Terminator: Salvation director McG is producing a feature film biopic based on the life of children's book author, cartoonist, and poet Shel Silverstein. The movie will be an adaptation of the book, A Boy Named Shel: The Life and Times of Shel Silverstein, which was written by Lisa Rogak.
According to the report, the book "explores the personal and professional struggles that made Silverstein, who died in 1999, a unique voice." For those of you not familiar with what he's done, some of the books he wrote include The Giving Tree, and poetry collections Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic. He also wrote songs such as Johnny Cash’s A Boy Named Sue as well as Dr. Hook’s The Cover of Rolling Stone.
I grew up reading Silverstein's stuff, I absolutely loved his stories and poems. They made me laugh and also provided great entertainment. I don't know much about what his personal life was like, but I'll gladly watch it play out in the form of a movie.
Warner Bros. has released six more high resolution photos from George Miller's badass looking movie Max Max: Fury Road. I know Mel Gibson isn't in this one, but it still looks like it's going to be an insanely cool flick. I love the look and tone that I've seen in the images that have been released, and you can't deny that Tom Hardy looks great in the role of Max Rocksteady. The photos also include Charlize Theron looking tough as hell as Furiosa, an unrecognizable Nicholas Hoult as Nux, Courtney Eaton as Fragile, and Riley Keough as Capable. The first footage from this movie will be unveiled at Comic-Con this week, and I'm really excited about seeing what they have to show off!
Marvel has released a fun five minute clip from James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Most of it features our heroes going through the intergalactic prison system, and they are also prepping for their escape. It recently aired on the USA Channel, and of course it includes a lot of new footage that you haven't seen yet. The movie comes out on August 1st, and it's going to be grrrrreat! I've also included an IMAX featurette for you to watch!

It looks like Mondo is getting into the toy business now! They've just revealed their Iron Giant action figure, which is a must have for any collector and lover of this brilliant animated movie. This is one of several toys that they will be releasing. They are also going to release figures for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Alfred Hitchcock. Mondo is doing toys! The launch of figures for The Iron Giant, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Alfred Hitchcock are Mondo's first foray into toy collectibles, with the subjects and diversity of design reflecting Mondo's unique passions. The initial offerings include replicas as well as toys from artist-based designs, which can be previewed at San Diego Comic-Con in Mondo's booth (#835).
Toys join Mondo's growing list of pop culture passions in posters, vinyl, gallery events, VHS and apparel. "I am so pumped to announce toys! We've been working on this in secrecy for a year and now it's time to let you guys know about it. We'll be focusing on existing properties that we love as well as working with artists to bring their own creations to life. This is a new area for us, but I resist the term 'expansion' since the goal for Mondo has always been to be a place where artists and designers can work to have their visions realized, whether that's through posters, gallery shows, vinyl, apparel or now toys," said Mondo CEO Justin Ishmael.
THE IRON GIANT
Celebrating its 15th anniversary, The Iron Giant has reaped praise as being among the greatest animated films ever made (recently ranked #7 on Time Out's 100 Best Animated Movies list) and it was important for Mondo to honor the film with an appropriately stunning collectible.
The Iron Giant Collectible Figure
The 16" tall figure will have over 30 points of articulation, light features, and other fun surprises! Accompanying The Iron Giant will be a Hogarth figure, scraps of metal for him to munch on and a Seafood sign that has a removable "S" to put on his chest. He will also include an interchangeable head and gun attachment, giving a choice of displaying the figure as the regular version, or the "War" version! The figure was designed from the actual CG files used in the film, for ultimate accuracy.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
The First Turtle Vinyl Figure
This vinyl figure is based off of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator Kevin Eastman'svery first drawing of a "Ninja Turtle," which formed the basis of the popular comic. Struggling artists Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird came up with the Turtles in November 1983 while living in North Hampton, Massachusetts and the spark came from this drawing, which Eastman drew initially as a joke featuring a bi-pedal turtle with nunchucks and a mask. The figure stands 6" tall, and features a classic black and white paint design, based on the original art!
Lil Mikey Vinyl Figure
This will be Mondo's first toy based on a design from an artist that they work with frequently. Mike Mitchell has a series of pop culture characters called "Just Like Us" and this toy is based on his design in that series for Michelangelo. Turtle fans and people of a particular age will note the accuracy of the real TMNT ice cream on a popsicle stick.
The "Lil Mikey" figure reflects Mondo's goal to have many of its toys based on artist designs in addition to replicas.
"If I had $5 when I was a kid, it was going to be spent on a ninja turtle figure. So much of my childhood was defined by TMNT, I watched every episode, I had the toys, the shirts, the games, the comics. I wish I could say "Lil Mikey" was a dream come true, but I never could have fathomed this happening. I am so extremely excited about this figure, and I can't wait to show it off at SDCC," said artist Mike Mitchell.
HITCHCOCK 1/6 Scale figure
The worlds most famous director is immortalized in this 1/6 scale figure, which features an authentic likeness, his directors chair, clapboard, cigars, as well as props from his most famous films- a butcher knife, a raven, and a seagull! HBO has released this a new TV spot for the fifth and final season of their great series Boardwalk Empire. This is such an amazing series, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes to an end.
From Terence Winter, Emmy-winning writer of The Sopranos and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, Boardwalk Empire is set in the 1920s during Prohibition, and chronicles the life and times of Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, the undisputed leader of Atlantic City.
The show is set to premiere on Sunday, September 7th at 9 p.m.
A new promo clip from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been released called Legend of the Yokai. It give us a new interesting mystical background on Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. It seems in this version of the story they may not have been the first of their kind. What I like about this clip is that the story of the legend is told in the style of motion comics, and the art used in it is really beautiful stuff.
Lucasfilm has released an extremely cool full trailer for Star Wars Rebels. I've been excited for this since it was first announced, and this trailer shows off an animated series that is really going to be spectacular. The studio will be promoting the show at their Comic-Con panel taking place on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Room 6BCF.
Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. The clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost is amongst a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.
The series will premiere in the fall as a one-hour special on Disney Channel. That debut will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.
Batman is having more fun than he's ever had in this illustration of him taking an adventurous joy ride in the The General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard. I bet that Batman would trade in his Batmobile any day for this car. In case you were wondering, Batman is flying over the Grand Canyon in the image. The art was done by David Branstetter, as part of CBR's The Line is Drawn.
According to TV Guide, Former Xena star Lucy Lawless will be joining the cast of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They don't offer any details on who she will play, or how many episodes she'll be in, but there's no doubt she'll make a great fit in this universe.
More details will be revealed on her character at the “Marvel Television Presents” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 25th, in Ballroom 20 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. If you aren't able to make the panel, no worries… we've got your back, and will deliver any information on the character that we learn from the panel.
It's going to be really interesting to see where they take the series next season. The second half of season two was pretty awesome. Hopefully they can keep that greatness rolling into next season.
The second season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere Tuesday, September 23.
It seems as though the Cybermen villains from Doctor Who are going to be giving Peter Capaldi a hard time as the 12th Doctor in the upcoming 8th season of the show. It also looks like the show's storytellers will be bringing them back to some familiar territory.
There's a classic image from the older version of the series that features an army of Cybermen marching down the steps of St. Paul's in the episode "The Invasion." Judging by these photos that were released on BBC's Doctor Who Twitter account, the villains will be doing it again.
The photos were taken over the weekend while they were shooting, and they show the Cybermen standing guard in front of St. Paul's. There's also a great photo of two Cybermen giving each other a fist bump,
The UK television streaming service Blink Box released this great Game of Thrones advertisement featuring a couple of dragons attacking a golfer in the middle of his game. This is actually a guy being attacked by swans, but the swans were brilliantly replaced with dragons, and the outcome is really funny. I love how the guy is playfully laughing as the dragon keeps coming after him.
If you didn't watch the first season of Fargo on FX, you really missed out on an incredible show. If you have On Demand, I suggest you binge watch that shit! As a testament to how good this series actually was, it was nominated for 18 freakin' Emmy Award nominations.
According to THR, the series will be back for a new "true crime" story of 10 episodes, and it will have an all-new cast of characters and take place during a new time period. FX CEO John Landgraf had this to say in regards to Noah Hawley's anthology series:
"We could not be more proud of Fargo. Noah's audacious, bordering on hubristic riff on my favorite Coen brothers film earned 18 Emmy nominations — the most for a single program in our history. Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking, and we look forward to the next installment."
The plan is to reboot the series every season the same way that the horror anthology series American Horror Story works. Season 2 will most likely premiere in the fall of 2015.
According to The Wrap, the new season will be set in 1979 and will follow a younger version of Lou Solverson, the character played by Keith Carradine in the first season, as he returns from the Vietnam War. Executive Produce Noah Hawley had this to say:
“It gets hard to look past the actors. I like the idea that the character comes first and the actors are able to disappear into the role… That time period is really interesting in American history; post-Vietnam, post-Watergate, just before Ronald Reagan became President.”
Hawley goes on to say that while the first season was largely influenced artistically by No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man and Fargo, the new season is inspired by Miller's Crossing and The Man who Wasn't There.
I can't wait to see what they have in store for Season 2. I will say that it's going to be hard to top what was done for Season 1.
We've got the first teaser trailer for writer and director James Merendino's Punk's Dead: SLC Punk 2, and it brings back Heroin Bob (Michael A. Goorjan). He's still dead, but he does play a part in the story that's being told. The film focuses on Ross (Ben Schnetzer), the son Bob had with Trish. Bob seems to be narrating the film from his grave.
Merendino went into a little more detail about the story in an interview saying:
“It’s about him interacting in this world with a much sharper point of view than even Stevo. He’s sort of a goth kid. He’s not mired by having to say he’s a punk rocker. I don’t know what else to say. I could give away more spoilers but then who’s gonna want to see the movie?”
Here's what the director had to say about the teaser that was released (via: The Wrap):
“In this teaser, you will get a glimpse at familiar faces and I briefly introduce Bob's son, Ross. I am not revealing all of the characters or even much of the story. There's more, much more. Enjoy.”
The movie also brings some of the old gang back together including Devon Sawa, Adam Pascal, and James Duval. I'm a huge fan of the first film, and I can't wait to watch the sequel.
The Tumbler from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy is getting an Ultimate Collectors Edition LEGO set! The LEGO Tumbler was announced on USA Today, it includes 1,869 pieces and will cost you $199. It will go on sale September. A full trailer has been released for writer and director Justin Simien's Sundance hit, Dear White People. I've heard a lot of fantastic things about this movie, which is a comedic satire about race relations in modern America. I really like the humor that I'm seeing in the trailer, and this looks like a really entertaining movie worth checking out. Here's a synopsis for the movie:

Lionsgate is in the process of developing their feature film adaptation of Power Rangers. Roberto Orci (Star Trek Into Darkness) is an executive producer on the project, and Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor) are currently writing the script.
IGN had an opportunity to speak with Orci about the film, and he talked about how it will connect to the original series:
"One of the first things we did was learn and read... They have 600 pages of research that they have on their stuff. We read through the synopsis of everything they did and we are actually taking into account quite a bit of the canon in a real way. We're not just a leave it behind reboot. [Haim] Saban cares very much about that. This is something that he created. I had to go to his house, personally, to tell him, 'Listen, I'm your man. Miller and Stenz, these are your guys. I promise you I won't ruin your franchise.' It's very important to me, because kids around the world know what the Power Rangers are. So you can't just come in here and walk all over it. It better be consistent with what I've been doing. And I said, 'Yes sir!'"
So basically the new film will exist in the continuity of the original series, which is great! Orci went on to explain:
"It's got a continuity within the world. I can't tell you what, but it does have a continuity."
The Power Rangers have such a huge following, and even if this movie isn't done right it's still destined to make ridiculous amounts of money. Hopefully they do do it right though, and it sounds like they will. Who do you think should direct the movie?
Comic artist Alex Ross has created a series of four pieces of poster art inspired by the original 1960s version of Planet of the Apes. The art is based on covers of the Boom Studios Comic book Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm. They’ll be available for purchase at San Diego Comic-Con through Acme Archives.
Each of them are a 17 x 22 inch giclee in a limited edition of 168. They will cost $145 each and $195 for #4. You will be able to first buy them at booth 5629 in Hall B on the main floor at Comic Con. The will go on sale at the link above on July 28th.

Director Edgar Wright has zeroed in on his next film project. Fans have been wondering what he would do next after he left Marvel's Ant-Man. The movie is called Baby Driver, and he'll be developing it for Working Title Films.
Deadline describes movie as a "collision of crime, action, music and sound." It definitely sounds like an Edgar Write flick. There's no other information on it at this time, and it doesn’t seem like Nick Frost or Simon Pegg are going to be a part of it.
The project is apparently in the fast track to production, and I can't wait to see what Wright is cooking up for it.
Last week, we got our first look at the main cast in the upcoming retro video game character invasion film Pixels. That cast consists of Peter Dinklage, Adam Sandler, Josh Gad, and Michelle Monaghan. The movie is based on a short film of the same name, and it has the potential to make for an incredibly entertaining feature film.
Sony Pictures has announced the line-up of video games and characters that will be included in the movie, and it's actually really quite impressive. Below you'll find a press released with the story synopsis and the list of characters that you'll see in the movie:
In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, '80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team's unique weapons specialist. The action-comedy is directed by Chris Columbus from a story by Tim Herlihy and a screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, based on the original short film of the same name by Patrick Jean. At Comic-Con San Diego, from July 24-27, arcaders 13 years of age and older with Comic-Con badges will have the chance to engage with many of these classic original arcade games and try them out again as the studio features a Pixels Electric Dreams Factory arcade at the Hard Rock Hotel, 209 5th Ave., San Diego.
"There's no better way for the core Comic-Con audience to interact with the movie than to get a hands-on refresher on the games that will be a part of it," said Dwight Caines, president, Theatrical Marketing for Sony Pictures.
The Christopher Columbus-directed movie will be released on May 15, 2015.
