Nintendo Teams With Universal For Rides and Character Appearances at Theme Parks

$

How would you like to go on a Mario-themed ride at Universal Studios? How about a Star Fox space simulator? Want to snap a pic with Luigi? It seems as if all of that could soon be possible, because Variety reports that Nintendo has teamed up with Universal Studios with the intention of creating rides, attractions, and character appearances for attendees to enjoy when they visit the theme parks.

There aren't many details available at the moment, but this deal marks the first one of its kind for Nintendo, who is notoriously stingy when it comes to their intellectual property. They've largely kept to themselves over the years, but as their video games fall behind its competitors' in cultural perception, the company is beginning to expand out of just gaming and into other realms of entertainment. There's also some talk that they're looking to produce video content based on its characters, which is good news for fans who were excited about news of a Legend of Zelda TV series a few months ago. The company later denied that show was happening, but now it appears that they might be open to the idea, so we'll keep you posted when we know more.

Stunning Futuristic Action Thriller Short — STATE ZERO

stunning-futuristic-action-thriller-short-state-zero

You guys have got to watch this stunningly cool post-apocalyptic sci-fi short called State Zero. It was directed by Andrée Wallin, and I think you'll be surprised by how awesome this movie turned out. Here's the setting:

In the near future, the capital of Sweden has turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. We join four soldiers on a routine mission in ‘zone 3’, with the assignment to investigate an old surveillance tower that just went offline.

As you might expect, the mission takes a turn for the worse and things get really intense. There are a lot of special effects in the short, and the visuals and designs look stunning. They were done by the CGI and VFX team at Bläck.

This is the first film that Wallin has directed, and he sure hit a home run. The movie was shot in London with an international cast, with all the exteriors shot in Stockholm.

This short has the quality you'd see in a big budget feature film.

Marvel's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Will Be Shot Entirely With IMAX Cameras

In our write-up about how The Russo Brothers will film about 15 minutes of Captain America: Civil War with new IMAX digital cameras, Free suggested that one day it'd be possible for an upcoming blockbuster to be shot completely with the new technology. Little did he know that that's exactly what would happen with the filmmakers' next movie.

In a new press release, IMAX confirms that The Russos will shoot the entirety of the two-part Avengers: Infinity War movies using a next-generation IMAX 2D digital camera that's a customized version of ARRI's Alexa 65. Films like The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens used IMAX film cameras for small sections, but this will be the first Hollywood blockbuster made entirely with a digital IMAX camera.

The Russos released a joint statement:

"The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax. We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera."

We already knew this movie was going to be huge, and it looks as though Marvel decided that IMAX was the only true way to capture the enormity of the epic battles and culmination of the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 arrives on May 4, 2018, and Part 2 arrives on May 3, 2019.

Hugh Jackman On Why He's Walking Away From Wolverine

$

Over the last year, Hugh Jackman has been very wishy-washy about playing Wolverine and how much longer he would be playing the character. First X-Men: Days of Future Past was going to be his last movie, then he was going to play the character until he died. Now Wolverine 3 seems like it will in fact be the very last time that Jackman busts out his claws.

While appearing on the Dr. Oz Show, Jackman told the host that the 2017 Wolverine movie would be his last, and he explained why in the following quote:

"It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. … I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."

There have been rumors that the next movie was inspired by the comic book run Old Man Logan, which I hope is true. If it is, it really would be the perfect exit for Jackman as this legendary superhero character.

No official plot details for Wolverine 3 have been revealed, but there's a chance that maybe Patrick Stewart will be reprising his role as Professor X in the story. Jackman has served this character well over the years, and I hope his final performance of the character is his best one yet. Wolverine 3 will hit theaters on March 3, 2017.

SUICIDE SQUAD: David Ayer is "Creating A Brotherhood," Plus See Harley Quinn Tattooing Joker

Suicide Squad continues to dominate the news cycle as everyone eagerly awaits the supervillain team-up movie. Speaking with Entertainment City on the set of the film (via THR), director David Ayer offered a few brief thoughts on the production so far:

"It's just so exciting to bring a show like this to the streets and get out in the real world with real people...I'm all about real drama, real performance, and real people, so my twist on this is, I'm creating a family. I'm creating a brotherhood here. I'm creating a very real chemistry, and I have this incredible ensemble of actors led by Will Smith who are basically playing dimensional characters with lives and souls."

It was my understanding that Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flagg was supposed to be the main character in this movie, but I guess when you have a movie star like Smith on the team, you've gotta give him some props and call him the lead of the ensemble. It'll be interesting to see how much screen time everyone gets when it's all said and done.

Also, ScreenCrush points us to a possible leaked photo from the movie that features Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn as the one who gave Jared Leto's Joker all of those tattoos. I'm not sure if this is real or not, but if it is real, it certainly makes sense that Harley would be the one inking up Mr. J.

Suicide Squad blasts into theaters on August 5th, 2016.

Last year, Marvel launched a Spider-Gwen comic that became insanely popular. So popular, in fact, that now she has been reimagined as several Avengers and X-Men characters in the Marvel Comics universe.

In June, Gwen will be taking over the entire Marvel Comics catalog with a radical series of 20 different variant covers. You get to see what the character would look like as the Hulk, Captain America, Wolverine, Cyclops, Thor, Magneto, and more. Here's an explanation of what Marvel is doing:

She’s smart, charming and she can lift a car! She’s Gwen Stacy, the Spectacular Spider-Woman and she comes to you each month in the pages of the critically acclaimed SPIDER-GWEN series! But what if Gwen Stacy had lifted Mjolnir to become Thor: Gwen of Thunder? What if she had been awarded the Eye of Agamotto, and battled the forces of the supernatural as Dr. Gwenge? Find out as she powers up for June’s can’t miss GWEN VARIANTS, as the industry’s top artist show you a side of Gwen Stacy you’ve never seen before!
“Gwenom? The InGwenible Hulk? The Mighty AGwengers? What about G.W.E.N.D.O.K.?,” asks Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “The possibilities are endless. As soon as the idea came together to portray Gwen as a variety of Marvel heroes, our artists couldn’t sign up fast enough. They’re having a ton of fun putting these together and it shows.”

It's crazy, but it's awesome! Check out several piece of cover art that have been created below. Thanks to MTV and Marvel for the art and details.

Charlize Theron's Furiosa Gets Her Own MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Featurette

$

Early word was that Mad Max: Fury Road would be the first in a new series of Mad Max movies, and the second film would be called Mad Max: Furiosa and presumably spend more time on Charlize Theron's badass character. The two movies were originally set to film back-to-back, but that didn't happen and Theron has made a few comments that indicate that she may not be interested in returning to play the character again (behind-the-scenes drama on set indicated that she and co-star Tom Hardy didn't really get along very well, a claim Hardy has denied). At least we know Hardy will probably return for more, since he's signed on for three more sequels

But even if there was some drama during filming, it doesn't look like it had a negative impact on the movie. Fury Road looks incredible (even moreso after seeing Miller direct some of those crazy stunt sequences), and following this morning's featurette about the character of Max, Theron's Furiosa got her own over at EW. Batman: Arkham Knight is one of the few upcoming games that make me want to go out and buy a PS4. Not only does the game look awesome and allow you to utilize The Batmobile, but it also features one of the best voice casts in modern gaming. In a new video from Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the cast is given its time to shine. The game stars Kevin Conroy as Batman, Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) as Commissioner Gordon, Ashley Greene (The Twilight Saga) as Barbara Gordon AKA Oracle, John Noble (Sleepy Hollow, Fringe) as Scarecrow, Scott Porter as Nightwing, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, Troy Baker as Two-Face, and Nolan North as Penguin.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on June 23rd. Check out the video below:

If the title wasn't enough warning for you, be warned now: you probably shouldn't watch this at work. Unless, of course, you work at a place that's cool with you watching videos of people being brutally slaughtered and beheaded. Technically, they're not "people" as much as "video game characters," but I'm guessing most bosses probably wouldn't be thrilled to look over your shoulder and see you checking this out when you should be working on those TPS reports.

ANYWAY...here's the newest trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Huntcalled "Rage & Steel." The game has been delayed multiple times over the past year or two, and I know fans are eager to finally get their hands on it. You don't have much longer to wait: it hits shelves on May 19th.

These Texts From Superheroes Are Even Funnier After AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

It's always amusing to imagine what superheroes would do in the mundane moments when they're not saving the world. Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron gave us a glimpse into that world by showing The Avengers hanging out and partying in Stark Tower, but what would happen if they were constantly texting each other? The gang at Texts From Superheroes has an idea, and these conversations are pretty damn funny. (Although the first one indicates that they probably didn't stick around for the mid-credits sequence.)

Joss Whedon Rumored to Direct STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

joss-whedon-rumored-to-direct-star-wars-episode-ix

There's a rumor that is spreading like wildfire across the internet regarding Joss Whedon directing Star Wars: Episode IX. The rumor originated at the Get Your Geek On podcast, and was picked up by Movie Pilot. I just thought I would address it here since people have been asking me about it.

They say that Whedon "is a lock" for the project. I personally think it's unlikely that Whedon is going to direct a Star Wars movie anytime soon. As you know, the director just got finished directing the epic Marvel film Avengers: Age of Ultron. That was a huge project for him, and it was not any easy one for him to do, which is one of the reasons why he passed on Avengers: Infinity War. A few months ago, he said this in an interview:

“I couldn't imagine doing this again. It's enormously hard, and it'd be, by then, a good five years since I created anything that was completely my own. So it's very doubtful that I would take on the two-part Infinity War movie that would eat up the next four years of my life.”

He makes it pretty clear here that he would like to make an original film of his own, and not take on a project that will take several years to make. Neither of these things match up with him taking on a Star Wars film project.

The director recently cancelled his Twitter account so he wouldn't have that distraction to deal with now that he's writing again. What's he writing? I have no idea, but I imagine it's one of several original ideas that he's probably been itching to develop.

I'm sure that Disney and Lucasfilm have approached him at some point to take on a Star Wars film. From several interviews that he's given, though, it just doesn't sound like the kind of project that he's looking to take on right now.

If it turns out that Whedon will be working on a Star Wars film...awesome! I just personally don't see it happening. So that's what I think about the rumor. What do you think?

Extended JURASSIC WORLD Spot - "Everyone Remain Calm"

"It's like taking a stroll through the woods... 65 million years ago."

Universal Pictures has released an extended spot for director Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World. It features a bit of new footage and a very familiar roar that you'll all recognize, but it's from a different species of dinosaur than you'd expect.

The adventure is set 22 years after the events of Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 film adaption of Jurassic Park, which is still just as awesome today as it was all those years ago. I'm amazed by how well that movie has aged.  Hopefully this new chapter in the story is the one that the franchise deserves.

Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard (Spider-Man 3), Ty Simpkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3), Jake Johnson (Let’s Be Cops), Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summer), Irrfan Khan (The Amazing Spider-Man), Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil), BD Wong (Jurassic Park), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Judy Greer (Tomorrowland).

Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12th, 2015.

Natalie Portman in Talks to Join Post-Apocalyptic Horror Film ANNIHILATION

natalie-portman-in-talks-to-join-post-apocalyptic-horror-film-annihilation

Natalie Portman is in early negotiations to star in a post-apocalyptic horror adventure film called Annihilation. The movie is being directed by Alex Garland whose most recent film, Ex Machina, has been met with solid reviews and positive buzz. I thought Ex Machina was great, and I’m looking forward to this next project that he’s taking on.

Annihilation is an adaptation of an upcoming book by Jeff VanderMeer, and the story centers on a biologist, who will be played by Portman. She takes part in “a four-person expedition into Area X, a territory cutoff from civilization. While there, she must deal with a mysterious contamination, disappearing colleagues, a deadly animal and a being known as the Crawler, all while searching for clues regarding her husband’s disappearance.”

Garland wrote the script for the film. If you don’t already know, the guy is an amazing screenwriter who has also worked on films such as 28 Days Later, Sunshine, The Beach, and Dredd. This seems like a perfect project for him to direct, and the fact that Portman could star in the film is awesome. She tends to choose really good projects, and it’s always a pleasure watching her up on the big screen — except for those Star Wars prequel films, but that's not her fault.

Joss Whedon on Captain America’s Last Line in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Minor Spoilers for those who haven't seen Avengers: Age of Ultron.

***********************************

At the end of Avengers: Age of UltronCaptain America and Black Widow are looking out over the new Avengers team that they will be whipping into shape. I won’t say who that team consists of because I really don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen the movie yet.

The last thing that Captain America says before the film ends is “Avengers!...” and it cuts to the credits before he is able to finally let out the battle cry, “Avengers assemble!”

Director Joss Whedon was recently a guest on Empire Magazine's Spoiler Podcast, and he reveals that Cap was never going to get out the full battlecry. He explains:

"I made sure that we never shot Chris Evans saying [the 'assemble!' of 'Avengers assemble!'] I was positive that some executive was gonna go, 'You forgot to put in the last word!' I was like, 'With my dying breath...' I don’t have to say that a lot, but sometimes I’ll turn to [Marvel head honcho] Kevin [Feige] and say, 'With my dying breath...'
"As much as I was like, 'We didn’t get this, we didn’t get this, this is sloppy, and I’m not happy with that music cue...' With all my complaints, it was in the script exactly as you see it. 'He draws breath to say the next word. Blackout.' So to know that we landed exactly where I wanted to go, however many stumbles along the way, was extremely gratifying. As was Chris Evans’ reaction when I told him what we were going to do in the second movie, at the MTV movie awards, when we won for the first movie – he lost his s***. (Laughs) It was great."

I loved that he didn’t let out the full “Avengers assemble,” the fans knew what the next word was and Cap didn’t have to say it. It was just a really fun way of ending the film and teasing the future MCU films.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll hear him say it in Captain America: Civil War

AGENT CARTER Renewed for a Second Season!

For a while there I was a little nervous that ABC wasn't going to renew Marvel's Agent Carter for a second season. Thankfully the network has made the right decision to renew it for a second season!

Agent Carter is one of Marvel's best shows, and if you didn't watch the first season you really missed out on something special. I suggest you check it out if you haven't already. When talking about the possibility of Season 2, showrunner Tara Butters said that the plan is to keep it at eight episodes, but there's a possibility we might see thirteen.

It looks like next year ABC could be full of Marvel goodness, because along with Agent Carter there'll be Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 and a mystery superhero show being developed by John Ridley. There was also a S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff series that was being developed that was supposed to revolve around Mockingbird and Lance Hunter, but apparently that project has been cancelled. I'm just happy Agent Carter is coming back, it deserved another season.

Some new photos and videos have surfaced from the set of Suicide Squad, and this time they feature Task Force X seeing some action. Yesterday we posted some comments that director David Ayer made regarding this DC film that he's making saying that he's creating a family, a brotherhood, and "very real chemistry."

The villainous team that we see in these images include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn; Will Smith as Deadshot; Adam Beach as Slipknot; Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang; Cara Delevingne as Enchantress; Karen Fukuhara as Katana; Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg; Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc; Jay Hernandez as El Diablo; and Scott Eastwood, who is possibly playing Steve Trevor.

You can check out some previously released set photos here. The more I see from the set of this movie, the more excited I get about the project. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this movie turns out.

Alternate Designs for Quicksilver in Concept Art for AGE OF ULTRON

alternate-designs-for-quicksilver-in-concept-art-for-age-of-ultron

There has ben a lot of talk revolving around Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron recently. I'll get into that at the bottom of the post as I can't talk about it without spoiling some things for people who haven't seen the movie. Quicksilver was a great character, and today we have some concept art that shows us some alternate costume designs thanks to ComicBook.com

The art that you see here was created by concept artist Andy Park and Jack Dudman, who have done a lot of work for Marvel. We've posted a lot of Park's stuff in the past, and the guy is just crazy talented. What you see here are official pieces of production art that Marvel has released that show several variations of the character's look.

I personally like what they ended up using in the film, but some of these are kind of interesting and cool. The site points out:

"Artists clearly tried to add elements of the various costumes Quicksilver wore in the comics, such as the multi-shades of green he was initially clothed in for his first appearance in 1964's X-Men #4. There's even some subtle use of Quicksilver's white lightning bolt logo that he has sported throughout, except for his time with X-Factor in the 80's. Pietro is most associated with his 70's light blue or 90's navy blue costumes."

Check out the concepts below, and at the bottom I'll talk about that SPOILER:

quicksilver02a-copy-134985.jpg

SPOILERS:

So there's been a lot of talk revolving around Quicksilver and if he's actually dead or not. We've heard from both Joss Whedon and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. But what does Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige think? Redditor JonLuca posted the responses that Feige gave during a recent Q&A following a screening of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and when Quicksilver was brought up this is what JonLuca said Feige's response was:

"[Quicksilver] is DEAD. 100%, he's not coming back any time soon, there are no plans. No [life-model decoy], no escaping bullets, no retcon. [Kevin Feige] said he is dead and wanted to make sure people understood that."

So there you have it.
