Watch Will Ferrell & Kevin Hart Audition For Each Other's Movies

$

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are teaming up for the new comedy Get Hard, and the duo stopped by the Funny or Die studios to create a new thinly-veiled advertisement for the movie in the form of a video in which they show fake audition videos. Ferrell auditions as Hart's characters from Ride Along and Real Husbands of Hollywood, while Hart auditions as Ron Burgundy, Ricky Bobby, and Buddy the Elf. And then T.I. shows up for some reason.

Like I said, it's an obvious ploy for attention for Get Hard, but some of these fake auditions are pretty funny, so it's worth sharing. Check it out.

Terrifying Full Trailer for INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3

Update:

Apparently this trailer was an unauthorized leak, and we've been asked to remove it until the official trailer is released. We'll kick this piece back to the top of the site when the new trailer goes live. Apologies for the inconvenience. Original article follows.

A new trailer has been released for Insidious: Chapter 3, and it's fantastically frightening! I liked what I saw in the first trailer, but this one gives you a much better idea of how creepy this movie is going to be. The new trailer offers us a lot of new footage in hopes to show you that this movie might scare the shit out of you.

I think Insidious is a brilliant horror film franchise. The first two films were amazing, and even though James Wan didn't come back to direct this sequel, it still looks awesome! This third chapter in the story was directed by Leigh Whannell, who is the writer of the first two films, and it sure does look like he's made a great flick.

This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

The film is set to be released on June 5th, and I can't wait!

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.

And… Furiosa (played by CHARLIZE THERON from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.

Ryan Reynolds Says DEADPOOL Will Appease Critical Fanboys

It's been months since a Deadpool movie was officially confirmed by 20th Century Fox, but I'm still having trouble believing that it's actually moving forward. This is one of those projects, like a new Ghostbusters movie, that has been talked about endlessly for years and years, and now both of them are finally happening (and more, in Ghostbusters' case). Star Ryan Reynolds, who has spoken a lot about the film since its official greenlight, opened up again in a recent interview with Shortlist and mentioned that he thinks the film will definitely please the vocal, super critical section of fanboys that have been following this project for years:

I’m incredibly happy about it - we’ve got a director that understands that world, and writers with a slavish devotion to the canon of that character. That’s the most important aspect: it’s made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace. Well, that’s the hope.

It certainly sounds like Tim Miller has a good handle on what he needs to do with this movie, and even though it will be PG-13, we're hopeful it retains the sarcastic, meta, violent tone it needs to do the character justice.

Deadpool arrives in theaters on February 12th, 2016. For more on the film, click here.

Costume Closet: Spotlight On Wonder Woman

$

With the ousting of the New 52 tag on their upcoming books, it would make sense that some costume designs also get shown the door, and none are bigger at DC Comics than the trinity of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman. You can see all of them here, but today we’re going to focus on Wonder Woman. Like Joey, I personally like Finch’s take on the outfit, though I could do without the bladed gauntlets. I’ve always preferred when Diana equips the sword and shield combo, a nod toward her classically trained Amazon Warrior roots.

Plus, you know, it just looks cool.

Regardless of weapon choice, I approve. Granted, that doesn't mean everyone does, but that’s perfectly fine - to each his/her own. Really quickly, however, let me address the J. Scott Campbell comments about the new duds. I encourage you to read his whole take on the subject, since context is always a powerful thing, but here is the part I wanted to highlight. (After this post was ready to go, the original comments on Facebook have become unavailible for some reason, so I've linked to the Bleeding Cool article which covers a lot of what he said). Here is a part of what he said.

shoulder pads, especially big bulky metal ones NEVER look good on women. Everything about them is unfeminine and lacks style. No grace to this approach at all.
And on a side note, I find the continued knee-jerk reaction to internet message board critics demands to keep female heroines covered from head to toe in fabric an overreaction. She’s an Amazon Warrior, she’s NOT in the *Taliban!

Okay, granted, he could have found a better example than the Taliban to use, so that’s on him. I did understand the point he was trying to make however, but I have to disagree. I’m all about having femininity still remain part of her costume and identity, and let us remember we are talking about superheroes here, so it doesn't have to remain staunchly in reality. That does not mean, however, that a female superhero can’t actually be covered with armor that maybe could withstand a punch or two, and doesn’t treat her solely as a superpowered Playboy bunny. Showing skin is fine, I have no problem with that, but this idea that having a hero’s legs and arms covered is tantamount to making them join a convent is kind of outlandish and more than a little silly. Contrary to what some people say, there is actually a middle ground, and its a bit easier to find than, say, Narnia.

Update: Since then, he has added some additional comments, as well as posted a quick sketch up. Here is the pic and his comments below.

I’ve been informed by many on Twitter this weekend that we can no longer handle THIS kind of Wonder Woman any more. Are they right..?
* Different, updated, but still recognizable as the multi-decades-long icon that she is ✓
* Authentic visual connection to her Grecian/Roman Amazonian culture and background ✓
* Americana infused such as the use of Red White And Blue, Eagle and Stars ✓
* Minimal arm protection thus making her abilities to deflect bullets with only the skillfull use of two small bracelets all the more impressive, as it should be! ✓
* Tasteful level of exposed skin to show off womanly athletic form without resorting to cleavage or thong etc... ✓
* Unencumbered shoulder area for easy twirling of lasso ✓
* Color-scheme bright, uplifting, and positive without excessive dark blackened in areas (well, imagine that it would be!) ✓
* Mild resemblance to Cobie Smulders (ok, I added that one in for me! wink emoticon ✓
Forgive the awkward pose. It's a bit tough putting her into action without covering her costume up. smile emoticon

He makes some good points, and there is nothing wrong with all of those things, but I guess the true point is its also okay to have her in something that doesn't more resemble an armored up bathing suit than an actual suit made for combat. Both are fine, and you don't have to have it exclusively one side or the other. I don't view it as a knee jerk reaction to feminists or to a PG audience or any other trite branding you would like to slap on it, I just see it as progress.

All right, so now that that whole thing is out of the way, here are a few new looks and designs from the artist community that are all over the map stylistically, but still rank among my favorites for various reasons.

Let's get started with one that suffers from those dreaded shoulder pads.

Artist: Rahzzah

Of course when I say "dreaded," I say so in jest, as I think they flow quite smoothly with the rest of this slickly produced redesign. The prevalence of the gold and silver in the armor is contrasted nicely with the various hues of red and just the right pop of blue. That skirt design is probably my favorite of the ones I’ve seen, and I love the patches of black used on the legs. The sword and short hair don’t hurt either, but even with long hair this would be a fantastic costume. Love this immensely, and while slightly impractical, the shoulder pads don’t take away from this one bit. In fact, they enhance it.

Artist: Meredith McClaren

Now to something a bit more out of the box. Meredith’s artwork is a sight to behold; it's just so fluid and full of personality, and her take on Wonder Woman is no different. Directly opposed to the previous medieval-esque armor, Meredith’s take is more of a jumpsuit, but it's so well done and way more practical than some of the outfits she’s been known to sport in the past. Not for everybody, rest assured, but I count myself as a fan.

Artist: The Mirrorball Man

This redesign really skews a bit younger and more fashionable than a straight up superhero costume typically does. I like how the gold is implemented into the costume, as well as how uncomplicated it is. Sometimes cleaner and simpler is better. I would love to see something like this used for Wonder Girl, but the current version of Cass doesn't exactly fit with a look like this.

Artist: Adrian Wilkins

Diana is a warrior, and I love costumes that highlight that. With Adrian Wilkins' design, there is no mistaking that this is someone you don’t want to mess with. I could completely see this being used at some point, perhaps with some polish on the arm and elbow armor. I greatly prefer the Assassin’s Creed-like gauntlet that holds her short sword, and wish that would be implemented into the current version instead of the current gold blades, and hip belts are seemingly everywhere, but the fact is they work really well, so I'm not complaining.

Artist: Alexiel April

Okay, so this one doesn’t really add any coverage so to speak, aside from the cape, but man, how cool is that cape!

Actually, there is more to like here. Alexiel’s style is wonderfully different, and I would love to see her take a full-on stab at pretty much any DC character. The muted stars here work much better for me than the standard bright white ones that seem to always be on Wonder Woman’s trunks, and the slick black gauntlets couldn’t look cooler. I don’t necessarily understand the purpose of the taped up arms and hands here, but can’t argue that they work with the rest of the look. Granted, that is how half of the bad costumes of the 90s got past an editor, but that is neither here nor there (“No Joe, they don’t serve a purpose, but look how cool that 8 bladed yellow helmet looks on the page!” “Okay Phil, let's do it!”).

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that is exactly how some of those meetings went.

Artist: Happy Mutt (David Paget)

Probably the best balance between the movie version of the costume and the current (pre new costume) New 52 suit is this redesign courtesy of David Paget. I always liked the current New 52 design from the waist up, but this costume addresses my few complaints with it. Surrounding the underwear trunks with a pteruges style skirt and actually blending it in with her torso armor makes this costume a top choice, and the black leggings help make the blue and red on the costume pop more.

Artist: Florian Pichon

Going away from the full armor is this lovely redesign by Florian Pichon, which goes for sleekness and agility over defense. Even though it covers a great deal of her upper body, there is still a flirtatiousness to it without it crossing into gratuitous territory. The detail work on the boots and the red gloves are nice additions, and again the blue shoulder pads don't take anything away from the suit's slick look.

Artist: Nebezial (Stjepan Sejic)

Fan favorite artist Nebezial always gives his superhero recreations some personality, and in this case, I think the best way to describe it and the outfit is pure badass. She could take on an army without breaking a sweat, and her armor looks completely capable of making sure she comes out unscathed. I absolutely love the leg armor he made, as well as how he implemented the eagle into her shoulder pads (again, not a detriment), and the long Roman style skirt completes the Amazon warrior's keen look.

Artist: Protokitty (Lynne Yoshii)

This one doesn’t redesign the wheel, but like another entry further down the list, it makes a few subtle changes that make quite a difference. The pants remind me of the David E. Kelly series costume, but not in a bad way. The costume was not the problem with that series after all. I like the idea of shin guards instead of prototypical boots, and the small star spangled cape actually adds a lot of motion to the suit, and would look great in fight scenes if it were used.

Also, can we make that axe a regular thing? It's pure awesome.

Artist: MysteryMing (Ming Doyle)

With a prominent Greek influence throughout, this costume is considerably unique. Ming’s use of the stars is by far my favorite part, and the outfit walks the line beautifully between elegance, royalty, and power. Diana would be right at home at a meeting at the U.N. or in the middle of New Jersey throwing down with Circe. Its just so different, and I love it.

redesign_wonderwoman_by_airoliv-d3dew9j.png

Artist: Pryce14 (Jamal Campbell)

Last but certainly not least is this take on WW by Jamal Campbell, which takes the current New 52 iteration of the costume and just so slightly tweaks a few things to make it a far better uniform. For starters I always prefer this version of the costume with pants (originally she was slated to have them, but then that plan was nixed, then brought back, then nixed again), so that’s a plus. He also kept the silver armor, but added a few accents of gold throughout, and it works really well here. The extension of the suit underneath the armor is far more practical than the strapless “how the heck does that stay up” breast armor she currently sports, and I like the implementation of the leather skirt around her waist. Not a huge overhaul, but proof that just a few changes can make a world of difference.

All right, well that is it for me. Of course these are just some of my favorites, so if you have any cool takes on the costume you've seen around the way, make sure to post them in the comments. If you're interested, you can find the Costume Closet on Nightwing here.

Kevin Smith Confirms MALLRATS 2

For many fans of Kevin Smith and his View Askew-niverse, Mallrats may be Smith's crowning achievement. There are definitely fans of the film out there, and you can hear them in the crowd during Smith's Hollywood Babble-On podcast (via /Film) when he confirmed that yes, a sequel is in fact on the way. The writer/director had teased the possibility late last week, but in the podcast, he speaks about the genesis of the project. Listen in starting around the 5:00 mark.

Mallrats 2: Die Hard in a Mall? Since Amazon and online shopping have largely made the very concept of malls a thing of the past, it would make sense that Smith would need to have some sort of action take place there to either keep the protagonists inside or get them there in the first place. What do you think about a Mallrats sequel? Is that something you'd be interested in seeing in, like, 2017 or whenever it would come out, or has that ship already sailed?

Awesome MORTAL KOMBAT Fan Art Features Scorpion, Sub-Zero & More

I've already gone on record saying that Mortal Kombat X looks too violent for me (which a lot of commenters found humorous), but I'm sticking to my guns on this one: even though the series is incorporating some cool elements like Jason Voorhees, I think I'll personally skip this entry when it hits platforms next month.

Still, it's tough to deny that the character designs in the game are pretty awesome, and that the look of these characters - though definitely still influenced by their 90s origins - have evolved into something pretty badass. Artist Esau Murga knows what I'm talking about, and you can check out some excellent work he's done on his DeviantArt page and below.

Here’s a shot of the four trained Raptors that have briefly been teased in the trailer for Jurassic World. These are the dinos that will help Chris Pratt’s character save the day. I’m really curious to find out how exactly Pratt’s character trained these things, and if they are actually loyal to him. I also wonder if they will eventually turn against him. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! It definitely makes for an interesting dynamic. Oh yeah! They also have names. From left to right we have Delta, Blue, Charlie, and Echo.

The CW brought the casts and crews of Arrow and The Flash together at PaleyFest 2015. While they were there they showed off a sizzle reel for each show that teased the remaining episodes of their current seasons. Both shows are set to return this week.

The Flash returns with a new episode called “Out of Time,” which is described as follows:

“Mark Mardon aka The Weather Wizard (guest star Liam McIntyre) appears in Central City intent on avenging his brother Clyde’s death, and sets his sights on Joe, who shot Clyde. When Mardon attacks Joe and Barry, Barry is able to super-speed them to safety but Mardon gets away. Barry warns Joe not to go after a meta-human alone but Joe doesn’t listen and ends up in grave danger. Meanwhile, Cisco looks into the night the team captured the Reverse Flash and realizes something doesn’t add up and begins to wonder whether Joe was right about Dr. Wells. Barry and Linda (guest star Malese Jow) end up on an awkward double date with Eddie and Iris.

Arrow's next episode is called “The Offer,” and here is its description:

“Still weighed down by his last meeting with Ra’s al Ghul (guest star Matt Nable), Oliver returns home to find a new villain and his crew have started terrorizing Starling City – Michael Amar AKA Murmur (guest star Adrian Glynn McMorran), a man whose mouth has been sewn shut. Meanwhile, Laurel and Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) bond over their issues with their fathers and Nyssa make Laurel an offer. Thea is forced to come to terms with her father after Oliver brings Malcom to the loft to recover, and Lance shuts out both Laurel and the Arrow.”

You will find the two videos below showing you what's in store in the upcoming episodes!

Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK Praised by Stephen King and His Son

As of fan of Guillermo del Toro, I can’t wait to see his upcoming gothic horror film, Crimson Peak. I’ve had the opportunity to talk to the director about the movie, and I absolutely loved what I saw in the first trailer that was released.

Horror author Stephen King and his son Joe Hill recently had the opportunity to see an early screening of the film, and they both had nothing but glowing things to say about it. As a long time fan of King’s work, I respect his opinion, and it sure does sound like Crimson Peak is going to be the ultimate Del Toro horror film that I've been waiting for.

Here’s what Hill said about the movie:

“Remember that list I tweeted the other day, the 13 most beautiful horror films. CRIMSON PEAK is the most beautiful of all.
“CRIMSON PEAK is Del Toro's blood-soaked AGE OF INNOCENCE, a gloriously sick waltz through Daphne Du Maurier territory.”

This is what King said:

“Was treated to a screening of Guillermo del Toro's new movie, CRIMSON PEAK, this weekend. Gorgeous and just fucking terrifying.”
“CRIMSON PEAK electrified me in the same way Sam Rami's EVIL DEAD electrified me when I saw it for the first time way back in the day.”

That’s some pretty epic praise from the master of horror! I guess Del Toro is pretty much finished with the film, but most of us are going to have to wait until October 16th to see the nightmarish magic for ourselves.

The movie stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, and Charlie Hunnam. Here’s the synopsis:

Legendary Pictures’ CRIMSON PEAK, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro and Callum Greene produce, and Jillian Share executive produces.

HBO has released a new preview for Game of Thrones Sseason 5, and as it shows the various characters who could take on the Iron Throne, Lord Varys is explaining to Tyrion what is required of the next ruler of Westeros. Of course, Varys is referring to Daenerys, and the spot makes that very clear at the end.

We're in for another epic season. I'm especially excited for the Sand Snakes, who are out to get revenge on the Lannisters for the death of their father. I enjoy seeing new characters introduced into the story. The next chapter begins on April 12th.

Grant Gustin Says No One Has Figured Out the Reverse Flash Twist Yet

$

I think most of us expected that there was going to be a big surprising twist involving Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and the Reverse Flash on The CW's The Flash. I've read a few theories online, but according to Grant Gustin (Barry Allen), none of the theories out there are correct.

Even though that is Cavanagh wearing the Reverse Flash, costume I refuse to believe that he is going to end up being a villain. While talking to CBR, Gustin confirmed that there's going to be a big twist we don't see coming.

"Yes. There's a twist with Harrison Wells and the Reverse-Flash storyline that no journalist has guessed -- I've never seen it online. It's going to I think really surprise everyone. And it's an original twist to the character that doesn't mess up the mythology."

He also says the twist isn't something you'll be able to figure out by reading past comic books. That tells us that the series is going to venture into unexplored territory, which is fantastic! Who knows, maybe the big twist is that he really is the villain.

I love it when these shows get inventive and deliver something the fans aren't expecting. He also talks about working with Mark Hamill, who is reprising his role as The Trickster from the original Flash series:

"It was amazing! It really was. It really was. Everyone grew up watching Star Wars. Everyone. Yes, I grew up watching Star Wars. It was surreal to meet Mark Hamill. He was amazing. He was so excited about being a part of this. He really busted his ass. No part of him just showed up and phoned it in. He delivered a really interesting character. And he's so humble and grounded and easy to talk to."

The Flash returns on March 17th, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the season plays out. If you have a theory about the Reverse Flash twist, let us know in the comments!

Psychotic JOKER Variant Comic Cover Art by Various Artists

BEN OLIVER

This June, DC Comics will be releasing a variety of variant comic book cover art featuring The Joker for several of their comics. We have 18 pieces of comic art for you to check out here, and they are all wonderfully psychotic!

The piece directly below has apparently created a bit of controversy because of some people's objection to it, and DC has cancelled it due to the artist request. The artist had this to say about it in a statement:

"My Batgirl variant cover artwork was designed to pay homage to a comic that I really admire, and I know is a favorite of many readers. 'The Killing Joke' is part of Batgirl’s canon and artistically, I couldn't avoid portraying the traumatic relationship between Barbara Gordon and the Joker.
"For me, it was just a creepy cover that brought up something from the character’s past that I was able to interpret artistically. But it has become clear, that for others, it touched a very important nerve. I respect these opinions and, despite whether the discussion is right or wrong, no opinion should be discredited.

"My intention was never to hurt or upset anyone through my art. For that reason, I have recommended to DC that the variant cover be pulled. I'm incredibly pleased that DC Comics is listening to my concerns and will not be publishing the cover art in June as previously announced."

It definitely radiates a nightmarish, creepy vibe. I don't know about you, but I've seen more offensive art and visuals in comics and movies. Check out the full collection of art and let us know what you think!

Spectacular Proof of Concept Trailer for Sci-Fi Monster Movie THE LEVIATHAN

Proof of concept trailers can be cool (see: The Raven, Deadpool, etc), but it's not every day that one comes along and absolutely blows me away. The Leviathan is a sci-fi monster movie that Oscar-nominated director Ruairí Robinson hopes to get made, and he's created this short trailer in hopes of convincing the right people that he has a strong enough vision to make it happen. He's teamed up with Fight Club screenwriter Jim Uhls, creature designer Jordu Schell (Avatar), and concept artist Jim Murray (whose work you can see in the photo above), and the result is pretty damn spectacular: it's about a bunch of people who hunt giant flying whale creatures above the clouds with laser blasters! Check this out and let us know what you think.

By the early 22nd century mankind had colonized many worlds. Faster than light travel was made possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those that take part in the hunt are mostly involuntary labor.

This is seriously the coolest freakin' fire pit I've ever seen. It's a replica of the Witch King of Angmar's head from The Lord of the Rings, and it was created by Alex Dodson of Burned By Design. He basically welded together an old propane tank and some scrap metal. It's kind of terrifying and dangerous-looking, but I love it!

Dominic Purcell Joins The CW's ARROW/FLASH Spin-Off

A few weeks ago, we wrote about how The CW is developing an untitled "superhero team-up show" that will be a spin-off of Arrow and The Flash starring Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Victor Garber, and Caity Lotz. Now Deadline reports that the network is bringing in another superhero alum to join the cast: Dominic Purcell will reprise his role as Heat Wave in the new show.

If this show goes to series (which seems likely, considering the popularity of both Arrow and The Flash as well as superhero stuff in general right now), this will be the first series regular jobs for Purcell and Miller, who famously worked together on the Fox series Prison Break. But if you're wondering if Robbie Amell, who plays the other half of Firestorm opposite Garber, will also be suiting up for this show...well, there's some bad news. Deadline says Amell "did not sign for this project," which implies that there was indeed a place for him there and he turned it down.

Either way, this spin-off show is still slated to feature three "major" DC Comics characters who have never appeared in a TV series before. That actually rules out a ton of characters, considering how many of them have popped up in small roles on shows like Smallville, The Brave and the Bold, and more. Which "major" characters are even left at this point?
