WOLVERINE 3 May End Up With An R Rating

$

Deadpool's making some serious money at the box office, so it's easy to imagine the executives at 20th Century Fox looking at all of that cash rolling in and frantically trying to figure out how to rework their upcoming superhero slate in order to try to recreate that success. One movie for which that tactic would actually sort of make sense is Wolverine 3, Hugh Jackman's final solo movie as the beloved X-Men character.

According to a photo on Reddit — read: take this with a giant grain of salt, because it could be Photoshopped — Fox had some marketing materials on display during their Toy Fair presentation, and this was one of them (notice the potential rating in the bottom right corner):

Bumping the film up to an R-rating would allow James Mangold to really go all out in depicting Wolverine's berserker rage, and the added violence would separate this from the other movies in the series. And since Jackman started out playing this character sixteen years ago, maybe Fox would be OK with missing out on some of the younger crowd with a PG-13 and instead catering to those who have been following Jackman's journey as this character from the beginning.

Again, we're certainly not taking this as confirmation, but as a hint that an R-rated Wolverine movie might be possible. Fans have been wanting to see that for a long time now, so it'd be nice if Fox granted that wish for Jackman's last stand.

Boba Fett Battles Indegestion in STAR WARS Art By DanLuVisiArt

I love that no one subscribes to the fact that Boba Fett was eaten by the Sarlacc in Return of The Jedi. Of course in the EU we know he escapes, but seeing as that hasn't yet officially been revealed in the films, it's no longer considered canon. That said, I really appreciate this artwork by DanLuVisi. Whether he escaped or not, we can all agree that Fett wasn't about to go down without a fight!

During the press junket for the upcoming sports drama Eddie the Eagle, star Hugh Jackman was surprised to find Ryan Reynolds in the interview chair opposite him. Reynolds crashed the junket and asked Jackman a series of questions, most of which poked fun at X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds shared the video on his YouTube channel, and you can check it out below.

Deadpool (review) is in theaters now, and Eddie the Eagle (review) hits theaters on February 26th:

Poe Dameron Rescues Admiral Ackbar in First LEGO STAR WARS: THE RESISTANCE RISES Short

The first animated short has been released for LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises. The series of shorts are set before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so they are being made to give us fans some fun background stories involving certain characters.

This first short features Poe Dameron going on a daring rescue mission with C-3PO and BB-8 to save one of the Resistance’s most important leaders, Admiral Ackbar, from Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, and the First Order.

The short is loaded with all the kinds of silly humor that you'd expect from LEGO and I enjoyed it! There's a funny joke in which C-3PO constantly keeps drawing attention to his new red arm. But I've gotta say, I was a little thrown off by Poe's voice because it sounds nothing like Poe!

Ryan Reynolds Eyes Reunion With DEADPOOL Writers For Sci-Fi Thriller LIFE

There have been thousands of words written about whether or not Ryan Reynolds qualifies as a true movie star, and every few years he seems to vacillate between soaring career highs and unwatchable lows. Right now he's flying high with Deadpool, and Deadline reports that as a follow-up movie, he's in talks to reunite with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on a new sci-fi thriller they've written called Life.

Safe House director Daniel Espinosa is directing, and that would be another reunion for Reynolds since he starred in Safe House opposite Denzel Washington. Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation's Rebecca Ferguson is playing the female lead in Life, which is described as "a big-scale film focusing on a Mars mission that finds intelligent alien life." I don't know anything about the movie beyond that, including what kind of characters Ferguson and Reynolds will play, but I like pretty much all of the elements of this movie, so hopefully they come together to create something memorable.

Honest Trailer For THE WALKING DEAD Seasons 4-6

Following up their Honest Trailer for the first three seasons of AMC's The Walking Dead, ScreenJunkies is back with a new video that looks at seasons 4-6. I gave up on this show after the first season because I thought it was too slow, and if this video is right, it certainly sounds like there have been a ton of filler episodes and wasted time in between brutal deaths and solid character moments. The show definitely isn't going anywhere any time soon, so I wouldn't be surprised to see another one of these videos pop up in a couple of years.

Tom Hanks' A HOLOGRAM FOR THE KING Hits The Internet With a New Trailer and Several Images

Despite the fact that A Hologram for the King began filming back in March of 2014, we haven’t really seen or heard much about it since a first-look photo surfaced in May of that year. But now we have some clues and hints at what to expect from the film, thanks to a new German movie trailer and a few images.

A Hologram for the King is directed by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run, Cloud Atlas) and is based on Dave Eggers‘ novel. The main star of the movie is Tom Hanks who is also joined by Sarita Choudhury (Homeland).

The plot circulates around the life of a failed American businessman who “heads to a rising Saudi Arabian city for a last ditch attempt to stave off foreclosure, pay his daughter’s college tuition, and do something memorable." Throughout the story, he will be seen struggling to hold himself together, while trying not to lose the most precious thing to him: his family.

We'll keep you posted when an English trailer and release date emerge, but in the meantime, you can get a sense of the visuals below.

Adam McKay Confirms He'll Return For ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

A few months ago, Marvel Studios announced that an Ant-Man sequel called Ant-Man and the Wasp had been added to its Phase 3 calendar. We know director Peyton Reed is coming back, but it was unclear whether Adam McKay (Anchorman, The Big Short, Step Brothers) would return to co-write the movie like he did the first time around.

A few months ago, McKay said he'd be open to coming back and working on the sequel, but now he's confirmed his plans to make that happen. In an interview with Nerdist, he said:

“We’ve been talking to Marvel actually. We just talked to them the other day, and it looks like I will be involved. I don’t know if it’s gonna be right from page one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved. There you go. There’s a little headline for the fanboys!”

McKay, who's Oscar-nominated for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture at the Oscars for The Big Short, also teased what might be next for him:

“I’m talking with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly about maybe doing an immigration comedy. I’m trying to crack climate change very, very hard. I have an interesting idea, I think. But it’s got to be a movie that plays. It can’t be didactic or pedantic. It’s got to be… I want to keep an audience on the edge of their seats. So I’m trying to figure that out. But I don’t know. After this, we’ll see where we end up.”

TRANSFORMERS 6 Will Be a Cheaper Bumblebee Spinoff

A few days ago, word came out that Paramount had pencilled in release dates for three more Transformers films over the next three years. This shouldn't have surprised anyone, because if you've been paying attention, you know that Batman & Robin writer Akiva Goldsman led a writer's room last year that produced enough ideas to generate more Transformers films for the next ten yearsMichael Bay is returning to direct Transformers 5, which hits theaters on June 23rd, 2017 and sees Mark Wahlberg returning to the role of the inventor/mechanic he played in Age of Extinction, and now we know that at least one franchise character will make it to Transformers 6: the radio-voiced yellow speedster Bumblebee.

As Paramount CEO Brad Grey told THR:

“There are characters in the Transformers universe that can be and should be made into their own movies,” Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey told The Hollywood Reporter. “We will make the first movie with Michael and go right into a Bumblebee movie, which will be at a lower cost.”

Bay claims he won't be coming back for another movie after T5, so it looks like the studio will need to find a different (cheaper) director to tackle this Bumblebee-centric spinoff. Get used to it, because regardless of Bay's involvement, these movies are not going to stop any time soon. Grey continued:

“We’ve brought in a pretty strong writing staff run by Akiva Goldsman, and they have put together eight or nine interesting stories,” said Grey. “So, between that group and Steven Spielberg’s guidance on a story level, these characters are a big business for us to pursue.”

After the utter embarrassment of a movie that was Age of Extinction, I think I'm pretty much done with live-action Transformers movies. Unless they bring in a really interesting filmmaker to tell a story that's wildly different than anything Bay has done, I'll be perfectly content missing out on the rest of the entries in this film franchise. I know 100% that I won't be going to see Transformers 5, but I'll leave the door barely cracked for the possibility that they might be able to lure me in with a tantalizing hire for future movies down the line.

50-year-old Tim Miller just made his feature directorial debut with Deadpool, which has broken all sorts of records and become 20th Century Fox's biggest opening of all time. He's been working in visual effects since 1995, when he co-founded Blur Studio, and it's cool to see him finally get a shot at the big time.

Miller directed this cinematic trailer for DC Universe Online that we actually wrote about back in 2010, but it's resurfacing now in the wake of Deadpool's success and being singled out as a big reason for why Miller was able to secure the directing job on the movie. Apparently the executives at Fox were very impressed with it. Check it out below, either as a refresher of his earlier work or as a first-time glimpse into what he did before directing one of the biggest superhero success stories of all time.

10 Alternate Movie Endings You Might Not Know About

ScreenRant is back with a new video that counts down what they call "10 Amazing Alternate Movie Endings You've Never Seen." That's a bit hyperbolic, especially considering a few of these are almost common knowledge to the geek community at this point. True, no one has ever actually seen a cut of Return of The Jedi in which Han Solo dies, but it's widely known that was the plan, and this video presents it like they're dropping some sort of bombshell information that no one has ever heard before. I don't know...maybe it's just that the host has a really annoying voice.

The creative team behind The Simpsons is doing something they’ve never done below. Homer Simpson will appear live on the show! The animated character will spend three minutes discussing current events and answering fan submitted questions in the May 15 episode.

The segment will air live on both the east coast and west coast broadcasts, and showrunner Al Jean revealed to THR that they will use motion capture technology to pull it off. Along with the voice of Dan Castellaneta because there is no Homer without Dan. Jean said:

"As far as I know, this is the first time that's been done by any animated show.”

He also notes that the live bit works with the theme of the episode, which explores improv comedy, and according to Jean, Dan is “a great improviser."

Fox wants fans to tweet their questions using the hashtag #HomerLive beginning Sunday, May 1st through Wednesday, May 4th. I’m excited to see how this plays out, it should be fun!

Great Concept for a FRIDAY THE 13th Reboot That We’ll Never See

$

I’m a huge horror fan, and I love the Friday the 13th franchise, but I didn’t really care for the Michael Bay-produced reboot. However, its sequel, which was going to be directed by David Bruckner (The Signal) from a script written by Hannibal’s Nick Antosca, sounded like it would have been cool as hell and something fans would have probably embraced. Unfortunately, this concept will never make its way to the big screen.

HitFix recently had the opportunity to interview Bruckner, and it was in this interview that he explained what the reboot would have entailed:

"It was a proper reboot. The final version that we were working on was with a writer Nick Antosca, who writes for 'Hannibal,' or did, rather. It was a proper 'end of the summer' summer camp movie that took place in the late '80s...I like to say that 'Dazed and the Confused'...was a huge inspiration to me in how we approached the character relationships, just because that's a movie that captures a kind of a timeless -- even though it takes place in the '70s -- a very timeless, nostalgic experience. And it's very much -- you chart several characters at once, it's very much an ensemble piece, and you really are able to get at this coming of age vibe. I just wanted to see a movie where you're that invested in everybody and [then] Jason Voorhees [shows up]."

Wait a second… a Friday the 13th film with actual character development, where the audience actually cares about the characters?! What kind of insane slasher horror film would do such a crazy thing?! It's kind of hard to image characters in this world that aren’t just victims being relentlessly slaughtered. I mean, you can have that, but it’s a lot more powerful with real characters.

I think Cabin in the Woods is one of the few slasher films in recent memory that did a great job developing its characters. It’s a bloody shame this movie won’t happen. What do you think about the direction they were going to take the franchise?

Paramount Pictures is currently developing a new version of the film with Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski. We have no idea what that will end up being like, but it will be released in 2017.

Watch Marvel’s CG Animated Spider-Man and Iron Man Short from DEADPOOL Director Tim Miller

Deadpool was director Tim Miller’s first feature film gig, and he sure knocked it out of the park! Before that, Miller was a VFX artist and animator for video games and created the DC Universe Online cinematic trailer, which helped land him the Deadpool directing gig. Turns out Miller also had a hand in helping build the success of Marvel’s Iron Man.

Marvel's Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, took to Tumblr recently to reveal that the director played a role in the development and success of the first installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was hired to create a CG animated short that featured Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Hulk. Iron Man wasn't really a well-known character at the time, and Marvel needed to get kids pumped up for the character because they planned on making the movie.

The short was supposed to do three things:

1. Clearly demonstrate that there was a man inside the armor.

2. Show off his wide range of cool powers.

3. Position him clearly as a hero on the same level as Spidey and Hulk by having those characters show how cool they perceive him to be and valued him as a peer.

Quesada goes on to explain in detail:

“Most people may not know or even remember but close to 10 years ago Tim and I worked on a Marvel project together. As we at Marvel began plans on the first Iron Man movie our focus group research showed that we had some serious awareness issues with the character, especially amongst kids. One of the major takeaways was that kids who had zero knowledge of the character had no interest in him because they thought he was a robot. In early 2007 Marvel assigned a small group of us to create what would eventually be called Iron Man Advertorials: Three animated shorts with a simple clean story that would introduce Iron Man to younger viewers using our two most recognizable characters at the time as bait. Our marching orders were to… Clearly demonstrate that there was a man inside the armor, show off his wide range of cool powers, Position him clearly as a hero on the same level as Spidey and Hulk by having those characters show how cool they perceive him to be and valued him as a peer.
“We also felt that if we really wanted to grab kids attention we needed to go high level CGI and Marvel gave us the budget to do it. This was a huge vote of confidence at that time because things were still tight in those days. That’s where Tim and the incredible team at Blur came in and knocked this assignment out of the park. Working with Tim was a joy (you’d have trouble finding a nicer more creative guy) and immediately his love of all things Marvel and comics was evident. He took the scripts and created beautifully visceral action scenes while never forgetting to keep things lighthearted with the classic Marvel sense of humor running throughout. Attached is episode one, two and three to follow. Considering how long ago these were created and how far computer graphics have come, I think the shorts hold up pretty darn well and what always makes me smile when I watch them are the little bits and pieces that would later come to influence certain moments in our films. See if you can spot them. What’s also fun to see is how even back then Tim’s wonderful and mad cap directorial skill was clearly evident.”

Some of you may have already seen this when it was first released all those years ago, but just in case you didn’t, here you go!

The first promo for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. midseason premiere was released, and I have to admit, it is pretty dynamic and intense. The 30-second preview introduces new inhumans, inhumans again, and, oh wait a minute, even more inhumans. But there is also a lot of kicking, punching, and action just to keep things going the right way.

This footage focuses on one of the main storylines in for season three, the Secret Warriors, and offers a look at Elena Rodriguez, aka Slingshot, played by Natalia Cordova-Buckley.

Here’s an official synopsis for the mid-season promo:

When Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns, Coulson is more determined than ever to get to Gideon Malick and put an end to Hydra once and for all in the aftermath of his trip to Maveth. Meanwhile, Daisy and the team encounter more Inhumans who have powers like they’ve never seen before, but will they be friends or enemies of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

On a side note, do you think Slingshot will join the Secret Warriors or will she choose to follow the Inhumans Joey Gutierrez (Juan Pablo Raba) and Lincoln Campbell (Luke Mitchell)?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season three returns on Tuesday, March 8.
