Watch the First 9 Minutes of SyFy’s 12 MONKEYS

watch-first-9-minutes-of-syfys-12-monkeys

The SyFy Channel has released the first nine minutes of their small screen series adaptation of 12 Monkeys. It actually looks really good! I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the episode. I was a little apprehensive about this show at first because I’m a fan of the original, but it’s starting to grow on me.

12 Monkeys follows the journey of a time traveler, Cole, from the post-apocalyptic future. Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, Cole arrives in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate 93.6% of the human race. Will Cole be able to save the fate of mankind or is mankind bound by fate? Taking place in the ravaged future of 2043 and the present day (2015), 12 Monkeys explores themes of destiny, fate, love and the possibility of second chances.

The series will make its premiere on Friday, January 16th at 9 pm ET/PT.

Michael C. Hall Cast in Disney's PETE'S DRAGON

Dexter star Michael C. Hall will reprise his role as our favorite serial killer in Disney's live action remake of Pete's Dragon! I'm totally just kidding, but that would be pretty funny. Seriously though, the actor has joined the film project, and he joins Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley, and newcomer Oakes Fegley as Pete.

The film revolves around Pete and his best friend Elliot, who is a dragon. The movie will not be a musical like the original 1977 version. This version will be more of a straight narrative, and the Dragon will be CGI.

David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) will direct from a script he wrote with Toby Halbrooks. I'm a big fan of Hall's work, and it is good to see that he landed another movie role.

Fans of Arrow and The Flash will be happy to know that The CW has officially renewed them for new seasons. Arrow will move into its fourth season, while The Flash will speed into its second season. It’s not really that surprising, as both superhero shows are pretty freakin’ awesome! There are also sure to be plans for more crossovers that may include Supergirl. The network also announced renewals for a few other shows including Supernatural’s eleventh season! CW President Mark Pedowitz said this in a statement:

"Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience. By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups."

You will find the announcement tweets below:

Comic Book Style FROZEN Fan Art

This is definitely one of the more badass pieces of fan art that I’ve seen created for Disney’s Frozen. The finished piece was created by comic artist Sean Ellery, with pencils by Chris Williams and inks by inker-guy. You can definitely see that it has a heavy comic book influence in the style, and I like the heroic poses of the characters. Here’s a comment that Ellery made about the piece:

“My 3 year old Grand Daughter; AJ [sic] recently got Frozen on DVD and I'll have you know I've only watched it with her Eleventy Billion times since then... (*sigh*) She has Frozen stuff *everywhere* now. Lunchbox, Water bottle, a dress, stickers... you name it.
"Anyway, I saw that Chris and Jake had drawn this one up and I asked Jake for the highres inks. AJ's (grand daughter) birthday is Feb 28th and so I'm going to get this one printed up about A2 size and framed for her bedroom wall."

This is just a really fun representation of these characters, and I hope you like it!

Marvel has released four more images from Ant-Man. Three photos feature Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man, and the fourth one features a high res image of some concept art for Yellowjacket. It seems like a lot fans are excited for this — a lot more than I thought there would be, especially after Edgar Wright left the project. But it’s hard to argue with such a cool looking trailer! This just looks like an incredibly fun movie. You can read up on several newly revealed details here.

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Pena, John Slattery, and Hayley Atwell star in the movie. Ant-Man is set to be released on July 17th, 2015.

"There are no strings on me."

Hot Toys has offered us our first look at the collectible action figure for the villain Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. As you can see, it’s just a teaser image, but the full reveal could be unleashed any day now. Last week the toy company teased the full line-up of new Avengers action figures that you can check out here. I really do need to own all of these. That is my goal for this year.

ARROW Spinoff Series for ATOM Being Discussed

The CW seems to be planning another spinoff series for Arrow based on Brandon Routh’s character Atom, a.k.a. Ray Palmer. The news for the Atom spinoff show first came in an interview with Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti, who told THR,

"We're in very early talks in a very general idea that we haven't gone deeper on yet.”

This is a great character, and I love Routh in the role. I can't wait to finally see him in costume, so it would be fun to see a series that centers on this character. Berlanti continued:

"We just love this universe and we want to keep growing it. We are trying to do more of what we enjoy, and it's true: the shows are so plentiful with characters and storylines. There's a region of the universe that we felt like we haven't dealt with yet that we'd like to deal with."
arrow-spinoff-series-for-atom-being-discussed5

Routh would return to reprise his role if they did move forward with the project. In a separate interview with The Nerdist, producer Marc Guggenheim went into more a little more detail on the potential series.

"The thing that we’ve been talking about is just how do we further expand the universe; and we love Brandon and we love having him on Arrow… He’s a joy to write. Brandon’s so terrific and embodies the role so well that when we talk about how to further expand things, he’s a natural person to talk about. It’s like Brandon said on the panel, originally when we met with him we just wanted to bring a great character onto the show and we wanted a great actor to play him. That’s really how it always starts. With the exception of Grant Gustin on Arrow last year, there’s never been a [decision] to bring in a character with the intention to spin them off. It’s always, 'What services the show the best?'"

The discussion them moved on to the costume that they are developing for Atom.

“Maya Mani did the design that she always does. It’s her best costume, and that’s really saying something. It’s coming together beautifully. Brandon just did his third fitting with it, and it’s the most ambitious costume we’ve ever done on the show. One of the things I like about it is we did it without consideration of a spinoff. We did it because this is a cool thing to have on Arrow.
“Our goal when we had an idea to do a super suit was ‘How do you do it in a way that’s not Iron Man?’ That’s the trick creatively. Because we don’t want to duplicate Iron Man, we want to do our own thing. So there’s a lot of practical elements to the costume that on Iron Man they have done with CG. We’re gonna do it practically."

As for when we will actually see the suit in Arrow, Guggenheim explained,

“It is only in so far in that it’s one of those things that I’ve got to get clearance to talk about. But I finally know. Unlike every other time I’ve done an interview, where it’s like, ‘It’s when the suit’s ready!’ [Laughs.] Now I finally know what episode it’s going to be.”

Of course, he doesn’t reveal when that will be. However, he does say that they are pushing the envelope with the costume and that they’re trying out some new stuff that they’ve never done before on the show. That should give fans something more to look forward to!

Homeless Astronaut Shoots for the Moon in Short Film

Shoot for the Moon is a charming short film that centers on a homeless astronaut who sets out for the moon “armed with nothing more than a travel case, some bottle rockets and a trolley-load of ambition.” The film comes from YouTuber Shut Up Infinity, and it also serves as a way to inspire people to support the explorers, innovators, and dreamers so that they can pressing forward and making the impossible possible. As the short says, “We might find the stars closer than we think."

2 Minute Trailer for BETTER CALL SAUL

“I don’t go looking for guilty people to represent… I mean who needs that aggravation… Right?”

AMC has released an extended two-minute trailer for their Breaking Bad spinoff series Better Call Saul, and this show looks like it’s gonna be great! This latest trailer gives us our best look yet at what’s in store for us, and I think Breaking Bad fans are going to be very happy with what they see. I know I am!

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in ‘Breaking Bad.’ The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “Criminal lawyer.” The series’ tone is dramatic, woven with dark humor.

Co-creator Vince Gilligan directed the first episode of the series, which will premiere on February 9th, 2015.

Rocket Raccoon was one of the best and most entertaining characters in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. We have a few years before we see this ballistic rodent up on the big screen again in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but in the meantime we've got talented fans out there like artist Jens Fielder, and of course the Marvel comic books, to keep the character alive.

New Details on ASH VS. EVIL DEAD Series

A few new details have surfaced regarding the upcoming Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell horror series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, which fans are all pretty freakin' excited about! The episodes will be half an hour long, and in an interview with IGN, Starz head Chris Albrecht talked about the upcoming series.

“The half hour idea was their idea. And I can tell you it’s a chock-full half hour.”

Well, it's good to know that those 30 minutes are going to be packed full of all kinds of great stuff. When asked where the series will shoot, he said,

“We are shooting it in New Zealand. We’ll have to import some cars that drive left hand and import some signs because it kind of takes place in classic American towns or cities.”

I'm curious about the show taking place in classic American towns and cities. It sounds like there's going to be some traveling going on. In a previous interview with EW, Campbell used The Walking Dead as a reference point and explained how it will be different.

"It’s about as big of a counterpart to Walking Dead as you could program because Walking Dead is unrelentingly grim and hugely popular. We’re going to give people a little of the old fashioned slapstick: horror and comedy. The beauty of Starz is there’s no content issues. Let’s face it: fans want the carnage and the mayhem. So we intend to give them quite the explosion of viscera. Most of it directed at me, unfortunately."

Campbell also talked about some of the other, younger characters that will be joining Ash on his adventure against the deadites, They haven't been cast yet, but he explained,

"One is a male-bonding situation, and the other is a father-figure deal, since Ash could have a daughter the same age as this character. Hopefully we’ll pull Ash out of his loner-veteran mode and get him back into being a human being again."

There has been speculation that the daughter could be the character Mia, who was played by Jane Levy in the Evil Dead remake. There's no confirmation of that, but I think it would be cool if that ended up being the case. As for when we will see the show premiere, Albrecht said,

“I think most likely it will be fourth quarter [of 2015]. End of third quarter, fourth quarter, something like that. We’ve got a lot of shows this year. We’re very, very excited.”

Groovy.

First Look at Lando Calrissian on STAR WARS REBELS

Another familiar face from the Star Wars universe will be joining Star Wars Rebels. According to Big Shiny Robot, Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian in the series. We've even got a couple of images that offer us our first look at the character in the show thanks to Twitter users Tim Veekhoven and Blue Leader

Lando will appear in the eleventh episode of Season 1, which is called called “Idiot’s Array.” In it "Zeb inadvertently loses the droid Chopper in a game of Sabacc to well-known gambler Calrissian, and a string of adventures ensue involving the crew of The Ghost and some gangsters."

You can watch Williams talk about reprising his character in the animated series at EW, along with some footage.

It's great that Williams came back to reprise his role in the series, and it would be even more awesome if he reprised his role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There's a chance that he could, but we've seen no official confirmation of that yet.

If you've been watching the show, have you been enjoying it?

Never-Before-Seen BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II Concept Art

0
0

As the calendar flipped from 2014 to 2015, you undoubtedly saw tons of references to Back to the Future Part II on social media - and that's not likely to change, considering this year marks the fictional anniversary of when Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) traveled to the future in the 1989 sequel. I rewatched BTTF Part II and Part III for the first time in years, and was struck at how bad Part II is in the "future" section. All of the actors adopt incredibly weird voices to try to distinguish their future characters from their 1985 and 1955 counterparts, and the whole thing is just an excuse for Old Biff to grab the almanac so the main thrust of the narrative can get going. But while I have my quibbles with the first half of the film, there's one thing that can be said without a doubt: the production design in the movie's version of 2015 is one of the most iconic depictions of the future ever committed to film.

Newsweek has just released some original, never-before-seen concept art for the movie from concept artist Edward Eyth, and we'll show a few of them to you below. Head to Newsweek to see all of them, but it's impressive to see how accurate Eyth and his team were when it comes to designing futuristic props for life in 2015. The implementation may not be exactly spot-on, but the ideas they had are fascinating and you can see just how close some of this stuff is to existing in our real world today.

Heart-Pounding Trailer for HOUSE OF CARDS Season 3

Last night, Kevin Spacey won his first Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a TV drama for his role in the Netflix series House of Cards. The actor has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award eight times in his career, and this was the second time he was nominated for Frank Underwood. His win for the part was well-deserved. This brand new spot definitely does its job of getting me pumped up for the upcoming season!

Netflix was ready for the win, and right after his acceptance speech they released an intense new trailer for House of Cards Season 3, and it came with the following caption:

“When the stakes are this high, Frank and Claire Underwood have but one option: fight to stay on top.”

The series returns on February 27th, 2015, and if you haven’t watched the first two seasons yet…what are you waiting for!?

Don't Wait For A GOONIES Sequel, Play It On Nintendo Today!

0

While teases of a Goonies sequel still echo throughout the hills of Hollywood, Goonies II has been circulating basement boxes and garage sales for years now. On a list of weird games during the original Nintendo era, Goonies II: The Fratellis Last Stand is for sure on the list for many reasons.

First off, there was never a Goonies video game on the Nintendo system. The original Goonies video game received a release on Nintendo VS. arcade cabinets and was so popular it received a sequel. So when this game released in the U.S. a year after the original Goonies left theaters, you expected it to be a sequel to the events of the film, right?

Things start out somewhat believably. The Fratellis have escaped from prison and kidnapped all of the Goonies but Mikey. You play as Mikey and must navigate your way through houses and dungeons to rescue your friends...and a mermaid named Annie. You accomplish this by running errands for complete strangers and beating the hell out of an old woman until she gives you a candle.

Playing as Mikey, you also encounter a fish man, superheroes, and an old man with the ability to warp time and space. Take that on top of the fact you must kill all the Fratellis with just a yo-yo and a slingshot, you'd think the Goonies would be more appreciative of your accomplishments...but alas...

Goonies never say die...but that's only because there are plenty of synonyms for it.

Goonies never say die...but that's only because there are plenty of synonyms for it.

Essentially, this game turns the beloved hero Mikey into a murderous vigilante whose friends think he's an asshole. It's a cult classic in either case, and worth a play if you are in the mood for something mind-bendingly frustrating. Why wait for Hollywood to squash your childhood memories when you can do it right now with a five dollar purchase?

First Trailer for Rob Thomas' New CW Series iZOMBIE

0
0

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is back with a new show on The CW. iZombie is a witty, original take on the zombie psychic detective genre, and the first trailer for the series has just been unveiled.

To me, this looks a little like a mixture of Tru Calling and Veronica Mars, and with Thomas leading the charge as the executive producer, you can definitely feel that Mars vibe coming from this show. For fans who were disappointed with last year's much-hyped Veronica Mars film, this could be a cool way to recapture some of what we loved about Thomas' earlier series, but wrapped up and displayed in a new package.

Rose McIver (“Masters of Sex,” “Once Upon a Time”) stars as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out… until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy. As one of the newly undead, Liv has devised a way to resist her baser urges to devour fresh human brains – she’s taken a job in the Seattle coroner’s office.  In this appropriately dead-end job, she can secretly snack on the brains of the many Jane and John Doe corpses that make a final stop in the morgue.  Liv remains resigned to an eternity without hope or purpose, until she realizes that with every brain she consumes, she retains a portion of that person’s memories, and she begins to experience visions from the point of view of the murder victims. It’s not the same as being alive again, but at least she can find purpose in her undead existence by helping to solve the murders of those who are indeed fully dead.

Thrilling POV Zombie Parkour Action Short - DYING LIGHT

pov-zombie-parkour-action-short-dying-light

We have an exhilarating zombie action short for you to watch today called Dying Light, which is based on the survival video game of the same name by Warner Bros. Interactive. Like the game, the short is presented in a first-person perspective, and it’s a really fun non-stop parkour-style zombie chase sequence.

Inspired by the highly-anticipated action survival game, Dying Light, this Real-Life Parkour video puts you in the POV of a runner and takes you on a frantic escape from zombies through the rooftops of Cambridge, UK. We had a lot of fun making this and cant wait to play the game when it comes out at the end of the month!

The film was directed by UK filmmaker Scott Bass. Here’s some information on the game:

The game is set in a vast and dangerous open world. During the day, you roam an urban environment devastated by a mysterious epidemic, scavenging for supplies and crafting weapons to help you defeat the hordes of mindless, flesh-hungry enemies the plague has created. At night, the hunter becomes the prey as the infected grow in strength and aggression – but even more lethal are the nocturnal, inhuman predators that leave their nests to feed. You will need to make use of all your skills and any available means to survive till dawn.

This turned out to be an entertaining and intense film, and I hope you enjoy it!

I don't see enough awesome G.I. Joe cosplay out at the geek conventions these days. The only character that I really ever see cosplayed is Cobra Commander, and occasionally I'll spot some of the Cobra guards. Cosplayer Scarlett Reign has taken on the challenge of dressing up as The Baroness, and she awesomely pulls it off! She looks absolutely stunning, and the outfit she's sporting is pretty badass. The series of photos you see here were taken by Crysco Photography. What do you think of the look!?
