One of the most anticipated episodes of The Flash this season is the one that was directed by Kevin Smith. It’s called “The Runaway Dinosaur” and today we have a promo trailer for you to watch along with a collection of photos. This has been a great and intense season so far and with this next episode coming up, it looks like it’s going to get even better.

Smith has also been set to direct another episode of The Flash in Season 3. According to ComicBook.com, “everyone from producers to the cast expressed delight at working with him, and hoped that he would return for more episodes next year.” Well, I guess they’re going to get their chance.

KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS – With Barry (Grant Gustin) gone, the team must figure out a way to handle the return of an old enemy – Girder (guest star Greg Finley).  Realizing Girder is retracing his steps from his last attack, Iris (Candice Patton) volunteers to act as bait to trap him in S.T.A.R. Labs.  Meanwhile, Barry fights to return to his old life.

“The Runaway Dinosaur” set to air next Tuesday, May 10th at 8:00 pm on The CW.

TRIAL is a Captivating Sci-Fi Short About Mind Transfering

I've got a fantastic sci-fi short film for you to watch today called Trial sent into us by The Brothers Lynch, who are the creators of this mesmerizing and cinematic film. The star follows a pioneering mind transfer procedure that offers a quadriplegic solider the chance of a new life... but it comes at a terrible cost.

This is a fantastic short and there's a three minute POV mirror shot that the filmmakers say was done all in camera with no VFX, which, as you will see, is a pretty impressive feat. If you want to see how they actually pulled it off, I included a video explanation below from the filmmakers.

This 15-minute short film is a teaser for the debut feature film that the brothers are currently developing called Residual. It is scheduled to start shooting later this year. I can't wait to see how that turns out because this short is freakin' awesome. Check it out!

Kevin Feige Shares His Thoughts on DEADPOOL, R-Rated Marvel Film, and Solo HULK Movie

A lot of people were shocked by how well Deadpool did at the box office. Not even Fox was expecting to see that happen. They didn’t think it would do very well, which is why they didn’t do anything with it for so long. Well, Tim Miller, Ryan Reynolds, and the creative team of the movie sure did prove them wrong. Now the studio has a whole new moneymaking franchise on their hands!

During an interview with Deadline, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared his thoughts on the film, and he understands exactly why it connected with critics and audiences. In case you’re wondering if Marvel Studios will ever develop an R-rated movie, he says there have been no discussions about it, and explains:

"No, we’ve not had any specific conversations about that. And that is only part of the takeaway from Deadpool. The thing that Deadpool shows is, when you present something unique to an audience, they will respond to it. When you present something as popular as a superhero character, in a different and unique and crazy way as they did in Deadpool, it demands attention and audiences went to it. They pulled it off. Tim Miller did a tremendous job. The other secret, and why it’s still a secret, I don’t know, but they just took what Deadpool is in the comics. He breaks the fourth wall. He talks into the camera. He doesn’t give a sh*t about any of the other heroes. He doesn’t take anything seriously. All of that is what made Deadpool so popular in the comics. Tim and his writers and Ryan Reynolds were able to get that and even magnify that up on the big screen. We’ve always said if there’s any 'secret' it’s respect the source material, understand the source material and then, any adaptation you make from the source material should be done only to enhance whatever the original pure spirit of the source material was. Deadpool hit on all cylinders with that."

The closest thing that I think we’ll ever get to an R-rated Marvel production is what we are seeing in the Netflix series with Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Those have been pretty brutal, and I’m sure that will continue with Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. I’m ok with Marvel Studios making PG-13 movies with the characters they’ve been working with. It works.

Then the Hulk came up. Fans would obviously love to see a solo Hulk film, but due to the rights issues, that’s not going to happen unless Marvel and Universal can work out some kind of deal. Feige explains:

"Well, those are contractual things that I’m not entirely attuned to. Disney and Universal would need to come to an agreement to allow Marvel to do a standalone Hulk film for Disney. What’s so great, and as you just said, Ruffalo lights up any room he’s in, any Twitter feed he’s engaged in and any movie that he’s in. It’s just a great pleasure to have him in The Avengers films and as you know his next appearance will be in Thor: Ragnarok, which is a whole other type of fun Hulk adventure for him that we can’t wait to get started on."

We might not be getting a solo Hulk film anytime soon, but at least they still get to play with him in the universe. It sounds like we’re going to get to see plenty of the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok. It might be the most screen time the character will have had in any Marvel film so far.

First Look at Clayface in GOTHAM and Fish Mooney Is Returning!

Fox has released a bunch of photos from the upcoming episode of Gotham, “A Legion of Horribles,” and they give us our first look at Basil Karlo, a.k.a. Clayface. The character is being played by Brian McManamon. We also have a synopsis for the episode revealing that Jada Pinkett-Smith will be returning as Fish Mooney!

Hugo Strange welcomes a familiar face to GOTHAM after he resurrects Fish Mooney in Indian Hill. Later, Bruce discovers a friend is in danger and teams up with Gordon, Alfred and Lucius, while uncovering more of Strange’s experiments.

This has been a fantastic season. So much has happened that I didn’t expect, and there’s still more to come! I’m excited that we’ll finally get to see Clayface. We already knew he would eventually make his way into the series.

Clayface was created by Bob Kane, and the character made his first appearance in Detective Comics in 1940. A lot of people were first introduced to Clayface in Batman: The Animated Series, but here’s some background info on the character thanks to ComicBook.com:

He was a once-famous actor who went insane with rage when he learned that The Terror, a classic horror film he starred in, was being remade without him. To exact his revenge, Karlo dressed up as the film's villain, Clayface, and killed members of the cast in the order in which their characters died in the film.
At that time, Karlo didn't possess any super-powers, but that all changed when he reappeared in 1989's "The Mud Pack" story arc of Detective Comics. The four-part series featured Karlo joining forces with the other incarnations of Clayface — Preston Payne, Matt Hagen and Sondra Fuller — to take down Batman. After they were defeated, Karlo imbued himself with shape-shifting abilities by taking samples from his downed allies (who he tricked) and injecting the samples into himself.

“Wrath of the Villains: A Legion of Horribles” will air on Monday, May 16th on FOX.

Has Sharon Stone Been Cast in Marvel's ANT MAN AND THE WASP?

Actress Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct, Catwoman) recently appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden and confirmed that she will be appearing in an upcoming Marvel movie.

Captain America: Civil War star Sebastian Stan was also a guest on the show the same night as Stone, and just for the hell of it, Corden asked Stone if she would ever consider being a part of a Marvel movie. This was how the conversation went down:

Stone: “I am going to do a Marvel movie.”
Corden: “Is this some kind of exclusive?”
Stone: “I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.”

Both Cordon and Stan were pretty surprised by the news. There is no other information on who she will be playing or what film she will appear in. There’s always a chance that the “wee” role she’s talking about could end up actually being a big role, and she just didn’t want to disclose too much or make it into a big deal until some kind of official announcement.

By using the word "wee," it also immediately made me think she’s going to be in Ant-Man and The Wasp and that she will be playing Janet Van Dyne, who is the wife of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym and the mother of Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne. Stone and Douglas once shared the screen together in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct, so it would be awesome to see them reunite in a Marvel film! Stone as Janet is just too perfect to pass up on.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Whenever they get a big actor on board like this, it’s never really just a “wee” role.

Two new photos have surfaced of Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. We’ve got one photo of Fassbender kicking ass in the 15th century, and another photo of him of him strapped up and looking like he’s going to be put to death by lethal injection! This looks like it’s going to be an intense movie!

The story follows a character named Callum Lynch who, “through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.”

The movie is being directed by Justin Kurrzel (Macbeth), and Fassbender will be joined by Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael K. Williams (The Wire), Jeremy Irons (The Borgias), and Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow).

Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21st, 2016. If you want to read a lengthy, detailed description of the upcoming trailer for this film, click here.

Kevin Feige Says The Ancient One Casting in DOCTOR STRANGE Was a Creative Decision Not Political

kevin-feige-says-the-ancient-one-casting-in-doctor-strange-was-a-creative-decision-not-political

I know a lot of people are upset about the Tilda Swinton being cast as The Ancient One in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Personally, I think the explanation that The Ancient One is “a title that is not exclusively held by any one character, but rather a moniker passed down through time, and in this particular film the embodiment is Celtic,” is kinda cool.

Marvel has been switching things up with some of their characters since they started, and I thought this decision was bold and unique. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently talked to Deadline about the controversy, and he wants to make it very clear that the studio does not get involved in politics when making casting decisions and that this was purely a creative decision:

"We make all of our decisions on all of our films, and certainly on Doctor Strange, for creative reasons and not political reasons. That’s just always been the case. I’ve always believed that it is the films themselves that will cross all borders and really get people to identify with these heroes, and that always comes down to creative and not political reasons. The casting of The Ancient One was a major topic of conversation in the development and the creative process of the story. We didn’t want to play into any of the stereotypes found in the comic books, some of which go back as far as 50 years or more. We felt the idea of gender swapping the role of The Ancient One was exciting. It opened up possibilities, it was a fresh way into this old and very typical storyline. Why not make the wisest bestower of knowledge in the universe to our heroes in the particular film a woman instead of a man? We made changes to some of the other key characters in the comic for similar reasons. Specifically, casting Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo and there’s a character named Wong, who is a very big part of comics, and we cast this amazing Asian actor [Benedict Wong] and modernized that role and his talents people will begin to see as materials on the film begin to come out."

Feige goes on to say that he loves that the conversation is happening, though, and that he and the rest of the Marvel team are listening to what fans to say, which is something they’ve always been good at.

"The truth is, the conversation that’s taking place around this is super-important. It’s something we are incredibly mindful of. We cast Tilda out of a desire to subvert stereotypes, not feed into them. I don’t know if you saw [Doctor Strange director] Scott Derrickson’s tweet the other day. He said we’re listening and we’re learning, every day. That really is true. As long as we’re starting on this topic, it means so much to us that people know that. We also know that people expect actions and not words in a Q&A, and I’m hopeful that some of our upcoming announcements are going to show that we’ve been listening."

I completely respect whatever your stance on the issue of this casting controversy is. I’m just excited about this Doctor Strange movie! He’s one of my favorite Marvel characters, and from what I’ve seen so far it looks incredible! The movie is set to open in theaters on November 4th.

Explanation of How Tony Stark Knew About Spider-Man in CIVIL WAR

explanation-of-how-tony-stark-knew-about-spider-man-in-civil-war

Just in case you’ve been wondering how exactly Tony Stark knew about Peter Parker being Spider-Man, we have some information from writer Christopher Markus, who worked on Captain America: Civil War.

SPOILERS ahead if you haven’t seen in the movie yet:

In the story, Tony Stark makes a surprising visit to Spider-Man’s home in Queens and recruits him to fight on his side against Team Cap. This leads to one of the greatest and most action-packed superhero battle scenes ever put on film.

So how exactly did Stark know about Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man? During an interview with ComicBook.com Markus offered a pretty cool explanation.

"I think he's been keeping tabs. I think he might know about everybody."

I imagine when he says “everybody” it also means the characters in the Netflix series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher. I mean, how can he not know about those guys, right? He continued:

"Tony has A.I. somewhere running crime statistics. He can see where it's going up and heroes might be needed and where it's going down and there might be heroes. It's why he built Ultron in the first place."

It’s not hard to imagine that Stark is going to be the one who brings all of these heroes together for the epic battle in the upcoming Infinity War films. The one thing about this explanation is that Stark didn’t know about Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man. If he had been keeping tabs on superheroes he would have definitely heard about him, especially with the kind of technology involved with Ant-Man.

We know Iron Man is going to show up again in Spider-Man, and maybe, just maybe, he’ll make an appearance in some of the other Marvel films leading up to Infinity War. That would definitely be a pleasant surprise.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Gets an Amazing James Bond-Style Opening Credits Sequence

the-empire-strikes-back-gets-an-amazing-james-bond-style-opening-credits-sequence

Wanna see something cool? You've gotta check out this James Bond-style opening credits sequence for Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back! This badass video was created by Kurt Rauffer, and it's definitely a unique thing to see for a Star Wars film. As you know, there's a signature style to all of the opening's of the Star Wars films, and it's something that may never be changed. It's cool to see the fans play with it a bit and show us some alternative styles. The creator of the video offered the following thoughts on his creation:

Star Wars is one of Hollywood's biggest franchises to date, containing one of the most unique universes in sci-fi fiction. Not only is the universe incredibly iconic, so is it's title sequence (the famous title crawl). Designed by Dan Perri, the title sequence is one of the most recognizable introductions in the history of film.
Growing up in the 90s where Star Wars was released on VHS, the franchise really sparked my imagination as a child. It not only let me exercise my imagination but also supplied me with some of the happiest memories as I watched it with my family. After re-watching "The Empire Strikes Back," I decided to use this as a chance to create a homage in the form of a title sequence. This would also serve as my senior "thesis" at SVA and took me the whole semester to complete.
The style and tone of the animation was inspired by the James Bond title sequences. The music was a rejected song from the newest Bond film, Spectre, sung by Radiohead. I really wanted to play on the concept of Luke trying to find himself and true purpose, so the music and inspiration felt fitting.

Watch the fan-made sequence below and let us know what you think!

The Next X-MEN Film Confirmed To Be Set in The 1990s

With X-Men: First Class taking place in the 1960s, X-Men: Days of Future Past primarily taking place in the 1970s, and X-Men: Apocalypse being set in the 1980s, it was only safe to assume that the X-Men film after that would take place in the 1990s. Well, writer/producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that in an interview with ComingSoon:

“The next one is set in the ’90s."

It's not specified whether this will be Bryan Singer's next X-Men film or Josh Boone's New Mutants movie. Who knows, maybe it will be both! I spent my teenage years in the '90s reading X-Men comics that featured that art of Jim Lee. There are so many great X-Men comics to come out of that era. On top of that, there was the fan-favorite animated series.

I freakin' loved the early '90s and I'm excited to see that era represented in film again —especially an X-Men film! It looks like they are going to get the style of the '80s right with Apocalypse, and it'll be fun to see how they play with the '90s.

I'm sure the entire site is just as psyched as I am that Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne for a self-titled feature. Turns out Damon himself is just as excited as the rest of us! THE MUPPETS Director James Bobin Essentially Confirms He's Directing The MEN IN BLACK/JUMP STREET Crossover

$

That Men in Black/Jump Street crossover movie (recently titled MIB 23) is actually happening over at Sony, and in a new interview with Collider, director James Bobin basically confirms that he'll be the one to bring it to life.

Our comments section has been mixed about this news ever since we first started writing about the idea, but I have to say: this sounds like a ton of fun. I'm a huge fan of the Jump Street movies (under masterminds Phil Lord and Chris Miller, they struck the perfect balance of cheesy, funny, touching, and meta), and I think the Men in Black movies are in serious need of an overhaul after two forgettable sequels, so an injection of Schmidt and Jenko sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

Bobin — who directed The Muppets, Da Ali G Show, and Flight of the Conchords — seems like an excellent fit for this kind of comedy, and I'm excited to see what he does with this crossover. (I'll try not to hold Alice Through The Looking Glass, which looks like a pile of hot garbage, against him.) He's super impressed with this script, and think about it — when was the last time you saw a studio do something as wonderfully random as combine two of its non-superhero properties for no reason? At the very least, it'll be a fascinating experiment, and I hope they can pull it off. As Bobin says in the interview below, filming is expected to begin at the end of this year.

Warning: spoilers ahead for season 6, episode 3 of Game of Thrones, entitled "Oathbreaker." If you haven't seen the episode yet, turn back now.

This season, I'm going to try to write up some quick thoughts about each episode the day after it airs. I won't get too deep into full-on recaps (you can find those all over the internet, and you've probably already read a few today if you're into that sort of thing) and will instead focus on what I consider to be each episode's best moments. This can be as many or as few as I want, and will likely vary every episode — today, it's three. I'll also toss in some additional observations that don't fit into the "best moments" category, which you can find at the bottom of the post. 3. Arya's Sight Restored

There's only so much I can take of Arya getting the crap kicked out of her by the waif, especially after her (let's face it) pretty boring season last year. So I'm very thankful the show only devoted three episodes to her blindness, and pretty much sped through her training in a montage this week. What is she going to do now that she has her sight back? Is this the end of her training, or does she still have more to do in order to become one of the Faceless Men? And what will she do once she officially becomes one of them? Remember, Needle is still hidden in the rocks outside the House of Black and White, so I'm guessing (hoping) Cersei, The Mountain, or Walder Frey will meet their end at her hands. Here's hoping her plotline continues to move forward at this pace for the rest of the season.

2. Jon's Revenge

Jon Snow, resurrected at the end of last week's episode, spends most of the episode shell-shocked. But by the end, he takes his revenge and hangs the Night's Watch members who stabbed him, including that son of a bitch Olly. Then he gives command of Castle Black to Edd and stalks off like a badass, dropping the one-liner "My watch has ended" as the episode cuts to credits. How long will he spend out on his own before he returns to them? It seems like he needs their army if he's going to battle Ramsay Bolton, and I'm excited to see how Jon grapples with his resurrection. I have a friend who thinks that the show should have saved Jon's return until the end of this season, but I'm convinced Jon has far too much to do this year; it should be fun to see what actions he takes in order for the story to justify the decision to bring him back to life.

1. Bran's Flashback

This scene was heaven for those who've read the books. Seeing a young Ned Stark, Howland Reed (Meera's father), and their crew battle Ser Arthur Dayne (nicknamed "The Sword of the Morning," and one of the best swordsmen in Westeros) was totally awesome: excellently shot, perfectly choreographed, and wonderfully executed on every level. The only thing I was bummed about was that the Three Eyed Raven took Bran out of the vision before Ned could reunite with his sister Lyanna, who is up in that tower. (What happens there is the source of a major fan theory, and it seems like the show is going to slowly reveal pieces of that theory across this whole season before the ultimate unveiling.) Plus, even though the Raven tells Bran that he can't interact with the past, it seemed pretty clear that young Ned heard Bran call out to him, so I'm excited to see how Bran influences past, present, and future events as this season progresses.

Additional Observations

Tormund talking about the size of Jon's "pecker" was hilarious.

Props to Peter Dinklage for doing a lot with a little this week. His interactions with Grey Worm and Missandei were pretty funny, and I'm curious if Varys will be able to keep his network of "little birds" communicating effectively from halfway around the world; it already looks like his King's Landing faction has been commandeered by Qyburn.

It was nice to see Sam and Gilly again, however briefly. I wasn't the biggest fan of their characters when they were cooped up in Castle Black, but now that they're off on their own heading to Oldtown (by way of Horn Hill), they've become a much more interesting pair to me.

I think it's safe to say that Dany isn't going to become a full-fledged member of the dosh khaleen — or if she does, she won't be one for long. I'm hoping she only spends another episode or two dealing with that particular storyline before she breaks free (or is rescued).

I really enjoyed the way Smalljon Umber refused to play Ramsay Bolton's political games, but his "gift" has dark connotations for what's to come. We haven't seen Rickon Stark since...what, season 2? But things are not looking good for that kid these days now that he's in the sadistic hands of the new Lord Bolton.

I despise the High Sparrow, but you've gotta give him credit for the way he de-escalated the situation when Tommen barged in on him. The scene starts with two sets of soldiers steps away from a brawl, and by the end, the Sparrow has Tommen seated next to him on a bench and basically agreeing with everything he says. Say what you will about that dude, but he's a master manipulator. I hope he gets his comeuppance quickly.
