stephen-king-and-david-e-kelley-team-up-for-mr-mercedes-limited-series

Stephen King has teamed up with David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal) to adapt his novel Mr. Mercedes into a limited series. This is one of the few books King has written that I haven’t had a chance to read yet. The story centers on a psychopath who commits mass murder by driving his Mercedes into a crowd, and it follows a retired cop who makes it his mission to bring him to justice. Kelley had this to say in a statement:

“This is an amazing opportunity to adapt a script from material penned by one of the world’s most acclaimed and accomplished authors. ‘Mr. Mercedes’ is a great story that will translate beautifully to the screen if I don’t mess it up.”

This sounds like it could make for a fantastic series to watch. It will be directed by Jack Bender, who previously worked on shows like Lost and Under the Dome. King had this to say about the talented team bring his story to life:

“I’ve admired Jack Bender’s work for years, both as a director on ‘Lost’ and, later, ‘Under the Dome,’ where he really caught the suspense element. David Kelley is incredibly gifted. I’m excited to work with these amazing talents.”

Below you’ll find a more detailed description of the story from the book:

In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.
In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.
In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the “perk” and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.
Brady Hartsfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady’s next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.
Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Warner Bros. Animation has released the first trailer for their upcoming DC Entertainment feature-length film Batman Vs. Robin. This movie looks like it's going to be really cool. The animation is really well done, and it tells an intriguing story. The movie is being directed by Jay Oliva, who has directed five previous DC Animation features, and the story will revolve around a secret society named the Court of Owls, which dates back to the early days of Gotham City. They kidnap children and raise them to be assassins. It will obviously incorporate elements of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's comic series.

The voice cast for the film features Jason O'Mara (Sons of Liberty) returning as BatmanStuart Allen (Bad Teacher) as Robin; Sean Maher (Arrow) coming back for Nightwing; David McCallum (NCIS) as Alfred; Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under) as Talon; voice actor Grey Griffin as a mysterious character known only as Samantha; Al Yankovic as The Dollmaker; Robin Atkin Downes (Superman vs. The Elite) as Grandmaster; Peter Onorati as a character named Draco; and last but not least, Kevin Conroy will cameo as Thomas Wayne.

Batman Vs. Robin will have its world premiere at WonderCon 2015, which runs April 3rd to the 5th in Anaheim. Thanks to IGN for the trailer!

BATMAN VS. DEXTER Fan Film

Batman Vs. Dexter is a fan film directed by Mike Donis. It definitely has an interesting concept, following Dexter as he goes to Gotham City to play around and to see if Batman actually exists. The short has amateur production value and the audio isn't the best, but the director treats the subject matter seriously, and it's kind of cool seeing these two psychopaths encounter each other. Dexter does seem like he would fit right in with the rogue gallery of Batman villains. This really is a great story concept that I think could be executed perfectly in a comic book series. Donis does an ok job, but it could be a lot better.

New Details and Photo for TALES OF HALLOWEEN Anthology Horror film

I’ve been enjoying all of these horror anthology films that we’ve been seeing in recent years like V/H/S, Trick ‘R Treat, and ABCs of Death. A couple of months ago it was announced that another one was coming called Tales of Halloween. We now have some additional details to share with you, including the titles of all the segments.

The film will consist of ten segments from eleven directors. It will be an interconnected series of stories, and the stories will all be set in "a sleepy American suburb terrorized by ghouls, aliens, and killers one Halloween night."

The directors lined up to direct segments for the movie include Neil Marshall (The Descent), Darren Bousman (Saw II, III and IV), Joe Begos (Almost Human), Axelle Carolyn (Soulmate), Adam Gierasch (Night of the Demons), Andrew Kasch (Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy), John Skipp (Stay at Home Dad), Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider!), Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red), Ryan Schifrin (Abominable), and Paul Solet (Grace).

These directors have created some rules for themselves to follow as they create their films, which are based on the values of Halloween night. The directors will not be frugal with special effects, props, and musical score.

Epic Pictures Co-Founder and producer Shaked Berenson said:

“In Tales of Halloween, every role is filled with iconic figures like John Landis and Stuart Gordon. It’s a big bloody love letter made by horror fans for horror fans.”

Some of the cameos in the film include Joe Dante, John Landis, Adam Green, Adam Pascal, Adrianne Curry, Mick Garris, Lombardo Boyer, Graham Skipper, Stuart Gordon, Greg McLean, Spooky Dan Walker, Adrienne Barbeau, and even The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s Barry Bostwick, who you can see in the photo above.

Here are the titles of the film segments along with the person who is directing each one:

“TRICK” Directed by Adam Gierasch

“BAD SEED” Directed by Neil Marshall

“GRIMM GRINNING GHOST” Directed by Axelle Carolyn

“THE WEAK AND THE WICKED” Directed by Paul Solet

“FRIDAY THE 31st” Directed by Mike Mendez

“THE RANSOM OF RUSTY REX” Directed by Ryan Schifrin

“THIS MEANS WAR” Directed by Andrew Kasch and John Skipp

“THE NIGHT BILLY RAISED HELL” Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman

“SWEET TOOTH” Directed by Dave Parker

“DING DONG” Directed by Lucky McKee

The movie has potential to be insanely fun, and I’m really excited to see how it turns out!

2 TV Spots for FIFTY SHADES OF GREY

There’s a lot of curiosity about director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s adaptation of the novel Fifty Shades of Grey. The E.L. James erotic tale has captured the imagination of woman all over the world, and the movie is sure to be a big success. It was recently reported that it's the fastest selling rated-R movie in Fandango history. I guess that's saying something.

A global phenomenon, Fifty Shades of Grey was first published in 2011 and follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey (Dornan) and college student Anastasia Steele (Johnson). Subsequent novels in the series, “Fifty Shades Darker” (2011) and “Fifty Shades Freed” (2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship. The trilogy has been translated in over 50 languages worldwide since its release. To date, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold over 70 million copies worldwide in e-book and print, making it one of the fastest-selling book series ever.

The film stars Jamie Dornan (Marie Antoinette, Shadows in the Sun), Dakota Johnson (Need for Speed), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Luke Grimes (Taken 2), Victor Rasuk (Godzilla), Eloise Mumford (In the Blood), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Rita Ora (Southpaw), Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River, Into the Wild), and Callum Keith Rennie (Memento). It's set to open in theaters on February 13th, 2015. Do you already have your ticket!?

FRIDAY THE 13TH Reboot Update Confirms the Obvious

friday-the-13th-reboot-update

Producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are currently in the process of developing another reboot of Friday the 13th for Platinum Dunes. In an interview with Collider, Form gives a little update and confirms that Jason will be coming back to the big screen to kill a bunch of stupid drunken horny teenagers in the woods.

“Just working on the script still. Hoping to make that movie this year and Brad, I’m gonna confirm that Jason is in the movie. There was a rumor out there that Jason was not in it…”

Fuller reiterated…

“Jason is in the movie, that is confirmed.”

Why wouldn’t Jason be in the movie? He has become the iconic staple of the franchise. Was there a time when they weren't going to include Jason? I think it's funny that they are confirming the obvious. The last thing I heard about the movie was that the producers were taking pitches for a found footage version of the franchise. I always enjoyed watching the original films, but the last reboot sucked, and I’m not convinced that this next one will be any better. The movie is set to be released on November 13th, and it will be directed by David Bruckner (V/H/S).

full-trailer-for-penny-dreadful-season-2

Showtime has released a full trailer for the second season of their fantastically dark series Penny Dreadful. This is a great show and a must watch for anyone who is into gothic horror. The first season was fantastic, and the upcoming season looks great. Here’s the synopsis for Season 2, as well as some additional information:

The new season will see Vanessa (Green) and Ethan (Hartnett) forming a deeper bond as the group, including Sir Malcolm (Dalton), Dr. Frankenstein (Treadaway), and Sembene (Sapani), unite to banish the evil forces that threaten to destroy them. Meanwhile, Dorian Gray (Carney), the Creature (Kinnear) and Brona (Piper) are all waging battles of their own.
Guest stars include Patti LuPone as “a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa’s past.” Helen McCrory will return as Evelyn Poole (Madame Kali), a spiritualist who will “pose a unique threat to our protagonists”. Simon Russell Beale will play an “eccentric Egyptologist” named Ferdinand Lyle. Other guest stars include Douglas Hodge as a Scotland Yard investigator; Sarah Greene as Poole’s powerful daughter, Hecate; and Johnny Beauchamp as “a man with a singular past.”

Series creator, executive producer, and writer John Logan said in a statement,

“This season Vanessa and Ethan face new challenges, and old enemies, and turn to each other for solace. Their intimacy grows as they are forced to confront their demons together.”

The series is set to return on Sunday, April 26th at 10pm ET/PT.

AMERICAN SNIPER Featurette Focuses on Story and Chris Kyle

Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper’s American Sniper is the best film that I’ve seen this year. Of course, I’ve only seen a couple of them since the new year started. Had I watched it in 2014 though it would have ended up on my list of 15 favorite movies of the year. Cooper gives the best performance of his career in this incredible and insanely inspiring film.

I’ve got a featurette for you to watch that focuses on the story of the movie, and the man that it's about, Chris Kyle. The video features some additional footage from the film as well as interviews with Eastwood, Cooper, and Kyle’s widow, Taya.

As soon as you get the opportunity go out and see this film! It’s pretty powerful stuff. It gets a wide release this week.

Artist Mohammed Z. Mukhtar created a set of Batman redesigns showing some futuristic versions of the Dark Knight. Each design has a similar style and color scheme, but they all have slight variations in the costume's construction. They're all really cool, though, and I love what the style artist is going for. AMC has announced that the final seven episodes of Mad Men's seventh and final season will start to air on Sunday, April 5th at 10pm. I’ve been a fan of Mad Men from the beginning, but so far this season hasn’t really grabbed me. Hopefully these final episodes bring it home and give the series a great ending. Creator Matthew Weiner said in a statement,

"What an incredible journey this has been. We sincerely thank the fans for joining us on this ride and hope it has meant as much to them as it has to us."

Then there’s Bates Motel, which has had two freakin’ fantastic seasons. A&E has announced that the third season will debut on Monday, March 9th at 9pm. The upcoming season will focus on “the evolution of the Bates family and dives head first into Norman’s waning ability to stay in denial about what’s happening to him and the lengths he will go to gain control of his fragile psyche.”

Bates Motel has been one of my favorites to watch, and I’m confident that the creative team is going to give fans another intense and awesomely twisted season.

ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING Remake Coming to Disney Channel

adventures-in-babysitting-remake-coming-to-disney-channel

The 1987 comedy Adventures in Babysitting is getting a remake for the Disney Channel. I really liked the original Elizabeth Shue movie when I was younger, probably because I had a crush on her. This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard about the classic '80s flick being remade, though. Back in 2007 there was news that Raven Symone was going to star in the remake, but she’s no longer involved.

The movie follows the further adventures in babysitting and “recounts a dull evening for two competing babysitters, Jenny, played by Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World), and Luci, played by Sofia Carson (Descendants), that turns into an adventure as they hunt for a kid who somehow snuck away.”

The original film was great, and there’s no way the remake will be as good. The first movie was rated PG-13 and contained the F-word twice, which is a big deal for a PG-13 movie. You can’t get away with that these days. The movie also took the adventure to some very shady parts of the city and included sexual situations and violence.

There’s no way that Disney is going to have any of that stuff in the remake. The kiddies will enjoy it, though.

Fox Wants to Bring Back THE X-FILES!

The X-Files is hands down one of my favorite shows of all time, and since the series ended in 2002 I’ve been wishing that one day it would make a comeback on TV. I’m so freakin’ excited to tell you that this might actually happen!

Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman made the announcement at the channel’s TCA presentation, where he says that they are discussing the opportunity to revive Chris Carter’s brilliant sci-fi show as a limited series, much like they did with 24. Newman said that they want to bring back David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. There's no confirmation that they will return, but I sure hope they do. The X-Files just wouldn’t be The X-Files without them.

Over the last few years the two actors have both said that they would love to reprise their roles, so if this actually goes through, I think that it's safe to assume that they will be jumping on for the ride. I actually like the idea of a limited series more than seeing another movie. They will be able to tell a much bigger and more in-depth story through a limited series event.

There are no other details at this point, but it would be the most incredible thing if the revival actually went through. Please, oh please, let this happen! You can bet your ass I'll be keeping you updated on this news as it develops.

Mark Hamill on Walking Onto the Millennium Falcon Again and More

Looks like Jedi Master Luke Skywalker will be riding on the Millennium Falcon again in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. During a brief interview with Extra, Mark Hamill talked about what it was like to be back on the iconic ship. He also discusses George Lucas' happiness and the new generation that will be bringing future Star Wars films to life.

On the Millennium Falcon:

"Can I say this? Is this out? Yeah, the déjà vu of walking onto the Millennium Falcon again and remembering all these details that they've got exactly right from old photographs and old blueprints...I can't describe the feeling.  Even now it seems surreal to me.  It seems hard to believe that it's actually happening."

On Lucas being unrecognizable:

"Seeing [George Lucas] this happy, he's almost unrecognizable.  Because when I was with him [on the original trilogy], he was fretting over all the details, so he didn't have time to enjoy himself.  To seem him in such a good place, it's thrilling."

On the new generation of filmmakers:

" [Star Wars] is now in the hands of the generation who were fans."

The next trailer for the film will be attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st, and it will give us our first look at Luke, Han, and Leia in the next chapter of the Star Wars saga. I'm so excited to see these characters back on the big screen together!

Last week we learned that that Kyle McLachlan will reprise his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper in the upcoming new season of Twin Peaks. David Lynch is bringing the series back to Showtime, and now two more cast members have been confirmed to return.

Sheryl Lee, who played both Laura Palmer and Maddy Ferguson, made the announcement that she and Dana Ashbook, who played Bobby Briggs, will be back for more fantastic weirdness. It’s really interesting that Lee is coming back because both of her characters died in the series. It will be interesting to see how they bring these characters into the upcoming series.

You can watch the two actors announce their return in the video below. During the Q&A it’s suggested that Sherilyn Fenn is also set to return as Audrey.

Lynch is set to direct all nine episodes of the series, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us!

Henry Cavill Calls BATMAN V SUPERMAN “Cinematic History” and Says He's Not Going Anywhere

henry-cavill-calls-batman-v-superman-cinematic-history-and-hes-not-going-anywhere

Like all of you, I’m really curious to see how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice turns out. Regardless of whether it’s good or bad, the movie is going to make an insane amount of money because it’s the first time ever that we will have seen these two iconic superheroes up on the big screen together. During a recent interview with The Daily Mail, star Henry Cavill discussed the upcoming film and said it will make cinematic history.

"It's Zack Snyder, so it's going to be a visual spectacle and it's cinematic history. We're doing Batman and we're doing Superman, and it's all happening at the same time. So, fingers crossed it turns out to be as exciting as I think it is."

I have no doubt that the movie movie will be an exciting visual spectacle. I’m just hoping that Snyder was able to pull off a good story that is better than Man of Steel. When asked if he had any advice for Ben Affleck about suiting up as Batman, he said,

"Right. We're talking about Ben Affleck here. I don't need to give him any advice. The guy's a legend. He does his own thing! He's great. He's fantastic."

In a separate interview with The Anglophile Channel the actor discussed his long term plans for Superman and explained that he hopes to play the character for years to come.

”As many as it takes. I love the character. I love working with Warner Bros. and what they're doing with it, and so fingers crossed I'll be able to tell the story for many, many years to come.”

Even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of Man of Steel, I still think Cavill makes an amazing Superman, so he can play the character for as long as he wants. My big thing is just making sure Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment handle the character in the right way moving forward. It will be interesting to see what other DC films he pops up in as WB is trying to build their cinematic universe over the years. It's cool to know that the actor is in it for the long haul!
