Dwayne Johnson Will Star in An Action-Comedy For EASY A Director

0
0

I'm a big Dwayne Johnson fan. I think he's one of the most charismatic performers in Hollywood, and even when he's not making movies or TV shows, he keeps his fans entertained with his social media presence. But I have to admit, I'm just a little bit wary of his next project.

Deadline reports that he'll star in an action comedy film for Easy A director Will Gluck that's being described as "a throwback to those mismatched buddy action comedies like Lethal Weapon, Midnight Run and 48 Hours." And because Johnson (aka "Franchise Viagra") is involved, the hope is that this kicks off a new film franchise. Further details are slim, but The Expendables and Zombieland 2 writer David Callaham is writing the screenplay.

That doesn't sound terrible by any means, but Johnson already has a mismatched buddy action comedy in the pipeline with Central Intelligence, which co-stars Kevin Hart. I'm just hoping he continues to expand his career and doesn't start repeating himself too much. (I still hope to see him win an Oscar one day, because I think he has the potential to make a big impact in a dramatic film, but I'm not even sure if that's something Johnson is interested in.) What do you think? Do you want to see him in another buddy action comedy?

Deleted AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Scene Pits Vision Against Thor

0
0

For me, Avengers: Age of Ultron didn't live up to the magic of Joss Whedon's first Avengers movie. Maybe it was because there were too many elements at play, maybe because some of the initial magic had worn off, or maybe it was because I got so much joy out of seeing these heroes work as a team and this film seemed to start sowing the seeds of discontent between the characters we know are going to battle in Civil War.

But the film definitely had some cool aspects to it, and the creation and execution of Vision was certainly one of them. The moment when Paul Bettany picks up Thor's hammer is terrific, and now there's a deleted scene floating around that includes a knock-down fight between Thor and the newly-created Vision. This is part of the brand new MCU Phase Two box set that's available through Amazon (get it here), and I love how the unfinished effects almost give this video a sort of fan-made quality. Downey looks sort of ridiculous with the half-finished Iron Man armor floating around his body, but it's still a cool look at the movie during a part of the process we don't normally have access to. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 Debuts First Footage, Full Trailer Coming Tomorrow

Yes, this is one of those annoying trailers for a trailer, but if you're dying to see some footage from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, today's your lucky day. The Jonathan Liebesman-directed reboot from 2014 wasn't as awful as I was expecting, and I imagine that if I had seen that film at the same age when I first saw the 1990 TMNT movie, I'd have loved it just as much. This one, directed by Dave Green, provides quick glimpses at Bebop, Rocksteady, and Arrow star Stephen Amell as Casey Jones.

While we originally thought the full trailer might premiere with The Force Awakens, we now know that it debuts online tomorrow. Amell shared this first teaser on his Facebook page. Check it out and let us know what you think:

teaser-trailer-and-poster-for-tohos-godzilla-resurgence

While we wait for the Godzilla sequel from Legendary Pictures and director Gareth Edwards to be released in 2018, Japan's TOHO production company made their own Japanese Godzilla film for fans to enjoy called Godzilla: Resurgence. TOHO is where Godzilla was born, and today we have the new film's first poster and teaser trailer for you to watch.

The movie is written by Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and co-directed by Anno and Shinji Higuchi, who is known for his visual effects for the Gamera trilogy, among other film projects.

There are no details on the story yet, and all that the teaser trailer features is the recognizable iconic Godzilla roar and some shots of a crowd of people running in a chaotic terrified manner.

This will be the company's 29th Godzilla movie, and it's set to be released in Japan on July 29th, 2016. It will be the first Godzilla film created by TOHO since 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars

Impressive First Trailer For THE LEGEND OF TARZAN

impressive-first-trailer-for-the-legend-of-tarzan

Earlier today we got our first look at Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan and Margot Robbie as Jane in director David YatesThe Legend of Tarzan. This movie offers us a very different take on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. I’m actually really intrigued by Yates’ take on the story, and it could prove to be a great movie.

Now we have the first teaser trailer and poster for the film to share with you. I was pretty damn impressed with this first trailer. Not only is it full of stunning visuals, but it actually looks like its going to tell a great story. It defintiley got me excited to watch this movie!

The movie has a great supporting cast of actors that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent, and Christoph Waltz. Here's the official synopsis:

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

The movie hits theaters on July 1st, 2016.

Kickass Revealing Chinese Trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS!

China got an incredible new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and holy guacamole! This trailer kicks so much ass! There's a ton of awesome new footage to be seen in it, but I will warn you... it's revealing. There are a couple things in it that some of you might consider spoilers, so I'm throwing out a SPOILER warning! I won't say anything about what's in the trailer, other than it's breathtaking, and if you choose to watch it, it'll probably put a smile on your face.

I've also included a new Disney Channel promo spot for the film called "Destiny," and it centers on the characters in the saga and their destiny. There's also a UK trailer/featurette that focuses on the film production in the UK. It shows off footage from the film, interview, and some behind-the-scenes goodness.

We only have eight more days to go!!! The anticipation is killing me! Thanks to JoBlo for the trailer!

Full Trailer for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 is High Octane Ridiculousness

high-octane-full-trailer-for-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2

It's no secret that I didn't care for the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. This first full trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows really tries hard to win back the fans. They packed everything they possibly could into this thing! It's fast-paced, energetic, action-packed, humorous, over-the-top, and completely ridiculous. The trailer shows Casey Jones in action and it even includes footage of the Ninja Turtles fighting fan favorite villains, Rocksteady and Bebop. The trailer actually manages to be kinda enjoyable because of how it crazy silly it is. I'm not expecting much from this movie. If you enjoyed the first film, then you might actually really enjoy this trailer.

Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, and Noel Fisher will reprise their roles as Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo. Johnny Knoxville is providing the voice of Leonardo again. The movie also sees the return of Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, and William Fichtner as Eric Sacks. Some of the newcomers include Tyler Perry as scientist Baxter Stockman, WWE Star Sheamus as Rocksteady, Gary Anthony Williams as Bebop, Brittany Ishibashi as Karai, Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, and Brian Tee as Shredder.

The movie was directed by Earth to Echo‘s David Green, and it will be released on June 3rd, 2016.

1992’s Crystal Pepsi Is Coming Back!

Pepsi recently announced that their 1992 novelty soda, Crystal Pepsi, is going to return, and this time, it will be caffeinated! I loved Crystal Pepsi and was pretty bummed out when I couldn’t buy it anymore.

Starting today, December 10th, Pepsi will send a free six-pack out to 13,000 lucky winners who downloaded Pepsi's customer rewards app, which is called Pepsi Pass. After that, Crystal Pepsi will allegedly be released in stores nationwide next July.

Crystal Pepsi superfan Kevin Stralhe, better known as the L.A. Beast, has been trying to get Pepsi Co. to revive the classic soda for years. The company hand delivered the very first six-pack to him in appreciation of his commitment to the beverage.

Below you’ll find the announcement video promoting its return along with a video from L.A. Beast showing off his clear six-pack. I love that next summer I’ll be drinking Crystal Pepsi again! I’ll be keeping the fridge stocked!

Idris Elba Could Play Roland Deschain in THE DARK TOWER

0
0

It looks like Sony Pictures may have found their man to take on the role of the gunslinger, Roland Deschain, in the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. There's no official deal in place yet, but Elba is the front-runner for the role. I hope he gets it! There's no doubt that he would be awesome in the film! I'd love to see his take on the character. If cast, he could join Matthew McConaughey, who’s in talks to play the villainous Man in Black.

The other actor that Elba is up against for the role is Javier Bardem, so if for some reason things don't work out for Elba, then Bardem is the man who could be taking on the gunslinger. This will be a huge undertaking for any actor.

There are eight novels in The Dark Tower that follow the character Deschain and his journey across a ruinous world to reach the titular tower. The plan is still in place for this to be the first of possibly three films, and there's a tie-in TV series that is also being developed as a complimentary piece to those films.

Nikolaj Arcel is directing the film from a script most recently written by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. The film will be based on The Gunslinger book in the horror/fantasy series. In that story, Roland is in pursuit of a shady villain called the Man In Black who also goes by several different names including Randall Flagg, Walter Padick, and Richard Fannin, to name a few. It will also establish Roland's relationship with his young protege, Jake Chambers.

The Dark Tower opens in theaters on January 13th, 2017. What do you think about Elba possibly taking on the lead role in the film?

x-men-apocalypse-motion-poster-trailer-coming-tomorrow

For those of you who have been waiting to see a trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, you won't have to wait much longer! 20th Century Fox will release the first trailer for the film tomorrow. The announcement came with a motion poster that you can check out below.

Last week a description of the trailer popped up online that you can read here in case you missed it. It was very much in line with the footage that was screened at Comic-Con this past summer, but I imagine there will be some new cool footage added to this upcoming trailer.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

X-Men: Apocalypse was directed by Bryan Singer, and it opens in theaters on May 27th, 2016.

Nikola Tesla Is Finally Getting a Biopic

One of my favorite historical figures is legendary inventor Nikola Tesla, who was royally screwed over by Thomas Edison. His life work, ideas, and inventions inspired future scientists and storytellers over the years.

The film will be called Tesla, and it’s set to be directed by Michael Almereyda who teamed up with producer Uri Singer to bring this great man’s story to the big screen. These two talents have worked together on a few films already, including Experimenter with Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder and the upcoming Marjorie Prime with Geena Davis, Tim Robbins and Jon Hamm.

According to Deadline, the film will “focus on the inventor’s life in America, telling of his struggles working for Edison as well as his encounters with other historical giants of the era such as George Westinghouse and J.P. Morgan. Following his often strange ideas and uncompromising vision — often to the point of severe financial setbacks — the story will attempt an authentic and honest look into Tesla’s life as an outsider and the legacy he left behind.”

Tesla led one of the most fascinating lives, and it’s a tragic story. Unfortunately, he was the subject of several smear campaigns led by Edison. Time and time again Tesla proved he was the better man and inventor, but in the end, things didn’t turn out well for him.

Born in Serbia in 1856, Tesla immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1880s and began working for Thomas Edison. What began as a warm professional relationship would turn into a fierce, hostile rivalry when Tesla quit Edison after feeling he had been unfairly compensated for designing improvements to the company’s inefficient motor and generators designs. Their rivalry would form the basis for the so-called “War of Currents” of the 1880s and ’90s, as Edison was a proponent of direct current, while Tesla advocated for alternating current transmission of electricity.
Tesla conceived of numerous innovations that eventually would be realized by other inventors including wireless communications, remote-control devices and even X-ray imaging. He also famously attempted to build what he called a “directed energy weapon,” popularly referred to as a death ray, though he was never able to make such a device work. He died poor and in relative obscurity in 1944 and since has become a huge influence on subsequent scientists as well as the popular culture embodiment of the “mad scientist” archetype.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how this movie turns out. I’ve been waiting for good a biopic to be made about Tesla for years, and I hope the filmmakers bring together a great cast and give us a film worthy of Tesla’s awesomeness.

Captain America and Iron Man Fight in New Promo Art for CIVIL WAR

A few cool pieces of promo art have surfaced for Captain America: Civil War, and they focus on the intense rivalry between Captain America and Iron Man. We got a little taste of these two heroes fighting each other in the trailer, but I think that's just the tip of the iceberg of the hardcore awesomeness that these fights will entail.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War opens in U.S. theaters on May.

The movie hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.

Watch Michael B Jordan Get Knocked Out For Real During CREED

Sylvester Stallone has revealed that there's a secret initiation to the Rocky franchise. To be fully accepted into the film, you have to film a slow motion punch to the face. Michael B. Jordan, against his better judgement, decided he wanted to truly be the son of Apollo Creed and took a full, unrestricted punch for the Creed. The result? As Chris Tucker would say... He got knocked the f*** out. Check out the insane footage and reactions from Epix.

It's HARLEY QUINN VS. ZOMBIES in Fun Fan-Made Short Film

harley-quinn-vs-zombies-in-fun-fan-made-short-film

Harley Quinn takes on a horde of zombies in this short film called "Harley Quinn Vs. Zombies." The short was directed by Matthew Talamantes, and I think it turned out to be pretty fun for a low-budget fan film. I think actress Aly Fritz gave a solid performance as the classic villain, and the red accents added to the character in the black and white zombie world was a nice touch.

Harley Quinn vs. Zombies is a fan film in which Harley ventures on her own to a recent zombie outbreak for what she considers to be a dream vacation. In the midst of her zombie slaying adventure she comes across a group of civilians who are desperate for a hero, but instead get Miss Harleen Quinzel.

Thanks to the director for sending this over to us. Leave some feedback in the comment section below and you check it out!

Kate Mulgrew Says She Enjoys Being The Only Female STAR TREK Captain

0
0

Kate Mulgrew recently sat down with Huffington Post and had many things to say about her time in the Star Trek series and where it's headed moving forward. When asked her opinion about whether she agreed with fans who said the next logical step was to have a LGBT captain of the Enterprise for the upcoming series, the Voyager veteran said,

“There has not been an LGBT Captain. There are an infinity of things they haven’t had...But I’ll be curious to see if they choose a man or a woman. I think I wouldn’t mind a bit if I -- well, I’m not even going to tell you that, that’s selfish. I’m eating my words, eating them! It’s just kind of nice being the only female Captain to date.”

Hey, I can't blame her for that. It sets her apart, and honestly is a big part of the success she has had in acting! Let's also point out she didn't necessarily say she didn't want a female captain...just that she likes being the only one. She also went on to praise Gene Roddenberry and his forward thinking...

“The beauty of Star Trek is that Roddenberry was very far-seeing...Gender regarding the Captain’s seat was a unilateral thing. It transcended all of those classifications. I think that I played Janeway as I would play her today.”

Well now I'm imaging Red from Orange Is The New Black commanding a crew...which she kind of does! What did you think of Mulgrew as captain in her heyday? Where does she fall in the hierarchy of best captains in your mind?

Deadshot Rumored to Appear in Ben Affleck's Solo BATMAN Film

0
0

Warner Bros. is trying hard to get their DC Extended Universe off the ground and catch up with what Marvel is doing. The first film on the road to making this happen is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and that will be followed by Suicide Squad. Many of the actors that appear in these films signed on to appear in more than one of these DCEU movies. Will Smith is one of those actors, and according to Latino Review, Smith's Deadshot character might actually Join Ben Affleck in the Batman solo film that he is currently developing. The site explains:

If Deadshot joins the Bat in the movie, it will be for a "major role" for a "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" scenario. Nothing's locked down completely, but most of the involved parties seem enthusiastic.

That's really interesting to hear, so if this rumor turns out to be true, maybe the solo Batman film won't be very solo after all. It could be fun to see Deadshot and Batman team up for a movie adventure. Batman and Deadshot have teamed up in the comics, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I imagine that if Deadshot shows up we'll also see a few other characters from the DCEU show up in some capacity. Maybe all of WB's DCEU films will be like their upcoming Batman v Superman, in which they will always include other characters that they've established in their cinematic universe. That's exactly what Marvel has been doing. Look at all the Marvel characters that were packed into Captain America: Civil War

Would you like to Batman and Deadshot team up in a movie? Or were you hoping for a real solo Batman movie?

AMC is Developing Joe Hill’s NOS4A2 Supernatural Horror Novel as a TV Series

0
0

AMC has picked up the rights to Joe Hill’s supernatural horror novel NOS4A2 and they are developing it as a TV series. I haven’t read the book, but it sounds like it will make one hell of an awesome series! If you’re not familiar with the story, here’s a description:

NOS4A2 centers on Victoria “Vic” McQueen, a young woman with an uncanny talent for finding lost things… a gift that is gradually destroying her mind. Her search for help leads her to someone with powers not unlike her own: the psychopath Charlie Manx, who has survived for a century by abducting children in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith (license plate: NOS4A2), and draining his passengers of their souls to keep himself forever young. When Manx kidnaps Vic’s own son, she’ll plunge into the impossible, nightmare world that lies just beneath the surface of everyday America in a desperate attempt to get him back.

Hill is the son of Stephen King and has also written Horns, which was adapted into a film by Alexandra Aja. He also wrote the Locke & Key graphic novel series, which has seen attempted adaptations as both a TV series and a trilogy of films.

Hill most recently wrote and executive produced a remake of the 1980s horror/fantasy anthology series Tales From The Darkside for The CW, but it doesn’t look like the pilot episode stuck the landing. With AMC behind NOS4A2’s development, you know we’re going to get a quality series. I love the concept of the story, and I’ll be looking forward to seeing how it plays out as a show.

Adam McKay's Films, Ranked

0
0

Eleven and a half years ago, writer/director Adam McKay moved from Saturday Night Live into the arena of major Hollywood comedies with his debut feature film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. His creative partnership with Will Ferrell has resulted in four other movies and the rise of Funny Or Die, but tomorrow marks the release of McKay’s most serious movie to date: The Big Short. Ferrell’s amusing buffoonery is nowhere to be found, traded here for backroom dealings of slick hedge fund managers as McKay examines the 2008 collapse of the American economy with righteous indignation. It’s not without humor, but it’s definitely not a traditional “Adam McKay movie” — this is the filmmaker on a mission, and you can sense a passion and fire in the storytelling that’s never burned quite this hot before.

In honor of the release of The Big Short (read my full review here), I thought it’d be fun to rank McKay’s directorial efforts so far and see how your interpretations stack up. Be sure to let me know what you th— wait, I don’t have to tell you what to do. This is a list on the internet. You’re probably commenting already. Let’s get started.

6. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Despite growing up in the South, I’ve never understood the appeal of NASCAR and the culture that surrounds it, so an entire movie centered on the concept never sounded like a great idea to me. There are some decent jokes here (the amusingly foul-mouthed sons come to mind), but Talladega Nights leans so heavily on a sport I simply don’t like, and I was never really able to get past that and appreciate it as its own movie. I suspect I’ll get some heat for including it so low on the list, but what can I say? I just didn’t find it that funny.

5. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

This bonkers follow-up to the 2004 original came out almost ten years later and is a much weirder film than the first. After the first viewing slightly disappointed me, I returned to it on home video and gave it another shot, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it plays much better on second viewing. Without the loaded expectations that it may surpass the original, its weirdness is a bit easier to swallow, and McKay’s treatment of the story — about the rise of awful 24-hour news coverage and the slippery slope that led to the current state of the journalism industry — allowed him to get a bit more pointed than in some of his other films. Buried among scenes of Ron Burgundy singing to a shark and a ludicrous climactic fight sequence that feels more than a little forced, McKay slips a legitimate message about the state of the news in our country right now.

4. The Other Guys

Though its back half admittedly loses a lot of steam, I find the first half of The Other Guys to be absolutely hilarious. Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s chemistry is spot-on, and I still crack up remembering the scene in which Ferrell explains how if he were a tuna, he’d be able to take down Wahlberg as a lion. It’s a great parody of buddy cop movies and a fun look at the B-team that stays behind and fills out all of the paperwork, and the film’s credits sequence plays like an infographic dress rehearsal for The Big Short, explaining how Ponzi schemes work and taking banks and government bailouts to task.

3. Step Brothers

Here’s a film that would certainly take the top spot on a lot of other people’s lists. Some view movie this as a legitimate comedic masterpiece, and while I wouldn’t exactly go that far, it’s impossible for me to deny its appeal. The pairing of Ferrell and John C. Reilly that didn’t work for me in Talladega Nights fits together effortlessly here, and this seems like a film these guys were all destined to make. In some ways it’s the ultimate man-child movie, and the combination of innocence and petulance in the lead actors couldn’t be better. Memorable moments abound, and it feels like the whole film is powered by a sense of giddy, childish glee.

2. The Big Short

For a film intent on explaining heady concepts like collateralized debt obligations, The Big Short does so in extremely entertaining fashion. McKay knows that most people don’t understand exactly how the financial collapse occurred, but he breaks it down in ways the audience can understand and adds compelling characters and a slick style to make it feel like much more than just an economics lecture. Read my review to get the full story, but this is absolutely one of his best films.

1. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

In the summer of 2004, I was one of those people who preferred Dodgeball to Anchorman. I just didn’t get Anchorman on first viewing, but in the years since, McKay’s debut film has had a huge impact on me. I now know most of the lines by heart, and Ron Burgundy has become one of my favorite comedic cinematic characters. It’s a film that improves on repeat viewings, and while, again, the last act has some trouble (which seems to be a recurring issue in McKay’s work), the first two thirds are so strong, the characters are so well-drawn, and the comedy is so heightened that it totally makes up for any of its weaker aspects.
