Last year it was announced that Legendary Pictures was developing a series based on the popular '90s computer game franchise Myst. According to TV Line the series received a script-to-series commitment from Hulu.

The game follows a man who wakes up on a mysterious island. He has no idea how he got there, but players venture out on the island to "explore its grandeur and mystery." It has been described as "a chilling tale of intrigue and injustice, defying all boundaries of space and time."

Producer Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) is one board to spearhead the project from a script written by Evan Daugherty (Divergent).

When the project was first announced the video game developer Cyan Worlds released the following statement:

"Cyan's goal in working with Legendary is not just to create a compelling TV drama but to develop a true transmedia product that will include a companion video game that extends the story across both media. Seventy percent of tablet owners use their device while watching TV at least several times a week. Cyan sees the potential to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling to a new level."

Hopefully the show will end up being a series that fans of the game will enjoy.

As many of you already know by now, Anna Paquin’s Rogue mostly ended up on the cutting room floor in X-Men: Days of Future Past. A Rogue cut of the film was announced about a month ago, and it will include 17 extra minutes with the character.

Those extra minutes will include an entire action sequence in which Iceman, Magneto, and Professor X are rescuing Rogue from the Sentinels. There’s another part of the movie where she uses her powers to help keep Wolverine's mind in his younger body after he negligently injures Kitty Pryde. You can see an image of that scene above.

Director Bryan Singer has announced from the set of X-Men: Apocalypse in Montreal that the "Rogue Cut" will be available on July 14th. Here’s the tweet he sent out that says it's coming out on July 14th.

Batgirl’s Identity Revealed in BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT

Rocksteady recently revealed that Batman: Arkham Knight will include a prequel DLC that lets gamers play as Batgirl. Thanks to Rocksteady's Sefton Hill, it has been confirmed what version of Batgirl will be featured in the game.

Barbara Gordon will be wearing the cape and cowl in the game. The New 52 Comics features Barbara currently in a wheelchair after having undergone an experimental surgery to repair damage to her spine and restore full function of her legs. It will be good to see her back in action!

Players who purchase the DLC pass can take control of Batgirl in the prequel story expansion “A Matter of Family.” There aren’t many details about what the prequel DLC will include, but fans are speculating that it will be set after Arkham Origins, but before Arkham Asylum. There’s also word that it was inspired by the 1988 graphic novel The Killing Joke, which featured the Joker capturing and Barbra and torturing her. There’s no confirmation of that, though.

Batman: Arkham Knight will launch June 23rd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Chris Evans Says CIVIL WAR Sets up AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

If you thought Avengers: Age of Ultron was dark and awesome, it’s just the beginning of what we are going to see in Phase 3 of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. During a recent interview with MTV, Chris Evans talked about Captain America: Civil War and stopped short of calling it an Avengers film. There are going to be additional Avengers characters in the movie, and it’s going to set up what we eventually see in Avengers: Infinity War.

"Captain America: Civil War is the jumpoff into Avengers: The Infinity War [sic]. Civil War is going to be the setup for the real battle. So yeah, there are a lot of people - a lot of people in Cap 3."

The video features several interviews with the cast of the movie, and everyone admits to knowing who’s side they fall on in Civil War, but of course they won’t say what side that is. It’s either going to be team Captain America or team Iron Man. I fall on the side of team Cap, and I can’t wait to see how everything plays out in Civil War

Ultimate Night of the Living Dead Kickstarter Launched

Not long ago Ben told you about some new comics based in the universe of Night of the Living Dead. The publisher of these, Double Take, has started a Kickstarter campaign to get some additional funding for the first tier of issues, but that doesn’t seem to be the company’s only goal. Double Take (the comic publishing arm of Take Two) is seeking to garner a more robust community for their comics by getting the word out, as well as offering a really good deal for those who are interested in backing their campaign.

There will be 10 initial series of books based on this classic universe, and all of them will be available in comic stores this september. However, if you back their campaign you can essentially get all 10 first issues for $10, which even with $5 shipping is still a really good deal, especially since out of the 10 books there will likely be at least a series or two that will strike your fancy. Since they are running the campaign right now, you can head to their website to see previews of some of the books. Granted, some of them are further along than others, but they still give you a good idea of what to expect. Personally, Lab, Soul, Honor, Dedication, and Medic interest me the most, but there is something here for all fans of the horror genre. No preview for Medic yet, but after the cancellation of Silent Hills, the creepy hospital and zombie nurse vibe of the cover might just be enough to temporarily fill the void.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Adapting the Sci-Fi Novel BRAVE NEW WORLD

Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Television will be adapting Aldous Huxley's classic sci-fi novel Brave New World as a TV series. They are bringing in the Emmy award winning team who worked on SyFy Channel’s Taken to develop it.

Brave New World was first published in 1932, and it has been ranked fifth among the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th Century by Modern Library.

The story is set in “a world without poverty, war or disease. Humans are given mind-altering drugs, free sex and rampant consumerism are the order of the day, and people no longer reproduce but are genetically engineered in 'hatcheries.' Those who won’t conform are forced onto 'reservations,' until one of the 'savages' challenges the system, threatening the entire social order.”

As you can see from the description, this story has inspired a ton of other sci-fi stories that we’ve read and seen throughout the years.

The book adapted into script form by Les Bohem, who also wrote Taken, which was a series that I really loved. The show is set up at the SyFy Channel and president Dave Howe had this to say about the project in a statement:

"Brave New World is one of the most influential genre classics of all time. Its provocative vision of a future gone awry remains as powerful and as timeless as ever. Promising to be a monumental television event, Brave New World is precisely the groundbreaking programming that is becoming the hallmark of Syfy."

Hopefully the series ends up giving the story the adaptation it deserves.

Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Short — THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DAY

Here's a solid sci-fi short film called The Most Beautiful Day directed by Einar Kuusk. The story is set in the post-apocalyptic future, and it centers on a man trapped in a bunker. The only way he can get out is through a ventilation shaft, but there’s an alien creature trapped in it that he must face off with if he’s going to get out.

"A young man named Sherman survives the apocalypse in a soviet-style alternate reality and when trying to find his place outside an isolated city, gets stuck in an underground bunker."

The movie has a pretty lengthy build-up, but I still really enjoyed it. Maybe you will too.

ROBOCOP, DC Comics, and Other Webseries Coming From Machinima

Machinima is developing several new projects that will be be distributed as web series. One of those projects include RopoCop, which is interesting. I never thought that I’d see RoboCop as a web-series, but it’s happening. Apparently it will be shot from the POV of RoboCop. There are also a few DC-related series that sounds like fun, along with a show from Clive Barker that will feature short horror films.

You can see the details of all of them below thanks to Machinima. Check out the list, and let us know which ones you're looking forward to checking out.

RoboCop

“Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.” OCP’s Security Concepts Division’s RoboCop program is back in an all-new, short-form limited web series, based on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s 1987 classic action film. RoboCop returns to Delta City where viewers ride along with the now standard-issue RoboCop officers as they respond to calls from dispatch. Tapping into current themes of the surveillance state, the series is shot from the first person point of view of the RoboCop officers’ heads up display, along with security cameras, dash-cams, and drones.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles Season 2

From visionary producer and animator Bruce Timm, “Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles” turns the DC Universe upside-down. In this dark, alternate world, telling the good guys from the bad guys is never easy: Superman is not the son of Jor-El, he’s the son of General Zod; Wonder Woman is not from peaceful Themyscira, but rather the warring nation of Ares; and Batman is more vampire-bat than man…and he’s not Bruce Wayne. It is unclear if our greatest heroes are here to protect us…or to rule us. With Season 1 set to launch in June, Machinima, Blue Ribbon Content and DC Entertainment have already begun development on Season 2, a 10-episode follow-up to the initial limited series.

DC’s Hero Project

Machinima, Blue Ribbon Content, and DC Entertainment are setting out to discover the next great creator for the world of DC Comics. Eight contestants compete in elimination challenges to develop a live-action short video based on their own interpretations of characters from DC Comics’ “Starman” comic book series. Well-known guest judges and celebrity special guests will join bestselling writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and a panel of esteemed judges to oversee the entire competition.

#4Hero

A modern adaptation of DC Comics’ cult-favorite classic “Dial H For Hero,” #4Hero is a live-action, VFX-heavy action-comedy about a young woman named Nellie Tribble who is quietly desperate to make her mark on the world, but wholly unprepared to do so. Nellie stumbles upon a life-altering smartphone app that allows her to instantly become a Super Hero for a short amount of time. The problem is her super powers are dictated by whatever is trending on social media at that moment, and they are always only semi-useful.

Clive Barker’s Creepy Pasta

For the first time, horror legend Clive Barker is stepping away from the creatures of his own imagination and entering into the world of Internet horror fan fiction, affectionately known as Creepy Pasta. Starting with viral urban legends (e.g. Jeff the Killer, Slender Man and Ben Drowned), Clive Barker’s “Creepy Pasta” is an original series of live-action, blood-curdling short films. These new tales will be curated and adapted by Barker from submissions obtained through the creepypasta community, and produced by Machinima to scare you to your core.

Happy Wheels

Machinima will bring audiences an all-new original animated series based on Jim Bonacci’s hit online game “Happy Wheels” and produced by BMP Digital, the digital division of Bunim/Murray Productions. This must-see 10-episode short form series, which will feature fan-favorites such as Wheelchair Guy, Irresponsible Dad and Lawnmower Man, will expand upon the game that has more than 8 million players a month and showcase its notorious dark humor and penchant for blood and gore. Additionally, with over 3.1 billion video views amassed, BMP Digital is looking to leverage the voiceover talents of YouTube influencers such as Toby Turner (15.2M YouTube Subscribers) and others who have made this game so iconic.

Jerome ASF’s The Baka Chronicles

Adding to the gaming fervor, Machinima’s iconic Minecrafter Jerome ASF (3.6M YouTube Subscribers), will be teaming with N00b Adventure creator Jim Schwerfeger for an all-new series – “The Baka Chronicles.” Featuring Jerome ASF’s most beloved character, Baka, the series follows two unlikely server admins who problem-solve the hilarious antics of griefers, trolls, and kids who wreak havoc across their favorite multiplayer Minecraft server. Little do our heroes realize this job is a massive headache.

High School 51

Created and produced by Roberto Orci and Legion of Creatives, and starring Orlando Jones, “High School 51” is as out of this world as the name implies. Hidden away in the heart of Area 51, Dream Lake High School is filled with mind-blowing technology, top-secret government programs and a student body that is cool, quirky, attractive, and…well, alien. No one from the outside has ever been allowed into the school and no human has ever attended…until now. For 16-year old Alex Valencia, the first and only human ever to attend Dream Lake, high school is going to be tough. Fitting in will be one thing but his biggest challenge just might be saving the human race!

Is This The Reason Why Marvel Didn’t Jump on Female-Led Comic Book Films?

is-this-the-reason-why-marvel-didnt-jump-on-female-comic-book-films

A new Sony email has surfaced via The Huffington Post that gives us some insight into why we haven’t seen a female superhero movie from Marvel yet. Captain Marvel is coming in 2018, but we’ve still got a ways to go. Just in case you were wondering why the studio hasn’t jumped on getting a female-led movie out sooner, this e-mail from Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter to Sony CEO Michael Lynton sheds some light on what their thought process is based on: money. Perlmutter was responding to an e-mail that offers some examples of terrible female-centric comic book films that bombed at the box office.

1. Electra (Marvel) – Very bad idea and the end result was very, very bad. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=elektra.htm
2. Catwoman (WB/DC) - Catwoman was one of the most important female character within the Batmanfranchise. This film was a disaster. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=catwoman.htm
3. Supergirl – (DC) Supergirl was one of the most important female super hero in Superman franchise. This Movie came out in 1984 and did $14 million total domestic with opening weekend of $5.5 million. Again, another disaster.

So there ya go. The CEO wasn't very thrilled about pumping money into a film that he thought would bomb. I guess Perlmutter isn’t as confident in Marvel Studios as we thought he might be after all the success they've had. The studio's been producing one great comic book movie after another, but there must still be a fear that a movie focusing on a strong female character could still bomb.

The thing is, superhero films have changed so much since those movies were released, and it seems like Marvel has a working formula that has proven to be successful no matter what movie they produce.

Let's face it though, these CEOs probably live in a sheltered world, and they are all about making money, and they are going to push the projects that rake in the cash. Hopefully when Captain Marvel is released on November 2nd, 2018, it succeeds and blows away their expectations, so that we will see more of them.

Earlier this week, T.J. Miller was a guest on Conan, and he was asked about the Deadpool movie that’s currently in production with Ryan Reynolds. Miller is playing the Merc With A Mouth's sidekick, Weasel, and in the interview he starts to hilariously spill all kinds of detailed information about the movie that you’re going to want to hear. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers. This guy knows how to say a lot without really saying anything at all.

Robert Downey Jr. Producing Psychological Thriller HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS

robert-downey-jr-producing-psychological-thriller-head-full-of-ghosts-social.jpg

Focus Features is developing a film based on an upcoming psychological thriller book called A Head Full Of Ghosts, and Robert Downey Jr. is on board to produce it.

The book was written by Paul Tremblay, which will be published in June. The story centers on “a normal suburban New England family being torn apart when the 14-year-old begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia — leading to tragedy as the family attempts an exorcism and finds themselves the subject of a reality TV show.”

Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski will co-write the script for the movie, and here’s a more detailed description from the book:

The lives of the Barretts, a normal suburban New England family, are torn apart when fourteen-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia.
To her parents’ despair, the doctors are unable to stop Marjorie’s descent into madness. As their stable home devolves into a house of horrors, they reluctantly turn to a local Catholic priest for help. Father Wanderly suggests an exorcism; he believes the vulnerable teenager is the victim of demonic possession. He also contacts a production company that is eager to document the Barretts’ plight. With John, Marjorie’s father, out of work for more than a year and the medical bills looming, the family agrees to be filmed, and soon find themselves the unwitting stars of The Possession, a hit reality television show. When events in the Barrett household explode in tragedy, the show and the shocking incidents it captures become the stuff of urban legend.
Fifteen years later, a bestselling writer interviews Marjorie’s younger sister, Merry. As she recalls those long ago events that took place when she was just eight years old, long-buried secrets and painful memories that clash with what was broadcast on television begin to surface—and a mind-bending tale of psychological horror is unleashed, raising vexing questions about memory and reality, science and religion, and the very nature of evil.

Sounds like it has potential to be a great and intense movie!

Greg Berlanti to Produce Adaptation of Comic INFINITE HORIZON

$

Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to the comic book miniseries The Infinite Horizon from Image Comics, and Greg Berlanti is spearheading an adaptation. He’s the writer and producer behind TV shows such as Arrow and The Flash. It's unclear whether this version will ultimately be on film or television.

The six-issue comic was created by writer Gerry Duggan and artist Phil Noto, and the first issue was published in 2007. (The rest followed in 2011.) The story is heavily inspired by Homer’s The Odyssey, and it’s a military story that’s set in the near future. It follows “a soldier who leads a group of abandoned soldiers on a 10-year journey back home. Along the way, he faces shipwrecks, an opponent wearing Cyclops-like battle tech armor and the call of sirens.”

This sounds like a serious awesome story, and Ryan Condal is writing the script. I’m not sure that writer inspires confidence in the project, as he’s the same person who wrote Brett Ratner’s terrible Hercules movie with Dwayne Johnson. Hopefully Berlanti can steer him in the right direction.

There’s a lot of potential with this project, and I hope they can pull off the epic scale of it.

Emily Blunt is Going Bull Riding BRONCO BELLE

$

Emily Blunt is one of my favorite actresses working today, she’s a talented individual that has been able to pull off a lot of different roles in her career. One of my favorites was the character she played in Edge of Tomorrow

Now it looks like she’s going to be riding bulls! Screen Daily is reporting that the actress has been cast in a bull-riding drama called Bronco Belle

She will be playing a character named Raylene Jackson, described as “a stubborn but vulnerable and determined American woman with a chip on her shoulder who dreams of becoming a champion bull-rider.”

In the story she is supported by "an old-time trainer out to redeem himself and a hustler promoter," as she "battles through heartbreak, prejudice, broken dreams and bones to reach the top of the sport.”

The film comes from writer and director Khurram Longi, who talked about what inspired the story:

“We were driving down from New York and ended up in Texas where by chance we stumbled across the world of rodeo. I had never been to one before.
“We started to follow the rodeo trail and the world inspired me to write this script. During the writing I was influenced by films like Thelma and Louise and The Colour of Money.
“For me this is a female Rocky-on-a-bull type of film. I thought it was a great hook. After seeing Emily in Edge of Tomorrow I thought she would be perfect so had her in my mind as I was writing it.”

I’m really not into rodeos, but I do like these kinds of inspirational stories of triumph. On top of that, Blunt stars in the film, so you can count me in.

David Fincher’s 1980s Set Music Video HBO Series VIDEO SYNCHRONICITY Greenlit

David Fincher has been developing a series for HBO that was called Living on Video, the title of which has since been changed to Video Synchronicity. The cable network greenlit the series and gave it a season order.

The story is set in 1983 Los Angeles, and it centers on a character named Robby, “a wide-eyed guy who drops out of college and drives to Hollywood with dreams of directing a sci-fi epic. He lands a job as a production assistant for a company that makes music videos.”

Charlie Rowe (Red Band Society) was cast in the lead role, and two episodes have already been shot. The new show is described as being along the same lines of HBO’s Entourage, as it “revolves around the players of the then-exploding music video industry — directors, record executives and crew members, many of them who dabble in drugs — as told through the eyes of a newcomer.”

With Fincher leading the charge on this project, it’s sure to be great. I think he’s one of the most talented individuals working in Hollywood right now, and he got his start by directing music videos. So it makes sense that he would want to focus his efforts on a project like this.

Hulk Runs Some Errands in Animated Comedy Sketch

FOX’s Animation Domination High-Def has created and released a new Marvel-themed animated short. This one follows the Hulk (Bruce Banner) as he runs his errands around town. He has a long list of things to do, and he smashes his way through an incredibly long list that he made out. It’s basically Hulk just going through stuff that a lot of us normal people do, like paying the gas bill online, taking the dog to the veterinary clinic, getting a new driver’s license, waiting for the cable guy, and more. It’s just never looked so dangerous.

The SyFy Channel Greenlights THE MAGICIANS TV Series

The SyFy Channel announced earlier this week that they will be developing a new TV series called The Magicians, which is based on a book trilogy by Lev Grossman. The network has greenlit 12 episodes, and it will star Jason Ralph (A Most Violent Year, Aquarius) as Quentin Coldwater, who is a brilliant grad student that enrolls in Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, which is a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic.

The story has been described as an upperclass more mature type of Harry Potter. The pilot episode of the series was directed by I Origins and Another Earth director Mike Cahill. Here’s a synopsis of the book:

Like everyone else, precocious high school senior Quentin Coldwater assumes that magic isn’t real, until he finds himself admitted to a very secretive and exclusive college of magic in upstate New York. There he indulges in joys of college-friendship, love, sex, and booze- and receives a rigorous education in modern sorcery. But magic doesn’t bring the happiness and adventure Quentin thought it would. After graduation, he and his friends stumble upon a secret that sets them on a remarkable journey that may just fulfill Quentin’s yearning. But their journey turns out to be darker and more dangerous than they’d imagined.

Sounds like it will make for a great series! Grossman had this to say about the project in a statement:

“Ever since ‘The Magicians’ was published I’ve wanted to see this story on screen. The people, the school, the other worlds, the magic. I’m so thrilled that it’s finally happening, and I’m beyond thrilled that we found the right people to do it. Get ready; you’ve never seen anything like this.”

They sure did get some talented individuals to bring the story to life, so it seems like there’s a chance it will be a decent series that is to the authors liking. The series also stars Stella Maeve (Chicago P.D.), Hale Appleman (Teeth), Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie) and Summer Bishil (Towelhead, Lucky 7).

There’s no word on how much of the story the twelve episodes will cover, but the books that it’s based on are called The Magicians, The Magician King and the final book in the series is The Magician’s Land. I just assume the first season will span the first book, and if it’s successful we’ll see a couple more seasons based on the other books.

Have you read the book series? Does it sound like it will be a series you’d find worth watching?

3 New Clips for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Zombie Film MAGGIE

$

When talking about his new zombie movie Maggie, Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “This is the most human zombie film you have ever seen.” As  fan of the zombie genre, this is a movie that I’m looking forward to seeing. I’m always looking for zombie films that will try to do something within the genre that has never been done before, and this looks like one of those.

We have a couple new clips from the film for you to check out, and here’s the synopsis:

By the time a necrotic viral pandemic spread cross- country to small town America and infected the film’s titular character, 16-year-old MAGGIE (Breslin), authorities had established a protocol for patients infected with the deadly virus: they are removed from society and taken to special isolation wards to complete the agonizing and dangerous transformation into one of the walking dead.

The movie was directed by Henry Hobson, and it’s based on a script written by John Scott 3, which made the industry’s 2011 Blacklist for best unproduced screenplays.

In regards to that script, Schwarzenegger said:

“When my team brought me this script and told me it was on the Blacklist, meaning it is one of the best scripts that hasn’t been made, I was intrigued. You’re used to seeing me play the ‘ubermensch’, the action hero bullets can’t seem to hit. In Maggie, I am the everyman, a stoic farmer dealing with the most basic concerns‐ protecting his family, and savoring every last second with his daughter.
“We’ve seen the zombie hordes and machine guns in other movies – it all seems like an unbelievable future. Maggie makes the disease real by shrinking the world of the movie to focus on one family, in the middle of nowhere, on their wasted farm. When I read it, I knew I had to do it. It is more vulnerable than any role I have played, more real, more emotional.”

Maggie also stars Abigail Breslin, and it's currently out in limited release.
