GOD PARTICLE Star Had No Clue She Was Making a CLOVERFIELD Movie

0
0

A week or so ago, we heard that the J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi film God Particle (which is probably just a temporary working title) is going to be the third entry in the Cloverfield franchise. But that's news to Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the actress who starred in the movie. Production has wrapped, and when ScreenCrush asked how the new movie would fit into the slowly-emerging "Cloververse," she seemed surprised:

I actually have no idea. That is news to me. When I did the project it was a total standalone sci-fi, space thriller. So I couldn’t tell you how it’s connected. I don’t know if that’s just a rumor.

Remember, this is an Abrams-produced project, so secrecy is of the utmost importance. Of course she's not going to let any details slip this early. But this isn't too surprising. If you remove a couple of very small references to companies like Kelvin Gas and Bold Futura from 10 Cloverfield Lane, that movie wouldn't have any direct correlation to the first Cloverfield film from 2008. I imagine this film will feature similarly small connections, maybe even some so small that they could be added digitally in post after production wrapped, theoretically leaving the actors in the dark about what kind of film they were really making.

God Particle is directed by Julis Onah (The Girl Is in Trouble) and stars Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelewo, John Krasinski, Chris O'Dowd, Daniel Bruhl, Ziyi Zhang, and Elizabeth Debicki. It arrives in theaters on February 24, 2017. Here's the synopsis:

After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.

Watch Werner Herzog Get Shot and Act Incredibly Casual About It

If you've ever wondered if Werner Herzog is as mellow and hypnotic as he is when he's not shooting a documentary, wonder no longer. A video circulating on Reddit captures a 2006 scene from The Culture Show in which Herzog takes a particularly savage shot from a pellet gun that breaks through his clothes and into his skin in the midst of the interview!

You totally won't know that until after the fact as Herzog acts as though he just heard a car backfire and continues on like nothing happened! See the strange moment and the even stranger man below. Can we all agree Werner Herzog is a badass?

Ubisoft is in Talks With Netflix For a TV Series

0

It's been a pretty slow news day in the entertainment world so far, so you'll have to forgive me for writing an entire article about a single bit of information from a report in Reuters. But that bit could prove fairly interesting down the line, and the statement in question is that Yves Guillemot, the chairman of video game company Ubisoft, told reporters that the company is "in talks with Netflix over a series."

A Ubisoft TV series, hmm? OK, so naturally the question becomes "what game are they considering adapting for the small screen?" With the Assassin's Creed movie finally coming out next month, there's a chance they could be looking into a spin-off series to keep that franchise alive between sequels (assuming it performs well enough to earn one). With games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, The Division, Watch Dogs, and more being eyed for the big screen, that only leaves a few Ubisoft properties left for TV. Far Cry, Call of Juarez, and Rainbow Six have potential, and since this is Netflix we're talking about, I wouldn't even put it past them to maybe develop a children's show around a game like Just Dance that's specifically designed to keep kids active and entertained.

Which game do you think is the best fit for a TV series?

Video: 10 Different Ways Indiana Jones Used His Whip

This video is a little bit old, but I'm just catching up with it and figured some of you may not have seen it yet. YouTuber My VCR is Not Dead put together this countdown video of ten different ways archaeologist badass Indiana Jones uses his whip in the four films in the franchise so far. I hadn't really considered the true versatility of Jones' iconic weapon of choice until this video, but seeing all of its uses back to back like this is pretty impressive.

THE DUELIST Trailer: A Russian Gunfighter Leaves a Trail of Bodies in His Wake

0
0

I'd never heard of The Duelist before, but Sony Pictures has just unveiled a full trailer for the upcoming foreign film that looks pretty damn cool. It's set in 1800s Russia and follows an incredibly effective gunfighter who stands in as a duelist for nobles whose honor is slighted by others. But things take a turn when he falls for the sister of a young prince.

This movie looks crazy expensive, with some gorgeous sweeping landscape shots and rad-looking costumes, and it feels a little like a cross between a period romance and an almost steampunk-style take on something like The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm interested to hear what you all think about this trailer.

The Duelist is written and directed by Alexey Mizgirev, and it stars Petr Fedorov, Vladimir Mashkov, Martin Wuttke, Julia Khlynina, Yuri Kolokolnikov, and Franziska Petri. It hits theaters on December 2, 2016.

This deceptively glossy production is also a highly proficient and effective epic set in 19th-century Czarist Russia. It focuses on a handsome, ruthless protagonist who is a professional duellist at a time when the nobility settled disputes and slights against honour by taking up swords or pistols against each other in highly regulated rituals. There was a strict code of behavior applied to the practice of duelling; one rule was that a substitute was allowed, another was that nobles would fight only fellow nobles. Both conditions are central to this film's narrative.

Returning to Saint Petersburg after a long exile, the dashing Yakovlev, a retired army officer, makes a comfortable living by winning other people's duels. An enigmatic, focused, and extremely skilled professional, he leaves a trail of dead bodies behind him as he swirls through polite society, frequently called upon to wield a pistol as a surrogate in duels at dawn. But when Yakovlev meets the naïve young Prince Tuchov and his beautiful sister, Princess Martha, the normally cold-hearted mercenary is surprised by hitherto undetected emotions. What transpires uncovers a series of revelations about his past and his present self.

Employing a cast whose credits include films such as Stalingrad, Inglourious Basterds, Game of Thrones, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, director Alexey Mizgirev relishes in the twists and turns of a story where the surprises come thick and fast. Featuring exceptional art direction, costume design, and cinematography, The Duelist delivers an engrossing story set against both the glittery high society of aristocratic Russia and a shadowy netherworld of ambition.

PACIFIC RIM 2 Title Confirmed as Filming Begins

If you only look at domestic grosses, the fact that we're getting a sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 robots vs. kaiju movie Pacific Rim is nothing short of astonishing. The film only pulled in $101 million in the United States, and with a reported budget of $190 million, that's not great. But overseas, it outperformed most predictions, pulling in an additional $309 million. So a sequel was greenlit, and now, three years later, production is finally underway.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega, who's been cast as the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost in the sequel, revealed that filming started today and finally confirmed the long-rumored title of the new movie:

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here's to a great adventure ahead ✌🏿

A photo posted by BOYEGA (@jboyega_) on

So Pacific Rim: Maelstrom it is.

We know the movie stars Boyega and newcomer Cailee Spaeny, and though del Toro (who's producing while Steven S. DeKnight directs) has said that "a lot" of the first film's cast will return, we know Charlie Hunnam won't be coming back and I feel like chances are pretty small Elba will show up in anything beyond a quick cameo if at all. The film arrives in theaters on February 23, 2018.

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS Gets New Photos; Trailer Coming Tomorrow

It's been a long time since I've really looked forward to a Luc Besson movie (I wasn't crazy about his Scarlett Johansson mind-bender Lucy), but Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has changed that. I'm legitimately excited to see what he does with this sci-fi property, partly because it's been a passion project of his for years, and partly because it's Besson getting back to his genre roots and making something that looks bigger and crazier than anything he's made before. Check out a few new photos below.

Valerian pic 1.jpg
Valerian pic 2.jpg

Meanwhile, EW has a piece about Rihanna's appearance in the film, saying that she inhabits several personas in her twenty minutes of screen time. You can read the whole thing here, and check out a new gif and a pic of the star below:

A teaser package for the movie had a very impressive reaction at Comic-Con, and a new trailer is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so we'll be back when that happens to take a deeper look at what Besson has in store for us.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.
Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time, uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

Zendaya Addresses Those SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Mary Jane Watson Rumors, Says Fans are "Making S#^t Up"

0
0

Remember those rumors about Zendaya playing Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming? Well, it doesn't sound to me like she's playing that character at all. In fact, she's not even playing a love interest in the story. The young actress recently addressed those rumors in an interview with THR, and she completely debunked them:

"People are going to react over anything.  But nothing [about my role] is fact. It’s like, you guys are just making s#^t up at this point and then reacting to it. Whenever we were on set, one of us gets some random character name [on the call sheet]. [Bloggers were] like, 'Oh they must be so and so.' And we just crack up about it, because it’s like, 'Whatever you want to think. You’ll find out.' It’s funny to watch the guessing game."

So unless she's trying to throw us off the scent, I seriously doubt she will be playing Mary Jane Watson. I think there's a good chance that Watson won't even be in the film. She described her character and it doesn't sound like Watson at all.

"My character is not romantic. My character is like very dry, awkward, intellectual and because she’s so smart, she just feels like she doesn’t need to talk to people, like 'My brain is so far ahead of you that you’re just not really on my level.' So she comes off very weird. But to me, she is very cool because she’s deep. She’s always thinking about something, always reading."

When the rumor first broke regarding Zendaya's character, there were a few things about it that didn't make sense to me. You can read my reasons why in the article I wrote up here

Sounds to me like this could be a completely different character, and if it is a version of Watson, the character has obviously been completely reimagined. Either way, the character in no way represents the version of Watson in the comics.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7, 2017.

The 10 Most Popular Paused Movie Scenes

0
0

As fans who enjoy watching movies, I know that we've all paused movies at a certain point to get a better look at something. Screen Rant has compiled a list of the ten most paused scenes in movies ever. Some of those films include The Wolf of Wall Street, Star Wars, Jurassic World, Basic Instinct, Iron Man, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Fight Club. Watch the video below and let us know if you've ever found yourself pausing any of these scenes.

Going to the movie theater is an experience unlike any other, but many people enjoy watching films in the comfort of their own home. In the living room, you’re in complete control, being able to fast-forward through the boring scenes, rewind to watch that awesome part again, and hit the pause button whenever you choose. Especially today with shared movie universes and crossovers becoming the norm, Easter eggs are more prevalent than ever in major Hollywood productions, and it’s easier to dissect each frame of the picture when you can freeze it for as long as you like. Sometimes, your eyes need to make sure they really saw what you thought. Here are 10 most paused scenes in popular movies.

Is the New JUMANJI Film Inspired by THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME?

is-the-new-jumanji-film-inspired-by-the-most-dangerous-game2

Dwayne Johnson released a new photo of himself riding on a motorcycle while killing "evil shit" with a flame thrower in the new Jumanji. The photo came with an interesting note that offers a hint that the story for the movie was at least inspired by Richard Connell's 1924 short story, "The Most Dangerous Game." The actor said:

"Check out this bad ass custom made flame thrower that's secured with metal grips under my forearm giving me more leverage to drive my motorcycle with one arm - and kill evil shit with my other. Apparently it's also a good night to burn the hell outta my arm. Again. #OnLocation #HawaiianJungles #TheMostDangeeousGameOfAll #JUMANJI Dope shot taken by "the eye" himself.. @masistills"

Why would he use the #TheMostDangeeousGameOfAll if it didn't mean anything? For those of you that aren't familiar with the story, it's about humans hunting and killing humans for sport. Why? Because people are "the most dangerous game."

So will people be hunting other people for sport in the film? Well... yeah! That harkens back to the original film! Remember the crazy poacher Van Pelt who was unleashed from the game into the modern world? He was all about hunting down and trying to kill Alan (Robin Williams) and the two kids.

Before that, Alan spent years in the jungle of the game fighting to survive. Alan says that he was constantly being hunted by this guy, but we never saw what it was truly like for him. This new Jumanji film will take us inside the game. I imagine this means that everyone sucked into the game is being hunted by other humans.

Johnson also previously talked about Willams' character, Alan, and said, "we will honor his name and the character of 'Alan Parrish' will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud."

This makes me wonder if maybe there is a possibility that they will cross paths with Alan somehow in the game? I have no idea how that might work, but I believe it's a possibility. I might be reading way too much into this, but it would be fun! We'll definitely get an idea of what it was like for Alan when he was forced to survive in the jungle in the game.

Jumanji is set to hit theaters on December 22, 2017. For additional news on Jumanji's plot, click here.

"Buckle up, and enjoy the Ride!"

Comic-Con HQ has released the trailer for Mark Hamill's upcoming new series, Pop Culture Quest. In the series, Hamill takes us on a journey as he explores the most exclusive pop culture collections in the world. Some of the collections are teased in this trailer, and they are absolutely insane! I collect a lot of geeky shit, but nothing compares to what I'm seeing in this preview.

This looks like it will be a fun show to watch, especially if you're into checking out some hardcore geek collections! Hamill also interviews the people behind these massive and rare collections. I love that Hamill ends the trailer using his legendary Joker voice. I also think it's cool that he's wearing his crew jacket from Batman: The Animated Series

Join Mark on his quest to track down the rumored rocket-firing Boba Fett, the original Time Machine, the last surviving armature model used to animate the original 1933 King Kong, the 1992 Batmobile, and so much more! Mark travels inside pop culture’s vaults to uncover why we are so fascinated with collecting and what our collections say about us.

Pop Culture Quest premieres on Comic-Con HQ on November 15th.

Moving New Trailer for Will Smith's COLLATERAL BEAUTY

Another trailer has been released for Will Smith's intriguing new drama Collateral Beauty. In the film, he plays a successful New York advertising executive who suffers a great tragedy when he loses his daughter. According to the story description, this event causes him to retreat from life and "while his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. But it’s not until his notes bring unexpected personal responses that he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived, and how even the deepest loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty."

This seems like such a fascinating and powerful film, and it's one that I'm very interested in watching. I love it when Smith does these kinds of dramatic movies, and he is joined by an impressive supporting cast that includes Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Michael Pena, and Naomi Harris.

Collateral Beauty opens in theaters on December 16th. Who knows, maybe this will be the film that ends up nabbing him an Oscar nomination.

The Remake of TROLLHUNTER Is Said to be Dead

0

Back in 2011, the great Norwegian horror/adventure film Trollhunter was set to be remade for U.S. audiences. Producer Chris Columbus picked up the rights the remake, and director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion, Game of Thrones) was set to direct it.

During a recent interview with Birth.Movies.Death, the director of the original film, André Øvredal, was asked where the remake currently stands, and he revealed that it's dead. He explained:

"I don’t know exactly [what happened]. I was very happy with what I read; I never communicated with anybody about it, but I read on-line that Neil Marshall was attached to direct it, and I was like, ‘OK, I can get behind that,’ and then suddenly it didn’t happen. I believe that just after signing up for Trollhunter, Neil got too busy with Game of Thrones, and that’s what stopped it; that seems to be the case, anyway, and then it just kind of died."

So, he blames the death of the film on Marshall's involvement with Game of Thrones. I'm not sure why the producers just didn't replace him, but maybe it came to the point where they just chose not to move forward with it. I'm sure that will make fans of the original film happy. When the remake of Trollhunter was initially announced, Columbus said:

"Trollhunter was a visceral, thrilling cinematic rock and roller coaster ride of a movie. Visually, there are scenes in this film that American audiences have never seen. We want to introduce an International audience to this amazing moviegoing experience!"

He seemed pretty excited about it! I guess there may have been too many issues in trying to get it into production along the way. Who knows, maybe one day they'll move forward with it, but it's obviously not going to be happening anytime soon.

Spectacularly Awesome Trailer for Luc Besson's Sci-Fi Film VALERIAN

I was completely blown away by the footage that was screened at Comic-Con for director Luc Besson's new sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Now you get a chance to see some of the footage for yourself in  the first official trailer to be released for the epic-looking adventure. Seriously, this movie looks insanely stunning!

The movie is based on a French comic book series that was written by Pierre Christin with art by Jean-Claude Mézières, and Besson seems to have taken it and created something big, exciting, and awesome!

The movie stars Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad), and this is the synopsis that was released:

Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner — blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.

Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

The film also has a great supporting cast that includes John GoodmanRihannaRutger Hauer, and Ethan Hawke. It's set to be released in theaters on July 21, 2017, and I honestly cannot wait to see it! This looks like it going to be one hell of a fun flick!

First Look at Kong From KONG: SKULL ISLAND and He Looks Pissed Off

first-look-at-kong-from-kong-skull-island-and-he-looks-pissed-off2

Legendary Pictures has released a new photo from Kong: Skull Island giving us our first good look at Kong, and he sure doesn't look happy. I've been curious about what Kong would look like and now that I've seen it... he looks like Kong! The biggest difference about this latest version is the fact that he is a lot bigger than any other previous Kong we've seen.

The image was posted on EW along with a lengthy interview with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer). He discussed the film and talked about the details of coming up with this new version of the giant creature. One of the things he talked about was eyes of Kong's eyes and how they are the window to the soul and they wanted to convey that he's a tragic hero through them. Talking about his artistic vision for Kong, the director explained:

"With Kong, there’s been obviously so many different versions of him in the past and ours needed to feel unique to our film. I had a mandate that I wanted a kid to be able to doodle him on the back of a piece of homework and for his shapes to be simple and hopefully iconic enough that, like, a third grader could draw that shape and you would know what it is. A big part of our Kong was I wanted to make something that gave the impression that he was a lonely God, he was a morose figure, lumbering around this island.
"We sort of went back to the 1933 version in the sense that he’s a bipedal creature that walks in an upright position, as opposed to the anthropomorphic, anatomically correct silverback gorilla that walks on all fours. Our Kong was intended to say, like, this isn’t just a big gorilla or a big monkey. This is something that is its own species. It has its own set of rules, so we can do what we want and we really wanted to pay homage to what came before…and yet do something completely different.
"There’s subtle nods. [The ’33 film] was black and white, so it’s really easy to assume that the fur on the monkey is black, but there’s actually a lot of forums and things that you read and there’s some real poster artwork where Kong’s fur skews more brownish, so we actually pushed his fur in more of a brown as opposed to the traditional black. It really was trying to create this feeling so that when these humans look up at him, they hopefully have a visceral response, saying to themselves, ‘That’s a God, I’m looking at a God.’"

This is just a small part of a much longer interview, and if you're excited about the film and looking to learn more about the director's vision for it, make sure to click here

The story for the new film is set in the 1970s and follows a team of explorers who venture deep into the treacherous, primordial island to find the leader's brother and a mythical serum, confronting extraordinary creatures along the way.

The movie stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman. It's set to be released on March 10th, 2017.
