CAPTAIN MARVEL Co-Writer Discusses Taking on The Powerful Superhero

$

Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel is being co-written by screenwriter Meg LeFauve, who also wrote Pixar’s upcoming film The Good Dinosaur. She is writing the script with Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman, and in a recent interview with Collider, LeFauve offered an update on where they are at in the process and how they will approach the powerful superhero.

"Yeah, we haven’t started yet! We have not started yet. We just got the phone call to come over to Marvel. But for me personally, the wonderful thing about her and the challenge of her is going to be that she’s a female superhero. And that is awesome because she’s so powerful, and how hard is that going to be because she’s so powerful? We don’t want the Superman curse. “What’s her vulnerability?” is what we have to figure out."

For those of you not familiar with Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel, she is a lot like Superman as she has superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and durability. She can also has the power of flight, can absorb energy, has Photonic blasts, and even has a precognitive “sixth sense."

I’m really curious to see how this character will actually be handled in the cinematic universe. There’s so much potential, and I’m sure that they’ll find the heart and soul of her story. Ronda Rousey wants the lead role in the movie, and she wants to prove to Marvel that she's got what it takes.

The Weirdest STAR WARS Disney Princess Crossover Art Ever

We’ve seen a lot of Disney and Star Wars crossover art since Disney bought Lucasfilm, but this art created by BuzzFeed contributor Bill Varner is the strangest I’ve seen so far. These are definitely some interesting and wild character mashups. Some of them might be considered pretty damn disturbing. Especially Jar Jar Binks as The Little Mermaid, Jabba the Hutt as Sleeping Beauty, and Chewbacca as Belle.

SPIDER-MAN Director Jon Watts Reveals His Comic Book Influences

Cop Car director Jon Watts is in the process of preparing a standalone Spider-Man film for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. During an interview with Den of Geek, Watts talks about the comic books he’s reading that are influencing him in how he’s developing his film. He says:

“Ultimate is great. I love Ultimate. We have the freedom to pull from anything, but I really like what [Brian Michael] Bendis did. A lot. That felt like… that was Peter Parker back in high school. And, spending as much time with his high school problems as it did with his superhero problems, which I think is really a lot of fun.
“There’s also some really funny comics stuff, like, the Archies. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the Spider-Man Loves Mary-Jane series, but they have this really great anime-style illustration, and it’s all just about Peter Parker’s relationships. It’s like the soap opera of Peter Parker in high school. Those are really funny, too.
“I’m just sitting around reading comic books all day — it’s a pretty great job.”

This just gives us an idea of what we might expect to see from this film. It also seems to fit in line with all that coming-of-age John Hughes vibe talk that has been discussed on several occasions in the past.

The movie will star Tom Holland in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Watts' Spider-Man film is set to be released on July 28th, 2017. Holland will make his first appearance as the web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War, which is due on May 6th, 2016.

10 Best Sound Effects From The STAR WARS Saga

StarWars.com has released a new Top 10 video list for you to watch. This list highlights the ten best sound effects that have been used in the films. The sound effects used in these movies are some of the coolest that have ever been created; they are iconic and very recognizable to anyone that has seen the Star Wars saga. There's a lot of work that went into developing them. The video points our how some of these sound effects were made.

In this installment, we’re picking the galaxy’s greatest sound effects, from the destructive to the delightful. For this list, we're focusing on the best audible inventions from the Star Wars films only, ranking them on memorability, originality, and impact.

To watch the previously released Top 10 list from StarWars.com, click here.

Just in case you can't watch the video, here's a written breakdown that the site offers:

10. Tauntaun
Weird. Friendly. Funny. The tauntaun’s gentle grunts come from an Asian sea otter, which was pitched down just a little to make it sound familiar yet strange. Plus, it’s really, really fun to impersonate.

9. Probe Droid
The Imperial probe droid is the sound of the Empire watching you, and it’s totally unnerving. Mixing a steady, ominous hum with distorted robotic chatter, the end result is a sound effect that’ll both scare you and let you know it’s time to pack up and leave.

8. Seismic Charge
First, there’s nothing. Then, a very, VERY big boom. Sound designer Ben Burtt developed an “audio black hole” for Jango Fett’s seismic charges, where the sound of the explosion is slightly delayed after ignition. The result is powerful — both visually and audibly.

7. Podracer
When you think of speed, power, and personality, odds are you don’t think about an electric tooth brush. But when you mix it with recordings of cars and boats, tweak the tones a bit you get the bombad sounds of a podracer. An effect so cool, even the crashes sound awesome! Music to our ears.

6. Chewbacca
When a voice inspires this many impressions, you know it’s a classic. Here’s how Chewbacca’s memorable growls and grunts came to be. You said it, Chewie.

5. Blaster
How do you create a futuristic, fun, and dangerous sounding gunshot from a galaxy far, far away? Take one hammer. Slam it against radio tower cables, add a touch of bazooka, And voila — you have yourself a blaster! A sound so nice, these guys used it twice.

4. R2-D2
R2-D2 expresses joy, sorrow, and every other human emotion. And he makes us feel them, too. The lovable astromech's voice is magical — a brilliant combination of organic and electronic sounds — and it’s a big reason we love this overweight glob of grease.

3. TIE fighter
Harsh, icy, and menacing. The TIE fighter scream was another result of Ben Burtt’s studio wizardry. Using an electronically stretched out elephant howl the TIE fighter scream remains synonymous with the tyranny of the Empire.

2. Darth Vader breathing
An inhale. An exhale. A defining characteristic for the saga’s central figure. Darth Vader’s mechanical breathing illustrates darkness, tragedy, and mystery. It’s the most haunting sound in Star Wars, and one that has become iconic.

1. Lightsaber
It sounds elegant, it sounds majestic, and it sounds like nothing else. The Jedi weapon was the first sound created by Ben Burtt for the original Star Wars, mixing the motors of an old projector with feedback from a TV tube. In the end, a galaxy far, far away just wouldn't be the same without the lightsaber’s powerful ignition hiss and graceful hum. That’s why we rank it #1.

RABBIDS Movie To Be Written By ROBOT CHICKEN Writers

A couple of years, ago Ubisoft announced that they would be developing a feature film of their video game property Rabbids. I’ve never played this game, but it centers on a group of big and insanely hyper rabbits who like to cause havoc and yell “Bwaaah!”

The film is being developed at Sony Pictures and they’ve hired Robot Chicken scribes Matthew Senreich, Tom Sheppard, and Zeb Wells to write the screenplay for the film. According to Variety, it will be a hybrid live-action/stop-motion animated movie.

The film is based on the wacky characters from the popular 'Rabbids' TV series and Ubisoft video games. Similar to the Minions in the 'Despicable Me' franchise, the “raving rabbids” first appeared in the 'Rayman' series and became so popular, they were spun off into their own franchise.

This sounds like the perfect film for these Robot Chicken guys to take on, and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios will also be a producing partner. This seems like the kind of film that kids will love.

I’ve included a trailer for Rayman Raving Rabbids so you can see how ridiculous this movie has the potential to be.

Samurai Frog Warrior Art - The Lilypad Seven

Artist Conor Nolan has created a sensational series of amusing character art that he calls The Lilypad Seven. It features a group of samurai frog warriors who protect feudal Japan. When talking to io9, the artist explained his inspiration behind the art:

“It’s difficult to know where some ideas come from but if I had to guess for the seven it would be both my fondness of Studio Ghibli/ Hayao Miyazaki, and the movie ‘Seven Samurai’ by Akira Kurosawa. I also just really like frogs and thought putting them into armor, robes, and acorn hats would be a fun thing to draw.”

Apparently Nolan is also writing a comic book series based on these designs that he came up with. I don’t know about you, but I’d read it! If you want to purchase any of these as prints, click here.

Matthew Vaughn Looking to Direct Sci-Fi Action Film ASCENSION

20th Century Fox has acquired a spec script for a big sci-fi film project called Ascension. The studio is looking to bring Kingsman: The Secret Service and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn in to helm it.

The movie is described as a disaster film that follows “a scientist who must save the world after gravity is erased from the Earth’s atmosphere.” It definitely sounds like the kind of project that Vaughn would have fun with.

I wish I knew more about it, but that’s all the info we have at the moment. As you know, Vaughn is a talented director that has a knack for directing badass action films, and I’d be very interested to see what he would do with a sci-fi project like this.

Entertainment Earth is exclusively selling the best Vinyl Pop! figure that has ever been made! This is the "Flesh Wound" Black Knight from the classic comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Black Knight scene in this movie is one of my favorite scenes ever. When I was in Junior High, my friends and I actually did a performance at a talent show where we acted out this scene. It ended up being ridiculously funny. I wish I had that on video. Anyway, here is the description that came along with the figure.

Like King Arthur, you might think he has no arms left… but "it's just a flesh wound." This terrific Monty Python and the Holy Grail Flesh Wound Black Knight Pop! Vinyl Figure - Entertainment Earth Exclusive revisits one of the most hilarious moments in the classic comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Black Knight - complete with bloody stumps - stands about 3 3/4-inches tall and comes in a window display box. "Now stand aside, worthy adversary," and take him home for a little rest and recuperation!

If you want, you all can pre-order it here. It'll cost ya $12.99. Better hurry, because this is sure to sell out fast.

A Sequel to the Horror Doll Thriller ANNABELLE Is in Development

$

New Line Cinema is moving forward with a sequel to the horror film Annabelle, which was a spin-off film of James Wan’s The Conjuring. The first movie was set in 1969 and based on a possessed doll named Annabelle, which comes from one of the supernatural cases from paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

The first Annabelle movie was ok, but it wasn’t nearly as good or scary as The Conjuring. I thought the first movie should have been a lot better. There’s no information one what the story of the sequel will entail or who will star in it, but Annabelle will be there to make life a living hell for some unexpecting victims.

The studio has hired Gary Doberman to write the script. This is the same guy who wrote the first movie. It’s hard to imagine that it will be any better than the first movie, especially since they brought in the original screenwriter, but we’ll see how it turns out!

The best eight minutes of you’ll spend today will be listening to Christopher Walken read Edgar Allen Poe’s classic 1845 horror poem, The Raven. Walken breathes new life into the famous poem that we’ve heard and read several times before. My favorite rendition of the poem, though, still comes from Homer Simpson in The Simpsons "Treehouse of Terror" Halloween Special. Walken's version comes in a close second. If you're a fan of Walken, then there's no doubt that you're gonna love this.

Rachel McAdams’ DOCTOR STRANGE Role Reportedly Revealed

$

Last month we learned that Rachel McAdams had been cast in Doctor Strange as Benedict Cumberbatch’s female co-star. We know Cumberbatch is playing Strange, Tilda Swinton is taking on the role of the Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor will be Baron Mordo. What hasn’t been revealed yet is who exactly McAdams is playing.

There was a lot of fan speculation that McAdams could be playing Clea, who is one of Stephen Strange’s love interests, but according to Latino-Review, that isn’t the case at all. Their sources tell them that the actress will be taking on the role of Christine Palmer, who is one of the night shift nurses from Marvel's Night Nurse.

I speculated a couple of months ago that McAdams would be playing the Night Nurse after Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight said they couldn’t use Night Nurse in the Netflix series because Marvel was saving her for a film. I assumed that film would be Doctor Strange because of her close ties to the character.

The only difference here is they are not using Linda Carter who is the most recognizable Night Nurse in the comics, because she is the first Night Nurse who was introduced. Since this is just a rumor at the moment, there still a chance that McAdams could be playing either one of them.

The site goes on to say, “Palmer is the primary protagonist of Night Nurse #4 from 1973, and Carter is barely in it. It might be because Palmer's background involved being a surgical assistant, which would make a good counter-point to Dr. Stephen Strange's surgeon.”

They make a very good point there. It really does make sense to see McAdams take on a Night Nurse role. Kevin Feige previously talked about McAdams' role in the film:

"She plays a very, very big part in the movie and represents a certain point of view of the worlds that we experience in that movie, but Doctor Strange, without a doubt, is the character we follow through the movie."

What do you think about about McAdams possibly playing one of the Night Nurses in Doctor Strange?

I saw a video reel featuring some concept art that was created for the film at Disney's D23 Expo, and here's what I wrote about it:

"Strange has been monitored by S.H.I.E.L.D., and we see him go through several different costume looks. Those include his traditional outfit, complete with his cape, and he even sports the gray hair at his temples.
"We got so see visuals of the car crash and his journey as he searches for the Ancient One. There was a lot of crazy cool astral plane art with a very magical and cosmic vibe. The collection of art was packed with planets and colorful lights. We see a city in which cars are suspended in air. Some of the art shows the city looking twisted and distorted, and it seems to turn in on itself. The last shot of the test footage was actually a piece of CG animated footage of Strange delivering a badass blast of light."

Doctor Strange is scheduled to hit theaters on November 4th, 2016. It's being directed by Scott Derrickson from a script written by Jon Spaihts.

Classic Disney Animal Characters Reimagined as Humans

A student artist named Alaina Bastian has created a series of illustrations that shows us what some classic Disney animated animal characters might look like if they were actually humans. Some of the characters represented here come from films such as The Lion King, The Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, The Jungle Book, Tarzan, Bolt, and Oliver and Company

She posted the art on Board Panda with the following note:

"These are my interpretations of some Disney animals if they were human. I’ve often wondered what these animals would look like if they were human and I have enjoyed others’ illustrations of this concept. But I noticed that most of these versions lacked character consistency thus making them not quite as believable and lovable.
"I decided to draw them in the styles of their movies, and keep consistent shape language and features to interpret the character in a more thorough and believable way. I’ve enjoyed drawing these beloved characters and hope you like them!"

I think these human interpretations of these characters are pretty fun. You can check them all out below, and click here to read her commentary on some of her character designs.

There’s a New CG Animated RESIDENT EVIL Movie in Development

theres-a-new-cg-animated-resident-evil-movie-in-development-social.jpg

It looks like Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter won’t be the only Resident Evil movie coming out in 2017. The CG animation production company Maria Animation Planet Inc. has announced that they are producing a feature-length CG animation movie that is being developed under the working title Resident Evil CG 3.

CG animated movies aren’t new for the Resident Evil franchise. In 2008 there was the movie Resident Evil: Degeneration, and in 2012 there was Resident Evil: Damnation. Both of them were actually decent films. This next film will apparently reboot the series, and there are some familiar characters who are rumored to be a part of the story.

Takashi Shimizu, the creator of the Japanese horror franchise Ju-on/The Grudge, is an executive producer on the film. Takanori Tsujimoto (Hard Revenge Milly) will be directing the film from a script written by Psycho-Pass scribe, Makoto Fukami. Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who also produced all of the live-action films, was also brought on as an executive supervisor.

I’m actually looking forward to Resident Evil CG 3 more than I am Anderson’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Awesomely Nostalgic STAR WARS Commercial for STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT

$

Like many of you, I grew up on Star Wars. The first one that I saw on the big screen was Return of the Jedi. I was five years old, and my parents took me to the drive-in movies to see it. From that moment on, I was hooked. The moview were amazing, but one of the things I liked to do most was play with the Star Wars action figures and imagine my own adventures. This commercial for Star Wars Battlefront plays on that idea, and its target market is all of those people who grew up with these films and toys in their lives. It hardly even touches on the video game aspect of Star Wars. The commercial is basically a short film that explodes with Star Wars nostalgia. It's a beautifully made ad that brought back all those wonderful Star Wars memories of when I was a kid.
