See Robert Downey Jr. Present A Bionic IRON MAN Arm to a One-Armed Fan

This might be the coolest thing you'll see all day.

A young boy named Alex was born with a partially developed right arm, and in this new video (via ScreenCrush), Robert Downey Jr. presents him with a bionic Iron Man arm that looks exactly like the one RDJ wears in the movies. The arm was designed by a college student named Albert Manero, who works with 3D printers in order to make prosthetic limbs for kids in need.

Downey goes into Tony Stark mode as soon as he meets Alex, dropping little quips and one-liners while the kid stays remarkably composed for someone who's clearly an Iron Man fan. Seeing stuff like this is so awesome, and it put a huge smile on my face. Props to Downey for taking the time to make Alex's day, and props to Manero for making something that will actually help improve Alex's day-to-day life...with some style, we might add. That new arm goes really well with that bowtie.

Four More Photos from FANTASTIC FOUR to Fuel Fan Outrage

A lot of fans are still not happy with what they are seeing from Josh Trank's Fantastic Four movie. I'm one of the few who is feeling a little optimistic about it, but the majority of the comments that I've read have just been bashing the movie. This doesn't bode well for the future of the franchise. If Marvel Studios was the one bringing it to life, fans would be overwhelmed with joy!

Thanks to 20th Century Fox, we have four more photos from the film for you to check out. There's nothing too crazy going on in any of them. They feature Reed Richards (Miles Teller), Sue Storm (Kate Mara), and Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan), who has a fire protected crew standing around him.

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 7th. Hopefully we get another trailer soon, because I am curious to see more footage from the movie.

Woody Has to Save Andy in Animated Fan Short - TOY STORY: TAKEN

This fan-made animated short film is called Toy Story: Taken. It takes place ten years after the events of Toy Story 3, and Andy has been kidnapped by a group of terrorists. Woody gathers the gang back together for one final epic adventure: a rescue mission to save Andy. "But with a small army armed to teeth standing in their way, they’re going to have to think outside the Toy box…" The video was sent in to us by Mashed, and the short is just as radical as it sounds! It's even loaded with some great one-liners. This is nowhere near the romantic comedy that Toy Story 4 is supposed to be. This is a lot more badass. Enjoy!

The New RINGS Film Will Be a Prequel to THE RING

the-new-rings-film-will-be-a-prequel-to-the-ring

Paramount Pictures is currently developing a new film in their The Ring horror film franchise. The movie will be called Rings, and in a recent report from Bloody Disgusting, it was revealed that the movie is expected to be a prequel, not a sequel as we initially thought.

According to the site's sources, Rings "takes place before the 2002 remake that starred Naomi Watts as a woman uncovering the mystery behind a haunted VHS tape. Rings will take place years before the creation of said tape and tell the origin of Samara’s reign of terror."

This is actually a story I can get behind. I love the first movie, and I'm really curious to see how this deadly evil tape actually came into existence. In the first film we learned about Samara's tragic childhood in a flashback sequence, but there's obviously more to her story and the creation of the tape.

The franchise is based on a series of Japanese films called Ringu, and in 2000 they released a movie called Ring 0: Birthday. That film takes place 30 years before their first film, and it tells the story of how Sadako (Samara) was murdered when she was 19 years old and became cursed. Who knows - maybe this next movie being made by Paramount will be based on that one.

Rings is being directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall), from a script written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. So far the only person cast in the movie is Matilda Lutz, and we don't know who she'll be playing. The movie is set to be released on November 13th, 2015, and I hope it brings on the nightmares!

Artist Coran "Kizer" Stone was curious to see what the world of Attack on Titan would be like with Batman. The piece is called "Attack on Titan: Bat Brigade," and this is the note that the artist included with it:

"What if Bats was head of his own brigade to keep those smiley ass giants out. Especially this one."

Just in case you missed it, the Titan standing behind Batman in the image is the Joker. I'd love to see a series of art like this featuring Batman fighting Titans!

Joe Carnahan To Write and Direct Action Thriller MOTORCADE

$

0

Motorcade is a script that's been bouncing around in various stages of development for over ten years. Ryan Reynolds was attached to star for 24 director Jon Cassar at one point, and the movie was almost made with Len Wiseman directing Tom Cruise around 2010. But neither of those iterations saw the light of day, and now THR reports that The Grey and The A-Team director Joe Carnahan is the latest person to take a crack at it; he's been hired to rewrite the script and direct the movie for DreamWorks.

The plot has changed a few times as different writers have come aboard, with it starting out being about terrorists attacking the President's motorcade as it drives through Los Angeles before shifting to being a story about a disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the U.S. President is kidnapped in New York. No word yet on what changes Carnahan might make to the story, but we're assuming it'll be a riff on that basic concept if the title is remaining the same.

Carnahan is an interesting filmmaker who always seems to shoot straight with fans and interviewers, and I'll be glad to see him working on a large-scale movie again. Most recently, he directed a low budget film called Stretch that ended up being mostly abandoned by Universal and had to be released straight to video instead of getting a theatrical release. It's not the greatest movie he's made, but it definitely confirms that Carnahan is an energetic, passionate director who should be working in the big leagues.

GAME OF THRONES, ENTOURAGE, and HBO's Broken Promise

$

For a while now, Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have said that the wildly successful HBO series will come to an end after seven seasons. That's been the plan for a long time, but in a new interview, programming president Michael Lombardo says that's not exactly a done deal just yet. He's still hoping to convince the showrunners to extend the series for at least another season, but he does admit he'll give in if Benioff and Weiss are adamant about their plan for the show's conclusion.

“This is the hard part of what we do. We started this journey with David and Dan. It’s their vision. Would I love the show to go 10 years as both a fan and a network executive? Absolutely.
“We’ll have an honest conversation that explores all possible avenues. If they weren’t comfortable going beyond seven seasons, I trust them implicitly and trust that’s the right decision—as horrifying as that is to me. What I’m not going to do is have a show continue past where the creators believe where they feel they’ve finished with the story.”

Seems like a pretty reasonable thing for a network executive to say, right? He obviously wants more episodes of the show because it's so popular, but at the same time, he's willing to trust the showrunners and stick with their vision. That's admirable.

One thing Lombardo isn't really excited about, though, is a Game of Thrones movie. The idea has been tossed around, and with the show already hitting theaters in a limited engagement earlier this year, it's not like it'd be the first time these characters appeared on the big screen. Lombardo continues,

“Certainly there have been conversations where it’s been said, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to do that?’ But when you start a series with our subscribers, the promise is that for your HBO fee that we’re going to take you to the end of this. I feel that on some level [a movie would be] changing the rules: Now you have to pay $16 to see how your show ends.”

I almost can't believe Lombardo would say something like that. Oh, don't get me wrong - it makes perfect sense. And it'd be great if that notion held true with all HBO programs. But that "promise" is something the network broke in a major way with back in 2011. Lombardo has held his current position as president of programming at HBO since June 2007. He's overseen the ending of multiple TV shows during his tenure there, but none have been as embarrassingly transparent as the conclusion of Doug Ellin's Entourage.

(Spoilers for the end of Entourage ahead.)

The show's entire eighth season drove major characters apart and seemed to be building to some big changes for everyone involved, but audiences never got the payoff we expected. Instead, the show gave us a rushed ending that featured the main characters all gathered at an airport, flying away without really completing what little arcs remained by that point in the show. It was a rush job, plain and simple, and there was absolutely zero satisfaction when the final credits began to roll.

The worst part about it? The show ended in 2011, but Ellin and executive producer Mark Wahlberg had been talking about making an Entourage movie for a while before that, and from a couple of interviews they gave around that time, it seems like it was their plan all along to make a movie after the show was over.

You can crap on the quality of Entourage all you want - I'm fully aware that it wasn't a great show, but that's not the point here. The point is that fans paid for a subscription to HBO, invested their time to watch eight full seasons of the show, and then were rewarded for their loyalty with the characters basically flipping everyone off as they flew off into the sunset saying, "We know you're going to pay to come see our movie finish this story, so we'll see you there, suckers!" It couldn't be a more obvious break of Lombardo's promise he mentioned regarding Game of Thrones.

Yes, it's admittedly slightly ridiculous that I'm still bitter about the finale of a show that ended four years ago. But that's just it - while we saw the last episode, it wasn't actually the finale, since the creators planned on capping off the series with a movie, shafting the fans and forcing them to pay for a ticket to see how the story really ends. It's the kind of bullsh*t move I've come to expect in today's Hollywood landscape, but with Lombardo trying to take the high road with his recent comments about how the network wouldn't do such a thing to fans of Game of Thrones, I'm wondering if he's forgotten that he and HBO took the low road not too long ago with the ending of Entourage.

Joss Whedon Talks About James Spader's "Nightmare" Experience as Ultron

As we continue to count down the days until Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters (only 49 to go!), more and more information about the movie is trickling out. In a new interview with Marvel (via their YouTube channel), writer/director Joss Whedon does a terrific James Spader impression when talking about Spader's "nightmare" experience doing motion-capture work as the villainous Ultron in the movie. It's pretty entertaining, and Whedon's impression is definitely a highlight. I wonder if he can do impressions of all of the cast members?

Video: Spock Helps Kirk and McCoy Forget The STAR WARS Prequels

Fandom can often be divided over which pop culture properties they like the best, and while DC Entertainment vs. Marvel Studios seems to be a hotly contested one right now, perhaps the granddaddy of them all comes down to Star Wars vs. Star Trek. We've seen fan-made trailers, an infographic, and heard luminaries from TV and film discuss the matter, but rarely have we seen characters from the franchises themselves deal with the rivalry.

It seems as if Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy are Star Wars fans like the rest of us, and like most adults, they'd rather forget that they ever saw the prequels. Luckily for them, Mr. Spock is here to help. Thanks to editor Drew Krotzer for sending this our way.

TITANFALL 2 Confirmed for Xbox One, PS4, and PC

Titanfall is such an insanely fun and addictive game. I'm still having a blast playing it! I'm excited to report that Respawn founder and CEO Vince Zampella has confirmed that Titanfall 2 is in development and it will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC! Here's what he said in an interview with IGN:

"I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or… yeah. So we're working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform."

I'm happy to hear that they are opening the game up to other gaming platforms. I'll still probably play it on my Xbox One, but now other gamers that don't have an Xbox One can enjoy the game's badassery. One of the things they wish they would have done with the first game is make it available to other gaming systems. But making the game exclusively for Xbox was the right choice for them at the time. Respawn COO Dusty Welch explained that it was a business decision:

"If we could do it though? It would have been prohibitive to do that - we definitely made the right choices for the right reasons - but if you're saying what would we have liked to have done? The opportunity to be multiplatform could have made it even more significant for us."

As for what we can expect to see in the sequel and what we should expect from the next game in the series, they didn't say much. They will expand the lore, though, and it's not clear if we can expect to see a single-player option. Zampella went on to discuss the multi-player approach of the first game, saying:

"I wouldn't have done it differently. We set out to do it and it was one of our goals. I mean it obviously prohibits a certain group of people playing the game, and as content creators you want to get into as many peoples's hands as possible. We put some single-player elements in there though, and tried to mix it up. Maybe we could have mixed things up a bit better because some people blew right by it and didn't even see it because there was so much action happening around it. It's tough, because if you hit people over the head with it it becomes intrusive, and there are people who don't want or care about it. Where does the needle fall? I think it takes a while to figure that out and we haven't figured it out yet."

I personally love the multi-player aspect of the game. That's just one of many factors that make Titanfall such a fun and unique gaming experience. I'm just excited to hear that a sequel is in development, and I'm looking forward to seeing what new things they bring to the franchise in terms of story and gameplay.

THE PRINCESS BRIDE Meets GAME OF THRONES in Hilarious New Mashup

Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies. It took a little while to grow on me because I saw it later in life, but after my second viewing, it became a go-to classic for me. One of my favorite pieces I've written for GeekTyrant was a write-up of Jason Reitman's Live Read for the film (which you can read all about here). Likewise, Game of Thrones is one of my favorite TV shows. So naturally, I'm going to find a mashup of the two hilarious, and this video from Todd Spence and Shawn Kohne (via Vulture) left me cracking up. I especially love the final line - it fits so perfectly with the mashup concept here and mirrors a lot of people's feelings about the brutality of Game of Thrones.

A couple of days ago it was announced that at least 20 Star Wars books would be released this year alone. That's a lot! They will range from novels for adults and teens to storybooks and stickerbooks for the kids.

All of these book will go through Lucasfilm's Star Wars story group, and they will all be considered canon alongside Star Wars Rebels, The Clone Wars, the six films in the Star Wars saga, and the new films that are coming out. You can read more about that here.

Thanks to Jedi-bibliothek.de, we have plot summaries for four of the books that will be released. One of them introduces two new characters, while another will feature Luke Skywalker's first lightsaber duel. The summaries also give us an idea of how they fit in with the rest of the universe. Here are the descriptions that we have so far:

Now on opposite sides of the war, will these two star-crossed lovers reunite, or will duty tear them–and the galaxy–apart.

Star Wars: Lost Stars also includes all-new post-Star Wars: Return of the Jedi content, as well as hints and clues about the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, making this a must-read for all Star Wars fans.

I've been seeing a ton of Spider-Gwen fan art recently, but I've been restraining myself from posting a lot of it. Otherwise there would be a piece of Spider-Gwen art on the site almost every day. I had to share this piece though! It was created by Rafael Teruel, and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to post it. This is one of the better illustrations that I've seen of the character, and I kind of just fell in love with it.

With the premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones Season 5 sneaking up on us, we’ve been seeing a lot of promotional material for it. We have seven new stunning character portraits to add thanks to Entertainment Weekly. They feature Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Jon (Kit Harrington), Arya (Maisie Williams), and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage).

In an interview with HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, he discusses taking the series beyond seven seasons, which is what was originally intended for the show. Here’s what he said:

“We’ll have an honest conversation that explores all possible avenues. If they weren’t comfortable going beyond seven seasons, I trust them implicitly and trust that’s the right decision—as horrifying as that is to me. What I’m not going to do is have a show continue past where the creators believe where they feel they’ve finished with the story.”

Obviously he would love to keep the series alive for as long as he can, but there has to be an end sometime. As sad as it is to see great shows like this end, it’s better to end on a high note when it should end, instead of dragging it out for the sake of dragging it out. Ben did a great little rant about this in an article he posted yesterday that you can read here.

In its 40 year history, there have been a lot of changes to the world's most popular role playing game. Here's why the fifth edition of Dungeon & Dragons is a big deal.

For those of you not really familiar with Dungeons & Dragons like myself, then there's definitely something here for you to learn. Check it out!

JAWS - All the Differences Between the Book and the Film

jaws-all-the-differences-between-the-book-and-the-film

Steven Spielberg's classic 1975 film Jaws was based on a book written by Peter Benchley, and it was a big hit. As you know, when adapting books for the big screen, the filmmakers developing them tend to change things up in the process to fit their artistic vision. CineFix has taken the film Jaws and created a video that shows us what exactly the difference between the book and film are. This is a fascinating watch, especially if you are one of those people out there who haven't read the book.

Steven Spielberg called dibs on adapting the book before it was released, but on the road from page to screen, a lot of things got changed. It’s still the tale of a killer great white shark terrorizing a small island community, and the three men who set sail to vanquish it… but a lot of details (and huge plot points) changed along the way. Some for creative reasons, and some to suit the realities of film production… we’ll tell you about all the differences we could find.

Have you read Peter Benchley’s book? Have you watched (or re-watched) Jaws recently? Which do you think is better: the book or the movie? Are you hearing the Jaws theme…. *Duh-DUM…)? Did we make you feel like it’s safe to go back in the water?

Hulkbuster Vs. Hulk Fight Scene Description in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

hulkbuster-vs-hulk-fight-scene-description-in-avengers-age-of-ultron

One of the most anticipated scenes in Avengers: Age of Ultron is a fight sequence between Hulk and Hulkbuster. We've already seen a good amount of footage of this scene in the trailers that have been released, but now we have a full description of how it all plays out.

The clip was shown during the Walt Disney Company's annual shareholder meeting that gave us the big Star Wars updates and the Frozen 2 announcement. The scene description comes from Stitch Kingdom, and it tells us how and why Tony Stark jumps in the Hulkbuster armor to battle Hulk. The description includes dialogue from the scene as well as some minor SPOILERS. So here we go:

The scene opens with an armored police vehicle arriving on the scene. An incredibly angry and destructive Hulk is witnessed tearing up the streets, destroying cars and spreading all-out panic. Police, heavily armed with machine guns, openly fire on the Hulk to no avail. In the distance comes Iron Man, flying at super speed to the scene. ‘Hold your fire,’ he commands to the responding teams below. He is flanked by large metal objects that speed along through the air with him, keeping up every step of the way. We cut back to the menacing Hulk and all of a sudden, a large steel (?) surfboard-shaped object slams itself down in the pavement in front of him. Then another. And another. Before you know it, Hulk is trapped inside a giant, solid metallic ‘box.’ At least, that is, until Hulk smashes free and then continues his rampage. And then, it assembles — piece by piece — the Hulkbuster, almost in Mark 42 fashion. ‘The witch is messing with your brain,’ Stark tells Hulk. ‘You’re smarter than her, you’re Bruce Banner.’ This yields an even angrier response from Hulk and it’s on. Hulkbuster vs. Hulk. The Hulkbuster usually seems to have the upper-hand, as they drag each other through the streets, tearing up the pavement. At least until Hulk ends up on the Hulkbuster’s back, impaling the shoulder with a traffic light pole. ‘Dick move, Banner’ responds Stark as they continue to fight. Then the damaged pieces of the Hulkbuster fall off and are quickly replaced with new parts. Different parts. And now Hulkbuster is atop Hulk, Stark treating Hulk’s head as a punching bag, literally pounding Hulk’s head into the pavement over and over and over (much to the amusement of the audience).‘Sleep, go to sleep’ chants Stark, but spoiler alert: it doesn’t work. Then, one of the replaced parts of the Hulkbuster, the arm missing a hand, wraps itself around Hulk’s arm and sucks him in and Iron Man takes flight, toting Hulk by the arm.

I know reading a description of an action-packed scene like this doesn't do it any justice, but it still raises my excitement level for the movie. I just can't wait to see it all play out on the big screen! The movie opens on May 1st.

Supercut of Drug Use on Film Practically Gives You A Contact High

Capturing the feeling of doing drugs is something that films have attempted to varying degrees of success for decades. It's a tough thing to be able to replicate on screen, but there have been a number of visual and aural tricks developed over the years that try to provide audiences with the sensory explosion that characters feel when they shoot heroin, snort cocaine, or smoke a joint. Editor Jorge Luengo Ruiz has put together a supercut of drug use on film, which paints a pretty disturbing picture of what life must be like for an addict. There are far more filthy floors and shards of broken glass than cool parties and amazing experiences, so I suppose you could read this video as a deterrent to doing drugs. Are your favorite drug-heavy movies represented? I appreciated that the quick video game shot of Leonardo DiCaprio from Danny Boyle's The Beach made the cut.

George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road is one film coming out this year that I am insanely excited for. This is going to be a balls to the wall action movie that looks unlike anything I've ever seen before. Thanks to Total Film, we have a few new gritty images from the film featuring Tom Hardy as Max, the "Five Wives," and Charlize Theron as a character named Furiosa. In an interview with the magazine, Theron talks about her character, saying:

“George [Miller, director] really wanted a woman to stand alongside Max, and that was all I knew, and I just thought, 'Whoa, for a woman to stand next to him in that world, that would be pretty fucking cool.' He was really kind of exploring women in this world at every age and there was something, selfishly, that I thought was almost better than Max. It's very hard for a woman to feel that way when she steps into a world like that.”

The movie hits theaters on May 15th! To watch one of the most recent trailers that has been released for Mad Max: Fury Road, click here.
