absolutely terrifying! You can see all of the transformation photos in the video below.

First 2-Minutes of THE WALKING DEAD Mid-Season Premiere

AMC has released a clip for The Walking Dead featuring the first two minutes of the season five mid-season premiere. It’s a very dramatic and emotional opening that shows the state of mind the characters are in as they continue their horrific journey of survival.

After the tragic events of the mid-season finale – as well as losing the possibility of a cure in Washington, DC – Rick Grimes’ band of survivors find themselves on the road, surviving day-to-day and trying to hold on to their shredded humanity and dwindling hope. Stripped of security and without a direction for the future, some of the group near their breaking point, some find themselves hardened and cold and some just try to grasp onto what little they have left.
Though they are still breathing, the line between Rick’s group and the dead is starting to blur. Could there be anything at this point that brings them back to life?

The series is set to return on February 8th, and the show has already been renewed for a sixth season, which is set to start in the fall of 2015.

Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks Join Nicolas Winding Refn's THE NEON DEMON

While we wait to find out if Keanu Reeves will reprise his role in a John Wick sequel, the actor will be teaming up with one of Hollywood's most dynamic visual stylists: Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn. Variety reports that Reeves and Drive star Christina Hendricks have joined the cast of Refn's next film The Neon Demon, which already has Elle Fanning in the lead role of "an aspiring model caught in a world of beauty and demise."

No word yet on who Reeves or Hendricks will be playing, and the story itself is still shrouded in mystery. So far, we know that it will be a female-driven horror film that sounds very much like the atmospheric kind of story we expect from this director. Here's what he said about the genesis of the idea:

“One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.”

Reeves and Hendricks join the previously-cast Fanning, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, and Bella Heathcote. Sounds like Reeves is getting involved with another female-heavy production following his turn in Eli Roth's horror film Knock Knock, but if Joey's review is any indication of that film's quality, let's hope this one turns out much better. Production starts on March 30th in Los Angeles, so expect this one to make the festival rounds later this year or early next year.
