According to producer Jon Landau, James Cameron still plans on making his long awaited sci-fi film Battle Angel. When Cameron said that all he was going to be working on from now on was Avatar movies, we were left wondering if that meant he'd never get to Battle Angel. It's not going to happen anytime soon though, Cameron won't get around to making it until after he's done making his Avatar sequels. This is something the director said in a previous interview. But, Landau gave a brief update saying,

I am confident you will see it. It's one of my favorite stories, I think it is an incredible story, a journey of self-discovery of a young woman. It is a movie that begs the question: "What does it mean to be human? Are you human if you have a heart, are you human if you have a mind, are you human if you have a soul?" And I look forward to bringing that film to audiences.

When asked about casting he wouldn't really speculate, all he said was...

Who we would want to cast today, and who we would want to cast when we get down to making the film, might be two totally different people who would be right for the role.

He then goes on to talk about when Cameron plans of making the movie,

We'll focus on Avatar for the next four or five years, hopefully right after that.

That puts production on the film starting around 2017. The story is set in the 26th century, 300 years after society fell to a catastrophic war, and it follows an amnesiac cyborg named Alita who ends up becoming a bounty hunter. It's based on a nine-volume-long series that tells the stories of the character's attempts to rediscover her past, and the people she meets along the way. You can read much more about Cameron's plans for the film here. One of the most interesting aspects that comes out of Alita's early life is the sport of Motorball. This is one of their favorite elements of the story, and it's something that they're really excited about bringing to the big screen.

Personally, I would much rather have seen Battle Angel get made than another Avatar film. What do you think?
