Adam West Reveals Urge To Play Batman Alongside Batman in TDKR, Also Senility

$

All rumors saying that Adam West was slated for a cameo in The Dark Knight Rises have all but been buried as the big dog himself dispels them single-handedly in a recent interview with IGN. When asked about his role West responded...

[Laughing] I'd love to play Batman, and come in one night, flying in through the library window on the wings of a bat, or something. Right when Batman is totally overwhelmed with terrible things happening in Gotham City, and give him some advice. Either as a real character or fantasy character – whatever!

...what the hell? Lol Adam West, I don't think that's how Christopher Nolan's franchise works. You can't be having Batmans on batmans on batmans and think fans are going to be cool with a Mr. Miyagi mentor role. Hopefully the known joker (ironically) is being facetious about his wishes and we aren't witnessing the decline of "the bright knight"...

If we were though at least we would already know what it looks like.

SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D gets Distribution and Release Date!

As a big fan of the Silent Hill game and movie franchise, I'm excited to tell you that the latest Silent Hill film, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D has found a distributer, and will be released right before Halloween on October 26th, 2012. I loved the first film, it was a solidly terrifying representation of the video game franchise. I'm really looking forward to this movie, and am hoping it turns out just as good or better than the first film.

The movie was directed by Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), and stars Sean Bean (Game Of Thrones, Lord Of The Rings), Deborah Kara Unger (The Game, 88 minutes) and Radha Mitchell (Man On Fire, The Crazies), Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins) and Kit Harington (Game Of Thrones), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange).

Here's the synopsis:

Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrificnightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

Did you like the first movie, and are you excited for the sequel?

Here's the full press release:

LOS ANGELES, CA, April 18, 2012 – Open Road Films has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D, the highly anticipated sequel to 2006’s film SILENT HILL, released by TriStar Pictures. SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D will be released wide October 26, 2012 in time for Halloween. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films and producers Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody.

Based on the groundbreaking video game franchise, SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D is the sequel to the hit film SILENT HILL, which opened to number one at the U.S. box office and took in nearly $100 million at the worldwide box office. Featuring an unparalleled horror experience, Konami’s Silent Hill franchise has captivated fans for more than a decade and has spawned a hit comic book series, graphic novels, collectibleaction figures and numerous soundtracks from rock bands.

Directed by Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), original cast members Sean Bean (HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Lord Of The Rings), Deborah Kara Unger (The Game, 88 minutes, The Samaritan) and Radha Mitchell (Man On Fire, The Crazies, upcoming The Frozen Ground) return in SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D, starring along with rising stars Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins, upcoming The Great Gatsby, No One Lives) and Kit Harington (HBO’s Game Of Thrones) as well as Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, Disturbia, NBC’s Chuck) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, The Artist).

In SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrificnightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

Ortenberg stated, “Silent Hill has proven to be a powerhouse franchise. The fans have greeted each incarnation, including the original SILENT HILL film, with great enthusiasm and we are confident that this latest project will be a strong addition to Open Road’s 2012 slate.”

Producer Samuel Hadida added, “The film is a thrill ride that improves on the original in many ways. We take all audiences, new and old, deep into the world of psychological horror that is Silent Hill, and advance thestory for those familiar with the franchise. We are thrilled to have Tom and his terrific team at Open Road presenting our film to U.S. audiences.”

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Ortenberg, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Operations and Business Affairs, Elliott Kleinberg, and Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, Ben Cotner. International sales for SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D are being handled by Lionsgate. In addition to Samuel Hadida, the film was produced by Hadida’s Davis films as well as Don Carmody.

ENDER'S GAME Movie - 2 New Teasing Images of Ender and his Room

The image you see above is kind of our first look at Asa Butterfield as Ender in the Gavin Hood-directed adaptation of Ender's Game. Yeah, it's only the back of his neck, but it shows us a little device attached to it. Here's a note that came along with the image explaining what you're looking at,

Though Ender’s world is one worth saving, it sometimes comes with a price.  The novel was amazingly prescient about a great many things: remote controlled drone wars, the internet, the influence of blogging, hand held computing tablets like the I-Pad, and of course, electronic surveillance implants.  Implanted tracking and monitoring chips are no longer a science fiction concept.  They exist now.  And one day, they may be as advanced as the monitor implanted into Ender, which allows Colonel Graff to “see through his eyes” and know:  HE’S THE ONE.

The other image we have shows us what Ender's room looks like in the movie.

Here's the note that was attached to this image...

The more futuristic the world, the more invisible its technology. So why shouldn’t Ender’s room look just like any normal kid’s room?  And not every future is a dark dystopia.  The world that Ender lives in is a world worth saving.  That’s why he is willing to leave his family to go into an orbiting Battle School and risk not seeing his sister, Valentine, again until they are both adults.  That doesn’t mean this world doesn’t have rules.  Ender’s parents had to get permission from the state to have a third child, and if Ender ever had any doubt if he was unwanted, his mother and father’s shock at having their son recruited to be a future leader and transferred to space makes it clear to him that they’ve always loved him.  They know that when Ender leaves the safety of his home, they will not be able to protect him any longer.  We will keep your room for you just as you left it, Ender…

Ender's Game is such a cool story that has the potential to be one of the biggest film ever made. All I and the rest of us can hope for is, that they are doing it right, and making a film everyone; especially the fans of the novels, will love.

Want to See a Picture of Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock?

This is our first look at Anthony Hopkins as legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchock, and it's pretty damn creepy how much he looks like the guy! Hopkins plays the director in a new film that focuses on the making of Psycho. I can't wait to see Hopkins performance in this movie!

The movie was previously called Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, but now it's just called Hitchcock. It's based on Stephen Rebello's non-fiction book, which tells the true story of Hitchcock's attempts to finance Psycho. The story also focuses on the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife.

The movie also stars Scarlett Johansson, who will play Janet Leigh, who was famously stabbed to death in the shower in the film. James D'Arcy was cast in the role of Anthony Perkins, who played Norman Bates, Helen Mirren plays his wife, Jessica Biel is playing Vera Miles and Ralph Macchio was just cast as screenwriter Joe Stefano.

What do you think of Hopkins' Hitchcock look?

Laika Developing new 3D Animated Film called GOBLINS

The stop-motion animation company that brought us Coraline, and the great looking upcoming kids horror movie Paranorman, Laika Studios, will be producing a feature film adaptation of the book Goblins. The animation director of Wes Anderson's The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Marc Gustafson, is set to direct the stop-motion 3D movie.

Goblins was written by Philip Reeves, and it tells the story of "Skarper, a clever young goblin who lives among his ill-mannered bretheren in an ancient castle. Only he understands that an ancient evil is rising that will bring all manner of monsters and mythical creatures into an epic magical conflict."

Sounds like it will be a fun story to bring to life. I'm a big fan of what Laika has done so far. Both my kids and myself have enjoyed the dark childrens tales that they are bringing to life. Coraline was fantastic, and Paranorman looks like it's going to be a awesome. It looks like Laika is going to bring us yet another winner. Laika prexy & CEO Travis Knight had this to say in a statement,

Goblins is a fantasy with bite. In the hands of Laika's freakishly talented artists and guided by the ineffably gifted Mark Gustafson, it will make a strange, stirring, and altogether beautiful film.

Are you a fan of what Laika has been doing in the world of stop-motion animation? Are you looking forward to this new Goblins project?

Here's the official book description:

This is a wild world of magical creatures and heroic adventure from the extraordinary imagination of Philip Reeve. The squabbling goblins who live in the great towers of Clovenstone spend their time fighting and looting. Only clever young Skarper understands that dark magic created by a vanquished sorcerer is rising again. From the lands of men come fortune-seekers - and trolls, giants, cloud-midens, boglins, swamp monsters, tree-warriors and bloodthirsty goblins are swept into a fabulous magical conflict to thrill all fantasy fans.

Great News for Netflix's ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 4!

Just in case you thought the news of Arrested Development getting a fourth season and a movie was a dream, I just wanted to reassure you that it's really happening. Last year Netflix announced that they would air 10 new episodes of a fourth season that would lead up to a feature film.

The series-creator Mitch Hurwitz recently appeared at a Netflix-sponsored event in Las Vegas with several of the cast members, and he gave an update on what the current plan is for season four. He said that the production is set to begin this summer, and that the entire fourth season will premiere together on a single day sometime next year! So you'll be able to watch the whole fourth season in one sitting if you wanted to, and who wouldn't want to do that?! It's so cool that they've decided to released the series like that.

In the original plan for the series, Hurwitz wanted to make a revival anthology, where each episode would tell a somewhat self-contained story about a specific character. That's no longer the case, he now says it's going to be more like the original show that we all loved.

That is now kind of evolving into becoming more like the old show again. There's something exciting about trying to break the form again.

He then goes on to discuss some of the other aspects of the show saying,

There's going to be some mystery sprinkled throughout this [but] instead of watching one a week and try to get ahead of it, the hope is [fans] will watch them all together and then go back and look for clues and connections.

We'd also like to use the technology to provide additional material, where you might be able to access another part of the story. It's comedy. The twists really aren't as important as the characters.

The fourth season of Arrested Development might not be its last either. The creator revealed that he's love to do a fifth and sixth season with Netflix. Who freakin' sweet would that be!?

We would love this to be the first first of many visits. The show's audience has grown over the last six years because of [viewers streaming it]. It's been like putting jokes in a bottle and then having them come back years later to say, 'Ha ha.'

The fact that Arrested Development is going to live on is beyond awesome! I'll be happy with whatever we get, but the more we get the better! What are you excited for most about the return of Arrested Development? Do you like where Hurwitz is going with it?

Imagine yourself walking down the street; and right in the middle of that street is a button. Above that button is a big arrow that says,  "Push To Add Drama."  Would you push it? Why wouldn't you, right? Bring on the drama!

Some unsuspecting people in Belgium got to live this out as the drama button sets off a series of overly-dramatic events. This is quite the creative ad for TNT that is definitely worth checking out. There is some randomness in this that you don't want to miss.

Would you push the button?

Nicolas Winding Refn Producing Prequel to MANIAC COP

$

Nicolas Winding Refn has made movies about vikings, drug dealers, and stunt drivers, and now the Danish director is going to make one about a killer police officer. According to The Daily Grindhouse (via Badass Digest), Refn will be producing a prequel to the 1988 horror/action film Maniac Cop.

The original movie starred Robert Z'Dar as the title character who wandered through the streets of New York City killing innocent civilians. Bruce Campbell played a young officer who was framed for the maniac's crimes and tasked with bringing him down before it was too late. It was written by Larry Cohen and directed by William Lustig, and those two spoke to The Daily Grindhouse about Refn's involvement:

“It’s going to be more a prequel than anything else, I am really excited to come back to this world especially since Nick is going to be a part of it” said Cohen. “Nick (Winding Refn) has been talking to us about it for a while now and I had an idea that would work so we’re going to do it.” Cohen said that the film will still maintain the noir-ish comic book feel of the first three films but “with a bigger budget than the others have had.”

He says that the paperwork hasn't been signed yet, so there's a small chance this could still fall through, but it sounds like Refn is interested. Perhaps he'll be so interested that he might step behind the camera and direct this, since the project is still searching for a director. I've never seen the original movie, but this concept sounds totally insane...strangely enough, it kind of sounds exactly like something Refn would work on, considering his previous filmography. Have you seen the original Maniac Cop? Who do you think would be a good choice to direct a prequel?

  • James Cameron Starting An Asteriod Mining Company?

After exploring the Mariana Trench, does James Cameron have his eye on the skies?

No one is really sure what Planetary Resources is quite yet, but all will be revealed during a conference call on April 24th, 2012. What we DO know so far is that it's a company backed by Cameron, a couple of Google executives, and some others, and that it will "create a new industry and a new definition of 'natural resources.'" Movies.com alerted us to Cameron's newest venture, and pointed us to The Verge, which speculates that Planetary Resources is actually going to be an asteroid mining company.

If this turns out to be the company's true goal, the potential implications are pretty astounding. No longer will space travel to asteriods be reserved for reviewings of Armageddon, but it will actually be a reality that will supposedly add trillions of dollars to our global GDP. What good will this do, you ask? Peter Diamandis, one of the leaders of the operation, gave a TED talk in 2005, saying he could finance mining a 20 trillion dollar asteroid if he had the chance. More interestingly, he says "everything we hold of value on this planet — metal and minerals and real estate and energy" are available in "infinite quantities."

It's crazy to think about what kind of effects something like this could have on the global economy, but it doesn't surprise me at all that Cameron is at the forefront of this sort of innovation. The guy has been on the cutting edge of exploration for years, and now that he's conquered Earth's deepest point, it's no wonder that he wants to take things to the next level. What do you think about the possibility of mining asteroids...for real?

CHERNOBYL DIARIES Extended TV Spot - Meltdown

An extended one-minute TV spot has been released for the upcoming horror film Chernobyl Diaries, written and produced by Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli. The movie looks entertaining, and the thing that I like about it most is its setting. I always thought that this place would be a great setting for a horror movie. I hope the movie is more of a creepy ghost story than a slasher-film blood-fest. Maybe it'll end up being the best of both worlds.

    Here's the Synopsis:

The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an "extreme tour" guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone...

The film hits theaters on May 25th, 2012. Are there any places that you know of that you think would make a great setting for a horror movie?

BEWARE THE BATMAN Animated Series - Teaser Trailer

Cartoon Network has released this first fun teaser trailer for their new CG animated series Beware the Batman. The series will air in 2013, as part of the networks DC Nation block. I'm really hoping this series ends up being as cool as it sounds. It would be great to see a little bit more of this, but from what I can see there's potential. But I don't think it will live up to the classic Batman: The Animated Series.

    Here's the synopsis:

A cool, new take on the classic Dark Knight franchise, Beware the Batman incorporates Batman’s core characters with a rogues gallery of new villains not previously seen in animated form.

Along with backup from ex-secret agent Alfred and lethal swordstress Katana, the Dark Knight faces the twisted machinations of Gotham City’s criminal underworld led by the likes of Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, this action-packed detective thriller deftly redefines what we have come to know as a “Batman show.” Featuring cutting-edge CGI visuals to match the intricate twists and turns of the narrative, Batman steps out of the shadows and into the spotlight for an entirely new generation of fans.

With WBA’s Sam Register executive producing, and Batman Beyond’s Glen Murakami and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated’s Mitch Watson producing, Beware the Batman, based on characters from DC Comics, is coming soon to Cartoon Network!

Watch the teaser for the series and let us know if you like what you see!

As a big fan of horror films, I'd like to think that I'd especially be able to survive a situation where some kind of crazy monster or evil being was trying to kill me. Walken and De Niro In Talks To Join Douglas in LAST VEGAS

It was reported the other day that Michael Douglas would be joining the Jon Turtletaub (National Treasure) Las Vegas-set comedy Last Vegas. Now word on the strip is Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken are in talks to join the elderly cast.
Last Vegas was scripted by Dan Fogelman(Crazy Stupid Love, Tangled), and finds Douglas playing "a man who, before marrying a woman half his age, invites his three childhood best friends on a wild bachelor party weekend in Las Vegas, where old tensions crop up between him and one of the trio over the woman they both loved as teenagers." If cast, De Niro would play the friend who loved the same woman as Douglas. It's not clear what kind of character Walken will  be playing but it's safe to assume he'd be one of the trio.
Last Vegas has obviously drawn comparisons to The Hangover. But just because a movie takes place in Vegas, with a group of dudes, doesn't mean Last Vegas will be The Hangover of the Bengay generation.
If they land all these vets, I'd be pretty interested in watching this; especially if they get Walken in there. I loooove me some Zach Galifinakis, but Walken can out-weird him in a movie any day of the week. If Walken was Alan in The Hangover, they probably would've taken a lot crazier things than ecstacy.
By my count there's still one friend left who hasn't been cast. Who would you like to see running around Vegas with De Niro, Walken and Douglas?

For those of you looking to see a good movie about the world of male stripping, then this one's for you! Magic Mike was directed by Steven Soderbergh (Oceans 11) and stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Riley Keough, Cody Horn and Olivia Munn.

    Here's the Synopsis:

A dramatic comedy set in the world of male strippers, "Magic Mike" is directed by Academy Award(R)-winning director Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic") and stars Channing Tatum in a story inspired by his real life. The film follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.

The movie comes out on June 29th, 2012, the same day as G.I. Joe: Retaliation. So Sorry Soderbergh, I love watching your films, but being the geek that I am I'd much rather see some G.I. Joe action, than some male stripping action. What movie will you be seeing?

Park Chan-wook to Remake THE AX and Discusses STOKER

    $

    0

Oldboy director Park Chan-wook is currently in the process of directing his first American feature film called Stoker. The film was scripted by Prison Break's Wentworth Miller, and has a great cast of actors that includes Nicole Kidman, Dermot Mulroney, Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, Lucas Till, Jacki Weaver, Alden Ehrenreich and Phyllis Somerville.

Now it looks like the director has his next project lined up. In a recent interview the director revealed that the next film he takes on will be a remake of Costa-Gavras‘ 2005 film Le Couperet, also known as The Ax. This was actually the movie he was going to make before Stoker came along. The original movie followed “a chemist, who loses his job to outsourcing. Two years later and still jobless, he hits on a solution: to genuinely eliminate his competition.” Here's what Chan-wook had to say when he was asked what his next project would be,

I was planning to make another film, The Axe, before I started shooting Stoker. But while I was still seeking investors for that film, I received the screenplay for Stoker. So The Axe will be my next work, though I need to do some more work on the casting and attracting investors. I’m also thinking about making a historical film, but I’m not sure when I’ll be able to do that.

I've never seen the original film, but Chan-wook obviously knows that this is a great project for him. It seems like the kind of story where his style and talents will shine like the burning sun. In the same interview the filmmaker also talks about Stoker, and here's a few things that he had to say...

    On the films plot:

The story revolves around a father, mother and adolescent daughter who live in an isolated house in a suburb. But all is not well in the family and there is friction between the mother and daughter. One day, the father dies suddenly in a car accident, and the story starts when an estranged uncle shows up at the father’s funeral. While staying with the family, the uncle becomes involved in a love triangle with both the mother and daughter.

On why he chose to make the film:

I’d reviewed a lot of screenplays, especially a lot of the revenge films. But I limited my selections to Westerns, sci-fi films, psychological thrillers and spy movies. “Stoker” attracted my attention because it only has three main characters and the whole story unfolds in a house, which is a very confined space. I like telling big stories through small, artificially created worlds. Also, there was less pressure on me because the scale of the film isn’t that big. Besides, I thought it wouldn’t be bad to make my English-language debut with a scenario influenced by Alfred Hitchcock, because it was Hitchcock’s film “Vertigo” [1958] that made me decide to become a director.

On the certain expectations people have for Stoker based on his previous films:

Those are natural expectations for people to have, considering my previous films. I think that revenge, which is usually an element in my films, is essential for various kinds of films, whether they be thrillers, mysteries or films with violence. But I’m not a violent or angry person like the people in my films are and those are emotions I’m actually afraid to express. Maybe that’s why I often deal with those subjects in my films.

I've enjoyed watching all of Chan-wook's films, and I'm looking forward to seeing how his upcoming films Stoker and The Ax turn out! What's your favorite Chan-wook movie... that isn't Oldboy?

THE HOBBIT Plans To Run At 48 Frames Per Second, Will Theaters Be Ready?

The Hollywood Reporter is announcing Peter Jackson's The Hobbit plans to run at 48 frames per second, which is double the current industry standard for digital projectors. This means theaters wishing to show the near guaranteed blockbuster success will need to upgrade before the December 14th release date this year, with some speculation being before Summer to accommodate the trailer. Jackson is not alone in his drive to increase the frame rate of movies as James Cameron has also announced his plans to release Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 at 48 fps. Most experts are saying that this will not be a huge deal for upgrades to happen, but will cause a shift in the way we view films, making the on screen picture more fluid and less choppy.

Increased realism is always good in my opinion, but there is much debate as to how many frames are needed for true realism to be seen in film. Is more enough, or just an unnecessary expense to the film industry?

Jigsaw wants to play a game with you. This time though, the game involves a little R&R, swimming, great food, and a cruise with members of the Saw cast?! Yes it's happening, and for the price of around $700 on average you and your friends could be swimming, participating in mini golf tournaments, and enjoying a private screening of all the Saw movies with random no names from the original all the way to the 3D installment. Sounds crazy to most (awesome to a few I'm sure) but tickets are already selling out for the first voyage setting sail in August. For more details and to book your Saw cruise, go to this page and you'll find all you need.
