New TERMINATOR GENISYS Trailer is Action Filled

0
0

After a fury of news around Terminator Genisys this past week, we now have a new full trailer. It mostly expands on what we've seen so far with new bits of expanded action set pieces peppered in. J.K. Simmons makes an appearance in the trailer which is the first time we've seen him in the film. I'm guessing he's a Cyberdyne employee in the mid-late 1990s.

The movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Byung-Hun Lee, and Matt SmithTerminator Genisys saves the world July 1st (USA).

Supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio Joins TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2

In last year's remake (or reimagining, or whatever the hell you want to call it) of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michelangelo and Will Arnett's Vernon Fenwick were both vying for the attention of Megan Fox's April O'Neil. Arnett's character was sort of a perv, but according to Heat Vision, he manages to attract the attention of a supermodel in the sequel. Alessandra Ambrosio, a Victoria's Secret Angel, has signed on to appear as herself in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, and she'll be the love interest of Will Arnett this time around.

The two were seen making out at a New York Knicks game the other day during filming of the movie, which is being directed by Earth To Echo helmer Dave Green. This will be the first movie appearance for Ambrosio (other than as an extra in the Bond film Casino Royale — she's at the 1:18 mark in this video), but the Brazilian supermodel has appeared in episodes of Entourage and Gossip Girl, and her IMDb page claims she has a role in the upcoming comedy Daddy's Home, but I don't think that's been confirmed. Anyway, since Michael Bay is producing this sequel and he has a history of filming Victoria's Secret commercials, I imagine it wasn't too difficult to get Ambrosio to join the movie. But can she act? Well, it's a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel produced by Michael Bay, so it doesn't really matter. Watch her in Funny or Die's Weird Science 2 short below:

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Book Covers Reveal Spoilers

0

Spoilers can come from some of the strangest places. Today, we've got book cover scans from Avengers: Age of Ultron junior novels that show HYDRA soldiers wearing adapted technology from the Chitauri, who attacked New York in the first film. We don't yet know what these suits do, but based on their lack of weaponry and those glowing blue knuckle guards, I'm expecting to see some crazy hand-to-hand combat.

In the trailer we see the Avengers under fire from energy weapons in the woods, my guess is that it's the tank. The Hulk hates tanks and I can't wait to see him smash them.

Who knows what else HYDRA has adapted Chitauri tech into? We'll just have to wait and find out. Avengers: Age of Ultron takes the fight to theaters May 1st (USA).

Haunting GAME OF THRONES Remix Song "Save Our Sons"

The second season of Game of Thrones seems like such a long time ago, but John D. Boswell (aka "MelodySheep") from Symphony of Science has remixed some of the season's most memorable speeches into a beautiful, haunting song called "Save Our Sons." There's a lot of auto-tuning involved, but it's done in a way that makes the words seem even more lyrical and fluid than George R.R. Martin's original writing. It's also a really catchy piece of music, and I'll probably have it stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Check it out below:

New Footage in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Featurette About Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

Marvel just released a video for Avengers: Age of Ultron titled "Super Siblings." It's a minute long and focuses on Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Director Joss Whedon explains the characters, while Taylor-Johnson and Olsen talk about playing the twins. We see a few bits of new footage; the coolest bit is seeing Quicksilver using his super-speed.

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters May 1st (USA), or earlier if you live in another country.

AKIRA — Informative Video on the Differences Between the Anime and Manga

Akira is a mind-blowing film that helped popularize anime in the United States. It's the first anime movie I had ever seen and changed the way I look at animation forever. Michael Truly and Casey Redmon of CineFix — with help from Tom Pinchuk of AnimeVice — have created a 12-minute breakdown of the differences between the seminal anime and it's manga source material. This is easily the most informative thing you will watch today. The most interesting thing I learned is that the movie only scratches the surface of the manga story. I think it's entirely possible to do a huge multi-season Game of Thrones-style adaption of the manga, because even a movie trilogy might not be long enough.

Robert Kirkman Confirms Title of THE WALKING DEAD Spinoff

0

We've already seen our first look at AMC's upcoming spin-off of their wildly popular The Walking Dead, but until now, we weren't 100% certain what the network was going to call it. Now comic creator Robert Kirkman has taken to Twitter to confirm a title that had been rumored for months beforehand:

Well, there's something to be said for brand consistency, I suppose. It's not the most innovative title, but fans won't care about that: they'll care about whether or not the show can be as riveting as they think the original series is. (Personally, I'm hoping this show is much better than the original, which I just can't get into because of how slow the first season was.)

Fear The Walking Dead will star Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, House of Cards) and Cliff Curtis (Live Free or Die Hard, Sunshine), and it will take place in Los Angeles during the time when Rick is in a coma before the opening of The Walking Dead pilot. The show will air its first trailer during this Sunday's Walking Dead finale, and it will premiere sometime late this summer. If Kirkman is to be believed, there's even more news on the way, so stay tuned.

Infographic: The History of Batman's Utility Belt

Earlier this morning, I wrote about a video that essentially tells you how to become a variation on Batman in real life. But one thing that video failed to really dive into was the utility belt. It's been a staple of Batman's crime-fighting ensemble for decades, and with Bruce Wayne's bottomless supply of money, he can basically commission or create any type of gadget imaginable and always have it within arm's reach. Take a look at this infographic detailing the history of the utility belt, courtesy of MMToolParts (via /Film):

Kill Me Now: Paramount Planning TRANSFORMERS Cinematic Universe

0
0

I wanted to like the Transformers movies. The first one wasn't terrible when it came out (but it doesn't hold up very well), the second one was completely incoherent, the third one had enough well-shot bombastic action scenes to sort of pull me back in, but the fourth was such a flaming pile of crap that I swore off all Michael Bay-directed entries from now on. I've been stung too many times. I knew the series wasn't going anywhere — aside from Mission: Impossible, it's Paramount's only true cash cow right now — but I hoped, naively it turns out, that someone else would step in and take the franchise in a new direction, and maybe give it a story and characters that people actually care about.

But now that hope has been dashed on the rocks of reality. Deadline reports that the studio is negotiating with Batman & Robin writer Akiva Goldsman to work with Bay and executive producers Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura to form a Transformers brain trust of writers who will create a new cinematic universe with sequels and spinoffs, similar to what Disney is doing with Marvel and Star Wars. Goldsman is technically not expected to be writing any of these upcoming movies, but it seems as if he'll be coming up with the story ideas and other writers will be putting them down on the page. Great. That's just perfect.

Bay has his Benghazi film 13 Hours up next, but he's expected to return to direct Transformers 5 after he wraps production on that. If all goes according to plan, the next Transformers movie, similar to Paramount's upcoming Terminator Genisys, will set up a multi-film arc. And with the staggering sums of money the studio must be paying him to come back to direct these films (plus the "one for them, one for me mentality" that was the reason behind Pain & Gain, Bay's only good movie of the past decade), we can expect that he'll keep coming back for more, ensuring less coherent storytelling and more explosions moving forward.

Honestly, it's tough to blame Paramount for a move like this. Hollywood is all about trends, and the trend right now it to give everything under the sun its own cinematic universe. When a studio only has one or two major money-making properties (and an edict from on high to increase their film output, as is the case here), it makes sense that they'd go all-in on what they have and hope for the best. But even though this will likely turn into a win for the studio overall (these movies make serious bank overseas), this has to be seen as a sad day for anyone who cares about blockbuster movies.

Horror Movie Posters Get Animated GIF Treatment

Imgur user SamRAW08 has taken over 20 horror movie posts and turned them into animated GIFs. Most of these are horror movies from the '80s and '90s, which I think is horror's golden era. The animation style is similar to what we see done with motion comics, only SamRAW08 doesn't have access to the raw files, so he likely has to paint or replicate any missing parts. Well done!

Bond is Back in First SPECTRE Teaser Trailer

The world's greatest super spy has returned. After 2012's excellent Skyfall, director Sam Mendes is back to direct Daniel Craig in another outing as James Bond, marking the 24th film in the franchise with Spectre. Sony Pictures has released the first teaser for the film, and it's far darker than I expected, both in terms of color palette and story. I love that "kite dancing in a hurricane" line, and that last shadowy shot of Christoph Waltz is incredibly exciting. He's gotta be Blofeld, right?

Spectre stars Craig, Waltz, Monica Belluci, Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, and Andrew Scott. It arrives in U.S. theaters on November 6th, 2015. What do you think about the film's first teaser?

Animated SMURFS Reboot Coming in 2017

While the 2011 The Smurfs movie grossed $563 million and the sequel The Smurfs 2 took in a respectable $347 million, Sony has decided to reboot the franchise as a fully animated movie. It never made sense to me why they made it a live-action movie mixed with CGI to begin with. Sony Pictures Animation announced that the untitled Smurfs movie's release date is March 31st, 2017, specifying that it's to take advantage of the run-up to Easter.

The reboot will feature creator Peyo’s (Pierre Culliford) original drawings and concept, which I'm sure die-hards are happy to hear about. Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2) is directing, Jordan Kerner (Charlotte’s Web) is producing, and Mary Ellen Bauder is co-producing.

On the movie's production blog, Asbury said:

“Since this new film has no connection to the previous live-action hybrids, we have a whole new world to create and it is critical to me and my crew that we deliver a movie that will enchant families and fans worldwide for years to come.”

If they get this right maybe I'll even be interested in watching it. Sony said they will be announcing the final title and voice cast over the coming months.

Wondering How To Become Batman? This Video Will Show You What You Need

I don't know about you, but I've certainly had the thought run through my mind of trying to become a real-life superhero. (Granted, the thought quickly passed when I realized the practical implications of what that would mean, but still.) For those of you who are sitting there entertaining the notion of donning a superhero costume and fighting crime yourselves, the least you can do is watch a how-to video detailing how to become a Batman-like hero. You may not be the hero your city deserves, but you might just be the one it needs right now. (Probably not, though: just call the cops if you see a crime being committed.)

Trailer for Patrick Stewart Comedy BLUNT TALK

0
0

Blunt Talk is a half-hour comedy on Starz premiering this summer with a 10 episode run. It stars Patrick Stewart as a British anchorman/host for an American cable news show who has an unstable personality, a drug problem, multiple ex-wives, multiple children with various women, and a dutiful manservant (Adrian Scarborough) who is also an alcoholic. The show also stars Jackie Weaver, Dolly Wells, and Timm Sharp.

Blunt Talk comes from the mind of creator/showrunner Jonathan Ames (Bored to Death). Set in Los Angeles, the show seems built for celebrity cameos. Based purely on the recently released trailer, the show looks irreverent and funny, in-spite of executive producer Seth MacFarlane's involvement (I loathe A Million Ways to Die in the West). I'm willing to give the show a chance based purely on its cast, but comedies come down to cast chemistry and sustained good writing.

Starz is pretty confident in the show, preemptively renewing it for a second season and 20 episodes. Will you be tuning in?

HALT AND CATCH FIRE — First Clip From Season 2

AMC's Halt and Catch Fire is a riveting drama that had me completely hooked since episode one. The show also has a really cool title sequence that has a mix of retro style graphic art, 3D rendering, and stylized distortion, coupled with ominous theme music.

If you haven't seen the show, you can binge-watch it on Netflix starting April 8th and it's only 10 episodes long. Season two starts on May 31st. The clip looks to be one long take from the first five minutes of the new episode and presents the chaos of a tech startup in 1980s Texas.

THE SHADOW Faces Off Against Cthulhu in Mashup Art

We see a ton of mash-up art for super popular things like Star Wars and the Marvel films, but here's one from artist Exedor3 that's a little more obscure. It's called "The Shadow and the Return of the Old One," and in it The Shadow, a popular character from radio serials (back before TVs even existed) faces off against Cthulhu, H.P. Lovecraft's evil cosmic entity. I like to imagine that's the Alec Baldwin version of The Shadow from the 1994 film screaming at the coming onslaught.

Lea Michele and Kate Upton to Star in William H. Macy's THE LAYOVER

0
0

I meant to see William H. Macy's directorial debut Rudderless when it came out last year (read our review here), but it was one of those films I just didn't get around to seeing. But the leading ladies in his next project might be a bigger draw than his previous cast (no offense, Billy Crudup).

Deadline reports that Glee's Lea Michele and supermodel Kate Upton have been cast in The Layover, a road trip sex comedy that will serve as Macy's second directorial effort. The movie was written by Lance Krall and David Hornsby, who executive produces It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as well as playing Rickety Cricket on the FXX comedy. Here's what the movie is about:

Michele and Upton play a pair of lifelong best friends who decide to avoid their problems by taking a vacation only to find that their plane has been rerouted due to a hurricane warning. To make matters worse, the two friends find themselves battling for the same guy during an extended layover in St. Louis. Macy will play a role in the film as well.

I'm guessing Macy isn't playing the guy that the two ladies are battling over, so we'll have to wait and see who else he can pull into this movie. For some reason, I don't imagine it'll be too difficult to find a guy willing to play someone who's caught between Lea Michele and Kate Upton.
