The cast of Die Hard 5 has added an angel. Variety reports that Victoria's Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna has joined the cast of A Good Day to Die Hard opposite Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney. John Moore is directing this fifth installment from a script by Skip Woods

John McClane heads to Russia. He teams up with his estranged son Jack (Courtney) and father and son "team to keep each other alive and protect the world from imminent disaster."

Filming has begun for a slated release date of February 14, 2013. Anne V. will make her acting debut in this film after making a career as a model for Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated.

This casting is pure eye candy, but I am more interested in seeing McClane's brand of action. Will you be seeing this in theaters?

WB Wanted Leonardo DiCaprio To Be In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES!?

Like with all of the recent comic book movies that have come out over the last few years, The Dark Knight Rises was subject to the eternal guessing game. “Who is going to be the villain, and who will play the role?” You know you asked that question once or twice before the filming started. We heard a lot of rumors during that time leading up to the new Dark Knight film - Cher as Catwoman, Johnny Depp as The Riddler and so on. Apparently the studio liked to play this game too. Here's an interesting little tidbit of information that came from “the horses mouth” or the screenwriter of the movie, David S. Goyer, in an interview with Empire magazine:

At the premiere for The Dark Knight in 2008 he says the studio already had their mind made up. They said, “it’s gonna be The Riddler, and we want it to be Leonardo DiCaprio…”

Whether that statement was true, or it was Goyer’s way of pulling a fast one, we may never know. However, it does bring up a whole new scenario game. What if Leo was cast in this film? I know that it is kind of a pointless game, but it is one that I like to play. Let us know what you think!

The epic video game convention E3 is next week, which means we're going to start seeing a lot of video game action! Most of our coverage will be on GameTyrant.co, but we'll also be posting a few of the bigger video game news items here as well.

Today we bring you a fantastic new trailer for Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' new Tomb Raider game. The trailer is called "Crossroads," and it gives us a look at how intense and gritty this Lara Croft adventure is going to be. It definetly looks like the craziest chapter in the series so far.

The game looks great, and it explores the badass origin story of Lara Croft "and her ascent from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor. Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold."

I've always been a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, and I'm excited about getting some hands-on action with this newest game. The game is scheduled to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on March 5th, 2013. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!

Check out this incredibly badass debut trailer for Warner Brothers' Guardians of Middle Earth! The game is being developed by Monolith Productions, and is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA). The game looks like it will be a lot of fun, I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy battling it out in Middle Earth.

The game brings up to 10 players together in five-versus-five competitive multiplayer battle arenas and offers more than 20 iconic guardians, which includes Gandalf, Sauron, Gollum, Thrain and several more, for gamers to control in PVP matches. Players will be able to connect with other players via an in-game voice communication system, as well as access to a comprehensive online stat and leader board system where they can track friends' victories and defeats, and more.

Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President of Production and Development at WBIE had this to say in a statement,

The MOBA genre is wildly popular with PC players and we are excited to bring it to consoles through the lore of Middle-earth. The heroes and villains of Middle-earth are crafted in a way that perfectly intersects with MOBA game features, allowing the development team to create guardians with deep skills and abilities for gamers to master.

It's set to debut in fall 2012 exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

George Lucas Names His Successor!

George Lucas is really inching his way toward retirement, and today he proves it. Lucas has named mega producer Kathleen Kennedy as co-chair of LucasFilm. Kennedy will oversee the company’s current slate of projects and continue to expand it through their development deals with DreamWorks and CBS TV Studios. Lucas will become co-chair of the company’s board and stay on as CEO.

Kennedy is a great choice to take on this job. She's worked on a ton of great films over the years, and her resume proves that she's got what it takes to help take LucasFilm to the next level. Who knows, maybe we'll actually start seeing more movies being created by them, which would be awesome!

Here's a statment from Lucas:

I’ve spent my life building Lucasfilm and as I shift my focus into other directions I wanted to make sure it was in the hands of someone equipped to carry my vision into the future. It was important that my successor not only be someone with great creative passion and proven leadership abilities, but also someone who loves movies. I care deeply about my employees—it is their creativity and hard work that has made this company what it is today. As the company grows and expands I wanted to be sure the employees of Lucasfilm have a strong captain for the ship. I also care deeply about our fans and it was important to have someone who would carry on the passion and care that I’ve given the films over the years. So for me Kathy was the obvious choice, she is a trusted friend and one of the most respected producers and executives in the industry.

Steven Spielberg, who has worked with Kennedy through most his career, added:

George’s prescience is once again proven by his choice of my long time producing partner, Kathy Kennedy to co-chair Lucasfilm. Kathy has been a member of both of our families going into a fourth decade so it does not feel like she is going to another galaxy far far away. She will get just as much support from me with Lucasfilm as George has given both of us all these years.

Kennedy then made the following statment about Lucas and her new job:

George is a true visionary. I’ve seen him build Lucasfilm from a small rebel unit in Northern California to an international fully integrated entertainment company. I’m excited to have the chance to work with such an extraordinary group of talented people. George and I have talked about the enormous opportunities that lie ahead for the company, and as George moves towards retirement I am honored that he trusts me with taking care of the beloved film franchises. I feel fortunate to have George working with me for the next year or two as I take on this role—it is nice to have Yoda by your side.

What do you think of Kennedy jumping on board LucasFilm in such a high profile position?

Here's the full Press Release:

SAN FRANCISCO-Lucasfilm Ltd. today announced that Kathleen Kennedy will become Co-Chair of Lucasfilm. In an effort to move forward with his retirement plans, George Lucas will work with Kathleen Kennedy to transition into her new role. Lucas will become Co-Chairman of the Board of Lucasfilm and continue as CEO. Micheline Chau will remain as President and COO of Lucasfilm, and continue to focus on the day-to-day operations of the business.

“I’ve spent my life building Lucasfilm and as I shift my focus into other directions I wanted to make sure it was in the hands of someone equipped to carry my vision into the future,” said George Lucas. “It was important that my successor not only be someone with great creative passion and proven leadership abilities, but also someone who loves movies. I care deeply about my employees—it is their creativity and hard work that has made this company what it is today. As the company grows and expands I wanted to be sure the employees of Lucasfilm have a strong captain for the ship. Seven-time Academy Award nominated Kathleen Kennedy is one of the most successful and esteemed producers and executives in the film industry. As a producer she has an impeccable record with a robust filmography working with such filmmakers as Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Martin Scorsese, Robert Zemeckis, Barry Levinson, Clint Eastwood, David Fincher and Gary Ross. As a testament to her standing in the film community, she previously held the position of governor and officer of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and currently serves as a member of the board of trustees. She is also a former President of the Producers Guild of America.

Kathleen will step down from her role at The Kennedy/Marshall Company, shifting her responsibilities to partner Frank Marshall. The Kennedy/Marshall Company is currently in post production on LINCOLN, directed by long time collaborator Steven Spielberg whom Kennedy also produced for on the INDIANA JONES and JURASSIC PARK franchises, and THE BOURNE LEGACY, written and directed by Tony Gilroy and produced by Marshall. Under the Kennedy/Marshall banner, the pair has produced such Academy Award nominated Best Picture films as WAR HORSE (six nominations), THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON (thirteen nominations) THE SIXTH SENSE, (six nominations) and SEABISCUIT (seven nominations), as well as blockbusters including the BOURNE series and THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN. Marshall will oversee the company’s current slate of projects and continue to expand it via their development deals with DreamWorks and CBS TV Studios.

TREASURE ISLAND To Be Directed By Guy Ritchie!

Breaking news from the WB! Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, Snatch) has been hired to direct their version of Treasure Island. They have attached writer Alex Harakis to take care of the script. Not much is known about Harakis, but with Ritchie at the helm I am not too worried about it. Here is the announcement that broke at Deadline:

Warner Bros has attached Guy Ritchie to direct a new version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s pirate tale Treasure Island, and has set Alex Harakis to write the script. Ritchie will produce the film with his partner Lionel Wigram and Langley Park’s Kevin McCormick. It was Wigram who originally set up a stylized version of the classic novel, much the way he did Sherlock Holmes, which Ritchie directed. He set it up before he and Ritchie became partners. Their first move after partnering was to take on The Man From U.N.C.L.E., after Steven Soderbergh dropped out of the film.

This whole announcement makes me happy. What Ritchie did for Sherlock Holmes was amazing. I am truly excited to see what he does with one of the greatest books of all time. If you haven’t read Treasure Island, read it! Go ahead, I'll wait.... For those of you have read the book, let us know what you think about Ritchie taking on this challenge. Until next time…

JOHN CARTER - Watch the Original Opening Sequence

$

I thought John Carter was a great movie, unfortunately it didn't do very well at the box office due to several marketing brain farts. It could have done a lot better than it did.

Disney has released the original opening sequence for the film, which ended up being one of the biggest reshoots that Andrew Stanton did. This original opening features  Lynn Collins as Princess Dejah Thoris giving a lecture about the state of the Barsoomian wars, but apparently the Pixar Brain Trust was “confused by the film’s beginning... and they found her arch and stony.” You can read more about that interesting conversation here. Personally, I like this opening sequence better than the one that was used in the film. I think it does a better job of establishing these characters, and Collin's character comes off being a little stronger. She comes off unconfident in the scenes that were reshot and put in the movie.

Check out the original opening below, and let us know if you like it better than the opening we got. I also just want to point out that the special effects are not completed in the clip so there's a lot of green screen action.

Damon Lindelof Wants To Take On IRON FIST!

$

CBM recently did an interview with the man with the golden touch Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus). In the interview Lindelof, a well known comic book fan, was asked what character he would like to bring to the big screen and this was his answer...

One character I've always loved is Iron Fist, and Matt Fractions incredible run with him a couple of years back. I always thought that would make a really cool movie. But I am hard pushed to think of me doing anything better than The Avengers which I just thought was phenomenal.

When asked about previous attempts to get this character off the ground, and why they failed, Lindelof responded with this:

Yeah well I mean I think it's because he's even more fringy than Iron Man was, and also because he's called IRON Fist they may be worried about some confusion with the Iron Man franchise, even though obviously they are very different characters. But I have to imagine that with the success of The Avengers, they are planning to give Black Widow and Hawkeye their own spin-offs, and there are many more characters on the fringe of the Marvel universe that I feel are equally worthy, like Iron Fist.

I think that this is an awesome idea. Iron Fist is a very cool and distinguishable character. I think Lindelof has the chops and the proper geek mentality to bring us an origin story that people would respond really well to.

Back in 2003 there were rumors circulating around that Ray Park was in talks to play the role of Danny Rand/Iron Fist. Obviously, that fell through. Who do you think would make a good Iron Fist? Do you think it should be a standalone movie or do you think they should make a Heroes For Hire movie that also stars Luke Cage? Let us know what you think.

The people at Amazon sure do know how to get a fanboy’s blood pumping. Today they put up on their site a not yet available, drool inducing, blow your mind teaser of what might be available when The Avengers DVD/Blu-Ray is released later this year.

Amazon has a way of doing this to those of us who love movies. In fact on the same page that I found this lovely attraction, in the “you might like this too” section, an advertisement to buy the Men in Black 3 Blu-ray combo. My only guess for this is that they like to keep us glued to the computer awaiting the awesome things they have in store for us.

Below we have a description of what you will get and picture of what could possibly be the case for the combo-pack. If you remember, that is the brief case that Nick Fury held the Tesseract in with a cool looking S.H.E.I.L.D. cover over it. I personally can’t wait if this is the real thing. I do not own any of these movies on blu-ray, so this seems a perfect way to purchase them.

Check it out and let us know what you think. It will cost you $153.30

New Trailer for HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET with Jennifer Lawrence

$

A new trailer has been released for Jennifer Lawrence's horror thriller House at the End of the Street. The film was directed by Mark Tonderai, and also stars also Elisabeth Shue, Max Thieriot, and Gil Bellows. This looks like it's going to be one of those horror films where everyone makes a bunch of stupid ass decisions that ends up getting them killed. I still have yet to see anything from this movie that impresses me.

Here's the Synopsis:

Seeking a fresh start, newly divorced Sarah (Oscar(R)-nominee Elisabeth Shue; Leaving Las Vegas, Piranha 3D) and her daughter Elissa (Oscar(R)-nominee Jennifer Lawrence; X-Men: First Class, Winter's Bone) find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret. Years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter killed her parents in their beds, and disappeared - leaving only a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot, My Soul to Take), as the sole survivor. Against Sarah's wishes, Elissa begins a relationship with the reclusive Ryan - and the closer they get, the deeper they're all pulled into a mystery more dangerous than they ever imagined.

The movie comes out on September 21st, 2012. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think!

Joel Kinnaman Discusses ROBOCOP

$

It's not easy for me to get excited about a remake, but the Robocop reboot over at MGM really seems to be coming together nicely. It's being directed by Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) and The Killing's Joel Kinnaman is taking on the lead role. It was also recently announced that Gary Oldman was cast in the film as well.

Collider recently did an interview with Kinnaman, and when he was asked about how he felt about RoboCop and his feelings on remakes here's what he said,

I used to be like “Why are we doing a remake? What are remakes being done for?”  But then, we do that all the time in the theater.  If we weren’t doing remakes, nobody would know who Shakespeare was.  I’m not saying that Robocop is Shakespeare, but it’s a way to … we’re retelling.  That’s what we do as human beings.  We retell our favorite stories.  That’s what we’ve done since we were sitting around campfires.  It’s a part of the human spirit.  It doesn’t have to be negative to creativity.  It can be completely opposite.  That’s how you can break new ground by rethinking something that’s already been done.  José has a completely different take on this than Verhoeven had, and with all respect, everybody that’s involved in this movie loved the original and we have a lot of respect for it.  We’re going to have a lot of throwbacks and there’s going to be a lot of fun stuff for the fans of the first movie.  It’s a new story within the old one.

He then went on to talk about his excitement about working with Gary Oldman,

That feels about as surreal as me being RoboCop.  I couldn’t be happier.  He’s pretty much the grand master of the game.  I still think it made everybody that voted for the Oscars look bad that they didn’t vote for Gary Oldman, because what he did is so difficult in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.  It’s a completely different kind of thing.  I mean, I loved The Artist. I thought it was fantastic.  I saw it early before the whole hype of it and I thought that French actor (Jean Dujardin) did a great job, but he’s more like that guy.  I’ve seen him in interviews and he is a bit animated like that character.  But, Gary Oldman disappears into his character.  It’s so subtle.  It’s so difficult what he does, and it’s something that I don’t think maybe two or three other actors could do on their best day in the world right now.  It was a master’s performance and he’s on top of his game right now.  He’s in his golden age.  So, I’m very, very excited and we have great scenes that have a lot of the substance that I was talking about.  It’s very much a relationship between Gary Oldman’s character and Alex Murphy.

Make sure to read the rest of the interview over on Collider. The movie is set for release on August 9, 2013. Is this RoboCop reboot growing on you? Are you excited?

FRAGGLE ROCK Movie Finally Gets Writers!

There have been talks, for quite a while, about a Fraggle Rock movie. Now it looks like they are going to get the ball rolling on this project.

THR just announced that Jim Byrkit(co-writer of Rango) and Alex Manugian have been hired to write the script for the movie version of the much loved Jim Hensen TV show. For those of you that were not able to watch the original show, here is a little synopsis of what you are missing:

Initially a Canadian series that became a hit internationally (in the U.S. it played on HBO), Rock told the adventures of a group of cave-dwelling puppet creatures called Fraggles. In their lives are a race of small industrious creatures named Doozers, who live in the caves, and the Gorgs, furry giants who look at Fraggles as nuisances.

I am a huge fan of this franchise and I can’t wait to take my kids to see this movie. I am crossing my fingers that this project is done well. No matter what, seeing the characters will draw up awesome nostalgic feelings for me. I just hope that the fun characters and stories translate to today’s youth. Until next time, let us know what you think.
