SCRUBS Actor Donald Faison Thinks STAR TREK Is Lame

0
0

The age-old clash between Star Wars and Star Trek chalks up yet another battle thanks to a conversation between Conan O'Brien and Scrubs star Donald Faison. This is nothing new to those of you who have heard this argument before, but Faison went on the show and talked about how Star Wars is full of excitement, explosions, and lightsabers, while Star Trek is slow, boring, and filled with science. When facing off about Wars vs. Trek, true fans can come up with multiple reasons why their preferred franchise is the best, but it often comes down to this simplified breakdown of action vs. science. As a fan of both franchises, it can get annoying and repetitive listening to this same debate over and over again - especially when somebody busts out the clip of Kirk vs. Gorn that we've all seen a million times. Take a look at the clip, and let us know which franchise you prefer in the comments below.

Elle Fanning In Talks to Lead Nicolas Winding Refn's Horror Film THE NEON DEMON

Though Elle Fanning had roles in movies like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Somewhere in the late 2000s, she didn't deliver her first breakout performance until she appeared in J.J. Abrams' 2011 movie Super 8. Since then she's balanced huge movies (last year's Maleficent being the biggest yet) with a nice selection of smaller films, and now she has a chance to meet in the middle for a really interesting project with one of the industry's most fascinating directors.

The Wrap reports that Fanning is in negotiations to lead Nicolas Winding Refn's female-driven horror film The Neon Demon. She'd play "an aspiring model caught in a world of beauty and demise," which sounds very much like the kind of ethereal, moody plot we've come to expect from Refn these days. The director of Drive spoke about the genesis of this project a few months ago:

“One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.”

This has the potential to be a lot more accessible than Refn's last film, the impenetrable Only God Forgives. Here's hoping this pairing results in an awesome L.A.-based horror film that will be remembered for many years to come. Refn seems to be pumped to work with the young actress, saying:

“Elle Fanning is a super cool wonder woman and I look forward to going on a terrifying trip with her into ‘The Neon Demon.’”

Exquisite Fantasy Art by Mélanie Delon

Sometimes I come across a single piece of art from an artist that makes me want to check out their full portfolio. The Snow White piece by French artist Mélanie Delon lead me down the rabbit hole of discovery. This collection is my favorite selection of her work from her website, Deviant Art gallery, Facebook Page, and CG Society gallery. Delon's work is mostly fantasy and usually features a single female subject. The color tone and feeling of light is why I'm so drawn to her work.

Marvel Unleashes Full Teaser Trailer for ANT-MAN

Ant-Man 1.jpg

If you're reading this site, there's a good chance you're already very familiar with the history of Marvel Studios' Ant-Man movie: Edgar Wright spent years developing the screenplay with an eye to direct, but ended up walking away from the film because he ultimately didn't see eye to eye with the studio. Bring It On director Peyton Reed came in as a replacement, and Kevin Feige and the people at Marvel have gone out of their way to convince fans that Reed is the right guy for the job.

During tonight's series premiere of Agent Carter, Marvel released the first official teaser for Ant-Man, so fans can now decide for themselves. What do you think? Does it look good, or could this be one of the studio's rare missteps?

New Ghostly Photo from INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3

James Wan may have stepped away as the director of the Insidious horror franchise for Insidious: Chapter 3, but that doesn’t mean his influence won’t be felt as he has stayed on on a producer. The third movie is being directed by co-writer Leigh Whannell, who worked on the first two films with Wan as well. He has a solid understanding of the story and where it’s going, so I’m pumped to see where he takes this next chapter.

Here's from the film that features Elise as she is about to come face to face with one of the demonic ghosts from The Further.

This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.“

The movie is set to be released on June 5th. To watch the trailer again, click here.

Duncan Jones Discuses Focus of His WARCRAFT Film

Just yesterday we showed you some awesome fan art that that gave us a look at what the unreleased trailer for Warcraft that was shown at BlizzCon 2014 looked like. In case you missed that, you should click here to check it out. The film is currently going through the post-production process, and there are a ton of visual effects that need to be completed before the movie is released in 2016.

The director of the film, Duncan Jones, recently talked about the highly anticipated movie, and reveals that the focus of the movie will be on orcs and humans meeting for the first time.

This is what he had to say in an interview the Chinese movie news site Mtime (via: frakingfilms):

“From the moment I first talked to Blizzard, the plan was to start our film with the first time Orcs met Humans.  First contact! I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about Warcraft… it was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes.”

The director went on to explain that both the humans and orcs will play an equally important part in the story he is telling.

“A Warcraft film should not be about a good race of humans battling an evil race of orcs!  Warcraft should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice.”

I really like that. It's kind of the same thing that happened between humans and apes in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. They also tried to avoid conflict and war, but there were villains on each side that made it impossible. Jones then goes on to say that he hopes his movie will kick off a successful franchise that people will want to see more of.

Peter Jackson did a magnificent job of ‘setting the table’ for Tolkien’s universe with his first Lord of the Rings film. I know that my job in this first film is to establish certain characters, places and culture while telling a story that a broad audience can be excited by! Hopefully, if I have done my job right, people will want to know and see more! There is certainly plenty more to tell! … I would love to be part of that process of expanding on the lore that makes up Warcraft, but it will all depend on what you, the audience, think of our first film!”

I think the movie definitely has the potential to be a successful franchise. It could be just as big or bigger than The Lord of the Rings. It will be interesting to see how audiences react to this epic new fantasy world, especially those who don't really know much about the game that the film is based on.

Warcraft is set to be released in theaters on March 11th, 2016.

Funny "Jurassic Parks and Recreation" Parody Trailer

Thanks Mom Productions has created an amusing parody trailer that mashes together Jurassic World with Parks and Recreation. It's called "Jurassic Parks and Recreation," and it shows us what it would be like if Chris Pratt's lovable goofball character, Andy Dwyer, had to face off with the dinosaurs of Jurassic World. Pratt himself approved of the mashup, tweeting the following comment:

"Ok. This is just a awesome!! Haha!"

It really is, so enjoy!

42 ANT-MAN Screenshots, Plus Kevin Feige says it's "Surprisingly Emotional"

Yesterday Marvel released a teaser trailer for Ant-Man, and for a teaser, I really liked what I saw. There was some awesome stuff, and I love the look of Paul Rudd's Ant-Man hero. There seem to be a lot of mixed reactions from fans, but for the most part it seems like people are excited for the movie. I know I am! It's not going to be as epic as Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, but it's still going to deliver some incredibly fun and quality entertainment. It looks like there's going to be a good mix of action, humor, and drama.

In an interview with USA Today Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talk about Hank Pym passing the torch to Scott Lang, and says it's "one of the most surprisingly emotional" Marvel movies so far. He also teases Hank Pym's many adventures.

"Hank Pym invented the Ant-Man technology, went on many adventures and is now much older and trying to recruit a new person. It's the first film we've made in which the story is about a torch being passed, essentially."

Now check out all of the screenshots below featuring some key moments in the trailer with Scott Lang, Hank Pym, Hope Van Dyne, and more. The movie is set to be released on July 17th, 2015.

Everything Wrong with GHOST RIDER

everything-wrong-with-ghost-rider

There is a lot wrong with the feature film adaptation of Ghost Rider! I have yet to meet a person who actually liked that movie. Everything about it, including Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage, was completely awful. We all know it’s bad, we all know what the issues of the film are, now watch Cinema Sins tear it apart like a rabid dog.

Well, if you could take back watching a movie, this video might not exist. Safe to say we here at CS headquarters did NOT enjoy this film, and found a great number of sins. Feel our pain by watching them.

I still hope that one day we actually get a good film adaptation of this badass comic book character. He deserves it.

Jeremy Renner Reprises Hawkeye Role in Mystery Project

Yesterday Jeremy Renner took to his WhoSay page to post the above image of Hawkeye with a caption saying, "Tues morn. I find myself in costume again. I just can't tell you why. And it still fits!"

We know that Avengers: Age of Ultron would go through some reshoots, but there is some speculation that in this instance it could be for an appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The series' Clark Gregg recently teased the possibility that Hawkeye would appear in the series in a piece of art that he posted on Facebook

There's always the chance that Renner could be working on another Marvel project other than Age of Ultron, and it would be pretty rad if he popped up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Renner previously discussed a possible role in Captain America: Civil War, but that hasn't started shooting yet. He also talked about a Hawkeye solo film, but who knows if that will ever happen.

Of course, there's always the chance he could pop up as a cameo in any of the Marvel projects in development from Ant-Man to one of the upcoming Netflix series. That seems unlikely, but I'm throwing it out there. In my opinion, he's either suiting up for more Age of Ultron shoots or for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. What do you think?

Dynamic TRANSFORMERS Fan Art by Keron Grant

When it comes to the Transformers franchise, we aren't ever going to see anything like the original 1980s animated series again. The recent animated series reimaginings we’ve seen have been fun, and the Michael Bay movies have been…well, you know. But nothing in these mediums have been able to really capture that awesome nostalgic spirit of the original Transformers. Luckily, we have artists like Keron Grant who know what the fans want to see. Here’s a badass series of character pieces that the artist created which captures the true greatness of the Transformers, and what we love about them.

More TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Concept Art for Krang, Rocksteady, and Bebop

0
0

About two months ago we posted unused concept art from the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action movie. Shortly after sharing those, Paramount Pictures requested that they be removed from our site. Today, we have more unused concept art by artist Jerad S. Marantz which not only include a different take on Krang, Rocksteady, and Bebop, but also the Ninja Turtles themselves. I actually like the final movie designs of the turtles over this concept art, because they just look tougher. I also like the previously posted and pulled designs for Krang, Rocksteady, and Bebop, because they look like updated versions of the animated cartoon character designs.

I've yet to watch the Michael Bay-produced film, but I feel like I need to. I'm setting the bar ultra low, so maybe it will surprise me.

Trailer for Olivia Wilde's Supernatural Film THE LAZARUS EFFECT

The first trailer has been released for a supernatural thriller called The Lazarus Effect. The film has a solid cast that includes Olivia WildeMark Duplass, Donald Glover, and Evan Peters. The story centers around a group of medical students who discover a way to bring the dead back to life with a serum called lazarus. Of course, bad, deadly things are bound to happen when you decide to bring people back from the dead - they never come back the same. In this case, the character Wilde plays is brought back from the dead after an accident, and then she goes on a killing spree. The movie has the same kind of vibe as the 1990 film Flatliners, only Flatliners still looks like a better film.

The Lazarus Effect is set to be released on February 27th, and I'll watch it because I enjoy watching movies like this.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS — New Fan-Made Posters

So far Disney•Lucasfilm only have officially released a teaser trailer and a few photos from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. What's missing is a poster, which has lead many fans to create their own. We've posted a couple (here and here), and today we have two more. One of the pieces is from Love-Carmichael that shows off some "most impressive" Photoshop skills (above), and the other is from illustrator Ross Burt.

Liam Neeson Protects Joel Kinnaman in First Images For RUN ALL NIGHT

0
0

Liam Neeson will use his particular set of skills one last time in Taken 3 when that film hits theaters this week, but USA Today already has images from his next movie, Run All Night. The project will reunite Neeson with his Unknown and Non-Stop director Jaume Collet-Serra, and features Neeson as - you guessed it - another badass with a gun. Here's the full plot description:

Brooklyn mobster and prolific hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson), once known as The Gravedigger, has seen better days.  Longtime best friend of mob boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris), Jimmy, now 55, is haunted by the sins of his past—as well as a dogged police detective (Vincent D’Onofrio) who’s been one step behind Jimmy for 30 years.  Lately, it seems Jimmy’s only solace can be found at the bottom of a whiskey glass.

But when Jimmy’s estranged son, Mike (Joel Kinnaman), becomes a target, Jimmy must make a choice between the crime family he chose and the real family he abandoned long ago.  With Mike on the run, Jimmy’s only penance for his past mistakes may be to keep his son from the same fate Jimmy is certain he’ll face himself…at the wrong end of a gun.  Now, with nowhere safe to turn, Jimmy just has one night to figure out exactly where his loyalties lie and to see if he can finally make things right.

Sounds like a pretty standard Neeson action movie, but this one takes place over only one night and includes that family element that just might be enough to shake things up and give this project a bit of an identity separate from the actor's past few films. I'd really like to see him branch out more (his work in The LEGO Movie was great), but I suppose he's carved out a solid little niche for himself and he's milking it as much as he can. Tough to blame him for capitalizing on a late-career popularity boost, but I still wish he'd move on to other kinds of roles.

Run All Night arrives in theaters on April 17th, and the first trailer should hit the web this week.

NASA's Awesome Travel Posters For Real Exoplanets

0
0

Back in 2009, NASA launched a telescope called Kepler into space in the hopes of discovering planets that share similar qualities with Earth. Now JPL - NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory - has created some very cool fake travel posters for some of the real exoplanets that Kepler has found. We've featured some awesome fake travel posters on the site before (look here, here, and here for just a few examples), but I don't think we've ever featured any for real planets that could potentially be inhabited by the human race one day. Pretty rad, huh?

Twice as big in volume as the Earth, HD 40307g straddles the line between 'Super-Earth' and 'mini-Neptune' and scientists aren't sure if it has a rocky surface or one that's buried beneath thick layers of gas and ice. One thing is certain though: at eight times the Earth's mass, its gravitational pull is much, much stronger.
Like Luke Skywalker's planet 'Tatooine' in Star Wars, Kepler-16b orbits a pair of stars. Depicted here as a terrestrial planet, Kepler-16b might also be a gas giant like Saturn.
Kepler-186f is the first Earth-size planet discovered in the potentially 'habitable zone' around another star, where liquid water could exist on the planet's surface. Its star is much cooler and redder than our Sun. If plant life does exist on a planet like Kepler-186f, its photosynthesis could have been influenced by the star's red-wavelength photons, making for a color palette that's very different than the greens on Earth. This discovery was made by Kepler, NASA's planet hunting telescope.

Marvel's DAREDEVIL Has a Promo Teaser, Poster, and Premiere Date

marvels-daredevil-has-a-promo-spot-poster-and-premiere-date

Marvel has released a short promo teaser for their upcoming Daredevil series as well as a poster and photo. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on April 4th, 2015, so mark your calendars! All 13 one-hour episodes will be released that day, and it's going to be great day of binge-watching! Stay tuned between now and the day it's released because I'm sure the studio will be promoting it heavily in the upcoming weeks.

Marvel’s Daredevil follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

The series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, with Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. I'm excited to see how this show turns out. Expect to see some footage in the near future.

Six Things You May Have Missed in the ANT-MAN Teaser

I don't know how many times you've watched the teaser trailer for Ant-Man. But if you haven't broken it down frame-by-frame yet, or analyzed the hell out of it, Mr Sunday Movies is here to do it for you. He's released a video that points out six things you may have missed in the trailer. There is a bunch of information that he brings up that I didn't think about while watching the teaser, so I found the video to be very informative. Check it out!
