THE WOMAN IN BLACK Special Edition Poster Arrives

0
0

There is a lot of promotion going on for The Woman in Black, which opens February 3. We have a new special edition poster from EW. The TV spots always seem to come on when I have turned off the lights at night, which makes me even more creeped out.

The period ghost story was directed by James Watkins and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds, Liz White, Janet McTeer, Alisa Khazanova, Tim McMullan, Roger Allam, Daniel Cerqueira, Shaun Dooley, Mary Stockley, Cathy Sara, David Burke, Victor McGuire, and Lucy May Barker.

Here is the official synopsis:

Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric. But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret. Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost... and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance. Directed by James Watkins (EDEN LAKE), written by Jane Goldman (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) and co-starring Ciarán Hinds (TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY) and Golden Globe®-nominee Janet McTeer (ALBERT NOBBS)

Are you looking forward to seeing this movie?

NBC Picks Up THE OFFICE Spin-Off

The Office may not have been picked up for a ninth season (as of yet), but it looks like there will be a spin-off thanks to NBC. THR reports that the network is moving forward with a family comedy spin-off centered around Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson). The show will reportedly focus on the infamous Schrute farm, and may get a test run during an episode of The Office this season. Wilson, actor/showrunner Paul Lieberstein (Toby) and Ben Silverman are involved.

I am hopeful that the show does better than the Friends spin-off Joey did. Schrute has become a pop culture icon, and I think he will be perfect to lead a show. The Office may not be as popular of a show as it was when Steve Carrell was the lead, but it still my favorite comedy on TV. Ed Helms, James Spader and the rest of the cast definitely worth checking out every week.

Trailer for Edward Furlong's BELOW ZERO

0
0

Here is the trailer for Justin Thomas Ostensen's Below Zero, thanks to Bloody Disgusting. The film stars Edward Furlong (Night of the Demons, Terminator 2, Crow: Wicked Prayer). The film was initially slated to be released in 3D, but now that is not the case.

Signe Olynyk wrote the script for the horror film that also stars Michael Berryman. The story is supposedly true, according to filmmakers. CHeck the synopsis:

Below Zero is the true-life story of Jack the Hack, a screenwriter with writer's block who arranges to have himself locked in a meat cooler in order to meet a looming deadline. As the temperature drops, the lines between reality and fiction blur, and Jack’s story comes to life, exposing him to a world of horror that only a meat freezer can inspire.

This movie looks fairly creepy. The idea of being locked in a small space that is freezing cold does not sound like a lot of fun. Watch the trailer below, and share your thoughts.

THE DARKNESS II Launch Trailer Arrives

The launch trailer for The Darkness II has arrived online from 2K Games, thanks the Supherohype. The game arrives on February 7 (Feb. 10 Internationally) on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Here is a description of the game:
Based on the supernatural horror comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II delivers a brutal and personal narrative as gamers take control of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as the Darkness.

The Darkness II is the sequel to the million unit-selling 2007 title, The Darkness, and brings a unique new combat mechanic through Quad-Wielding, which will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with two Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game is layered with thematic elements of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and maintains the stylistic violence visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique, true to its comic book origins.

THE HANGOVER 3 Cast Asks For Raises, And I Say Give 'Em To Them!

0
0

The Hangover 3's cast may be close to a big payday, and I say they are worth every penny. THR reports that Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms are finally nearing a deal, after holding out for pay increases for the third installment of the franchise. Sources close to the studio say that the trio is close to getting $15 million each (against backend) to reprise their roles.

This would be a hefty raise from 2009’s The Hangover, which cost about $35 million and paid the leads under $1 million each. The first film raked in an unexpected $467 million worldwide. Unfortunately, the studio had not negotiated sequel contracts for the cast, and for The Hangover 2 they were paid $5 million (plus back-end), which made their take closer to the mid-teens (and counting) when the movie grossed $581 million worldwide. The actors (and director Todd Phillips) are all represented by CAA and have presented a united front during negotiations for the third film.

Warner Bros. plans to change things up a bit for the third film. The story will take place in Los Angeles, and will not focus on the forgotten-debauchery formula of the first movies. Filming is slated to being this summer to ready for a Memorial Day 2013 release.
I personally say give them the money! The amounts they made for the first film is so low, that they deserve a nice payday. I know not everyone was happy with the second film (even though I loved it), but the films continue to bring in tons of money. I can not see any other actors taking their place. What are your thoughts of this news? Do you think that they deserve this much money?

Sundance 2012 Review: THE WORDS with Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, and Dennis Quaid

0
0

Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal co-wrote and co-directed The Words, a star-studded drama about a struggling young writer who steals someone's novel and publishes it as his own. It's nothing remarkable, just another fine film with good performances and an interesting premise.

The most interesting thing about the movie is the way it's structured. It opens with Dennis Quaid's character, a writer, reading his most recent book aloud to a sold out crowd. The movie spends most of the runtime with his book's imaginary characters, another writer, played by Bradley Cooper, and his wife, played by Zoe Saldana. Cooper publishes a novel originally written by Jeremy Irons' character and becomes wildly successful. Irons tracks him down and tells him the story of how he lost his book, taking the movie into a flashback format that stars Ben Barnes as a dead ringer for a young Irons. So we're three levels deep, and there's voiceover narrations from two different people going on as the movie crosscuts between levels. Back in level one, Quaid is seduced by Olivia Wilde, a grad student who wants to hear the end of the story.

As expected, the film brings up questions of ownership, identity, and the guilt associated with living a lie. It's all pretty basic stuff, and though it's all well-executed, it all feels very predictable. For me, it felt like a movie from the mid-90s that you'd watch at 2 in the afternoon on Starz. The concepts it touches on are much more interesting than what we see explored in depth in the movie, but it's still a nicely-acted serviceable multi-tiered drama. (Irons steals the show, much in the way he did in last year's Sundance flick Margin Call.) The ending sparked a debate among myself and a few colleagues, so the discussion factor should provide some interesting interpretations if you watch it with friends. I've heard CBS Films purchased the movie, so I imagine it'll be getting a theatrical release, but save your money - The Words would be just fine on a small screen at home.

Stan Lee's Letter To A Fan Reveals Dr. Strange's Original Name!

0
0

We have an example of how awesome Stan Lee is (not that you would need another one), thanks to The Marvel Age of Comics (via Blastr). This lengthy letter from 1963 shows how much he likes fans and reveals some new details about Dr. Strange - like the fact that he did not always have a Ph.D.

The letter was written in response to a letter from fan Dr. Jerry Bails, is dated January 9, 1963, and includes the Madison Avenue mailing address for Lee's office at Marvel. Unfortunately, we don't have Bails' letter, but based on Lee's response, it looks as though he was critical of Marvel's art process. Bail seems to have called out Marvel's chief artist at the time—the great Jack Kirby. Kirby often would start strips and then pass them off to other artists to be finished, which often caused quality issues.
Here is the description from Blastr:
Lee states that Marvel has a 'very small staff—quite unlike the NATIONAL COMICS GROUP' (aka DC Comics).

'The poor guy only has two hands,' Lee wrote, 'and he can only draw with ONE!'

Lee also writes about the Wasp's introduction to Ant-Man stories, his belief that Spider-Man will soon be a very popular character (Spidey had only debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15 about five months earlier) and the creative process he and Kirby used onFantastic Four that has since become known as the 'Marvel Method.'

But perhaps the most interesting tidbit in this lengthy fan response is Lee's revelation that Doctor Strange—who would not debut until later that year—was not always a Doctor.

'Originally decided to call him MR. STRANGE, but thought the MR. a bit too similar to MR. FANTASTIC—now, however, I just remember we had a villain called DR. STRANGE just recently in one of our mags—hope it won't be too confusing! Oh well...'

Things ended up working out just fine for Doctor Strange. He survived the name confusion and went on to be Marvel's resident Sorcerer Supreme, but in the very same letter—six months before the character made his debut in Strange Tales #110—Lee reveals that he didn't have very much love for that first Stephen Strange tale, which was just a '5-page filler.'

'Steve Ditko is gonna draw him. Sort of a black magic theme. The first story is nothing great, but perhaps we can make something of him—'twas Steve's idea, and I figgered we'd give it a chance, although again, we had to rush the first one too much.'

Sundance 2012 Review: SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS Is More Entertaining Offstage Than On

0
0

I've got a confession to make: before seeing Shut Up and Play The Hits, I had never heard an LCD Soundsystem song. But that gave me a unique vantage point from which to view this film, as I don't think many people who haven't heard of the band would watch a 105 minute documentary about them. Most good documentaries simultaneously educate and entertain, so did this one meet the criteria?

Unlike Michael Rappaport's superlative music documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest from last year's festival, Shut Up doesn't aim to provide any context for how its musical subjects fit into the larger picture of the music scene. Instead, it concentrates almost solely on frontman James Murphy and his decision to walk away from the band and retire at age 41. Intercut with footage from their final concert at Madison Square Garden, the doc contrasts the insanity of being a rock star with the crushing normality of life after lights go down. "If it's a funeral, let's have the best funeral ever," reads the opening text as the movie begins. And there truly is a sense that something died when the group disbanded, leaving Murphy alone with his dog, busying himself with cleaning coffee makers and visiting storage warehouses full of musical equipment. It's heartbreaking, but captivating to watch since the downfall of the band was Murphy's choice.

There is a TON of concert footage here - by my count, nine songs were played in their entirety - but if you've ever watched a DVD of a live music performance, you've seen all this before. There's nothing new stylistically, and because of the repetitive nature of the lyrics in a majority of the chosen songs, these sections drag on for an interminable amount of time. I kept waiting for them to get back to the traditional documentary sections, a good portion of which consisted of a journalist doing an interview with Murphy and asking him some legitimately great questions about his decision.

If you're a fan of the band, I'd imagine this will be both a nostalgic goodbye and a way to reconcile with Murphy's decision. As a non-fan, I found the mentality behind his choice the most interesting part of the documentary. There are tiny cameos of Donald Glover, Aziz Ansari, and Reggie Watts at the concert, but no interviews with them at all. It's all about Murphy, and as someone who has made such a unique decision, it's fascinating to see the wheels turning in his head as he struggles to come to grips with his own choice and wonders if maybe, just maybe, he made the wrong call.

GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE - 3 New TV Spots

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's vision of Ghost Rider looks insanely entertaining, and even the fact that Nicolas Cage is back in the role of Johnny Blaze won't sway me from seeing this film. I'm just hoping we see more of Ghost Rider and less of Cage. Ghost rider: Spirit of Vengeance looks like a harmless hardcore entertaining popcorn flick, and we've got three new TV spots featuring new footage from the film to share with you!

Here's the full synopsis:

Former stuntman and bounty hunter of rogue demons Johnny Blaze has been living in self-imposed exile, believing that his powers are a curse. But when he is approached by a member of a monastic order who is looking for someone to protect a mother and her son, who are being pursued by the devil in the figure of a man named Roarke, the Ghost Rider takes the case.

The movie also stars Fergus RiordanCiaran HindsViolante PlacidoIdris Elba, and Johnny Whitworth, and comes out on February 17th 2012. Check out the new TV spots and hit us up with your thoughts!

WRATH OF THE TITANS - 2 New TV Spots

Warner Bros. has released two new trailers for Sam Worthington's second attempt at playing Perseus in Wrath of the Titans. Nope, I'm not looking forward to this one. Yes, the trailers make the film look like it could be good, but many of us were fooled by some great looking trailers the first time around only to find that the remake of Clash of the Titans sucked ass. I won't fall for that again. Who knows, maybe the film will end up being good, but I simply just don't care right now.

The film was directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle LA) and stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramiez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, and Rosamund Pike.

Here's the full synopsis:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) --the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)--is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Wrath of the Titans hits theaters March 20th, 2012! Watch the TV spots below and tell us what you think!

Updates on IRON MAN 3, CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 and DR. STRANGE

0
0

Thanks to our friends over at Superherohype we have an update on what Marvel has lined up for the big screen over the next few years. Just like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America laid the groundwork for The Avengers, that film is setting the stage for future films. According to Comicbook.com, Iron Man 3 is slated to begin filming in early May (likely after Robert Downey Jr. has completed press for Avengers) to be ready a May 4, 2013 release date.

Here is an excerpt from that report:

Multiple sources have told ComicBook.com that shooting for Iron Man 3 will begin prior to The Avengers hitting theaters May 4th, weeks ahead of previously published dates.  The film is scheduled to be shot in Wilmington, NC at the EUE/Screen Gems Studios and is believed to be the largest production ever to be filmed in North Carolina.

Previous reports have listed late May as the official production start date, but one source close to the North Carolina operations said that Marvel “will have staff in Wilmington as early as mid-March, with shooting scheduled to begin the last week of April or the first week of May.”

Asked to verify the report, Marvel Studios said they do not officially comment on current or future development but indicated the reports were likely accurate. An e-mail update from that same Marvel Studios source told ComicBook.com, “It is not April for sure.”

After Thor 2's releease on November 15, 2013, not much is known. Marvel has scheduled two untitled projects for release on April 4, 2014 and then on May 16, 2014. The date of 4/4/14 could possibly be the Fantastic Four reboot, but that is still a 20th Century Fox release. Instead, could this date be the Dr. Strange movie?

Here is what Fanshare had to say on that project:

It has been confirmed that the script for Doctor Strange has been completed by Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan The Barbarian, Sahara) and Marvel Studios are now actively seeking a director to come in and helm the project. Once the director has come on board, they will then be searching for the cast to star in Doctor Strange.

The budget for Doctor Strange is not expected to be anywhere near as much as that of the bigger Marvel movies but it is still believed that, with the right script, the right director and the right cast, a good superhero movie could definitely come out of this. Production on Doctor Strange is expected to begin this year, with a release date likely to be sometime in 2013.

We have a very early synopsis for the Dr. Strange movie thanks to CBM (via JoBlo):

Doctor Strange centres around a New York surgeon, who stops running his practice after suffering injuries in a car crash. He then becomes a drifter and heads to the Himalayas, where he meets a healer and discovers that he has a great psychic power to fight against evil. Doctor Strange boasts powers that includes telepathy, teleportation, energy and astral projection.

The project that is likely to fill that date is none other than Captain America 2. Neal McDonough shared the following bit of info on IMDb

"Yeah, they’re planning (to go into production for) Captain America 2 for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they’re going to do Thor 2 and as soon as Thor has wrapped, they’ll do Cap 2. Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into Nick Fury because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything."

Why is that?

"Because it’ll be me and Sam Jackson. In the real Marvel universe, Dum Dum Dugan is Nick Fury’s right hand man.

…And  I just pray that they have a 1970s setting, because I want to see Sam Jackson with lambchops kicking people’s asses for Marvel universe. It would just be awesome. And to work with Sam would be a treat. We’ve become friendly over the years."

At this time we have no official confirmation from Marvel, but the future is sure to be full of great superhero movies. Check out some cool new pieces of promo art from CBM for The Avengers, which arrives in theaters on May 4.

JOHN CARTER - New TV Spot with Tons of New Footage

0
0

I'm hoping so bad that Disney's adaptation of John Carter will be better than it looks. The studio has released a new TV spot today featuring a bunch of new footage from the film that may or may not get you a little bit more pumped up for this sci-fi adventure. As much as like Taylor Kitsch as an actor, I feel he was completely miscast in this role.

The rest of the films cast includes Lynn CollinsSamantha MortonMark StrongCiaran HindsDominic WestJames PurefoyDaryl SabaraPolly WalkerBryan CranstonThomas Hayden Church, and Willem Dafoe.

Here's the Synopsis:

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

The movie is set to be released on March 9th, 2012. Check out the new TV spot and tell us what you think!

THE WALKING DEAD GROWING PAINS Mashup

Here is one of the most interesting mashups I have ever seen. The team over at Movieweb (via Cinemablend) have mashed the opening sequence of The Walking Dead with the Growing Pains theme song, and it is oddly genius. Check it out below and share your thoughts.

While this is cool, I am partial to the original opening sequence for The Walking Dead. Which is your favorite?

Spanish Trailer for RED LIGHTS Arrives

Thanks to Twitch we have the Spanish trailer for Rodrigo Cortés' (Buried) new film Red Lights (Check out Ben's Review HERE).  Millennium Entertainment bought US distribution rights for about $4m.
Here is what Millennium CEO Bill Lee had to say about the purchase:
We came to Sundance looking for high-concept, quality commercial fare, and Cortés' paranormal thriller - anchored by memorable performances from an exceptional cast - fully delivers. We are elated to be in business with this talented filmmaker."
Cortés had this to say:
We are excited to start working with Millennium. Their passion and understanding for our film makes them the ideal partner for our US release.

Here is the description:

RED LIGHTS is the third feature film by Rodrigo Cortés, following the multi award-winning THE CONTESTANT (2007) and BURIED (2010). A psychological thriller which explores the human brain's perception mechanisms and the diffuse frontiers between belief and science, RED LIGHTS starts out from the experiences of two rationalist scientists who dissect phenomena from the metapsychic world, and the clash of forces with a world famous psychic they bring about. The past and the present of each the protagonists contain still unrevealed shadows, setting in train a dark story of growing tension, full of unexpected twists and turns.

Red Lights arrives in theaters in Spain on March 2nd. Despite the trailer not having English subtitles, this movie looks pretty cool. Watch the trailer below and share your thoughts

Sundance 2012 Review: V/H/S - Awesome Found Footage Horror Anthology

0
0

I had absolutely no expectations going into V/H/S. All I knew was that it was a found footage horror film involving VHS tapes. Turns out this is a horror anthology featuring five short found footage stories, all written and directed by a different director, and I absolutely loved it! The movie had a great mix of different horror film genres such as slasher films, ghost stories, and urban legends. I'm a huge fan of horror movies, and I couldn't help but enjoy watching this entertainingly twisted flick.

The movie starts off with a group of jackasses going around terrorizing people, and destroying things while filming it. The stuff they film they sell to someone for money. The guy they sell these tapes to offer them a job to break into an old mans home to steal a tape that he wants. When they get there and search the house they come across a collection of VHS tapes and watch them... That's when the movie really gets interesting.

These videos play out like R-rated Twilight Zone episodes. Each one has a great little twist and reveal, but I won't ruin anything for you, I'll just give you the basic set up for each one.

The first video follows a group of college guys going to find some girls to have a good time with. One of the characters is armed with a pair of glasses with a built in camera so he can record whatever happens through the night. They do meet a few girls, and when they take them back to a hotel things get freakin' crazy! This was a great opening and perfectly set the tone for the rest of the movie.

The second video follows a young couple traveling across the country with a camera. While stopped at a hotel a young lady comes to the door to ask for a ride. They turn her down, but as the trip progresses, things start to get a little intense.

The third video follows a group of college kids with a video camera into the woods for a day that is supposed to be filled with fun and relaxation. Of course, that's not what they end up getting after the person that brings them out there tells her friends the real reason behind the trip and the urban legend surrounding those woods. This may seem like something that's been done a thousand times before, but it really does have a pretty cool original twist.

The fourth video takes us into the world of online video chat. A girl has just moved into a new apartment, and strange things start to happen. She thinks the house is haunted and so she enlists the help of her long distance boyfriend to help and support her. When things start to happen she calls her boyfriend via video chat. This story escalates into a very cool, creepy, and unexpected end.

The fifth video was my favorite of the bunch. It takes place on Halloween night, and a group of friends dressed up in costumes head out to a Halloween party spook house. One of the guys is dressed up as a bear nanny cam with an built-in working camera. They get to the house and find no one is there, so they just start walking through it. There are some crazy strange things that start to happen, but they all think it's part of the haunted house spook ally experience... they think it's fake. I loved how this story plays out, it had some awesome genuine scares.

The films were directed by Adam Wingard, Glenn McQuaid, Radio Silence, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, Ti West, and written by Simon Barrett, Glenn McQuaid, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez, Chad Villella, David Bruckner, Nicholas Tecosky, and Ti West.

This was a hell of a fun movie to watch, and if you enjoy watching horror films then you're going to love V/H/S.

Here's the Synopsis:

When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.

Bringing together some of the top filmmakers in the game today, this wickedly conceived horror anthology sends the viewer through a gauntlet of suspense, terror, shock, and downright brutality—instantly distinguishing itself from a sea of lackluster found-footage horror flicks. The diverse and deviously creative minds behind V/H/Sshatter any preconceived notions about the genre, making it feel inventive and captivating once again.

See Rare Test Footage And Artwork For Animated John Carter!

In the early 20th century, American author Edgar Rice Burroughs was already a legend. While his biggest selling book at the time was about a feral king and his battles through the jungle (Tarzan), Burroughs was also well known for his science fiction series about the adventures of a confederate Virginian transported through death to Mars.

The exploits of John Carter caught the eye of up and coming animator and later known as legendary animator Bob Clampett (Loony Toons and creator of Porky Pig). Clampett approached Burroughs wishing to make John Carter of Mars a full length animated short.

Unfortunately, this was long before the success of the now legendary Superman shorts, and the project never fully got off the ground. However, I found some impressive test footage and artwork provided by his son Jon Burroughs that is amazing. When you watch the clip, be sure to keep an eye out for the innovative use of oil painting and the level of detail in the action scenes; it's a sight to behold.

Also check out this awesome artwork and concept sculptures done by Jon Burroughs for the project!

Ferris Bueller Headed to the Super Bowl?

Matthew Broderick is going to reprise his role as Ferris Bueller! Unfortunately, we're not announcing the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 cult classic. Comingsoon reports that Broderick will star as Bueller in a Super Bowl commercial, but the company is unknown at this time.

Watch the short teaser below and share your thoughts on what company the ad is for:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of my favorite John Huges films. Broderick starred opposite Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones, and Jennifer Grey in the comedy that earned $70.1 million at the domestic box office.

Sundance 2012 Review: YOUR SISTER'S SISTER

0

Your Sister's Sister balances subtle comedy with a love triangle situation in a way that seems surprising given its serious premise. When Jack's (Mark Duplass) brother dies, his best friend Iris (Emily Blunt) sends him to her family's remote cabin to get some alone time and get out of his funk. Little does Jack know that Iris's sister Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt) is also at the cabin, trying to sort through some issues of her own. A drunken introduction leads to an...interesting night, and the entire situation gets even more complicated when Iris unexpectedly drops by the next day.

While I think it has some pacing issues that crop up toward the end of the movie (montage after montage slows the pace to a crawl in the last act), I'd still recommend seeing Your Sister's Sister if you can. The leads are all extremely likeable, and there's a reality to the script (written by director Lynn Shelton) and the actors' performances that gives this movie an edge over many other films I've seen at the festival so far. This is one of those rare movies in which the dialogue feels completely natural; it hasn't been put through some screenwriting formula, because this is the way that people actually speak to each other. It's honest, legitimately funny, and its idyllic setting looks like it could be one island away from the one featured in Black Rock, which Duplass coincidentally wrote. He also starred in one of my favorite movies of this year's festival, Safety Not Guaranteed, deviating greatly from that eccentric role this time around as a much more laid back manchild kind of guy. DeWitt and Blunt totally nail the relationship between sisters, with tiny looks and mannerisms adding volumes to already stellar work from them.

IFC Films has snagged distribution rights for the movie and has it slated for a summer 2012 release, so if you're looking to escape the onslaught of summer blockbusters with a solid dramedy, I'd recommend checking out Your Sister's Sister
