Honest Trailer for MORTAL KOMBAT Tears Apart Fighters Who Can't Act and Actors Who Can't Fight

At long last, Screen Junkies has released an Honest Trailer for the awesome 1995 film adaptation of Mortal Kombat and the horrendously bad 1997 sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. One thing that these movies have in common is that they are full of fighters who can't act and actors who can't fight. The Screen Junkies have a lot of fun hilariously tearing these movies to pieces, and let's be honest, they deserve to be. As much as I enjoyed the first film, it's still pretty awful, but that doesn't mean it's not a really fun and enjoyable movie!

Time Bandits Attempt to Save the Future in Trailer for Netflix's New Series TRAVELERS

time-bandits-attempt-the-save-the-future-in-trailer-for-netflixs-new-series-travelers1

Netflix has released the first trailer for a new, interesting, and original series that they've developed called Travelers. The series stars Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) as an FBI agent who leads a group of time bandit travelers on a mission to save the future. What's interesting about these travelers is that the time traveling is done through a technology that sends their consciousness through time and into another body. The synopsis explains:

Hundreds of years from now, the last surviving humans discover the means of sending consciousness back through time, directly into people in the 21st century. These “travelers” assume the lives of seemingly random people, while secretly working as teams to perform missions in order to save humanity from a terrible future. These travelers are: FBI Special Agent Grant MacLaren (Eric McCormack), the team’s leader; Marcy (Mackenzie Porter), a young, intellectually disabled woman in the care of her social worker, David (Patrick Gilmore); Trevor (Jared Paul Abrahamson), a high school quarterback; Carly (Nesta Marlee Cooper), a single mom in an abusive relationship; and Philip (Reilly Dolman), a heroin-addicted college student. Armed only with their knowledge of history and an archive of social media profiles, the travelers discover that 21st century lives and relationships are as much a challenge as their high-stakes missions.

Netflix is killing it with their original programming! The recently released the film Spectral and the series The OA, both of which were awesome! If you haven't watched either of those yet, make sure to do that! Travelers looks like it could be another fantastic series, and I'm looking forward to checking it out.

The rest of the cast includes Mackenzie Porter, Patrick Gilmore, Jared Paul Abrahamson, Nesta Marlee Cooper, and Reilly Dolman. Travelers is set to premiere on Netflix on December 23rd.

Big STAR WARS REBELS Character Easter Egg Confirmed To Be In ROGUE ONE

There's a big Star Wars Rebels Easter egg that was included in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that has officially been confirmed. Chances are a lot of fans may have missed this Easter egg because they were so engulfed in the awesomeness of the film. This might be considered a spoiler for some fans so if you don't want to know, then don't read ahead.

We already knew that The Ghost made an appearance in the film and it was spotted in one of the trailers that you can see here. We now have confirmation of who was piloting that ship. In Rogue One we hear the following dialogue said over an intercom, "General Syndulla, please report."

The big question is, was he talking to Hera Syndulla or her father Cham? Star Wars Rebels producer Dave Filoni confirms with EW that it's is "absolutely Hera" which means the pilot leader of the Ghost crew is still alive! He says:

“I can clarify that’s absolutely Hera being paged, not her dad. The movie gives that away, but I would rather have all the [references] be right. Hera will eventually become a general in the Rebel Alliance.”

That's pretty awesome news, especially to those who have been following the Star Wars Rebels series. Rebels is set about three years prior to the events in Rogue One, so there is still a lot of story to tell with Hera and the rest of the crew.

Star Wars Rebels returns to Disney XD Saturday, January 7, 2017

Trailer for the Horror Thriller THE AXE MURDERS OF VILLISCA, Inspired by a True Story

A new horror film has been made that is inspired by the horrific true story of a family and their friends who were viciously murdered in 1912 in the Iowa town of Villisca. The film is called The Axe Murders of Villisca, and the murder mystery has never been solved. It's an insane story that would make a great and terrifying horror film. Unfortunately, this movie takes place in the modern da,y and it centers around some friends who are into ghost hunting. I would have much rather seen an authentic period film that tells the actual story because that would be a lot more interesting. I'll still watch this, though, because I've been familiar with this story for years, and I've gotta see how the movie turns out, for better or for worse.

On a June night in 1912, eight people—a mother, father, their four children, and two guests—were murdered by an axe-wielding killer in the sleepy town of Villisca, Iowa, a case that remains unsolved to this day. 104 years later, Caleb (Robert Adamson) and Denny (Jarrett Sleeper), two friends who share an interest in ghost hunting, along with Jess (Alex Frnka), the new girl in school who’s already got a reputation, sneak into the house where the infamous bloodbath occurred in hopes of recording paranormal activity. What the trio encounters is far more horrifying than anything they could have imagined. A century after the shocking crime that put Villisca on the map, a supernatural force is waiting to write the next chapter in the home's bloody history.

The movie comes from director Tony E. Valenzuela, and it will be released on VOD on January 20th, 2017.

"The price of your glory is their suffering."

Director Martin Scorsese has finally a passion project that he has been trying to make for the past 28 years. The film is called Silence, and it's an adaptation of a novel by the same name written by Shûsaku Endô. Judging from the trailers that have been released so far, the film is yet another Scorsese masterpiece. I've heard that this is one of the best films of his career. The movie has an incredibly talented cast that includes Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, and Liam Neeson, and today we have an intense new Japanese trailer to share with you.

Two Jesuit priests, Sebastião Rodrigues and Francis Garrpe, travel to 17th century Japan which has, under the Tokugawa shogunate, banned Catholicism and almost all foreign contact. There they witness the persecution of Japanese Christians at the hands of their own government which wishes to purge Japan of all western influence. Eventually the priests separate and Rodrigues travels the countryside, wondering why God remains silent while His children suffer.

Silence also stars Tadanobu AsanoShin'ya TsukamotoYôsuke KubozukaIssei Ogata, and Yoshi Oida. It opens in theaters on December 23rd.

For a lot of fans, Alan Tudyk's droid character K-S2O was one of the best parts of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He definitely offered some hilarious comic relief throughout the film that managed to get audiences busting up online.

Lucasfilm has released a new featurette for the film that focuses on K-2SO and some of the magic that went into bringing this wonderful character to life. There's a good amount of cool behind-the-scenes footage showing Tudyk running around in his motion capture suit and talking about the character saying that he's the anti C-3PO. Tudyk looks like he was having the time of his life while shooting Rogue One.

wes-anderson-announces-his-new-animated-film-isle-of-dogs-with-cast-test-footage-and-teaser-poster

We've known for awhile that director Wes Anderson was working on a new stop-motion film that revolves around dog characters. He has now officially announced the project, which is titled Isle of Dogs, with a video he released. In that video, he reveals the full voice cast and teases a bit of test footage featuring a dog character played by Edward Norton, who also makes an appearance in the video!

Anderson doesn’t reveal any story details, but he confirms that the cast will include Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, F. Murray Abraham, Tilda Swinton, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Liev Schreiber, Kunichi Nomura, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama, Koyu Rankin, Yoko Ono, and Courtney B. Vance.

Anderson also revealed a teaser poster, which you can see above, featuring a piece of concept art. The movie is obviously going to have some heavy Japanese themes, which should be really cool!

This video was made as a way to promote Martin Scorsese‘s Film Foundation charity, which protects and preserves films from around the world. You can learn more about the charity raffle opportunity at Crowd Rise

Proceeds from Wes’s raffle will go to the Film Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Martin Scorsese dedicated to protecting and preserving motion picture history. By working in partnership with archives and studios, the foundation has helped to restore nearly 700 films, which are made accessible to the public through programming at festivals, museums, and educational institutions around the world. The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project has restored 25 films from 19 different countries representing the rich diversity of world cinema. The foundation’s free educational curriculum, The Story of Movies, teaches young people – over 10 million to date – about film language and history.

Isle of Dogs will likely arrive in 2018.

BLADE RUNNER 2049 Confirmed to Be Rated R, and the Director Talks Lack of Green Screen

These days you never know what kind of ratings we're going to get for films. A lot of studios want to go the PG-13 route so they can target bigger audience to bring in more money. For example Robocop, Total Recall, and Predators were all R-rated films that ended up getting PG-13 follow-up films.

That's not going to happen with the Ridley Scott-produced sequel to Blade Runner, though. Director Denis Villeneuve recently did an interview with Screen Daily and said:

“My producers are finding it fun to remind me that it will be one of the most expensive R-rated independent feature films ever made.”

Not only is the movie rated R, but it's going to be one of the most expensive rated R movies ever made? Impressive. Hopefully, the audience shows up! The director also talked about shooting the film and how he made an active attempt to use as little green screen work as possible during the shooting of the film.

“I can count on my fingers the amount of times we put a green screen on set. Most of the movie was done on camera, me and [cinematographer] Roger Deakins worked very hard to do it that way. My actors were not walking on green screens all day long. CGI is a strong tool for backgrounds and extensions but what is around the actors needs to be as real as possible. When I watch a movie that’s mostly CGI, I’m disengaged.”

Exciting stuff! I loved what I saw of the film in the first teaser trailer. it looked freakin' great, and it definitely got the fans of the original excited for the sequel. It'll be interesting to see where they take the story and the character of Deckard. Blade Runner 2049 arrives on October 6, 2017. Make sure to watch the teaser trailer for the film here!

Stan Lee cameos no longer have the same novelty they once did because they've been consistently happening in blockbuster films for the past ten years, but Lee's latest cameo isn't in a movie at all: it's in the safety video for the Iron Man Experience ride at Hong Kong Disneyland. I wrote about the new ride recently (you can watch a video about it here), but ComicBook points us to this newly-surfaced video of Lee appearing as instructions are being given to riders boarding the ride's "Iron Wing" vehicle. I guess the thinking here is even the hundredth Stan Lee cameo might be enough to liven up those boring safety videos a little bit. Now you can be the judge of whether or not it worked out.

Vin Diesel Vs. Donnie Yen on Motorcycles in XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE Clip

vin-diesel-vs-donnie-yen-on-motorcycles-in-xxx-return-of-xander-cage-clip

Vin Diesel and Donnie Yen face off in a new action-packed clip from xXx: Return of Xander Cage. The two end up getting into a chase sequence through a forest on dirt bikes, which eventually leads them into the ocean where the chase continues as the motorcycles convert into jet skis. It's just a little tease of what kind of over-the-top ridiculousness will be in the movie. I've never been a big fan of this franchise, but it certainly does offer some entertainment.

Extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) comes out of self-imposed exile, thought to be long dead, and is set on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang (Donnie Yen) and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora's Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments.

The film was directed by D.J. Caruso, and it arrives in theaters January 20, 2017.

Fan Art of Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master in James Wan's AQUAMAN

It's not like white guys are hurting for roles in big superhero blockbusters these days, but I was still pleasantly surprised to see that Patrick Wilson was recently cast in the role of Ocean Master (aka Orm Marius) in James Wan's Aquaman. Wilson and Wan have built up a nice working relationship over the past few years, and the actor is one of those guys who's consistently turning in excellent supporting performances with little fanfare. I think he's a much better actor and screen presence than he's often given credit for, and I'm excited that he'll be a part of the upcoming movie.

ComicBookMovie points us to some cool fan art of what Wilson might look like in the part of the movie's villain. BossLogic, the artist behind this piece, is responsible for a ton of superhero-themed fan art, and his stuff often looks way better than what actually hits the big screen. So try not to be too disappointed when Wilson ultimately doesn't look quite this badass when Aquaman hits theaters on October 5, 2018.

In his latest video essay, YouTuber Lessons From The Screenplay (aka Michael Tucker) does a deep dive into Alex Garland's terrific thriller Ex Machina and examines the way information is doled out over the course of the story. He breaks the story down in some interesting ways, too, pointing out that Ava (Alicia Vikander) may be the true protagonist in the movie and providing a fascinating look at the way Garland cut parts of his script in order to construct the story in a way that makes the audience want to know more. The whole thing just makes me want to watch the movie again as soon as I can.

There's a Finished 4K Restoration of STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE! Will It Be Released in Theaters?!

$

Back in 2014 it was revealed that Reliance Media Works was converting the original Star Wars Trilogy to 4K. There haven't really been any updates on that over the years, but fans wondered if one day the 4K restored films would actually be released in theaters.

Thanks to Rogue One director Gareth Edwards, we now know that a 4K version of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope exists. How does he know? Because he actually sat down in a screening room at Lucasfilm and watched it! During an interview with Little White Lies, the director said:

"On day one, we were in Lucasfilm in San Francisco with Industrial Light and Magic and John Knowles, our supervisor, he said that they’ve got a brand new 4K restoration print of A New Hope – it had literally just been finished. He suggested we sit and watch it."

That would have been a pretty awesome experience for any Star Wars fan. The question still remains... Will Disney and Lucasfilm release it in theaters!? They better! They've got one film that was recently completed, and I'm sure they are in the process of finishing up the other two films. Maybe once they are all done Lucasfilm will announce a theatrical re-release.

I would love to see a 4K version of George Lucas' original trilogy before he went in and messed with them. They could release it for its 40th anniversary!
