GAME OF THRONES Season 4: See Two Deleted Scenes

$

Scenes can be deleted for any number of reasons: time, clarity, pacing, or just a desire for the audience's attention to be focused elsewhere. But that doesn't mean there isn't some good stuff in them. Such is the case with HBO's Game of Thrones. Two new videos have surfaced revealing deleted scenes from season four (via Pajiba), and the first one gives us some insight into Bronn, Tyrion Lannister's bodyguard. Bronn is often quick with a sarcastic joke or ready to pull his blade at a moment's notice, but in this clip, he offers some kind words to Shae after Tyrion sends her away.

There's also a quick moment featuring Dany and Missandei that takes place after Dany has sent Ser Jorah away, though it's much easier to see why that scene was cut since it doesn't really add much to the character or the overall story. Take a look at the two clips below.

"The World Gets Pitch Slapped" in New PITCH PERFECT 2 Trailer

"These girls have broken down every single barrier in their path."

Universal Pictures has released a second full trailer for Pitch Perfect 2, and it's completely loaded with fun new footage for fans to enjoy. The sequel takes things to a global level and the Barden Bellas compete in a worldwide a capella championship competition. The trailer gives us a much better sense of the challenges that these characters are facing in the story, and this being a comedic feel-good kind of franchise, we know they will triumph. It looks like it will be a very funny journey.

Surprisingly, I liked the first film, and I'm looking forward to seeing the sequel. I just think it's a fun franchise that delivers an amusing charm and enjoyable energy. Pitch Perfect 2 is directed by Elizabeth Banks and stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Hailee Steinfeld. It opens in theaters on May 15th.

The Joker Teased in Promo Trailer for GOTHAM!

We've heard that the Joker would be introduced in this first season of Gotham, and now we have our first look at the character in a promo trailer for next weeks episode! It's called "The Blind Fortune Teller" and the spot builds on the suspense of the arrival of the Crown Prince of Crime. At least that's what FOX wants us to believe! It's pretty blatant, with a sinister young man laughing hysterically while being interrogated by Jim Gordon. The promo also declares, "Gotham’s next villain is no joke."

The actor playing the character is 21-year-old Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Vampire Academy, The Giver), and the character's name being used in this episode is "Jerome". I'm incredibly excited to see the Joker's rise of insanity in this series! We won't get into the meat of the character until Season 2.

Marvel Rearranges Phase 3 Release Schedule, and Here's How It Impacts Future Comic Book Movies

$
0
0

Here's a quick recap: Last night's Spider-Man announcement sent shock waves through the internet because Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have accomplished what seemed like an insurmountable task: bringing Spidey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Sony still retains creative control, but it's a step in the right direction.) The press release revealed that Spider-Man would appear in an upcoming Marvel Studios film (later confirmed to be Captain America: Civil War) and then star in his own solo film (once The Amazing Spider-Man 3, now likely to be re-titled) on July 28th, 2017. We have a list of ten actors we think would be great in the role.

But the new addition of everyone's favorite web-slinger means that Marvel Studios had to rearrange their schedule for Phase Three, and that means that some highly-anticipated films are being pushed back in order to make room for Spidey. Here's the new breakdown:

May 6, 2016: Captain America: Civil War

November 4, 2016: Doctor Strange

May 5, 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy 2

July 28, 2017: Amazing Spider-Man 3

November 4, 2017: Thor: Ragnarok

July 6, 2018: Black Panther

November 2, 2018: Captain Marvel

July 12, 2019: Inhumans

So immediately, we see that Thor: Ragnarock, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans have been pushed back. That's a bummer for those waiting to see Black Panther and Captain Marvel hit the big screen, and I empathize with the complaints I've seen about the studio acquiring yet another white superhero and bumping its minority characters to make room for him. (It would go a long way if Marvel introduced this new Spider-Man as Miles Morales, but that seems unlikely.) It also means that Marvel won't win the arms race to get the first female-led comic book superhero movie since Elektra into theaters: Warner Bros. and DC have Wonder Woman lined up for June 23rd, 2017. That's an important benchmark for the modern era, and hopefully Michelle MacLaren can pull it off. Marvel has to be slightly disappointed that they're letting DC have that one.

No word yet on how Avengers: Infinity War might be affected by the schedule change, but those movies were previously scheduled for May 4th, 2018 and May 3rd, 2019, so that means Black Panther and Captain Marvel will now be in between the two. It's tough to speculate about Marvel's plans this far out because as we just saw last night, things are a bit more fluid than we thought and can be changed in order to make room for important things they want to work in, but let's do it anyway. Before, it seemed like Inhumans was being introduced before Infinity War concluded so those characters could show up to help The Avengers (and practically everyone in the entire MCU) finish Thanos once and for all in Infinity War Part II. But now seems like the kind of galactic expansion that the studio could use to jump-start Phase Four, introducing a whole new set of characters (much like the Guardians of the Galaxy) and using them as building blocks moving forward. After all, we aren't sure which of the good guys are going to survive the Infinity War, and by then, the original Avengers cast will probably be ready to move on to other ventures outside of the MCU.

There's a lot to process with these announcements, and we'll keep bringing you updates as we hear about them. In the meantime, what do you think about the new release schedule?

Retro Japanese Transformers Toy Ads Before They Were Transformers

Here's an awesome collection of old-school retro Japanese commercials featuring transforming robot action figures before they were actually called Transformers. The toys came from the Japanese toy company Takara, and thye were called Diaclones and Microman. The only name I ever knew them by was Transformers, and to be honest I wasn't really aware that these existed as a toy line before the Transformers name came around.

Hasbro ended up partnering up with Takara, bought the rights to many of these action figures, and Transformers was born. You'll see a lot of familiar vehicles and characters in these ads, including Jazz, Optimus Prime, and the Dinobots!

Obadiah Stane Was Originally Not Supposed to Die in IRON MAN

obadiah-stane-was-originally-not-supposed-to-die-in-iron-man

Not only was Jeff Bridge's character Obadiah Stane from Iron Man the first main villain to be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was also the first villain to be killed off. According to Bridges, though, that wasn't the original plan. Apparently the character was supposed to survive, allowing him to return in future Marvel films.

Bridges revealed the information when he was asked about it during a Facebook Q&A for IGN. One of his fans asked him if he wanted Obadiah Stane to live past the first film, and this was his reply:

"When I was hired on, it was scripted that Obadiah would live, that when they opened his Iron Monger suit…he was not in it. Then, they decided to kill my ass off. Telling me “it’s a comic-fantasy, so who knows, your character could come back.” I guess we’ll see…"

He also offered further information on the matter in a separate interview with io9, saying:

"The Iron Monger falls into this big pit of whatever it is, some kind of acid or something, in his costume. They pull it up in the big crane and they open up his costume and he’s gone. And when we were shooting that film they said, 'No we’re not going to do that. We’re just going to have you go.' And I said, 'Oh shit, I was kind of disappointed.' Because I was thinking [I would] be in the sequels. But they said it’s a comic book maybe the Iron Monger will come back. I said 'Yeah, right.'

That really does kind of suck. I honestly don't think the character needed to die, especially because it would have been awesome to see Bridges return! From what I understand, Iron Man didn't have a script when they started shooting the film, but they did have an detailed outline. This just confirms a lot of stuff I heard about the production of the movie, and how they were basically just changing stuff at the last minute while they were shooting.

Luckily the movie turned out awesome, because it could have gone wrong in so many ways while making something like that. I doubt that we'll ever see Stane return as the Iron Monger, but it's good to know that if he did, Bridges would be up for reprising the role.

Honest Trailer for BOYHOOD

I thought Boyhood was a great film, but I didn't think it would go out and win a bunch of Best Picture awards. After seeing the buzz that it has generated, I wouldn't be surprised if it took home the Oscar for Best Picture.

Screen Junkies have taken the highly-acclaimed film and given it the funny Honest Trailer treatment. They start out with the statement, "In 2002, Richard Linklater thought up the most ambitious gimmick in movie history... Forcing one six-year-old to film the most 12 awkward years of his life." That gimmick obviously paid off!

We take on this year's Best Picture front-runner, a simple tale 12 years in the making. And almost as long in the watching.

They bring up some great points about this movie.

Duncan Jones Talks WARCRAFT and the Possibility of Dueling Trailers

Director Duncan Jones has been in post-production on Warcraft for almost a year, and there's still so much that we don't know about his movie. I'm just confident that Jones is doing everything that he can to give fans and audiences a movie that they're going to enjoy.

Jones has been discussing the film a little bit on his Twitter feed by answering some fan questions. He also revealed that one idea he had was to have two separate dueling Warcraft trailers made and released, where one of the trailers would focus on the Horde faction of the fantasy story and one would center around the Alliance.

There's no word on if it will happen or not, but Jones has pitched the idea to the studio. I think they would be crazy if they didn't do that. It's just such a cool idea that is sure to excite fans.

Jones also briefly touches on the effects, the score, and expresses that he's not worried about the film. Check out the brief Q and A session below.

Q. @ManMadeMoon I don't know the structure of the movie, but two parallel trailers focusing on Horde/Alliance stories could be badass.
A. @pabosher I love that idea. Have pitched it myself. We'll have to see...
Q. @ManMadeMoon sounds ace! Looking forward to it. Can you say anything about how much is live action vs CGI?
A. @tcwoolley I would say that we fit somewhere between Planet of the Apes, Fellowship of the Ring and Avatar.
Q. @ManMadeMoon I have every faith in you, but it's starting to sound like you're worried about the film Me I can't wait to see it #forthehorde
A. @CarlRoberts143 Not worried about the film. Want to find the best way to let the broader audience know its a film for them too.
Q. @ManMadeMoon *serious now* how is the music coming along?
A. @DenisJavier I hum it. :)

The film stars Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wryn, Robert Kazinsky as Orgrim, Paula Patton as Garona, Ben Foster as Medivh the “Guardian," Daniel Wu as Gul’dan, Ruth Negga as Lady Taria, Toby Kebbell as Durotan, Ben Schnitzer as Khadgar, and Clancy Brown as Blackhand “The Destroyer.”

Warcraft opens March 11th, 2016.

Slick Supercut of Spies on Film

Matthew Vaughn's spy film Kingsman: The Secret Service comes out this week, and I'll have a review for you sometime in the next day or two. In the meantime, though, Cineplex Movies has created a supercut (via The Playlist) celebrating other spy films that's worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre. It mostly concentrates on modern movies, though there is plenty of footage of old Bond movies throughout the years (makes sense, considering he's the world's most popular cinematic spy). Take a look and let us know what you think below.

Neill Blomkamp Says He Might Still Make An ALIEN Film

Remember that awesome concept art that director Neill Blomkamp released last month for a secret Alien movie he was developing? That photo of Sigourney Weaver in the space jockey helmet lit the geek community on fire, and while fans appreciated the concept art, you could practically hear the collective sigh of disappointment when Blomkamp said that he didn't think he was developing the project anymore.

But wait! In a new interview with Uproxx, Blomkamp (who has Chappie coming out early next month) says that he might actually make the movie after all. That's great news! Here's a snippet of the interview:

The art was very specific, it looked like a complete story. Ripley is wearing a space jockey helmet.
It was a whole story. Then I just wasn’t sure if I was going to do another film, like, at all.
Why?
Sometimes Hollywood just sort of gets to me. I love movies, but Hollywood itself is a difficult animal to negotiate. So, then I was like, if I don’t do any, I should put some of this artwork out and that’s exactly what happened.
Is that you giving up on possibly doing an Alien movie?
It’s not really giving up on the idea.
People on the Internet responded really well to that artwork.
There’s a high possibility, a high degree of chance that it happens that I go back and try to get Alien made.

He sounds pretty serious, which gives us a little more hope than a lot of the empty talk that seems to surround projects like this. And he really makes it seem the only thing standing between us and a Blomkamp-directed Alien movie is...well, Blomkamp himself.

In case it never happens, why is Ripley wearing a space jockey helmet?
I can’t tell you! It might happen! It’s cool though; it’s really cool … I’ll decide soon.
Someone at Fox should listen to you about this.
That’s not the problem, actually.
What’s the problem?
Me. I’m the problem. Fox, they would make it. Like, tomorrow. They would make it.
So if you called right now and said, “OK, done.”
Yes. Then it would happen.
Would it be your vision, or do they have their own ideas?
No, I think it would work out.
Then just do it.
I know, I just have to mentally agree with that.

I'm sure things are slightly more complicated than he makes them out to be, but if he's shooting straight here, he's basically saying that all he has to do is come to terms with making the movie and then he'll actually be able to make the movie. I understand the hesitation - there would be a lot riding on it, and after the way fans responded to Prometheus, the Alien movies aren't exactly hot properties right now. There would be tremendous pressure to deliver something awesome, and it would be a multi-year commitment that would take him away from directing original projects. I'm guessing he'll take a look at how Chappie does and then make his decision from there, but fans of the franchise should be really stoked that this is a possibility.

Weaver was at last year's Hero Complex Film Festival, and I transcribed a conversation she had about returning to reprise her role as Ellen Ripley.

After going to a couple of these Comic-Cons and meeting fans who are so passionate about the series and passionate about Ripley, I do feel that there’s more story to tell. I don’t know how to do that. I don’t think Alien belongs on Earth popping out of a haystack or something, which is where I was afraid it was going to go – the French countryside, or something – but I feel it should take place in the far reaches of the universe where no one in their right mind would ever go. There are very few filmmakers I can think of that I would want to entrust this to, but I can think of a couple.
I feel there’s a longing in certain groups of fans when I meet them for the story to be finished, because we sort of really left it up in the air and I feel a bit badly about that because I was part of that decision-making process. I didn’t want to make 4 and 5. I think it’s hard to make these all in a big jump, you know? You need time to sort of let things resonate. I can imagine a situation where we can at least finish telling her story. I think that would be very satisfying, at least to me. Although I haven’t done anything about it. But I can understand why that might happen and I certainly have met young filmmakers who are very interested in doing that so we’ll have to see what happens.
Moderator: Is that a conversation you've had with Mr. Cameron?
Mr. Cameron’s too busy on Avatar. But I think he’d be – it would really depend on the story and the script. I certainly think there’s something else to say about it and he would certainly be someone I would want to be in that conversation. But he’s too busy. I’m thinking, we always had some crazy young dude doing it – and it could be a woman, too – but anyway, some brilliant young filmmaker. We’ll see. It’s certainly not something that I think about too much, except when I see the movies, I go, ‘God, we’ve gotta finish this story.’

So Weaver is definitely into it. Hopefully Blomkamp can put this together, because his concept art looked fantastic and I'd love to see what he does with a new movie in that franchise.

FIFTY SHADES OF BUSCEMI Parody Trailer

With Fifty Shades of Grey poised to dominate the box office this weekend (pun intended), Boo Ya Pictures has created a funny and rather disturbing parody video that replaces the fetishistic character Christian Grey with a series of characters played by Steve Buscemi. It's not the cleanest mash-up I've seen - not by a long shot - but there's something off-putting and sort of hilarious about the concept of Buscemi in a role like this opposite the young Dakota Johnson. It's one of those things that you are kind of disgusted to see, but you also can't look away. Enjoy.

Sophie Turner on Playing Jean Grey in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and Bryan Singer's Set Photos

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner was cast as a young Jean Grey in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse. She's a great choice for the role, and I think she's going to deliver a brilliant performance. During an interview with IGN, the actress talked about the character, the role she is going to take on, and why she thinks she got the part.

“I think maybe one of the reasons that they chose me for [Jean] is because they saw the dark side of Sansa. Maybe they’re thinking, ‘Oh, Phoenix, Jean Grey.’ I definitely see a lot of parallels in there…..[Jean] struggles with her power… and not being accepted in the human world. I think in terms of [Game of Thrones], that’s kind of the way Sansa felt in that she really wanted to be a normal princess/queen and live a normal life — and she doesn’t, because of all this havoc happens. I think Jean, in a way, feels that.”

Turner goes on to talk about the influence of Famke Janssen, who as you know, originally played Grey in the films. She explains that she plans to emulate Janssen as well as bringing her own thing to the character.

“I think Famke played Jean incredibly well, but also, I’m playing a younger version of her. I want to emulate Famke in a sense, because she has to seem like the Jean in the first two movies, but I’m also going to put my own twist on her. I think I’m also going to take inspiration from the comics. I don’t know, we’ll see.”

In other X-Men: Apocalypse related news, Singer has been releasing photos from some of the set construction being done, one of which teases the familiar door to Professor X's Cerebro. But Singer teases that there will be "something new behind it."

I know. Old door. But there'll be something new behind it. #XmenApocalypse

20 Minute Video Shows What's Wrong With Modern Action Movies

Even if you love action movies, you have to admit that the state of the modern action film is pretty bad these days. Chris Stuckmann has created a twenty minute video essay (via The Playlist) that breaks down a lot of the specific issues that seem to arise over and over again in action films, and instead of just critiquing them, he actually offers some solid advice on how to fix things. He brings up a lot of great points, and while many of these should be common sense at this point - guess what? Having a great script is actually very important! - that's clearly not the case. For those of you who are aspiring screenwriters, get ready to take some solid notes: this is important information to know. Any video that takes Olivier Megaton down a notch is one I'm going to like.

Hugh Jackman Reacts To Marvel & Sony's Spider-Man Deal

This is pretty cool. Screencrush sat down with Hugh Jackman to talk to him about Neill Blomkamp's Chappie early this morning, and they caught Jackman's natural reaction to hearing about the massive news that Sony and Marvel have reached a deal regarding the future of Spider-Man. The news doesn't have immediate implications for Jackman's Wolverine to head to the MCU any time soon (Fox owns the cinematic rights to the X-Men, remember), but this convergence is something Jackman himself has been hoping to see for a long time. He mentioned last year that he'd love to see Wolverine in an Avengers movie, but he acknowledges in this video that by the time that finally happens, he won't be playing the character anymore. MALEFICENT Sideshow Collectibles Action Figure Review

maleficent-sideshow-collectibles-action-figure-review

Regardless of what you thought about Disney’s Maleficent, it’s a role that Angelina Jolie was pretty much born to play. She looked amazing as the classic Disney villain, and Hot Toys has created a 1/6th scale collectible action figure that captures the look of her character perfectly.

Sideshow Collectibles has provided me with one of these figures to look over and review, and as you’d might expect from Sideshow and Hot Toys, the detail and craftsmanship of the figure is superb - especially in the costume she’s wearing. It’s amazing to see the kind of work that they put into the tailoring up close and personal. The pictures don’t do it any justice. The gown is the real deal, and it comes along with a black collar as well a snap-on extension that gives the whole costume a fuller, impressive look.

The figure also comes with five interchangeable hands, and the accessories include the character’s staff, her Raven, a pair of green flames that come out of the palm of her hands, and a pair of wicked cool black boots.

The head and face of the character is specifically hand-painted, and it features a movie-accurate facial expression that comes with detailed wrinkles, skin texture and make-up specifics that bring the character to life like no other toy company can do.

Hot Toys completely nailed the look of Maleficent, and it’s a must-own for anyone who is a fan of the film, or a collector who is into Disney stuff.

The figure is currently available at Sideshow for $229.99, so if you want to get one for yourself click here

Clive Owen & Morgan Freeman in LAST KNIGHTS Trailer

I'll readily admit that medieval films aren't exactly at the top of my personal list of genres I'm most excited to watch, but this trailer for Last Knights looks like utter garbage. I generally like Clive Owen, and who doesn't love Morgan Freeman? But this thing uses all of the cliches in the book, and it's no surprise that it's been sitting on a shelf for a couple of years while Lionsgate figured out what to do with it. (Step 1 should have been "cast Nicolas Cage.") Japanese director Kazuaki Kiriya directed this film, and it looks like a total disaster to me. USA Today brings us the trailer.

Last Knights hits theaters and On Demand services on April 3rd, 2015.

After hearing that District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp might still be making a new Alien movie, I've been thinking a lot about the Alien franchise this afternoon. SPIDER-MAN Update: Casting Young, Spin-Off Info & More

$
0
0

Spider-Man has been on the brain all day for geeks around the world following the landmark announcement last night that the character would be heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and be getting a new standalone film in 2017. (Watch Hugh Jackman react to the news right here, and read about what the new Phase 3 release schedule here.) A little bit of information has trickled out since last night, so I figured I'd round some of that up for you in one easy-to-digest piece.

First off: Marvel reportedly paid Sony Pictures $0 for the right to use Spidey in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, The Avengers franchise, or any other movie. Variety reports that each studio will basically keep its own earnings at the box office, though Marvel stands to make a boatload of money from the merchandising of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. It seems that Sony knows its in a position of needing Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios much more than Feige needs Spider-Man.

We already knew that Andrew Garfield would no longer be playing Peter Parker, but the report also confirms that Sony is recasting Spider-Man as a younger high school student, which sounds like a good way to distinguish this version of the character from the rest of the Avengers. There's no official word on casting yet, but expect that announcement soon if the character is going to have any legitimate part in Civil War. (We have some ideas right here.)

And finally, one of the big questions that's come from all of this is what about the spin-offs Sony had planned for their franchise? I'll let Variety tell you:

The studio is still moving forward with the Spider-Man villain-centric “Sinister Six,” and “Venom” spinoff, as well as a film that features female characters in the “Spider-Man” universe. “The Amazing Spider-Man 3″ has been cancelled. While Marvel’s Feige is involved with Sony’s new “Spider-Man” films, he currently is not expected to be creatively involved with the spinoffs, sources say.

So that officially confirms the idea of a film centered on the female characters in the Spider-verse, which up until now was nothing more than a rumor. That's good news in theory, but without Feige producing those movies, will they be as good? It depends. Sony is in a position to make some serious changes right now, and if they put, say, Phil Lord and Chris Miller in charge of the Spidey franchise in the same way that Zack Snyder is overseeing the DC characters, then things could be looking up for Sony. We know the characters can work; at this point, it's just about finding the right people who can make them work in the right way.

Disney Releases Enchanting New Trailer for CINDERELLA

A new full trailer for Disney’s live-action Cinderella movie has been released. I think this movie is going to be a huge hit for the mouse house. My little girls are ridiculously giddy about it, and they’re going to love it whether it’s good or bad. Why? Because it’s Cinderella! She can’t do any wrong in the eyes of little girls. As a Disney fan myself, I think the movie looks great, too.

The new trailer features a good amount of new footage from the live-action fairytale, which gives us some more insight into the drama of the story. I've also included a TV spot called “Conspiracy” and a clip called "Stepmother To Be." Here’s the synopsis:

The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holiday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” She will not give in to despair nor despise those who abuse her. And then there is the dashing stranger (Richard Madden) she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an employee at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears as if her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming “Kit.” Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand as a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, changes Cinderella’s life forever.

The Kenneth Branagh-directed film also stars Stellan Skarsgård and Derek Jacobi. Cinderella hits US theaters on March 13th, 2015.
