This is such a cool piece for such a cool, villainous character. Below you'll find a description and a collection of more photos.

“There are no strings on me.”

Since the first official release of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, the film’s titular villain Ultron’s menacing appearance and memorable speech has grabbed many fans’ attention and left wondering how the Earth’s mightiest heroes can stand up against this highly dangerous robot and its large army.

With the epic blockbuster just few short months away from hitting theatres worldwide, Hot Toys is very excited to “show you something beautiful” today, the 1/6th scale Ultron Prime Collectible Figure, that many fans and collectors have eagerly awaited to see!

The movie-accurate Collectible Figure is specially crafted based on the image of Ultron Prime in Avengers: Age of Ultron. HITMAN: AGENT 47 Trailer Starring Rupert Friend and Zachary Quinto

hitman-agent-47-trailer-starring-rupert-friend-and-zachary-quinto

This is the first trailer for the action-packed extravaganza Hitman: Agent 47. The movie is based on the popular video game franchise, and it looks like a ridiculously over-the-top flick. It stars Rupert Friend (Homeland) and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek Into Darkness), and I'm sure it will deliver some entertainment, but I don't think the movie looks very good. it has a very mediocre feel to it, but I'll probably go see it regardless. My expectations have been set very low, so maybe it will exceed them. I'm surprised that Quinto did this, especially because he seems to be very picky about the projects he does these days. This movie isn't going to do him any favors career-wise.

HITMAN: AGENT 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research – and forty-six earlier Agent clones -- endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47’s past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.

The movie was directed by Aleksander Bach, and it's set to be released on August 28th.

Mad Magazine Spoofs STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

It has been years since I've read Mad Magazine. I don't think I've picked up a copy since I was in high school. The pop culture magazine is known for spoofing pretty much everything for a laugh, and in issue #532, they will be taking on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Thanks to /Film we have the magazine cover and a tease of what you will find inside. The issue features a two-page spread for the film, and it hits the iPad on February 13th and newsstands on February 24th.

The art that you see here was done by Herman Mejia, and the story was written by Mike MorseMAD Editor in Chief John Ficarra. had this to say about the issue in an interview:

"We’ve been wanting to do it for years! We first had the idea back in 1981, but they hadn’t even announced Return of the Jedi yet, so just sat on it and sat on it. But the excitement finally got the better of us, which is why we published it now and didn’t wait till December."

When asked if we would see more Star Wars spoofs leading up to the release of The force Awakens he said,

"Maybe, but we like to keep our options open so we’re sure to always give our readers what they want. Other sequels besides Force Awakens that we’re considering spoofing are Jupiter Ascending 2: Still Ascending, The Interview Part II: Merkel Mayhem, and the sequel to The Boy Next Door, The Boy Next Door, Too: That Kid Two Doors Down.  (We’re going to stop now.)"

Do any of you still enjoy reading Mad Magazine?

New Trailer for THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT - "Fight Back"

Summit Entertainment has released a new trialer for their upcoming film The Divergent Series: Insurgent. The trailer is called "Fight Back," and it features Tris and her crew trying to survive as they are being hunted down. This looks like it could be a decent sequel. I thought the first film was ok, but it didn't blow me away or anything. I don't think this one will either, but it does look better than the first one.

Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.

The movies are based on the bestselling book series by Veronica Roth, and this one was directed by Robert Schwentke (RED, The Time Traveler’s Wife). The films stars Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars,White Bird in a Blizzard), Theo James (Underworld: Awakening, London Fields), Kate Winslet (Labor Day, Contagion), Octavia Spencer (The Help, Black or White), Suki Waterhouse (Pusher,Love, Rosie), Jonny Weston (Project Almanac, Chasing Mavericks), Naomi Watts (Birdman, The Impossible), Rosa Salazar (Epic, Jamesy Boy), and Keiynan Lonsdale (Dance Academy).

The Divergent Series: Insurgent hits theaters March 20th, 2015.

Marvel Is Looking at These Two Young Actors for Spider-Man

Marvel and Sony Pictures are pretty much looking to reboot Spider-Man all over again, but this time it looks like they are going to do it right, especially with Marvel on board to help steer the character in the right direction.

Yesterday we learned that the studios are looking to recast Spider-Man and Peter Parker as a younger character who is still in high school. I know we've already seen this twice already, but I seriously don't think they are going to give us another origin story of the character. After all, they are going to introduce him in Captain America: Civil War, and there's no room for an origin story there. The report does say, though, that the plan is for the character to spend more time in the High School setting and "explore his awkward relationship with other students while fighting crime out of the classroom."

marvel-looking-at-these-two-young-actors-for-spider-man2

Thanks to Variety, we've learned two young actors are being considered for the part of Spider-Man. Those actors are Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) and Logan Lerman (Fury). I'd be happy to see either one of these actors land the role. If I had to choose just one, though, I'd have to go with Lerman. The guy just seems to have the natural Peter Parker vibe to him. Also, as much as I enjoyed O'Brien in The Maze Runner, Lerman is a much better actor. You can check out some of our other casting suggestions here if you want, but I like the idea of Lerman suiting up and kicking some ass.

marvel-looking-at-these-two-young-actors-for-spider-man1

The report goes on to say that no actors have been approached for the role yet, but it's going to happen eventually. They also explains that the studio is still trying to figure out "whether it wants to go with another Peter Parker or introduce another character that suits up as Spider-Man, including Miles Morales." Seeing as they are currently looking at O'Brien and Lerman to take on the part, I'd say they've already made up their minds. That could change, though.

Sony Pictures is also actively on the hunt for a new director to take on the new Spider-Man franchise. Hopefully Marvel helps out with that, as they have a knack for hiring talented directors.

With Spider-Man set to appear in Civil War, a casting decision is going to need to be made soon, so stay tuned! We'll keep you updated.

Heartbreaking HARRY POTTER Supercut Shows Snape's Side of the Story

Severus Snape is one of the most important characters in the Harry Potter franchise, and his full story slowly unfolds over the course of the book series and eight feature films. YouTube user kcawesome13 is a hardcore Potter fan, and she has created a video supercut that shows us the story of Snape in chronological order. His story in incredibly heartbreaking, and this video is a fascinating watch that I think fans will appreciate.

Severus Snape's most important scenes and arcs in the Harry Potter film series in chronological order, from meeting Lily to his memory living on in a name...

When I completed the Harry Potter saga, Snape ended up being my favorite character. There was just so much complexity to him, and I loved that we learned little bits and pieces of him throughout the story until all was revealed. This supercut kind of puts it all into perspective.

First Trailer for Judd Apatow's TRAINWRECK, Starring Amy Schumer

Judd Apatow has become such a dominant force in today's comedy landscape that it's sometimes easy to forget that he's only actually directed four films over the course of his career. The trailer for his fifth film, Trainwreck, debuted this morning, and instead of the typical bro-heavy movie that he's become known for, this one looks to explore relationships from the female side of things with comedian Amy Schumer in the lead role. (She wrote the script, too.)

Schumer has made a big splash with her Comedy Central show over the past year, and it's great to see her get a chance to take center stage on a big movie like this. It looks pretty funny to me, but what do you think?

Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo—enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment—but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut. When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she’s writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Halloween Costumes

I swear, the quality of Halloween costumes seems to be getting worse and worse. We have a collection of photos here featuring costumes for Avengers: Age of Ultron for both kids and adults. There's some effort that went into designing some of the costumes, but then there are costumes that are literally just T-shirts and cheap masks. I think I'm just used to seeing so many amazing cosplayers out there these days doing incredible things, that when I come across something like this I'm filled with disappointment. It did offer a laugh though, especially with the Hulkbuster costume and the Thor wig.

Vincent D'Onofrio will next be seen as The Kingpin in Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil series, but this summer we'll see him suit up as a member of the staff of Jurassic World. Colin Trevorrow's upcoming sequel has put together an impressive web presence, with a website designed to look like the official site of an actual Jurassic World theme park, complete with webcams, park maps, and much more. Universal has released a new video detailing D'Onofrio's character as the head of security for the park, which gives us a little information on what we can expect from him as we wait for the "park" to "open."

Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12th, 2015.

HIT-GIRL Prequel and KICK-ASS 3 Films Have Been Plotted and Discussed

hit-girl-prequel-and-kick-ass-3-films-have-been-plotted-and-discussed

Last month we learned that The Raid director Gareth Evans was interested in make a standalone Hit-Girl movie. There's no doubt in my mind that would be a badass movie. In a recent interview with JoBloKick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn confirms that a Hit-Girl spin-off movie is still actually being discussed. He also talks about getting Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Moretz back for Kick-Ass 3Moretz has said in the past that she's "done with Hit-Girl," but Vaughn seems pretty confident that he can bring her back into the fold. Here's what Vaughn had to say:

"Do you know what's going to be next if I do it... we've finished plotting it. What we have to do is, we've got to do the FIRST CLASS to the KICK-ASS world. We lost a few fans on Kick-Ass 2. It wasn't as loved as one would've hoped. So we have this idea for a Hit Girl prequel. It's a really strong, really simple prequel where I think we can regain the love and the passion. If that happens, I'm pretty sure I can persuade Aaron and Chloe to come back and finish the story of Kick-Ass with Kick-Ass 3.
"Mark and I have already plotted Hit Girl. We have to get the script done next. It's so far out there, you have no idea."

The director says that most of the story is set in the far east, and he admits that he won't helm the movie himself. He is looking to hire someone like Gareth Evans, who is "a really bold, clever director."

I would love to see a Hit-Girl prequel and a Kick-Ass 3. I hope Vaughn and his team can make it happen. This is just such a fun and entertaining franchise, and it'd be awesome if we could get two more movies out of it.

Sideshow Collectibles has a 1/6th scale Harley Quinn collectible action figure for sale, and it looks freakin' awesome. Harley is one of my favorite characters that's been created for the Batman universe. As you can see in the photos, they include a couple different facial expressions to go along with her weapons of choice. Here's the description:

DC Comics' clown princess of chaos, the incomparable Harley Quinn, makes her long-awaited debut in Sideshow Collectibles' Sixth Scale figure line. Dressed to kill in a detailed fabric bodysuit, fitted corset and jester tights, the charmingly psychotic super villain is ready to hit the town, wreaking her special brand of havoc on the unsuspecting citizens of Gotham. Harley's packing a delightfully dangerous bag of tricks, including her signature wooden mallet, an oversized pop gun, and comically engraved brass knuckles, to name a few. Join the one and only Harley Quinn on her wonderfully deranged spree of bedlam and madness!

The figure costs $189.99 and you can add your name to the wishlist now if you want it.

Jon Stewart Announces His Departure From THE DAILY SHOW

$

For many people my age, the primary way we "watched the news" was watching Jon Stewart on The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report. Colbert is moving over to CBS to take over for David Letterman later this year, and now Stewart has announced that he, too, is leaving his show. It's a sad time to be a fan of incisive, funny, satirical cable news broadcasting, and fans are already whipping up lists of who should replace Stewart at the desk. But in my mind, no one will ever be able to truly replace him. Sure, there will be someone else sitting there, and the show will go on, but Stewart found a formula that worked wonders and became arguably one of the most influential people in politics in the process. We'll miss you, Jon.

In what has to be the most elaborate bachelor party I've ever heard of, Dana Saint's friends honored his love of Sylvester Stallone's Rambo by recasting him as the bandanna-wearing action hero and recreating the plots of the films in their hometown. There are motorcycle chases, explosions, and more, and this basically looks like the greatest day ever for Saint and his buddies. What an awesome way to celebrate a bachelor party. This is one of the coolest movie-related videos I've seen in a long, long time. Check it out below (via Sploid):

Dwayne Johnson on Black Adam and Confirms Shared DC Universe

In the upcoming issue of Total Film magazine, Dwayne Johnson discusses the character that he will be playing in Warner Bros. Shazam! movie, Black Adam. He also confirms that all of the DC films that the studio plans on making will have a shared universe. There's apparently been some debate about whether or not that would be the case, and Johnson basically clears it all up.

Here's what he had to say in regards to playing Black Adam, and what we can expect to see from him:

“I think Black Adam is going to grow into becoming an anti-hero. It’s all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilised them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology.”

When asked about how Black Adam fit in with the rest of the DC cinematic universe, he revealed:

“It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected… One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there’s a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humour.”

Not only does he confirm the interconnected universe, but he also says that we'll eventually see him go up against Batman, Superman, and more. We've got a hell of a long way to go before we see anything from this character, though. The movie doesn't come out until 2019, so we might not even get to see him fight any of these other heroes until years after that.

Artist Edward Pun has created this fun series of illustrations that give us several characters from The Walking Dead reimagined in a cartoon type of style. He definitely does a good job capturing the personalities of each of the characters.

The recent mid-season premiere of the series sure started with an intense bang. It seems like every episode from here on out will feature a main character being killed off! At this rate, Rick will be the only one left alive by the end of the season.

Watch George Lucas and Robert Redford's Sundance Panel

I thought this year's Sundance Film Festival was pretty good. As I look back on it, there were some really good movies this year, and I hope that one day you will be able to see them. Many of them should be released throughout the next year or so. The festival concluded with a panel featuring George Lucas and Robert Redford. During the panel they talk about all kinds of things, ranging from the state of Hollywood to Star Wars. It's a pretty good hour and a half in-depth discussion worth checking out if you are a fan of these two talents. One of the more amusing statements came from Lucas when he says:

"A lot of movies you see today are circus movies. Let’s see how much blood comes out when he splats. It's now gotten to be more and more circus than substance. I get blamed for a lot of that. If you go into Star Wars and see what’s going on there, there’s a lot more substance than circus.”

It's funny hearing that from Lucas. I can agree that there is more substance than circus in the original Star Wars trilogy, but not for the prequels.

6 Outrageously Offensive Comic Book Supervillains

$
0
0

In my journey to get to know some crazy obscure comic book characters (some of which you can read about here, here and here), I came across some really interesting villains that can be considered ridiculously offensive and distasteful by some people. The first one I came across was Marvel’s Armless Tiger-Man, and that sent me on the hunt to look for more. I came across six in total that also kind of shocked me and made me laugh.

Comic book publishers have always been under pressure to create comic book villains, and in the process they pushed through some that were clearly bad ideas. Here are six of them for you to check out. I'm sure some of you have already heard of some of these, but here they are:

Armless Tiger Man - Disabled Villain

Armless Tiger Man was introduced in Marvel Comics the 1940s. His real name is Eric Hertz, and he worked in a mechanical laboratory in Germany. His arms ended up being caught in a machine and were ripped off. He developed a strong hatred for machines because of that bad experience, and started working on building strength in his mouth and legs. He even sharpened his teeth into fangs for weapons, and his above average strength allows him to bend steel with his mouth. His toes are also very dexterous, allowing him to throw daggers with them.

The Nazis would send him on missions to America where he would destroy machines with his feet in an attempt to sabotage America’s war effort. Marvel lists his weakness as being handicapped due to his lack of arms. He was very resourceful with what he had, though!

Snowflame - Snorts Cocaine for Increased Power

“I am Snowflame! Every cell of my being burns with white-hot ecstasy. Cocaine is my God -- and I am the human instrument of its will!”

DC Comics came up with this brilliant idea for a villain named Snowflame. He’s a Columbian drug lord, and the more cocaine that he used, the more powerful he became. He had superhuman strength, speed, pyrokinesis, he was immune to pain, and if someone just touched him, that person would get a contact high. He even had an army of coke-head henchmen.

Armless Tiger Man88888snow

DC Comics lists his weakness as being a drug addict, but if the drug is actually making him more powerful, how is that that a weakness?

Floronic Man - Made of Marijuana

DC Comics seemed to have a thing for creating supervillains that are powered by drugs. The Floronic Man - also known as the Plant Master, Floro, and The Seeder - is a plant/human character crossbreed in the DC universe to fight the Atom. The character was originally an exile from an inter-dimensional world, and he used his advanced botanical knowledge to control plant growth in an attempt to take over the world.

The character was eventually revamped in a Batman storyline in which his head is decapitated. A group of scientists manage to keep his head alive, and the first thing he comes in contact with is marijuana. That marijuana regenerates his body, so his body is now literally made of cannabis. He’s basically a big pot plant with a human old man head.

potman75885

At one point, the character takes some of Poison Ivy's DNA so he could create a pot child that would help him rule the world.

Hate-Monger - A Hitler Clone with a Racism Gun

So in 1963, 20 years after WWII ended, Stan Lee thought it would be a good idea to clone Hitler and turn him into a villain called the Hate-Monger. He was a purple KKK hooded racist, and was cloned with the real Hitler's consciousness, which was transferred into the clone body upon his death. He didn’t have any super villain powers, just a special gun called the Hate Ray, which literally shoots out rays of hate, causing people to fight each other. He used it against the Fantastic Four once, and they beat the living shit out of each other.

According to Wiki, The Hate Ray “affects the centers of the human brain controlling emotions so as to stimulate and magnify the victims' feelings of dread, fear, and anger to unreasonable levels, including repressed or subconscious sentiments of this kind. The hate-ray can also transform feelings of love into equally strong or perhaps even stronger hatreds.”

hatmonger8688679679

Over the years, Hitler’s consciousness has been transferred into one person's body after another - Hate-Monger II, Edmund Heidler, and Josh Glenn. So Hitler has been making his way through the Marvel universe for some time.

Because he was basically Hitler, the Hate-Monger was a smart strategist and a charismatic leader who was able to incite fanatical loyalty to him through his rhetoric and persuasive personality.

Egg Fu - Every Asian Stereotype as a Big Egg

I don’t know what DC Comics was smoking when they created Egg Fu in 1965. Actually, scratch that, I do know what they were smoking. Egg Fu is a super evil genius and former communist agent that pretty much embodies every Asian stereotype. He would speak in broken "Engrish" like Charlie Chan, use his mustaches as whips when he fought, and for some reason he was so freakin’ huge!

Egg Fu was one of Wonder Woman’s villains, and in his first story arc, the villain attempts to take down a U.S. Navy fleet by blowing it up with a missile…with Wonder Woman’s boyfriend, Steve Trevor, strapped to it. This is just one of those characters that left me scratching my head and asking myself, “why?”

He-She - A Hermaphrodite Criminal

"The deadliest of the species is the female! The strongest of the species is the male! Combine these with the killer instinct and you have the most cunning, the most vicious, the most fiendish killer of all time!"

All I can say is...wow! Here we have a half-man, half-woman villain who who uses her "power" (?) of being both a boy and girl to commit devious crimes. Like this one time, He-She tricked a woman into marrying him/her to de-fraud her of money!

He-She basically uses the "she" half to seduce people with her charm, and then the "he" half comes in and kills those people with his manly strength. It’s absolutely hilarious to me that her whole strategy consists of only being seen from the right angle and using a high-pitched female voice to lure his/her victims in.

UPDATE: It was brought to my attention that there is an identical list to this on Cracked.com. That is completely unintentional. I guess these six villains make up the definitive list of most offensive supervillains out there.

vision-battles-drones-in-avengers-age-of-ultron-promo-art

It’s amazing how much promo art has been spilling out online for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. We usually see a lot of it for these films, but the amount I’ve seen for Age of Ultron is pretty staggering. You can see some more that we've posted here, here, and here.

This latest piece comes from Tony Stark Sincero, and it features Vision battling an army of Ultron drones. I seriously can’t wait to see the Vision in action! I wonder if they will eventually show him in a trailer, or if they're just going to hold off until we can watch the movie when it's released on May 1st.
