Incredible Cosplay Featured in Emerald City Comic Con Music Videos

0

Beat Down Boogie has released two music videos featuring some spectacular cosplay from Emerald City Comic Con. I’ve never been to this geek event, but it looks like a lot of fun. Maybe someday I’ll make it out there. In the meantime, here's some cosplay we can enjoy.

Beat Down Boogie recently travelled to Seattle to create their Emerald City Comic Con cosplay videos. Highlights include: a massive Hunter from Halo, a big Reinhardt from Overwatch, Chappie cosplay, a genderbent Zangief, a life size "bug" from Starship troopers, Saga cosplay, Interstellar TARS cosplay and much more. Enjoy!

17 More ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Episodes in Development

It looks like producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard aren’t done with Arrested Development yet. In fact, according to Grazer, there are 17 new episodes in development! In a recent interview with Bill Simmons on the B.S. Report podcast Gazer said,

"I love Arrested Development, but it was never a huge thing. But people are loyal to it. We're going to do another 17 episodes, so stay tuned for Arrested Development."

That’s pretty radical. He didn’t offer up any other details on the series, and there’s no word on if Netflix will be involved again, but I imagine that will be the case. Netflix brought back the series for a fourth season in 2013 after it had been off the air for seven years. It consisted of 15 episodes, and creator Mitchell Hurwitz said that it was just the start of something more. He told KCRW,

"[It] was always designed to be the first act of this movie, three-act structure — or trilogy, when I was trying to make it as a movie trilogy. Without question, I love these characters and I love these people, and it would be just a privilege to do more of them or to make a movie, but we're not there yet."

I think I enjoyed the fourth season more than a lot of other people did, so I’m looking forward to more Arrested Development hilarity. I assume everyone involved with the series will be back to reprise their roles, but we'll just have to wait and see how things unfold.

THE LAST OF US Video Game Opening Reimagined in 8-Bit

the-last-of-us-video-game-opening-reimagined-in-8-bit

The powerful opening scene from the hit video game The Last of Us has been recreated to look like an 80s style 8-bit video game. It actually looks more like 16-bit, but I get what they're trying to do. In the end, the scene isn't as effective as Naughty Dog’s version. The sound effects and lack of speech kill the mood. It's still a fun watch, though.

The video comes from John Meehan, who used repainted backgrounds from Double Dragon and the end scenes from Street Fighter 2 to bring the the scene to life.

You have all probably been asking yourself: what would The Last of Us look like as an 8-bit arcade game from the mid-80's? Well, here's my answer to that important question!

See the pixelated end result below. I also included the original opening scene.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S Video Game will be a Feature Film

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the popular video game series Five Nights at Freddy’s, and they will adapt it for the big screen. I was actually introduced to this game for the first time by my kids, and I wasn’t expecting what I saw. I thought it was going to be some kind of silly kids game, but nope. This nightmarish game is actually pretty great.

The game was created by Scott Cawthon, and it takes place in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, which is a darker, more disturbing version of Chuck-E-Cheese. During the day the animatronic animal band performs kiddy songs, but when night rolls around they go on murderous rampages. The goal of the game is to survive a night locked inside, and at any moment a furry death machine could jump out of the dark.

Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows) is a producer on the film, and said in a statement,

“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie.”

The creator of the game added:

"The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to.”

My kids love getting scared when they play this game. They reminded me a lot like myself when I was a kid. I was always chasing down fear for an adrenalin rush. This is going to make for a really great horror film, and I hope they bring on some talented filmmakers to make sure that happens. There’s no writer or director attached, but producers are currently trying to find someone to bring it to life.

This seems like the perfect kind of project for director Joe Dante to take on. He was always good at making these kinds of films. He has worked on movies such as The Howling, Gremlins, Explorers, The Burbs, Twilight Zone: The Movie and more.

If you haven't played the game you should check it out! Here's a trailer:

Compelling Trailer for STAR TREK: RENEGADES Fan Film

Star Trek: Renegades is a fan film production that has been in development since 2012. Today we have a trailer for you to watch, and it actually looks like it's going to be a great film. I was really impressed with what I saw. I wasn't expecting such cool visuals, and more importantly, the story is intriguing. There are also some surprising familiar faces from previous Star Trek series. Here's a synopsis:

It is ten years after Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, and the Federation is in a crisis. The Federation’s main suppliers of dilithium crystals are disappearing. Space and time have folded around several planets, effectively isolating them from any contact with outside worlds. And this phenomenon is not natural – someone or something is causing this to happen. This necessitates drastic measures; some of which are outside the Federation’s normal jurisdiction. For this, Admiral Pavel Chekov, head of Starfleet Intelligence, turns to Commander Tuvok, Voyager’s former security officer and current head of the newly reorganized Section 31. Tuvok must put together a new covert, renegade crew – mostly outcasts and rogues – even criminals. This new crew is tasked with finding out what is causing the folding of time and space, and stopping it – at all costs. But will they be able to put aside their differences and stop trying to kill one another in time to accomplish their mission?

I'm looking forward to eventually seeing the full film when it's complete in the summer of 2015. After you watch the trailer, let us know what you think about what was presented.

NEED FOR SPEED Sequel is Now in Development

The 2014 feature film adaptation of the hit video game Need For Speed is getting a sequel. The first film starred Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), and it was actually an incredibly entertaining movie. It was ridiculously over-the-top, but that's why I enjoyed it so much!

The sequel is currently in development, and it's all thanks to a joint venture between China Movie Channel, Jiaflix, and 1905.com, who have teamed with Electronic Arts. These are the Chinese production companies who were also involved with Transformers: Age of Extinction. According to THR, most of the movie will be shot in China, and it will also feature a significant amount of local talent.

The first film was released by Disney's Touchstone Pictures, but it doesn't look like they will be involved this time around. The film was directed by Scott Waugh, and Paul played a character named Tobey Marshall, who sets off to race cross-country as a way of avenging his friend's death at the hands of a rival racer. There's no word on whether either of them will be involved with the sequel.

Cao Yin, chairman of China Movie Channel, said in a statement,

"This venture is another great endeavor to bridge the cultures between China and the West through films. We look forward to cooperating with excellent films and filmmakers to thrill and entertain movie lovers internationally with more outstanding films with Chinese labels."

The creative team who will bring the film to life will be announced in the near future, and production is expected to begin later this year. Hopefully it turns out to be just as fun as the first movie.

Animated GAME OF THRONES Series Follows The Misadventures of Jon Snow

I've got a funny set of Game of Thrones inspired animated videos for you to watch from a series called Snow Knows. It follows the amusing misadventures of Jon Snow, who is played by Kit Harington in the HBO series. The videos were created by the team of Hinge Digital, and they prove that Ygritte's opinion of Snow is correct when she says, “You know nothing, Jon Snow”.

GHOSTBUSTERS' Ernie Hudson Up for Role in Marvel's BLACK PANTHER

Marvel's Black Panther isn't coming out until 2018, but it looks like they are looking to start rounding out some of the other cast members. According to Latino Review's El Mayimbe, Ghostbusters' Ernie Hudson might be one of the actors to join the film.

Apparently he is "circling the role of King T'Chaka ruler of Wakanda & father of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa aka The Black Panther."

This would be a pretty big role in the Marvel cinematic universe. On top of holding the title of Chieftain of Wakanda in the comics, he was the protector of the sacred metal known as Vibranium and an ally of Captain America. He also had superhuman strength, speed, and agility thanks to a special herb he had access to.

Someone might have to be cast in the role of T'Chaka soon, especially with Black Panther making an appearance in Captain America: Civil War. There's always a chance that Marvel is planning a T'Chaka cameo appearance in the film. That's just me speculating, though.

This news is just a rumor at the moment, and there has been no official casting yet. Of course, we'll keep you updated.

Samurai Wolverine and Luke Cage Art by Dan Panosian

Artist Dan Panosian created this amazing art of Wolverine and Luke Cage as samurai warriors. I think it's so cool when artists transform our favorite characters into samurai. I just love the armor clothing and style of the ancient Japanese warriors. I'd dress like that all the time if I could! Anyway, I hope you like the art.

SHE'S ALL THAT Remake in the Works

0
0

The teen-centric romance subgenre that was so popular in the '90s has mostly morphed into adaptations of post-apocalyptic young adult novels, but The Weinstein Company and Miramax are reportedly teaming to remake one of the seminal rom-coms from that era. TheWrap reports that the two companies are developing a remake She's All That, the 1999 film that starred Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachel Leigh Cook, Paul Walker, and Matthew Lillard.

For those who haven't seen the original movie, it was basically a riff on Pygmalion and My Fair Lady which saw a popular jock make a bet that he could turn a shy art student into the prom queen. It was the epitome of that cliche in which the guy removes the nerdy girl's glasses and suddenly discovers she's beautiful; despite the film's ridiculous cheesiness, it still seems to have gained cult status against people of a certain age.

I'm not quite sure that a remake in 2015 (or 2016 or '17, whenever it actually comes out) would work, though. Those cliches have been parodied to death at this point — Not Another Teen Movie put this film squarely in its crosshairs — and it would almost feel like going back and making a cabin in the woods-type horror movie after The Cabin in the Woods brilliantly deconstructed all of that subgenre's tropes. But I suppose there will always be young audiences to cash in on, and maybe director Kenny Leon will find a new take on it that will make it worth while.

Alan Tudyk Will Bring FIREFLY Cast into His New Series CON MAN

alan-tudyk-will-bring-firefly-cast-into-his-new-series-con-man

For those of you looking for a Firefly reunion, it looks like its going to happen in Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion's new comedy series Con Man. The series was funded by fans, and has so far brought in over $2.8 million which will get us 12 episodes in the first season.

The series follows two characters named Wray Nerely and Jack Moore, who are played by Tudyk and Fillion. They were actors on a popular sci-fi series called Spectrum that was cancelled too soon, but later gained a cult following. The series follows them as they make the geek convention rounds.

During a Reddit AMA with Tudyk, he revealed that he is bringing the Firefly gang back together for the series in some capacity. Here's what he said:

"Everybody has committed to being in Con Man. I don't want to waste their cameos. So, I'm hoping for a second season to put them all in. Right now, it's just Sean and Gina in the first season. Possibly more. The others will be Where's Waldo? type cameos."

How cool is that! Tudyk and Fillion are set to be the main characters in Con Man, and Gina Torres and Sean Maher have already signed on for roles, so you can expect to see them in the first season for sure. It seems like the others will be around in some background form, but will not have lead roles. Those others include Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, and Ron Glass. Their parts could be expanded if we see a second season. That's what Tudyk seems to be hoping for.

Other actors who have signed onto the series include Battlestar Galactica alums Tricia Helfer and Michael Trucco and The Walking Dead’s Emily Kinney.

Con Man is the perfect place for a Firefly reunion to happen, and I hope that Tudyk gets to do everything he wants with the series. You can watch the first teaser clip for the series here. Here's the full breakdown of the show:

Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk-Me!) was a co-star on Spectrum, a sci-fi series which was canceled -Too Soon- yet became a cult classic. Wray’s good friend, Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) starred in the series and has gone on to become a major movie star. While Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister, Wray tours the sci-fi circuit as a guest of conventions, comic book stores, and lots of pop culture events.  The show will feature all the weird and crazy things that happen to Wray along the way to these events.
The series is a light-hearted take on the personalities, luminaries, and characters in the sci-fi community we are privileged to call ourselves members. Con Man is a way to share some of the surreal occurrences we have had, while telling the story of a guy learning to love and embrace his fans.
I wanted to make a show that featured all of my favorite convention artists and friends together. Not only that, I wanted to celebrate the world where heroes, villains, zombie hunters, and space pirates all overlap. I especially wanted to work with my friend Nathan Fillion again.

KEY & PEELE's Lost Sketch is a Riff on TMNT II: THE SECRET OF THE OOZE

Comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have created one of the best sketch comedy shows of all time with Key & Peele. Even though I thought the most recent season of their Comedy Central series didn't quite live up to the brilliance of the earlier seasons, it was still wildly entertaining to watch these guys disappear into a multitude of different characters and scenarios each week.

They're often able to pull off just about anything they can think of in terms of sketch ideas, but there was one specific scene they couldn't do because it was just too big. But lucky for us, the guys spoke with EW and detailed exactly what that sketch would be, and the EW team ended up providing some animation that visualizes things for us. It's a hilarious riff on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, but I'll warn you now: prepare to have the theme song stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

Sensational Trailer For DEUS EX: MANKIND DIVIDED

I've never played a Deus Ex game, but holy cow — this new trailer makes me want to drop everything and catch up so I can know the full history of the series when Deus Ex: Mankind Divided arrives. There's no release date scheduled yet, but when it does hit stores, it'll be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

A Deus Ex movie has been in the works for a while now with Scott Derrickson at the helm, but now that he's directing Doctor Strange for Marvel, I'm wondering if this will fall to someone else or if they'll just wait for him to finish with that project before he jumps behind the camera on this one. If he sticks with it, this trailer has convinced me that Ethan Hawke looks like a strong choice to play Adam Jensen, and it'd make sense since they worked together on Sinister. What do you think?

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided directly follows the aftermath of the Aug Incident, a day when mechanically augmented citizens all over the world were stripped of control over their minds and bodies, resulting in the deaths of millions of innocents. The year is now 2029, and the golden era of augmentations is over. Mechanically augmented humans have been deemed outcasts and segregated from the rest of society. Crime and acts of terror serve as a thin veil to cover up an overarching conspiracy aimed at controlling the future of mankind…

STAR WARS Back Tattoo Depicts Characters in Feudal Japanese Style

When George Lucas first created Star Wars, one of his primary influences was Akira Kurosawa's 1958 film The Hidden Fortress, which shares some thematic similarities with his 1977 sci-fi classic. But it looks like tattoo artist Eddie Stacey of Ink & Dagger Tattoo in Georgia took that idea even farther, giving this man a full back tattoo that reimagines Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and R2-D2 in feudal Japan. And is that the Sarlaac pit on his left elbow?

The Sundance Hit ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL Gets a Great Trailer

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl was my number one favorite film that came out of the Sundance Film Festival this year, and I'm happy to share with you this wonderful first trailer for it. As I said in my review for the film, it's a quirky, heartwarming coming-of-age comedy that takes the audience on a funny yet emotional ride. This is a movie that you all have to see when it's released, because it's just such a great piece of filmmaking and storytelling.

The movie was directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, and this is the synopsis:

ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is the uniquely funny, moving story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a high school senior who is trying to blend in anonymously, avoiding deeper relationships as a survival strategy for navigating the social minefield that is teenage life.  He even describes his constant companion Earl (RJ Cyler), with whom he makes short film parodies of classic movies, as more of a ‘co-worker’ than a best friend. But when Greg’s mom (Connie Britton) insists he spend time with Rachel (Olivia Cooke) – a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer – he slowly discovers how worthwhile the true bonds of friendship can be.

The movie also stars Nick Offerman (who was great as Greg's father), Molly Shannon (who played Rachel's mother), and Jon Bernthal (as a history teacher).  It will be released in theaters this summer on June 12th, and it's a movie that you seriously can't miss. Thanks to Fox Searchlight for the trailer.

Sci-Fi Comedy UFO Abduction Short — U.F.OH YEAH

Film Riot has released a great sci-fi comedy short film called U.F.Oh Yeah. The story follows a U.F.O. conspiracy theorist who has always wanted to make contact with extraterrestrials. The day finally arrives, but things don't play out the way he had hoped. The movie was written, directed, and edited by Ryan Connolly. It's a entertaining watch with some simple yet funny comedy elements that I think you'll all get a kick out of.

Disturbing Plot Summary for HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3 Revealed

disturbing-plot-summary-for-human-centipede-3-revealed

The Human Centipede Part 3 (Final Sequence) is going to take the horror franchise to disgusting new heights. I watched the first two films because my curiosity got the better of me, and the things shown in those movie cannot be unseen. They are completely jacked up films in every way, and now a third one is on the way, which will involve a 500-person chain of insanity.

EW has revealed that the movie will be released on VOD and in theaters on May 22nd. They also released this synopsis for the Tom Six-directed film that gives us an idea of how the story is going to play out.

Bully prison warden Bill Boss (Dieter Laser), leading a big state prison in the US of A, has a lot of problems; his prison statistically has the highest amount of prison riots, medical costs and staff turnover in the country. But foremost he is unable to get the respect he thinks he deserves from his inmates and the state Governor (Eric Roberts). He constantly fails in experimenting with different ideas for the ideal punishment to get the inmates in line, which drives him, together with the sizzling heat, completely insane. Under threats of termination by the Governor, his loyal right hand man Dwight (Laurence R Harvey) comes up with a brilliant idea. A revolutionary idea which could change the American prison system for good and save billions of dollars. An idea based on the notorious Human Centipede movies, that will literally and figuratively get the inmates on their knees, creating the ultimate punishment and deterrent for anyone considering a life of crime. Having nothing to lose, Bill and Dwight create a jaw-dropping 500-person prison centipede.

Just for comparison sake, the first film featured a 3-person chain, the second film had 12. That's nothing compared to the craziness of 500 though! Using it as a way to keep prisoners in line is pretty crazy as well. Bill and Dwight basically justified a way to live out their twisted human centipede fantasies, and do it legally.

The director promises that the movie will be “100 percent politically incorrect.”

This "Mario Berracus Vs. Piranha Plant" illustration was created by artist Felipe González. It's a energetic and gritty adaptation of Super Mario Bros., and as you can see he played around with several different design elements such as texture and lighting. As you can see, the piece turned out to be pretty badass.

GREMLINS Remake Back in Development With New Writer

0
0

When word came out that the long-in-the-works Gremlins remake was being put on hold a couple of months ago, I ended my write-up by cautioning readers not to be surprised if the project gained traction again in a year or two. Well, it looks like it didn't take that long after all, because now Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has hired Goosebumps and Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth to pen a new script for the film.

Christopher Columbus, who wrote the 1984 original, was being eyed as the director for a long time, but apparently he's shifted over into a producer capacity for this one alongside Steven Spielberg, who executive produced the original. No director has been set yet. How about going after Joe Dante and see if he'd be down for having another go at this material? It'd be an intriguing decision, and something that fans might be interested in seeing; otherwise, they might be put off by the idea of a remake of this cult classic. We'll keep you updated with more developments as they happen, but for now, it looks like despite the fan outcry, a Gremlins remake is back on track.
