Cosplay Boom has released a nice cosplay profile video that focuses on the cosplayers inspired by the awesomeness of Middle Earth. It not only features some cool cosplay, but it also has interviews with the people behind the costumes. It pretty interesting listening to these people talk about themselves and why they do what they do.

Kat Dennings stars in a solid looking movie called To Write Love On Her Arms, and we have the first trailer for it for you to watch. The film is based on the true story of a young woman who battled addiction and depression and went on to start a charity that the movie is named after. The idea behind it is to help people in non-traditional ways, which is through music festivals and social networking. Denning’s plays a young woman who escapes her world of addiction through music. As you’ll see in the trailer, the film is a blend of realism and fantasy, and it looks like it makes for an interesting film.

Based on the true story that started a global movement, To Write Love on Her Arms presents a vision of hope, healing and redemption. Emmy® Award winner Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls) stars as Renee, a Florida girl who struggles with addiction and abuse. In a creative blend of artistic fantasy and music conflicted with hard reality, Renee discovers the value of genuine friendships and embarks on a daunting yet courageous journey towards recovery. The film also stars Chad Michael Murray, Rupert Friend, and Corbin Bleu.

The movie is set to be released in March of 2015.

Here’s a very cool stylized piece of Mega Man fan art created by artist Artem Solop. I really like the wild and meticulous style of it. I like all of the little details that the artist threw into it. The illustration turned out to have a pretty badass look. To see some previously released Mega Man fan work, click here, here, and here

Inspiring LITTLE BOY Trailer Brings a Lot of Faith

inspiring-little-boy-trailer-has-a-lot-of-faith

For those of you looking for a little inspiration to brighten your life, here’s a trailer for a film called Little Boy, and it centers around faith. The film tells the inspirational story of a 7-year old boy who is “willing to do whatever it takes to end World War II so he can bring his father home. The story reveals the indescribable love a father has for his little boy and the love a son has for his father.”

The movie is obviously geared toward more of a Christian audience, but it looks better than most of those kinds of films that have been released. It also has a decent cast that includes Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson, Michael Rapaport, and Kevin James. The little boy in the film, who has faith that can move mountains, is played by Jakob Salvati

It looks like a decent family film. My little girls watched the trailer and it sparked their attention enough that they really want to see it.

Open Road Films will release the film on February 27th, 2015.

Everything Wrong with Darren Aronofsky’s NOAH

I think that I enjoyed Darren Aronofsky’s Noah more than most people. The film wasn’t without its problems though, and a lot of people enjoyed tearing it apart. For those of you who didn't like the movie, I'm sure this new "Everything Wrong" video from Cinema Sins will bring a little enjoyment to your day. I have to say that they do make some valid points in this episode.

Noah strayed a lot from its Biblical source material, but it strayed even further from logic and common sense. Come, sit aboard the ark a while with us and learn of the sins of Noah.

You can watch them dig up 131 sins from the movie below.

Furiously Cool Sci-Fi Concept Art by Hyunwook Chun

The energy portrayed in this concept illustration if freakin’ intense. The original sci-fi piece was created by Hyunwook Chun, and it’s called “A Deadend.” The design work portrayed here is simply stunning, I especially love the look of the ship and how it seems to furiously move in a still image like this. It makes it very easy to visualize how this scene would play out in a film or video game.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Script Completed by Jeff Wadlow

Back in April of last year it was reported that Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow would be writing a script for the new Masters of the Universe film set up at Columbia Pictures. That script has been completed, and Senior Vice President of Production at the studio, Devon Franklin, posted a copy of the script’s title page on Twitter, which you can see below.

The project has gone through several writers over the years. Before Wadlow came on board, G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu was attached to the project. Luckily for us, he’s not going to be around to ruin it. The film doesn’t have a director currently attached to it, but Wadlow is in contention with I Origins director Mike Cahill, who would be a very interesting choice. That guy seems to have a talent for filmmaking.

Wallow is also set to write the script for Fox’s X-Force movie, and that might prevent him from directing Masters of the Universe, so there’s a chance Cahill could get the gig, which I would be completely on board with!

I’m a huge fan of He-Man and The Masters of the Universe, and I would love to see an epic, live-action, feature film adaptation. With the right team of talent, this could be an insanely kick-ass film. If the script that Wadlow wrote is good, I hope the studio finally moves forward with it.

JAWS Inspired Baby Bed Eats Babies

We’re gonna need bigger crib.

For any parents out there who are twisted enough to envision your newborn baby being eaten by a shark or want give your kid a phobia of sharks for the rest of their life, this is the perfect bed set up! It’s a Jaws-themed baby bed, and the kid in the picture seems like he’s absolutely terrified. I guess it's the perfect baby bed for any kid out there named Quint.

Aaron Paul Responds to Han Solo Movie Rumors

A rumor recently spread across the Internet that Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul is up for a role in the Han Solo Star Wars spin-off film being developed at Lucasfilm. Now there was no word on who he would be playing, but he doesn’t seem to fit the Han Solo mold, so I imagine it would be another character, if the rumor is even true.

The actor responded to the rumors in a Tweet that said:

Even if the rumor was true, the actor isn’t going to come out and say so. As we’ve seen in the past, actors usually deny rumors over and over again until it becomes true or fades into obscurity. We won’t really know the truth behind this for a while.

Paul recently took part in in a live-reading of The Empire Strikes Back for Jason Reitman. I imagine that’s what sparked the rumor in the first place. I think it’d be great to see the actor in the Star Wars universe, just maybe not as Solo.

Slapstick Grim Reaper Short - DJI. DEATH FAILS

I’ve got a fun, high-energy animated comedy short for you to check out today called "Dji. Death Fails," and it comes from the studio Simpals. It has a slapstick comedy vibe and centers around how even the grim reaper can have a bad day on the job. Death thinks he has an easy job ahead of him when a driver careens off the road, but things don’t pan out the way he hopes.

Here’s a synopsis that came along with the short:

“Dji is an unusual death. The Dark Knight has appeared in a different form. No, he is not white and fluffy. Dji is just terribly unlucky. All he has to do is to take the soul of a dying man. But the screenwriters prepared some obstacles for Dji. Will he manage to overcome them? You'll see.”

Enjoy the film!

Judd Apatow’s Episode of THE SIMPSONS Has a Premiere Date

Way back in 1990 when director Judd Apatow was 22 years old, he wrote a script for an episode of The Simpsons. Two years ago it was announced that the script would be produced, and now thanks to THR we’ve learned that the episode is set to air on FOX on January 11th, 2015!

The episode is called “Bart’s New Friend,” and it centers on Homer, who is hypnotized into thinking that he’s 10 years old again and winds up being best friends with Bart.

In an interview with TV Guide Apatow, who has made films such as Knocked Up, Funny People, and This is 40, said:

"It's a pretty rough script — when I reread it, I wasn't exactly glowing with pride — but Al and the staff did their Simpsons magic on it.”

He went on to say that seeing the cast bring his story to life at the table read was one of the greatest days of his life. I think it’s so cool that the episode he wrote over two decades ago has actually been made, and we’ll get to see soon. Hopefully it’s good!

Watch Eddie Redmayne Explain His Terrible Audition for THE HOBBIT

Eddie Redmayne is a fantastic actor, and he'll probably end up being nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. It doesn't seem like the actor was ever cut out to play Bilbo Baggins, though. He was recently a guest on The Graham Norton Show on BBC America, and there he talked about his awful audition for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. He really wanted to make an impression, but in the end he didn't get a callback because of how over-the-top he took it. Anna Kendrick was also a guest on the show, and she said this of his embarrassing experience:

"You always hear the stories of the actor being brave, and really doing something kind of mad to get a part, and you're like, 'I'm going to do that!'"

It's pretty funny listening to Redmayne tell his story, and what he ended up doing was quite ridiculous.  Watch him tell how it all went down in the video below.

Another Enjoyable Trailer for THE PEANUTS MOVIE

We have another fun trailer for The Peanuts Movie for you to watch featuring Woodstock working on Snoopy's dog house, and Snoopy taking it for a spin. I've loved everything that I've seen from this movie so far, and the style perfectly represents everything that we know an love about these characters. It has a slightly updated vibe with the animation style, but the spirit of Peanuts is 100% present.

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved Peanuts gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace – embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest.

The lovable Peanuts gang was created Charles M. Schulz, and they are being brought to life on the big screen for the first time by Blue Sky Studios, the studio behind the Ice Age films. The movie will hit theaters on November 6th, 2015, and I can't wait! Enjoy the latest trailer!

Here is a radical action-packed LEGO fan-made trailer for Batman Vs. Superman that comes from YouTube user BrickFlix. The video was inspired by Zack Snyder’s upcoming film Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it is pretty damn entertaining. It even has a surprising conclusion that I thought was really funny. I think a lot of you will get a kick out of this, so enjoy!

Benedict Cumberbatch Opens Up about DOCTOR STRANGE

I couldn't be more excited about Benedict Cumberbatch playing Stephen Strange in director Scott Derrickson's upcoming Marvel film, Doctor Strange. I've been waiting for this movie for a very, very long time, and it's finally going to happen! During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cumberbatch opens up about playing the Sorcerer Supreme, and when he was asked if taking on this role was a risk, he said,

“I don’t think it’s a risk because of Marvel. Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It’s very different, it’s an Astral Plane. There’s a huge new element to this Marvel universe that’s going to be employed in building this story and this character. But you know, I’m really excited about it, about working with Scott [Derrickson] whose imagination is endless, and all the boys and girls at Marvel who know what they’re doing. I’ve got a few things to get under my belt first. I’ve got to do that little stage production of Hamlet in the summer and the Christmas special of Sherlock, which we start shooting in about three days’ time – Whoops! Yeah, that’s there."

For those of you not really familiar with the world of Strange, the Astral Plane is the second of seven levels of existence. The others include Physical, Causal, Akashic, Mental, Messianic, and Buddhaic planes. They all have connections to the physical world that only psychic beings can visit. It's definitely going to be an interestingly awesome new element to explore in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The actor was then asked if he would be heading to the Himalayas to shoot the movie, and this was his reply:

“Ahh … you’ll have to wait and see. I’m not going to be eked out on any spoilers or reveals now. It’s quite a way off but I’m very excited about that spiritual dimension, obviously. It’s something that’s been a huge part of my life.”

Cumberbatch goes on to talk about meditation, his experience with monks in Darjeeling, and whether he would ever take on the mystical arts.

"I meditate a lot. That’s a huge tool in trying to calm myself, get away from the crazy circus of it all, have a focused mind as well as be a kinder, considerate person in the world. I took a lot of stuff away from my experience in Darjeeling, West Bengal, right at the Nepali border. It was Tibetan Buddhist monks in a converted Nepali house in India, with a view of Bhutan. It was a profoundly formative experience at a very young age. It’s something I’ve tried to keep in my life. It features already."

Then, in case you're wondering if the actor ever read the Doctor Strange comics growing up, he admits,

"Growing up, no. I didn’t read many comics at all. Asterix a bit. I think that was it. There weren’t many comics in my household — [in a self-mocking voice] 'I’m so deprived.' We didn’t have Marvel so much. But you can bet your bottom dollar I’m reading them now, avidly."

The movie is part of the third phase of Marvel's plan, and it's scheduled to hit theaters on November 4th, 2016. It seems so far away, but at least we'll have lots of other great Marvel film to watch between now and then.

7 Wild New MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Photos

A collection of new images from George Miller's highly anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road have surfaced online, and one of them features Charlize Theron in the heat of battle... with one arm! It looks like the photos are scans from a magazine, I just can't tell which one. They originate from here (via: AICN). There's also some storyboard art from the film for you to check out. I'm expecting this to be the most entertainingly badass movie of the 2015.

The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.

And… Furiosa (played by CHARLIZE THERON from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.”

The movie also stars Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Nathan JonesMad Max: Fury Road opens on May 15th, 2015. If you want to watch the trailer again, click here.

Scarlett Johansson Officially Cast in GHOST IN THE SHELL

0
0

A couple of months ago we learned that Scarlett Johansson was offered the lead role in DreamWorks Pictures' Ghost in the Shell. According to Variety, she has now officially signed on to star in the live-action adaptation of the classic anime.

The movie will be directed by Rupert Sanders and the story follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.

Apparently producer Steven Spielberg is a huge fan of the property, so I hope he makes sure that the story told in the movie is something the other hardcore fans will be able to embrace. With Sanders on board, the film should look great visually. I just hope the creative team managed to nail down a great script.

A lot of fans seem unhappy with the fact that the studio was looking to cast a white woman in the role of a classic Japanese character, but it should also come as no surprise. This is what Hollywood does when adapting properties like this for American audiences.

When we originally reported on Johansson being offered the role, there was a lot of mixed reactions from fans. I've become a fan of her work over the years, and she has proven that she can kick some ass in film. Now that it's all set in stone, I really hope that she can pull this off in the most awesome of ways.

What do you all think about Johansson nabbing the role?

Stunning Retro Marvel Covers by Phil Noto

Next month, Marvel Comics will release a set of twenty variant covers created by artist by Phil Noto. Each of the amazingly beautiful covers is done in the style of retro photos and magazine covers from publications like TIME and Life from the 1960s and '70s. They offer a candid look at many of our favorite superheroes, and they do a fantastic job of making these characters seem like real people. They aren't staged action poses with over the top proportions. This is the first great art series I’ve seen in 2015.

Billionaire Beat-Down Update - Round 2 is About to Begin

0
0

Hey there Tyrants! Our updated Billionaire Beat-Down bracket is up, and round two is about to begin. Thanks to your votes, the winners of round one have been decided. The Geektyrant VS crew and special guests had such a great time filming our round one of episodes.

There were some seriously close calls. Boba Fett vs Lex Luthor is the most popular video of the series so far, and that episode also received the most votes. Boba Fett edged out Lex Luthor by one single vote. It was insane! Asami vs The Leader of the Third Street Saints was not close at all. Asami supporters showed up and she destroyed the Leader of the Third Street Saints. Lara Croft vs Handsome Jack was also very close, though in the end, votes were counted and Croft was not able to respawn this time. Handsome Jack won by 9 votes. Xanatos vs Black Panther was also heavily voted for. In the end, Xanatos brought as much badass as he could to the fight. Was it enough? Nope. The voters came out for Black Panther, and he won by 35 votes.

Watch for our first episode of round two, Black Panther vs Handsome Jack, to hit the site on Wednesday. It will be a really fun episode to watch.

Submissions to win the six months of Loot Crate are now closed. Thank you to those who signed up and good luck to everyone! Keep on voting on the upcoming episodes to keep your chances of winning alive! Your comments are always appreciated as well. Thank you for watching.
