Amy Adams Discusses Lois Lane's Role in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

With all of the new superhero characters that will be flooding Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where does that leave Lois Lane? In an interview with Collider, Amy Adams talks about reprising her role, and how her character will fit into this story that is overloaded with new characters. When asked how she will stand out, she says,

“Lois is still sort of like the key to the information, you know? She’s the girl going out and getting it and figuring it out and putting it together and all of that, so she’s very much involved, but I kind of leave the heavy lifting to the boys, you know? So to speak.”

She then goes on to talk about the superhero team, and hints at who she might be sharing some screen time with.

“They’re awesome together. It’s kind of like this big fest of muscles … it was really kind of nice. And then you add Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot and I felt very short and, yeah.”

It seems as if she will not only be hanging around with Superman, but Aquaman and Wonder Woman as well. Could Lois Lane be the one responsible for bringing some of these heroes together? She did say that she's the one "going out" and "putting it together." Her role in the story might be bigger than we initially thought. It would make sense, but let's wait and see what happens.

I like that Adams is playing Lois. It was a great casting decision, and she fits the part extremely well. The movie hits theaters on March 25th, 2016.

The Poster Posse is back, and they have come together to pay tribute to Ridley Scott's classic sci-fi horror film Alien, which celebrated its 35th Anniversary this year. I can't believe it's been 35 years since that movie was released! The movie launched the career of Sigourney Weaver and introduced the world to the Xenomorph, one of the most terrifying aliens in the history of film.

I've included several pieces of art that have been submitted for the first phase of this tribute project below.

5 Films Banned For Ridiculous Reasons

$
0
0

Sony officially scrapped their plans for a theatrical release of The Interview. Believe it or not, it's not the first Seth Rogen film to be banned, nor is it Sony's first run in with North Korea. While it doesn't happen often, theaters internationally do ban films at the requests of protests, threats, or concern for human safety. Some reasons, such as the banning of the infamous film Birth of a Nation for racism, are obvious. The ones on this list...eh, I'll let you be the judge.

THE LIFE OF BRIAN

  • Banned in several U.S. cities in 1979 over controversial scenes depicting Christianity.

Okay so I understand Christianity is a touchy subject, especially in the form of parody, but Brian is very clearly not Jesus Christ! THEY SHOW IT IN THE BEGINNING OF THE FILM! Is this movie truly any worse than Mel Brooks: History of the World? With that said, most films depicting religion in any sort are often scrutinized before their release and soon after. Knee jerk reactions often give way and I'm almost positive you can find this film in a Wal-Mart right now.

Zack And Miri Make A Porno

  • Banned In Thailand Countrywide for pornographic themes.

That's right, Thailand banned Zack and Miri Make A Porno for the sex in the movie. One of the top sex tourism capitals of the world banned a film because of the sex. The nation that turns a blind eye to underage exploitation, human trafficking, and prostitution was not comfortable with the content of this film. WHY?! The Thailand Ministry of Culture believed that if teens saw this movie they would get the idea to film their own porno. So maybe it wasn't the sex, but amateur cinematography that really got them bent out of shape. They are the ministry of culture after all.

THE GRAPES OF WRATH

  • Banned in The Soviet Union By Joseph Stalin in the late 1940s. The ban has since been lifted.

There's a Yakov Smirnoff joke somewhere in this blurb, but I can't find it. Maybe it's because in America we make the joke and in Soviet Russia the joke is you?! OHHHH! Anyway, Stalin banned the American classic from showing in the Soviet Union as it depicted a poor American family. You'd think the way Stalin ran Russia he would be all about depicting poor families making the most they can of life and trying to improve their situation! Stalin's main gripe however, was that even the poorest American family could still afford an automobile, which is more than he could say for his country.

2012

  • Banned in North Korea due to the depiction of the year 2012.

The Interview was actually round two in the cinematic censorship fight between North Korea and Sony. 2012 is a big year in the North Korean culture. This is the 100th birthday of Kim Il Sung, grandfather of Kim Jong Un, and the opening of the "Grand Gates." The "Grand Gates" were a metaphor to the beginning of North Korea's rise as a superpower, or maybe they were actual slave built gates that were believed to do that. The important thing was this event was huge, and releasing a disaster movie with the same name as the year this happened was unacceptable! This is the nation that is keeping us from seeing a new movie in our own country folks.

Barney's Great Adventure

  • Banned in Malaysia and deemed unsuitable for children. It is still banned and Malaysia has never elaborated on their reasoning.

Picture yourself in a dark and hot room in Malaysia. There's men smoking cigarettes murmuring in hushed voices. A security check is ran along the perimeter of the building to make sure there is no one trying to sneak a peek. Finally the hour is at hand and these men subject themselves to Barney's Great Adventure. Those men decided this film would not see the light of day in their country, but why? To this day no official reason except "unsuitable for children" has been given. I like to think they watched it and thought it was so bad they didn't want to show it to children in fear they would like it. A world without Barney... Malaysia is living the dream.

STAR WARS Prequels Nearly Ended Natalie Portman's Career

Previous to Star Wars: Episode I, Natalie Portman only had a handful of screen credits, the most notable being in Léon: The Professional as Mathilda. But the terrible dialog and direction by George Lucas tainted the young actress' career. Her most visible work was also her most awful. From 1999 until 2003 Portman was in two middling films and had a single cameo. No director wanted to work with her.

It wasn't until Mike Nichols took action to help her land a role in Cold Mountain that things began to turn around for her. Portman, in her own words, on how it happened:

Star Wars had come out around the time of [The Seagull], and everyone thought I was a horrible actress. I was in the biggest-grossing movie of the decade, and no director wanted to work with me. Mike wrote a letter to Anthony Minghella and said, “Put her in Cold Mountain, I vouch for her.” And then Anthony passed me on to Tom Tykwer, who passed me on to the Wachowskis.

Cold Mountain, V for Vendetta, and Garden State put her back on track to survive the mess that is the Star Wars prequel trilogy. This is in direct contrast to Hayden Christensen who, despite earlier roles, seems to be a terrible actor.

Marvel has released a new photo from their upcoming Daredevil Netflix series. It features Charlie Cox all decked out in an early version of his Daredevil costume. It also shows him having taken down a bad guy in the streets of New York. There's also a photo of Cox as Matt Murdock, but that's an image we've already seen. The photos come from Entertainment Weekly, and the scans from Film Divider. Here's the synopsis:

Marvel's Daredevil is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

In a previous interview with showrunner Stephen S. DeKnight, he talked about what their vision of the series is saying:

"With this version of Daredevil we wanted it to be grounded, gritty, as realistic as we could portray. That naturally fits in with the Daredevil character. Matt Murdock, on a regular basis, would get the shit beat out of him. That's one thing that makes him a great character. He's not super strong. He's not invulnerable. In every aspect, he's a man that's just pushed himself to the limits, he just has senses that are better than a normal humans. He is human. The other thing that really drew me to this character is that he's one of the most morally grey of the heroes... He's a lawyer by day, and he's taken this oath. But every night he breaks that oath, and goes out and does very violent things."

I can't wait to finally be able to see some footage from the series. It seems like it's shaping up to be awesome. It's set to premiere in 2015.

Hot Toys' Tony Stark with Arc Reactor Creation 1/6th Scale Set

After jumping in the water first and making such a big splash with the first Iron Man film, it seemed like Jon Favreau was forced to awkwardly tread the same same water in Iron Man 2 so as to not swim too far ahead of the origin films for Captain America and Thor, which were a solid year or more away. The stakes didn’t seem high enough, and all the groundwork being laid for the eventual Avengers team up just wasn’t as fun as it could have been. Even though Iron Man 2 had its missteps — pretty much everyone involved in the making of that film, including Favreau and Robert Downey, Jr., have acknowledged its flaws — it had some extraordinary set pieces and very iconic imagery. Who granted Mickey Rourke’s requests to do scenes in his underwear? Yeah, that was Favs. But who made a scene involving an overflowing amount of bullshit science fun and memorable? Give your compliments to the Chef on that one. That scene is beautifully replicated in the Tony Stark with Arc Reactor Creation 1/6th Scale Set that Hot Toys has announced. Here’s a description of what comes with the set:

“This collectible set includes a specially crafted collectible figure based on the image of Robert Downey Jr. as the genius billionaire Tony Stark in Iron Man 2, featuring a newly developed head sculpt, an advanced body with light-up chest light, detailed outfit, the Captain America shield prototype which he has used to level the particle accelerator and workshop accessories.”

Guillermo del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK — First Image of Jessica Chastain

We had a few peaks of Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak at last year's Comic-Con and it looked lovingly creepy. Del Toro visual skills are in full effect for this tale. The Film Stage tweeted our first image of Jessica Chastain in a twisted dress looking very much like a character out of a Hammer horror film.

Crimson Peak lurches into theaters October 16th, 2015 (USA).

1980s Inspired Dark Horror Comedy Short - THE GREY MATTER

1980s-inspired-dark-horror-comedy-short-the-grey-matter

I've got an amazing short film for you to watch today called "The Grey Matter." It's a morbidly funny horror comedy that was directed by Peter McCoubrey and Luke McCoubrey

The story follows "an office stiff who, after suffering a mysterious injury, finds himself stumbling through a courtship with a coworker… but something strange is afoot. With the romantic guidance of a creature unearthed from his head wound, he finds himself stumbling through an absurd, increasingly unorthodox, and potentially fatal attraction."

The movie was inspired by the genre movies of the 1980s. Peter has this to say in a statement regarding the film:

"We’ve always loved the way they [80s films] often bounced around from horror — to comedy — to enigmatic — to just flat out weird… as well as their inventive use of practical FX. Films like An American Werewolf in London, Return of the Living Dead, Big Trouble in Little China, The Fly, Brain Damage and Brazil all had a level of influence over the film’s initial conception. We wanted to honor the wild, inventive, and playful spirit of those films but at the same time create a film that felt modern, cinematic, and hopefully leave the audience wanting more."

This was such a fun and entertaining movie to watch and I really hope you all enjoy it! Thanks to the directors for sending this in to us!

Duncan Jones Says He Won't Direct STAR TREK 3

Moon and Warcraft director Duncan Jones recently popped up on a short list of directors that Paramount Pictures wants to direct Star Trek 3. After the news broke, Jones took to Twitter to explain that he's not going to do it because he's more interested in developing a project of his own. Here's what he had to say in a series of tweets:

"Very flattering being on short list for Star Trek, but won't be doing it. Absolutely MUST make my own thing next, or I'll die of old age!"
"As for what that thing will be, pushing two to see which will go first. I'm equally in love with both scripts..."

It's very likely that Mute will be one  of the original projects that Jones wants to make next. He's been talking about it for years, and earlier this year he said that he'd like to make it after he's done with Warcraft, and that he was going to give it "one more push before I put it on the Don Quixote shelf." He's also having a graphic novel for it developed, and when asked if that was still happening he said:

"The mighty @FabryGlenn is dragging himself through broken glass to get it to us. Whats already done is stunning!"

I hope he is able to get it made. It really does sound like it could make for a great movie. It has been likened to Blade Runner. Here are some previously revealed details:

There's a couple of villains in there which I'm really excited about. They're so different than anything you've seen. I hope I get the chance to make the film because they're going to be very unique, you're not going to have seen anyone like these two guys before...
No aliens, nothing like that. It's a very human story, it's about normal, normal people having to live in this future city. Science fiction is more of a backdrop, in some ways, than you might expect. But I like that, because ... if you allow [science fiction] to be in the backdrop and not be what it's all about, then the humanity is what you're really concentrating on and looking at. You see why people are the way they are , and how they've maintained their humanity in these science-fiction settings. Or the opposite, why their humanity starts to be eroded. When they started to lose their humanity because of the world that they live in, and that's what this film is going to be about.

As much as I would have loved to see what he would do with the Star Trek universe, I'm happy that he's going to focus his attention on an original film for his next project.

WB Has Six WONDER WOMAN Scripts Being Written Simultaneously?

Screenwriter and producer, Arash Amel, who wrote Erased and Grace of Monaco, claims to have some interesting intel regarding the Wonder Woman solo film set up at Warner Bros. According to what he knows, WB has hired six screenwriters to write six separate scripts for the film. The idea behind it would be for the studio to pick the best script or several elements from the scripts for Michelle MacLaren to direct.

Is this the best idea for WB to get the best possible Wonder Woman movie? I think it's kind of a messy way of doing things, and Amel also goes on a crazy rant about the way the studio is handling the film's development. He seems pretty pissed off, and you can read his series of tweets regarding it below.

Do you think this is a solid game plan for WB's Wonder Woman movie, or do you think it's over-the-top?

AMERICAN SNIPER Has an Incredible New Trailer and Clip

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer and clip from Clint Eastwood’s intense looking military film American Sniper. Bradley Cooper stars as real life American hero Chris Kyle, whose badass skills as a sniper made him the deadliest sniper in United State history. There was much more to him than his skill as a sharpshooter, though, and this film will tell that story.

The trailer is fantastic, and offers up a lot of praise for the movie, as well as new footage. The clip is called “Most Wanted Man in Iraq,” and it features Kyle being briefed on a mission that he’s headed into.

U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname “Legend.” However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world.
Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the spirit of the SEAL creed to “leave no one behind.” But upon returning to his wife, Taya Renae Kyle (Sienna Miller), and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.

The movie hits theaters on December 25th, 2014.

SPIDER-WOMAN Gets a New Costume Design After 37 Years

spider-woman-get-a-new-costume-design-after-37-years

After 37 years of fighting crime in the same outfit, Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, has been given a new costume. Spider-Woman was introduced to the Marvel comics universe in 1977, and the new outfit keeps the spirit of the original, but offers a different and cool new modern look. It includes more leather, black pants, two-toned gloves and a jacket that goes "from streetwear to spider-bedecked superhero gear in just a few snaps."

When talking about the costume, the comic's editor, Nick Lowe, said he "wanted a costume that walked the line between superhero-ready and something a woman would wear in the real world. But for the most part they're clothes to kick ass in." The redesign will also start a tone change for the series that will see the character return to a more 'street-level' approach to crime fighting. Lowe says:

"Spider-Man isn't really a detective — he swings around looking for trouble, whereas Jess needs to go and figure stuff out and dig things up, and you can't really do that head to toe in spandex very well. To operate on the level she wants to, she needs something that can pass for semi-normal and she can turn it on to crazy if she needs to."

The costume will appear today in the mobile game Spider-Man Unlimited. Tt will later make its comic book debut in Spider-Woman #5 in March of 2015. Thanks to USA Today.

Sony Releases New TV Spot for THE INTERVIEW After Movie Is Cancelled

sony-releases-new-tv-spot-for-the-interview-after-movie-is-cancelled

A day after Sony Pictures cancelled James Franco and Seth Rogen's action comedy The Interview, the studio released a new TV spot for it called "In Franco & Rogen We Trust." I just assume that this was an accident, but maybe it wasn't. The video was uploaded and set to go live today. The title of the trailer signifies how Sony Pictures felt before they up and scrapped the film. The studio stood behind Franco and Rogen through the situation until there were threats of blowing up theaters. The trailer also came along with the following caption:

Only one movie has the whole world talking. In Rogen and Franco we trust.

The spot advertises the December 25th release date, but I'm pretty sure that the movie is still not being released. If they did release this spot on purpose, it pretty much sums up the absurdity of the situation. Especially the part where some security guards strip Rogen naked, and he gets revenge by waving his penis at them. Maybe it was on purpose!

A video that was shot on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been released, and it features the cast and crew of J.J. Abrams' film thanking everyone who donated to help further the success of UNICEF Innovation Labs and Programs. They managed to raise $4.26 million for the charity, which is pretty awesome.

As you’ll see, the video is loaded with lots of cool stuff in the background that fans can speculate about. They go by fast, so you have to look quick. It also includes cameos by Chewbacca and R2-D2. Thanks to Omaze, who uploaded the video on YouTube.

James Gunn Reveals Original Mix Tape from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

james-gunn-reveals-original-mix-tape-from-guardians-of-the-galaxy-cpgt

James Gunn has quickly jumped up to the top of my favorite directors list. Not just because of the awesome film's he has directed, like Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither, but because he is a freaking cool guy. Gunn is also heavily connected with social media, and today, as promised, he revealed the original Awesome Mix Vol. 1 for Guardians of the Galaxy on Facebook. Here's his reveal and breakdown of the the music:

For the first time, the ENTIRE AWESOME MIX VOLUME 1

In honor of this new Facebook like page, I thought I'd give you what many of you have been asking for for so long. When Chris Pratt and I started working together on Guardians of the Galaxy, I gave him a mixed tape (okay, I admit, a mixed CD) of Awesome Mix Volume 1, that he could listen to endlessly, so he'd know it backwards and forwards, just as Quill knew the tape his mom gave him. As I've mentioned in the past, it contained a few songs that were not on the eventual soundtrack. Here is that original list - the newer songs have a * -

I’m Not in Love - 10cc
Come and Get Your Love – Redbone
Go All the Way – Raspberries (band)
*Never Been to Spain – Three Dog Night
Hooked on a Feeling – Blue Swede
*Magic - Pilot (band)
The Pina Colada Song – Rupert Holmes
*Livin’ Thing – Electric Light Orchestra
Moonage Daydream - David Bowie (Official)
Fooled Around and Fell in Love – Elvin Bishop
*Fox on the Run - The Sweet
Cherry Bomb – The Runaways
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
O-O-H Child – Five Stairsteps
*Surrender – Cheap Trick

Some of these songs were in the first cut of the movie - the mean blue guard danced through the prison listening to Magic on Quill's headphones, and Livin Thing featured in a montage in the Milano after the gang left the prison. We shot Quill singing "Never Been to Spain" at the Nova guards in an aggressive manner when he was having his mug shot taken, but the winding-up-the-finger gag worked better, so it never made the cut. The rest were never really in, but I thought this would give you a good idea of the complete Awesome Mix to which young Peter Quill might have lived his life.

Also, in all honesty, Moonage Daydream wasn't on the original tape - I added it in post-production - but I thought I'd leave it on the list to keep things simple.

As you can see, Ain't No Mountain High Enough and I Want You Back are not on this list as they were technically a part of Awesome Mix Volume 2. I didn't want Chris to be familiar with those songs.

Finally, if you like these new tracks, go download them from iTunes in honor of the great bands who helped inspire the film.

I, along with hundreds of thousands, fell in love with this soundtrack the moment we saw this movie. I believe we can fall in love with all these additional songs as well. I personally have a soft spot for "Surrender" by Cheap Trick. What do you think of the original mix? Any songs you love?

Mark Hamill and Adam Driver Talk STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

$

Mark Hamill and Adam Driver recently talked to EW about working on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We still don't know who exactly Driver is playing in the story, but he sure is excited to be a part of it. Talking about the film he revealed what he identified with the most in the original trilogy:

"I always think back to the original movies and to those quieter moments where Luke is out in A New Hope, and there are the two suns setting. It is the equivalent, basically, of a farm boy dying to get out of his small town and do something bigger. It’s those kinds of universal themes that ground this whole thing in space.”

As for Hamill, we all know who he plays in the film, and I can't wait to see him back in action. He talked about how he has a different appreciation of the franchise and role that launched his career.

"I don’t know that I’m even completely recovered from my state of shock [on getting the call on the new trilogy].  Part of the experience of [Star Wars] in my life was coming down from that, putting it behind me. We had a beginning, a middle, and an end. And I certainly, in a million years, never expected to return. I thought, ‘Even if they do more trilogies, my story is over.’  It’s kind of like Scrooge on Christmas morning.  ‘Oh my God, this time I’m going to appreciate it in a way I wasn’t able to as a young man.’ ”

It's going to be quite an amazing experience returning to the Star Wars universe. I really hope that it lives up to the expectations of fans.

DISGAEA 5: ALLIANCE OF VENGEANCE Announced for PS4

One of the biggest questions for me in considering the newest console generation was, "Who has the RPGs?" I spent most of the last generation on 360, and it was sorely lacking in that department. Now, being on a PlayStation 4, it's been a waiting game to see when the JRPG publishers would finally make the leap to next-gen.

That wait now has an official release date, as Atlus and NIS America announced strategy RPG Disgaea 5 will be coming to PS4 sometime in fall of 2015. Two of the biggest additions to the game are new systems Alliance Attack and Revenge. Alliance Attack allows your main characters to open new moves and combo attacks as time goes on and they fight in battle together. Revenge mode allows your characters to go into an enhanced battle mode after suffering enough punishment. Both are welcome additions to an already dense system, and here's hoping that the characters themselves feature the same quirky attitudes that the series is known for.

The buzz is building for Matthew Vaughn's badass-looking action spy thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service, and today we have a great new International trailer for your viewing enjoyment. It seems to feature a good amount of entertaining new footage. This is one of my most anticipated films of 2015. It just seems like its going to be a hell of a good time.

The film is based on the comic book created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. It tells the story of "a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency's ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius."

Kingsman: The Secret Service hits theaters on February 13th, 2015.
