Hugh Jackman is Open to Wolverine Cameo in DEADPOOL Movie

hugh-jackman-is-open-to-wolverine-cameo-in-deadpool-movie

A lot of fans were disappointed with Wolverine and Deadpool's first feature film onscreen appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, I really did enjoy their appearance together in the Hulk vs. Wolverine animated film. It's kind of sad that Marvel isn't making animated movies like that anymore.

Anyway, in an interview with MTV UK, Hugh Jackman is asked if he would be open to the idea of making a cameo in the Deadpool movie that is currently in development. After he explained how he's good friends with Ryan Reynolds, and discussing the relationship between the two characters, he said that he would definitely be "open to that idea."

There's no word of if director Tim Miller even wants to include the character, but if he does, it looks like he could get Jackman on board to reprise his role. In a previous interview that Jackman gave, he said that he would like to play Wolverine until he dies if he can. It's already been revealed that Colossus would be included in the film, so if they wanted to include any other characters, then Wolverine would make complete sense.

BATMAN-Themed Hotel Room in Taiwan

Let's face it: unless you're a billionaire yourself, you can't afford to live exactly like Bruce Wayne/Batman. But how much would you pay to stay in a decked out Batcave? According to The Daily Mail, a hotel in Taiwan called The Eden Motel is charging about $60 per three hours to stay in its Batman-themed room, which admittedly does look like a pretty cool place to hang out for a while if you're a huge fan of The Dark Knight.

The Eden also has rooms dedicated to Sherlock Holmes, The Mummy, Alcatraz, and more, but it's the Batman room that draws the most requests from guests. No surprise there. Any of you hardcore Bat-fans out there planning a trip to Taiwan specifically to stay in this room?

First Photo of Vincent D'Onofrio as The Kingpin in DAREDEVIL

Thanks to USA Today and Marvel, we have our first real look at Vincent D'Onofrio as The Kingpin in Netflix's Daredevil series. We got a tease of the back of the character in a set of photos that were released last week, which you can check out here. The actor talked about the character and how he will portray him in an interview, saying:

"I just brought in this kind of character who in one sentence could easily go from being a child to a monster, depending on where his emotions take him. "

He later said:

"I wanted him to have an appearance of being super-powerful so that when he throws a punch, it's a major punch. There's a lot of weight behind it."

When I found out that D'Onofrio was cast in this villain role, I thought he was a great choice. He definitely looks the part, and I think he's going to destroy it. I mean that in the best possible way!

Marvel’s Daredevil” is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

Daredevil premieres on Netflix on April 10th. What do you think of D'Onofrio's look in the series?

Original WHIPLASH Short Film, Starring Oscar Winner J.K. Simmons

Damien Chazelle's Whiplash was my favorite film of 2014, and one of my favorite movies of the past ten years. It's a peek into the kinds of crazy, brutal sacrifices that must be made to achieve greatness, and the sometimes unorthodox methods that can push us to become our best selves. There's a lot to unpack in the film, and hopefully the fact that it won three Oscars a couple of weeks ago (including a well-deserved win for Best Supporting Actor J.K. Simmons) means that more people will give it a chance and seek it out.

Some of you probably know that Whiplash is actually based on a short film that Chazelle put together that played at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. That short starred Simmons in the same role as jazz professor Terrence Fletcher, but Miles Teller didn't come on board until the short was adapted into a full length feature film. So who played the young Andrew Neiman in the short? Funny enough, it was another guy with the last name of Simmons: Johnny Simmons, who you may recognize as Young Neil from Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Screencrush has found a legal version of the original short (with Spanish subtitles) on YouTube, so you can now compare and contrast the younger Simmons' work with Teller's and get a sense for how this project got its start. Watch the full short below:

Drew Goddard Reportedly Writing & Directing New SPIDER-MAN Movie

Are you ready, Spider-fans? Ever since it was announced that Marvel and Sony would be bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and then producing a new standalone Spider-Man movie, we've been wondering what would happen to Drew Goddard's Sinister Six movie he's been working on. Well, Latino-Review spoke with one of their sources at Sony, and the source says that Goddard will be the man to write and direct the new Spidey standalone movie.

This is great news for fans of Goddard's work (if you haven't seen The Cabin in the Woods, get on that immediately!), and it makes a lot of sense. Goddard was working with Marvel on Daredevil before he jumped into the Spider-Man universe, so it's clear he has a lot of love for the character. Plus, he's been living and breathing these characters for months already, so he's a solid choice to bring this new movie to life.

The report says there is talk of calling the movie The Spectacular Spider-Man, and they reveal a few more key pieces of information about the direction Sony is taking the character:

  • No new origin story, Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given
  • New actor, probably an unknown, he will be specifically based in High School and they want him to be able to grow up into the role.  The thought being if this works, Spidey can do multiple trilogies for years ala Harry Potter.
  • A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers
  • The first film will involved the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off.

Spider-Man fighting Iron Man? Whoa! That seems to give a pretty clear idea of whose side Spidey will be on when we first see him next year in Captain America: Civil War.

The Maze Runner star Dylan O'Brien was reportedly in contention for the lead role, but this report indicates that the studio is looking for someone even younger than O'Brien. And then there was the recent rumor that Spider-Man wouldn't be white - which lead many to assume they were looking at bringing a Miles Morales Spider-Man to the big screen for the first time. As of now, we don't have any more details about casting, but with Civil War coming up relatively soon, we expect more casting rumors to start pouring out over the next few months.

What do you think about all of this? Is Goddard the right guy for the job?

Hardcore POWER RANGERS Short Back Online with Behind-the-Scenes Video

Director Joseph Kahn's R-rated Power/Rangers short film blew up last week online, and a lot of fans loved what they saw in it. Of course there were some other fans of the franchise that didn't care for it, and Saban Entertainment didn't seem happy with it either because they ended up having it pulled off the internet. (Listen to our podcast episode talking all about it right here.)

Well, the short is back up online for you to watch! The creators of it made a deal with Saban, which owns the rights to Power Rangers. The videos now includes extensive disclaimers noting that they present a fan film, which was made without any affiliation from Saban, and claim no rights to the characters.

Along with the short comes a "making of" behind-the-scenes video that shows off some cool footage from the set. I wish it would have included some interviews with the people involved talking about it. I've also included the newly released short film as well in case you missed it the first time around.

Ethan Hawke Joins THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Remake

A Training Day reunion is brewing.

Variety reports that Ethan Hawke is joining his former co-star Denzel Washington in director Antoine Fuqua's remake of the western The Magnificent Seven. Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is also on board, along with The Equalizer's Haley Bennett.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the initial draft of the screenplay, and since then John Lee Hancock has rewritten it. The original movie followed a group of seven gunfighters who help protect a Mexican village from bandits. It's a classic that featured some of the best actors working at the time (along with one of the best themes ever), and it seems like Fuqua is aiming high for his remake. It should be fun to see Pratt mix it up with the veteran actors. I can easily see Hawke and Washington as two of the grizzled good guys, but wouldn't it be fun if Pratt was playing the leader of the bandits instead of one of the heroes?

This is one remake I'm actually looking forward to, and I'd be interested to hear what you all think in the comments below.

Patrick Warburton Plays An Action Hero in This EDGE OF TOMORROW-Style Short Film

I don't know about you, but I loved Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow. The film used a Groundhog Day-esque approach to storytelling, having Tom Cruise's character relive the same day until he ultimately became a badass soldier. Now there's a new short film that puts Seinfeld star Patrick Warburton in the lead role of a loose cannon cop who gets killed dozens of times while trying to save a hostage from a group of bad guys.

It's called The Action Hero's Guide to Saving Lives, and it comes from the mind of director Justin Lutsky. The short comically skewers some of the most ridiculous action movie cliches in the vein of Last Action Hero, and it reminds me that I'd like to see Warburton appear in more mainstream films. I believe he's reprising his role from Ted in the upcoming sequel, so that's probably the closest we'll get to seeing him on the big screen for a little while. After seeing this, though, maybe someone will cast him as a lead in a cop movie. For more, including some behind-the-scenes photos, check out the short's official website.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, SENSE8 & More Get Netflix Premiere Dates

It's only been about a month since I caught up with all of Orange is the New Black, and I've been wanting new episodes so I can binge-watch the crap out of them. Now I know exactly how long I have to wait: Netflix has announced a series of premiere dates for a few of their upcoming shows, along with an official synopsis of The Wachowskis' bizarre-sounding new drama.

Sense8, the latest project from Andy and Lana Wachowski, will debut on June 5th, and The Playlist has the new synopsis:

One gunshot, one death, one moment out of time that irrevocably links eight minds in disparate parts of the world, putting them in each other's lives, each other's secrets, and in terrible danger. Ordinary people suddenly reborn as "Sensates."

I've heard there are supposed to be live births and crazy orgies (among many other things) on this show, and it sounds absolutely nuts. As a fan of the filmmakers, here's hoping it's better received than Jupiter Ascending.

Meanwhile, Orange is the New Black season 3 will premiere on June 12th, 2015. I'm stoked, and in case you missed the news a little while ago, we won't be seeing Jason Biggs' Larry character any time soon.

And finally, we'll have to wait a little longer for the prequel series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, which is slated to premiere about a month later on July 17th, 2015. The first teaser listed out a ton of A-list talent that will be coming back to reprise their roles from the original, and this definitely has the potential to be legendary. But will it suffer the same fate as Arrested Development season 4, being too hyped and carrying expectations that are too heavy for it to bear? We'll soon find out.

Sam Rockwell Dances His Way Through a Diner in New Music Video

If you're a fan of Sam Rockwell, you've probably noticed that the actor has some pretty slick dance moves. He's busted a move in a bunch of his movies - Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Charlie's Angels, Iron Man 2, and The Way Way Back, just to name a few.

Now, much like his Seven Psychopaths co-star Christopher Walken, Rockwell can be seen dancing in a music video. Rockwell is front and center in the new video for Down to Earth, from the band Flight Facilities. I'd never heard them before, but putting a dancing Sam Rockwell in your music video is a guaranteed way to get my attention, and since I enjoy watching him dance so much, I figured I'd pass this along to you guys as well. Thanks to The Film Stage for the find.

Steven Spielberg to Direct Jennifer Lawrence in IT'S WHAT I DO

$

It somehow seemed inevitable that Steven Spielberg would eventually direct Jennifer Lawrence in a movie, and now the wheels are in motion for that collaboration to happen.

Deadline reports that Spielberg will direct Lawrence in It's What I Do, a movie based on war photographer Lynsey Addario's memoir It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life Of Love And War. Here's the official synopsis of the book from The Penguin Press:

Lynsey Addario was just finding her way as a young photographer when September 11 changed the world. One of the few photojournalists with experience in Afghanistan, she gets the call to return and cover the American invasion. She makes a decision she would often find herself making—not to stay home, not to lead a quiet or predictable life, but to set out across the world, face the chaos of crisis, and make a name for herself.

Apparently Spielberg and Lawrence beat out a bunch of other big names in an auction, with Warner Bros. coming on board to distribute the movie. Working Title wanted it for Reese Witherspoon, Darren Aronofsky had it in mind for Natalie Portman, The Weinstein Company wanted George Clooney and Grant Heslov's company to take it, and Focus star Margot Robbie was in the mix, too. Those are big names, but it doesn't get any bigger than a collaboration between Spielberg and Lawrence right now. It remains to be seen exactly when this movie will go before cameras - they're both insanely busy, in case you haven't noticed - but this could be a big movie for both of them.

TRON: LEGACY Director in Talks to Take on GRAN TURISMO Film

$

Troy: Legacy and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is in talks to helm the big screen adaptation of Sony PlayStation’s hit racing video game Gran Turismo. I’ve been a fan of this game franchise for years, and I think it has potential to be a cool movie if it's done right.

The Fast and the Furious franchise has been doing very well for itself, which is obviously why Sony is looking to get this Gran Turismo film into production. The other hit racing game, Need For Speed, got an adaptation that starred Aaron Paul, and while it was fun to watch, it was also pretty forgettable.

According to THR, Kosinski has been looking to take on a racing film project for some time. He was previously developing a film called Go Like Hell at Fox, which tells the true story of the battle between Ford and Ferrari to win Le Mans in 1966. Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were looking to join that production, but the project fell apart, and Kosinski dropped out. Looks like the director will have another opportunity at a racing flick

The game’s lead designer, Kazunori Yamauchi, has said that the plot will follow a video game player who becomes a racer. Watchmen writer Alex Tse had been hired to provide the screenplay, but the current script for the film will be completely rewritten, and Kosinski will be overseeing its development.

Kosinski is a great visual and technical director, and it will be interesting to see what his vision for this film will be if he officially becomes attached to the project. There’s no doubt the movie will look great, but the director has had issues with story and script in his first two movies. The guy has obviously got something brewing in his head on how he would tackle a racing movie. It’d be cool if he delivered a racing movie unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.

What are your thoughts on Kosinski taking on Gran Turismo

JAMES BOND: IN SERVICE OF NOTHING - Bootleg Film from POWER/RANGERS Producer

The same producer who brought us that awesome R-rated "Power/Rangers" fan film, Adi Shankar, didn't wait long to release his latest bootleg project. It features 007, and it's called "James Bond: In Service of Nothing." The film is presented as a pre-visulation motion storyboard, so it's pretty rough, but still really cool.

The Unauthorized "Bootleg Universe" One-Shot features an aging James Bond struggling "to find his place in a self absorbed world without boarders, where service to one's nation is an antiquated concept." Shankar said this about his project in a statement:

"I always wondered what would happen to James Bond in his old age and in our borderless world. I'm not referring to the Bond we've seen in recent films, that incarnation is closer to Jason Bourne meets Batman. I'm referring to the swanky, alcoholic, serial killer, with mommy issues that we saw in films like Dr. No and Goldfinger. How would he find a sense of purpose in a self absorbed and impersonal modern world once his license to kill has been revoked?"

This is an incredibly interesting representation of Bond. It's something we've never seen done before, and I really like how it turned out. I know we'll never see anything like this as an actual movie, but we do have this, and it would be awesome to see this short as a live action short.

James Gunn Will Introduce His Favorite Character in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

There are a ton of great characters that were introduced in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but we still haven't seen director James Gunn’s favorite. Don’t worry, though, he will be introducing this mystery character in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Gunn knows the story he wants to tell, and he’s currently in the process of writing the script. Marvel thinks that the idea he’s developing is “risky,” which is a really good sign that it will be another great movie. Hell, everything about the first film was risky, but it certainly paid off.

Gunn was answering fan questions on Twitter recently, and when asked if he had a favorite superhero he would want to bering to the big screen, he replied with, “And will do so in GotG2.”

He didn’t elaborate on who that character would be, so we're left to speculate at this point. When asked if he could offer any clues on who it would be, he did tell us who it wouldn’t be, and that is Richard Rider, who is an Earth-born hero that was enlisted into Nova Corps at an early age to succeed Rhomann Dey, who was played by John C. Reilly in the first movie.

Gunn previously said that Nova would not appear in the film, so we can count him out as well. Unless he was just being tricky with us. He has said that Peter Quill’s dad will be revealed in the story, but we don’t know who that will be from the Marvel universe, because it won’t be the same character in the comics.

He was later asked which Marvel character he wishes he could reclaim the rights to so they could appear in his films, and Gunn said, "ROM Spaceknight!" It's obviously a character that he would love to work with, but if Marvel doesn't own the rights to him, who knows if that's even option. What's interesting about Rom is that the character wasn’t created by Marvel Comics. He was licensed to the publisher from Parker Brothers who had acquired the rights of the character from its original creators. The ROM: Spaceknight comic series ran for 75 issues over an eight-year span until the rights reverted back in 1986.

I’d take a guess that this character is a strong female, as Gunn has said there will be at least two new female characters added to the team. So I’m going with either Mantis, Moondragon, Phyla-Vell, or Angela. I personally hope that it’s Angela, who was created by Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane for Spawn. She’s now a part of the Marvel comics universe, so he could use her if he wants. She is also the daughter of King Odin of Asgard, so that could easily connect her with he rest of the MCU. It was also rumored at one point that she was involved with the first film, but then it didn’t happen. Maybe he is saving her for a good strong female role in the sequel. I guess we’ll just have to wait an see.

Who do you think the character could be?

This weekend I was able to attend the 2015 Long Beach Comic Expo, and there was some really cool cosplay there on display. Thanks to photographer Davann Srey, I have a great collection of photos to share with you showing off some of the costumes that I saw at the convention. I took a few photos myself, but they didn't turn out as well as these. (I did take the above photo featuring Spider-Ock. That wasn't in the photographers collection.) I also included the names of the cosplayers and links to their websites if they have them. Enjoy the photos!

THE WALKING DEAD Season 5 Episode 13 Promo and Sneak Peek - “Forget”

Damn! The craziest thing about the last episodes of The Walking Dead was seeing Rick Grimes shave off that gnarly beard he has been growing. I’ve gotta say, I like this Alexandria place where they have ended up, and I really hope that it works out for them. I know it won’t, but I have to keep the hope alive. I also have to say, though, that I don’t really care for those two jerk-asses who are in charge of scouting for food and supplies. I'm sure they'll eventually end up dead. The next episode is called “Forget,” and this is the brief plot summary:

As Rick and the others continue to acclimate to their new surroundings, they consider a return to normalcy.

It looks like this might get the closest they ever come to normalcy, before it’s all shot to hell. Checkout a promo trailer and two clips from the next episode below.

Alex Garland's Ex Machina is one of my most anticipated films of 2015, and A24 has just released the first official U.S. trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller. It reveals more footage than we've seen in previous trailers, and also hints at more nefarious motivations for Oscar Isaac's character that I didn't glean from our other looks at this movie so far. I love this movie's premise, and I can't wait to see what Garland - the writer behind 28 Days Later, Dredd, Never Let Me Go, and more - does in his directorial debut.

Ex Machina premieres at this year's SXSW Film Festival on March 14th, and then opens in U.S. theaters on April 10th. Looking forward to this one?
