Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Talks to Star in FORCE MAJEURE Remake

$

Many people pegged the Swedish film Force Majeure to win the Best Foreign Language Film at this year's Academy Awards ceremony, so when it wasn't even nominated, it came as quite a shock. (It's the same situation that happened in regards to The LEGO Movie.) When films win Oscars, they always see a bump in popularity from people who don't always follow the industry but are curious to check out the best films of the year. And even though Ruben Ostlund's movie didn't take home any awards from the Oscars, it looks like it could still experience that bump in popularity: THR reports that the film is being prepped for a remake, with Seinfeld, Veep, and Enough Said star Julia Louis-Dreyfus set to produce and star.

Majeure is the award-winning Swedish drama that tells of a family staying in a resort in the French Alps. An avalanche threatens the resort and the father, in an act of selfish cowardice, deserts his family. When the avalanche passes and the family is safely reunited, the man’s actions create a deep fissure in the unit that might not be repaired.

The original movie just arrived on Netflix Instant, so I'm definitely going to check that one out before seeing this new version. But for those of you who have already seen it, are you interested in seeing a remake so soon if it has someone hilarious like Louis-Dreyfus on board?

Read Max Landis' Pitch For GHOSTBUSTERS 3

Before all of the hype surrounding the Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe, there was a brief minute in which Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis was rumored to be involved with a more traditional Ghostbusters 3 that would have been a direct sequel to the original two films (the new movies will be their own thing, not continuations of the older ones). He quickly denied it on his Twitter account, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't intrigued by the idea. He was so taken with it, in fact, that he ended up developing an entire pitch for the movie — not with the intention of it ever getting made, but as more of a writing exercise. Much like he did with his Super Mario Bros. script, he's released the entire thing online for fans to read, and it's a doozy. Read it all here, but he offers a brief explanation:

“Seeing as it appears the new Ghostbusters franchise will be moving away from the previous films, and be a complete reboot, I thought it would be fun to release an idea I’d been kicking around for a third movie, turning the first two into a trilogy. Following my own beliefs about trilogies, it is a completion of the cycle and themes started in the first film, updated for modern film standards. As such, it features a heightening of the first film’s threat, as well as multiple action sequences, and deeper emotional through-lines for the characters. I never pitched this. It is essentially just fan fiction. Please judge it accordingly; I released it to an overwhelming amount of requests, and also just because I like sharing this stuff.”

He also released a few tweets with his fan casting of the project, and now it makes me kind of want to see what everyone would have done with this! What do you think?

Textless Photo of Aquaman From BATMAN V SUPERMAN

About a month ago, we got our first look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The one uncool thing is that it had the gigantic words "Unite The Seven" sprawled across it. This led to a lot of fans working tirelessly to remove the text to varying degrees of success. Recently, EW was able to get their hands on a textless image of Aquaman. While it's not the most hi-res image, it is very sharp. Let's hope a textless hi-res version makes it online for all those fan made posters.

GONE GIRL Writer Teams With 12 YEARS A SLAVE Director For Heist Film WIDOWS

Gillian Flynn got my attention in a big way when she wrote the screenplay for David Fincher's Gone Girl as an adaptation of her own best-selling novel. She has adaptations of Utopia and Dark Places coming up, but it's her brand new project that I'm most excited about. THR says that Flynn is teaming up with 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen for a female-led heist thriller called Widows, and this story sounds like an awesome B-movie blast.

The movie is based on a British miniseries, which has a pretty stellar synopsis:

Dolly Rawlins, Linda Perelli and Shirley Miller have one thing in common - their husbands are all members of the same gang. After a terrible accident when their husbands are killed attempting to hold up a security van, for each of the women it is time to stop, take stock and start life afresh. When Dolly finds the plans for the robbery and with the women facing life alone, suppose they were to finish what their husbands started and carry out the robbery themselves?

How sweet is that? A group of badass women teaming up to do what their husbands couldn't? I dig it. And this movie will actually feature a fourth woman to go along with the other three. Flynn is apparently co-writing, though the outlet fails to mention with whom she'll be writing. No word yet on who might be starring, either, but feel free to go wild with suggestions in the comments. McQueen loves working with Michael Fassbender, so I can see him being one of the idiot robbers who gets killed early. What about Lupita Nyong'o as one of the widows? That'd be a cool change of pace from the massive budget of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Wrestlemania 31 Art Spotlight

Well, it's that time of year again, when all of the past year's storylines come to a head at WrestleMania. Up until last week, the big attraction was Sting's match against Triple H, but with Brock Lesnar's recent resignation, the main event vs. Roman Reigns finally gained some steam, something it hasn't had since it was first announced. There are some strong matches on this year's card, including Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton, and the aforementioned Sting vs. Triple H and Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns. Throw in a Rusev vs. Cena and a Ladder Match, and you've got the makings of a great show, so hopefully it doesn't disappoint. That said, I thought it would be a good time to spotlight some fantastic WWE inspired art, and if any of it strikes your fancy, make sure to let the creators know.

If you're watching WrestleMania 31 (Pre Show starts at 4pm CST tonight), make sure to leave your impressions and opinions of the show in the comments.

Here is the full card:

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns
Triple H vs. Sting
Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt
John Cena vs. Rusev
Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton
Intercontinental title ladder match
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
AJ Lee & Paige vs. Bella Twins
Fatal Four Way tag team title match

Live-Action Trailer For MORTAL KOMBAT X

Last time I wrote about Mortal Kombat X, I mentioned how I thought the games might actually be getting a little too violent; with the constant improvements to technology, this series is far more visceral than it ever was back in the old arcade days. But hey — to each his/her own, and I'm totally aware that our tastes in video games might not line up. That's fine! For those who are actually looking forward to the game, I'm sure you've been digging the news that Jason VoorheesThe Predator, and undead versions of Liu Kang & Kung Lao will be playable characters, and now there's a live-action trailer to help get you even more pumped up for the game's release on April 14th.

Newest SPECTRE Images Show Bond in Mexico City

The teaser trailer for the 24th James Bond film Spectre was released just a couple days ago. Today, we've got seven new photos, four of which are in Mexico City (via Collider). Daniel Craig returns as Bond, James Bond. The film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, David Bautista, and Andrew Scott.

There is very little to analyze here other than it looks like Bond is in Mexico City during the three day event know as the Day of the Dead (of which I know very little about). We do see in the recent trailer that something was uncovered in the ruins of Skyfall manor. Perhaps the official synopsis can help shed some light.

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

The mystery of Spectre will uncovered November 6th (USA).

STAR WARS: Boba Fett and Stormtrooper Variant Figures From Square Enix

Square Enix has released some very cool "Play Arts Kai Variant" figures that add a bit of Japanese anime/video game flare. So far we've posted their Darth Vader and Batman figures that are a must-see. Today, we have two new Star Wars-inspired figures of Boba Fett and a Stormtrooper. And if you haven't already seen it, you must watch "Tie-Fighter," an anime fan film.

Hugh Jackman Says He'll Play Wolverine "One Last Time"

Well, this had to happen eventually, but the day has finally come: Hugh Jackman, who has played Wolverine since Bryan Singer's X-Men arguably kicked off the current comic book movie boom back in 2000, has announced that he'll play the character "one last time."

Here's what Jackman posted to his Instagram account over the weekend:

The Wolverine director James Mangold quickly took to his Twitter account and confirmed that the film in question will be The Wolverine 2, which is currently slated to debut on March 3rd, 2017.

WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME. HJ

A photo posted by Hugh Jackman (@thehughjackman) on

Last week, word hit the web that Jackman, Halle Berry, and Channing Tatum's Gambit would be making cameo appearances in Singer's upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, but if Jackman's caption is to be believed, then maybe those rumors were false. Or maybe he just meant that he's suiting up for a full feature one last time with The Wolverine 2, and we still may see him pop up briefly in Apocalypse. It's a bit of a reversal from his recent comments, which indicated that he wanted to play Wolverine until he dies.

Either way, we now know that Jackman's tenure as Logan is coming to an end, and it's sort of sad to think about. He's been a constant presence in comic book movies for the past fifteen years (half my life), and while it will certainly be interesting to see what Fox decides to do with the character moving forward, it just won't be the same without Jackman "snikt"-ing his way through the X-Men universe. He's currently appeared as Wolverine in seven different X-films, so unless he pops up in Apocalypse, he'll finish up with a grand total of eight.

He's a tremendously talented actor, and I'm sure he'll do some awesome things in the coming years (some of my favorite performances of his are actually in non-X-Men movies like The Fountain and The Prestige), so we look forward to following his career, and of course, we look forward to seeing him don the claws one last time.

Dwayne Johnson Plays a Live-Action BAMBI in Funny SNL Video

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson hosted the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live, and as you might imagine, he and the writers poked a little fun at his upcoming appearance in Furious 7.

Since the success of the live-action Alice in Wonderland, Disney has decided to adapt more and more of their animated classics into live-action movies (going as far as having Tim Burton direct a live-action Dumbo, which sounds like something The Onion would come up with). But one property they haven't tried adapting yet is Bambi, and SNL decided to cast The Rock as the titular deer and reimagine the franchise as a woodland parallel to the Fast & Furious saga. Check it out below, and keep an ear out for some awesome puns and Taran Killam's incredible Vin Diesel impression.

Maisie Williams To Guest Star on DOCTOR WHO

Maisie Williams, best known for her role as Arya Stark on HBO's popular Game of Thrones, will guest star on Doctor Who in it's 9th season. I've read some wild fan speculation on Williams having more than just a simple guest star role. While I think she might be brilliant as a companion, hopefully she's too busy doing The Last of Us, which last we heard was a "Yes."

Here's Williams talking about being on Doctor Who:

“I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, chimed in:

"We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell."

No premiere date for Season 9 of Doctor Who has been announced yet.

All Smurfs Must Smurf: Watch Animated GAME OF SMURFS Parody

Fox's Animation Domination High Def, the same people responsible for all these insane videos, are back with a mashup of The Smurfs and HBO's Game of Thrones. As you might expect, it's pretty damn ridiculous, with its fair share of graphic violence (picture above), Smurf sex, incest, and more. No dragons, though. I'm surprised they didn't find a way to work those in somehow. Anyway, this is a very weird combination of properties, but I guess that's what ADHD is all about — making weird stuff. Mission accomplished.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Gets Its First Teaser Trailer

This past weekend during the season finale of The Walking Dead, AMC aired the first teaser for its upcoming spin-off companion show, which was recently confirmed to be officially titled Fear The Walking Dead. It's very quick, and doesn't give you a good look at any of its characters, but it does give a quick glimpse of its Los Angeles setting and a voiceover provides some context about an upcoming virus that's spreading throughout the country. For more story details and the first-look images from the show (which has already been picked up for at least two seasons), click those links. Watch the teaser below, and prepare yourselves for the premiere coming late this summer:

Start Your Engines With This Car Movie Supercut

It's time for me to publicly admit it: I'm obsessed with the Fast & Furious franchise. This should come as no surprise to those of you who have read me raving about it here before, but having just finished a rewatch of Fast & Furious 6 last night — a film I was too hard on upon its initial release — it's become clear to me that this just might be one of my favorite movie series of all time.

MovieClips has released a new supercut in celebration of Furious 7's upcoming release, and it's basically a thinly-veiled excuse to revisit some of the best scenes in the Fast franchise while throwing some other car movies in there, too. There are certainly car supercuts out there that include more classic films, but as someone who can barely contain my excitement for Furious 7, I found this to be pretty enjoyable.

Adam West and Burt Ward Providing Voices For New Animated BATMAN Movie

$

One of the fondest memories I have as a kid is watching the 1960s Batman movie again and again. It was one of my favorite things to watch, and since this was years before Batman: The Animated Series came out, it served as my major introduction to The Dark Knight and The Boy Wonder. I loved the colorful costumes, the crazy gadgets (remember the shark repellent Batspray?), and the onomatopoeia text cards that would pop up during fight sequences ("BAM!" "ZIP!" "OOF!"). At the time, there was nothing better.

The original Batman TV series turned Adam West and Burt Ward into household names, and the show is celebrating its 50th anniversary next year. The Dynamic Duo was at a convention in North Carolina this weekend to announce at least one new animated feature film is on the way, and that they'll be providing the voices for their old characters. Check it out (via AICN):

That sounds pretty awesome to me, but it's still unclear whether this animated project will be drawn with the '60s versions of Batman and Robin in mind, or if they'll be providing the voices for updated or different versions of the characters. As AICN points out, DC is currently publishing a Batman '66 comic, so maybe they can utilize that same look for the movie (or movies) that will be released next year. We'll keep you posted with more info when we hear it. Excited to hear these guys get back into character once again?

Trevor Noah to Succeed Jon Stewart as Host of THE DAILY SHOW

After a long search for Jon Stewart's replacement, The Daily Show and Comedy Central have announced that South African comedian (and current Daily Show correspondent) Trevor Noah will take over for Stewart as the new host of the show. Noah is something of a surprise choice, considering he's only appeared on The Daily Show in three segments so far, but the 31-year-old comedian has Stewart's blessing. Here's what Stewart had to say in a statement:

I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with. I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!

And Noah himself released a statement as well:

It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at The Daily Show have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world. In my brief time with the show they’ve made me feel so welcome. I’m excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people.

It remains to be seen which of those people will actually be remaining on board when Stewart vacates the hosting chair, since some correspondents have been rapidly moving on to other projects following the announcement that Stewart was leaving. Will Jessica Williams (once considered a frontrunner for Stewart's replacement) stick around? Time will tell, but I hope so.

If you aren't familiar with Noah's work, here are a couple of videos to introduce you:

Whether its pre-New 52, All Star Batman & Robin, New 52, Justice League Unlimited, the Arrow-verse, etc, there is one constant among all versions of Black Canary: She kicks ass, and she doesn't need any bubblegum.

One of the DCU’s premier martial artists, Dinah Lance has been a stalwart member of the Justice League, not just because of her combat skills or powerful canary cry, but also for her ability to lead when needed. In a time where the big three are typically out doing their own thing, someone has to look over things, and Canary has often filled that role. It is really no wonder she’s one of the more popular cosplays. In honor of that, here is some of the best Black Canary cosplay around. If you like what you see, make sure to let the supremely talented cosplayers and photographers responsible know.

The April 10th premiere of the Netflix original series Daredevil is rapidly approaching, which can only mean a major marketing blitz over the next couple weeks. Today, we have a TV spot that features a fair amount new footage and gives us even more to be excited about. We also have five characters posters joined into a single banner and a new poster of the title character.

I can't wait to binge watch the show and look for clues on how it fits into the larger Marvel cineverse. If you aren't already subscribed to Netflix, you are missing out on some great original programming.

We've recently posted a couple oversized iPhone cases that look like the DeLorean from Back to The Future and the Batmobile from Tim Burton's Batman. Why people are buying these super impractical cases completely escapes my logic, but to keep this hot new trend going we've now got the Tumbler Batmobile first seen in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. I hope they do Ghostbuster's Ecto 1 or the A-Team Van as an iPhone case, because those are the only two cars that would be even more impractical as cases than the previous three.

If you must own this iPhone case, you can buy it now at P-Bandai.JP for about $50.
