The developers of Aliens:Colonial Marines announced they were not going to offer a female character in the multiplexer version of the game. As you can imagine, there were well deserved outcry. The odd thing is that players could choose a female character in single player campaign.
Gamer and Alien fan Melissa K (aka MOOSH89) started a petition to have females to be included in multiplayer. Her original goal of 1,000 has been surpassed by nearly double, coming in at around 1,873. She insists that she is not "outraged," but believes that "The Aliens franchise is dominated by strong females such as Ripley, Vasquez, Ferro, Dietrich, and most importantly, The Queen." Neither Gearbox or Sega have responded to the petition at this time.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is slated to arrive in stores on February 12, 2013. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
It makes no sense to me why players can choose a female character for the single player mode, but not multiplayer. Gearbox should respond soon to avoid any more bad press. Would you like to play using a female characer in multiplayer?
