2 TOMORROWLAND Film Clips - "Jet Pack Ride" and "All Will Be Explained"

2-tomorrowland-film-clips-jet-pack-ride-and-all-will-be-explained

Disney has released a couple of new clips from Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, and for a company and director that doesn’t want the press to talk about the film yet because they want to keep the element of surprise, they are starting to reveal more than I think they should.

One of the clips is called “Jet Pack Ride,” and it was one of my favorite parts of the movie. It features the young version of George Clooney’s boy-genius character Frank taking a fun-filled ride through Tomorrowland while wearing a jet pack. I liked the imaginative sense of adventure of this scene. The second clip is called “All Will Be Explained,” and it features Britt Robertson trying to tell her dad (Tim McGraw) about the magical pin she had just come across.

Both scenes are really fun, and they give you a sense of the all around tone that the movie has. Tomorrowland hits theaters on May 22nd!

Dreamlike Animated Short Film AMUMU: THE CURSE OF THE SAD MUMMY

Curse-of-the-Sad-Mummy-11.jpg

Today’s short film is a surreal animated musical piece called "Amumu: The Curse of the Sad Mummy." It was created by Shy in the Sun, and it gives us the tragic back story behind a character named Amumu from League of Legends. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the game: don’t worry, you don’t need to be able to enjoy this beautifully made and somber short.

Riot Games was looking to come up with a piece that was musically driven and animated. Its dark, sad lyrics would narrate the back story of one of their existing League of Legends characters, Amumu. The intention was to contrast the sombre tone of the musical track with the funny, charming visuals of Amumu; he has a head that is far too large for his body and cloddish feet, which makes him a bit awkward. His lonely and emotional personality gave us a lot of scope to ply with when developing a storyline for this piece.
In terms of a visual style Riot were looking for something different to the typical 3D, action packed, realistically rendered short that is more typical for video games. They initially proposed a 2D “paper cut-out” style and we developed it from there.

I hope you enjoy it.

Simon Pegg Accidentally Reveals a Stormtrooper's Identity in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

simon-pegg-accidentally-reveals-a-stormtroopers-identity-in-star-wars-the-force-awakens

Over the past months there have been mountains of rumors surrounding J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Even though we've posted a lot, we haven't posted all of the rumors that hit the internet.

There was one unusual rumor that I remember seeing, but didn't pay much mind to. It involved a certain big actor who might show up in the film, but the rumor faded into obscurity until Simon Pegg accidentally revealed that the rumored actor would be playing a Stormtrooper in the movie.

Some diehard fans out there might consider this a SPOILER, so I'm throwing it out there so I don't get yelled at. Although, I just want to note, that there is nothing spoilerish about this. It's more like a bit of trivia that you'd never know unless someone told you.

So here's the information! While speaking with The Sun on the red carpet of his London premiere for Man Up, they asked him about his rumored involvement of the film, and it was at this point that he outed the Stormtrooper:

"I wasn’t a Stormtrooper. Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper. … I shouldn’t have said that."

So there it is. Daniel Craig plays a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I imagine his part in the film is just a cameo, and who knows if he'll even take his helmet off. The news was pointed out to me on the UK Independent, who went on to report that an inside source revealed the following:

"Daniel [Craig] asked for some sort of secret cameo role - and was happy to have his name left off the posters. Fans will love trying to work out which covered-up character is him."

I'm sure it will eventually be pointed out to us what Stormtrooper Craig plays in the film, but until that day, we'll just be left guessing.

Paramount Pictures and director David Green have cast Gary Anthony Williams in the role of the villainous sidekick Bebop in their upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel. As many of you already know, Bebop was the mutated pig who was always fighting the Ninja Turtles with his rhino mutant buddy Rocksteady. Both characters work for Shredder, the arch nemesis of the mutated turtles.

The news comes from Deadline, who explains that Bebop will start off as a "punk street thug member of a ragtag gang of misfits who acts as if he’s intellectually superior, but isn’t."

Williams is a character actor who has been in films and TV series such as The InternshipHarold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Boondocks, Raising Hope, and The Factory. He joins Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, and William Fichtner as Eric Sacks. Some of the newcomers to the franchise include Tyler Perry as scientist Baxter Stockman, Brian Tee as the new Shredder, and Laura Linney, who was cast in an undisclosed role.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set to be released on June 3rd, 2016.

1977 Recording of STAR WARS Audience Reaction in Movie Theater

1977-recording-of-star-wars-audience-reaction-in-movie-theater

There are a lot of us out there who weren't able to be a part of the Star Wars experience when it was first released back in 1977. Most of us weren't even born yet! But back in 1977, a 13-year-old kid named William Forsche took a tape recorder in a movie theater with his mom, and recorded the audience's reaction to the movie as it played out on the big screen.

This recording surfaced on YouTube a few years ago, but has been making the rounds on the internet recently. The audio takes us back in time and gives us a sense of what it might have been like sitting in the theater with the audience, and hearing their reactions. It's incredibly cool to listen to, especially when they clap and cheer in certain parts of the film like when Han Solo flies in with his Millennium Falcon to help Luke save the day near the end.

It may not be as good as actually being there, but it's the next best thing.

Matt Bomer Saddles Up With THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

The cast of Antoine Fuqua's remake of The Magnificent Seven continues to grow, and THR reports that Matt Bomer is the latest to join the all-star cast. Bomer, who earned rave reviews for his performance in HBO's The Normal Heart, won't be playing one of the titular seven, which currently consists of Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Wagner Moura, and possibly Byung-hun Lee (whose presence in the film has been confirmed, but his character details have not). Jason Momoa will play a henchman, and Luke Grimes' role is still under wraps.

The Equalizer star Haley Bennett has also been cast, and Bomer will play her character's husband, a guy who attempts to stand up to an evil robber baron who's terrorizing their small town. Fuqua's movies are pretty hit-or-miss for me — for every Training Day, there's a Shooter — but with this cast, The Magnificent Seven could end up being one of his better efforts.

Bomer will next be seen in Magic Mike XXL, which hits theaters on July 1st.

An amusing Star Wars-inspired prank video has surfaced that features a terrified Ewok with a lightsaber running away from an army of Stormtroopers. The Ewok hands the lightsaber off to some unfortunate bystanders who have apparently never seen Star Wars before, because some of them seem to be scared shitless when the Stormtroopers turn the corner run after them. The video is also loaded with silly and unnecessary sound effects.

There's a great trailer that has been released that you need to watch for a film called Into the Grizzly Maze. The movie has an amazing cast that includes James Marsden, Thomas Jane, Piper Perabo, and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie seemed to come out of nowhere, and it looks awesome. This is an action adventure that tells the story of a killer bear in the Alaskan wilderness. Here's the full synopsis:

After a relentless grizzly starts to wreak havoc on a small town, the sheriff heads into the forest to find his ecologist wife but instead crosses paths with his estranged, ex-con brother. They soon find themselves on the run from the massive killer bear. The hunted become the hunter in this edge-of-your seat thriller about the power of nature and the smell of blood.

The movie is set to be released on June 26th. Check out the trailer, and let us know if it looks like a film you'll be wanting to catch this summer.

Supercut: Paul Dano Getting The Crap Beat Out of Him

Have you ever noticed that Paul Dano always seems to play characters who are constantly getting their asses kicked? I'd never really thought of Dano as a particularly physical actor before, but seeing this supercut of him getting the crap beat out of him (via FSR), I think I need to rethink that. It's tough to sell the fact that you're taking a punch, and Dano not only sells fake punches, but fake kicks, knees, elbows, and all sorts of other vicious blows all over his body on a regular basis.

Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson Teaming Back Up For SHANGHAI DAWN

According to The Tracking BoardMGM is officially moving forward with a third installment of the comedy action/adventure western Shanghai franchise that starred Jackie Chan and Owen WilsonShanghai Noon was released in 2000, and in 2003 we got the sequel Shanghai Knights. Now, 12 years later, Chan and Wilson are reportedly teaming back up for Shanghai Dawn.

The first two films weren't amazing or anything, but I did enjoy watching them. The western buddy-comedy series paired the character's Chon Wang, a former imperial guard, with Roy O’Bannon, a small-time robber with big dreams, as they partnered up on crazy and dangerous adventures.

Jonathan Glickman will be producing the film for the studio, but as of right now no writer or director is attached to the project. Glickman has produced a ton of movies including the first two films in the franchise, which were both written by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

I could have gone through life not seeing another sequel to this franchise, but since they're making it, I'll probably end up watching it.

Alternate Hulk vs. Hulkbuster Scene Shown in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Animatic

Marvel Studios storyboard artist Federico D’Alessandro posted a video of an animated sequence he did for the Hulk vs. Hulkbuster scene early in the development of Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2013. It gives us an alternate version of the scene which includes some fun new dialogue.

As you'll see, the scene plays out pretty closely to what we saw in the final version of the film, but it's a little longer. There are a few differences that I'm sure you'll notice as you watch it, like Tony Stark blasting Hulk with his arc reactor chest piece, and several other things.

This is incredibly fun to watch, so make sure to check it out when you get a chance!

PREACHER: First Look Set Pic of Jesse Custer and Arseface

Earlier this week, Seth Rogen shared the first photo from the set of Preacher to mark the start of production on the pilot for the upcoming AMC TV series. It's been a long time coming for an adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's beloved comic, and after a bunch of failed attempts, it's finally happening.

Last night, Rogen (who is directing the pilot with Evan Goldberg and executive producing the series) shared a first-look image at Dominic Cooper in character as Reverend Jesse Custer as he speaks with Ian Colletti's Arseface, a kid who survived a suicide attempt (in the comics, it was a shotgun blast to the face in an effort to emulate Kurt Cobain). It's very shadowy, but you can see some of the posters on the wall have more modern bands featured, so perhaps the producers and showrunner Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will update other elements of the show as well. I'm insanely curious to see what this show looks like and if it retains the essence of the comic series, which is one of the most batsh*t crazy things I've ever read.

Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s twisted ’90s comic book series, “Preacher” is about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

10 Fun Facts About MAD MAX 2: THE ROAD WARRIOR

10-fun-facts-for-mad-max-2-the-road-warrior

With Mad Max: Fury Road being released in theaters this week, I thought I would put together a fun facts list for one of my favorite films in the franchise, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. I recently watched the very first Mad Max movie, which I hadn’t seen since I was 13 years old. I forgot how boring that movie was! The Mad Max franchise didn’t really take off until The Road Warrior exploded in theaters in 1981. So without further ado, here are some fun facts that you may or may not know about the film.

Some of the information comes from Imdb, but there are is also more information on the film that you can check out here. I also try to add some additional commentary and videos when I can in these posts.

  • Mel Gibson only has 16 lines of dialogue in the whole film, and two of them are the repeated line, "I only came for the gasoline." That’s about the same for Mad Max: Fury Road. Tom Hardy didn’t really say much.
  • According to a behind the scenes featurette that was released, one of the crazier stunts in the film was actually a serious accident. In the scene one of the motorcycle raiders hits a car, and the rider is flung off the bike where he smashes his legs against the car. From there he is set in cartwheel motions through the air towards the camera. This was a real accident that wasn’t planned. The stuntman was supposed to just fly over the car without hitting it. The accident was so dramatically awesome on film that director George Miller kept it in the movie. Luckily the stuntman survived. You can watch it in the video featurette below, and a clip from the film of that scene.
  • The stunt at the end of the chase that involved a tanker roll was so dangerous that the stunt driver was not allowed to eat any food 12 hours before they shot the scene. This was just in case he would have to be rushed into surgery if it went wrong. Below you can see a behind-the-scenes video.
  • The movie was shot in chronological order, which is unusual for an action film.
  • When the story was first conceived, the character Humungus was originally supposed to be Max's partner Jim Goose. They ended up not going with this plan, but left in a few clues, such as that horrible burns behind Humungus' goalie mask, his raider's use of police vehicles, and his own use of a similar weapon to the MFP's standard sidearm.
  • Since Gibson wasn’t really known in the US, the trailers for the movie didn’t spotlight the actor. They put all the focus into the action sequences. I included the original US trailer below.
  • The logo on the tanker truck reads "7 Sisters Oil," which is an reference to an early oil conspiracy theory that Standard Oil and six other companies controlled the world oil market, and that they bought up and suppressed the 200-MPG carburetor so that they could to keep oil prices up.
  • The Road Warrior was supposed to be the conclusion of the "Mad Max" storyline. Max's fate would never be revealed and Miller had no intentions of making a third film. It was when Miller started working on a post-apocalyptic version of Lord of the Flies that Beyond Thunderdome was shaped. It follows a tribe of children living in the wild, who are found by an adult. It was suggested to Miller that Mad Max should be the adult who finds the children, and so that became the third installment of the franchise.
  • According to Hot Dog Magazine's “Still Crazy After All These Years” by Pavel Barter (via: io9), Max's dog in the film was rescued by the filmmakers from being put to sleep in a shelter. According to the story, one day before the dog was to be put down, members of the crew visited they shelter looking for an animal to cast for the film. He was picked out of a number of other dogs because he picked up a rock off the ground and played with it. The crew members realized the dog could have a real presence on film and had the potential to be trained. Mad Max 2 ended up being the only film he appeared in.
  • The first cut of the film was even more bloody and violent than the final cut we saw. It was heavily cut down by the Australian censors. When it was submitted to the MPAA, two additional scenes had to be cut down. Those scenes included Wez pulling an arrow out of his arm as well as a close-up shot of him pulling the boomerang out of his dead boyfriend's head. Apparently there aren’t any full uncut versions of the film.

I've also included a video that features some deleted and alternate scenes from the film below.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Set Photos Show Crossbones Costume, Cap, and Falcon

Captain America: Civil War is currently in production, and some set photos have surfaced showing off some really cool stuff that fans might want to see. The photos we have feature Chris Evans as Captain America and Anthony Mackie as The Falcon sporting their new uniforms. We also now have our first look at Frank Grillo in costume as Crossbones! As you'll see in the photos below, the character looks wickedly badass.

If you don't want to know what Crossbones looks like, then I suggest you don't scroll through the photos below.

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Earlier today we posted an article about Mark Ruffalo hinting that he might be in the film. You can read about that here. The movie opens up on May 6th, 2016.

The Avengers Get Their Groove On in "Ultron Funk" Parody Video

Are you sick of hearing Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" yet? Too bad, because it's apparently the "Blurred Lines" of 2015, meaning that there will be an endless stream of parody videos until the next smash radio hit comes along to take the attention away from it.

In the meantime, though, here's the latest parody from the people at Screen Team, which reworks "Uptown Funk" into "Ultron Funk," a video featuring The Avengers busting a move opposite Tony Stark's evil robot creation. What's with everyone's desire to see The Avengers dancing? There was another video we posted that covered the same kind of thing. Check out their moves below:

Woody Allen Regrets His Amazon Deal, Doesn't Know What Streaming Service Is

Remember a few months ago when Woody Allen announced that he'd write and direct his first TV series, and that it'd be available on Amazon? At the time, Allen seemed very unsure of what he was going to do, and I wondered if he'd be able to come up with a concept that translated well to the television medium. Well, in a new interview with Deadline, Allen says that not only does he regret making the deal with Amazon, he doesn't even know what a streaming service is:

ALLEN: I don’t even know what a streaming service is; that’s the interesting thing. When you said streaming service, it was the first time I’ve heard that term connected with the Amazon thing. I never knew what Amazon was. I’ve never seen any of those series, even on cable. I’ve never seen The Sopranos, or Mad Men. I’m out every night and when I come home, I watch the end of the baseball or basketball game, and there’s Charlie Rose and I go to sleep. Amazon kept coming to me and saying, please do this, whatever you want. I kept saying I have no ideas for it, that I never watch television. I don’t know the first thing about it. Well, this went on for a year and a half, and they kept making a better deal and a better deal. Finally they said look, we’ll do anything that you want, just give us six half hours. They can be black and white, they can take place in Paris, in New York and California, they can be about a family, they can be comedy, you can be in them, they can be tragic. We don’t have to know anything, just come in with six half hours. And they offered a lot of money and everybody around me was pressuring me, go ahead and do it, what do you have to lose?
DEADLINE: So you said yes…
ALLEN: And I have regretted every second since I said OK. It’s been so hard for me. I had the cocky confidence, well, I’ll do it like I do a movie…it’ll be a movie in six parts. Turns out, it’s not. For me, it has been very, very difficult. I’ve been struggling and struggling and struggling. I only hope that when I finally do it — I have until the end of 2016 — they’re not crushed with disappointment because they’re nice people and I don’t want to disappoint them. I am doing my best. I fit it in between films, so it’s not like, no film this year, I’m doing Amazon. It’s a job within my usual schedule. But I am not as good at it as I fantasized I might be. It’s not a piece of cake; it’s a tough thing and I’m earning every penny that they’re giving me and I just hope that they don’t feel, ‘My God, we gave him a very substantial amount of money and freedom and this is what he gives us?’

Wow. So this project sounds like a disaster in the making. I guess when a company throws that much money at you, it's really tough to turn it down. We'll see if he can pull something interesting together before the end of 2016.

Guillermo del Toro Talks About His Cancelled SILENT HILLS Video Game

Guillermo del Toro continues to be one of the busiest guys in Hollywood, but a little bit of his time was freed up a couple of weeks ago when Silent Hills, the video game he was working on with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and Hideo Kojima, was abruptly cancelled. It was heartbreaking for fans of the game, and now, thanks to a new interview with IGN, we know it was heartbreaking for del Toro as well.

"The collaboration between Kojima and myself, the meetings, and the friendship that was developing was beautiful. We had an agreement on where to go. We had an agreement on how we were going to push the new platforms. We were having a blast.”
“What we wanted to do with the game – and we were very much in agreement on this – was to take the technology and make it as cutting-edge as we could in creating terror in the house. The idea was very, very atmosphere-drenched.
“But what made Silent Hill so great was that you had the atmosphere but then you a pay-off with a very active, very intense series of moments. We wanted to do some stuff that I’m pretty sure – just in case it ever comes back, which honestly I would love for somebody to change their mind and we can do it – but in case it comes back there was some stuff that was very new, and I wouldn’t want to spoil it.
“Norman was super happy, Hideo was super happy, and so was I. I know there’s a petition going on the internet and it’s gathering signatures. I would add my signature to it, and hope that someone pays attention.”

It sounds like there's a slight chance that the game could eventually come to fruition, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Konami claims they're committed to creating new Silent Hill games, but I don't know how likely it is that this same creative team reunites to make that happen. Fans would love it if that came to pass, but after such a weird public collapse, it just doesn't seem too likely at this point.

Midnight Society: The Black Lake #1 Review

Published by: Dark Horse Comics

Created, Written, and Drawn by: Drew Edward Johnson

Colored by: Lizzy John  |  Lettered by: Steve Dutro

Midnight Society was born out of creator and artist Drew Edward Johnson's love of pulp stories. The collision of practical science and the human imagination can be seen throughout Midnight, and the affection Johnson has for the era shines brightly in each page.

The art makes a huge first impression. Johnson’s pencils and Lizzy John’s colors are just terrific. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the look of this book; its bold colors and rich detailing completely pulled me in to Finn and Kaycee’s world. There is a great deal of time-hopping that goes on in the first issue, but the subtle changes in style and presentation help to keep you centered and aware of what period you're in.

The book also excels on the story front. Johnson weaves a fun and inventive tale of adventure and legacy. Even the heart strings get pulled a bit here, and maybe that’s what surprised me the most. The way they set the foundation for the story while also developing the leads, all in the initial issue, was impressive. More books should take notice of how that’s done in one issue, as opposed to dragging things out 2 or 3 issues deep before we start getting to know the lead characters in any meaningful way.

A little less than halfway through, we meet (presumably) the main character of the book, Matilda Finn, daughter of Arcturus Finn. She is setting out on a rescue mission to find her father's old friend, who was last seen on an expedition dedicated to unearthing the Loch Ness monster. You had me at Loch Ness, but throw in an intriguing mystery and I’m good and sold.

Granted, it would even be better with a Yeti, but hey, things can’t be perfect.

Who am I kidding? I don’t want just any Yeti, I want this Yeti:

Yeah, good times.

I can’t say enough good things about this book, so make sure to grab a copy when it releases on June 10th.
