Save The Doctor! Help Keep DOCTOR WHO on Netflix!

This binge watching culture that has been created by streaming services is truly a phenomenon. I, myself, have been bitten by the binge bug. I have spent many hours trying to pump through seasons of shows that I want to watch. I live by two rules when it comes to binge watching. First, no show is out of bounds. Good, bad or ugly, if I have nothing on the DVR I am going to find something, and I am going to watch it. Second, if all else fails, I will watch Doctor Who. Unfortunately, my second rule is in jeopardy.

Netflix has released their addition and subtraction list for February, like they do every month. It just so happens that the current Doctor Who, classic Doctor Who and Torchwood are all on the subtraction list. This infuriates me because Netflix is threatening my lively hood. No, I will not die if Doctor Who is pulled, but it might force me to change my streaming provider, and no one wants that.

Apparently, I am not the only one that feels this way. Much like Martha Jones bringing supporters of The Doctor together to save him, we now have an obligation as Whovians to come together, via petition, to save The Doctor. I rarely use my power here at GeekTyrant to change the course of history, but I feel this is a necessary cause. If you have any love for Doctor Who, please log-in to the petition site right here and sign that thing.

Yes, other fantastic shows like Top Gear are also on the chopping block, but they will be back eventually. However, removing Doctor Who should not and will not stand.

There are a number of petitions out there and by all means, if you feel that strongly, sign them all. I am just here to point you in the right direction. THE POWER IS YOURS! Save The Doctor!

Honest Game Trailer for KINGDOM HEARTS

Smosh Games has released an incredibly funny Honest Trailer for the popular Disney video game Kingdom Hearts. I was really into this game when it first came out, but over the years my video game playing time has become limited, so I have to be really picky with the games I choose to play and Kingdom Hearts just didn't make the cut. I know that the game has a pretty big fan base though, and for anyone who has ever played the games in this franchise, you're sure to enjoy this honest trailer.

You asked for it, so we're bringing it to you, Honest style!! While we all sit impatiently and wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 to (never) arrive, we break down all of the zippers, buckles, and character plots of the Kingdom Hearts franchise!

Neil deGrasse Tyson is Getting a Late-Night Show on Nat Geo!

Looks like I'll soon have a new late-night talk show that I'm going to have to watch. Neil deGrasse Tyson, astrophysicist and host of the mind-blowing 2014 TV series Cosmos, is set to headline a late-night series on the National Geographic Channel called Star Talk. I can't help but think that this will be the most fascinating and informative late-night show ever. Tyson said this in a statement:

Cosmos allowed us to share the awesome power of the universe with a global audience in ways that we never thought possible. To be able to continue to spread wonder and excitement through Star Talk, which is a true passion project for me, is beyond exciting. And National Geographic Channel is the perfect home as we continue to explore the universe.”

The series is basically a TV version of Tyson's podcast of the same name, and it will feature a similar format. So we can expect to see him discuss science and pop culture, as well as conduct interviews with various celebrities, comedians, and scientists.

He's still sorting things out, but according to THR, he intends to give Bill Nye a platform for a minute-long rant in each show, which sounds fantastic! The show will be filmed in front of a live studio audience at the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium in New York City, which is where Tyson is based.

National Geographic Channel CEO Courteney Monroe added:

“After the global success of Cosmos as one of the most watched series in our history, we are thrilled to be partnering with Neil again on Star Talk — his wildly popular podcast that transcends science and crosses over into pop culture — once again satisfying the audience’s passion for adventure and exploration. We continue to bolster our programming with series and event specials that are brand definitional, and Star Talk is the perfect opportunity to offer our audience an edgy, late-night alternative with the credibility and authenticity that are the hallmarks of our network.”

The series is set to debut in April, and is slated to air alongside a one-hour special called Hubble’s Cosmic Journey. I have a feeling I'm going to get hooked on this show.

Watch GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director James Gunn Do The Baby Groot Dance

Some of you might know this already, but here's a cool piece of Guardians of the Galaxy trivia: writer/director James Gunn was the motion capture model for the great end sequence of dancing baby Groot. He told Yahoo last year:

“Baby Groot dancing is 100 percent me. I was too embarrassed for anyone to be there, so I made everyone leave the room and I set up a camera and I videotaped myself dancing. Then I sent the video to the animators and had them animate over that. I begged them not to leak the video! Two of my closest friends came to an early screening and said ‘Hey, I recognize those moves! That’s you dancing isn’t it?!’”

James Gunn, his brother Sean Gunn (who provided motion capture work for Rocket Raccoon, as well as playing Yondu's sidekick Kraglin in the film), and Michael Rooker were guests on Doug Benson's Doug Loves Movies podcast earlier this week at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood (listen to the episode here), and Instagram user Nerdstak caught a special moment on video: Gunn (far right) recreating his famous baby Groot dance. It's not long before Rooker and the younger Gunn brother get in on the action, too. Check out the video below:

We Might See The First BATMAN V SUPERMAN Teaser Next Month

Superhero films continue to be big business in Hollywood, but Warner Bros. is hoping to kick-start a whole new series of films with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. Because Marvel has proven to be so successful even when branching out into weirder properties, I think it's pretty obvious that Dawn of Justice has the most riding on it out of any of the upcoming superhero movies. If this experiment fails, a lot of WB's future plans crumble alongside it. But let's be honest: whether the movie is good or not, it's going to make a ton of money because it will be the first time Batman and Superman will share the screen in live action on this kind of scale.

We've known about the film for what seems like forever, but when will we finally get to see a glimpse of actual footage from Zack Snyder's movie? Rumor has it the first teaser trailer is attached to WB's Jupiter Ascending, which is slated to hit theaters in a little less than a month on February 6th, 2015. El Mayimbe at Latino-Review seems to think it's happening, and he's a pretty good source of info when it comes to Batman v Superman:

We're not sure if he has his own sources who are tipping him off with that info, or if he got his lead from a new site called The Projection List, a fantastic new resource for film nerds like us that cleanly lists information about upcoming films ranging from release dates to genre and much more. The site, which just launched yesterday, also has a "trailers" section with projected release dates for upcoming film trailers, and they peg Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the same potential date of February 6th.

It makes sense, especially considering how Warner Bros. unceremoniously bumped the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending onto the 2015 release calendar and how there isn't really a lot of buzz surrounding the film right now. What better way to get people to go see the film than attaching one of the most anticipated trailers of the year to it? We'll see how all of this plays out, but this theory sounds solid to me, so we could be seeing clips of Ben Affleck facing off against Henry Cavill in just under thirty days.

New STAR WARS Toys Coming Out This Year

George Lucas basically made his fortune off Star Wars toys and other merchandise from the franchise he created. I'll admit, I threw a lot of my own money at Lucas for these action figures. When I was a kid I had a whole collection of them, and then as I grew older I started collecting them again. I have several boxes filled with wonderful Star Wars action figures.

For a lot of hardcore fans of Star Wars, the toys are almost as important as the actual movies. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is being released on December 18th, 2015, and a whole line of new action figures is coming with it.

According to a report at Jedi News, there will be a variety of toys being released this year before the movie is released. They will start out with releasing a new set of commemorative figure packs that will pay tribute to the first six films of the franchise. Apparently they'll tie in with the digital releases of the films that are supposed to come later this year. Fans are hoping to see the original cuts of the first trilogy included in that digital release, but there has been no confirmation that will happen. All we can do is keep that hope alive. I've included images above and below as well as some product information on those figures below.

They go on to reveal that the figures for The Force Awakens will hit the streets on September 4th, 2015. I might just have to go out and buy myself a bunch of them.

The text in the first image states 'LEFT SIDE PANELS CREATE A COMPLETE COLLAGE WHEN LINED UP.  WE WILL COMISSION  A NEW ILLUSTRATION THAT FEATURES THE CHARACTERS INCLUDED IN THE ASSORTMENT AND FITS THE SPACE PRECISELY '.  It looks as though all the figures will be from Saga Legends, which feature five points of articulation and have all been released before.  It should be noted that no female figures are represented.
LEGO news is also provided that reveals at least five sets being released in June: -
  • 75091 Classic Flash Speeder £34.99
  • 75092 Naboo Starfighter £54.99
  • 75093 Death Star Final Duel £69.99
  • 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium £79.99
  • 75106 Imperial Assault Carrier £99.99
...and another 13 sets coming later in the year...
  • 75099 Episode VII £19.99
  • 75100 Episode VII £39.99
  • 75101 Episode VII £59.99
  • 75102 Episode VII £69.99
  • 75103 Episode VII £79.99
  • 75104 Episode VII £99.99
  • 75105 Episode VII £129.99
  • 75107 £14.99
  • 75108 £14.99
  • 75109 £19.99
  • 75110 £19.99
  • 75111 £24.99
  • 75112 £29.99
We've been told that the Millennium Falcon and X-Wing are two of the listed Episode VII LEGO sets.

DeviantArt artist Rabittooth created this awesome image of Harrison Ford's three most famous characters hanging out at the same bar. Seems like a pretty awesome place to grab a drink, don't you think? But here's another question for you: if a bar brawl broke out between these three, who'd come out on top? I have a feeling I know who'd shoot first...

New Photos From Marvel's ANT-MAN

new-photos-from-marvels-ant-man

Marvel has released a few cool new photos from Ant-Man. They give us a good look at Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. I really like that image above of Lang standing in a bathroom with his suit. There was a brief clip in the teaser trailer that was released in which Ant-Man shrinks down inside of a shower, so maybe this image is leading up to that scene.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

The Peyton Reed-directed film also stars Corey Stoll, David Dastmalchian, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Wood Harris, John Slattery, and Gregg Turkington.

The movie is set to open in theaters on July 17th, 2015, and I'm really pumped up for it!

We Might See BACK TO THE FUTURE II Nike Mags with Power Laces this Year!

There are a lot of things from Back to the Future II that we won't see in 2015, including flying cars and Jaws 19. Over the years, though, we've seen the development of a hoverboard, which is no where near as radical as what we saw in the movie, but at least people are trying. We've also seen official replicas of the Nike Mag shoe that Marty McFly wears when he visits the future, but those didn't include the power laces. It looks like that all could change: according to new intel, we might actually see Nike Mags with power laces by the end of this year!

Sneaker blog Nice Kicks recently attended a trade show where shoe designer Tinker Hatfield talked about the shoe, saying that their team is working on the power lace aspect of it and they hope to have the show ready this year. He says that they still have “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015,” so hopefully there's a good chance they can get it done before the year is complete.

They are very serious about making this a reality, and even applied for a patent for an “automatic lacing system.” You can see a few images of the patent illustrations below. If this actually becomes a reality, I'm getting myself a pair!

New Trailer and Poster for David Cronenberg's MAP TO THE STARS

$

Say what you will about the films of David Cronenberg, but the man has a unique vision and the talent necessary to translate that vision to the big screen. The man behind The Fly, Videodrome, Eastern Promises, and more has a new film slated for release this year called Maps to the Stars, and it looks like a searing critique of Hollywood. Cronenberg isn't afraid to pull any punches, and it looks like this may be one of his most aggressive, interesting features in years. I'm getting a strong All About Eve vibe from this trailer, and that final scream from Julianne Moore is chilling.

Check out the official synopsis, and then watch the new trailer below.

Meet the Weiss family, who are making their way in Hollywood rife with money, fame, envy, and relentless hauntings. Stafford Weiss (John Cusack) is a famed TV self-help therapist with an A-list celebrity clientele. Meanwhile, Cristina Weiss (Olivia Williams) has her work cut out managing the career of their disaffected child-star son, Benjie (Evan Bird), a fresh graduate of rehab at age 13.
Yet unbeknownst to them, another member of the Weiss family has arrived in town – mysteriously scarred and tormented Agatha (Mia Wasikowska), just released from a psych ward and ready to start again. She soon works her way into a friendship with a limo driver (Robert Pattinson) and becomes personal assistant to unraveling actress Havana Segrand (Julianne Moore), who is beset by the ghost of her legendary mother, Clarice (Sarah Gadon). But Agatha is on a quest for redemption – and even in this realm of the artificial, and the unearthly, she’s determined to find it, no matter what it takes.

New ANT-MAN Story Details, Character Elements, and Concept Art

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a bunch of cool new stuff to share with you regarding Marvel's Ant-Man. Some of the things revealed in the article are what Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) are looking to steal. After all, this project has been described as a heist film. We also learn more about Yellowjacket a.k.a. Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), and there's some concept art featuring the villain as well as a photo of Rudd with director Peyton Reed.

new-ant-man-story-details-character-elements-and-concept-art2

When it comes to Yellowjacket, Stoll tells the magazine that Cross was a child prodigy who was nurtured by Pym. As for what the character's role in the film is, he says:

"He started to become aware of this fabled technology that can shrink people to half an inch. Now he's discovered his own version of that technology-which has a psychotic effect on people if they use it too much."

So what are Pym, Lang, and Van Dyke going to do about it? They're going to steal it! That's right, the heist in the film will be to get a hold of Yellowjacket's suit. EW went to visit the set of the film, and they witnessed a scene being shot of the three main characters in a basement control room as they were coming up with a plan to steal the suit from Cross. They also managed to catch some dialogue, such as, "Cross has the place loaded with transmission blockers!"

It should be really fun to watch this team of people try and pull it off. Scott is bringing along a few friends as well. His allies in the story include Dave (Clifford "T.I." Harris), Luis (Michael Peña), and Kurt (David Dastmalchian). He meets these characters in prison early on in the film. These three characters are not based on characters from the comics, but they all play a major role in story. According to Harris, "We are the team that makes up the Ant-Man crusaders, if you will."

Pym ends up training Lang to take down Cross. Since Pym worked with Cross, I'm sure he has a few good pointers on the type of guy Lang will have to deal with. Apparently their attempt to steal the suit will become a little complicated when Hope come into the picture. Lilly explains:

"She’s not been in her father’s life for a long time. So her arc in the movie—as Scott’s is with his daughter—is trying to find a relationship."

Many of us know mending relationships with family can be hard and dramatic at times. When talking about the title hero of the film, director Peyton Reed says:

"He’s not used to being a hero. He’s more like George Clooney in Ocean’s Eleven. He’s a guy trying to create a new life for himself and find redemption."

I'm sure the new life he starts for himself isn't what he was expecting. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige goes on to talk about why they chose Rudd for the role. I know he wasn't the obvious choice, but I'm glad they chose him, because it looks like he's going to be great in the movie.

"We wanted Scott Lang to have made mistakes that cost him dearly. But we wanted the audience to be rooting for him despite that. Paul Rudd can do almost anything and you’re still charmed by him."

Ya can't argue with that logic. I've always been a fan of Rudd's work, and it's cool to see him take on such a radical shrinking role. It was cool to get a glimpse at the visual effects in the recently-released teaser trailer, and when talking about the effects, Reed says:

"What we’re doing is very different from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. It’s going to be much more experiential."

Co-producer Brad Winderbaum explains that they will be using macro photography and motion-capture technology to make these effects pop:

"There are cameras and lenses that make small areas look like the most epic landscapes. Then we’re shooting motion capture with Paul to insert Ant-Man into those environments."

So of course Rudd and Stoll wore motion capture suits, and Stoll explains what all goes down when they're working in the suits on set:

"The director shouts out, ‘And now you’re gonna get punched on the left side of your face!’ ‘And now there’s a swarm of ants!’ It was a lot of fun."

There's no doubt that it will be fun to watch as well. The movie is set to be released on July 17th!

13 Fun Facts About BEETLEJUICE

$

13-fun-facts-about-beetlejuice

With a Beetlejuice sequel getting closer and closer to actually becoming a reality, I've been inspired to put together a list of fun facts you might not know about the original 1988 Tim Burton film. Burton and Michael Keaton seemed to have a great professional relationship back in the day, and I would love to see them work together again on some kind of film project in the future. Beetlejuice was such an amazingly great movie, filled with all kinds of crazed amusement. It’s easily one of my favorite movies to come out of the 80s, and Keaton has stated that it’s his favorite movie of the all the ones he’s made.

  • Keaton only spent two weeks shooting his part in the film. Out of the 92-minute feature he only has 17.5 minutes of screen time.
  • The original script was more of horror film, and Beetlejuice was a winged, reptilian demon who transformed into a small Middle Eastern man to interact with the Maitlands and the Deetzes. Lydia was a minor character, who had a six-year-old sister named Cathy. Cathy was the kid who was able to see the Maitlands, not Lydia. The goal of Beetlejuice was initially to kill the Deetzes instead of scare them away. It included scenes where he mauled Cathy in the form of a rabid squirrel and tried to rape Lydia. Damn! That would have been interesting.
  • Keaton said that his character was described to him by Burton as "having lived in every time period but no time period." Keaton used this info to create the character that features a crazy hairdo, mold makeup, and large teeth. He said that when he first showed up to the set as Betelgeuse the crew was chanting, "Juice, Juice, Juice." This inspired Keaton to do a lot of improvisation during filming.
  • The studio didn't like the title of Beetlejuice, and they wanted to call the film "House Ghosts." Burton suggested the name "Scared Sheetless" as a joke, and was shocked when the studio actually considered using it.
  • In the wedding scene, Lydia's dress is bright red. According to the old rhyme about wedding dress colors, it's "Married in red, better off dead."
  • When Adam and Barbara are in the after-world office, there’s a voice on the PA system that announces the arrival of Flight 409: ”Flight 409 is arriving at Gate 3." That’s based on a true event that took place on October 6th, 1955. United Airlines Flight 409 crashed into a mountain over Wyoming, killing everyone on board. It was the worst crash in history to that point. No one knows why it crashed. Kind of morbid, now that I think about it.
  • The snake scene in the movie was filmed before Keaton was cast, and the animatronic snake that was used had no kind of resemblance to the actor. After Keaton joined the movie, they reshot the scene with a stop-motion snake that looked more like Betelgeuse.
  • During the sequence in which Adam and Barbara enter Juno's office, where she is talking to the dead football team, there’s a movie theater full of ghosts that can be seen through Juno's office window. The scene was suppose to create the illusion that the audience members who were watching the movie in theaters were being watched by the ghosts. Among the ghosts in the audience are a red skeleton and a green skeleton, a woman with red hair, and two men in suits and Ray-Ban style sunglasses.
  • After the success of the movie, the studio planned a sequel called Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. A script was commissioned and Keaton and Winona Ryder both signed on to reprise their roles. Burton ended up losing interest in the project, and went on to direct Batman in 1989. In the proposed sequel, the “Deetz family moves to Hawaii to develop a resort. Construction begins, and it’s quickly discovered that the hotel will be sitting on top of an ancient burial ground. Beetlejuice comes in to save the day.” Hopefully the upcoming sequel is not Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.
  • Even though the film was rated PG in a PG-13 era, it contained the F-word once. Other PG films that include the F-word are 1987's Spaceballs, 1988's Big, and 1988's Caddyshack II.
  • Burton originally wanted Sammy Davis Jr. to take on the role of Betelgeuse, but studio executives didn't like that idea. Davis Jr. had been a favorite star of the director's since childhood.
  • Juliette Lewis, Lori Loughlin, Diane Lane, Sarah Jessica Parker, Brooke Shields, Justine Bateman, Molly Ringwald, and Jennifer Connelly all turned down the role of Lydia.
  • At the dinner party, Otho says that people who commit suicide end up as "civil servants" in the afterlife. The character Miss Argentina, who was played by Patrice Martinez, apparently slit her wrists, which confirms Otho's statement - she's spending her death as the receptionist. Also in the back room as the Maitlands are being led to their door, there is another man hanging from his noose, and the man aiding them obviously stepped in front of a bus.

Below you'll find an original trailer for the film, along with a behind the scenes video that shows off a lot of the production art work. There's no sound to it, but it's still cool to watch.

Thanks to IMDb for the intel.

Edward James Olmos Joins Marvel's AGENTS OF SHIELD

I tuned out of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD (I refuse to type those individual periods after each letter) after the pilot, but I've heard that the show greatly improved in its second season. Is that enough to get me to watch it? Nope - I still have to catch up on Orange is the New Black, Deadwood, and about a million other shows - but those of you who ARE watching Marvel's flagship TV series might be interested to know that they've just added a heavy hitter to the cast.

Marvel.com has revealed that Battlestar Galactica star Edward James Olmos has joined the show in "a major recurring role." Who is he playing, you ask? Someone named Robert Gonzales, a character who, as far as we can tell, didn't previously exist anywhere in the Marvel universe. Is this some sort of sneaky trick indicating that Olmos is actually playing someone that everyone knows and recognizes, ala Benedict Cumberbatch's John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness? Time will tell, but regardless of Olmos' character's name, he's set to "have massive repercussions for Director Coulson and his team." Sounds ominous.

“Edward James Olmos brings an amazing gravitas to any role he inhabits, something we knew we needed for Robert Gonzales,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “When Olmos first appears on our series, everyone will have to take notice--including our favorite Agents.”

Agents of SHIELD returns on Tuesday, March 3rd at 9pm, taking back its time slot after the first season of Marvel's Agent Carter comes to an end.

You Can Own The Actual Character Models Used in CORALINE, THE BOXTROLLS, and More

If you're a fan of Laika Studios and their stop-motion animated films, and you have some money to burn, this post is for you. Actual character models used in the Laika movies Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls are going to be auctioned off early next month, and you could be the one to take them home. The auction is set to take place on February 12th in Beverly Hills, California, but the props and models - over 250 of which will be auctioned off - will actually go on a three city tour before that, hitting Dallas from January 27th-29th, New York City from February 3rd-5th, and Beverly Hills from February 9th-12th.

Heritage Auctions will be presenting the props in each of those cities and hosting the auction, which will be giving the proceeds to a nonprofit arts group called The Art of Elysium that helps disabled children. On Heritage's website, they have a handful of super-detailed images for just a few of the puppets and props that will be available to bid on, and having time to really dive into each of the design decisions just makes me appreciate all the work that goes into making these films even more. Check out some of the images below, and make sure to check the full site for more.

Patrick Wilson Will Play Young Lou Solverson in FARGO Season 2

$

I've written before about my love for the FX original series Fargo, and just a couple of days ago I wrote about how showrunner Noah Hawley mentioned that season two would be "a lot bigger" than the first season. Part of the growth of the show includes an expanded cast, and ever since it was announced that the second season would revolve around a young Lou Solverson (played wonderfully by Keith Carradine), I wondered who Hawley would cast to step into that character's shoes. ComingSoon reports that The Conjuring star Patrick Wilson will play a young Solverson, which is a fantastic choice. Wilson has been doing consistently great work for the past few years, and I'm really looking forward to seeing him take the lead on one of the most cinematic and well-written shows on TV.

Ted Danson and Jean Smart are also joining the cast, which already consisted of Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons as one set of main characters, along with Jeffrey Donovan and Nick Offerman. Here's some information from the press release from FX, which includes a few more cast additions and details about which characters these actors will play and some hints at the story that will play out over the course of the second season:

Patrick Wilson will star as Lou Solverson, a clean cut Minnesota State Patrolman, four years back from Vietnam, where he served in the Navy. A humble and competent man, Lou is a devoted husband to his wife Betsy (yet to be cast), and father to four-year-old Molly (yet to be cast).
Ted Danson will play Hank Larsson, the Sheriff of Rock County, Minnesota. An unflappable WWII vet who embodies a certain cowboy poetry, Hank is Lou’s father-in-law.
Jean Smart will play Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family. She’s stood by her husband’s side for 40 years, but now that he’s out of the picture she thinks it’s her turn to run things.
The all new “true crime” case of “Fargo’s” new chapter travels back to 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota, where a young State Police Officer Lou Solverson (Wilson), recently back from Vietnam, investigates a case involving a local crime gang and a major Mob syndicate. Helping him piece things together is his father-in-law, Sheriff Hank Larsson (Danson). The investigation will lead them to a colorful cast of characters that includes Karl Weathers (Nick Offerman), the town lawyer of Luverne, Minnesota. A Korean War vet, Karl is a flowery drunk blessed with the gift of gab and the eloquence of a true con artist.
Brad Garrett will play Joe Bulo, the front man for the northern expansion of a Kansas City crime syndicate. The new face of corporate crime, Joe’s bringing a Walmart mentality to small town America. His number two is Mike Milligan (Bokeem Woodbine). Part enforcer, part detective, Mike is always smiling – but the joke is usually on you. Bulo and his crew have their sights set on the Gerhardt crime family in Fargo, currently led by matriarch Floyd Gerhardt (Smart). With her husband at death’s door, Floyd takes over the family business, frustrating her eldest son, Dodd Gerhardt (Jeffrey Donovan). An impatient hothead with a cruel streak to match his ambitions, Dodd can’t wait for both his parents to die so he can take over and expand their business from kingdom to empire. Bear Gerhardt (Angus Sampson) is the middle son, an intimidatingly large man who, although inarticulate, is the most decent of his clan. Rye Gerhardt (Kieran Culkin), the youngest of the Gerhardt clan, views himself as a big shot, but in reality he’s just a small dog who barks big.

Looking forward to the new season of Fargo? Production starts on January 19th, and the show is scheduled to return to TV sometime this fall.

Michael Keaton and Edward Norton Talk About Acting, BIRDMAN, and More in 20 Minute Video

One of the events that I was really sad to miss at last year's AFI Fest was a discussion between Birdman stars Michael Keaton and Edward Norton. Both of them are outstanding in the movie, and I've been a fan of both of these guys for about twenty years, so I was super bummed that I wasn't able to attend this discussion in person. Luckily, The Playlist just pointed out that the conversation was recorded, and it's finally made its way online for all of us to watch.

The guys talk about the craft of acting, the worst thing directors can do on a set, the making of Birdman, and much, much more. If you enjoyed the film, or if you're a big fan of both (or either) of these guys, this is definitely worth watching.

We all know that winter is coming, but when will the premiere of the fifth season of HBO's smash hit series Game of Thrones arrive? Today, we find out. Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, and Veep will premiere back-to-back-to-back on Sunday, April 12th, 2015 beginning at 9:00pm. Set your DVRs now - or if you can't, make sure to set an alarm to remind yourself to set your DVR when that date gets closer, because you definitely don't want to miss this night of television.

I haven't seen any of Veep (I know, I know - I've heard it's great, but I just haven't had time), but Silicon Valley was a pleasant surprise last season. The hilarious comedy about a start-up tech company skewers practically everything about the industry right now, and creator Mike Judge's comedic chops are just as strong as ever. Game of Thrones, of course, delivered another stellar season last year, and for those of you looking to see Westeros in the largest manner possible, make sure to check out the last two episodes of season four and an exclusive season five trailer playing only in IMAX theaters. For everyone else, the series will be airing a special episode one month today - click here for more information on that. Valar morghulis...

GHOSTBUSTERS Reimagined as a 1980s Anime

Here’s a hilariously-made animated video that reimagines the Ghostbusters as a Japanese anime series called "Tokyo Ghostbusters." The video was created by Nacho Punch who previously brought us Harry Potter Akira and anime Star Wars. I like how Egon’s eyes are always tripping out and it was really funny to see who Ray chose as the destructor at the end. I hope you enjoy the lunacy of it all!
