Be The Savior of the Universe With This FLASH GORDON Rolex

Flash! Ah-ahhh! He'll save every one of us!

I don't know about you, but every single time I see anything involving Flash Gordon, the immortal words of Queen pop into my head. Today's no different, as I now have the iconic theme song stuck in my head thanks to the folks at Esquire, who have unearthed a Flash Gordon Rolex watch. This thing is awesome, and the only downside is that it costs $25,000. What did you expect - it's a Rolex! There's a quick video below that shows the watch in better detail as a CGI ship flies around over it, and at the Bamford Watch Department's official website, there's also a watch inspired by The Phantom. One can only assume that Billy Zane has that one pre-ordered already, and if Sam Jones doesn't have that Flash watch, there's something wrong with the world.

AMC & Regal Theaters Plan The Ultimate Marvel Movie Marathon, Will Last Over 27 Hours

Marvel released the third trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron this morning, and if you haven't seen it yet, get on that immediately because it is magnificent. May 1st still seems so far away, but the theater owners at AMC and Regal are planning something special to take the sting out of the long wait for Marvel fans. ComingSoon reports that the theater chains are planning The Ultimate Marvel Movie Marathon leading up to the release of Age of Ultron, and there are so many Marvel Studios movies now that this event will last longer than a day - the whole thing will span more than 27 hours.

The event begins on April 29th, 2015, and concludes on April 30th with a screening of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Here's the full breakdown:

6:00pm IRON MAN
8:25pm THE INCREDIBLE HULK
10:35pm IRON MAN 2
1:00am THOR
3:10am CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER
5:30am THE AVENGERS
8:48am IRON MAN 3
11:15am THOR: THE DARK WORLD
1:45pm CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
4:20pm GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
7:00pm AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (RealD® 3D)

I imagine my brain would start to melt somewhere around the time Thor: The Dark World started, so that would be prime nap time for me if I participate in this madness. Tickets are available through AMC and Regal's websites, and if you aren't feeling up to the challenge of watching all eleven movies in a row, AMC, Regal, and Cinemark will have the option to just watch The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron back-to-back.

Have any of our readers done this in previous years? Do you plan on doing it again this year, now that there are eleven Marvel Studios movies to watch in a row?

Chris Pratt Once Kicked in a Door to Save a Fellow Actor's Child

Actor Jeremy Sisto recently went on a VH1 show called Big Morning Buzz and told a story about how a "very nice chubby little kid" ended up saving his infant child when his young daughter locked the infant in a bedroom and Sisto was too far away to do anything about it. Turns out that chubby kid was Chris Pratt, who was training for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy at the time. So it sounds like in addition to being a photobomb king and an all around nice guy who dresses up in character as Star-Lord to visit children's hospitals, Pratt is perfecting his real-life superhero skills. What can't this guy do?

Luke Evans to Play Gaston in Disney's Live-Action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

After playing bad guys in movies like Fast & Furious 6 and Dracula Untold, Luke Evans is returning to the dark side to play Gaston in Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Variety has the news, and they say that Evans is currently negotiating for the part. Emma Watson will play Belle for director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) with a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos and a rewrite by The Perks of Being A Wallflower writer/director Steve Chbosky.

Evans isn't the first name that comes to mind when I think of Gaston (someone like Dwayne Johnson would be AMAZING), but I think he has the right amount of swagger to play the role. Gaston was always my favorite Beauty and the Beast character just because of how ridiculously idiotic and over-the-top he was, and if this version is anything like how he appears in the animated classic, it should be a really fun role to play for Evans. Here's hoping he's at least as good as the guy who plays Gaston at Disney World, who destroyed someone in a push-up contest not too long ago.

69 Screenshots From the New AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer

As you know the new Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer dropped today, and it was a thing of geek beauty. I've watched the trailer multiple times since it's been released, and I even went through it frame by frame. There's just so much amazing stuff loaded into it that there's no way you'll be able to soak it all in one viewing. This sucker needs multiple viewings, and I'm sure no one is objecting to watching it more than once.

I went ahead a took a bunch of screenshots from the trailer, which coincidentally turned out to be 69. One the bigger reveals in the trailer was Tony Stark grabbing Loki's staff, which plays a big part of the story, which you can read about here. Then there's our first real look at Vision at the very end.

It's hard to pinpoint my favorite part of the trailer because they managed to pack in a ridiculous amount of awesomeness! I will say that I really enjoyed the part where Captain America throws his shield at Ultron and it gets stuck in his chest. There's a shocked and furious look in Ultron's expression when that happened. Then of course there's the destructively insane Hulk and Hulkbuster battle. I still don't think that we've seen the best parts of the movie though.

Is there anything you noticed in the trailer that you want to talk about? What was your favorite part of it!?

Warner Bros. CEO Calls DC Movies "Edgier" Than Marvel's

The battle between Marvel and DC rages on. Many fans have been strong supporters of whatever company produced the comics they grew up reading, and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy was certainly successful enough for DC fans to hold their heads high as Marvel continued its meteoric rise. But now that Zack Snyder has launched a DC Cinematic Universe with Man of Steel, it still remains to be seen how Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and its sequels are going to fare against Marvel's epic upcoming schedule. Now new shots have been fired by Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara.

The executive spoke at a telecom conference today (via Variety) and here's some of what he had to say:

“The worlds of DC are very different. They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.”

Some fans might call that a slap in the face to darker films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron (which looks pretty grim), but it's true that Batman is inherently a darker character than most of the people in the Marvel stable, and Snyder's Superman obviously isn't afraid to kill his enemies if the situation calls for it, so I suppose he has a point (so far, anyway). He also said:

“The key thing is that the movies and the television shows and the games, everything looks very different …you have to be able to take advantage of the diversity of these characters."

With WB's approach to television, it's clear that they're embracing those differences. They're keeping Arrow and The Flash separate from their big-screen worlds, and they have Gotham running alongside a developing Batman movie (and since Gotham is an origin story, don't expect any of those actors to pop up elsewhere). It's a different method than Marvel, but I'm actually glad they're branching out and trying to do things slightly differently because it would be really boring if every company approached their superhero properties in exactly the same way. Now at least we can sit back and judge it all and see which way we like this content delivered to us.

Artist Stjepan Sejic created this hilarious comic strip for your geek enjoyment called "Tony Stark - Epic Douche." In it, Pepper Potts tries on a new set of armor that Tony built for her, but she's not too pleased with his design work, especially with the "defensive plating" feature that he had installed.

Dan Stevens Cast as The Beast in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Yesterday we learned that Luke Evans would be playing the villain Gaston in Disney’s live-action version of Beauty and the Beast. THR now reports that Dan Stevens (The Guest, Downton Abbey) is in negotiations to join the production. If cast, he will play the Beast/Prince in the story. Stevens will star alongside Emma Watson, who is playing Belle in the film.

Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) is directing the film, which is one of many live-action adaptations that Disney is developing. The next fairy tale film to be released by the studio is Cinderella, which opens on March 13th. So far I’ve been hearing nothing but positive feedback on the film.

The casting for Beauty in the Beast is pretty solid. These are all great actors, and I’m curious to see how their characters will all be portrayed on the big screen. Stevens has definitely got that Prince look and charm, as well as beastly intensity. I assume he’ll do motion capture work for Beast. Evans is pretty easy to imagine as Gaston. He may not have the burliness of the animated version of the character, but he’s definitely got the attitude. As for Watson as Belle... well, she’s perfect.

Jean-Claude Van Damme Fights With MY LITTLE PONY in Epic Video

You’ve got to watch this ridiculously badass My Little Pony video that features action star Jean-Claude Van Damme fighting alongside them. In it, he visits Equestria to help the ponies defeat the evil queen. The video was made using all of the green screen elements that the actor put online for anyone to use. This is definitely one of the more entertaining video edits that I’ve seen.

Pixar’s INSIDE OUT Has a New Poster

Disney released a new poster for Pixar’s funny looking new animated film Inside Out. It features all of the emotion characters that play a part in the story.

The movie is being directed by Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up), and I suspect that we’ll see another trailer for the film soon. The unique story takes audiences inside of one of the most complicated places that exists… the human mind.

As cute as this story is, I can also see the concept being twisted into a crazy horror film. Someone should definitely do that.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

The movie will be released on June 19th.

Iron Man Has the Upper Hand in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Fan Poster

We still have a ways to go before Captain America: Civil War hits the big screen, but that isn’t stopping fans from creating really cool fan art. This one comes from artist Jean Pierre Llanos Garcia, and as you can see, Tony Stark has the upper hand in the fight.

Following the events of the Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers cause two factions that side with Iron Man (pro registration) or side with Captain America (anti registration) which causes an epic conflict between former allies.

Age of Ultron is going to play a big role in what we see happen in Civil War. You can check out the latest trailer for the movie here, along with a bunch of screenshots from it here

It’s going to be incredible to see these two characters go head to head in Civil War. I’ve been pretty vocal about my support for Captain America, but which side do you fall on?

LUKE CAGE Star Says Marvel's Series Will Be Made for an Adult Audience

Mike Colter, the actor who is taking on the title role in Marvel's upcoming series Luke Cage, recently talked to IGN and talked about a few things. He discussed his excitement for playing the character and also said that the series is going to made for adult audiences. He started off saying,

"It's geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that you've seen before on the big screen.”

We've heard people say similar things regarding Daredevil, and I image that the other Netflix series being developed, A.K.A. Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, will be the same way. These are all dark characters who live in a dark world, so it makes sense that this would be the tone of the series. Discussing his excitement about the story, he said,

"I'm excited about playing the character because I've read the comic books. They're very detailed, gritty; the world they've written in the comic books is very clear. Marvel does a fantastic job about bringing human stories – because you're telling big stories with a heart at the centre of it – and that's what connects all of the characters to our audience members. Audience members have to feel connected with these characters, to make them relate to the character's situations and that's what you see with all of the Marvel characters."

He went on to talk about his eagerness to play the character, saying,

"What I’m most excited about is touching on what makes him tick. It feels good to get a character that has such a story, background, and history. And when I look at the scripts, I’m really pleased with it because it’s a slow-burn; there’s nothing happening really fast that gets ahead of itself. I’m really with where they’re taking it and how they’re developing the characters, because it’s really cool and it’s geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe you’ve seen before on the big screen.
"We have a more gritty, focused story on our heroes and characters that live in New York City, but it’s geared towards a more adult audience and I think that’s the thing about the series that will be different."

The series is still in pre-production, andso we haven;t seen anything from it yet.. I like what I’m hearing from Colter, though. It sounds like it’s going be another solid addition to the Marvel cinematic universe. I'm curious to see how far they actually plan on taking the darkness.

Review: Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE Is Disappointing

review-neil-blomkamps-chappie-was-disappointing

Before I begin, let me tell you how much I love Neill Blomkamp. I love Blomkamp a lot. He is one of the most creative minds working in Hollywood today. District 9 is one of my all time favorite films, and Elysium was in my opinion another piece of incredible work by a very talented man. I love him so much so that when I first became a writer with GeekTyrant I went under the pseudonym Wikus to honor the protagonist in District 9. So knowing that, I hope you understand how painful this review is for me to write.

For those of you who don't know, Chappie is about the first sentient robot ever, how he navigates a crime-ridden Johannesburg, and how a few individuals within the city deal with his existence.

I had high hopes for Chappie but those all came crashing down 30 minutes into the film. As you may know, Blomkamp cast the rap duo Die Antwoord for the film because he is a huge fan. This was mistake number one. Just because you're a huge fan of a musician and have the ability to make a film doesn't mean you should cast them in it. They overacted on such an insane level it made what should have been heartfelt or serious scenes incredibly campy and laughable. On top of that, the plot is set into motion by a plan the duo cook up that would have failed in any other reality.

Sharlto Copley gives an amazing "poor man's motion capture" performance as Chappie but is undermined by his two obnoxious costars. There is a weird amorality that is present throughout the film, which makes it incredibly hard to root for anybody, and I never found myself rooting for Chappie as much as I felt bad for him, as Die Antwoord basically take advantage of him throughout the entire film. This amorality is so prevalent that I found myself rooting against the two main characters. I just wanted them off screen!

Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, and Dev Patel are all very underutilized in the film, which was really sad. Jackman has an intensity as a villain that goes unmatched in the film, but he's only given a handful of scenes to express it. Weaver has about three scenes as the executive of the robotics company, and she doesn't have all that much to do. Patel plays Chappie's creator, but he and Chappie barely interact. He is given a background role as Die Antwoord remain in the spotlight unnecessarily. I'm a fan of some of their music, but I certainly hope this is not the start of their film career.

The movie was marketed wrong in my opinion, as the tagline "Humanity's Last Hope isn't Human" is a misrepresentation of the scope of the film. Humanity is never on the brink of annihilation, nor is there some world-changing conflict. Most of the world doesn't even know of Chappie's existence.

The aesthetic of the film is very much in line with Blomkamp's previous two films, and I really did enjoy the visuals of the film, as well as the score by Hans Zimmer, but the plot doesn't move forward for most of the movie, and the action scenes are few and far between. I hope this is just a bump in the road for Blomkamp. I am still psyched to see what he does with the Alien franchise, but until then I'm left with Chappie, and that doesn't feel too great.

HAPPY GILMORE's Adam Sandler and Bob Barker Fight Again in Hilarious Video

Watching Bob Barker beat the living hell out of Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore was one of the funniest highlights of the movie. Well, the feud still rages on, and in a recent video that was shown during a segment from Comedy Central's Night of Too Many Stars special, the two teamed back up to give fans another epic brawl.

I never thought that I'd ever see them duke it out again, but here they are in all their glory kicking each other's asses! It's absolutely fantastic, and it's hilarious to see how far the battle escalates, and there are some great insults thrown in there as well. This is probably the best thing that I'll see all day.

Stephen King's IT Film Is Looking for the Perfect Pennywise Clown

$

True Detective director Cary Fukunaga has been in the process of developing a big screen adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror story IT for the big screen. The story will be split into two films. One will focus on the main characters as kids, the other will focus on those characters as adults. I really trust that this guy knows what he's doing and that he's going to give us a hell of a great film adaptation.

In a recent interview with the Brazilian newspaper O Globo (via: Bloody-Disgusting), Fukunaga talked about the project and revealed that he's actually been developing it for several years. At one point he scrapped everything and started from scratch.

“I’ve been in this project for about five years. I had already read versions of the script but nothing felt right. Everybody tried to put too much into it, telling it from the perspective of the adult and the child in a two hour movie. It didn’t fit. So I decided to throw it all away and start from scratch."

I didn't realize he had been working on getting this movie made for that long! The guy is obviously committed and ready to move it forward. He says that he's currently in the process of trying to cast the perfect actor in the role of the evil clown Pennywise.

“This will be my first movie in the US and I’m still trying to find the perfect guy to play Pennywise."

It's going to be really hard to find someone who will be better than Tim Curry, who played the character in the 1990s TV movie. He really was the perfect Pennywise, but I'm sure there's someone else out there that will give us another terrifying imagining. I really hope they cast someone great in the role, someone who will WOW the fans.

The director went on to reveal that the movie will not take place in the 1960s like the original story. He also says that they changed some of the characters names as well.

"It’s really good to know Stephen [King] likes what we did. We (Fukunaga and writers David Kajganich and Chase Palmer) changed names, dates (the story is originally set in the 60′s) dynamics, but the spirit is similar to what he’d like to see in cinemas, I think.”

That's really interesting. I was really hoping that they would stick with the original setting, but if it's not going to be the 60s, I do hope that they kids version of the story will at least be set in the 1980s, because that could be really cool too. It would also allow for them to have the adult part of the story set in present day.

I know this might rub fans of the novel the wrong way, but Fukunaga is a huge fan of this story, and I don't think he's going to let fans down. On top of that, he has King's full support!

The story follows seven outcast kids known as “The Loser Club,” who are forced to fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. 30 years later, they are called back to fight the monster again.

Who do you think would make a good Pennywise? I'm just going to throw Tom Hiddleston's name out there because he would be awesome in the role.

This Deleted BACK TO THE FUTURE Scene is Incredibly Awkward

Apparently this deleted scene has been floating around on the internet for a while, but it's currently making the rounds online, and this is the first time I've ever seen it.

The scene features a super awkward conversation between Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) about how weird it is for Marty that he has to hit on his mom, who has a crush on him. Doc doesn't seem like it's too much of a big deal, and amusingly encourages Marty to take a "few liberties" with her, and then gives Marty a creepy wink that had me laughing. Marty replies to that with, "I can't believe I'm going to feel up my own mother," and then expresses his concern for how this is the kind of thing that could screw him up in the future, using an example that it could end up turning him gay. That line is raising some eyebrows as being homophobic and offensive.

One of the funniest elements of the clip is how Doc misinterprets a lot of the "modern" terms that Marty uses. For example when Marty says "hitting on her," Doc says, "No one said anything about hitting her!" As for the gay line, Marty says "What if I go back to the future and end up being gay?" This sets up the following punchline for Doc: "Why shouldn't you be happy!?"

Ultimately I can see why the scene was cut. It's such an extremely weird conversation. Watch it for yourself and let us know what you think!

International Trailer for DARK PLACES, Starring Charlize Theron

Author Gillian Flynn made quite a splash last year when she wrote the screenplay for Gone Girl, which was based on her own best-selling novel. David Fincher directed the film, and it ended up being 2014's twistiest thriller. Flynn has teased the idea of writing a sequel to the novel one day, but while fans wait for that, there's already another film adaptation of one of her books on the way.

The Playlist points us to the international trailer for Dark Places, which has a heck of a cast: Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Christina Hendricks, Corey Stoll, Tye Sheridan, and Chloë Grace Moretz, just to name a few. Here's the synopsis of the book:

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas.” She survived—and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club—a secret society obsessed with notorious crimes—locates Libby and pumps her for details. They hope to discover proof that may free Ben. Libby hopes to turn a profit off her tragic history: She’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club—for a fee. As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started—on the run from a killer.

Gilles Paquet-Brenner directed the film, which apparently finished production a couple of years ago and has been sitting on a shelf ever since, but A24 picked it up, and now it's getting a release overseas. Dark Places opens in France on April 8th, but it still doesn't have a U.S. date planned yet. Take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think.

This cool Batman print was created by artist Mr. Garcin, and he used several pieces of Batman comic book art to create the portrait of the Caped Crusader. I also included one of the Joker called "Vote for Me," which was created in a different style by Fugscreens.

These are officially licensed limited edition prints that comes with certificate of authenticity. They were produced in conjunction with French Paper Art Club and Geek-Art. They're available for purchase here along with some other Batman art that you might like.
