Six New Images from TERMINATOR: GENISYS

Empire Magazine has released a cover for their upcoming issues featuring Emila Clarke as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger as a the T-800 in Terminator: Genisys. They’ve also released five photos from the movie, one of which offers us our first look at J.K. Simmons as Detective O’Brien.

As a long time fan of the Terminator franchise, I really hope that this movie delivers a chapter in the franchise that we will be happy with. I liked what I saw in the trailers, so maybe there’s a chance that it will all work out.

The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.

Terminator: Genisys will be released in theaters July 1st. To watch the most recent trailer for the film, click here

Incredibly Fun Full Trailer for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION

Over the weekend a teaser trailer was released that gave us our first look at Tom Cruise kicking-ass as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. Paramount Pictures has now released a full trailer for the fifth film in the franchise, and I'm really pumped up about seeing this one! It looks like it's going to be a helluva fun movie! There's some great action that I think a lot of you will enjoy.

The new flick finds Hunt’s highly effective but destructive Impossible Mission Force (IMF) disbanded by vengeful Washington bureaucrats such as the CIA chief (played by Alec Baldwin). But Hunt pulls his team together (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and newcomer Rebecca Ferguson) to battle the shadowy force known as “The Syndicate” and its elusive leader (Sean Harris).

The movie was directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun, Jack Reacher) and also stars Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Simon McBurney (The Last King of Scotland, The Theory of Everything), and Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules). The movie will hit theaters on July 31st.

I don't know why people say IKEA furniture is hard to build, maybe because I actually look at the instructions. Artist and illustrator Ed Harrington has created a series of IKEA-style instructions on how to create serious movie monsters. None of these seems like things I'd want to do, but hey, to each their own.

We've posted a few other IKEA style posts worth checking out, including this Lightsaber Extension Kit and Hilarious Sci-Fi Ikea Building Instructions

This 1984 AQUAMAN Fan Film Cost $10,000 to Make

$

0

This is the first Aquaman fan film ever made, and it was created in 1984 by UCLA film students Thomas Farr and Jeff Klein. The film is called Aquaman: Cast of the Angler, and the two students managed to pool together $10,000 of their own money to make it.

Since it was made in the '80s, you can expect a lot of laughable silliness, but it’s still fun to watch, and it’s really a solid fan made film. Especially for the '80s. They took a few creative liberties with Aquaman’s origin story, and pit the superhero against "The Angler,” who is basically a stand in for the classic villain The Fisherman.

Jeff Klein and I made this during film school for 10 grand. We won Best Fantasy Film from the Los Angeles Film Teachers Association and Best Picture CSUN Film Showcase. DC Comics gave us permission to shoot the film (Thanks Jenette Kahn DC Comics 1979-2002) The movie was pirated and sold as a TV pilot. I accidentally found it at a comic book convention in the 90's (as a double feature with another super hero pilot). After the film was screened we had a few Hollywood companies approach us wanting to make Aquaman into a show. New World Pictures brought us into meeting, optioned the material, and basically didn't talk to us afterwards. The show never happened. Jeff and I will always be proud of the film. We had written a million dollar script so we shot a few scenes as a trailer/short. No money for effects it has a "Six Million Dollar Man" look with the feel of the old Batman series of the 60's. We were ahead of our time. We always knew this could be a great property. Hoping the new movie is fun and exciting. There were scratches in the film when I transferred recently. So, one day when I have the money I will try and take out in post. Or see if Jeff's print of the film is still around and see if it is in better shape.

The short also includes an appearance by Thomas Dewier, who went on to become a famous Hollywood stuntman who would appear in Batman & Robin, Iron Man 3, X-Men: First Class, Star Trek into Darkness, the Power Rangers movie, and more. He played The Angler.

As for the creators of the short, they never made another film.

Brett Ratner Wants to Remake ENTER THE DRAGON

Here’s a bit of news that might make a few you want to puke. Apparently, Brett Ratner wants to remake the legendary Bruce Lee film Enter the Dragon. The director mentioned the idea of doing this movie at a screening of Rush Hour over the weekend. The news comes from AICN, who says,

“According to a few attendees I've spoken to, he (Ratner) reassured the audience that he wasn't trying to find the next Bruce Lee or anything crazy like that. Evidently, he only brought up the remake after professing his love for Lalo Schifrin's amazing score, and seemed to indicate that his film would be a reimagining of Robert Clouse's iconic showcase for Lee's talents… He wouldn't get into specifics.”

Ratner is a filmmaker who should never be allowed to touch Enter the Dragon. Hell, the movie shouldn’t be allowed to be remade in the first place. But the fact that Ratner wants to do it makes the whole thing even more utterly awful.

If you’ve seen any of Ratner’s films, then you know the guy isn’t a very good filmmaker. Many of the fanboys and fangirls still haven’t forgiven him for what he did with X-Men: The Last Stand, and his last film, Hercules, was so bad that it's hard to believe any studio would give him any money to make another movie. He just doesn’t have the talent to pull off something as amazing as Enter The Dragon

Hopefully the project doesn’t gain any traction, just like the majority of the films that he has tried to develop over the years.

Would any of you like to see Ratner remake Enter the Dragon

Watch THE MATRIX Lobby Shootout in LEGO Form

The lobby shootout from The Matrix is one of the film's major setpieces, and I remember my jaw dropping when I saw it for the first time in theaters. I'm guessing it will go down as one of the best action scenes of all time, and it certainly contributed to turning The Wachowskis into household names overnight. (Whether or not they've lived up to their potential is an entirely different conversation.)

Now YouTuber Snooperking has recreated the sequence using LEGO and stop-motion animation, and while the resulting video isn't quite as smooth as, say, The LEGO Movie, it still looks pretty excellent overall. There's also something kind of hilarious about seeing Neo and Trinity completely destroy people in LEGO form — the fact that these violent acts are being committed by toys adds a layer of humor to the whole thing. And some might argue that Snooperking's new ending is actually an improvement over the real movie - check it out for yourselves and let us know what you think in the comments.

Details on Harley Quinn's Look in SUICIDE SQUAD

One of the characters I'm most looking forward to seeing up on the big screen in David Ayer's Suicide Squad is Harley Quinn. The villainous and insane femme fatale is being played by Margot Robbie, who I think will be perfect in the role.

Thanks to Latino-Review's El Mayimbe, we have some new details on the character that involve her looks and a couple other things that fans might be excited to learn.

All about Margot Robbie's #HARLEYQUINN! Got a lot of requests about her so here is what I'm told. Harley Quinn has a few looks throughout the film. Going from traditional with the animated series as a reference to prison attire & in one sequence where they infiltrate a club she swears a dress. Get this, her & Joker's pet Hyena's are in the film briefly. Apparently, Harley with the hyena's are a big motif. Figured fans of #BATMAN:TAS would get a kick out of this one.

I couldn't be happier that that at one point her look will pay tribute to the animated series. For those of you who don't know, Harley was created for Batman: The Animated Series, and she eventually found her way into the DC Comics universe due to her popularity. I also think it's great that the pet hyenas will make a cameo.  I can't wait to get my first look at Margot Robbie in full costume!

So far, everything that I've heard about this movie has been great. I think I'm more excited about Suicide Squad than I am for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. To catch up on any of the previously released Suicide Squad rumors, click on the following links: Details on How Batman Will Fit InDetails on Deathstroke's Breakout Role, and The Joker Will Be Based on The Dark Knight Returns.

New FURIOUS 7 Featurette and Images

Furious 7 is one of my most anticipated films of the year. I've been a fan of the franchise from the beginning, but it wasn't until Fast Five that I became a mega-fan. For me, that was when the movies seemed to turn a corner and fully embrace what they're best at: bold filmmaking, insane stunts, and cheesy, sentimental, but heartfelt themes of family. That was the groundwork that Justin Lin laid with the previous four films, and from the look of it, James Wan didn't miss a beat when he took over the franchise for this entry.

Universal has sent over a new featurette that has some of the cast laying out what we can expect from the new movie, and teasing the sense of closure fans will experience when it comes to Paul Walker's Brian O'Conner character. After Walker's tragic death, that's definitely an aspect we all want to see. They also included a bunch of new images from the movie, and this morning we saw seven new clips from the film. Furious 7 opens on April 3rd.

BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT — 7-min Gameplay Video and New Release Date

Batman: Arkham Knight is one of my most anticipated games this year. After a major release date push back we are now getting a second minor delay. Instead of the previously announced release date of June 2nd, it's now coming June 23rd. This is what Rocksteady had to say on the matter:

Batman: Arkham Knight will now launch worldwide on June 23, 2015. We’re a developer that hates to make any compromises, so we are sorry to say this means it’s going to be just a little bit longer until you can play the epic conclusion to the Arkham trilogy. As a reward for your patience and understanding, and to make the wait even more unbearable, we are pleased to whet your appetite with a new gameplay video of Batman: Arkham Knight.
Thanks so much from everyone at Rocksteady for your continued support. We are working as hard as we can to make you proud.

At least we can console ourselves with the seven-minute gameplay video Rocksteady released today to keep you pumped for an extra 21 days.

HBO's GAME OF THRONES Will Spoil the Ending of George R.R. Martin's Books

$

HBO's Game of Thrones has been a joy to watch, and the fact that it's based on the unfinished A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R.R. Martin, seems to have caused an interesting dilemma for fans of both mediums.

The next novel in the series isn’t scheduled to hit store until at least 2016. With that in mind, Game of Thrones is speedily catching up to the books that it was born from, and series executive producer David Benioff recently admitted that the show will eventually spoil the ending of the books.

While talking to the Oxford Union, Benioff admitted that his team was stuck “between a rock and a hard place.” No one wants to spoil the A Song of Ice and Fire ending for readers, but the show has to keep going.

"Luckily, we’ve been talking about this with George [R.R. Martin] for a long time... and we know where things are heading. So, we’ll eventually meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going. There might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination."

The series has taken a few different directions from the books, and that will continue to happen. But what this news tells us is that they will both end in the same way. When HBO started the series, the creators hoped that the books would be published before the series ended, but that's not how it turned out. Benioff explains why they can't wait for the series to end:

"We can’t put the show on hiatus… We can’t take a two-year break 'cause you know these guys are in demand and they are going to go off and do other stuff. So, we kind of have to keep pushing forward."

I think we all had an idea that this was going to happen, but now it's been confirmed. It's a pretty big deal because I can understand why this would piss off fans of the book. I guess if the hardcore book fans really wanted to, they could just put off watching Game of Thrones until after Martin finishes the story and they've read it. But the temptation is there.

As for me, I don't mind. I'll watch the series, and then read the books after they're published. Martin’s next novel isn’t coming anytime soon, so if Game of Thrones catches up, that's just how it has to be. The plan for the showrunners was to end Game of Thrones with Season 7 or 8, even though HBO is hoping for more.

What do you think about Game of Thrones spoiling the ending of the books?

Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN Film Will Not Interfere With PROMETHEUS 2 Plans

neill-blomkamps-alien-film-will-not-interfere-with-prometheus-2-plans

Just in case you were wondering if that new Alien film being developed by Neill Blomkamp will affect Ridley Scott's Prometheus 2...it won't. The two films are being developed concurrently, and according to Blomkamp, his film will not “tread on the toes” of what Scott is doing with his sequel. The director revealed in an interview with Empire that he had to change one thing in his story, but wouldn't say what:

“I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping ‘Prometheus’ a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make.”

The movie has yet to be given an official title, but he knows what he wants it to be, and he already sent it to Scott to see what he thinks.

“I sent what I wanted as the title to Ridley. It’s kinda quite bold, and he was like, ‘I really like that.’ So I’m gonna test it, I don’t think it’s gonna work, though. I have my own idea but it gives away too much if I say the title. But in the event that it doesn’t work, I’m dead in the water…”

We know that the film will follow the events of Alien and Aliens, but won't undo Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. It will also give a proper ending to Ripley and it looks like Cpl. Hicks will be involved with the story as well.  Other than that, we aren't sure what to expect, but I'm excited to see what Blomkamp is cooking up. Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn are expected to return.

Scott is supposed to direct Prometheus 2 from a script written by Michael Green and Jack PaglenNoomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are set to reprise their roles, and it will follow their characters on an adventure to the homeworld of the Engineers of both the Xenomorph species and humanity.

Prometheus 2 is set to be released on March 4th, 2016, and the new Alien film will most likely be released sometime in 2017.

7 Actors Who Almost Played Iron Man

Mr. Sunday Movies is back with a new video, this one taking a look at seven actors who very nearly stepped into the role of Tony Stark. It's almost common knowledge that Tom Cruise famously wanted to play the character back in the '90s, but I had no idea that he commissioned a script that was co-written by Stan Lee. There are a couple of other cool pieces of info in the video that some of you may not have known (I certainly didn't), so kick on your arc reactors, power up your own personal Jarvis, and check it out below.

Simon Kinberg and Neill Blomkamp Turning Sci-Fi Short LEVIATHAN into Feature

$

0

Last week, we posted an awesome short film called The Leviathan from Oscar-nominated director Ruairi Robinson, who released the project as a proof-of-concept piece in the hopes of generating interest for a potential feature-length adaptation. Since the short is about giant space whales (!), it garnered a ton of attention from the geek community — and it also caught the attention of a number of big name Hollywood producers.

Deadline reports that Simon Kinberg (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fantastic Four) has boarded the project as a producer, while Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie, the upcoming Alien 5) will be an executive producer. Kingberg's first-look deal with 20th Century Fox was likely a factor in him beating out a lot of other producers for the chance to make this movie, since the idea of a studio having a first option on the project was probably pretty appealing to Robinson. But as Deadline points out, even if Fox does end up passing on the adaptation, the filmmakers likely won't have trouble finding an eventual distributor considering how insanely popular the short has proven to be over the course of just a few days.

As for Blomkamp, as long as he stays far, far away from the script, this movie has a much better shot at actually being great. He's already proven that he's an exceptional world-builder who knows design like few others working today, but he's also a writer who seems to hit people over the head with his messages and lets the story take a backseat to his designs. If he helps with the look of the movie and avoids story elements altogether, that's a best-case scenario for The Leviathan.

Here's the synopsis, and you can watch the whole thing again below to get pumped up for the full-length movie:

By the early 22nd century mankind had colonized many worlds. Faster than light travel was made possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those that take part in the hunt are mostly involuntary labor.

Manga-Style Disney Princesses by Chihiro Howe

Artist Chihiro Howe has taken the well-known Disney Princesses and given 13 of them a manga-style treatment. While oversized eyes, small noses, small chins, and a 2D rendering don't change the classic designs that much, it does unify them visually. Howe adds just the right amount of texture and details to make these portraits pop. I'd be interested in seeing Howe do more Disney characters in this style.

Marvel Has Reportedly Auditioned A 16-Year-Old To Play Spider-Man

$

As soon as Marvel and Sony made the announcement that Spider-Man would be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the first big question for fans was: who will play him this time? Andrew Garfield has been kicked to the curb, and they're looking to bring in some new blood to play the web-slinger. Early rumors said that the studio was looking at Dylan O'Brien and Logan Lerman, but then word came out that they were looking at even younger actors.

Now Badass Digest has heard that Marvel has secretly auditioned a 16-year-old actor named Mateus Ward for the part. Ward has appeared on shows like Weeds, Lab Rats, Hostages, and Murder in the First - none of which I've seen, so I can't comment on whether or not I think he'd be a good fit for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. But it does confirm that Marvel is looking at much younger actors — guys who would actually be believable when they are supposed to be playing a high school student.

At one point, there was some speculation going around that the new Spider-Man wouldn't be white, but if this report is to be believed, it's tough to imagine that Ward would be up for Miles Morales; that would sort of defeat the point of that character, and would conjure up far more bad press than Marvel needs. We aren't sure if Ward has been offered the role or if he's signed a contract, but one thing's for sure: they better figure out who's going to play the next Spidey quickly, since Captain America: Civil War starts shooting in just a few days, and that film is supposed to feature the character's reintroduction.

Are you familiar with Ward's work? Think he'd make a good Spider-Man? Let us know below.
