The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara is officially attached to star in Steven Soderbergh's new thriller Side Effects. Mara is replacing the previously-cast Blake Lively in the role, which in my opinion is a major step up in talent.
According to Deadline, Mara will play a character named Emily Hawkins, described as "a sexy but unsettled young woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs to deal with anxiety and depression surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison." The films cast also includes Jude Law, Channing Tatum, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The film was written by Scott Z. Burns (The Informant, Contagion), and it's scheduled to start shooting in April. As a big fan of Soderbergh's films, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of story he's going to give us with this movie. What are your thoughts on Mara being cast in the lead role?
