transformers-5-ben-hur-hansel-gretel-2-and-more-coming-2016

There's a lot going on over at Paramount Pictures. It was revealed recently at CineEurope by Paramount's International svp, EMEA Edward Ryan that their 2016 schedule will include Transformers 5, Beverly Hills Cop 4G.I. Joe 3, Star Trek 3, and Hansel and Gretel 2. He also says that Paranormal Activity 5 will be pushed to that year, and that they will be releasing the remake of Ben Hur as well, which is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov.

We knew a fifth Transformers movie was going to eventually happen, there's going to be another one after that too. In fact most of the films mentioned here we knew were coming, but now we know what year we can expect them. The newest news in this article is the fact that they are actually moving forward with Hansel and Gretel 2. We were also reminded that a Ben Hur remake is actually happening.

I assume that Hansel and Gretel 2 will involve more witch hunting. There's no word on if Jeremy Renner or Gemma Arterton will reprise their roles. The first movie was absurd but enjoyable. Out of all the films listed here, which are you most excited about?

Jason Momoa Continues to Play Coy about Aquaman

Actor Jason Momoa has given his first interview since it's been confirmed that he's playing Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of the Justice. He appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and when asked about the role he continued to play coy saying that it was still all just "a rumor" and that we'd just have to "wait and see." It's interesting that he still won't admit that he's playing Aquaman. I imagine he's either under contract not to reveal anything, or he's still in the negotiation process, and his involvement still isn't officially set in stone. Whatever the case is, I like the idea of Momoa playing Aquaman! He definitely has what it takes to make the character a badass. The movie is set to be released on May 6th, 2016.

A trailer and poster has been released for Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall's fantastic looking film The Judge. This has been a passion project for Downey Jr. who had this to say about it on his Twitter feed:

"This is the kind of movie I grew up wanting to make. Only took 49 years. Enjoy."

This sure looks like it's going to be a solid flick, and the all the actors in the film look like they're going to give incredible performances. I'm glad that Downey Jr. finally got to make this movie.

He play's a big city lawyer named Hank Palmer, "who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge (Duvall), is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before."

The movie is set to be released in theaters October 10th, 2014.

Trailer for Viggo Mortenson's Thriller THE TWO FACES OF JANUARY

The Two Faces of January has the makings of a pretty fantastic movie. It's based on the book by Patricia Highsmith, who is the author of The Talented Mr. Ripley. It was written and directed by Hossein Amini, who is the guy that wrote Drive. It has an incredible cast that includes Viggo Mortensen, Oscar Isaac, and Kirsten Dunst. The movie has been getting solid reviews while screening at the festivals, and this trailer sold me on it.

The story is set in Greece and Istanbul in the year 1962, it follows a couple of wealthy American tourists named Chester MacFarland (Mortensen) and his young wife Collete (Dunst). They meet an "American expat Rydal (Isaac), a scammer working as a tour guide. Instead of becoming his latest marks, the two befriend him, but a murder at the couple’s hotel puts all three on the run together and creates a precarious bond between them as the trio’s allegiance is put to the test."

The Two Faces of January hits VOD on August 25th and theaters on September 26th.

Matt Damon Coming Back for BOURNE 5?!

It was reported earlier this week that Universal Pictures pushed the release date of director Justin Lin's Bourne 5 to July 15th, 2016. According to the initial report from THR, "the move was made so that the August 2014 date could be used for Straight Outta Compton, the upcoming film about the rise and fall of gangsta rap pioneers N.W.A."

Latino Review now has some intel that claims that report was given to throw people off what was really going on. A source very close to the production is telling the site that the real reason for the delay is because Matt Damon is coming back to reprise his role as Jason Bourne! How freakin' awesome is that!? This is a complete surprise, as Damon has said several times that he would only do it if Paul Greengrass was going to direct. This is one of the statements he made:

"I've always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director. We've just never been able to come up with a story. So if any of your viewers have a story, please call Universal and submit it. It felt like such a good way to end it the last time... But having said that, I love that character and I'd love to see what happened to him."

Apparently Lin, who is the director of the the Fast and Furious films, was able to talk him into coming back to the franchise. I'm so happy that he did, and I'm ecstatic that Damon may have actually had a change of heart.

This rumor is sure to be denied by studio reps, but El Mayimbe from Latino-Review says,

"Now with all due respect to Bourne's legendary producer Frank Marshall who is vocal and active on twitter, especially when it comes to debunking scoops, instead of denying my story I have a proposition. I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is and place a friendly bet with him that come July 15, 2016 we will see Matt Damon as Jason Bourne once again… I believe a source who never had a reason to bullshit me over the studio publicity machine any day of the week."

So there you go! It looks like Damon will be back to kick ass as Jason Bourne, and because of that, I'm actually really excited for this movie.

A new trailer has been released for the action adventure Norwegian film Ragnarok, and it looks like it's going to make for a really fun summer flick. The story revolves around a group of explorers who go in search for a legendary treasure, and in the process come across a mythical monstrous sea creature. The movie was directed by Mikkel Sandemose and it stars Pål Sverre Hagen (Kon-Tiki) and Sofia Helin. Here's the synopsis:

Archeologist Sigurd Svendsen (Pål Sverre Hagen) has for years been obsessed with the Oseberg Viking ship. The only inscription found on the ship is the enigmatic ´man knows little` written in runes. Sigurd is sure that the Oseberg ship contains the answer to the mystery of Ragnarok, the end of days in Norse mythology. When his friend Allan finds similar runes on a stone from the north of Norway, Sigurd becomes convinced that the runes are in fact a treasure map. Together they mount an expedition group and their adventure leads to “No man’s Land” between Norway and Russia, which has been deserted for decades. Here Sigurd learns the true meaning of the runes – a secret more terrifying than he could possibly imagine.

The movie is set to be released on August 15th.

Thanks to Syfy's The Wil Wheaton Project, we have an amusing Game of Thrones title sequence reimagined in the style of the Brady Bunch. It's got that annoyingly catchy tune that's going to get stuck in your head as soon as you watch the video. It was rewritten of course to breakdown the family situation on Game of Thrones.

The first season of the Breaking Bad spin-off series Better Call Saul won't even premiere until 2015, but AMC has already renewed the series for a second season! The first season of the show has ten episodes, and the second will get thirteen.

Breaking Bad creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan is directing the first episode, in which Bob Odenkirk reprises his role as the conniving New Mexican criminal lawyer. You can see the first photo from the set of the production above. AMC president Charlie Collier said in a statement:

“Production on Better Call Saul is underway and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series and today we happily confirm that our initial ‘Saul’ order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes. When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of Breaking Bad, there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on Saul and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.”

Sounds like the network is very confident the that the series is going to do well, which is great! All the fans of Breaking Bad are rooting for the series, and I'm sure that it will turn out great.

Scott Derrickson to Write Script for THE OUTER LIMITS

“There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission….”

Sinister writer and director Scott Derrickson is set to write a script for a feature film adaptation of the 1960s sci-fi series The Outer Limits. He will write the movie with his Sinister co-writer C. Robert Cargill

According to THR the writing team will be tackling time travel, an alien invasion, and genetic manipulation. The story will be an adaptation of an episode, "which focused on a man with no memory beyond the last 10 days and a computerized hand who discovers he is from the future. The man is being hunted by an alien race who see him as key to their survival but he soon discovers a more complex and terrifying truth."

That sounds like it has the making of a crazy fun flick! The Outer Limits was a great series, but I still prefer The Twilight Zone. Derrickson, on the other hand, has said that he prefers The Outer Limits over The Twilight Zone, so I guess he's the right man for the job.

Derrickson co-wrote and directed the upcoming Screen Gems horror thriller Deliver Us From Evil, and he is also set to direct Doctor Strange for Marvel. I've always thought Derrickson was a talented guy, so it's really cool to see his career taking off right now.

10 Trivia Bits You May Not Know From GHOSTBUSTERS II

10-trivia-bits-you-may-not-know-from-ghostbusters-ii

This week marks the 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters II. It may not be everyone's favorite movie, but when I was a kid I loved it just as much as the first one. It's really not that bad of a movie, sure it had some really cheesy parts, and I wasn't a big fan of what they did with Janine, but it was still entertaining. One of my favorite parts of the film when I was a kid is when they hooked the NES Advantage joystick up to the Statue of Liberty and walked it into New York City to save the day.  I thought is was so freakin' cool.

Since it is the 25th anniversary of the film, I thought it would be fun to share few interesting bits of trivia about the movie that you might not know. So here are ten of them that I picked out from Imdb:

  • Originally, the producers planned on having the crashed Hindenburg appear as a ghostly airship. They dumped this in favor of the apparitions coming off the Titanic.
  • In the scene when Egon looks up information about Vigo in the database, Vigo's full name is listed as Vigo Von Homburg Deutschendorf. The actor who plays Vigo is Wilhelm von Homburg and the twins who play Oscar are William T. Deutschendorf and Henry J. Deutschendorf II. The twins are the nephews of singer John Denver whose real name was Henry J. Deutschendorf I.
  • The kid who tells Ray that, according to his dad, the Ghostbusters are "full of crap" is played by Jason Reitman, the son of director Ivan Reitman. Jason grew up to direct films such as Juno and Up in the Air.
  • The term "proton pack", was never officially used on screen until the Ghostbusters are in the subway tunnel and Egon says, "Before we go any further, I think we should get our proton packs."
  • The original VHS and laserdisc release of this movie was in letterbox, causing complaints to video stores prompting them to call RCA/Columbia to find out if there was a problem in the printing. To make matters worse, it was not letterboxed in the film's original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, but rather letterboxed and panned-and-scanned into a 1.66:1 frame. The DVD release in 1999 was the first time that the film was presented in it's original 2.35:1 aspect ratio on home video.
  • Because The Real Ghostbusters (1986) animated spin-off series was so popular with the kids, Reitman, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis made a conscious effort to tone down the adult innuendo and behaviors from the previous movie. Between the two films, all the Ghostbusters gave up smoking, and the ghosts took on appearances closer to those in the animated series rather than the more frightening effects of the first film. It's the same reason that Janine's character was changed, and Slimer was living in the firehouse.
  • When Ray, Egon, and Winston go down into the sewer to examine the slime, and Winston is using a measuring device to see how deep it is, when he is being pulled towards the slime and Egon and Ray are trying to hold him back, you can hear one of the other 2 actors (Ramis or Aykroyd) call Winston "Ernie" by mistake, Ernie Hudson plays Winston in the movie.
  • Judge Wexler says that he tried the Scolari Brothers for murder and gave them the Electric Chair. The State of New York abolished the death penalty in 1965, 24 years before this movie takes place, when Judge Wexler would have been too young to be involved judging a murder trial.
  • The movie ends at New Year, so it must have been around Christmas time when the majority of events took place. There is a surprising lack of Christmas decorations in New York City.
  • After the Ghostbusters smash the glass and metal dome on the roof of the museum, the entire dome wasn't actually totally destroyed. When the Ghostbusters rappel down, the dome is still halfway intact, and later on, when Vigo looks up at the ceiling, half of the dome is intact.

Funny Trailer for DEAR WHITE PEOPLE

Dear White People was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see, but I've been hearing nothing but great things. The movie is a comedic satire about race relations in modern America, and it was written and directed by Justin Simien. As you'll see in the trailer, he's willing take on sensitive topics and bring some humor to it. Here's a synopsis for the movie:

Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, Dear White People is a sly, provocative satire of race relations in the age of Obama. Writer/director Justin Simien follows a group of African American students as they navigate campus life and racial politics at a predominantly white college in a sharp and funny feature film debut that earned him a spot on Variety’s annual “10 Directors to Watch.”

Dear White People stars rising talents Tyler James Williams ("Everybody Hates Chris,” Peeples), Tessa Thompson (For Colored Girls, “Veronica Mars”), Teyonah Parris (“Mad Men,” They Came Together), Brandon P. Bell (“Hollywood Heights”), Kyle Gallner (A Nightmare on Elm Street, CBGB), Malcolm Barrett (The Hurt Locker), Brittany Curran (“Chicago Fire”), Marque Richardson (“The Newsroom”) and Dennis Haysbert (“24,” Far From Heaven).

Dear White People opens on October 17th.

BATTLE PRINCESS OF ARCADIAS - Battling Monsters With Princess Plume

Is it sad that I look forward to defeating my first monster, only so I can utter the words, "You Got Served!" I know, I know, the movie was terrible, but I will hold on to that phrase for dear life. Regardless of my bad lingo, what's not bad is the ridiculous and over the top nature of Battle Princess of Arcadia's hack and slash combat. The game also scratches that "gimme that loot!" itch, and includes a robust upgrade and enhancement system to boot. You can swap your various party members in and out during battles, which are separated into three categories. Regular battles classify as combat, and have you and 2 others of your team taking on the enemy. Skirmishes are team vs. team, and sieges feature your entire team against ancient enemies, akin to huge boss characters.

It reminds me very much of the multi-tiered system that I loved from the Suikoden series, but with a much heavier action bent. Peep the trailer above to see the colorful art style in action, and catch the slideshow below to catch some screens from the English release. The game is out now on the PSN network for $30.00.

Unauthorized SAVED BY THE BELL Movie to Premiere on Lifetime

Lifetime will premiere an unauthorized TV movie for the classic 1990s kid series Saved By The Bell. The movie will focus on the off-camera experiences of the six young stars of the afternoon sitcom. According to THR, the film "promises to expose the challenges of growing up under the public scrutiny while trying to maintain a squeaky clean image of their characters on- and off-screen."

Having grown up watching Saved By The Bell, it will be really interesting to see what behind-the-scenes stories they tell in this thing. I imagine there was a lot more drama with these actors off-screen than on.

The movie was cast by the original casting director of the series, Robin Lippin. The TV movie stars Dylan Everett (Degrassi: The Next Generation) as Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Sam Kindseth (Shameless) as Dustin Diamond, Julian Works (Paranormal Activity) as Mario Lopez, Alyssa Lynch as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Tiera Skovbye (Supernatural) as Elizabeth Berkley, and Taylor Russell McKenzie (Blink) as Lark Voorhies. You can see a photo of the cast below.

I never ever watch Lifetime, but the curiosity factor of this show has gabbed me, and I'll be tuning in. It's set to premiere on Monday, Sept. 1st, at 9 p.m ET/PT.

5 Geeky Things We Want This Week, The Sands of Tatooine Edition

Geeks aren’t really known as beach bums. In fact, we couldn’t even come up with a geeky beach scene to reference for the title (I guess there is the lakeside picnic in “The Impossible Astronaut,” but that doesn’t scream happy fun times). But beach season is upon us, which means sun and sand and water, and we’re all just going to have to deal. Here are some ways to show your devotion to all things geek, even in a bathing suit.

Star Trek Beach Towels
There are a lot of geek-themed beach towels out there, but these are big, and the bright, bold colors will make your spot easy to find, even after the current has dragged you a half-mile down the beach. [Perpetual Kid]

Wonder Woman One Piece
We love this saucy version of Wonder Woman's classic look. It provides good coverage without looking like a mom suit, and it will flatter most figures. [Pinup Girl Clothing]

Captain America Board Shorts
"When Captain America throws his mighty shield, all waves who choose to oppose his shield must yield!" Okay, that doesn't make any sense, but still, you'll look like a super soldier in these cool board shorts. [Superhero Stuff]

Superfight! Card Game
There's only so long you can spend in the water or lying on your towel, so at some point, you're going to want to play cards. In this game, you throw out people and powers and figure out who would win in a fight. The game is so great that it's sold out everywhere, but you can sign up to be notified when it is back in stock. Giant-Ass Superman Kite
If card games aren't your thing, check out this giant Superman kite. There is always a steady wind coming off the water, so there's no better place to fly the 7'2" hero. [Amazon]

Three images have been released for Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. They gives us a new look at Michelangelo and Donatello in fighting stances. The third is of April O'Neil standing in the Ninja Turtles' secret Lair.

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

The movie is set to be released on August 8th! I'm not expecting much from this movie, but maybe it will surprise me.
