J.J. Abrams Casts Greg Grunberg in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

Hey look! It's Star Wars news the doesn't include set photos! J.J. Abrams and Greg Grunberg (Heroes) have a long history together. The two are childhood friends who made home movies together in the late seventies. That grew into a professional relationship and Abrams cast him in Felicity, Alias, and a TV pilot called The Catch. As far as films go, the actor had a small role in MIssion: Impossible III, he provided the voice of Kirk's stepdad in Star Trek, was a TV actor in the background of Super 8, and now he's going to show up in Star Wars: Episode VII. Grunberg confirmed the news himself on Twitter saying:

"Yes @smgulz it IS safe to assume I have a role in #StarWarsEpisodeVII - If I say more than that, JJ will have me killed."

It's also safe to assume that Grunberg's role won't be a big one. It's cool that Abrams includes him in his projects when he can though.

STAR WARS Parody from SESAME STREET - "Star S'Mores"

There's been a ton of Star Wars: Episode VII news recently, but here's a little something different and amusing that I'm sure you'll enjoy. It's a Sesame Street Star Wars parody called, "Star S'Mores." To teach self-control, Only One Cannoli tells Flan Solo to "Use the Four," which is a simple counting trick to keep him from eating his sidekick Chewie the Cookie. Seriously… it's awesome.

A long time ago in a cookies and milky way galaxy far, far away...Princess Parfaita was taken prisoner by the evil Galactic Empire and had to be saved by a group of unlikely heroes including the young Luke Piewalker, Flan Solo, and Chewie the Cookie.

Ya gotta love Sesame Street and their great movie parody skits.

MARRIED... WITH CHILDREN Spin-Off Series in the Works

It's been about 20 years since the Married… With Children sitcom ended, but Bud Bundy is all grown up and might just return for a spin-off series! I watched this show all the time when it was on the air and I thought it was the funniest show.

The series launched the careers of Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate, and David Faustino. The new series is being developed at Sony Pictures Television and it will center on Faustino's Bud Bundy character. There's no word on if the actor will be reprising his role in the new show, or if any of the other original cast members will be involved in the potential spin-off, but at this point there's a chance any of them could.

Married… With Children was was created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt. It was one of the first original series on the Fox network, and it ran for 11 seasons from 1987-1997.

As for the original cast, O'Neill currently stars on ABC's hilarious comedy series Modern Family. Applegate has done a ton of films and TV series in her career. Sagal's recent project is Sons of Anarchy, which is currently is wrapping up the final season on FX. Then there's Faustino, the least successful of the bunch. He recently reunited with O'Neill on Modern Family.

If this new series did get a pilot order and go through, I'd be excited to watch it.

I'm not a cat guy. I don't care what you say, those animals are always up to no good. However, cats would definitely be a lot more lovable if they dressed up and walked around in Medieval battle armor. The photo above features Battle Cat, and I couldn't help but laugh when I saw it. This latest photo from The Walking Dead Season 5 features Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) with a stone-cold look on his face. That's the look of a man who feels like he's losing his soul. The series is set to return on October 12th, and I'm excited and nervous to see what it's going to bring us.

Sacrificial Horror Movie Short - THE OFFERING

Today we have a fantastically tense horror short for you to watch called "The Offering," which tells the tale of an unexpected sacrifice to a demonic creature.

A father and son travel deep into the woods to make an offering to a mysterious force. When they realize that a key element is missing, they must improvise before time runs out.

The film was directed by Ryan Patch and it has some of that wonderful old-school horror storytelling that I enjoy. The story is a slow burn, but it's told very well. The characters are developed really nicely in such a short period of time, and there are also some great shots.

Gotham City Police Arrest a Stormtrooper in Set Photo from Zack Snyder

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder is still having fun with his Star Wars mashups in a running joke he started that brings two worlds together. This latest one includes the Gotham City Police arresting a Stormtrooper. Looks like the Stormtrooper was  taking a joyride in the Batmobile. Yesterday a rumor hit the net that the Batmobile had been stolen from the set of the film. It's not true, and this photo amusingly makes fun of the rumor. The caption that came with the photo is, "Case closed." In case you can't tell, the cop standing by the Batmobile is holding the Stormtrooper's blaster.

Trailer for Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence's SERENA

Serena is a long delayed film that stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence who both starred together in director David O. Russell’s The Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. The movie has been stuck in the post-production process for awhile. Hell, we got our first look at the film two years ago! We've now just gotten the first trailer. These two talents have great on-screen chemistry, and it looks like they give great performances in this film as well. Here's the synopsis:

North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s – George and Serena Pemberton, love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George’s hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pembertons’ passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic reckoning.

Apparently the reason the movie took so long to finish is because the director of the film, Susanne Bier, is a perfectionist. There's no U.S. release date for the movie yet, but it will be released in the UK on October 24th.

Kevin Smith Discusses His Horror Film TUSK in Featurette

kevin-smith-discusses-his-horror-film-tusk-in-featurette

In this featurette for Tusk, writer and director Kevin Smith talks about his insane looking new horror film and how the idea and production came together. It's actually really interesting to see how it all came together, and it happened so fast. The video also includes footage from the film and the set.

Wallace (Justin Long) co-hosts a popular podcast with his pal Teddy (Haley Joel Osment), focusing on cruel, mocking cringe humour as part of their mission to keep it “real and raunchy.” After his trip to Winnipeg to interview the “Kill Bill Kid” — a teen whose unfortunate samurai-sword video has gone viral — comes up empty, Wallace decides to make the trip worth his while and find a good story north of the forty-ninth parallel. A handwritten flyer he finds in a bar bathroom leads him to a grizzled old swab (Michael Parks) full of tall tales to share from his life of adventure at sea — and this is where Wallace’s voyage to the Great White North descends into straight-up madness.

The movie screened at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month, and the reviews that I've seen have been good. It hits theaters on September 19th.

Here's a series of Norman Rockwell inspired "Saturday Evening Post" cover art that features some classic DC Comics heroes and villains. The art was created by DeviantArt user OnlyMilo a.k.a. Ruiz Burgos, and they include Wonder Woman, Clark Kent, Zatanna, Joker, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. I like coming across Rockwell style superhero art like this. It just gives these characters a cool, classy vintage tone. I hope you like this set!

Trailer for Chris Evans' RomCom PLAYING IT COOL

Chris Evans doesn't just play Captain America in the Marvel movies. He also likes to star in quirky little romantic comedies. We've got a trailer for his upcoming flick Playing It Cool, and his Captain America: The Winter Soldier co-star Anthony Mackie is in it, too. The movie also features Michelle MonaghanAubrey Plaza, Topher Grace, Luke Wilson, Philip Baker Hall, Giovanni Ribisi, and Martin Starr.

This is the story of ME (Evans), a young man disillusioned by love, who meets a breathtaking young woman, HER (Monaghan), at a charity dinner by pretending to be a philanthropist. Only one problem: she’s engaged. Yet, he engages into a platonic relationship to be able to keep seeing her. Like a young Walter Mitty using the power of imagination and wild vignettes, HE will stop at nothing to conquer HER heart.

Playing it Cool looks like an entertaining movie that I'd take my wife out to go see. The movie was directed by Justin Reardon back in 2012, and we still have yet to see a release date.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Standalone Film in the Works?

Lucasfilm and Disney have plans to pump out a lot of Star Wars movies. On top of the new trilogy, they are also developing standalone films set in the Star Wars universe. We'll eventually be seeing at least two Star Wars movies released a year. None of the titles of the standalone films have officially been announced yet, but we've heard that they might involve Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Yoda. It makes sense that those characters would get their own films. You know what other character makes sense? Obi-Wan Kenobi. I just assumed one day that character would get his own flick, and now, according to a source from Making Star Wars, the movie is in development. Here's what they say:

"Obi-Wan Kenobi – I’ve heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I’m hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie."

The official site voting mentioned there is the This is Madness Tournament, and Kenobi was voted the top Star Wars character. That's because Obi-Wan is a freakin' badass. I'm sure Lucasfilm is in early development on several other standalone Star Wars movies as well, just like Marvel is with many of their unannounced films.

About a year ago Ewan McGregor said that he'd be open to reprising the role and even offered up an idea for the story. He said,

"I think it's a good idea. The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, 'Episode III,' before Alec Guinness [played Obi-Wan in the original films], there's that period where he's in the desert.

"That might be my window, there, to tell that story. I don't know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff. Could be quite exciting. I'd be up for it, for sure, of course."

I just love the idea of an old-school style Star Wars western with Obi-Wan as the main character. I hope that one day we will see an Obi-Wan movie, and if it happens, it will be interesting to see what story they tell.

STAR WARS REBELS: New Full Trailer and TV Spots

$

The premiere of Star Wars Rebels is less than a month away, so today we have a new full trailer and a few TV spots, including one that features R2-D2 and a bit of C3PO. I'm a big fan of The Clone Wars and excited to see a lot of the same creative team involved in Rebels, although it seems like they have a lot more money for Rebels than they did for Clone Wars. It will be interesting to see how this bridges Episode III, IV, and beyond.

Star Wars Rebels premieres on Disney XD, October 13th.
