Promo Art Surfaces for Joss Whedon's WONDER WOMAN

Back in 2005, Avengers director Joss Whedon wrote a Wonder Woman script for Warner Bros. Unfortunately his version of the film never saw the light of day. But today some rare promotional art for the film he was developing has surfaced, and the original art is currently up sale for sale on eBay for a good cause.

Money is being raised for Clydene Nee, who is suffering from kidney failure. "The money will go to help support her healthcare and living expenses. Clydene has worked in the comic book industry and is a long time and loved member of the art community." She was also a San Diego Comic-Con volunteer who is instrumental in the continued existence of Artists' Alley.

The art was created by Adam Hughes, and apparently prints of it were given away at Comic-Con back in 2005. When talking about his version of Wonder Woman, Whedon had this to say in a previous interview:

"She was very powerful and very naïve about people. The fact that she was a goddess was how I eventually found my in to her humanity and vulnerability, because she would look at us and the way we kill each other and the way we let people starve and the way the world is run and she'd be like, 'None of this makes sense to me'."

It's a shame this movie never happened, but one day it will, and it probably won't be as good as what Whedon could have given us.

None of George Lucas' Ideas Were Used in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

We know that George Lucas was developing a new trilogy of Star Wars films before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. I've been curious to know how much of the story he was developing made it into J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens - and now we know.

Early on in the development process, Lucas gave his story notes and outlines to screenwriter Michael Arndt, who was the first screenwriter to work on the project. When Abrams came on board as director, Abrams wasn't on board with Arndt's vision, so he took over the writing duties with Lawrence Kasdan.

In an interview with CimemaBlend, Lucas was asked about his original idea for Episode VII, and this was his response:

"The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn't really want to do those. So they made up their own. So it’s not the ones that I originally wrote [on screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens]."

So The Force Awakens is going to be a completely different story than what Lucas wanted to tell. In case you were wondering what that might have been, there are rumors that he wanted to make Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia secondary characters and focus on a whole new younger generation. Now, The Force Awakens gives us a group of new characters such as Finn, Rey, and Poe, but the main franchise characters will also have a larger presence and play a more important part in the story. It's just another reason why I'm glad that Lucas doesn't have his hands in these new films. The fans want to see Luke, Han, and Leia!

Aside from characters though, I am curious to know what Lucas' story would have entailed. Hell, we still don't even really know what Abrams is doing! My question to you is who do you trust more with these characters? Abrams or Lucas?

New Mash-Up Featuring All of 2015's Best Picture Nominees

Earlier this morning, I wrote about some humorous "honest posters" for some of 2015's Academy Award nominees. Those weren't meant to be taken seriously, but this new mash-up video from University of Nevada student Dustin Martin is a great way to get psyched for this year's Oscar ceremony. It combines elements from all of this year's Best Picture nominees, and it's so well done that I wouldn't be surprised if the Academy reaches out to him to cut together their official videos for this year's event. Check it out below, and let us know which film you'd like to see win Best Picture.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 5 Trailer - "Another Day"

The Walking Dead Season 5 returns on February 8th, and while we wait, AMC has released a new trailer called "Another Day." This is such a fascinating series, full of great characters. The only problem is...they keep killing them off! I'm curious to see where the second half of this season takes this group of survivors. Here's a synopsis that was included with the video:

After the tragic events of the mid-season finale--as well as losing the possibility of a cure in Washington, DC--Rick Grimes' band of survivors find themselves on the road, surviving day to day and trying to hold on to their shredded humanity and dwindling hope.
Stripped of security and without a direction for the future, some of the group near their breaking point, some find themselves hardened and cold and some just try to grasp on to what little they have left.
Though they are still breathing, the line between Rick's group and the dead is starting to blur.

The show has already been picked up for a sixth season, so the nightmarish adventures will continue.

Assassin's Link Art by Jon Lock

While everyone is excited about Link's new Wii U adventure, it's always fun to imagine what could have been, and artist Jon Lock has a slick Assassin's Creed Unity-inspired redesign for the character. I was a big fan of Arno's look in general, so this was an easy pick for me, but if you're not a fan of that design you can scroll down to see some of his other Assassin's Creed inspired Links, and, of course, a pretty badass version of Impa. All of them include his wonderfully vivid color work as well as his unique approach of bold lines and watercolor style effects. Plus, just for fun, you can find his casual take on Link at the bottom of the post. If you like what you see, you can take a look at the rest of his gallery here

WORLD WAR Z 2 Will Start With a "Clean Slate"

World War Z was a surprise hit in the summer of 2013. It did incredibly well commercially and critically, even after going through multiple reshoots and replacing the entire third act that was left on the cutting room floor. We've reported in the past that a sequel is coming, and now we have a bit of an update from the screenwriter Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Locke).

Knight spoke with Thompson on Hollywood and revealed an interesting direction for World War Z 2.

"I thought, 'why not? What fun.' It’s not quite like the other, we're starting with clean slate. When they've signed off we're on."

The sequel is expected to be released in October of 2016, but it's that "clean slate" comment that has us a little confused. What the hell that exactly means, I'm not so sure. Brad Pitt is coming back, so it can't be a complete redo. Also this is very much a sequel so they may restructure the story so it's more in line with the phenomenal book. I'd love to see more of those scenes explored on film since we only got a handful in the first. Regardless, I have faith in the project - Knight is a great screenwriter whom I believe will do the story justice.

Infographic: An Internet Minute in 2013 vs. 2014

The people at TechSpartan.co.uk (via Geekologie) put together a cool infographic that breaks down the number of things that happen across social media platforms in one minute on the internet. The numbers speak for themselves, but it's not surprising to see an increase across the board in categories like tweets, photos posted to Instagram, and apps downloaded from the Apple store. The biggest surprise, for me anyway, is to see how much of a massive increase in YouTube uploads there were from 2013 to 2014. There are entire subcultures that play out on YouTube that I'm not even aware of, and since it's still the most dominant video site on the web, it looks like Google made a good decision buying them for $1.65 billion back in 2006.

New EVERLY Trailer: Salma Hayek Blasts Bad Guys

Salma Hayek has been in plenty of action movies before, but Everly is the first one in which she's really leading the charge all by herself. In a new trailer for the Joe Lynch-directed flick, Hayek kicks plenty of ass and lays waste to wave after wave of bad guys who are coming to take her money. The setting looks very self-contained, which could make for some cool creative moments from Lynch and his team. The new trailer reveals more footage than we saw in the first one, and this is definitely going to be a must-see movie for action fans in 2015.

Everly debuts on iTunes and On Demand on January 23rd, 2015, before it hits theaters on February 27th. Thanks to Apple for the trailer.

Jaw-Dropping Animated War Short - CONFUSION THROUGH SAND

With everything shifting more and more into the digital age, it's increasingly rare to find filmmakers still working on hand-drawn animation in the old-school, flipbook-style method. But that's exactly what the folks at Ornana Films did for their new short film Confusion Through Sand, and the results are absolutely stunning. (We actually featured the trailer for this project nearly a year ago, but now the full project is online for all to see.)

Here's the brief synopsis:

A nineteen year old kid finds himself alone in a hostile desert, scared as hell and trained to react.

I haven't seen American Sniper yet, but I'm hoping that it has the same level of suspense as this does.

After you watch the video, you might be thinking the same thing I did: I wish I could have seen how they worked on this. Well, we're in luck, because they've also posted a behind-the-scenes video, which I'll embed below the short. Thanks to Benjamin Wiessner for sending this our way, and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below.

IMAX has released a trailer promoting HBO's Game of Thrones big screen IMAX event, which debuts on January 29th! There are two episodes that will be shown, and they include “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children.” Not only does the trailer promote the IMAX event, but it also offers a brief tease for the upcoming fifth season.

Game of Thrones is the first TV series to be shown in IMAX theaters, and you'll have the opportunity to see it through February 5th. It will also include the worldwide debut of an exclusively created full trailer for Season 5, which is set to premiere on HBO April 12th at 9 pm. If you're a Game of Thrones fan, this is an event that you won't want to miss. Check out the awesome posters you could win at the IMAX screenings, too!

Honest Trailer for The PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Franchise

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Honest Trailer series. I just don't find them that funny. But it doesn't seem fair to not put something on the site simply because I personally don't like it. I know a lot of you guys dig these videos, and it's clear that the team at ScreenJunkies puts a lot of work into them, so I figured I'd showcase their latest one here anyway and use it as an excuse to launch into a conversation about this franchise as a whole.

Some things this video gets right:

  • Johnny Depp isn't nearly as interesting as he used to be.
  • The first movie was legitimately good.
  • I also completely forgot they made a fourth film.

Does anyone really want to see more of this franchise, aside from the people who will directly profit from it? I don't think audiences are begging for more, and though I'm happy that the directors of the little-seen Kon-Tiki have the chance to step into blockbuster territory with the upcoming fifth film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, I'm not-so-secretly hoping this project falls apart and those guys get to go make another big movie elsewhere.

Ben Affleck's Batman Might Appear in SUICIDE SQUAD to Set up Batman Vs. Joker

A couple of days ago some potential plot details leaked for David Ayer's Suicide Squad, and now there is an even more interesting rumor that you're gonna want to hear. According to ForbesBen Affleck's Batman could appear in the movie, and his appearance will set up a solo film in which he will face off against Jared Leto's The Joker.

We've already heard that Batman will briefly appear on video monitors, but it sounds like his inclusion is going to be bigger than that. Apparently, The Dark Knight will show up at the end of the movie when The Joker escapes from prison, and this could essentially be the start of a Batman Vs. Joker movie. The site reports that it "will take some inspiration from Frank Miller’s comic book series The Dark Knight Returns — the third issue of which is a story about Batman facing off against an escaped Joker. I’m also told that Gotham City Police Commissioner Ellen Yindel (who replaces James Gordon during the comic book story) is planned for inclusion in the film." That seems to go along with some previous reports that Gordon is not a part of the DC cinematic universe.

That third issue features the Joker waking up from a catatonic state and escaping from Arkham Asylum. He ends up killing an entire talk show audience with some deadly balloons and then goes on the rampage at a fairground.

Now, none of this recent information has been confirmed, so we will treat this as a rumor for the time being. But it would be freakin' cool to see Batman and The Joker go head to head again in a new movie. We'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. We'll find out on August 5th, 2016 when the movie is released.

Would you like this rumor to be true?

David Duchovny Is Excited to Return as Fox Mulder in X-FILES Limited Series

This last weekend news broke that FOX is in discussions to bring back Chris Carter's The X-Files as a limited series. There was no word on whether David Duchovny or Gillian Anderson would reprise their roles at the time of the initial report, but the network wants them to come back.

It looks like if this all goes through though, Duchovny is ready to return as Fox Mulder! The actor recently talked to USA Today and said that he’s “more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with [co-star] Gillian [Anderson] and [series creator] Chris [Carter].” He added:

“I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many [episodes]. Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season.”

As a long time fan of The X-Files, I'll take whatever I can get! This is really exciting for me and a lot of other fans out there. It looks like the stars are aligning for this limited series, and it could actually happen! If it does, I can't wait to see what story they will tell. I'll keep you updated on any new developments.

What would you like to see in the series return?

We’ve seen a lot of cool fan art for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but this piece featuring the villain Kylo Ren looks so menacing and badass. It was created by James Whynot, and he makes this mysterious character look like someone you really wouldn’t want to mess with. One of my favorite aspects of the piece is how wild and energetic it is.

Will The Grey "Savage Hulk" Show Up in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON?

Thanks to a promotional image for a line of Funko Pop! Vinyl toys for Avengers: Age of Ultron, it looks like there may be a chance that we'll see the grey "Savage Hulk" in the film. The photo above comes from PopVinyls.com, and as you can see, the grey-skinned Hulk is featured in the line-up with the rest of the Avengers characters that we'll see in the film, including newcomers Vision and Ultron.

This is the first time that anything has hinted at grey Hulk appearing in the movie. As you can see, the figure has the red eyes, just like we saw in the trailer. Maybe this is just a variant figure based on the comics, but why would it be included in the Age of Ultron toy line-up? Do you think it's possible that he will show up in the movie?

New Story Details and Title of THE WALKING DEAD Spinoff Series Revealed

new-story-details-and-title-revealed-for-the-walking-dead-spinoff-series

Thanks to Bleeding Cool, we have some new information regarding AMC's upcoming spinoff series for The Walking Dead. They managed to get ahold of the script for the pilot episode, and it has been confirmed that the series will be called Fear the Walking Dead, not Cobalt as previously reported.

We have some additional story details on the series as well, and they confirm rumors that the series will be a prequel set in the time where the zombie outbreak is in its very early stages. If you don't want to know any more than that, turn back now because there are SPOILERS from here on out.

The pilot was written by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, and when the series starts out the zombie outbreak is being treated as a rumor or urban legend. No one really actually believes that it's happening, but of course, it turns out that everything is true.

The script pages, which have since been removed from the site, feature characters discussing the outbreak while watching footage of zombie attacks on an iPad. The report had this to say about the script and the angle of the series:

"Because the dead are coming, An urban legend, underground, being spread from person to person. It plays the fact tat [sic] we, the audience, know far more about what’s going on than anything else does and keeps teasing us toward the inevitable, in much the same way that Gotham does, but in the knowledge that it’s going to be over far sooner."

They also report that the pilot introduces us to a dysfunctional family at the center of all the madness. They describe the family as follows:

"...an older one than Rick’s, here are a mother and a soon-to-be-stepfather, teachers Madison and Travis, and their older teenage children, Alicia and Ian, Travis’ ex Liza and their teenage son Christopher, in a family about to break apart. Drugs, illness, self-harm, set in Los Angeles, this is not so much a nuclear family as a dirty bomb. Rick’s family were torn apart, this family are there from the beginning."

I really like the setting of the new series, and it seems like it's going to make for an intense series. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out! Kirkman said this about it in a previous interview:

“We want it to be a new show that can stand on its own. You could watch The Walking Dead spinoff if you’ve never watched an episode of The Walking Dead and get a really great, rich, fulfilling experience out of it. It has to be a show that can stand on its own. I think that’s what we’ve accomplished, and we start filming in a couple of days. I’m really excited.
"It’s Los Angeles. It’s a corner of the world that we have never explored in the comic book series. So, theoretically, something like this could be happening in Los Angeles in the comic book series, but we don’t show you this area of the country in the comic book series. So it fits within that world, but it is all new characters, all new events and all kinds of crazy stuff.”

Rad Official X-Wing Art for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Some incredibly cool art has surfaced for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and they feature the awesome new X-Wing designs that will be used in the film. Although I guess they aren't really "new," as they are based on previous designs for the original Star Wars films created by Ralph McQuarrie.

The art was posted by artist Robert Bailey, who is a licensed Star Wars and Disney artist. The names of the two pieces you see here are "Attacking Force" and "Low Level Attack." One of them was obviously inspired by the scene in the trailer. Or was the scene in the trailer inspired by the art? Either way it's still incredibly cool-looking!

Apparently, George Lucas came across Bailey’s aviation art website and liked his work so much that he asked him to work on Star Wars. That must have been a pretty awesome day for the artist!

Tatiana Maslany, Rooney Mara, and Felicity Jones Auditioning For STAR WARS Spin-Off

$

0

Just last week, writer Gary Whitta completed his draft of Godzilla director Gareth Edwards' upcoming Star Wars spin-off film and left the project to pursue other work. Now casting for the film is revving up, and THR reports that Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake headliner Rooney Mara are auditioning for the female lead. Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Theory of Everything) is also supposedly on the studio's "want list," but there could be a scheduling conflict with Ron Howard's Da Vinci Code sequel, Inferno, which is shooting this spring and summer. The untitled Star Wars project would presumably need to get rolling about that same time, considering it already has a release date of December 16th, 2016.

The report says that Maslany is currently testing for the role, while Mara and "a handful of others" will audition this week. Both actresses would fit well in the Star Wars universe, but it's tough to speculate about who would be a better fit because story and character details are so secretive. (Jones doesn't seem like she belongs in a galaxy far, far away, but I'd love for her to surprise all of us with an amazing performance if she does get cast.) The rumor is that the plot of Edwards' spin-off film will focus on a heist to retrieve the plans for the Death Star, but that hasn't been officially confirmed by Disney/Lucasfilm.

Also worth noting: /Film reported that Simon Kinberg, who is co-writing the other Star Wars spin-off with Lawrence Kasdan (that one will be directed by Chronicle and Fantastic Four helmer Josh Trank), would take over Whitta's job writing the script as this project moves forward, but THR refutes that claim.

Sources, however, say that while Kinberg is creatively involved in Star Wars in an overall manner, there are no plans for him to take over. Kinberg is additionally crafting the X-Men universe, writing the X-Men: Apocalypse script for Fox and overseeing the upcoming Fantastic Four reshoots for which he did the rewrites.

I'm not quite sure who to believe when it comes to the script work on this one, but I guess the truth will present itself soon enough. In the meantime, let us know who you'd like to see star in this upcoming spin-off in the comments below.
