doom-makes-its-triumphant-return-in-brief-video-game-teaser-trailer

This teaser trailer for Doom may only be 11-seconds long, but it was enough to light the flame of excitement. Doom has always been a fun game to play, but for me, none of the sequels over the years have been as awesome as the first two games that were released in the early '90s. I'm still excited to see how this newest game in the franchise turns out, though!

The teaser basically offers us our first look at some in-game footage of the newly designed Revenant, and it looks awesomely terrifying. The Revenant was first introduced in the franchise in Doom II. The games developer, Bethesda, has also confirmed that a full reveal is coming at the Bethesda showcase on June 14th at 7pm PST.

Artist Marcelo Braga created this great piece of Star Wars art called "The Endor Symphony Orchestra." As you can see, it features several of our favorite Star Wars characters mixed in with several of the other side characters in the film making up an entire orchestra. We know what music they’ll be playing!

Real Life Video Games Attack in New PIXELS Trailer

real-life-video-games-attack-in-new-pixels-trailer

Another fun trailer has been released for the upcoming video game adventure film Pixels. It tells the story of classic video game characters hellbent on invading earth and destroying it. Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, and Josh Gad star in the movie as a group of gamers who are tasked with saving the world from these villains.

The new trailer not only offers some more footage from the film, including a clip of James' character killing a Smurf, but it also sheds some more light on the story and where it will take our heroes. The movie looks ridiculously silly, but it knows what it is, and it looks like it will provide some good entertainment.

As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Sandler), Will Cooper (James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times – at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults -- and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.

Pixels will invade theaters on July 24th.

Eerie Horror Short That Revolves Around Sound - 20 Hz

"20 Hz" is a fantastically creepy short horror film that focuses on the sounds around us that we can't hear. The story follows a woman who is working on a song, and while she is deep in this creative, she begins to hear a strange eerie sound on her headphones. So what does she do? Investigates the situation, of course. Here's a brief description:

"Human hearing is capable of detecting sound waves between 20 and 20.000 Hz. … merely a small fraction of the frequency spectrum. Most sounds around us go unnoticed."

I really liked the building of the tension throughout the story. That's one of my favorite aspects of horror film, because you never know what that tension is going to lead to. The film was directed by Chris Keller, and it stars Alix Wilton Regan (Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age : Inquisition). After you watch it, let us know what you think.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Featurette Focuses on the Awesome Opening Sequence

Avengers: Age of Ultron is kicking ass at the box office and has joined the billion dollar box office club. One of the coolest scenes from the film was its opening tracking action shot with the Avengers raiding a Hydra facility where Baron Von Strucker was testing his human subjects, and where Hydra was keeping Loki’s scepter. Marvel has released a featurette that you have to watch that focuses on that opening shot. It includes interviews with Joss Whedon, Kevin Feige, Chris Evans, and more as they discuss what makes that opening shot so glorious, and why they did it the way they did.

Captain America and Falcon Fight Crossbones in New CIVIL WAR Set Photos

Another collection of photos from the set of Captain America: Civil War has popped up online. In this series, we get to see a little bit of Captain America (Chris Evans) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) fighting Crossbones (Frank Grillo). There's also a shot in there of Grillo without the Crossbones mask, so you get a good look at what his scarred face looks like. If you don't want any of this spoiled for you, then I suggest you don't look through the photos.

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

You can see some of the previous set photo here and a video of Falcon flying here. The movie opens on May 6th, 2016.

Review: Nexus Ops, A Close Quarters Combat Game With Replay To Spare

$
0

Nexus Ops was pitched to me as the game Risk should have been.

Now, that’s a lofty bar to set, as personally I find Risk a rollicking good time. Nevertheless, I took the challenge and experienced the game for myself. Sadly this time around there would be no Japan where I could stockpile my armies until the other players' patience was exhausted, causing them to come after me, fail, and then watch me take over the rest of the board, my maniacal laughter filling the room while I rolled my blue cannons over their silly little 1 unit resistance.

Yeah, I really don’t blame them for not playing with me anymore.

Regardless of my questionable strategies, those really don’t apply to Nexus Ops. As you can see, the board is made up of 17 tiles, or sectors, each fitting into one of 4 categories: Liquifungus Forest, Rock Plains, Crystal Spires, and Magma Pools. There is one sector in the middle, that being the monolith. Each player (up to 4) has their own 3 sector base, each one containing a refinery.

Refineries are important to keep and hold, as this is the main way to gain rubium, which allows you to buy new units. There are four opposing companies to choose from, all of which are trying to claim the moon’s resources for themselves. They only truly differ in their reasoning for being there, and of course in their color, but the units themselves are consistent across all four choices. The units are made up of Humans, Fungoids, Crystallines, Rock Striders, Lava Leapers, and Rubium Dragons. Humans are the cheapest, but good for holding territory (see tip above) while your other forces are elsewhere.

All other units have various advantages and disadvantages depending on what kind of sector they are occupying. For example, Crystallines are harder to hit and can inflict more damage if on a crystal spire sector. These sectors can also affect movement, as units like Rock Striders can move an extra hex if going towards or through a rock plain. There are plenty of different factors to consider every turn, which greatly appealed to me, but not so many that they become overwhelming.

You claim territories by either exploring that sector (if unoccupied) or by attacking and defeating the other units already there. Every sector at the beginning of the game contains one of a few different rewards. Either it will be an additional unit (or units), a refinery, extra rubium, or my favorite, a combo of energize cards. The others are self explanatory, but energize cards can drastically affect battles, as most of them allow either additional attacks, upped dice rolls, etc. We will go over battles in a second, but first let's talk about secret missions. At the end of every turn, you get one secret mission card. These cards are all worth different amounts of victory points. A standard game is won by collecting 12 victory points. Once you fulfill a secret mission requirement, you turn in that card and gain that amount of victory points (ranging from 1 to 3).

Now this is a combat intensive game, so how about we get to the meat and potatoes portion of it? Combat goes pretty quickly once you get going, and is a combination of dice rolling and adjusting to terrain effects. Each unit has a combat value, and that determines how much it takes to hit the other person, as well as its defense. If 3 players have a unit each in the hex, player 1 can attack player 2’s unit, win, and even though player 1 won that particular battle, the hex is still contested, since player 3 is still there. The game heavily skews towards the aggressor when it comes to sector control and battle, as there is really almost no reward for just holding or defending what you have. If a defender loses all of his units in a sector, he gets an energize card, but that is it.

Meanwhile, if the attacker wins that sector, he gets a victory point for winning the battle, whatever resource it had (if it had one), and might also fulfill a secret mission to gain another point towards victory. The various unit types are all needed at some point, and while the importance of one or two might change slightly depending on your play style, the game still encourages you to use a little bit of everything at your disposal to achieve victory.

Combat was fun and at times tense, but without being bogged down in the convoluted minutia that can happen in some games of this ilk. I did, however, find it hard to decipher the actual reward or definition, if you will, of the word battle. The rules use the word several times, but it has slightly different meanings. When defeating a unit, it is referred to as a battle, yet you don’t gain any rewards or control of the sector for just winning one battle, as you have to eliminate all other players from the sector before it is considered winning a "battle." Not a big thing, but it took several consults of the rules before me and two other people could truly suss that out, so it's worth mentioning. Labeling the defeat of a unit something different might have alleviated that confusion.

There are no expansions for Nexus Ops, a rarity nowadays, but the truth is the game doesn’t need one. The creators included about 6 to 8 additional gameplay modes and side options to keep you plenty busy. One of those, Vortex, changes the game completely with just the flip of one hex. Plus, even if you just want to play a standard game, you can flip the units card over to play with alternate versions of the standard units, complete with different stats and abilities. There is so much replayability here, and the core game only takes about 45 minutes to complete. I supremely enjoyed my time with Nexus Ops, and can’t wait to give it another go.

Zac Efron Drops The Beat in WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS Trailer

Do you enjoy the subplots in the Pitch Perfect movies about Anna Kendrick's character trying to make it as a record producer? You know, with all of those shots of her sitting at a laptop, wearing headphones, nodding her head to the beat, and trying to find her sound? Then you'll probably love We Are Your Friends, a new film starring Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl, the Blurred Lines music video). Warner Bros. has just dropped the first trailer, and it seems like the Millennial version of the rags-to-riches musician story, the result of throwing The Social Network and Magic Mike into a blender with an iPod full of EDM music. The movie hits theaters on August 28th. Check out the trailer and description below:

“We Are Your Friends” is about what it takes to find your voice. Set in the world of electronic music and Hollywood nightlife, an aspiring 23-year-old DJ named Cole (Efron) spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that will set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James (Bentley), who takes him under his wing. Things get complicated, however, when Cole starts falling for James’ much younger girlfriend, Sophie (Ratajkowski). With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he is destined for.

Check Out The Detailed Interfaces of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

I used to be an extra (or "background artist," as they often call themselves) in film and television, and on shows like NCIS: Los Angeles, I'd occasionally sit in front of a computer on a set that looked like a high-tech home base, pretending to type away as graphics swirled on the screen in front of me. The entire screen just repeated itself after about a minute or two, but you could tell that someone spent time crafting fake graphics and code to make it look like I knew what I was doing in case the camera happened to swing past me.

This new video from Territory Studio (via Sploid) reveals the work they did creating the interfaces in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron, and as you might expect, their creations blow away anything I saw when I was on set a few years ago. Check it out below, and you might form a new appreciation for elements of movies that you don't really concentrate on but still contribute to building the world you see on screen.

On Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Territory worked closely with production designer Charles Wood and the art department, to craft a visual language to support Whedon’s dark and gritty vision for the film and reflect the individual characteristics of the personalities in the story.
Tasked to bring an unprecedented level of realism to the beleaguered heroes and their technology, Territory created new visual identities and UI for the technology seen in Avengers Tower, including Stark lab and Banner’s research lab, the Quinjet aircraft and newly introduced characters the evil Baron Von Strucker and his Fortress stronghold, and Dr Cho, whose advanced medical lab supports the Avengers in the story.
With a creative approach that brings emotive depth to their work, Territory crafted technology, UI and tools that expressed each individual’s unique characteristics in digital form. And, by referencing research into state of the art clinical diagnostic technology, and the latest thinking in military, robotics and avionics technology, the team was able to bring a fresh level of authenticity to the Marvel universe.
In total, Territory created more than 200 screens and 80 minutes of unique animations across all 11 sets, making it one of Marvel’s most ambitious production to date at Shepperton Studio.

THE LAST SAMURAI Team Working With Tom Cruise on JACK REACHER 2

Once Tom Cruise finds good collaborators, he tends to work with them over and over again. Chris McQuarrie is a fine example: he wrote Valkyrie, Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, and Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. McQuarrie was supposed to direct a sequel to Jack Reacher, but he's apparently stepped down, so Cruise is finding other previous collaborators to take his place. Deadline reports that Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are in negotiations to rewrite the screenplay for Jack Reacher 2, and Zwick is in talks to direct. (Zwick directed Cruise in The Last Samurai, which Zwick and Herskovitz wrote alongside Bond screenwriter John Logan.)

The sequel is based on Lee Child's book Never Go Back, which follow Reacher as he "heads back to his old military based in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy, and fathering a child with a woman. He can’t remember either transgression, but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force." McQuarrie, who wrote and directed the original, will slide into an executive producer capacity here, but there's no word yet regarding a timetable for production, so Cruise may end up taking on another project first if one presents itself.

What did you think of the first Jack Reacher? Think it warrants a sequel? Excited to see Cruise reunite with The Last Samurai team?

There's a background character in Mortal Kombat X who's a sweet-looking old lady named Blanche. She's hangs out in the Outworld Marketplace, but she occasionally gets too close to the kombatants in the game and can be used as a freakin' weapon.

Until now, she's usually ended up being a helpless slump on the floor after being swung at the opponents who are fighting. Now thanks to a patch that was added to the game, she has her very own fatality!

You can watch a group of guys pull off the fatality in the video below, in which she bloodily beats the hell out of someone.

Simon Pegg Gives a State of the Union Speech About Geek Culture

simon-pegg-gives-a-state-of-the-union-speech-about-geek-culture

Simon Pegg has become a staple of geek culture with genre films such as Shaun of the Dead, Paul, and the Star Trek franchise, just to name a few. He has openly talked about his love of Star Wars, horror films, sci-fi, and comics. But he also has some interesting things to say about geek culture and the movies that are being made today.

During an interview with Radio Times, Pegg expressed his frustrations over these things, but later clarifies and goes into depth about his feelings on the matter on his personal website. Let's start out with a couple of statements that he made in the interview:

"Obviously I’m very much a self-confessed fan of science fiction and genre cinema. But part of me looks at society as it is now and just thinks we’ve been infantilized by our own taste. Now we’re essentially all consuming very childish things—comic books, superheroes... Adults are watching this stuff, and taking it seriously.
"Before Star Wars, the films that were box-office hits were The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Bonnie and Clyde, and The French Connection—gritty, amoral art movies. Then suddenly the onus switched over to spectacle and everything changed."

I understand what he's saying here, and it has been interesting to see how entertainment has evolved over the years. I love the films from the '70s, and I wish we would see more of those kinds of films today. The only problem is those kinds of film don't make money anymore, so studios aren't willing to take the risk.

Pegg even teased the idea at one point that he might "retire from geekdom," and said that he’s become the face of a movement, of a generation, of a subculture, and it sounds like something he doesn’t want. He also talks about doing things other than the genre films that have defined his career. This would allow him to do some "serious acting."

Now before you think that Pegg has turned on his fans, he gave a lengthy explanation of why he said what he said that makes a lot more sense. When everyone started turning what he said into a controversy, he had to explain himself. In the explanation, he made three main points:

  • I love Science Fiction and fantasy and do not think it’s all childish.
  • I do not think it is all generated by dominant forces as a direct means of control…much.
  • I am still a nerd and proud.

The whole piece is too lengthy to post here, so please head on over to his site to read it in its entirety. Here's a brief excerpt from it for you to read through:

"I guess what I meant was, the more spectacle becomes the driving creative priority, the less thoughtful or challenging the films can become. The spectacle of Mad Max is underpinned not only multiple layers of plot and character but also by an almost lost cinematic sense of ‘how did they do that?’ The best thing art can do is make you think, make you re-evaluate the opinions you thought were yours. It’s interesting to see how a cerebral film maker like Christopher Nolan, took on Batman and made it something more adult, more challenging, chasing Frank Miller’s peerless Dark Knight into a slightly less murky world of questionable morality and violence. But even these films are ultimately driven by market forces and somebody somewhere will want to soften the edges, so that toys and lunch boxes can be sold. In that respect, Bruce Wayne’s fascistic vigilantism was never really held to account, however interesting Nolan doubtless found that idea. Did he have an abiding love of Batman or was it a means of making his kind of movie on the mainstream stage?
"Fantasy in all its forms is probably the most potent of social metaphors and as such can be complex and poetic. No one could ever accuse Game of Thrones of being childish. George RR Martin clearly saw the swords and sorcery genre as a fertile means to express his musings on ambition, power and lust. Perhaps it milieu makes it more commercial though, would a straight up historical drama have lasted so long? Maybe Game of Thrones wouldn’t have been made at all ten years ago. A world without Game of Thrones?! if Baudrillard had predicted that, I probably would have dropped out of university and become a cobbler**.
"The point of all this is just to get my position clear. I’m not out of the fold, my passions and preoccupations remain. Sometimes it’s good to look at the state of the union and make sure we’re getting the best we can get. On one hand it’s a wonderful thing, having what used to be fringe concerns, suddenly ruling the mainstream but at the same time, these concerns have also been monetised and marketed and the things that made them precious to us, aren’t always the primary concern (right, Star Trek OST fans?)"

Pegg makes some great points, and it gives us and the rest of the entertainment industry something to think about. Pegg is one of my favorite actors. I love the films the guy makes, and he's always represented our culture with the upmost respect.

Honest Trailer For The Unintentionally Hilarious JUPITER ASCENDING

Screen Junkies are back with a new Honest Trailer for Jupiter Ascending, the Wachowskis' sci-fi space opera that landed with a thud earlier this year. I missed the screening of the film back in February, and because I'm a big fan of the writer/directors (I loved Cloud Atlas), I'm still looking forward to checking this out when it arrives on Blu-ray. But I've heard the film was awful and this Honest Trailer doesn't pull any punches, basically ripping it a new one. Check it out below:

CBS's ZOO Trailer: A Show About All of Earth's Animals Attacking Humanity

$

I really shouldn't be surprised anymore at some of the insane decisions that broadcasting networks make, but here we are again. CBS has released a first-look trailer for an upcoming show called Zoo that debuts sometime this summer, and it's about every animal on Earth somehow communicating with each other and organizing massive coordinated attacks on humanity. Again, I'm going to stress that this is a real show, not a fake one you'd see on something like Community or Forgetting Sarah Marshall making fun of network shows.

Zoo stars James Wolk, an actor I'm a big fan of (he played Bob Benson on Mad Men), and it's based on a 2012 novel by best-selling author James Patterson. But really, CBS? This premise is just so freaking ridiculous. This is actually a real line spoken in the trailer:

"I think these animals are communicating with each other...long distance."

Check out the official synopsis and trailer below, and let us know if this is a show you're going to watch:

In the series, a wave of violent animal attacks against humans begin taking place across the globe. As the assaults become more cunning, coordinated and ferocious, a young renegade biologist (James Wolk) is thrust into the race to unlock the pandemic’s mystery before there’s no place left for people to hide.

Marvel Releases Official DAREDEVIL Concept Art and Quotes On How it Came To Be

A lot of the early concept art we see for TV shows and films don't normally end up being the same exact design that we get in the final product. But this design for Marvel's Daredevil suit, created by artist Ryan Meinerding, is pretty much exactly what ended up in the show.

Marvel released the concept art along with an interview with the artist. He talked about the design he came up with, saying:

“The tone that was really communicated was the sense of realism that they were going for. I think the way that [manifested itself in] the costume was through the armor and making it feel a little bit more padded than you traditionally think of Daredevil being. When we do these designs, there’s a concept of grounded and a concept of reality. The grounded nature that they brought to the vigilante costume was the simplicity and effectiveness, because you’re trying to conceal your identity but also [have to be] mobile enough to fight.
“When you do a super hero costume in that world, it’s hard to be as real as you need to be, because you’re making it heightened. So you try and find the touchstones for that with armoring pieces that you would want armored, like your shins and your forearms for blocking and hitting as well as having things be riveted on. The overall layout of that costume is really that it’s meant to look like a Kevlar vest with stuff underneath it. That’s what we were going for.”

Marvel CCO Joe Quesada talks about what he liked about the costume saying:

“One of my favorite parts of the costume is that if you look very, very closely at some of the way the armature is attached to the costume, you can actually see rivets,” Quesada elaborates. “There was something about that particular element that I told Ryan, we should lean into that a little bit because that is so quintessentially New York and how the city itself is constructed. And Melvin Potter, being who a guy who’s working on engines [and] a bunch of different things, rivets seem like something he would use. Ryan also did some great stuff with respect to the placement of blacks against the red, the way that the darker portions of the mask are constructed to really give the full feeling of when comic artists draw that mask and rim light it in red while leaving the center portions black.
“The horns are iconic, and we had to be careful as to how we handled them,” remarks Quesada. “I think what Ryan did is absolutely spectacular, when you really look at the structure of the helmet and the horns, because those can be done in a way where they actually look silly. He created an architectural design, an angular design for the horns, that just feels natural to the cowl.”

It will be interesting to see how that costume evolves when Season 2 rolls around.

Brad Bird on the Challenges of Making THE INCREDIBLES 2

Last week, news hit that Brad Bird’s next film will be The Incredibles 2 for Pixar. He’s been developing a story for it for some time now, but he admits in an interview with IGN that it’s not going to be an easy process to make the film. He talked about one challenge he would have to face while making the movie, and that challenge is overcoming the over-saturation of superhero movies.

“A lot of superhero films have been made since Incredibles and it is kind of like an athletic field that’s just kind of dried up dirt now, with a few clumps of grass. And I think what the challenge is how do you step outside of that and say, ‘Hey, there’s another place for our heroes to go.’ So that’s kind of the challenge.”

He went on to say:

“People make a lot of following some kind of road map and Damon [Lindelof] and I can tell you from making [Tomorrowland] that you’re just bumping into furniture. Hopefully if you’re on the right path you don’t actually know where you’re going completely. I love those characters in Incredibles, but I’m also a moviegoer and I want to be surprised by movies. I want them to zig when they should be zagging. That’s the goal with that one.”

It’s going to be a few years before we see The Incredibles back on the big screen, so Bird has plenty of time to figure out how he wants to surprise his fans with the sequel. At this point it sounds like he’s got a story he wants to tell — now it’s going into the process of figuring out how to make it work in the best possible ways.

Batman Fan Art Fueled By The Imagination of Kids

Not long ago we shared some cool Star Wars art by artist Craig Davison. There's another series of geek-inspired art he made that revolves around Batman. He calls the series "The Batcave," and like the Star Wars art, it focuses on the imagination of kids. Davison's art inspires me; it reminds me of the way I used to feel when I was a kid.

I don't see much of this kind of playing from kids anymore. These days, most kids are homebodies that get all their entertainment from TV and video games.

FRIDAY THE 13TH Reboot Will No Longer Use Found Footage Style

$

Back in 2013, word came out that the new Friday the 13th reboot from Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company would tell the story using the found footage style. Fans of the franchise were not pleased at that news, and as always, they voiced their concerns here and on other sites online. But this time, the filmmakers actually seemed to listen to the complaints, because producer Brad Fuller told Shock Till You Drop that they're now abandoning that idea altogether:

“Listen, there was an outpouring of negative sentiment when it was revealed that Friday the 13th might have been a found footage movie. That was very clear to us that there was not a groundswell of support for that. That had tremendous amount of impact on us and only substantiated our concern about doing it as a found footage movie. Ultimately, the fact that the movie’s been delayed for a long time might be a good thing, because now the movie’s not going to be found footage.”

I'm guessing that update will certainly allow a large portion of the fan base to breathe a collective sigh of relief. While the found footage style may have brought a new visual element to the franchise, it really wouldn't make too much sense that a bunch of kids would be filming Jason Voorhees as he slashes people to death.

Fuller continues, giving some info about where director David Bruckner and the rest of the team currently stand on the new movie:

“...that was a road that we went down and tried to figure out. Ultimately, I think Michael, Drew [Form, another producer] and I felt that we couldn’t figure that out, so we kind of jettisoned that whole notion and we had to start over. We’re in the latter phases of that starting over and hopefully we’re getting a script in the next month or two, and we’ll go back to Crystal Lake.”

The new Friday the 13th film (which could explain Jason's immortality) already has a Friday the 13th release date, set for May 13th, 2016.

(Spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones.)

I'm not thrilled with the way Game of Thrones handled a certain plot development on the most recent episode, but it's tough not to smile when you see one of the show's best and most charismatic actors singing about the series. Peter Dinklage, who plays the always-awesome Tyrion Lannister, teamed up with Coldplay for "Game of Thrones: The Musical," which is really just a short song in which Dinklage recaps many of the deaths that have taken place in the show over the years.

This team-up is in support of Red Nose Day, the same comedy fundraiser that got Anna Kendrick to star in an Indiana Jones parody video. There's going to be some sort of big televised event this coming Thursday night on NBC, so tune in to see what all the hype is about.

A full trailer has been released for Fox's new anthology horror comedy teen slasher series Scream Queens. The show was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, who are the executive producing team that also brought us Glee and American Horror Story. I know a show like this isn't for everyone, but I think it has potential to be an entertaining series for horror genre fans.  Here's the synopsis:

Wallace University is rocked by a string of murders. Kappa House, the most sought-after sorority for pledges, is ruled with an iron fist (in a pink glove) by its Queen Bitch, Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts, “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” Scream 4). But when anti-Kappa Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis, Halloween, A Fish Called Wanda, True Lies) decrees that sorority pledging must be open to all students, and not just the school’s silver-spooned elite, all hell is about to break loose, as a devil-clad killer begins wreaking havoc, claiming one victim, one episode at a time. Part black comedy, part slasher flick, “Scream Queens” is a modern take on the classic whodunit, in which every character has a motive for murder… or could easily be the next blood-soaked casualty.

Scream Queens also stars Lea Michele (Glee), Abigail Breslin (Zombieland), Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live), Oliver Hudson (Nashville), Skyler Samuels (American Horror Story: Coven), Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee), newcomer Billie Lourd, Diego Bonita (Rock of Ages), Glen Powell (The Expendables 3), Lucien Laviscount (Episodes), Niecy Nash (Getting On), pop superstar and actor Nick Jonas (Kingdom), and Ariana Grande.

This is a pretty large cast, but I imagine a lot of the characters they play will be killed off during the course of the season.
