The Office may not have been picked up for a ninth season (as of yet), but it looks like there will be a spin-off thanks to NBC. THR reports that the network is moving forward with a family comedy spin-off centered around Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson). The show will reportedly focus on the infamous Schrute farm, and may get a test run during an episode of The Office this season. Wilson, actor/showrunner Paul Lieberstein (Toby) and Ben Silverman are involved.
I am hopeful that the show does better than the Friends spin-off Joey did. Schrute has become a pop culture icon, and I think he will be perfect to lead a show. The Office may not be as popular of a show as it was when Steve Carrell was the lead, but it still my favorite comedy on TV. Ed Helms, James Spader and the rest of the cast definitely worth checking out every week.
