Insane Trailer for WYRMWOOD: ROAD OF THE DEAD Is Like Mad Max Battling Zombies

$

A crazy-ass trailer has been released for a post-apocalyptic zombie film called Wormwood: Road of the Dead, which has been described as Mad Max meets Dawn of the Dead. I’m always up for a ridiculously over-the-top B-horror adventure, and this movie looks like it’s exactly that. It was directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, and here’s the synopsis:

Zombies invade the Australian Outback in this brain-splattered, Mad Max-meets-the-undead thrill ride. When an apocalyptic event turns everyone around him-including his wife and daughter-into marauding zombies, everyman mechanic Barry arms himself to the teeth, soups up his car, and hits the road in order to rescue his sister from a deranged, disco-dancing mad doctor. Bursting with high-octane car chases, crazy-cool homemade weaponry, and enough blood-and-guts gore to satisfy hardcore horror fans, WYRMWOOD: ROAD OF THE DEAD takes the zombie flick to bone-crunchingly berserk new heights.

The movie will get a limited theatrical release on February 13th. It obviously isn’t going to win an Oscar, but it looks like a hell of a fun flick.

STAR WARS Inspired Lightsaber Engagement Ring

If you’re looking to get married to a woman who is a hardcore Star Wars fan, I’ve found the perfect engagement ring for you! The design of the ring implements elements of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, and it's pretty stunning. We’ve posted a few Star Wars engagement rings over the years, but this one might just be the coolest looking one I’ve seen. It’s geeky, but extremely classy at the same time. The emeralds for the saber blade are a nice touch.

It was created by Etsy seller DTEK Designs and can be yours for $3,400. They also do custom design orders, so I image you can get a Darth Vader, Mace Windu, or Obi-Wan Kenobi ring, or any other kind of lightsaber ring if you really want one.

A great new TV spot has been released for the return of Arrow Season 3, and it looks like things are about to take a turn for the worse. If you haven’t watched the mid-season finale of Arrow yet, you might not want to watch this new spot as it contains spoilers.

Arrow is set to return on January 21st with an episode titled “Left Behind,” which is described as follows:

In the aftermath of Oliver’s fight with Ra’s al Ghul, Diggle and Arsenal continue to protect the city in the Arrow’s absence. However, after three days without hearing from Oliver, they begin to fear the worst may have happened to their friend. Felicity refuses to believe that Oliver could be dead until Merlyn pays the team a surprise visit. Thea suspects there is something more behind Oliver’s disappearance and asks Merlyn for a favor. Meanwhile, Ray tests a part of his new suit and Laurel takes up the mantle of the Black Canary.

The episode was directed by Glen Winter and written by Marc Guggenheim and Erik Oleson. It's comforting to know that good TV is coming back soon!

Interesting Darth Vader Redesign by Steve Wang

I have a really cool and interesting piece of Star Wars fan art for you to check out that features a redesign of Darth Vader. It was created by Steve Wang, and he simply calls it "Vader." He included the following note:

"Vader force controlling a lightstar/mini-deathstar."

I really like this design. Even though it gives us a very different look at the villain, it still manages to capture Vader's menacing spirit.

Trailer for Ryan Reynolds’ Serial Killer Film THE VOICES

Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming film The Voices is dark, twisted, humorous, and completely demented. I had the opportunity to see it at Sundance last year, and I really liked it. Not a lot of people share my feelings about it, as the movie isn’t for everyone. I think you might have to be a little messed up in the head to enjoy the movie like this, which I obviously am.

We have a trailer for the film to share with you, but I have to say that it gives a lot of the story for the film away, including a few surprises that I’m surprised that they put in the trailer. You can watch the trailer if you want, but it does kind of spoil the whole movie.

The story follows a very likable guy named Jerry (Reynolds) who kind of stumbles innocently into the role of a serial killer. What makes the movie even more interesting is that he's guided along the way by his evil talking cat and benevolent talking dog. Here's a little of what I had to say about the film in my review:

"It goes into some very black places, but at the same time you can't help laughing because it's seriously funny as hell. There's definitely a lot of uncomfortable laughter. Reynolds plays such a great character in this movie. He has to show a lot of range and be funny, dramatic, and psycho, and he pulls it off seamlessly. This could very well be one of Reynolds' best performances to date.
"The movie is extremely entertaining, but it is also so wrong on so many levels. If you think you can enjoy watching an insanely black comedy full of bloody scenes that a normal person might not want to see, them I'm sure you'll like the movie!"

The Voices co-stars Anna Kendrick, Gemma Arterton, and Jacki Weaver. It hits VOD and theaters February 6.

Guillermo del Toro Developing CARNIVAL ROW Series for Amazon

Back in 2005, Guillermo del Toro was looking to direct a film based on a script written by his Pacific Rim co-writer Travis Beacham called A Killing on Carnival Row. Like many of Del Toro's past projects, it kind of fell by the wayside. But, the project is being resurrected, and the director is developing it as a series for Amazon called Carnival Row.

The story follows a detective who "investigates a series of murders in a city where faeries and other mythical creatures co-exist with humans." Legendary Pictures ended up acquiring the property for the filmmaker, and now he's set to co-write the pilot with Beacham and Rene Echevarria (Terra Nova). Here's a description of the story from back in 2011:

The story takes place in a city named the Burgue, which exists in the future, but is a bit like 18th century London. Humans live side-by-side with other creatures, and a killer stalks the streets of a neighborhood called Carnival Row inhabited by faeries working in brothels. The murderer is killing faeries, cutting off their wings and leaving telltale puncture wounds in their necks.

Del Toro had this to say:

“We tried to do it for so long as a film that the rights reverted back to Travis as a basic story. And I’ve always talked about it to anyone that would listen. We always had too many ideas to fit into the feature. We can now really focus on the world and the politics of what it is to be a magical being in Victorian steampunk atmosphere where you are seen as a lesser being.”

Del Toro is also expected to direct the Amazon pilot before he jumps into Pacific Rim 2, which is scheduled to be released on April 7th, 2017. His next film, Crimson Peak, will be released by Warner Bros. on October 16th of this year. I love the stuff that this guy creates, and I'm sure that Carnival Row will turn out to be something that his fans will enjoy.

Artist Andy Fairhurst has created this awesome poster series that pays tribute to the Back to the Future trilogy. The art was created for the Bottleneck Gallery and will soon go on sale at their shop. This is some pretty stunning work that is a must have for any fan of the classic '80s time travel franchise. I love how in each piece the DeLorean splits the two time frames that the stories take place in.

Liam Neeson Discusses Qui-Gon Jinn STAR WARS Spinoff Film

$

There were certain aspects of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace that I liked, and Liam Neeson's character, Qui-Gon Jinn, was one of them. He was just an interesting a likable character. Even though he died in the film he was brought back in The Clone Wars animated series, where he appeared to Obi-Wan and Anakin. He was the Jedi who figured out how to become one with the Force, and retain his identity as a ghost.

Durring an interview with Yahoo, the actor was asked if he would be up for making a Qui-Gon Jinn Star Wars spinoff film. He says "yes," and you can tell that he very proud of the character. At the same time, he does raise the question of how they would do it since Jinn is dead.

I seriously doubt that we'll ever see a Qui-Gon Jinn spinoff movie. But, if it ever did happen it would have to be a prequel with a younger actor taking on the role of the character. It could be cool to see him as the apprentice to Count Dooku. Or it could be a movie that features his ghost on some kind of epic Jedi adventure with the ghosts of Yoda, Anakin, and Obi-Wan. At least, that's the only way I think Neeson could come back to reprise his role, unless he was resurrected somehow.

I do think there's a chance his the character could pop up in any of these future films as a Jedi ghost. Do you think that Neeson will ever reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn, even if it's not a spinoff film?

The best calendar for 2015 was released in 1981 by Marvel Comics! This was a fan club anniversary calendar that was put together by Stan Lee 34 years ago, and all of the days and dates perfectly align with all of the days and dates of this year. It's pretty freakin' awesome, and it features some really spectacular artwork from legendary comic artists such as Bill Sienkiewicz, Joe Sinnott, John Romita Jr., Frank Miller, and George Perez. A big thanks to cartoonist Mark Anderson, who scanned the calendar for everyone to enjoy! I guess that means you can use any calendar from 1981 for 2015. If you find one cooler than this, let me know!

Liam Neeson Kicks More Ass in First RUN ALL NIGHT Trailer

From all accounts, Taken 3 is a terrible movie. I'm refusing to see it because I absolutely hated the second one so much, and I think director Olivier Megaton is one of the worst directors working today. I've written before about how I'd like to see Liam Neeson branch out from his action niche and try something different, but if he's going to keep making films in which he's the grizzled badass, at least they won't all be directed by Megaton.

Neeson reunited with his Unknown and Non-Stop director Jaume Collet-Serra for Run All Night, a new action film that pits Neeson against a mob boss played by Ed Harris. There are shades of Lucky Number Slevin in here (an underrated film I love), and the trailer indicates that the addition of Joel Kinnaman as Neeson's character's son will provide a bit of variation in the action formula this time around. Watch the first trailer below, and check out some new photos from the movie if you're interested.

Run All Night hits theaters on April 17th.

Gorgeous, Mind-Bending Sci-Fi Short Film - ATROPA

Filmmaker Eli Sasich co-wrote and directed Atropa, this beautiful sci-fi short film reminiscent of Alien and Event Horizon. Anthony Bonaventura plays a space detective who discovers a ship floating in the middle of nowhere, and he quickly finds out that things aren't what they seem. The cinematography is often breathtaking (the steely blue color palette is especially effective), and the CGI and sets are extremely impressive for what I can only assume is a pretty small budget. According to io9, this is a proof-of-concept short, so hopefully Sasich gets this project in front of the right people so one day we can find out what happens in the rest of the story.

What do you think?

We have another trailer for Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi robot film Chappie for you to watch, and it's simply stunning. This movie looks so damn awesome and the new trailer offers up a ton of exciting new footage from it, giving us a better sense of what the story entails. We also have a more in-depth look at the character played by Hugh Jackman, and what his role is. Here's a synopsis:

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

The movie hits theaters on March 6th, and it also stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, and Sigourney Weaver.

Listen to Liam Neeson Prank Call Maggie Grace's Ex-Boyfriend As His TAKEN Character

I met Liam Neeson briefly for an interview when The Grey came out, and I was surprised to find that in real life, he's actually a very quiet guy. His recent batch of films, most of which involve him angrily threatening bad guys, paint an entirely different picture of the guy, and hey - that's what acting is all about. But the real Neeson isn't afraid to get scary if the situation calls for it.

His Taken co-star Maggie Grace went on Conan O'Brien's talk show and revealed that after a particularly bad break-up with an ex-boyfriend, Neeson offered his particular set of skills as a way to try to make things right. Check out what happened in the video below, and try to imagine being the guy who received that phone call and trying not to crap yourself out of pure fear.

SUPERGIRL Series Deal Was Made with ARROW and FLASH Crossover in Place

supergirl-series-deal-was-made-with-arrow-and-flash-crossover-in-place

We've already heard that there is going to be a good chance that the new Supergirl TV series would crossover with Arrow and The Flash - especially due to the fact that they'll all be sharing the same universe. This has all kind of been confirmed in a recent interview with Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim, indicating that is the direction they are looking to take the new show. He says it's definitely possible.

The report goes on to say that when writer and producer Greg Berlanti made his deal with DC Entertainment to do Supergirl at CBS, it was in his contract that the character could appear on Arrow and The Flash. So there was definitely some forward thinking on his part on where he envisioned Supergirl and the rest of the DC TV universe.

Doing this would definitely benefit the networks, and drive ratings for each of the shows up. It's a win-win scenario, especially since CBS and Time Warner each own 50% of The CW.  That fact alone makes all of this very probable.

The series will center on Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, "who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

I'm looking forward to seeing how this all plays out, but it seems like it could be a lot of fun for the team of people developing the series.

One of my favorite parts of going to conventions like Comic-Con or WonderCon is seeing all the amazing cosplay. It seems like each year, more and more attendees are coming in costume. Something I've also noticed is the amount of families that are into cosplay. With parents suiting up, I can easily see kids wanting to get in on the fun. Here's a collection curated over a few months of kids doing really great cosplay. Bravo to their parents for fabricating well-made costumes.

Producer Frank Marshall Has No Plans For A BOURNE Crossover With Damon and Renner

$
0
0

I enjoyed about 65% of The Bourne Legacy, the Jeremy Renner-starring spin-off of the original Bourne trilogy. The entire third act was a complete joke, but I was with it up until that point, and I thought it did a pretty good job pulling back the curtain to reveal some larger scheming and machinations that had been going on during the events of the first three films. Universal was all set to put out a sequel to that film with Justin Lin on board to direct, but against all odds, they were able to convince Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon to return to reprise their roles as director and star (respectively) in a brand new Bourne film, so the Legacy sequel was pushed back.

Considering that the two films already share the same cinematic universe (something that's all the rage in Hollywood right now), and that you have two Oscar-caliber actors attached in lead roles, common sense would point to a crossover film in which Jason Bourne (or David Webb, if you want to get technical about it) meets up with Renner's Aaron Cross character. But apparently mega-producer Frank Marshall disagrees with that notion, because he just gave an interview with Collider that essentially says it's not going to happen.

Are there still plans for [Bourne and Cross] to eventually meet and have a movie together?
MARSHALL:  We don’t have plans for that.  You never know.  I never say never.  But that’s not the plan.  They’re on separate tracks.

Marshall has been known to keep things extremely close to the vest before, going as far as to straight-up deny the idea of Greengrass and Damon returning even though he knew damn well they were in talks to come back. Is he trying to throw everyone off the trail with this, maybe in the hopes to surprise people with a Renner cameo in Bourne 5 that leads into a new movie? Or is he actually serious? And if it's the latter option...why? Why wouldn't you have plans to cross these two characters over into the same movie? I guess we'll have to wait and see what he has in store for us, but I wouldn't put too much stock in Marshall's claims. I'm guessing we'll see these two on screen together before the decade is over.

Writer/director James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy was on a ton of film critics' Top 10 lists in 2014, but you won't find it on Gunn's own list of his favorite movies of the year. The filmmaker - who is very active on social media - took to his Facebook page to unveil his favorite films of 2014, and though he makes the distinction that "favorite" doesn't necessarily equal "best," it's still a great representation of which movies he found valuable and worth talking about.

Check out his list below, and make sure to sound off in the comments with your favorite movies of last year if you haven't already.

This newest clip from Justice League: Throne of Atlantis does not feature any action, but has some fun character interaction between Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) and The Flash (Christopher Gorham). I really enjoy the DC animated movies and wish they were released more often. With all the live-action DC hero movies coming out, I wonder what effect that might have on the animated ones.

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis comes to Blu-ray January 27th in the United States. You can pre-order it on Amazon for $19.
