Must Watch Breathtakingly Beautiful Trailer for SAMSARA

The world we live in is such an amazing place, and there are places I will never go to or get to see in person. Seeing these places in the movies might just be the closest I ever get to some of these places, so it's just another reason we can be thankful for the art of filmmaking.

You're about to watch a stunning trailer to an insanely beautiful looking documentary called Samsara, which explores “the links between humanity and the rest of nature.” It was directed by Ron Fricke (Baraka) who shot the entire film using epic 70mm photography. This looks like an incredible film, and I'm excited about seeing it.

Here's the Synospis:

Prepare yourself for an unparalleled sensory experience. SAMSARA reunites filmmakers Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson, whose award-winning films BARAKA and CHRONOS brought a new visual and musical artistry to theaters. Dispensing with dialogue and descriptive text, SAMSARA explores the wonders of our world, from the mundane to the miraculous, looking into the unfathomable reaches of man’s spirituality and the human experience, and illuminating the links between humanity and the rest of nature.

This is a trailer that must watched be in HD, and you can do that over at Apple. The movie will be released on August 24th, 2012. After you watch the trailer, let us know the most beautiful place in the world you've been.

Hilarious Fake Movie Poster for HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPOS

Check out this hilarious piece of poster for for a fake movie adaptation of the classic game Hungry Hungry Hippos. It would have made a great movie mashup with Peter Berg's Battleship. I think Battleship would have been an even better film with giant hippos as the main threat instead of aliens. What do you think of the poster design? Would you watch this movie?

Did Suzanne Collins Rip Off Pokemon?!

Of course Reddit has found another weird cross reference between pop-culture, and this one actually has me wondering. Check it out below.

Pretty cool, although unlike Battle Royale (boom roasted), I think this reference is purely coincidental as a result of utilizing the 3 primary colors. I will say though the Catching Fire one is spot on. Did you ever catch the legendary birds? I thought they were kind of a waste truthfully. They were no Blastoise, that's for sure.

Stan Lee Drilled By Reporter About Why Jack Kirby Isn't Credited in THE AVENGERS

Let's get one thing straight before you go through this interview in which Stan Lee is drilled by a reported from Moviefone about why Jack Kirby isn't credited in The Avengers... Jack Kirby actually is credited in the film as a co-creator. I can't help but think that this guy feels like a total jackass, after finding out later that Kirby was actually credited. If you're going to go after someone like this, make sure you do your homework first. At the same time, you'd think Stan would have known and just said, yeah... he's credited as a co-creator, but I guess he wasn't really prepared for the question either. It really gets uncomfortable, the guy just wouldn't stop pressing him. I know there's a lot of legal mumbo jumbo surrounding all of this stuff, but of course Marvel is going to credit Kirby for his contribution to these comics.

Here's how it went down...

Fans of Jack Kirby are concerned that his name appears nowhere on the credits of "The Avengers." What's your take on their concern?

I don't know how to answer that because in what way would his name appear?

His name isn't mentioned anywhere in the film production as a co-creator.

Well it's mentioned in every comic book; it says "By Stan Lee and Jack Kirby."

But it doesn't appear for the film itself; and his fans feel he should get that recognition, with the movie exposing his work to a whole new audience.

I know, but you're talking to the wrong guy because I have nothing to do with the credits on the movies. I'm credited as one of the executive producers because that's in my contract. But Jack was not an executive producer. So I don't know what he'd be credited as. Again I know nothing about that, I have nothing to do with the movie's credits. You'd have to talk to whoever is the producer of the movie. Is there anything you want to ask me about the documentary because I thought that's what I was supposed to be talking about.

What do you think about this little question and answer exchange between the reporter and Lee?

First Photo from Ang Lee's LIFE OF PI

Here is the first photo from Ang Lee's adaptation of Yann Martel's Life of Pi. The bestselling novel was first released in 2001 and won the Man Booker Prize. Suraj Sharma beat out over 3,000 actors for the lead role. The supporting cast includes Irrfan Khan as the grown-up Pi, Adil Hussain and Tabu as Pi’s parents, Gérard Depardieu as “The Chef,” and Tobey Maguire as a journalist named — surprise — Yann Martel.

Synopsis:

Pi Patel is an unusual boy. The son of a zookeeper, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior, a fervent love of stories, and practices not only his native Hinduism, but also Christianity and Islam. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes.

The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days lost at sea. When they finally reach the coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities who interrogate Pi refuse to believe his story and press him to tell them “the truth.” After hours of coercion, Pi tells a second story, a story much less fantastical, much more conventional-but is it more true?

Life of Pi arrives in theaters on December 21. If the rest of the film has this visual style, then I am interested in seeing this on the big screen. I am sure that this will have audiences flocking to theaters in droves over the holidays.

Have you read the book, and are you looking forward to seeing this in theaters?

Justin Lin To Direct and Produce CHINGLISH

Justin Lin is changing directions for his next project. THR reports that the Fast and Furious director has acquired movie rights to David Henry Hwang‘s stage play Chinglish. Hwang will pen the screenplay for the adaptation, which is about an American businessman in China. Lin will produce the movie under his Barnstorm Pictures, which has a first-look deal at Universal.

The play debuted at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre in 2011, and then headed to Broadway soon after. An international tour will kick-off at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre this fall.

Here is what Lin had to say about the project:
As soon as I saw Chinglish on Broadway, I began to envision this smart and insightful cross-cultural comedy as a film. I'm excited about working with David to bring this very timely story to the screen.
Hwang added:
I've loved Justin's work ever since he burst on the scene with Better Luck Tomorrow, and it feels very right to be collaborating with him on the movie version of my play.
I am looking forward to seeing a comedy directed by Lin. Fast & Furious 6 arrives in theaters on May 2013. Do you think that Lin will be able to pull off a comedic film?

Keanu Reeves' New Martial Arts Film 47 RONIN Gets a New Release Date

Universal Pictures has taken the effects-heavy Keanu Reeves martial arts film 47 Ronin and moved its release date from November 21st, 2012 to February 8th, 2013. That's quite a big push back.

According to Deadline, the reason for the release date change is the movie had gone through some re-shoots. Of course the studios won't admit to that, they are just saying that they need a little more time to work on getting all of the 3D effects for the film perfected. So what if they had to reshoot some scenes? iI happens all the time.

The movie was directed by first time feature film director Carl Rinsch and also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Kou Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi. The story is based on one of ancient Japan's most epic stories.

Here's the synopsis for the film:

Kai (Reeves), an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada ), the leader of the 47 Ronin. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors. ... Inspired by styles as diverse as Miyazaki and Hokusai, Rinsch will bring to life the stunning landscapes and enormous battles that will display the timeless Ronin story to global audiences in a way that's never been seen before.

I cant wait to see how this movie turns out! If you've seen any of Rinsch's commercial or short film work, you know that this movie is going to be visually mind blowing.

Owen Wilson To Star in Action Film with The Tone of TAKEN

$

Owen Wilson will be strapping up for an action film for the first time since Behind Enemy Lines, which came out over a decade ago! Can you believe that?! While he's been lounging in comedy-country (often vacationing in Wes Andersonville) for a while, crashing weddings and voicing dogs and cars, a good action flick might just be what he needs.
Crime Scene Pictures will put Wilson in the lead role in The Coup, an action drama to that will be directed by John Erick Dowdle (Quarantine, Devil).
Dowdle co-wrote the script with his brother Drew Dowdle. The film will reportedly have a tone comparable to Taken, with Wilson paying the father of a family that moves to Southeast Asia who find themselves embroiled in a violent coup when rebels mercilessly attack the city.
Here's what the producers had to say about what got them excited about the premise of The Coup and putting Wilson in the role:
We love the relentless energy of the Dowdle Brothers’ script – and their vision for dropping Owen in the midst of the chaos is truly inspired... When I first read the Dowdles’ screenplay, I was immediately taken with how strongly it taps into that primal fear which any parent can relate to, when it comes to the safety and protection of their family.
You can take the actor out of the comedy, but you can't take the comedy out of the comedian. That didn't make sense, did it? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt the film to have Wilson's smart mouth supplying at least a liiiiitle comic relief, right? Shooting will begin in October in Southeast Asia.

Are you excited to see Owen Wilson get his action on?

ROBOT CHICKEN's DC Comic Special - First Look and Cast Announced

Earlier this year it was announced that we would get a Robot Chicken DC Comics special focusing on all of our favorite DC Universe superheroes. Today we have our first look at the special along with the awesome full voice cast which includes Robot co-creator Seth Green as Batman, Robin and Aquaman; Paul Reubens as The Riddler; Neil Patrick Harris as Two-Face; Alfred Molina as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern; Megan Fox as Lois Lane; and Breckin Meyer as Superman.

Green had this to say in a statement:

Having been raised on DC Comics and the Super Friends vs. Legion of Doom, it’s exciting to tell a whole Robot Chicken story within this awesome universe.

Co-creator Matthew Senreich added:

We’ve been working with (DC Entertainment chief creative officer) Geoff Johns for over 15 years, so playing together on this special only made it more fun to work in the worlds we all love so dearly.

I enjoy the hell out of Robot Chicken, it never fails at making me laugh. Watching this show always puts me in a good mood. It's awesome that the show is still going strong and that we're going to see them take crack at the DC Universe. I have no doubt it will be one of the funniest things they create, but it's going to be hard to out-do those Star Wars specials.

Here's one of Robot Chicken's past DC comedy sketches... What is one of your favorite Robot Chiken sketches?

PROMETHEUS - Awesome Making-of Video with New Footage!

Fox has released an awesome brand new making-of video taking us behind the scenes of one of this years most anticipated films, Prometheus. The video includes some new footage from the film as well as interviews with director Ridley Scott, and its cast talking about the film and working with its director. I recently watch the movie Alien on Blu-ray. It's been a few years since I've seen that movie, but damn it's good. There's absolutely no mistake that Prometheus is a direct prequel to that film.

Prometheus opens up in theaters on June 8th, and it's hard to explain how bloody excited I am to see it, especially after watching Alien again.

Here's an interesting badass image of some kind of skull shown in the footage of the video that sparked my curiosity...

Synopsis:

Ridley Scott, director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner," returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Here's a few new promo images from The Amazing Spider-Man. One of them features Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) in his Spider-Man outfit with the amazing looking Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). This new Spider-Man suit is so cool looking.

I'm surprised that there are some people still hung up on this movie, and not sure if they're excited about it or not. There's a new trailer set to be released with The Avengers, maybe that will be the one that actually pulls people over or pushes them away even further. I like the fact that there are a lot of changes to this character. It means we are going to see something we've never seen before, and as a Spider-Man fan that's exciting for me.

Over the last couple of days we've seen a couple of amazing new trailers for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, so this simple new image of Duke and Roadblock really isn't going to do anything for you, but posting it allows me to remind you about those trailers that were recently released. So in case you missed them, you can watch the new domastic trailer here and the new international trailers here. Let me ask you a question... do you think Duke is going to be killed off in this movie?

Here's the synopsis:

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. Rooney Mara To Join Joaquin Phoenix in Spike Jonze's New Film

Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is in final negotiations to join Spike Jonze's new untitled film project. She will replace the previously cast Carey Mulligan, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Jonze wrote and will direct the movie, which also stars Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Samantha Morton.

As far as the story goes, all we know is that it's about a man who falls in love with the voice of a computer. There's no word on who any of these actors will play in the film, but knowing Jonze, it will turn out to be an interesting film.

Mara is currently working with director Steven Soderbergh on The Bitter Pill, and she'll start work on this one as soon as she's done. Mara is a fantastic actress that has a great career ahead of her.

This will be Jonze's first film since his 2009 film Where the Wild Things Are. So, if you had a choice between Carey Mulligan and Rooney Mara, who would you choose?

Six Great New Film Clips from MOONRISE KINGDOM

$

Six entertaining new film clips have been released for Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. The film has a great cast of actors that includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Jared Gilman, and Kara Hayward.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, "Moonrise Kingdom" follows a young boy and girl falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing. Willis plays the town sheriff; Norton is cast as a camp leader; Murray and McDormand portray the young girl’s parents.

Watch the film clips and let us know know if you ever ran away from home when you were a kid. If you did, where did you go? I did when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. I made it to the bottom of the stairs outside of our apartment once. Then I went back up inside to watch cartoons.

New Penzance

Penzance is a peaceful, quaint island off the coast of New England. It's the home Suzy and Sam run away from. In this quirky scene, the narrator describes the different features of the island and ends with a foreshadowing of the impending storm saying, "the ferocious and well-documented storm...will strike from the East on the 5th of September—in three days time."

Were You Followed?

We're introduced to Suzy and Sam in this clip as they meet in a vacant prairie ready to begin their adventure. Suzy brings along her cat and Sam presents her with flowers. He pulls out his map and tells her his plan of attack. Since Suzy trusts him, she accepts his strategy (and some beef jerky) and they're on their way.

Loaded Question

This comical clip sets up Suzy's hair-brained parents, The Bishops. Her mother calls her down to dinner using a megaphone. Upon learning from Suzy's brother that she took his record player and will return it in ten days or less, Mrs. Bishop again uses the megaphone to call to her husband (Murray). When he answers that he's upstairs, she leans out of the first floor window, looks up and proceeds with their conversation. "Does it concern you that your daughter has just run away from home?" she sternly asks. "That's a loaded question," he replies. With the search party that follows, we assume he really means "yes, dear."

I'm Deputizing The Little Guy

In this scene we see Captain Sharp (Willis) rounding up the troops to help in the search for Suzy and Sam. As one of the scouts spots a clue that confirms they're on the right trail, the Captain recruits "the little guy, the skinny one and the boy with the patch on his eye" to continue on with him until help arrives. The scene sets up Sharp's control and his no-nonsense approach to finding the children.

Juvenile Refuge

But if we thought Captain Sharp was in control, Tilda Swinton proves us wrong when she takes control in this clip playing Social Services. As she reprimands him and Scout Master Ward (Norton) for allowing the boy to escape, she says, "You two are the most appallingly incompetent custodial guardians Social Services has ever had the misfortune to encounter in a twenty-seven year career." Ouch. Sharp comes back saying that Juvenile Refuge is not the place for Sam, but Social Services finishes the argument with, "Find the boy and deliver him to Social Services. Nothing else is in your power."

The Most Important Decision In Your Lives

Cousin Ben (Schwartzman) helps Suzy and Sam on their adventure and in this scene we see the Falcon Scout offer to marry the twelve year olds. Well, he offers to perform the ritual since a marriage between two children will not hold up in any type of court. As he asks them if they love each other and are ready for the commitment, he expects replies of "no" and continues to get "yes." While he's willing to help the lovebirds, we learn his character is a good leader by looking out for their well-being.

Are You Ready for a FRANKENSTEIN Found-Footage Film?

$

The team that brought us the upcoming found footage horror anthology V/H/S, Radio Silence, is about to embark on a new found footage movie journey that will tackle the classic tale of Frankenstein. The directing quartet is currently in negotiations with Lionsgate to direct a horror film called The Reawakening, which comes from Shutter screenwriter Luke DawsonVulture describes it as "equal parts Flatliners and Frankenstein."

There are no other details on the film other than that. I loved the movie V/H/S! I had a chance to see it at Sundance, and I was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining it was. It ended up being one of those movies that I would will enjoy watching every Halloween right along side Halloween, Poltergeist Susperia, and Trick r' Treat. You can read my full review of the film here.

I have no idea if this Frankenstein movie is going to be a good fit for them. Hell, there's so many other Frankenstein films in development right now I'm not sure if a low-budget found footage version is going to cut it. On top of this film we've got Stuart Beattie’s I, Frankenstein, Shawn Levy is making an adaptation for Fox, Columbia Pictures is trying to get one off the ground with David Fincher. I'm not sure if he's directing or just producing. Universal Pictures is also developing a version that Guillermo del Toro has been attached to direct for years, and then Limitless director Neil Burger is working on a Bride of Frankenstein remake.

So as you can see Hollywood has got plenty of Frankenstein movies in the works. I really don't think we need another one. The only version I'm interested in seeing out of the bunch at this point is Del Toro's vision.

What do you think about the idea of a food footage Frankenstein movie? Which of these projects are you most excited to see... if any?
