BATES MOTEL Season 3 Teaser - “Peep Hole”

bates-motel-season-3-teaser-peep-hole

Norman Bates continues his evolution into a crazed killer in the upcoming third series of Bates Motel. This is another one of my favorite shows on TV, and I’m looking forward to its return. The cast of this series, led by the stunning Vera Farmiga and the crazy-creepy Freddie Highmore, is incredible. I’ve really enjoyed the origin story that it’s telling. If you haven’t watched it yet, you should catch up before Season 3 hits.

We have a teaser trailer for you to check out today called “Peep Hole,” and it features little Norman spying on one of his beautiful guests through a little peep hole in the wall. His dark fetish fantasies had to start somewhere.

The third season of this series returns in March of 2015!

Dr. Evil Interrupts SNL to Mock North Korea's Hacking of Sony Pictures

Saturday Night Live had a great moment this weekend when Mike Myers reprised his role as Dr. Evil during the cold open of the show. He mocks North Korea’s hacking of Sony Pictures to stop The Interview's release. During the skit, Dr. Evil amusingly suggests that the best way to kill a movie is to release it in January. He takes comedic jabs at both the hacker group and Sony in his little speech, and it was quite entertaining. It was awesome to see Dr. Evil back! It kind of makes me want to see another Austin Powers movie. I guess if there's one person in the world to weigh in on all this hacking madness, it's Dr. Evil.

Kate Winslet to Join Steve Jobs Film

According to Variety, Kate Winslet is in negotiations to take on the lead female role in Universal Picture’s Steve Jobs biopic. She will join Michael Fassbender, who is set to play Jobs, and Seth Rogen, who is on board to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Jeff Daniels is also looking to join the project as former Apple President John Scully.

Danny Boyle is directing the film from a script written by Aaron Sorkin. The movie was originally set up at Sony Pictures, but they just couldn’t seem to get it together, so they kind of just gave up on it and let Universal Pictures take it.

There’s no word on who Winslet will play in the movie, but it’s probably the same role that Natalie Portman was up for before she dropped out. If that’s the case, Winslet could be playing Jobs’ daughter, but that’s not confirmed.

Sneak Peek at STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Action Figures

A photo has surfaced online giving us a sneak peek at five action figures that are being released in connection with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The figures include Chewbacca; the new droid BB-8; Daisy Ridley's character, Rey; Jon Boyega's Finn, in a different outfit than his Stormtrooper gear; and then a mysterious character. I'm not really sure who it is, but it could be an unfinished version of the person we see wielding the crossguard lightsaber in the trailer, Kylo Ren. Or it could be the character that Gwendoline Christie is playing in the film, rumored to be a Stormtrooper commander of sorts. I will point out that the character's hand is shaped in a way that it could hold a lightsaber.

The photo comes from Chinese-StarWars.com, but I came across it at Rebel ScumStar Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.

Trailer for TRUE STORY With James Franco and Jonah Hill

James Franco and Jonah Hill have a new movie coming out that is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festive next month, called True Story. The movie was directed by Rupert Goold, and the film is an adaption of journalist Michael Finkel‘s memoir that tells a story of mistaken identity and an investigation into falsified New York Times-published articles.

Hill plays Finkel, who learns that an FBI-wanted criminal named Christian Longo (Franco) used his identity before being captured. After Finkel gets fired from the New York Times for reportedly falsifying articles, he begins to talk to Longo which turns into and interesting relationship.

On-the-rise New York Times Magazine writer Michael Finkel receives troubling news from his editors that he is accused of falsifying part of an investigative piece on child laborers in Africa. Jobless and disgraced, Michael retreats from the city and falls into a depression. One day, he hears startling news that a fugitive accused of murdering his family was captured in Mexico claiming the identity of “Michael Finkel of The New York Times.” Intrigued by the story, he travels to interview the accused, identified as Christian Longo, to help save his name.
Rupert Goold’s shrewd first feature pits Jonah Hill against James Franco in a psychological cat-and-mouse game obscured by many “truths.” As the two calculating men share their stories in private, their similarities become clear while their motivations are less so. David Kajganich scripts Finkel’s memoir into a subtle portrait of an unlikely friendship.

True Story opens on April 10th, 2015.

You've got to watch this Marvel Vs. Doc fan-made trailer created by YouTuber Alex Luthor. This thing really is all kinds of awesome. It features several of our favorite characters from the DC and Marvel universes epically battling it out. There's a lot of fun and clever editing here using footage from movies, TV shows, and video games. It's really fun to see what it would be like seeing these characters going ballistic on each other. This is a really entertaining video, and I hope you enjoy it!

Gandalf Plays Super Nintendo's TURTLES IN TIME

We’ve got a new series that we want to try out called “Gandalf Plays.” It centers around Gandalf playing classic video games that many of us grew up with. It’s obviously not the real Gandalf, but the person doing the voice does an amazing impression. His name is Bryan Dayley and he is playing the games with one of our GeekTyrant VS regulars, Parker Abegg. I've always enjoyed listening to Bryan in Gandalf mode, and I thought this was a fun idea. The first episode features him playing the classic 1991 Super Nintendo Game Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesTurtles in Time. This being our first episode, we understand that there may be room for improvement, so please let us know what you think and hit us up with some constructive criticism. I hope you enjoy the video!

How ANT-MAN May Connect to CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

One of the main reasons why Edgar Wright stepped away from Marvel's Ant-Man is because the studio need to changed up the story so that it would fit in with the rest of Marvel's cinematic universe. Thanks to Starlog we have some possible information on how Ant-Man will fit into the bigger picture, including how he it connect to Captain America: Civil War. The information they have comes from a source who claims to be close to the production.

Even though we are treating this information as a rumor for now, I still want to throw out a SPOILER warning, just in case, because you never know! It could end up being the real deal. Now that that's out of the way, here's what they report:

"According to this anonymous party, ANT-MAN will take place alongside the events of AGE OF ULTRON, the fall-out of which will spur on the Superhuman Registration Act. While ANT-MAN is largely self-contained in nature, the references of the MCU will come from Pym’s past as a scientist for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the ’60s, having worked alongside Howard Stark, Arnim Zola and Alexander Pierce. However, in this flashback sequence, Pym will supposedly also have a run-in with a young military hot-head by the name of Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, who Marvel fans have last seen in THE INCREDIBLE HULK as played by William Hurt."

They then go on to explain how this will all fit in with Captain America: Civil War:

"The party goes on to say S.H.I.E.L.D.’s downfall in THE WINTER SOLDIER forced Pym into the private sector, which makes him vulnerable and essentially serves as catalyst for the events that follow in ANT-MAN. And according to the party, a shooting draft of ANT-MAN’s post-credit stinger shows the older Ross re-appearing to Pym, claiming he’d been sent by Tony Stark. When asked why, Ross allegedly responds, 'Haven’t you seen the news? We’re at war.'
"The party also claims Ross will play a supporting role in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3, begrudgingly helping Tony Stark enforce the Superhero Registration Act and giving him military aid as Stark’s hesitant to use his own technology post-ULTRON. The party claims that rumors of Black Widow’s limited involvement in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is also true, as her character will be arrested for aiding fugitive superhumans in a power play by Stark (which will give actress Scarlett Johansson a break from the MCU to focus on her family), though the source says a potential Black Widow jailbreak in a future Marvel film may help bring Scott Lang’s Ant-Man into the AVENGERS fold."

There's a lot of really interesting information here that makes a lot of sense to me. Like I said earlier, I have no idea if this is legit or not. But, it seems cohesive enough, and I could see Marvel implementing these elements and plot points in their cinematic universe. Marvel is always doing exciting stuff and surprising fans, so anything is possible!

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in theaters on May 1st, 2015, Ant-Man will be released on July 17, 2015, and Captain America: Civil War is set to be released on May 6th, 2016.

Image of Benedict Cumberbatch as DOCTOR STRANGE from Scott Derrickson

Last night, director Scott Derrickson gave Marvel fans a little treat with an image of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. It came along with a caption that read, “Strange but not a stranger,” which is from the Talking Heads song "Burning Down the House." There's no word on if this is fan art or something more official giving us a tease of what's to come. One thing is for sure, it's director approved. I love that Cumberbatch is taking on Strange, and I can't wait to see him in full costume!

The Phase 3 Marvel film is set to be released November 4th, 2016. To see a collection of fan art that we previously posted, click here

I've also included the full press release on Cumberbatch's casting from the studio below:

Benedict Cumberbatch has entered the world of the mystic arts.
The actor will star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
Cumberbatch rose to international prominence with his critically acclaimed turn as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous creation in “Sherlock,” currently preparing its fourth season. The series’ most recent season earned Cumberbatch the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2014, after winning the BAFTA/LA Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year in 2013.
Cumberbatch most recently starred in “The Imitation Game,” playing famed mathematician and logician Alan Turing, and will soon be seen in “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” as Smaug and the Necromancer. For the role of Smaug, Cumberbatch stepped into the world of motion capture to bring the dragon to life. He will next be seen in Scott Cooper’s film “Black Mass,” the story of Whitey Bulger coming to theaters next September, where he stars opposite Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton.
The star’s other credits include the Academy Award-winning “12 Years a Slave,” “War Horse,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” “August: Osage County,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “The Fifth Estate,” and “Parade’s End.” Benedict will be returning to the stage this summer in Hamlet at the Barbican with Lyndsey Turner directing. His last stage performance in Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein opposite Jonny Lee Miller awarded him the Olivier.
With “Doctor Strange,” Cumberbatch is just the latest actor to join the bold Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introducing new heroes and continuing the adventures of fan favorites across multiple films.

Custom GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Ravagers Figures Made by Seth Green

Director James Gunn posted a photo of some custom made Guardians of the Galaxy action figures that actor Seth Green made for him. I wish there was a more detailed shot of these, but from what I can see they are pretty awesome. As most of you know, Green is one of the creators of Robot Chicken, so he has a talent for doing stuff like this. Here’s what Gunn had to say about them:

Wow, I have the greatest friends ever. Last night at our annual Christmas get together Seth Green gave me a custom box of Ravagers he made himself! He noticed the world was sadly lacking Ravagers figures and had to step up. I'm blown away. Three of the four Ravagers were with us - Nick Holmes (Horuz's Mate), Dave Yarovesky (Goth Ravager), and Sean Gunn (Kraglin). Sadly, Michael Rooker (Yondu) wasn't there (but is fortunately back in town for Christmas).

These should actually exist for fans to buy!

Amazing Video of Double Amputee Controlling Robotic Arms

I saw this video of double amputee Les Baugh operating two robotic arms and just has to share it. Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab combined and created a lot of the technology involved. After a bit of surgery to apply electrodes to parts of his chest, Baugh can now control the "Modular Prosthetic Limbs" via thought. I can't wait to see what advancements in prosthetics we'll see in the next 10 years. I think the biggest thing will be making them affordable for all amputees.

Taxidermy creeps me the hell out, even when it's good it looks like a zombie animal waiting to attack my face. Artist Mick Minogue made a taxidermied hedgehog as Sonic the Hedgehog and it's equal parts creepy and brilliant. What a creative use of a dead hedgehog. Well done, Minogue. H/T: xombiedirge

Will Daryl Be Killed Off on THE WALKING DEAD?!

will-daryl-be-killed-off-in-the-walking-dead

Daryl Dixon is a fan favorite character on AMC’s The Walking Dead, and a lot of fans seem to think he is a character that is safe from death. But in a recent interview with CNN, Walking dead creator Robert Kirkman said the following;

“No, no one is safe, definitely not. Looking at you Norman Reedus.”

Wait, what!? Now he could be teasing us with this statement, but it really isn’t that hard to believe that Daryl will eventually die. This series is known for killing off main characters just because they can. It has become one of those shows that we watch where we’re all just wondering who’s going to die next. Kirkman and the creative team just seem to enjoy pissing off their fans. (Spoiler Alert!) There was a huge outcry when Beth was killed at the end of the first half of the current season.

Kirkman has even said in the past that even Rick Grimes isn’t safe. But since Rick is the show’s central character, I seriously doubt that he is in danger. They won’t kill him off anytime soon. Daryl is eventually going to die, it’s inevitable, regardless of the fan outrage it would cause. We don’t know when or how it’s going to happen, but one day the show will go on without Daryl. That’s just the kind of show that AMC and The Walking Dead team is giving us. Love it or leave it.

Heart-Pounding New Trailer for IN THE HEART OF THE SEA with Chris Hemsworth

heart-pounding-new-trailer-for-in-the-heart-of-the-sea-with-chris-hemsworth

Director Ron Howard's new film In the Heart of the Sea looks awesome and intense! I'm really excited about seeing this epic adventure up on the big screen. The film is based on a book by Nathaniel Philbrick that tells the terrifying true story that inspired the classic tale of Moby Dick. it follows a whaling ship named the Essex, which was stalked and annihilated by a sperm whale in 1820. The crew was stranded thousands of miles from home, and they spent 90 days lost at sea doing everything they could to survive. I've got to say that this looks like it's going to be a filmmaking masterpiece.

The cast of the film includes Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Tom Holland, Brendan Gleeson, and Jordi Molla. Here's the official synopsis:

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Melville's Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. In the Heart of the Sea reveals the encounter's harrowing aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

The film opens in theaters on March 13th, 2015.

Leaked Concept Art For Kylo Ren — STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

(Possible Spoilers, Obviously)

Earlier today we posted leaked action figures from Star Wars: The Force Awakens that showed the front of Kylo Ren. Thanks to Indie Revolver we now have a detailed and colored look at what his helmet looks like. The black was expected, but the gold is a touch we've yet to see on a Sith. Rumor is that Ren is completely untrained but drawn to the Darkside of the force and is obsessed with the Sith. We also have what amounts to a thumbnail from Jason Ward, but I thought I might as well include it.

Korean artist Na Young Wu’s manga style illustrations of characters in Western folktales wearing hanbok (traditional Korean formal wear) made the rounds on the Internet this past weekend. All of the photos I came across were really low resolution. So I went on a search for the largest versions of each image. Luckily, I just so happen to speak Korean, so I was able to navigate through random sites and forums on Naver (South Korea’s answer to Google) to find many of these hi-res images. I’ve provided the largest resolution files I could find, and came across a few other illustrations from the artist that I didn’t see on other sites.

Marvel Casts LUKE CAGE in Netflix Series

Now that principal photography on Marvel's Daredevil series is complete, the studio is ready to move forward with Luke Cage. According to THR, the studio has officially cast Mike Colter (The Following, Halo: Nightfall, The Good Wife) in the title role of the series. The guy is a great actor, and he definitely looks like he has what it take to play this badass role. The report offers up the following information about his character:

MikeColterlukecage9
"During the course of an investigation in New York, private investigator Jessica Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage — a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica herself in ways she could never have imagined."

So Colter will make his Marvel universe debut with a recurring role opposite Krysten Ritter in Jessica Jones before he gets his own series. It seems like there could be a lot of crossover with the two series. The only main character left to cast for Marvel's Netflix series is Iron Fist.

Everyone will eventually team up for The Defenders, which is said to conclude all four stories. I'm looking froward to jumping into this new world of Marvel superheroes. I hope these series kick ass!

Laika Announces New Animated Film KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS

laika-announces-new-animated-film-kubo-and-the-two-strings

Laika Studios, the production company that brought us Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, has announced their next film project! The fourth film in the studio’s history will be called Kubo and the Two Strings, and it’s based on a very cool and original story that’s described as ”a sweeping, swashbuckling adventure set in a mythical ancient Japan.”

The story comes from ParaNorman writers Marc Haimes and Chris Butler, and it will be directed by Laika founder Travis Knight. The film will be shot and developed using what’s described as a “innovative 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid technique.” That’s basically how they make all of their films.

The voice cast for the movie includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes, and Brenda VaccaroArt Parkinson, who plays Rickon Stark on Game of Thrones, is providing the voice for the lead role of Kubo. Here’s a synopsis:

In the epic fantasy, scruffy, kindhearted Kubo ekes out a humble living while devotedly caring for his mother in their sleepy shoreside village. It is a quiet existence – until a spirit from the past catches up with him to enforce an age-old vendetta. Suddenly on the run from gods and monsters, Kubo’s chance for survival rests on finding the magical suit of armor once worn by his fallen father, the greatest samurai the world has ever known. Summoning courage, Kubo embarks on a thrilling odyssey as he faces his family’s history, navigates the elements, and bravely fights for the earth and the stars.

Knight said this in a statement:

"Kubo and the Two Strings is a rare gem. It’s a gripping yarn woven from Japanese folktales and mythology, with lost civilizations, mystical origami, noble heroes, star-crossed lovers, and blood-curdling monsters. At once epic and intimate, Kubo is a funny, intense, and ultimately uplifting fairy tale draped in some of the most bizarre and exciting imagery I’ve ever seen. Most importantly, it’s deeply moving. It’s a story that means something, a story that deserves to be told. In short, it’s a LAIKA movie. And with a poetic script, sublime cast, and our freakishly talented artists and craftspeople, Kubo will be a strange, stirring, and altogether stunning film. I can’t wait to share it with the world."

Sounds like a winner to me! Just like all the previous films the studio has made. Kubo and the Two Strings is set to open on August 19th, 2016.
