Funny TERMINATOR: GENISYS Franchise Paradox Parody Trailer

funny-terminator-genisys-franchise-paradox-parody-trailer

Terminator: Genisys is going to create whole new parallel timeline that will be connected to the original two films. By the time they are finished with this new trilogy of films, who knows what this crazy timeline is going to end up looking like? I'm really curious to see how it will all fit together chronologically, and I'm sure someone will attempt to make an infographic when it's all said and done.

We've got a fun fan-made trailer for your viewing enjoyment, which takes the first trailer for Genisys and mockingly explores the Terminator Genisys paradox. The video came with the following caption:

The resistance goes head to head with Skynet to see who can destroy the time stream first.

This it pretty hilarious. I think you'll enjoy it.

Big Details on BATMAN V SUPERMAN - Film's Opening, Doomsday Battle, and More

$

Some more new details have surfaced for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. They do contain SPOILERS, so I'm just throwing that out there. You can decide if you want to keep reading or not.

The information comes from Badass Digest, and it gives us some insight into the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, Superman's attitude, and how the battle with Doomsday plays out. But first lets start out with how the movie will open:

"Batman v Superman opens with Batman's origin and fast forwards to Bruce Wayne coming to Metropolis during the Superman/Zod fight, but that's just setting the stage for that character. From there the script turns its attention to Superman heavily, and it examines the implications of Superman in the real world."

It's going to be interesting to see a condensed version of Batman's origin. The main part of the story will take place two years after the events of Man of Steel. Clark and Lois are still in a relationship and are now living together. Clark still works at the Daily Planet, and while he's covering stuff like the Metropolis and Gotham football game, he is more interested in writing about Batman. The site then drops some intel on how the rest of the the world views Superman:

"Very early in the film Lois is in the Middle East following a story when Superman shows up to help her out. This becomes something of an international incident as other nations view Superman as a tool of the United States. China, for instance, doesn't want him in their air space. It's an interesting look at how a being like Superman would be viewed on a global scale."

Superman has learned a few lesson's since Man of Steel. He's apparently not going around and breaking necks anymore. At one point he confronts a villain in the story and says to him,  "I won't snap your neck, I'm going to take you to prison." A lot of fans weren't happy with Superman breaking Zod's neck in the first film, so will this make them happy? Maybe, you can never really please all of the fans. Of course, the superhero does lose his temper at one point and threatens to break the villain's back. I'm ok with Supes doing what he needs to do to get the job done. The sire then reports a couple things about Superman's battle with Doomsday:

"When the Doomsday fight starts General Swanwick tells the military that Superman will move the battle away from populated areas because he's a hero, and that's what heroes do."

I guess they aren't looking at causing thousands of civilian deaths in the sequel. It's also interesting to learn that Swanwick is more of a supporter of Superman. I'm sure that trust will build throughout the course of the movie. In case you forgot, the General was tracking Superman with drones at the end of Man of Steel. Most people believe that Superman is a hero, except for Lex Luthor and Batman. Batman, of course, builds himself some anti-Superman weaponry.

The site says that this information comes from a script that was handed into the studio a month before principal photography began. So I'm sure a lot of what we've read here will end up in the film.

Frank Oz to Reprise Yoda on STAR WARS REBELS

$

Star Wars Rebels is only halfway through its first season and has already had Star Wars film alums James Earl Jones (Darth Vader) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) reprise their roles on the show. Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) is also planned for a yet to be revealed episode.

We can now add Frank Oz (Yoda) to the list of movie cast members  who have returned to Star Wars via their voice. Rebels co-creator Dave Filoni has said that Yoda will not appear in the flesh, which would obviously confuse younger viewers or disrupt continuity.

While talking to TV Guide, Filoni had this to add:

“What’s great about Frank, by keeping the voice very present and active, you do feel that it’s a watchfulness and that he’s speaking to you from afar. And I didn’t want anyone to think that he had left Dagobah [the planet where Yoda first trains Luke Skywalker]. It was on the outer rim of what we do, but I think we were able to pull it off.”

There are only couple ways that I think this would work. A flash-back with a young Kanan Jarrus at the Jedi Temple, a recorded message, or force vision. The show has been really excellent and is built around great characters. I can't wait to see how this show will develop over the next year.

Star Wars Rebels returns January 5th, 2015 9/8c on Disney XD.

Mind-Blowing Silver Surfer Body Paint That Looks Like a 2D Comic Cover

Last month, we posted 2D artwork that manipulated blue notebook-style lines to create the illusion that the art was popping off the page. Today we have a project that does the exact opposite: taking something three dimensional (a guy wearing nothing but briefs and body paint) and making it appear like 2D artwork. Makeup effects artist Cris Alex used PPI Skin Illustrator to create the makeup for this amazing Silver Surfer cosplay photoshoot. She then photographed the model with strong light to eerily mimic the flat feel of an old school comic. Ron Lim’s art for Silver Surfer Vol. 3 #20 was used as inspiration, and I’ve included the cover below the photos for comparison.

KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE - Poster and New Recruits Featurette

Here is a new poster and featurette for director Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. I assume those unfamiliar with Vaughn’s previous work (Kick-Ass, Layer Cake) look at this film and have no idea what to make of it. The characters look very over the top, with Samuel L. Jackson as a lisping villain with no stomach for violence, newcomer Taron Egerton as a stereotypical foul-mouthed street kid, and a girl (Sofia Boutella) running around with swords for legs. Despite the campy elements, the movie also seems to take itself quite seriously. The cast is stellar — Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Mark Strong, Mark Hamill; and the action, though uniquely cartoonish, is extremely brutal — watch the featurette below and the red band trailer for a taste. Along with some new footage from the film, the featurette also has interviews with Vaughn and the cast talking about the story.

Vaughn is juggling tones and genres here, and he does that masterfully. The sheer fact that he walked away from directing X-Men:Days of Future Past to direct this new film means this is something special. He renewed everyone’s faith and interest in the X-Men franchise with First Class, and it looks like he’s putting the fun back in spy movies with Kingsman.

The movie will be premiering at Sundance on January 27th, so we’ll be sure to give you the final verdict after we watch the film. It will then open to general audiences on February 13th.

Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency's ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius

Jon Hamm on Why He Won't Be a Superhero

$

Jon Hamm has been rumored to be in the running for many superhero roles. With his name quickly getting removed again and again. Despite all that, fans have continued to campaign for him to be various heroes.

Hamm on Radio Times reveals why he's never taken up any possible offers:

"The deals that they make you do are so draconian. And, of course, you are signed on for not only the movie that you are signed on for… but at least two more that you haven’t read and you have no idea what they are going to be and all the crossover ones you are going to have to do.

For me to sign on now to do a superhero movie would mean I would be working until I am 50 as that particular superhero. It's a lot of work at one thing which is not necessarily the reason I got into the business which is to do many things. If you want to spend all day pressing the same key that ... seems an odd choice."

In another interview Hamm said that he has "crazy respect" for those who can do it and do it well. Hamm brings up a lot of good points, and setting yourself be completely at the control of the studio sounds very unattractive.

If Hamm doesn't want to be a hero with all the risk that it entails, maybe he should play a villain. Those roles, with the exception of Tom Hiddleston as Loki, are one-and-done commitments. At the very least, we'll have years of random Hamm cameos to look forward to.

Tim Burton’s BEETLEJUICE Sequel Is “Closer Than Ever”

We’ve been hearing about a Beetlejuice sequel since 2010 when Michael Keaton said that he wanted it to happen. Four years later the actor says that he’s still up for it. The script for the sequel is being developed by Seth Grahame-Smith, author of the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and director Tim Burton made it a top priority of his.

ComingSoon.net had the opportunity to talk with Burton while he was doing press for his upcoming movie Big Eyes. During the interview they asked him about the long-discussed sequel to Beetlejuice, and this is what he told them:

“It’s a character that I love and I miss and I miss actually working with Michael. There’s only one Betelgeuse. We’re working on a script and I think it’s probably closer than ever and I’d love to work with him again.”

It’s great know that they are still pushing forward on the project, and that it’s closer than ever to happening. This has been a solid couple of years for Keaton who had roles in Robocop and Need For Speed and also gave an Oscar-worthy performance in Birdman. It would be simply amazing to see him reprise his role as the ghost with the most.

If there’s one sequel that needs to happen soon, it’s this one.

Stunning STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Poster Art by Paul Shipper

Artist Paul Shipper has delivered some incredibly cool movie poster art over the years, many of which you can check out right here. We've also seen a lot of fan art for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, some of which you can see here and here. This stunning illustration that Shipper has come up with, though, is by far one of the best pieces of fan art that I've seen for the film. It kind of sucks that it won't be an official poster. I seriously want a print of this.

Plot Details for Paul Feig’s GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot

plot-details-for-paul-feigs-ghostbusters-reboot

Are you curious to know more about what Paul Feig is planning with his Ghostbusters reboot? Well, we have some new SPOILER filled details from Vulture about what the story will entail.

The information comes from an email sent to Sony chief Amy Pascal, and in it Feig throws out a bunch of ideas for the story. Some of those idea include the team's origin story, the villain, and a part that Cecily Strong might play.

As we previously learned, the movie will center around an all-female Ghostbusters team, and it is going to be a complete reboot starting from scratch and not a sequel. The site goes on to give us the following information:

Humans aren't afraid of no ghosts, he says, because they haven't met them yet. He says his film will be "scarier and more hi-tech" than the original Ghostbusters: The villain will be a convicted murderer, ideally played by Peter Dinklage, who turns into a ghost after his execution is hit by "a supercharged electrical storm." This gives him the power to raise an army of other ghosts, which could be made up of famous villains throughout history. It's like Night at the Museum! These ghosts will in turn have to be busted by "four very different women" who have to "figure out in funny, scary and action-packed ways how to save New York City and the world."

There are actually some really fun ideas here. I would love it if Dinklage was cast as the villain, and the idea of building an army of ghosts made up of famous historical villains is pretty cool. As hard as it might be for me to admit, this could be a fun movie. There, I said it, and I feel dirty about it.

The site goes on to talk about franchise opportunities, revealing the following:

“The Ghostbusters will work for the U.S. government, but, because ghosts don't officially exist, the government will have to continually disavow their relationship. He sees Strong as their bureaucratic nemesis who's ‘always saying terrible things about them in press conferences and then apologizing to them behind the scenes.’ Every time God closes a ‘Weekend-Update’-shaped door, He opens a Ghostbusters-sized window. There’s a lot of interesting stuff here.

Yesterday we also learned that Channing Tatum wanted to make a spinoff Ghostbusters movie with Chris Pratt. The way Fieg wants to set up this universe would easily allow for that. Teaming up these two actors for a Ghostbusters movie was an idea that a lot of people seemed to really like… including myself.

You know what's sad about this trailer for the fake supernatural romance film called MoonQuake Lake? It doesn't look any more ridiculous than a lot of the stuff that Hollywood is pumping out to audiences these days.

The story is supposed to center on Mila Kunis' character, a girl who has to return to the Moon every night, and Ashton Kutcher plays her love interest. According to US Magazine, the fake trailer is in the upcoming Annie remake.

J.K. Simmons Joins KONG: SKULL ISLAND

Actor J.K. Simmons, who you might know best from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, has joined Tom Hiddleston in Legendary Pictures Kong: Skull Island. Simmons recently starred in a film called Whiplash, in which he gave the greatest performance of his career.

There’s no information on who Simmons will play in the movie, but there's no doubt that he’ll be awesome. The movie is set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, and here’s a brief synopsis:

KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.  Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.

Universal Pictures is going to release the movie on March 10th, 2017.

Steven Spielberg vs Alfred Hitchcock - Epic Rap Battles of History

An awesome new episode of Epic Rap Battles of History brilliantly pits Steven Spielberg against Alfred Hitchcock in an extended rap showdown. There are a few extra director cameos in the video that I wasn’t expecting. It is incredibly fun to watch, and the lyrics they spit at each other were entertainingly merciless disses. I enjoy this web-series, but this is definitely one of my favorite episodes. Here is the note that came along with the video:

Hi. My name is Nice Peter, and this is EpicLLOYD, and this is Epic Rap Battles of History, Season 4. As always, these videos could not be possible without your suggestions, your subscription, and the help of a lot of awesome people. Special thanks to all of you and everyone in our crew who helped make this happen.

I also included a behind-the-scenes video. Enjoy!

First Clip from EX MACHINA Live-Action Film - "The Turing Test"

first-clip-from-ex-machina-live-action-film-the-turning-test

Not long ago we brought you the trailer for Alex Garland's fantastic looking sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. Now today we bring you the first clip from the film. The clip is called "The Turing Test," and it features Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac discussing the ins and outs of the Turing Test, which is a method for ascertaining whether or not a machine is artificially intelligent. This is a test that he and Gleeson are about to perform on Alicia Vikander's robot, and if successful, it would be a huge milestone in "the history of Gods," as Gleeson puts it. Of course, if there's one thing we've learned from playing God in the movies, it's that it comes along with negative consequences.

This is the first film that Garland has directed, although over the years he's written scripts for films such as Sunshine and 28 Days Later. This next project seems like it has the making of a great sci-fi, and I'm excited about seeing it. Here's the synopsis:

Caleb Smith (Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company's brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test—charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated––and more deceptive.

The movie will be released in theaters on April 10th, 2015.

Mondo has released this spectacularly beautiful print paying tribute to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. This is the movie that started the epic Middle Earth film series, which is about to come to a end with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The art you see here was created by Aaron Horkey, and the poster premiered on Badass Digest. It features one of my favorite scenes in the movie, when Gandalf confronts the Balrog. To see yesterday's two pieces of Hobbit movie art from Mondo, click here.

Sony Pictures has released two new posters for their upcoming film Pixels, which features an army of characters from classic video games attacking several major city around the world. The two posters here represent the games Centipede and Space Invaders, and they are causing havoc in London and Paris.

The film was produced by Happy Madison production, and it brings together a number of retro video game characters including Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, Galaga, Frogger, Q*bert, and Space Invaders. The movie was based on an original short film of the same name made by Patrick Jean.

The main cast of the film consists of Peter Dinklage, Adam Sandler, Josh Gad, and Michelle Monaghan. Here's the synopsis:

In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults.  President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game championSam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.  Monaghan plays the team’s unique weapons specialist.

Sounds Used to Create The Millennium Falcon’s Hyperdrive

One of the most iconic sounds from the original Star Wars trilogy was the sound of the Millennium Falcon’s hyperdrive... failing. A fascinating 1980 interview has surfaced online thanks to Eyes on Cinema. It features sound designer Ben Burtt breaking down the various elements used to create the Falcon’s failure in The Empire Strikes Back. There were eight sounds combined to give us that effect, but the video only identifies five of them, and those include:

  • The inertia starter of an old 1928 biplane
  • An air jet recorded in a dentist’s office
  • The sound of an arclight motor starting and stopping
  • The sound of a motor located in the turret of an armored tank
  • Pipes underneath a broken sink in the bathroom at the recording studio

You can listen to the sounds below in the video. I’ve also included a clip of one of the scenes where the hyperdrive fails. I wonder if we will be hearing this sound from Han's bucket of bolts in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Sony Plans to Release DRAGON TATTOO Sequels in 2016 and 2017

It doesn’t look like Sony Pictures is done with the Dragon Tattoo series. David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was freakin’ amazing, and fans have been hoping to see the studio adapt the other two books in the trilogy as well. According to some more leaked emails, it looks like they are planning on it. The last bit of news we heard regarding the sequel came from Fincher, who said,

"I think because it [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script so it will result in something. The script that we now have a huge potential, I can reveal as much as it is extremely different from the book."

Not only are they going to make the next two installments of the franchise, but they are also prepared to buy the rights to the fourth book coming out. This news comes from a Brazilian site called overtice.com.br. Here’s a rough translation of an email that was sent to Amy Pascal:

“I asked Kassie about when we would have the manuscript of the 4th book, as it was promised for the end of the year. The manuscript is almost finished and the Swedish publisher is apparently quite happy. But there's a problem ... they will not have an English translation until March. (Worldwide release date is August).
“They offered us two options; 1) they give us a detailed version of 40 summary pages, I imagine that in English; 2) We ship fluent in Swedish player to read the book and come back with the recommendation.
“But she also informed me that the family of Steig and the Zodiac, new owner of the publisher Yellow Bird, are against the idea of TV series.”

This was sent by the person who is obviously negotiating the rights to the book. Here is the response from Pascal:

"I feel better now ... I only care when do Cleo and Dragon."

The site who read the emails goes on to say that Pascal has a list of films for release in the future. The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest are both on that list for release in 2016 and 2017.

I assume Fincher, Rooney Mara, and Daniel Crag will all return to the franchise, but there were no details on that in the emails. Apparently one of Craig’s representatives said that despite the first film being extraordinary, it was too depressing to be released around Christmas time and advised Pascal not release the sequels during the holidays like they did the first time around.

Fincher's first film in the series was a masterpiece, and I’m looking forward to seeing these sequels!

watch-hayao-miyazakis-1985-speech-to-studio-ghibli-employees

Hayao Miyazaki is a master animator who has given the world some timeless classic films through his Studio Ghibli production company. The company was the brain child of Miyazaki, and in the documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, a younger Miyazaki gives a “love it or leave it” speech to his the employees of his newly formed studio.

“Basically, our foremost objective here is making good films. No guarantees of lifetime employment here. But companies are just a conduit for money. Success isn’t our priority. What’s important is that you’re doing what you want, and that you’re gaining skills. If Ghibli ceases to appeal to you, then just quit. Because I’ll do the same.”

I love Miyazaki’s vision for his company. The second part of of the clip you’ll see is a some kind of wild party, and Miyazaki is singing about a guy who apparently makes awful, predictable anime. He insults the guy pretty good.

The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness is currently available on VOD if you want to watch it. Thanks to io9.
