Here’s a group of cosplayers sporting some spectacular cosplay featuring rockabilly DC comics superheroes.

The women are are dressed up as the DC Comics Bombshells that were inspired by the art of Ant Lucia. The guys' Batman and Riddler costumes were inspired by the art of Denis Medri. As for Superman, Green Lantern, Joker and Aquaman, they are all original cosplay creations.

The photography was done by Katrina Catizone Art, and I’m a huge fan of all of the costumes presented here. I love seeing cosplayers get crazy creative with their outfits!

Joss Whedon on Directing CAPTAIN MARVEL and His Female Batman Movie Idea

joss-whedon-on-directing-captain-marvel-and-female-batman-movie-idea

Joss Whedon may not come back to direct Avengers: Infinity War, but maybe there’s another Marvel film he’d be up for directing. How about Captain Marvel? Whedon is known for creating powerful female characters, so it would be cool to see him bring Marvel’s first female-driven movie to the big screen.

In an interview with BuzzFeed he was asked if he would take on Captain Marvel if given the opportunity, and this was his vague response:

“Um, I would never rule anything out, because I like working here. By the same token, the biggest thing for me is that I need to do something that I create myself. It’s been way too long since I created a universe… Captain Marvel I don’t know as well. There have been a few [versions] of her. I have the first issue of Ms. Marvel, back when she was that, and had the Farrah hair. My only issue with her is that she always felt sort of on top. She was very driven. A winner. I always like to dig into the soil of things to find my heroes, if I can.”

It seems like Whedon directing Captain Marvel is a long shot, but if it happens, there’s no doubt that fans would be overjoyed. I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if Marvel ended up hiring a female director to tackle this character. The studio has been getting a lot of heat from some of their fans because they haven’t made a female led film yet. It’s finally happening, and hiring a female director to take on the challenge of bringing it to life might make those fans even happier.

We're most likely going to Whedon develop an original project after Age of Ultron. So what kind of project does Whedon plan on creating? He offers the following female Batman idea:

“I will say that when I was thinking about, Well, if I wasn’t going to do Avengers 2, what would I want to do? — of course the first thing I thought of was “turn-of-the-century female Batman.” Not Batman actually. But, you know, something cool. One person. Can’t stress that enough. Movie about one person — not a team, not 10, just one. But [I would] do a nice sort of hard action movie that combined all my favorite things. Something that would be the love child of Sam Fuller and Edward Gorey. You know, I’ve had many thoughts since then. Oh, I could do this! Oh, I could do that! But it is my instinct to want to tell those stories.”

There’s nothing that is official about this project pitch, but I hope he gets to do it. I’d rather see him make that movie than Captain Marvel. It's exactly the kind of badass movie that fans would expect Whedon would make.

Would you like to see Whedon direct Captain Marvel or his female "Batman" film? Who would you like to see direct Captain Marvel if not Whedon?

College Humor has released a hilarious comedy sketch called “How to Tell If You’re a Basic Bro.” The short stars Kerri Kenney as a doctor who diagnoses Brian Murphy as a “basic bro.” She then helps his girlfriend come to terms with her boyfriend’s condition. The sketch points out several ways that a bro can be basic. For those of you not familiar with the "basic bro" term, here's the definition from the Urban Dictionary:

1) One who has no personality; dull and irrelevant

2) Just a top bro

3) Someone who dresses like everyone else, with some edge

4) Someone who thinks they are flawless

Sounds like a category that no one would want to fall under, but so many guys do. This is a great sketch that is sure to make a lot of you laugh, so check it out when you get a chance. Here's a brief caption that came along with the video:

He likes football, cold beer, and not having a shred of originality.

GOTHAM's Joker Storyline Will Be Set Up Before Season 1 Ends

I don’t know about you, but one of the characters that I’m most excited about seeing introduced on Gotham is the Joker. The show has done an amazing job introducing and developing up some of the classic Batman villains, such as Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and the Riddler. It has also laid the groundwork for several other characters.

During an interview with TV Guide, showrunner Bruno Heller revealed that there will finally be a real hint of a storyline for the Joker by the end of the first season, then the real development of the character will continue in Season 2, which is freakin’ exciting! According to Heller, no one wanted to wait any longer to make bring Joker into the series.

“We’ve said you’re going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America — nobody wants to wait. So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it — a little tap on the door.”

That’s all he had to say about Joker, but it’s just awesome to know that they are actually going to touch on the character this season. I didn’t think that would happen. I thought they'd make us wait longer. Heller then goes on to talk about the Riddler, and how he will start to take more shape during the rest of this first season. From the way Heller explains it, it seems his relationship with Kristen Kringle (Chelsea Spack) will play into what happens in his future:

“Penguin [Robin Lord Taylor] was born a sociopath and was always going down this path one way or another. [Edward] Nygma [played by Cory Michael Smith] is someone who becomes the villain, and we see that journey begin in the second half of the season… What motivates people to do things is oftentimes love. He is slowly starting to break through her defenses, but we take two steps forward and then one step back. It’s not smooth sailing for Edward Nygma. It’s complicated for her to have somebody’s feelings in her hand. It’s not as simple as rejecting somebody and having a clean conscience because she’s starting to realize how deeply he cares.”

Gotham airs Monday nights on Fox, and I think the show is just getting better as it goes on.

Hot Toys has revealed a very different new set of action figures for Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is supposed to launch a new series of toys called Artist Mix Figures. These were designed by Japanese toy character designer Touma, and as you can see, the figures have a fun, cartoonish, bubbly look to them. This won't be the only set of toys in the Artist Mix Collection Series either. Hot Toys will be collaborating with several other artists and designers to bring more movie characters to life in new and unique ways.

You can find more information on the new toy series below along with a lot more photos of the Age of Ultron figures.

Hot Toys is expanding its product line yet again to bring more diversity to fans, and today we are very excited to present the new Artist Mix Collection series! As the name suggests, Hot Toys will collaborate with different artists and designers from various spectrums to re-imagine movie characters in a special art form with unique style.

To kick-off the Artist Mix Collection, Hot Toys is joining hands with famous Japanese toy artist Touma* and introducing a number of Artist Mix Figures based on one of the biggest movies of 2015 - Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron!

This first series will include Iron Man Mark XLIII, Captain America, Hulkbuster, Ultron Prime, and two versions of Ultron Sentry! Each Artist Mix Figure has a bobble-head and stands approximately 14cm tall (Hulkbuster stands approximately 20cm tall) and perfectly combines the movie characters’ designs with Touma’s distinctive art style!

In celebrating the launch of this new collectible series, a deluxe set will be available that includes the powerful Hulkbuster and Mark XLIII (Battle Damaged Version) which is exclusive to this figures set.

These Artist Mix Figures will look great on your shelves or desk, so don’t miss the chance to expand your Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron collection!

*More about Touma:
Touma is a Japanese toys character designer. He started his career at a video game company 10 years ago. In 2001, he established his own workshop and started to become a figurine artist. He had his solo exhibitions and autograph sessions not only in Japan, but also in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and America. He collaborated with many major brands such as MONSTER HUNTER, STAR WARS, TRANSFORMERS, AVP, GODZILLA, POWER RANGERS, and more.

Recently, Touma and his 3D animation partner Shiroma collaborated with Hot Toys for the first time to ignite the Artist Mix Collection series to further expand the diversity of mini figures collection. The series is based on the 2015 Marvel Studios blockbuster, Avengers: Age of Ultron, which perfectly blends the iconic characters with Touma’s unique design style.

kevin-smith-to-direct-segment-in-new-horror-anthology-film-holidays

Thanks to Trick 'r Treat, we've seen a surge of horror anthology films, and we have a new one coming our way. It's called Holidays, and as you might expect from the title, each segment of the film will be based on holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and Mother’s Day. What better way to pay tribute to the holidays than with all kinds of crazy bloody awesomeness. We even have a poster for the movie.

There are several directors attached to the project, and they include Kevin Smith (Clerks), Gary Shore (Dracula Untold), Scott Stewart (Legion, Priest), Matt Johnson (The Dirties), Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch (Starry Eyes), Nicholas McCarthy (At The Devil’s Door), Sarah Smith (The Midnight Swim) and Anthony Scott Burns.

The news comes from Deadline, who got the following statement from financier and producer John Hegeman:

"Holidays is a great opportunity for some of the most creative and twisted minds in the genre space today to really let loose and have fun."

I'm looking forward to learning more about the movie, and I'll keep you updated on any new details.

5-Foot-Long LEGO USS Enterprise Built with 18,000 Bricks

5-foot-long-lego-uss-enterprise-built-with-18000-bricks

This LEGO 5-foot-long replica of the NCC-1701 USS Enterprise is simply stunning. It was created by Chris Melby over the course of 8 months using 18,000 LEGO bricks. One of the crazy things about this thing is the fact that it hides all of the little LEGO studs. That's not easy to do with any LEGO model build. He talked about the build, saying:

"I realized that to truly capture the essence of something complex with bricks, it would have to be with layers.  So, with that idea in hand, I slaved back and forth in these key areas to find the ultimate combination of structure and style, grain and layer, until I was finally satisfied I had represented this iconic vessel."

I don't have the patience to do anything like this, but Melby freakin' killed it, and gave us something jaw-droppingly cool.

Bryan Cranston Could Be The Villain in STAR TREK 3, Plus New Character Details

$
0
0

Let's kick this off by saying that none of this is confirmed. Now that that's out of the way, Film Divider has come across some info about Paramount's upcoming Star Trek 3 that is very interesting. The juiciest bit is that the villain in this sequel is supposedly "Bryan Cranston-like, to the point that Cranston himself has had words with the studio about taking the role." That's far from a confirmation, but imagining Cranston - who has proven to be one of the most versatile and entertaining actors working today - chewing some space scenery is pretty exciting.

But regardless of who ends up playing the film's big bad, there are some more details that should make people happy who were disappointed in the (some say gratuitous) shot of Alice Eve in lingerie in Star Trek Into Darkness. Film Divider's intel indicates that there are going to be three new female roles in the movie, and all three of them sound like capable, legitimate characters. (In 2015, we really shouldn't be shocked when we hear news of strong female roles being written into massive blockbusters, but the fact that it's still something of a surprise gives you a good idea of how much work the industry still has to do in terms of equality.) The three new roles are:

The President of the Federation: This role has never been held by a woman before, but there's no reason why it shouldn't be. Hopefully the part will be a bit more substantial than Tyler Perry's role in this franchise (not that Perry was bad in J.J. Abrams' 2009 movie, he just didn't have much to do).

A female captain of a Federation ship: The production is supposedly looking for an actress set up as an equal to Chris Pine's Captain Kirk, so they'll be looking for charismatic, energetic young women to fill the part. This sounds like it could be a fun character.

And finally, Leonard "Bones" McCoy's ex-wife: Karl Urban's Bones is one of my favorite parts of Abrams' two Star Trek films, but he's been mostly relegated to the sidelines in favor of stories that put Kirk, Spock, and Uhura at the center. I'm glad to hear that Bones' ex-wife is being brought into the fray, because that will obviously mean more screen time for Urban and something for him to do other than stand there and do an admittedly-great DeForest Kelley impression.

What do you think about this new information? Interested in seeing Cranston possibly play a villain? Who would you like to see in the three new female roles? Sound off below.

First Footage From Marvel's DAREDEVIL Debuts, Teaser Trailer Drops Tomorrow

I'm still not thrilled with the idea of "trailers for trailers," but people seem to dig them and it helps build anticipation for big movies or TV shows, so we'll throw out a few of them here and there when they're warranted. In the case of this quick teaser from Marvel's upcoming Netflix series Daredevil, I think it's warranted because it's the first time we've seen this version of Daredevil in action. We've seen a few photos from the production, but this is the first look at the character in motion in his early version of the suit, which is reminiscent of Batman's early costume in Batman Begins (a connection that makes sense, considering the fantastic work Frank Miller did in the comics for both properties). Take a look below, and be sure to come back tomorrow to get a look at the full first teaser trailer for the show.

Daredevil is available on Netflix starting April 10th.

"Marvel's Daredevil" is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

We haven't seen any footage yet, but the 24th James Bond film, Spectre, arrives in theaters on November 7th of this year. I'm currently making my way through all of the old Bond films in preparation for the new movie, and this infographic by Maxime Donzel and Cédric Audinot is a great way to break down all the ladies that interacted with 007 over the years. (There's another Bond girl infographic out there that we've written about in the past, but that one isn't nearly as informative.) Do any of these statistics surprise you?

Thanks to Maxime for sending it our way.

Actor Ryan Gosling stepped behind the camera for the first time for Lost River, a surreal film that weaves "elements of fantasy noir and suspense into a modern day fairytale." It debuted at last year's Cannes Film Festival, and even though it didn't get a great reception, the movie is still going to be available for us to see as it enters limited release and hits VOD this spring. The question is: do you actually want to see it? The first full trailer has dropped, and it's...well, it's something, all right. Take a look for yourselves below.

Lost River stars Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn, and Eva Mendes.

Felicity Jones in Talks to Join STAR WARS Standalone Film

felicity-jones-in-talks-to-join-star-wars-standalone-film

Lucasfilm and Disney have quietly been holding auditions for one of the upcoming Star Wars standalone films that they're developing. According to THR, they are looking to cast Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) in the lead female role.

Jones is in talks to join the highly-anticipated the Star Wars project, which is the one being directed by Gareth Edwards from a script being written by Chris Weitz, who was recently hired to replace Gary Whitta, who wrote the first draft.

A week ago it was reported that Jones was testing for the film along with Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). THR also reports that Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are on the studio's list for the male lead. There were already rumors of Paul being considered, but this is the first time that Ramirez's name has been thrown into the mix (at one point, he was being considered for Doctor Strange).

There's a dark cloud of secrecy surrounding this film project, and we have no solid details of what characters will be involved or what the story will entail. However, there are reports of the film revolving around a bounty hunter heist plot line that you can read about here.

Jones is an incredible young actress, and it would be fantastic if she ended up being cast in this movie. She would perfectly fit in with the Star Wars universe.

Disney Princesses Meet Iconic Movie Villains

It seems like there's a big contingent of our audience that loves seeing alternate versions of Disney Princesses, but they might not be so thrilled with this set of art from José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros. It features the fresh-faced animated Disney gals coming face to face with iconic movie villains like The Joker, Michael Myers, Freddy, and Hannibal Lecter, and it doesn't exactly look like they're going to get a fairytale ending after meeting those guys. (Just take a look at Tinkerbell to see what we mean.) I'm not sure old Walt would have been too happy about these. Check them out below!

The first of WWE 2K15’s three Showcase DLC packs released today, called One More Match. The pack focuses on Christian's feud with Randy Orton, but also includes interactions with Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Mark Henry, and Edge. Christian and Edge are new to the game, and each of the other three get new attires. Christian has always been entertaining, and now that he’s retired (due to increased frequency of concussions), this is a good chance to see one of his strongest runs in the company. I have to admit I wasn't that excited for this showcase, but due to one of WWE's stellar production videos (which you can see below) I have changed my mind on that. You can download the One More Match pack right now for $9.99, and is also included in the Season Pass.

Check. I almost clicked away, but I'm really glad I stuck it out because this video goes off the rails in a huge way and turns into something totally unexpected. I don't want to say any more than that because it'll ruin the surprise, but trust me - stick around until the end.

ARROW: First Look at Brandon Routh as The Atom

After much hype from Arrow's showrunners and costume designer, we finally get to see Brandon Routh in costume as The Atom. Ever since Ray Palmer (played by Routh) appeared on the Arrow, he's kind of been the anti-Arrow. He's a self-made billionaire, highly proficient with technology, a sharp businessman, and when he becomes a superhero you can clearly see his face.

I saw someone say that this role is a huge superhero downgrade for Routh, but I think Palmer/Atom on Arrow is far more interesting than the Superman we saw in Superman Returns. As for the suit, I like it's functional feel and how it's more Edge of Tomorrow than Iron Man. I've enjoyed this season of Arrow and can't wait to see the Atom armor in action.

Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, and Jimmy Fallon Are Photobomb Kings

When I was in high school, I often wore a cape and a mask and leap-frogged over unsuspecting students in the hallways in between classes. My alter ego was "The Phantom Frogger," and when I graduated, I left my cape and mask in my locker in an effort to pass the mantle on to a new generation. (Not a joke. All of this is 100% real.)

I've rarely seen anyone else attempt the leap over an upright individual, so I was pleased to witness Captain America himself (Chris Evans) perfectly execute the move over the shoulders of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) in a new video from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon recruited the two Marvel alums to photobomb a ton of fans at the Super Bowl, and the three of them were able to pull off some pretty excellent moves without the subjects knowing they were there. (Pratt and Evans had a big Super Bowl bet, which you can read about here.) Pretty impressive moves, guys.

I was such a huge fan of Nirvana when I was in high school. I listened to their albums Nevermind and In Utero over and over again. I even have all of their songs memorized. Back in the day I even wore the holey jeans and sported the white t-shirt and a flannel button up shirt. I was a '90s alternative rock kid who loved reading comic books, watching movies, playing video games, and listening to music.

I remember the day when I found out Kurt Cobain commuted suicide like it was yesterday. I couldn't believe it, and I was devastated. I freakin' loved his music so much. It was stuff that I just really connected with. Even as I write this review I'm listening to their album MTV Unplugged In New York, which is still incredible.

I had no idea what was going on in Cobain's personal life at the time, and I didn't care. I just thought he was an incredible artist and musician. It was kind of strange and surreal that all of these years later thanks to this documentary called Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, I finally get some insight into the life of a man whose music I loved.

It has been almost been 21 years since Cobain died, and now after watching this documentary I've learned more about him than I wanted to. The movie presents Cobain's life story in his own words, which come from his diary entries, audiotapes, home movies, and art, and of course, there are interviews with his mom, dad, sister, Courtney Love, and bandmate and friend Krist Novoselic.

It's really a deep and dark intimate look into the life of this artist. I could tell through his music that he must have been a pretty messed up individual, but until now I had no idea how messed up he really was. It was really scary and sad seeing how bad he got. Through his journal entries and audiotapes you really get a sense that this guy was on a trajectory that didn't have a happy ending. It's guess it's not entirely his fault, though.

The movie starts off with home movies of him as a happy little kid, but as soon as Ritalin came into the picture, things took a turn for the worse. His parents eventually separated, and he was so much to handle that neither one of them wanted to take him in, so he ended up in the wrong places with the wrong people. He tells a story of when he was young how he sat on some railroad tracks waiting for the train to run him over, but he was on the wrong set of tracks and the train missed him. That gave him the motivation to keep going. Music became his outlet, and damn, he was great at it! But his introduction to heroin was the beginning of the end. It was really sad watching Cobain strung out of his mind holding his little girl while she got her hair cut. The music eventually took a backseat to heroin, and at one point his aspiration in life was to just be a junkie.

Seeing the devolution of this man who was evolving musically and finding success at the same time was hard to watch, especially when it was someone I somewhat idolized when I was a teenager. One of the more tender moments in the film, though, was Cobain, at 25, shortly before his death in the bathroom with his spouse. Love is bathing their daughter, and she says, "I feel kind of happy right now." Cobain happily agrees with her, and it shows a spark of life and hope.

This is truly a powerful film that that will bring out some intense emotions of any fan of Cobain's music. It is packed full of strongly profound material that will make you look at how you are living your own life. Like many of you, when Cobain died on April 8th, 1994, I grieved for an icon. But with this film, people can now grieve for a son, a father, a husband, and a man.

The doc was directed by Brett Morgen, and here's the synopsis:

Experience Kurt Cobain like never before in the first fully authorized portrait of the famed rock music icon. Director Brett Morgen expertly blends Cobain's personal archive of art, music, and never-before-seen home movies with animation and revelatory interviews with his family and closest confidants. Following Kurt from his earliest years in Aberdeen, Washington, through the height of his fame, a visceral and detailed cinematic insight of an artist at odds with his surroundings emerges.
While Cobain craved the spotlight even as he rejected the trappings of fame, his epic arc depicts a man who stayed true to his earliest punk rock convictions, always identifying with the "outsider" and ensuring the music came first.
Fans and those of the Nirvana generation will learn things about Cobain they never knew while those who have recently discovered the man and his music will know what makes him the lasting icon that he is.
