Nightmarishly Wicked Trailer for the Throwback Practical FX Horror Film THE VOID

I've been hearing a lot of great things about this upcoming sci-fi horror thriller called The Void. The movie is a throwback to the classic '80s horror films that many of us grew up enjoying, and it comes completely old-school crazy gory and bloody practical FX. The film is being compared to the classic horror films of John Carpenter and Clive Barker

The story centers around a group who are fighting to survive in a hospital where people are turning into insane-looking monsters from hell. It definitely looks like the kind of twisted and demented horror film that I'd enjoy. Here's the full synopsis:

Encountering a blood-soaked man on a dark deserted road, a police officer rushes the victim to the local hospital. Soon the staff and patients are trapped by a terrifying, otherworldly threat and forced on a hellish voyage into the depths of the building to escape the nightmare. Shocking, haunting and boasting mind-blowing practical special effects, The Void is a new must-see horror event, starring Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim vs the World), Kathleen Munroe (Alphas), Aaron Poole (Forsaken) and Kenneth Welsh (The Aviator) and Daniel Fathers. Written and directed by Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski and from the Executive Producer of The Witch.

The Void was co-directed and co-written by Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski. It stars Aaron PooleEllen WongKathleen MunroeKenneth Welsh, and Daniel Fathers and is set to hit theaters on April 7th.

Eva Green Set to Join Disney and Tim Burton's DUMBO

I'm huge fan of Eva Green; she's such a great and intense actress and takes on fun and bold character roles. It looks like she's going to be teaming up with Tim Burton again on the live-action adaptation of Disney's classic animated film Dumbo. The two previously worked together on Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

According to Deadline, if she's cast in the film, she will play one of the three main adult roles in the story. Will Smith was previously in talks to join the film, but he ended up dropping out of those talks and is not going to do the project. He would have played a father of the children "who develops a friendship with the lovable elephant after seeing him at the circus."

Tom Hanks was also offered a role in the film, but there's still no word on if he'll take it or not. If he does, he will play the villain in the story, which I assume will be the Circus Ringmaster. Here's a thought, what if Hanks did turn down the role and Green is in talks to take his place as the villain? I could get behind that!

There's not a lot of information on the story other than it will be “a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s journey.” If you've seen the original Dumbo, then I'm sure you have a pretty good idea of how the story will play out. Burton will most likely put his own unique spin on it, though.

When the project was first announced, we learned that the movie will be a mix of CG animation and live action, and I'm curious to see how it turns out!

A Clip of THE BIG BANG THEORY, but the Studio Audience Laughter Is Replaced With Ricky Gervais Laughter

Yes, this is exactly what it sounds like. Someone inexplicably took a clip of The Big Bang Theory and replaced the studio audience laugh track with laughter from comedian Ricky Gervais. I'm not sure why this YouTuber did this, but for me, it serves to point out the fact that most of the things that these characters say are not actually jokes (and when they are, they're rarely funny). Gervais' effusive, over the top cackling sounds straight up sarcastic in this context.

Mandy Moore Joins Teen Dystopian Thriller THE DARKEST MINDS

Fox is hoping that anyone* still wants to watch dystopian teen movies. They are basically the only studio in Hollywood that hasn’t been burned in the attempt to cash in on teens attempting to overthrow a dictatorial government/company (Yes, Lionsgate scored huge with The Hunger Games Trilogy Plus One, but they also released the floundering, maybe headed to TV, Divergent film series), and now that production of the highly successful Maze Runner Trilogy is back on track, they are looking to start up a new teen dystopia tentpole. To that end, they are moving forward on their adaptation of The Darkest Minds and have cast Mandy Moore in a major role.

The film, based on the YA trilogy by Alexandra Bracken, is set in a world in which a pandemic has killed off most of America’s children and teenagers. As some of the survivors develop special abilities, they are imprisoned. Amandla Stenberg (formerly of The Hunger Games, the dystopia that started it all) stars as a telekinetic teen who escapes and joins a group on the run. Moore will play a doctor who is also a member of a group that wants to stop persecuting children, which seems like it would be a popular stance, but you never know in these dystopias.

I really like Ms. Moore (you should check out her cover of “Have A Little Faith in Me”), but she seems like an odd fit for. a movie like this. I guess she’s hot now that she’s on This Is Us, and even got a Golden Globe nomination for it, so good on her for striking while the iron is hot. She probably needs the money for cat food.

The script is being written by Chad Hodge, the creator of Wayward Pines and The Playboy Club, and will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who helmed Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3. Shawn Levy is set to produce. Let's hope the film turns out to be more Hunger Games and less The 5th Wave.

*Me. I want to watch all of the teen dystopias, I don’t even care if they are good.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Geostorm, which shows mother nature going completely ballistic as it destroys the world. If you enjoy watching disaster movies with lots of big crazy destruction, Geostorm is a movie you don't want to miss because it looks like the ultimate natural disaster movie.

The movie was directed by Dean Devlin, the writer and producer of Independence Day, and it stars Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris, and Andy Garcia. The movie is sure to be a big entertaining visual feast of chaos with a hollow story because that's how most of these films turn out. If you want to watch a great disaster movie, check out The Wave on Netflix. Here's the synopsis:

After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world’s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong—the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything...and everyone along with it.
Butler stars as Jake, a scientist who, along with his brother, Max, played by Sturgess, is tasked with solving the satellite program’s malfunction. Cornish stars as Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson; Lara as Ute Fassbinder, the ISS astronaut who runs the space station; Wu as Cheng, the Hong Kong-based supervisor for the Dutch Boy Program; with Garcia as U.S. President Andrew Palma; and Harris as Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom.

Geostorm is set to debut in theaters October 20.

Let These Photos From THE FLASH/SUPERGIRL Musical Crossover Sweep You Off Your Feet

I've heard great things about both The Flash and Supergirl, but I haven't carved out time to catch up on either one yet. But I might tune in for The CW's multi-show crossovers they've been cooking up, and some fun new photos from the next crossover have made their way online courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

The reason Barry (Grant Gustin) and Kara (Melissa Benoist) are decked out in such classy clothes is that the newest crossover is a musical episode, and the two heroes will be caught in the dastardly plan of the villainous Music Meister (Darren Criss, rounding out the full Glee reunion). In The Flash episode "Duet," Music Meister traps Flash and Supergirl in an alternate reality "in which life is like a movie musical. The only way to wake up? Follow the Meister’s script till the end." The supporting cast become characters in this musical movie-within-the-show, and we get a glimpse of them in their sweet-looking garb as well.

Take a look at the new photos, as well as a quick teaser for the episode below. The crossover technically begins on the March 20th episode of Supergirl, but the majority of the action takes place during the March 21st episode of The Flash, so be sure to tune in on The CW to check it out.

Wait... Magneto, A Holocaust Survivor, Is Now a Nazi in the Marvel Comics? What?!

$

What in the hell is going on over at Marvel Comics?! They've had some pretty stinky brain farts lately. First, they make Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, an agent of Hydra in Secret Empire. I absolutely hated that change. As you know Hydra has long been associated with the Nazis so the fact that Captain America is now working with Nazis bugs the shit out of me. It gets worse, though.

Marvel has revealed that Magneto is also a part of Hydra and working with the Nazis. It was revealed in a series of "Villains of Hydra" variant cover art by Dan Mora. They include characters such as Baron Zemo, Madame Hydra, Crossbones, and Sin, and then there's Magneto.

Yeah, I understand that Magneto is a villain, BUT he's a freakin' Jewish Holocaust survivor who hates Nazis and anyone affiliated with them. Magneto's origin story focuses on his hellish survival of the Holocaust and the Nazis. Because of that, he has always harbored a deep loathing for the Nazis and thus Hydra, because the organization was founded by Baron Von Strucker and supported by Nazis like the Red Skull, who he actually locked away in a fallout shelter at one point to get revenge for what he did during WWII.

None of this makes any sense. It goes against everything Magneto stands for. I'm not sure why Marvel Comics is rolling forward with this, but I'm not cool it. What do you all think about Magneto joining the side of the Nazis?

Director Joe Carnahan Drops Out of BAD BOYS 3

$

I was actually looking forward to seeing director Joe Carnahan's vision of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's Bad Boys for Life. The director is known for his wild and crazy movies, and I think he would've given us a badass action movie. Unfortunately, according to THR, Carnahan has dropped out of the project and is no longer directing.

Some sources tell the site that the director has left due to scheduling conflicts, but other sources say it was because of "creative differences." So basically we don't really know why he left. Maybe it's a little bit of both.

Carnahan is currently in the process of developing a remake of The Raid with Frank Grillo, and he's also been rumored to be writing and directing fox's X-Force film. He also recently completed a script for the Uncharted movie, so the guy is definitely keeping himself busy. It wouldn't surprise me if there were scheduling conflicts, especially if he's looking to start shooting The Raid soon.

The studio is already on the hunt for a new director and they may be looking to hire a new writer as well. Carnahan wrote the most recent draft of the script. The studio is still looking to get the film into production this coming fall because Smith committed to the film after he shifted his schedule around to make it happen. The release date is currently set for November 8th, 2018.

The Bad Boys action franchise is a fun one, and I hope that the studio is able to find a suitable replacement. It's a bummer that Carnahan left the project, but we can expect more insane action films from him. They just won't be Bad Boys for Life

James Mangold Explains How Richard Donner's SUPERMAN Influenced LOGAN

If you've seen Logan, then you know that director James Mangold and Hugh Jackman put their hearts and souls into telling this story. Logan might actually go down as one of the greatest comic book movies ever made. It's just such a beautiful yet brutal story that touches the soul.

I know there are a lot of other films that influenced Mangold in the development of it including westerns like Shane. But in a recent interview with Empire, Mangold revealed another surprising film that inspired him... Richard Donner's classic film Superman. The director explained why that is:

"Richard Donner’s Superman was extremely human to me – a different tone to Logan by far, but still. Those beautifully-written scenes by Robert Benton between him and Lois Lane on the terrace, the beautiful humanity and simplicity of those scenes, and the lyrical joy of being swept in the air by a god who also happens to have a crush on [her], the contradictions in all of that are beautiful to me.”

I can see how he might have translated the beautiful humanity aspects of the film in Logan, especially those wonderful scenes between Jackman and Patrick Stewart. He went on to talk about how another film he was working on with Christian Bale that was canceled drove him to making Logan. He said:

"After I finished The Wolverine, I was going to make a detective film called The Deep Blue Goodbye with Christian Bale. I had spent the previous two years in Marvel mode and I was really looking forward to escape. Fourteen days before we started shooting, Christian tore the ACL in his knee and could not perform, so the movie got cancelled. That was a dark film and a journey into the abyss. I was broken-hearted over that film not happening, and I think I brought a lot of that inward ambition from that movie to this.”

It's interesting to hear what led Mangold to creating this comic book movie masterpiece and learn about what films influenced him, like Superman

Hugh Jackman Will Have a Say in Who Replaces Him as Wolverine

$

After seeing Logan, it seems like a ridiculous thought to bring Wolverine back to the big screen with a different actor in the role. We all know that one day it will eventually happen, though. Even Hugh Jackman admitted to THR:

“The character will go on. Someone else will play it, for sure.”

It doesn't sound like it's going to happen anytime soon, though. While talking to Deadline, X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg said:

“We haven’t even thought of the next iteration of Wolverine. For all of us, we were keeping our fingers crossed that the audiences would respond to Logan the way they have. I can’t visualize in my head another Wolverine..."

That's pretty much how the rest of us feel at this point. However, he does go on to say that when the day comes, they will talk to Jackman about it and he will have a say in who takes on the mantle of Wolverine. Kinberg continued:

"...but — if that day ever comes — we would talk to Hugh [Jackman] about it.”

A few years ago we put together a list of actors who could replace Jackman as wolverine. You can check that out here if you want. The one actor that I think would be interesting in the role is Tom Hardy. But it's hard to think that anyone will be able to top what Jackman did with the character in Logan.

Can you think of any other actors that might be a solid replacement for Jackman as Wolverine?

First Official Look at Thor, Hela, and Valkyrie in Marvel's THOR: RAGNAROK

first-official-look-a-thor-hela-and-valkyrie-in-marvels-thor-ragnarok

Thanks to EW, we have our first official look at Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Cate Blanchett as Hela and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie from Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok!

As you can see, Thor is sporting a completely different look with his short hair that has long been rumored. I'm sure you've also noticed that the God of Thunder’s hammer, Mjolnir, is nowhere to be seen. Instead, Thor is wielding a pair of deadly looking swords that he'll probably be using in the gladiator matches. I'm also digging his new gladiator-like appearance. When talking about playing Thor again for this movie, Hemsworth said:

“It was nice not to have to sit in the makeup chair for that hour each morning. It felt like a rebirth for me as the actor but also as the character.”

Then there's Hela, who looks sinister and menacing. Blanchett looks so good as this character! I like the character design that they went with. As she talked about her character, Blanchett said:

“She’s been locked away for millennia getting more and more cross, and then, with a mistake, she gets unleashed and she ain’t getting back in that box."

We all know that she'll be unleashing the powers of hell in this movie and Thor, Hulk, and Loki will be fighting against her to save Asgard. They'll also be getting a little help from the warrior Valkyrie, who looks completely badass. It's explained that Hela sends Thor to Sakaar, which is the planet in Planet Hulk. Hemsworth explains:

“[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers. No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says that Thor: Ragnarok is going to shake things up and says, "I have a belief that if you’re lucky enough to get to part 3 of a franchise, it is your obligation not to fall to threequel-itis."

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!

The movie is being directed by Taika Waititi and also stars Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Mark Ruffalo. Thor: Ragnarok is set to be released on November 3, 2017.

Netflix Looking Into "Choose Your Own Adventure" Options for Shows

$

Netflix is looking to make your viewing experience more interactive. Daily Mail writes the streaming company has been looking into making a "Choose Your Own Adventure" style of programming for either a new show or existing programming. The idea isn't new, as filmmakers have dabbled with the idea in the past, but nothing relevant has ever happened.

This means that key decisions in the plot could fall on you, the viewer, to decide how they play out. The story would then shift based on your decision and then you could go back and watch the alternate outcome. The concept certainly sounds cool but sounds like a continuity nightmare for a screenwriter. Ultimately what I see happening is the user making decisions that give the illusion of choice, but ultimately all roads lead to the same destination.

Would this be something you would be down for if it came to Netflix?

Charlize Theron Gets Savage and Sensual in Two ATOMIC BLONDE Teaser Trailers

Two teaser trailers have been released for Charlize Theron's upcoming action thriller called Atomic Blond. The titillating teasers show Theron kicking some major ass and also getting down and dirty as she shows off her sexy side. This is just a taste of what we'll be seeing in the full red-band trailer that will be released this Friday.

The film comes from John Wick co-director and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, so you can expect the action to be top-notch. Atomic Blonde is based on the Oni Press graphic novel by writer Antony Johnston and illustrator Sam Hart.

Atomic Blonde offers a breakneck action-thriller that follows MI6’s most lethal assassin through a ticking time bomb of a city simmering with revolution and double-crossing hives of traitors.
The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.

The movie also stars John GoodmanTil Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond, The Mummy), and Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger).

Atomic Blonde hits the big screen July 28. It looks like a movie that you wont want to miss!

Fun Trailer for WARRIORS GATE Follows a Gamer Who's Thrust Into an Adventure in Ancient China

I've got a fun trailer for an upcoming action-adventure film called The Warriors Gate for you to check out. The film centers on a teenage gamer from California, played by Uriah Shelton, who is magically transported to China where he must learn to convert his video game skills into those of a Kung Fu warrior. There, he embarks on a journey to save a princess.

What I like about what I'm seeing in this trailer is that it reminds me of those fun yet silly adventure films that I used to watch when I was growing up in the late '80s and early '90s. When you watch the trailer you'll see what I'm talking about. It's also kind of a different spin on the classic film The Last Starfighter

The movie was co-written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark who have worked on the Taken and Transporter franchises. The film also stars Mark ChaoDave BautistaNi NiFrancis Ng, and Sienna Guillory.

There's no word on when it will be released in the U.S. but it looks like a film I'd probably enjoy watching. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think! I also included a poster for the film below.

Janelle Monae Is Reportedly the Frontrunner to Play Domino in DEADPOOL 2

Cable and Domino are both set to appear in Deadpool 2, but neither one of the characters have been cast yet. There have been so many rumors and reports surrounding the casting of these two characters it's crazy! We recently heard that Stranger Things star David Harbour is being considered for the part of Cable.

Today we've learned from The Hashtag Show that Janelle Monae is now the frontrunner for the part of Domino. MacKenzie Davis and Kerry Washington were both previously said to be frontrunners for the character, but I guess they lost their flavor.

Monae is best known for being a singer-songwriter, but she recently had movie roles in Hidden Figures, and Moonlight, and she was great in both of those movies. She's an up and coming actress and a role like this in Deadpool 2 could be awesome for her.

Hopefully, Monae doesn't join Davis and Washington in the bucket of rejected Domino frontrunners!

Following the debut of the new Thor: Ragnarok Entertainment Weekly cover that gave us our first official look at Chris Hemsworth's close-cropped Thor, Tessa Thompson's badass warrior Valkyrie, and Cate Blanchett's dark villain Hela, the magazine has unleashed some new photos that should have all Marvel fans excited — even those, like me, who hated Thor: The Dark World.

We see Jeff Goldblum's amazing vibe as the Grandmaster, an excited embrace between Thor and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, Tom Hiddleston's Loki sipping on a martini, and more. What's your favorite aspect of these photos? For me, it's gotta be Goldblum. What a stud. Man, I hope this movie turns out to be half as promising as these pictures indicate.
