Animated Superman Flies Through His 75 Year History

animated-superman-flies-through-his-75-year-history

This animated tribute to the Man of Steel actually almost brought a tear to my eye. It's just so damn beautiful. Director Zack Snyder, animation producer Bruce Timm, and Jay Oliva teamed up to bring this Superman awesomeness to life. I thought this thing was more entertaining than Snyder's Man of Steel. This was included on the Man of Steel Blu-Ray,but is now online for everyone to see, so enjoy!

THE RAID Remake Will Focus on America's DEA Task Force

I really hate that The Raid is going to be remade. There's no way it's going to be as good as the original, so seriously… what's the point? The director of The Expendables 3, Patrick Hughes, is the guy who will adapt the film for American audiences, and in a recent interview with Comingsoon he discused his take on the insane action film, calling it "Interesting."

"We have a really, really interesting take on that film. One thing, obviously the original just blew my mind and I was fortunate enough to catch up with Gareth Evans in LA at the premiere of The Raid 2. The thing that blew my mind with that film was the aesthetics and the fight sequences but also the simplicity of the premise, and there's so much you can do with that. So our take on it is really interesting and I feel like if anything what I want to do is elevate the emotional aspect of it, and I think those are my favorite action films of all time when you can balance the action and the emotion, and what he did with his first 'Raid' was phenomenal.."

Really, really interesting doesn't necessarily mean good. Also, I thought the emotional aspect of the film was great. I'm not sure how he'll elevate it even more, but he does talk about the direction they plan on taking the story, saying that it will focus on America's DEA task force.

"Certainly, we're not there to recreate that film beat for beat, with the set up we're following a DEA task team, which was implemented by the Bush administration after September 11th when they realized that terrorism and the drug trade were so closely aligned. So they set up a DEA task team that's six units and they work across borders and sort of act like Navy SEALS. You never read about it, you never hear about it, but they go on these missions. So that's a really interesting take and a really nice premise and also what's interesting on this take on it is the clash of cultures and the clash of martial arts, the fighting styles, which is something that's going to be a lot of fun when we've really started pre-vizzing stuff."

He uses the word interesting a lot, doesn't he? If this wasn't a remake of The Raid, I might actually think this concept is kind of cool. It was rumored that Chris and Liam Hemsworth were wanted to star in the film… I really hope that's not true.

Mondo Marvel Superhero Portraits by Mike Mitchell

Mondo has released a set of Marvel superhero portraits created by artist Mike Mitchell. These are part of a comics-themed show taking place at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, TX. The artist had this to say about his illustrations and what he wants to portray in them:

"My love for Marvel Comics was an integral part of growing up. Not just the comics, but the action figures, video games and cartoons. My intention with this show was to take those characters out of their action-oriented world and give them a moment of silence to catch their breath. There's a humanizing quality to that which I find extremely interesting. This has easily been the most ambitious project I've ever taken on, and it's due in part to my love for their universe; which is fictional by definition, but real in my mind and in the minds of others."

They turned out beautifully. The show will run from April 25th through May 17th.

Chris Pine to Join Coast Guard Guard Film THE FINEST HOURS

chris-pine-to-join-coast-guard-guard-film-the-finest-hours

Star Trek actor Chris Pine is in talks to join Disney's coast guard film, The Finest Hours. It will tell the true story of a daring 1952 coast guard rescue of 84 men off Cape Cod after two oil tankers collided and were torn in half by waves during a fierce blizzard. Craig Gillespie is also in talks to direct the project. He's the director of films such as Fright Night and Million Dollar Arm.

This really is an incredible and heroic story, and I think it will make for an amazing film. This is a perfect project for Pine to take on. It's easy to imagine him in a movie like this. The film will be an adaptation of a book with the same name, and here's the synopsis:

In the winter of 1952, New England was battered by the most brutal nor'easter in years. As the weather wreaked havoc on land, the freezing Atlantic became a wind-whipped zone of peril.

In the early hours of Monday, February 18, while the storm raged, two oil tankers, the Pendleton and the Fort Mercer, found themselves in the same horrifying predicament. Built with "dirty steel," and not prepared to withstand such ferocious seas, both tankers split in two, leaving the dozens of men on board utterly at the Atlantic's mercy.

The Finest Hours is the gripping, true story of the valiant attempt to rescue the souls huddling inside the broken halves of the two ships. Coast Guard cutters raced to the aid of those on the Fort Mercer, and when it became apparent that the halves of the Pendleton were in danger of capsizing, the Guard sent out two thirty-six-foot lifeboats as well. These wooden boats, manned by only four seamen, were dwarfed by the enormous seventy-foot seas. As the tiny rescue vessels set out from the coast of Cape Cod, the men aboard were all fully aware that they were embarking on what could easily become a suicide mission.

The spellbinding tale is overflowing with breathtaking scenes that sear themselves into the mind's eye, as boats capsize, bows and sterns crash into one another, and men hurl themselves into the raging sea in their terrifying battle for survival.

Not all of the eighty-four men caught at sea in the midst of that brutal storm survived, but considering the odds, it's a miracle -- and a testament to their bravery -- that any came home to tell their tales at all.

Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman have seamlessly woven together their extensive research and firsthand interviews to create an unforgettable tale of heroism, triumph, and tragedy, one that truly tells of the Coast Guard's finest hours.

Check out this awesomely cool series of Doctor Who portraits created by artist Tim Doyle. I was late to the game with Doctor Who, but it quickly became one of my favorite series, and I'm so happy that it's still around. I hope it never ends. I love this set of illustrations featuring several of the Doctors and villains from the show. My favorite Doctor so far is Matt Smith, and my favorite villains are the weeping angels.

Watch 10 Minutes of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 B-Roll

0

JoBlo got their hands on a ton of B-roll footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It might be a little bit spoiler, because it’s behind the scenes footage of the cast and crew filming a lot of things. There’s little or no context, but you can probably piece some things together.

I really love watching B-roll because it shows the lie of moviemaking, especially on a big budget action film like this one. It gives away all their tricks, but some how it doesn’t kill the magic. Even though I know how the process works, I still watch movies and think, "How did they do that?!" Here’s how they do it: They shoot him, then her, then them together, then they shoot the big thing, then they add some stuff in post and edit it all together, and it’s a movie. I love it.

So check out this footage, and see if you can decipher any new snippets of dialogue while we Americans wait for the real thing to finally hit our movie screens on May 2. If you are practically anywhere else in the world, check it out and reminisce about the movie you already saw.

The blood moon is wreaking havoc in our lives. Our star charts are a mess, and we've settled into a state of low-level anxiety. Let's calm ourselves with a few treats.

Fox Picks Up MEN WHO KILL for Michael B. Jordan

0
0

Well, here’s some good news for those of us who have been just a little bit worried about Vince ever since Coach moved to Philly, Fox just bought a pitch that they will develop expressly as a star vehicle for Michael B. Jordan. He’s going to be ok, you guys. The project is called Men Who Kill, and it was pitched by T.J. Fixman. According to Deadline, it has an “international Bad Boys” kind of feel to it.

Although he’s been working in TV for awhile, Jordan’s breakout came with last year’s Fruitvale Station. Since then he has racked up a slew of high profile gigs, including the Fantastic Four reboot and a planned Rocky sequel, for which he will play Apollo Creed's grandson for the writer and director of Fruitvale Station, Ryan Coogler. His star is rising fast and doesn’t seem to have been dimmed by his participation in the widely-panned That Awkward Moment. I have been a fan of his for years now — although fans of The Wire can probably claim earlier allegiance, so I think this is boss news. Everyone should have to deal with how great he is.

Fixman cut his teeth as a video game writer but has recently sold scripts to Universal and New Line, as well as a Gargoyles script to Disney, which made our own Joey Paur very, very happy until he realized it had no connection to the animated series. Sorry, Joey. Don’t stop believin’.

Tony Stark Flirting with Some Disney Princesses

Robert Downey Jr. threw this fun piece of art up on Facebook earlier today. It features Tony Stark surrounded by the Disney princesses, and it came with the caption,

"Best part about a Disney deal…"

Are you sure it's not the millions upon millions of dollars they pay you to be in their movies? Because that would be the best part about it for me!

The illustration was created by artist Ryan Adriandhy, and I'm sure Marvel and Disney fans will get a kick out of it.

ZELDA: Wind Waker Style Link Nendoroid Available for Pre-Order

Legend of Zelda fans have no shortage of cool gear and collectibles to display on their desk. That said, for fans of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, I might have something you’d be interested in. Up for preorder is the new Nendoroid (read: a really cool posable figure) of Wind Waker Link. What’s cool about this series of figures, which is made by The Good Smile Company, is the number of available accessories that come with them, including a heart container, his sword, and last but not least, the wind waker itself. If you get bored of one of his expressions, you can just swap it out for something else, and by far my favorite is Link’s pissed off face, which might have to just go permanently on my desk to keep people from stealing my paperclips.

The statue is up for preorder now, but only until May 14th, so if you’re interested, make sure to lock yours in soon. Link will run you about $40 USD. You can head to the official store for more info, and make sure to catch his other expressions in the gallery below.

The Dark Knight Noir Trilogy Poster Set

The Dark Knight Trilogy has been a popular subject for artists, but this set of posters is the best I’ve seen. I love the way that artist Doaly incorporates a major architectural element from each film into a bold, noir-style graphic design. I also love the mass of flying bats that serves as a throughline connecting the series. Doaly left this note about the project:

I wanted the posters to be based on the monologues of the three films which chart the character’s progression as he comes full circle.

It’s taken a while but I’m happy to finally be able to post the full set of The Dark Knight Noir Trilogy Poster Set together, I hope everyone likes it as much fun it was to create

The posters aren’t available for sale (yet), but check out his store for other cool posters.

We have featured a lot of Star Wars rings on the site before, including this R2D2 inspired ring by jeweler Paul Michael Bierker of Paul Michael Designs. Well, Paul has been in his studio cranking out more awesome Star Wars fine jewelry, like his X-Wing and TIE Fighter engagement rings. The TIE Fighter ring can be crafted from gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, and features a 1 ct black diamond. I don’t have specs on the X-Wing ring because it hasn’t hit his etsy store yet. He posted it on his Facebook page last week. Hopefully it is available for purchase soon because wedding season is coming, and engagement season follows right on its heels. Check out his shop even if you aren't ready for that level of commitment, he has tons of geeky jewelry anyone would love.

Joss Whedon's IN YOUR EYES - Chilling Opening Scene

The Avengers director Joss Whedon wrote and produced a new film called In Your Eyes, and today we have a clip to share from the supernatural thriller. The clip is the opening scene from the film, and it completely hooked me! Whedon is such a great storyteller,  I loved what I saw here and I'm excited to see more.

The film stars Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) and Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield) and the story "takes place in the winter and tells the story of Rebecca, a soft-spoken doctor’s wife living on the East Coast, and Dylan, an ex-con struggling to make a fresh start in New Mexico, who somehow find themselves inexplicably and metaphysically connected."

Nikki Reed and Jennifer Grey are also in the cast of the movie which is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend. Thanks to EW for the embed!

An exciting new clip from Star Wars Rebels was screened at WonderCon this weekend, and it is now available for you to watch online! The clip features an introduction from voice actress Vanessa Marshall and focuses on her character Hera. Here's a description that came along with it:

Hera, captain of the Ghost, pilots her starship during a battle with two TIE fighters. Chopper delivers a message from Kanan, currently engaging the TIEs in the top turret. The Jedi is apparently displeased with Hera's maneuvering. In response, she takes matters into her own hands...

This seriously looks like it's going to be a great series!

Kevin Conroy reprises his role as Batman in this awesome Batman Beyond animated short! DC and Warner Bros. have been releasing all kinds of Batman greatness in honor of the superhero's 75th anniversary, and they will continue to do so through the month of April. This was directed by Darwyn Cooke, and as you'll see, it's all kinds of bat-tastic! I especially liked how it ended.

GODZILLA - Two New TV Spots

You have no idea how amazing Godzilla is going to be. Even after the trailers, clips, and spots, it's going to be so much more epic than you can imagine. This weekend at WonderCon, Legendary Pictures screened a lengthy clip from the film that led up to a face off between Godzilla and another giant creature. The clip gave us our first real look at Godzilla, and it was beyond epic. We really don't have any idea what we are in for, but I think it's going to be so much better than we think it will be. We'll find out soon enough when it's released in theaters on May 16th.
